ANNEX not splitted!
In the net there is a rumor that ANNEX has split. I do not know who tells such rumors, or what for, but it is 100% sure that ANNEX has NOT split, and does not plan to do so for a long time.

There have been only three of us in Cologne, but you can read that on our homepage. On the contrary, we are planning to present a vinyl release to the market, and to announce this on this occassion, too!

If you want to get an impression how things are going on at ANNEX, you should have a look at our homepage. ANNEX is continuing, and will not split as long as there is an Amiga user left on the world!!! Even if that user has to be myself!! :-) See ya at the next big show. (ps)

individual Computers says thank-you
Silversurfer number 400 has just left the house, which proves: the Amiga market is alive! Independant magazines in Germany and Great Britain have tested the product to be bug-free and absolutely outstanding. The fact that there's another card on the market which is an exact copy of the Silversurfer from the outside is a compliment for me: there's nothing to improve!

Of course, the EOF mode of Miami was supported from the beginning, but since I consider this self-explanatory this feature was not advertised big-time. The next version of Miami will auto-detect the Silversurfer, and use the EOF mode without the user having to activate it manually.

There has been much positive feedback on the HEW '99. Only the length of the supplied cable (25cm) was reason for criticism. Since this was known before, starting November '99 the Silversurfer is shipped with an adapter cable which reaches the backside of really every tower. Starting mid December '99, there will also be a slot back allowing to attach the serial port alongside the A1200 mouse port - but there will be seperate news available then. (ps)

IWin... a neverending story
In a record time of under six weeks, Iwin has changed it's complete product line, has been sold to Focke, but former employees have bought back the company. Well done, other companies take months, if not years for this. To set this in the right light, Iwin-Corp. of course did not forget to register well-sounding domains like iwin-amiga.de or iwin-mcc.de. At least that's what's described on the web pages. As we already expected from IWin, big words raise hopes that they would soon deliver THE ultimate Amiga system, soon...

Once more, dear IWin Corporation: After the last press conference, which could safely be described as disaster, here's our request: Show us your miracle systems, let us participate in your unbelievable developments; as said so many times before, a well done website in combination with good PR does not convince us. We want to see the system, be able to check it technically, and only then we will stop calling it a fake. (ps)

SecOS status report
SecOS by Trogladite Software is a software package including diverse functionalities like login, user administration, logfile viewer etc. for networking Amigas.

Invalidation Detection detects upon login if the harddrive is validated. If this is not the case, the login is delayed until the harddrive has validated itself. This keeps users from loging into the account of the predecessor. Additionally, user-defined scripts can be executed upon login and logoff.

Users can now be organised in groups, and their access rights be set accordingly.

Among others, an editor for administrating group and user information is planned. An information programm showing how many users are logged in etc. Work is being done on a logfile viewer controlling three seperate logfiles (server, remote, security), offering search and filter functionality as well as starting macros automatically when specific entries appear in the logfiles. COSA Progress Update
Read the "Open Letter to the Amiga Community" by COSA, which summarizes all news about the COSA project:

From: "Steve Crietzman" president@savetheamiga.org.uk
Subject: Open Letter to the Amiga Community
Date: Wed, 17 Nov 1999 13:01:03 -0000

An Open Letter to the Amiga Community:

 COSA Progress Update

 November 17, 1999

 Dear Fellow Amigans:

COSA feels it is time that we followed up on our open letters to Tom
Schmidt with a letter to the people that really matter: you, the
members of the Amiga community.

We have so much news to report, and so much progress has been
made in recent weeks, that we felt it was time that we the community
on to date on our progress.

I want to start by thanking everyone who has written us with good
comments and suggestions over the past several weeks. I also
want to assure you all that we have read each and every e-mail
message sent to us very carefully, and considered the issues you
have raised in great detail.

It is clear to us that there is still a great deal of confusion amongst the
community as to what COSA is doing, and what we are trying to achieve.
The responsibility for this lies with me, for not properly communicating
our plans to the Amiga community. I would like to make amends for that
now, by taking a leaf out of Jim Collas's book, and providing you with
regular updates on our progress from this point forwards.

I would like to start by tackling the main issues of confusion: explaining
who COSA is, where we came from, and why we're here.

COSA, the Campaign to Open Source AmigaOS, had it's beginnings
soon after the Amiga executive updates of September 14th and
17th. We were formed to bring together the Amiga community, and
to discuss ways forward for the Amiga.

On October 4th, after several weeks of discussion and exchanging of
ideas, we came to the conclusion that what makes the Amiga special
and unique, is the operating system. The technology may be falling
behind, but our operating system still has something special and unique
to offer the world, and that's what has really kept us with the platform
through the last several years.

With this in mind, our discussions then focused on ways to preserve and
expand the Amiga operating system. We discussed many
possibilities. But we realised we also needed to think long-term. Not
just about the immediate future of the operating system, but it's long-
term survival and growth, in a highly competitive, ever-changing
computing industry.

We concluded that to survive in this market, Amiga OS needs to be
overhauled and upgraded. It needs to be brought up-to-date to take
advantage of new hardware and concepts in software engineering that
have emerged over the past six years.

Amiga OS also needs to be made available to the masses. As much
as we wish it wasn't true, the traditional Amiga market is shrinking. The
classic Amiga range is no longer competitive or attractive to the masses,
and therefore people will not be rushing to their local computer stores to
buy new Amigas.

For it's long-term survival and growth, Amiga OS also needs to be made
available to a wide variety of CPUs, or what Jim Collas referred to as
"operating environments."

Devoid of Gateway's official support for an aggressive expansion of the
Amiga OS in this way, we need to search for another large group of
people with the necessary commitment and ability to "make it happen."

We need to look no further than the high degree of talent that already
exists in the Amiga developer community. We have AROS. We have the
Aminet freeware developers. We have commercial developers. And
we have over 100 registered developers who have already pledged
to work on an open-source Amiga OS if it becomes available.

Collectively, the worldwide Amiga development community has the
manpower and experience necessary to bring the Amiga operating
system into the 21st century, and keep the Amiga vision alive.

The Amiga community needs to unite like never before. We can no
longer rely on anyone but ourselves, because there is no-one else
left.

No Commodore. No Escom. No Gateway.

Just the Amiga community of users, developers and dealers - no
parent company to guide us.

With no parents, it becomes time we became responsible for
ourselves - that we collectively pull our resources together, and
convince Gateway to let the community have a go where others
have failed.

COSA has been in contact with many key players in the Amiga
community to discuss the way forward. These include Amiga
International, Amino, Haage and Partner, AROS, Project IMP,
PowerOS, and even Tom Schmidt at Amiga Inc. We are
partners in this process.

Collectively, we are working together to create a roadmap for the
future development of the Amiga operating system.

It is important people realise that we are not creating a new
Amiga OS. We are not replacing it, either. Our proposal is for the
community to collectively drive future upgrades of the current Amiga
operating system. To take what we already have, and build upon
it.

By "community," we do not exclude anyone. Anyone with an Amiga
or who understands the Amiga is included. Haage and Partner,
the current developers of OS 3.5, are most certainly not excluded
from taking part in this process.

Our vision includes Haage and Partner at the forefront of Amiga
OS development, supported by a worldwide team of open-source
developers. We are hopeful of reaching an agreement/compromise
with H&P over a role for their company and developers in the future
development of an open-source AmigaOS.

Together, we hope to present a united plan to Amiga Inc to bring the
Amiga operating system closer to the community. It is way past time
that the community takes charge of it's own destiny, and we believe
open-sourcing the OS is the easiest and most common-sense, long-
term way to do this.

In the coming weeks, a Frequently Asked Questions section will
be created on COSA's website to address the most common
questions, concerns, ideas, and thoughts presented to us. We
will also be publishing a green paper that details a possible
migration from the current closed-source system to an inclusive
open-source system, whereby everyone - Haage and Partner,
AROS, PowerOS, Aminet developers, everyone - is able to
contribute and work on the Amiga OS project - building on
what we already have, and improving it.

The weeks and months ahead hold much promise. All we ask
from you, the community, is to give us time, and a little breathing
room.

We do not yet have all the answers, but as time passes, more and
more questions are being asked, more answers to these questions
found, and the mist that obscures the path ahead is clearing.

We realise the community has been let down many times in the past,
and we do not expect to earn your trust or faith overnight. All we ask
is that you give us a chance, and that you give us time. We hope,
however, that over the long-term, COSA will be able to earn your
trust and restore your faith in the Amiga platform and it's future.

Because at the end of the day, it is the Amiga community that we
serve. COSA is here to help bring the community together, into
discussion and dialogue, and help us collectively find a way out of
the fog that currently obscures the future of everyone's favourite OS.

>From recent events, it would seem that AROS, Project IMP,
PowerOS, Haage and Partner, Amiga International and COSA
are all in total agreement that discussion and co-operation, and
not competition, is the way forward for our community.

COSA has succeeded in bringing these groups to talk to each
other. Now COSA hopes to play a role in finding an open-source
solution that will satisfy these groups and bring a bright future to
the Amiga operating system, and we intend to do just that.

If we stand together as a community, we can collectively ensure
the success of our favourite operating system, AmigaOS. If we are
divided, we will all collectively fail.

We ask that the community gives the process that COSA has fostered
a chance to develop and grow, and allow these groups to co-operate with
each other and find a common settlement that will be of benefit to
Amigans everywhere.

Your own contributions to this process would be much appreciated.
Visit our website for details on how you can help this process succeed.

COSA is here to help Amigans everywhere by giving Amiga OS a bright
future.

Best regards,

Steve Crietzman
President, Campaign to Open Source AmigaOS
On behalf of our members and partners

Karsten Obarski Tribute Project
With Karsten Obarski, a man is standing behind track-based sound programs like Soundtracker, Fasttracker, Impulsetracker, Screamtracker etc., who wrote the first program of this kind, Soundtracker, and in the golden era of Amiga provided the soundtrack for many games. But hardly anybody knows his name.

The Karsten Obarski Tribute Project has three goals:
  • make the name and person Karsten Obarski known for what he did and which music he created
  • collect as many greetings for him as possible
  • make contact with him and deliver the greetings

To achieve this, FMP is looking for support. You can place one of three tribute banners on your homepage, and send information and comments about Karsten Obarski. A music contest is planned. (ps)

Payback Status Report #4
In part due to the soundtrack, in part to make the game as good as possible, the scheduled release date of Payback has been moved from December '99 to end of February 2000. Because of this, there will be more extras etc. in the game.

No matter what, development is making constant progress. The code for sound mixing is now available in assembler, and has no impact on the game's framerate. A special feature of the sound engine is that it can mix up to 100 sounds together to fit the 12 available channels by playing the loudest ones. This makes it possible to add sounds to virtually every object (fire, phones, walking people etc.).

The special scripting language has been expanded by commands allowing non-linear paths of action. Now, all the levels have to be created.

Four additional screenshots are available. (ps)

The Amiga Volunteer Project
The Amiga Volunteer Project (TAVP) is a non-profit organisation targeted at supporting software development for the Amiga, so high-quality programs are released faster and the software situation for the Amiga is improved.

To achieve this, the organisation is currently contacting Amiga developers to ask them if they need help, and in which areas.

TAVP itself is looking for people interested in working for the organisation for free. Wanted are programmers, musicians and more.

Additionally, TAVP is contacting several PC developers for porting their programs to Amiga, and possibly earn some money for the organisation by selling them. This money would be used for the organisation. The founders are not interested in making money themselves with the organisation.

Whoever is interested in participating in TAVP, can send an e-mail to official_tavp@hotmail.com. The e-mail should state name, country and computer equipment as well as a description of how one intends to help the project. (ps)

Eternity News - Tales of Tamar
It's cold outside... but the latest news offer the ultimate possibility to change your system into a secondary heater, so get it running!

The German Tales of Tamar Demo 1 is ready, and will soon be released on the AmigaFuture cover CD. Soon after the AmigaFuture release, the demo will be given to the other magazines, too, not without being fully localized. A little bit later the demo will be released to the general public, too.

The demo is not fully playable, it offers a first feeling of the world Tamar. IRC-chat, FTP-download and online games are already functional, however, and updates are planned, like a build-in Mastermind clone in ToT outfit...

The upcoming second Tales of Tamar demo will be able to play as stand-alone version in connection with the server, but the round-based game will be time-limited...
As can easily be seen from these words, development has not stopped despite the long absence of an update to the version number on the homepage http://www.tamar.net; it is making big progress. (ps)

Heretic II
Heretic II was presented on the show. One system had problems making Heretic run. Steffen Haeuser writes about it:
On Saturday it turned out the problem was a bug of my chunkyppc.library (yes, it's my fault :) I will fix the bug tonight). chunkyppc.library ran correctly when CGX was installed. When Picasso96 was installed, too. But not if both are running parallel (on two different gfx boards). And that was the problem with the second system, so there is no specific problem by Heretic 2. Wipeout 2097 troubles
There is a serious problem when installing the Warp3D archive which is located on the Wipeout2097 CD. Some libraries don't have a larger version number than the Warp3D libraries of the Warp3D V2 archive, so that the Warp3D installer doesn't copy the appropriate files. This results into a PPC exception requester opening after the setup requester is confirmed, and after the screen resp. window becomes black. This probably only happens, if a Warp3D V2 installation was already present and if the new archive from the CD was installed afterwards.

To solve this problem, the following should be done:

Twister1200 available again since HEW! High End, Low Cost...
Due to a misunderstanding, some cards have been sold on the show not including documentation. Be careful during installation, the new card is now installed head-down towards the keyboard of the A1200! Twister1200 Rev. 2 has been modified mechanically by DCE. As reasons cost saving and compatibility to other products is named. Support is still provided by Katodev, by e-mail, WWW, Fax and, if need be, phone after 6:00 PM.

We, Katodev, have been asked by users attending the show why another serial card is reintroduced to the market. After testing, also at the HEW, and experiences made by users, still no other competitor is able to ensure a flawless transmission with only mediocre transmission speeds (keyword: auto flow control). Reasons are limitations in hard- or software. High transmission speeds are therefore in jeopardise. Additionally, contrary to promises, a competitor's product creates a rather high CPU-load in comparison. Compatibility to Melody1200 is also contrary to promises not possible for any competing product without soldering. If Miami's load-decreasing EOF mode is supported by others is unknown. All statements without guarantee, misunderstandings might have occured. (ps)

APC & TCP - new products
Since the HEW, four new products for Amiga are available from APC & TCP. The CD-ROM "The Best of Airsoft Softwair" contains a collection of the FULL versions of the group that did CD32 Installer, NewInstaller, Rainboot and more.

The Scene Archives 9 is a sequel of the successful scene demo CD-ROM "The Best of Scene Archives".
A strategy game for Amiga is finally available again: SeaSide. Currently, only the German version is available. An English version will be released in some weeks. The game requires AGA, 4 MB RAM and a CD-ROM drive.

With the Info/Beginner CD-ROM, the club offers a CD which is especially targeted at Amiga newbies and club members. Readily installed tools everyone should have are included on the CD-ROM as well as all demo versions of APC&TCP, all issues of NoCover, the complete homepage (which is in itself 300 MByte in size), and various material by different club members. The CD-ROM is only available directly from APC&TCP, and is of course continuously expanded and updated. (ps)

Update of Aminet GUI
The Aminet GUI now offers a chat. Right now this is sadly unavailable for the current Amiga browsers! I hope the new versions of the NG browsers fix this shortcomming! Additionally, there is a guestbook, where everyone is free to leave news, ideas or criticism for me. For all who like discussing with other users, I added a forum. Here you can discuss about the Amiga, and you are free for asking for and giving advice about Amiga problems. Everyone who has a problem can ask, and everyone in the know can answer. So get to your keyboards... A small change has been applied to the mirror list. A small flag stands in front of each server, stating the host's country... Finally, the GUI can now be downloaded as LHA or LZX archive, to make Aminet access yet faster. The files can be found under Service/Downloads, and are about 880 kByte in size. (ps)

GlowIcons CD-ROM
Oliver Tacke writes:
Dear Amiga community, in Cologne we (Heinz Andreolla and myself) have given away CD-ROMs with numerous GlowIcons. Sadly we now have to say it is very bugged. I did a bad mistake, so most of the icons are too small - only a little bit, but enough to make a real clean-up with drawers containing lots of icons impossible.

Another problem is that during the stress during the last days before the show, several binaries were copied to the CD-ROM. I consider it unfair to blame Heinz as software pirate for this, like some people did. It was a mistake, really, and if I hadn't delivered the icons only a few days before the show started, Heinz would have had enough time to avoid this mistake.

Short: we beg your pardon. Consider the distributed CD-ROM as a demo version. I will now sit down at my system to correct everything as fast as possible. Moreover, I will do some improvements and expansions, like correctly adjusting the drawer colors to OS3.5. Considering the number of icons, I beg your pardon for not being able to do this in one week. I will hurry, anyways.

A first fixed archive with roughly 250 icons is finished and will be available shortly. The final version will probably be included in the Aminet CD-ROM Nr. 35, and, if wanted, on Aminet or the reader's CD of the amigaOS. (ps)

Preliminary Show Report
A first report by Petra Struck from the Cologne show, written on Friday evening.
I suffered from a raging headache on Friday evening and the better part of Saturday, please excuse the delays (again) :-( (mb)

Show Report - Day 1
by Petra Struck, translated by Martin Baute

When I reached the hall 11.2 yesterday morning at about 8:45 AM, last adjustments were made everywhere, and so I had the chance to take my time and have a first look at the show. Of course it was obvious that many of the big Amiga companies were not present this year, which could already be seen from the list of exhibitors of the HEW'99. For one, this is due to some companies already having withdrawn from the Amiga market, but also due to financial ressources being insufficient to fund an expensive exhibition booth. The hall was much less full than last year.

The exhibition was opened on time at 10:00 AM, and the booths of AMIGA, Schatztruhe, Haage & Partner, RBM Digitaltechnik, COOLbits, Epic-Marketing and APC & TCP were at once beleagured for the latest software. The many smaller booths of developers like KATO, individual computers, DCE and Eyetech saw many visitors. People visited the booths of the different Amiga clubs, too, where discussions were held the whole day.

Together with Martin Baute, I spend the whole day collecting many informations about news and updates. Since we didn't visit all booths today, I will concentrate on the atmosphere in today's small report. The description of the seperate booths I will collect in a exhibition special after the show, and I can already promise you some interesting news.

About atmosphere, I could write it mas mixed, but that wouldn't get it. Bothered, depressed would be better. It's simply the lack of a clear path, if and how things will go on. On the other side, it is astounding with how much enthusiasm the remaining developers, programmers and distributors carry on. Even more astounding to see a PPC G3 (400 MHz) developer board by Haage & Partner at the AMIGA booth, which could possibly mark the beginning of the next Amiga generation.

Here, you can see the first pictures.

13.11.1999:
I must have been very tired yesterday, because I didn't mention that I very much enjoyed the show, and that the user's moods is very enlightened despite the situatuin. At the Amiga-Club booth, which is of course our "basis camp", there was always a crowd of users. As every year, questions were asked about any possible subject; moreover, there was Aaron Digulla presenting AROS. Details will follow in the exhibition special.

One hint in advance: The new Developer CD version 2.1 includes the StormC 68k C/C++ compiler version 3.0. (ps)

If this should lead to more troubles instead of less troubles, this can be switched of with the NOGUIGFX tool type. The guigfx.library however contains several workarounds for errors in the datatypes, so it should run better. (ps)

Silversurfer 2.101 and howto
Jens Schönfeld writes:
Changes from 2.99 to 2.101: Silversurfer and Catweasel MK2 can be used on the same clock port. This however requires some modifications to the Silversurfer - better directly order a readily modified Silversurfer from your dealer.
Second change: the limited edition of the Silversurfer is recognized on the MK2, without modification! The Catweasel MK2 also has a 26pin expansion port, which I did not really make use of so far - the limited edition is the first product to run on it.

"howto"-area
On my website, at "support", I added a "howto" area. Here I am posting tips and manuals about my products. For starters, I posted how to install a hard drive with TD64, since I keep recieving e-mails about it. In the future, I will answer questions I recieve by e-mail in readable text and post it here, to create an archive that (hopefully) answers all problems, even when I am not answering e-mails for some days. Only 200 prepayments so far for FusionPPC
According to Paul Lesurf of Blittersoft, the current count of prepayments for FusionPPC is very low. While 600 promised to place a prepayment, only about 200 have actually done so so far. Read the complete statement at the title link.

While Amiga users have been wailing about empty promises by Amiga Inc. and other companies, it's a shame that an effort to bring a professional software product to the Amiga market is rewarded with just the same kind of empty promises. Support the companies that support us, and stay true to your commitments!(mb) (ps)

Silversurfer Update
Jens Schönfeld writes:
Sales of the Silversurfer started surprisingly well. Preorders have been catched up, so there will be no more delays for orders.
Since October 15th, there is a software update available from my website. Changes:
  • device now 68000 compatible
  • A600 adapter supported
  • crashes with Z4 board fixed
  • Installer script optimized
  • successful installation can now be checked by the power LED "morse code" even without a 15kHz monitor

Start of delivery for the A600 adapter is November 10th, 1999. Preorders are not accepted, to avoid confusion with people who placed pre-orders but bought one at the Cologne show.
Available since Thursday is the Silversurfer limited edition. It has a 26pin port for connecting with old Buddha controllers (those with a green board) or the Catweasel Z-II (all versions). The number is limited to 88. The limited edition is not available in shops, but only by fax order from individual Computers. Due to the small numbers, the price is ~40 Euro plus ~5 Euro P&P. (ps)

Apex: Payback status report 2
There is a new status report about Payback from Apex Designs.
  • Bugs have been removed. There have been problems with collision control. It now works faster and more reliable, but needs some more work.
  • The sound mixing code has been implemented. It is a very flexible system. A total of 12 sounds can be mixed with their exact 3D position, and be reproduced in stereo via the inverse square law. Moreover, a realistic doppler effect simulation is available. All this runs on the Amiga soundchip "Paula", and will be optimised by Assembler code.
  • Talks have been made with several bands about the soundtrack. Perhaps more in the next update.

2nd beta of AHI/PPC
Martin Blom has released a new beta of AHI for PPC. This version supports WarpUp, but right now is 35% slower than the PowerUp version. Therefore you shouldn't expect much speed from this version, but simply tell Martin Blom if it runs.
Due to a recently discovered bug in WarpUp, AHI is kept from using the cache like it is supposed to. AHI will either provide a workaround for this, or require a newer version of WarpUp. (ps)

XLight / LaserMax
XLight is a soft-/hardware project by Christian Entrup for controlling lighting systems for small and large events. On the homepare the following information is available in adition to the manual and screenshots:

Right now, ony a demo version of this software is available. It is a demo version WITHOUT HARDWARE OUTPUT on the parallel port. The subroutines for driving the hardware are missing in this version! The software is fully functional, however, including writing and saving lighting skripts. Sadly, the switch group and strobo group with their abilities cannot be marveled at, since there is no graphical representation on the user interface for them. Registering is not planned right now. A full version is not yet delivered. Since I am not sure about how to distribute the hardware (own manufacturing, construction set, giving out layouts, or...) and the hardware tests are not yet finished, this is delayed, since quality and safety are #1 issues. COOL bits Newsticker
Martin Strobl writes:
- first, despite the latest news from America (Gateway, Amiga Inc., Collas, etc.) we will of course continue to support the Amiga :-)). If our business can remain "Amiga only" (well, and a little bit Casablanca :-) ), is very uncertain currently, however :-(. No matter what might be our new business, it won't be PC :-)))).
All in all, I think the future for the Amiga (or whatever it will be called) lies in the PowerPC (603/604 - G3/G4). I don't believe anything usable will come from Amiga Inc. any more :-(. I'd like to be convinced otherwise.
I recommend all Amiga users join the PPC movement, or at least wait until the Amiga show (Home Electronics World) in November before deciding to change platforms.
- our homepage is undergoing a complete restructuring right now, so there are no updates for now. I home the new homepage to be online in about two weeks.
I'm on holiday this week, and won't be answering emails before it's over. Our shop remains open, of course :-) (ps)

Amiga development has been put on hold, sadly. We no longer sell to customers. The decission of Gateway / Amiga Inc. has been accepted with great regret - really disappointing. Eyelight development
Jochen Abitz writes:
Mage for AmigaPPC has been canceled. :(
Eyelight has released a demo of Gamma on their website: www.eyelight-it.com. The development has been put on hold, and will only be continued if 500 people preorder Gamma.
Here's the original text from the demo:
Gamedemo for CGX3Drave, (c)1999 Eyelight
This is a rather old "game-like" demo for CGX3Drave that showed off the basics of Gamma, the 3D games construction kit from Eyelight. It requires a CVPPC since the software engine we developed for CGX3D rave is not available to the public.
Being completly unoptimized and running on 68K only, it still shows off nicely what could have been possible with Gamma. Source code (in C but is actually a direct translation from Golem, Eyelight's scripting language used in Tornado3D) that creates the whole game is provided. As you can see it is rather simple, and the scripting environment made Gamma easy to use even for people with no 3D graphics programming experience.
Unfortunately Gamma has been canceled for the Amiga, due to the many shakes the market suffered. If there is enough interest and at least 500 Amigans pre-order Gamma for as low as 50.00 EURO/ US Dollars, we'll still produce it both in 68K and PPC versions.

KATO
We support the attempt of Mr. Grabbe, who suggested a new, useful Amiga hardware. This suggestion isn't new, but after the planless acting of AI, where even 5 years after CBMs bankrupt nothing happened (hardware), nonetheless actual. The big problem, which prevented us from integrating the Amiga into a standarized platform via slot card until now, is the problem with the drivers for plugin cards and on-board hardware. In the opposite to the name owners, who constantly states he doesnt need third party developers, we know that they cant make it on their own. Another problem is the Amiga Community, which can only be filled with enthusiasm for completly illusoric projects. Its not practical to try to compete with SGI, Sony or Apple, which are calculating millions of sold systems. Otherwise homecomputermainboards are classified to be useful enough to use modern RISC CPUs. The result are the well known "impotent" tower solutions. CPU top....envoirement flop. If there should be amiga developers, which dont want just want to tap money, they should use standard hardware. In the first point this would be a usual mainboard (Athlon/AlphaII) or a PPC-mainboard (IBM/MOT). Katodev has access to a bridge, which is used as adapter to use cards, build for 030 Macs, in PCI machines. The license fees should be really low. This would be a basis for a minimal Amiga mainboard without CPU, something a british company was unable to do. Amiga-floppy and sound would be 100 % compatible, the 68k would get emulated, for example via UAE, which is ,with a decent CPU, already fast enough. Everyone who wants cooperate with us, and Mr. Grabbe, should contact us. There are no detailed infos or product-announcements for end-user. (ps)

Show report Pianeta Amiga '99 by Thomas Steiding
Thomas Steiding by Epic-Marketing has attended the show, and summarised his impressions for us:

The third Pianeta Amiga took place in the small "exhibition hall" of the small city Empoli near Florenz. On both days, roughly 2500 Amiga users attended the show. According to officials, there were only 25 visitors less than last year. The nice thing with the Italian show is you can simply sit down on the grass outside of the building, enjoying the sun.
About the exhibitors: These were less than last year. At the Amiga Int. booth, aside from A1200 for special pricing there was Ami-Cola to be enjoyed and fashion trends to be followed (Boing Boxershorts).
Haage & Partner, at the NonSolo Soft booth, mainly presented AmigaOS 3.5. Naturally there was always a lot of people at this booth. The final version is scheduled for release early October.
At the booth of Power Computing, you could purchase accelerator and interface boards. Additionally, the new strategy game Red Mars was presented. A talk with Toni Ilinari revealed that the game Golem was cancelled.
At the joint booth by Epic Marketing and Darkage Software, several games were presented, like VirtualGP, Tales from Heaven and the PPC version of Eat The Whistle. Additinally, the effects software Extreme and the Darkage Developer CD were presented.
Main attraction at Virtual Works was the beta version of Wipeout 2097, which should be in the production by now and available soon. At Innovative (?), the latest Vapor products (Voyager 3.x, Microdot etc.) were available. Additionally, the latest Amiga print magazine Enigma Amiga Life was to be appreciated, appearing in its first issue at the show. The magazine is distributed by Italias largest distributor for computer magazines, however they did not yet know about Collas leaving.
A new innovative product is Amiga IT, an HTML magazine based on CD-ROM. The developers are considering German and English versions. The first issue has many great programs and Quake AddOns, like e.g. Quake Rallye.
In the non-commercial hall, user groups and developer teams met, informing the public about their actions. The game Bubble Heros was on show, an innovative and addictive guessing games bound to be released by Crystal Software. Some demo coders showed what great effects can be done by the aging AGA chips. The hall was under the special motto Meet and Greet.
On Saturday evening, there was a short press conference, with about 500 people attending. Petro Tyschtschenko, obviously exhausted by the ongoings of recent weeks, showed some videos from the Amiga past. He was unable to comment about the future, everything was unclear again, but that's familiar to us Amigians.
Impressive for a German like me was the relaxed atmosphere of the show, perfectly reflecting Italian lifestyle. All in all, a nice experience.
Thomas, many thanks for your report, giving us a good impression of the show. (ps)

AmigaOS 3.5 - A Point Of Criticism
At the title link, Andreas Frank explains (German, sorry) why he doesn't agree with the 2:1 ratio.

The following eMail was recieved concerning the topic, written by Andre Dörffler:
My name is Andre Dörffler, and I am working for Haage & Partner. You might have to rename the article AmigaOS 3.5 - A Point Of Criticism in:
Kickstart 3.1 - A Point Of Criticism
Since the criticism is about the window borders hardwired into the Kickstart 3.1. Since the Kickstart is not updated, but only the OS, it is not possible to change the window borders or system symbols. That would only be possible with a patch, which does not belong to an OS update because it is a HACK, and not system friendly.
Thank you for the clarification. (ps)

Editor's Thoughts and Introduction:

Our last issue carried the first statement from Amiga's new
President. There were probably some readers who thought our reaction
overly negative. That number may increase after reading his second
statement, below. However, most of our readers seem to feel as we do,
that with the latest moves at Amiga, there is no more future for an
Amiga we would recognize. At least, none with the company which
carries the name.
While Mr. Schmidt talks of licensing others to make Amiga computers,
he doesn't make any references to maintaining the standards for
hardware and operating system within Amiga. He speaks only of the
specifications for the MCC itself. It's vital for such standards to be
maintained if there's to be any kind of an Amiga computer at all. This
is our main concern with recent events, not the fact that Amiga won't
make any computers themselves. Yes, that bothers us also, since they'd
indicated they would actually build some at least. However, the real
key is to ensure clone compatibility with a meaningful standard. So
far, what we're seeing gives us little hope for such control. And
pulling away from making any computers, which would provide a standard
for clones, is a very strong negative statement. Also, remember Amiga
OS 5 has disappeared from the Amiga web site. Folks, these are pretty
strong indications, and they don't indicate good things. If Amiga
proves to actually license and maintain meaningful standards for next
generation computers, then we'll reverse our opinion of them gladly,
and be happy to admit our misjudgement. We doubt we'll have to "eat
crow" though, to use an old American saying.
We also find it disingenuous for Amiga to say that bringing the MCC
to market was beyond them. If so, buy stock in Dell and sell any you
have in Gateway. There certainly are risks, but the approach Amiga was
persuing would not be beyond Gateway, and only beyond Amiga if Gateway
chose to make it so. We suspect there were people within Gateway who
didn't see the worth, and did see the risks. This is common when a new
opportunity collides with a company that's lost the entrepreneurial
spirit and can't recapture it. Especially if there were pressure from
Microsoft, as has been alleged in some quarters.
We feel it's still possible for Gateway/Amiga to come up with
something that will please the Amiga community down the road. We also
feel the odds are greatly against it. If the Amiga is to survive as a
computer platform, it probably is in the hands of the community. This
is a heady and heavy challenge. We hope the people trying to make this
work will succeed, and we stand ready to help them get the word out to
you as they go forward.
There are many efforts being launched by the community. Besides the
"Phoenix Consortium" mentioned in last issue, there's AQUA (a software
architecture whose name stood for Amiga QNX Uniform Architecture, at
least originally, and maybe still does), Amino (an Amiga like company
name being discussed by former Amiga Inc. employee Fleecy Moss), and
TAC (Team AMIGA Central). Despite requests for information to
individuals identified as participating in these groups, none of them
has responded to "Amiga Update" at this time. Some of the e-mail just
bounced from the addresses we found on mostly empty web sites. Other
e-mail went unresponded to. The reason for silence mentioned in the
few public statements made is that pieces aren't in place yet to
provide information properly, or that nothing is yet ready and there
will be no premature announcements. Both are good reasons, but the
situation does leave us unclear on who'll be doing what and what the
relationships among groups is. As the picture clarifies, we'll bring
you information. Well known Amigans such as Fleecy Moss and Bill
McEwan have their names associated with much of the activity. Fleecy
has given a long interview on some of what's underway. It can be found
at http://www.williams.demon.co.uk/seal/fleecyint2.html as I write
this.
From where we sit, it's all very confused at the moment. Lots of
acronyms, lots of good intentions, too early for anything real or any
idea if there ever will be anything real. We do hope so. But we still
have the standards issue ...

TransMeta - No Betta' Than Gateway?

Recently the CEO of TransMeta was quoted as saying there was never
any connection between the secretive company and Amiga. The name
TransMeta appeared at World of Amiga only because it was in the
background of a picture of Linus Torvalds, the inventor of Linux, who
works for TransMeta. Unfortunately for that story, there were many
Amigans watching, some of whom captured images of the presentation,
who will be happy to state the name was on the list of partners, not
in the background at all.
Maybe we're better off without TransMeta, whatever they're doing. One
thing we don't need more of is "untruths".
We hope you enjoy this issue.

Hello Brad,

I am the manager for the San Francisco State Univ. Residential
Network (ResNet). We have ~1500 kids in our networked dorms. Each
semester I get asked by kids and their parents what computer should
they get. Well guess what, after two years of suggesting Gateway
computers...All of a sudden my opinion has changed...Gateway?!...No, I
think you would be much happier with a Dell :)
                                     Kind Regards,

                                    Harry
==
Harry,
Thanks very much for the note and permission to print it. To the
readers: Harry's note is in response to our last issue in which I
mentioned I expected a backlash against Gateway that could be
surprising to them because many Amigans are involved professionally
in the IT industry in one way or another. I'm sure Harry isn't alone
in his response and I must admit it brought a smile to my face.

Dear Brad,

The one thing that is very obvious about Mr. Schmidt's release is
that it is classic double-speak: it takes great pains to really say
nothing at all.

My counter to this release would be to tell Mr. Schmidt and Gateway
to go ahead with their next millenium multimedia "appliance" and if
they really need to call it "Amiga", then do so, but they could at
least show some respect for the Amiga community by releasing the
rights to the old OS and hardware so that someone (maybe this Phoenix
group) can try to continue on our own path even if it's not called
Amiga but something else.

I've been using Linux now for most of the year. I think Linux shows
us how to almost but not quite get it right. The Open Source concept
is the key element that could resurrect the Amiga if anything can.
What Linux lacks is anything beyond all the excited geeks who really
believe in it. There is a pretense of support for Linux in all of its
"documentation", but the documentation is largely a barely readable
diverse collection of highly technical information, a lot of which is
outdated and incorrect as far as newer releases of the kernel go.

I have Wordperfect 8 for Linux and it works pretty well. It appears
that Corel feels that because they allow it to be downloaded for free
that they don't need to fix some of the glaring glitches in the
display that are quite annoying (makes it look like a beta version). I
even paid for a licensed copy of Wordperfect 8, and noted after I
bought it that the CDROM manual that comes with it is for Wordperfect
7, and because of MANY differences in the operation of 7 and 8, it is
virtually useless -- fortunately the written manual is correct. I
wanted to email them to let them know about these various problems,
but I can't find any email address on their website to send it to --
I'm certainly not going to pay for a phone call just to tell them all
these problems. I keep wondering, where are the fixes?

So the gist I get is that the commercial players are using Linux for
two things: 1)to get back at Microsoft, and 2)to save money by not
having to finish and support their products. Doesn't sound like the
beginning of a success story to me.

Personally, I view Linux as a way to keep myself intellectually
occupied as I fumble my way around its innards. Meanwhile, I'm trying
to learn Perl.

Greg
==
Greg,
If Linux is to continue its growth, it's going to have to address all
problems of the nature you describe. It's too bad the Amiga will not
be in a position to help.
As for releasing the source of Amiga OS, that might indeed help. Just
because Amiga OS is old doesn't mean it's bad. One reason many
professionals in the IT world prefer UNIX to NT, and that includes me,
is because UNIX has been around long enough to become very stable and
mature. Amiga OS needs improvements in key areas, but it's also been
tempered by time.

        ...say it ain't so, Brad...

I'm having trouble believing that Amiga is dead again. I need to hear
it from Gateway. Yeah, I'd love to hear them admit that they did
something so massively stupid. They came along at a time when
MicroSoft was starting to show the strain; they found and bought a
technology that had the potential to finally loosen ol' Visa Bill's
grip on his monopoly; they set up a company to develop it, put their
best people in it, poured dump truck loads of money into it; then,
mere months before this shining hope was ready for release, they took
the very part of the technology, (controlling internet appliances),
that Microsoft already has wrapped up and chucked the whole rest of it
in the dumpster! Irving Gould and Medhi Ali weren't _that_ stupid!

P.S. Do you know off hand what the status of OS3.5 is?

Allan
==
Allan,
I think you echo questions a large number of Amigans are asking. As
for OS 3.5, as nearly as I can tell it's real and coming. I have my
copy on order.

Hello Brad

After constructing a long response to Tom Schmidt's statement,
I decided to erase it and just say I think he's "full of beans".
It's discouraging that he can't tell the difference between
hundreds versus thousands of e-mails as it is quite a large
gap. He says "Long live Amiga" but Gateway-Amiga has only
orphaned it once again in the same fashion of Commodore and Escom
have done with broken promises, mis-management, and greed.
THE real Amiga has been the devotion, work, and sacrifice of
designers, programmers, developers, and users. They support and
appreciate this "box and O/S" which makes their lives better.
It's a wonderful workhorse and work of art. I personally want
it spread again so that everyone has the opportunity to at least
know what it is. I don't care if it's the number one seller, but
I do care if its decendant is still around for us to use. So
  call me selfish.....
Thank you very much for your newsletter, and thanks for posting
the Phoenix information. They have my full support.

    - Lars
==
Lars,
Like you, we wish the Phoenix consortium the best. They have a very
difficult road ahead of them. On their side is that fact that no-one
else has ever done what the Amiga community has already done. This
computer has largely been kept alive by the community for years. Now
it looks like it much be 100% a community project.

I'm not so sure this is all that bad. Months ago, Gateway said they
weren't going to make the AmigaNG computer, just license the Amiga
technology/OS. Collas said the same a few weeks ago. So now we're back
to the same story.

What has happened is that Amiga Inc./Gateway has gone into stealth
mode after a lot of publicity, after saying earlier they didn't want
to tip their hand to possible competitors (e.g. Microsoft) who could
thwart their plans. Could not recent events serve to conceal Gateway's
true plans, plans more to our liking than some are willing to admit?

Maybe we'll find out in "two more weeks" (OK, 4 more months) :-)

Gary

Gary,
We honestly didn't pick and chose our letters for this issue to set a
theme, the tone you see here accurately reflects how our readers feel.
Thank you for providing a counterpoint view. We actually find it a
positive thing that there are still some with hope for the future, and
hope in Gateway/Amiga. However, for the reasons I state in my
editorial above, I really don't expect anything from them. Here's
hoping I'm wrong and you're right.

Congratulations Ted,

Your silence is dammning. you most likely will be remembered as the
man who finally laid Amiga to rest.

I suspect that we are so firecely protective of the Amiga because ALL
of the alternatives, despite their dazzling specs are still
"un-satisfying" to use.

I run a growing business here in Japan using Amigas...it is quite
difficult to to get hardare and software at times but I persist
because all the Macs and PCs just do not "cut it"

In closing, I wonder how my business would fare with you as the CEO.
Judging by the track record thus far, I shudder to think.

 Congratulations Ted.

It's an odd an unfamiliar feeling to say that even though I do not
know you and most probably will never meet you in your lofty
circles...I don't like you.

In the end, you are responsible. That is how I personally see it.

The Amiga is not a token in a Monopoly game to us.

Michael
==
Michael,
I doubt Ted Waite reads "Amiga Update", but I wish he did. As you
say, in the end it's his company. Maybe in Waite/Schmidt we'll have
another pair to place besides Gould/Ali. In truth, we're not quite at
that point yet. There still is a very slim possibility Gateway/Amiga
will do something the community will applaud. I'm not holding my
breath waiting, however.
We hope you'll forgive us for excerpting your letter. We had to do
that to many of the notes above also, and some letters we couldn't fit
in at all. For some odd reason, the old mailbox at "Amiga Update" is
more full than it's been in a long time ...

Open Letter to the Amiga Community

There has been a great deal of confusion and frustration expressed in
the news groups and via email over the past several weeks. I apologize
that we have not been more direct in our communications, and I want to
set the record straight.

First, per my previous messages, I continue to be impressed with the
passion and commitment of this community. You have "hung in there''
through a number of upheavals over the past years, and through several
false starts on next-generation Amiga platforms. You deserve better. I
have received many, many emails over the past two weeks, expressing
your opinions and frustrations. Let me try and summarize what I have
heard.

Many of you acknowledge the fact that we are focusing on software for
the coming generation of "Internet appliances.'' We are very excited
about the new Amiga Operating Environment, the work we are doing with
Linux (and other operating systems that support Java), and the huge
growth curve in Internet appliances that we are going to ride. You
have gracefully wished us well in this endeavor, for that, I thank
you. As you know, we announced in July that we were pursuing the
development of a "multimedia convergence computer'' that would serve
as the next-generation Amiga desktop computer. After the change in
management at Amiga, we reviewed all our product plans. To be honest,
the ability for us to deliver the MCC was unrealistic. Furthermore, I
have fundamentally decided that it would be better to partner with a
wide variety of hardware partners, rather than compete against them
with a product of our own.

From your perspective, one big problem exists. Sounds great, but what
does this new direction have to do with the original Amiga computer?
Quite honestly, nothing! We realize that this does not satisfy the
desire of the Amiga community for a next-generation Amiga. In
response, I remain committed to seek out partners who are interested
in developing a next-generation Amiga computer and operating system.
We have been following the discussions amongst the newly formed
"Phoenix Platform Consortium'' and talking to companies interested in
supplying the next-generation Amiga. We are open to the possibility of
licensing the MCC product specification and design that is now on the
shelf to companies that are interested in further developing the Amiga
desktop computer product line. We believe that this could be an
attractive business opportunity for another company.

In summary, we are continuing to focus our resources on setting
software standards for the coming generation of Internet appliances.
We are not planning to offer hardware devices, but will work with
hardware manufacturers who want to license our technology. As far as
offering next-generation Amiga systems, we are open to talking to
companies who want to offer such a product. For those of you who are
excited about the Amiga Operating Environment running on a wide
variety of future Internet appliances, we invite you to track our
progress and activities over the coming months. The Internet appliance
software model that we are putting together will open up an exciting
new era of software development that we think will be very interesting
to the type of innovative thinkers who were drawn to the Amiga
computer in years past.

Best Regards,

Thomas J. Schmidt

Motorola PowerPC Microprocessor Strategy (32K pdf)

Motorola Discloses New PowerPCTM Microprocessor Strategy Roadmap

Customers announce products based on the MPC7400 microprocessor

Austin, TX - September 13, 1999 - In a move to demonstrate their
strong long-term commitment to the PowerPC architecture as a strategic
solution addressing multiple markets, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) today
revealed its PowerPC Microprocessor Strategy Roadmap. Details included
information on the future direction for development of leading-edge
microprocessors, integrated devices, innovative design methodologies
and manufacturing processes, as well as an aggressive strategy for
rapid reuse of these technologies. The new products, all to be created
at Motorola design centers worldwide, expand the PowerPC portfolio
providing solutions for the networking, telecommunications, computing,
transportation and other high-end embedded markets. The announcement
was made during the keynote address at the company's Horizons '99
event, where several customers demonstrated new products based on the
recently announced MPC7400 PowerPC microprocessor "The
high-performance embedded space craves raw MIPS processing and
sophisticated integration for its products," said Daniel Artusi,
Motorola vice president and general manager of the Network and
Computing Systems Group. "The large and influential base of customers
using PowerPC-based designs must be able to create flagship products
and move them into the market rapidly. We've dedicated enormous
resources in research and design to ensure that our PowerPC-based
microprocessors continuously deliver best-in-class customer solutions
for all of our target markets."

As illustrated by Motorola's PowerPC Strategy Roadmap, the PowerPC
core design facilitates ease of reuse for integrated devices or
semi-custom applications. System level reuse of intellectual property
results in faster time-to-market. In 1998, Motorola captured 36% of
the 32-bit embedded processor market and the PowerPC architecture was
rated the #1 choice for new 32-bit embedded applications*. Coupled
with state-of-the-art design methodology, the PowerPC technology reuse
strategy will further strengthen Motorola's already dominant market
position.

"The PowerPC roadmap underscores a renewed vigor by Motorola to
advance the PowerPC family," said market watcher Will Strauss,
president of Forward Concepts (Tempe, AZ). "Applying the most advanced
0.15-micron copper HiPerMOS process to the product family indicates
Motorola's substantial investment in advancing the PowerPC
technology."

Today TeraGLOBAL Communications Corporation, CSP Inc. and DY 4
Systems Inc. announced products based on Motorola's MPC7400 PowerPC
microprocessor with AltiVec technology. These products join other
MPC7400-based solutions recently introduced by Mercury Computer
Systems, Inc. and SKY Computers, Inc. The MPC7400 processor with
AltiVec technology also powers all of Apple's newest and most powerful
desktop computers, the Power MacTM G4 series.

As the worlds's #1 producer of embedded processors, Motorola's
Semiconductor Products Sector offers multiple DigitalDNATM solutions
which enable customers to create new business computing,
transportation, and wireless communications markets. Motorola's
worldwide semiconductor sales were $7.3 billion (USD) in 1998.

Motorola is a global leader in providing integrated communications
solutions and embedded electronic solutions. Sales in 1998 were $29.4
billion. For additional information regarding Motorola PowerPC
microprocessors, visit http://motorola.com/PowerPC.

                      FUSION-PPC in the works!

Deadline for release: November 20th, 1999

17 Sept., 1999

Microcode Solutions is pleased to announce that the 60 day count down
for the release of the PPC module will begin on September 20th, 1999.

The PC version is being worked on at the same time as the Amiga
version, so the expected release date will be close to the Amiga
version.

Although we have 60 days to complete the product, it may be that it
is done much sooner... especially in light of the competition between
Microcode Solutions and Emulators, Inc. to release a PPC version for
the PC.

The retail price for the PowerPC upgrade module is $199.95. If you
pre-pay before the release of the product (regardless of the stated
release date), you will be charged only $149.95.

15 Sept., 1999

Paul Nolan is pleased to announce Photogenics 4.2, another free
update to existing users of Photogenics 4.x.

The main new features in 4.2 are Tool Tips for quick and easy
explanations of all of the items in the tool bar, a Media Cache for
improved Media loading times, and new paint on image processing modes
such as: Gamma, Sharpen, UnsharpMask, BizarrePixelize, Randomize, and
Channel Randomize. Blur, Convolve and RadialBlur have been rewritten
for more speed, features and options. In particular Blur is now
incredibly fast. Processing a 50x50 pixel blur on a 800x600 image now
takes less than 2 seconds on an 060, with a huge 500x500 pixel blur
taking just 3 seconds, and is fast enough to apply with the AirBrush!

Several minor changes include an enhanced Scale with improved quality
and feedback, an improved Text tool, a reduction in the memory need by
Photogenics by one megabyte (now uses just two megs with no images
loaded), various overall speed improvements, keyboard shortcuts for
zoom and pan, plus tweaks to the user interface.

 Price

$99.99 US Dollars.

Upgrade from Photogenics v1.x or v2: $75 US Dollars.

How to purchase Photogenics

You can securely order online with your credit card by going to

StarByte order hotline toll free on 1 800 243 1515, extension 400.
Outside of Northern America, please prefix this number with the
necessary dialing code (00 from the UK), and note that international
call charges will apply. If upgrading, you will need your registration

11 Sept., 1999

Pure Basic is brand new 'high level' programming langage based on the
previoulsy etablished B.A.S.I.C rules. It ensure a good compatibility
with similar basic compiler independement of the computer. The
learning is easy, as basic has been created for beginner and the
development time is really fast.

This software has been developed for the Amiga with the Amiga
enviromment in mind. We have put lot of effort in its realization to
produce fast, reliable and system friendly langage. The respect of the
OS is always the master word, and you couldn't write bad software with
the basic commandset provided. Of course, you could add any other
functions to bash the hardware and use all the Amiga power, if you
need it.

The syntax is easy, but the possibilities are huge because some
'advanced' functions has been added to this langage like pointers,
structure, procedure, dynamic linked lists, and more.. For the
experienced coder, there is no problem to access any of the legal OS
structures or amiga objects.

Finally, Pure Basic support the 680x0 processor and in early stage
the PowerPC. The PowerPC processor is not fully working yet because we
don't have any PPC accelerator at the Fantaisie Software team to
achieve the tests. The 68000 part has been very optimized to output
the best code as possible, but we're sure we could do even better !

Look yourself at the main features of Pure Basic:

 - 68000 and 68020+ support (PowerPC in progress)

 - Built-in Array, dynamic linked list, complex structure, pointer
 and variable definitions

 - Supported types: Byte (8 bit), Word (16 bits), Long (32) and user
 defined ones (structures)

 - Signed (finished) and unsigned (partially) support for standard
types

 - Built-in strings type

 - Constants, binary and hexadecimal numbers support

 - Very good expression reducer by grouping constants and numeric
numbers together

 - Standard arithmetic support with respect of signs priority and
parenthesis:
+, -, /, *, and, or, lsl, asl, lsr, asr

 - Compile about 30 000 lines/min on a 68030/50 (with PoolMem
installed)

 - Procedure support for structured programming with locals and global
variables (not fully finished)

 - All Standard BASIC keywords: If-Else-EndIf, Repeat-Until ...

 - External libraries support to manipulate easily objects like IFF
pictures, screens, windows, gadgets...

 - Precompiled structures and constants files for extra fast
compiling.

 - Cool debugger to stop the program execution and trace the bugs
easily.

 - Configurable CLI compiler

 - System friendly, easy to install and always under development

Oh my, when it comes to audio technobabble, I am pretty lost. I hope I didn't make too many mistakes... (mb) (ps)

All the Web - fastest search engine
With "All the Web", a super-fast search engine has gone online that really shows results unbelievably quick. Take, for example, the keyword "Amiga": In only 0.003 seconds, 256564 entries are found! That's close to magic for me :-). Not so good, however, is the sorting of the found websites; e.g. amiga.de was not listed among the first 100 entries... the super-fast locating of sites is of little use if the most important sites are listed among "others"... IMP Project News
IMP news again: Now we 're cooperating with the AROS team to ensure IMP not becoming a "LINUX Distribution with UAE" ,as some people said before, but a system with a real "AMIGA Feeling".
More important is the open source thought behind the project. In the meantime we contacted Fleecy Moss and the Phoenix Consortium. Whereas Fleecy supports our engagement, the answer from the Phoenix Consortium is still overdue. We 're not against Phoenix and we 're happy about every alternative to the "future plans" of Amiga that's capable of being spread. So our LINUX choice as developing envoirement is not final in anyway, its just a base to start the multi-platform developement.

Viruschecker.brain Update Version 2.21
Download: vhtvb221.lha
A new trojan virus has been discovered, too. It has been removed from Aminet, but this might have been spread, so take care...
The trojan will after it has been executed, replace the 'c:loadwb' with a new 'loadwb' with the size of 84.772 bytes, and create a file in your wbstartup drawer called "Workbench" (size 40.668 bytes, packed), and now the trojan is ready to 'play' with your Amiga. You can find this textstring in the file:

GuRuX mEdItAtIoNz: [JoShUa`S tRoJaN]`/AdDrEzZ: [yOuR ComPuTeR]
  TaZk: [SyStEm KiLlEr]
  MoRe iNfOrMaTiOn: censored

This trojan is made with AMOS, and it is a lame trojan.....

Here is some info about the archive:
Name : New msx-2 Turbo R emulator
Trojan name : Amos Joshua Trojan
Archive name : msxR.lha
Archive size : 124.196 bytes
Trojan name : msxR.exe
Trojan size : 128.800 bytes (144.320 bytes unpacked)
Short desc : New msx-2 Turbo R emulator for 030 040 060
This trojan has been sendt to all the antivirus programmers and they will make recog. for this trojan in the next update.
Thanx to Heiner Schneegold, Jan Erik Olausen and Alex van Niel for the fast test. And to Gringo, Urban for the first reports about this trojan. (ps)

ZDNet: ITG shopping list: Communications, consumer electronics
More rumors. An article speculates about a cooperation between Amiga and IBM. Another potentially major customer is Gateway Inc. The North Sioux City, S.D., company's Amiga division is developing a wide range of information appliances, including game players and Web access devices. A deal with Amiga would be a boost to ITG's plan to enable "pervasive computing." Gateway already has a cross-licensing agreement with IBM, but Gateway officials wouldn't say what the deal covers. Neither party would comment on a potential deal with Amiga. (ps)

I have a little tip for BVision users who want to watch MPEG videos a little bit faster, with Overlay. To achieve this, you have to enter in the BVision monitor driver's tooltypes VLAYER=DESTRUCTIVE, and save it. The cgxvideo.library must be installed, and after a reset, the BVision can use the Overlay function with Frogger and IsisPPC. (ps)

KOSH summary 26
After KOSH has resolved the problems with the DNS entry, and the mailing lists have been reactivated, we are again supplied with the summaries from the MLs. The KOSH website is available again. The URL is www.gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk/kosh/.

KOSH [Kommunity Orientated Software Hardware]

Weekly Summary

Week Commencing: 11th September 1999

Number: 026

Mailing List: kosh-general@icon2.iconimaging.net

In the mailing list this week, the following items were discussed.

I'm happy to receive comments on this summary (and corrections if I have made
mistakes). Email me (Bridge) at kosh-scribe@mythicz.u-net.com

Well it has been a while - the last summary was in June when kosh.net vanished.
We now have access to the same kosh-general mailing list but it is located at
kosh-general@icon2.iconimaging.net which in fact is the same as "kosh.net". On
that note it is important to a) send messages to the icon2 address and b) when
replying to messages check your "Send to:" field to make sure it says icon2 as
it has a habit of filling in "kosh.net" which doesn't work (this has been
demonstrated on a number of email packages).

kosh-general@iconimaging.net also works now but the above is still relevant for
people replying to older messages.

I am also posting summary 25 with this one (in a separate file in case you want
to avoid it!) as a reminder of what was going on back in June.

Anyway, on with the show!

a)

Subject: KOSH is back!

Summary of debate: It never really went away, it just went a bit quiet for a
while. Please note the following items for KOSH:

                   1) Email address is kosh-general@icon2.iconimaging.net (read
the introduction above for more information) BUT
kosh-general@iconimaging.net works without all the problems
described above so try this instead if you are creating new
mail (thanks to Jason Radford for fixing this).

                   2) The KOSH website is located on a mirror at
                   http://www.gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk/kosh/index.html

                   3) The KOSH booklist remains at
                   http://www.snowcrash.u-net.com/kosh/booklist.html and is
                   well worth a look through.

                   4) If you have a query such as "where did that bit of KOSH
info go?" then please email me (Bridge) at
kosh.scribe@mythicz.u-net.com and I'll either have it to
hand or know someone that does.

b)

Subject: New method for summaries

Summary of debate: An alternative interactive internet based way of producing
summaries is being looked at. The beginnings of this can be
seen at http://www.tele2.co.uk/~flump/kosh/ and mention on
the ML of things like Perl and Mason has occurred.

c)

Subject: Second user survey draft

Summary of debate: This is where we left off back in June discussing the User
Summary that Greg and co were working on. I'm leaving
summarising it off of this summary as it sort of took over
back in June and I'm going to keep this summary general:P
Suffice to say all is progressing well. Thank to Greg for
                   getting this one started again.

d)

Subject: 3D+ data manipulation

Summary of subject: A bit back I was discussing with Greg Webb and John
Chandler my ideas for 3D data manipulation. At the moment
we all have cosy spreadsheets that let you enter data on
the x and y planes (columns and rows). However in every day
usage I find this constricting as I need a visual (and not
just mathematical) way to place data on x,y and z planes.
While this can be done with conventional spreadsheets just
about if you have to y-axis on the resulting graphs it
hardly makes for perfection. The idea is that perhaps apps
in KOSH can be written to take 3D (or more - although
changes over time normally gets stuck on the x-axis in
conventional spreadsheets) data sets and be able to view
them on screen, rotating through them, using pan, scan and
zoom to be able to view the whole thing in any way you
want. Now this may only be possible in a "3d" or
holographic monitor - but maybe not as the eye can easily
                    be tricked.

It was suggested that there may be people out there that
actually need nD data manipulation tools - and this could
well be a killer app for KOSH.

e)

Subject: RF bugs KOSH?

Summary of debate: A way to make computers transmit RF information by executing
code to put data on a bus in a certain pattern has been
figured out. The potential for using this to bug people's
machines with nothing more complicated than a small software
agent and a cheap radio could well be a real problem for
KOSH if we decide to implement this type of technology (and
why not - after all KOSH is inclusive).

What sort of steps could we take to plug this potential
problem but still allow this technology to be used in KOSH?

It was suggested that a system of public and private keys
could be used to plug this hole as a transmitting system
would have to send an underlying carrier wave containing a
valid key for the recipient machine to "listen" and act on
                   the main message.

f)

Subject: EROS

Summary of debate: An interesting URL of http://www.eros-os.org was mentioned
which people may want to take a look at.

g)

Subject: IMPORTANT! All KOSH Working group progress managers and maintaners
         please read.

Summary of debate: A direct cross-list post from Greg that is important for the
                   above to read:

We seem to be having difficulties contacting our working group progress
manager and maintainer of our supporters list, so we haven't been able
to get up-to-date information on either for some time. If you're
involved with a working group or have registered your interest as a
supporter and are not shown here then please get in touch so we can
update the necessary details.

The relevant page to check whether you're registered is
http://www.gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk/kosh/kommunity/index.html and I'd
appreciate any resulting information coming in to me.

Thanks,
Greg

h)

Subject: Open KOSH

Summary of debate: Following an idea myself and others had on the nature of
KOSH towards other competing systems, Greg Webb (yep it's
that man again!) has compiled an article on this. The
general jist is that if KOSH is open about its weaknesses as
well as its strengths particularly when at computer shows
then we will generate a more honest atmosphere with users
whom KOSH is designed to serve (and not control unlike
                   certain other systems out there).

To demonstrate openness, an example given is that at a
computer show we could line up several computers running
(for example) AmigaOS, KOSH, Linux, Windows and MacOS and
then demonstrate each to its full potential. The conclusion
hopefully will be that KOSH is better than the rest for the
user to get the "thing" to do what they want. However if
KOSH fouls up and another system turns out better at
performing a particular function we admit this openly and go
away and fix the problem on KOSH.

See the KOSH URL for the full interesting text (and it does
make a good read - some very thought provoking things in
                   there).

i)

Subject: KOSH and Convergence International

Summary of debate: John Chandler has given a short KOSH update to James Sears
for inclusion in the next Convergence international
newsletter. James has offered assistance to KOSH to get
around the kosh.net DNS problem (thanks James).

j)

Subject: Re-announcing KOSH

Summary of debate: If anyone has -any- computer contacts that they can email to
say "KOSH is back at and " then please do so.
Only thing is that we may want to coordinate this as we
could end up bombarding some unsuspecting person. I've
emailed Amiga Format (Ben Vost) and am contacting
                   Petra Struck of http://www.amiga-news.de .
John has contacted Convergence International (see above).
Can anyone else offer up other contacts?

k)

Subject: Fleecy's Lentil

Summary of debate: Fleecy Moss and John Karcher are working on Lentil which (I
think from my limited understanding) is a logical and formal
language being developed due to reservations about IDL. They
are currently designing a Java tool that allows entities to
be designed and maintained. More details to follow in the
                   fullness of time.

l)

Subject: Dave Haynie and the Object Sea

Summary of debate: Someone emailed me and told me Dave is still working on the
above which is a jolly good thing. (For those doubters out
there - see KOSH is coming back to life after... well not
really dying in the first place).

m)

Subject: KOSH Owls

Summary of debate: Gary Peake of http://www.OwlNet.net offered the email
address kosh-list@owlnet.net (thanks Gary). I don't know if
this is up and running or if we are sticking with icon2.
Watch this space for more info next week hopefully.

n)

Subject: KOSH FAQs

Summary of debate: Greg Webb has written some but more are needed on anything
related (or vaguely related) to KOSH. Offers of assistance
                   to greg@gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk please.

o)

Subject: Multiprocessing KOSH

Summary of debate: A direct quote from Greg here which is interesting:

Amiga.org are reporting that there's a patent application from Amiga
Development on IBM's patents server covering multiprocessor bits:

At least two clusters of CPUs are present in a multiprocessor computer
system. Each CPU cluster has a given number of CPUs, each CPU having an
associated ID such as an ID number. An additional ID number, not
associated with a CPU in the same cluster, is associated with the
opposite CPU cluster that appears to the original cluster as a "phantom"
processor. A round-robin bus arbitration scheme allows ordered ownership
of a common bus within a first cluster until the ID reaches the
"phantom" processor, at which time bus ownership passes to a CPU in the
second cluster. This arrangement is preferably symmetric, so that when a
CPU from the first cluster requests ownership of the bus, it is granted
bus ownership by virtue of the first cluster's appearance to the second
cluster as a "phantom" CPU.

Does this sound useful to our hardware people?

See: http://amiga.org/articles/1999/0901-aipatents.shtml

p)

Subject: New KOSH mirror site

Summary of debate: A new mirror site for KOSH can be found at
http://kosh.convergence.org/ and you'll find some space
kindly donated by http://www.convergence.org/ This should be
quicker than the current location (again thanks to
Convergence International for their kind help with this).

q)

Subject: Amiga, KOSH and QNX

Summary of debate: With Amiga declaring that they are not going to make
hardware but concentrate on software perhaps should switch
the idea of one of the hosts for KOSH being AmigaOS to QNX.
If we stay with Amiga which from recent announcements seems
to be going to be hosted over other things then we end up
with the silly situation of base OS with 2 levels of hosting
                   on top.

Please note that this is only in reference to AmigaNG and not
"Classic" which a number of people have said we should port
to. Also note there is no change with the idea of hosting on
                   Linux and Windows.

r)

Subject: AmiJoe and KOSH

Summary of debate: With Met@Box producing the AmiJoe accelerator for the A4000
perhaps KOSH should consider porting a hosted version
specifically to take advantage of this and other PPC Amigas?

s)

Subject: Transmeta and KOSH

Summary of debate: Simple question - Is Transmeta of any use to KOSH?

t)

Subject: Team Amiga, Phoenix Platform Consortium and KOSH

Summary of debate: A cross-ML posting with two things of interest:
To join Team Amiga ML send an email to Gary Peak TA
coordinator at gpeake@texas.net with the subject of
"join TA request" and your personal details. All info
provided by you on joining will be for internal TA/TAC use
                   only.

Secondly here is a snippet from the rest of the email which
is very interesting for KOSH although please note that there
were mixed feelings about what Phoenix is trying to do:

The Phoenix Platform Consortium will assume responsibility for aid and
recommendation for reference platforms for the Amiga users who wish to
upgrade their present Amigas, as we establish an open migration path
to a new platform. That platform will in spirit and in feel be a new
Amiga experience while incorporating and surpassing the features found
on the desktop elsewhere today.

As information becomes available it will be posted on mailing lists,
newsgroups, and at the following website: http://owlnet.net/phoenix/
which will be up shortly. This announcement is freely repostable.

Subject: KOSH Subscribers

Summary of debate: There is a problem at the moment that some KOSHans are not
receiving emails via the icon2 email address we are using.
Obviously this creates a problem. Please can you therefore
email Greg Webb at greg@gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk and let him
know that you are getting the emails. We can then coordinate
a "rescue package" to contact other KOSHans who have been
dropped off of the list (by comparing the respondents to
Greg with the kosh-general@kosh.net ML subscribee list that
                   we have).

Subject: Why KOSH?

Summary of debate: I seem to be quoting a lot in full this week but why not -
its not as though there have been many summaries to read
since June. Here is a quote from Greg Webb (does this guy do
anything but KOSH? - all credit due to him!) which I
                   particularly like:

KOSH isn't just a software engineering project. The thing that really
sets us apart and makes me particularly fond of this project - for those
who hadn't noticed ;) - is the ideology behind it. We're not in this
just to produce something fantastic, we're in it to produce something
for the community. So, rather than a more traditional corporate
structure, we're set up so that KOSH is owned (when these considerations
actually mean anything) by a combination of those who've developed it
(as in us guys), those who own KOSH boxes and those who sell KOSH boxes.
No corporate investors running this for financial gain, just a community
of people who want to avoid the horrific problems that the Amiga
platform has suffered. So, we're set up to do everything we can to make
that impossible.

Subject: New hardware from IBM

Summary of debate: IBM recently announced availability of PPC motherboard
designs. This should help start up Mac clones again (with
MacOS X on UNIX/NeXT). Motorola have announced PPC G5 (64
and 32 bit products, new pipeline, new bus topology, 2GHz+)
and G6. This hardware could be used for KOSH systems.

Subject: TransAM/One

Summary of debate: Interest was expressed on the list for Met@Box to start up
the TransAM/One project again as this would present a very
interesting hardware opportunity for KOSH (noting it would
not be the only hardware solution - inclusive but not
                   exclusive...)

KOSH [Kommunity Orientated Software Hardware]

Weekly Summary

Week Commencing: 12th June 1999

Number: 025

Mailing List: kosh-general

In the mailing list this week, the following items were discussed. Please do
not email the scribe regarding any of these topics, it is not his job to answer
these questions but merely to report the topics of conversation. If you have
any queries about this summary, please email ben@kosh.net, stating the Summary
Number, and Mailing List Name, and he will try to answer your queries.

a)

Subject: Community involvement in Linux - an example for KOSH?

Summary of debate: Linux stresses community involvement and feedback. See
http://www.kde.org - from the website can be seen where KOSH
could go in terms of feed back mechanisms (documentation,
FAQ, wish list, bug reports, etc).

b)

Subject: KOSH Installation

Summary of debate: It was pointed out that KOSH being easy to install and
working first time will present a good first impression to a
user. It was also mentioned that subsequent usage and
alteration of the system should also maintain the good
                   impression.

c)

Subject: Second User Survey Draft

Summary of debate: The KOSH Survey WG released the second version of its User
Survey Questionnaire. Changes incorporated included an
additional section on disabilities and a note that personal
questions are completely optional and various other
                   amendments.

See the email from Greg Webb (greg@gpwebb.freeserve.co.uk)
date 14/06 and entitled "[KOSH] Second survey draft" for the
                   full text.

This again generated a large number of replies with many
constructive comments on the survey. Even though the survey
is developing very well a number of areas such as the
personal questions section were felt in need of further
development. Even so, a big thanks to all the hard work that
the Survey WG have put in to this project.

One key point for the future is that there will most likely
be a "Developers Survey" and therefore the one we are
creating at the moment does not need to cover everything.
However we do note that developers are users and vice versa.

I won't detail all the different comments on the second
draft as I'm sure the Survey WG will be taking their own
notes and I don't want to take up the entire summary with
it. If you're interested in the work of that group please
                   feel free to get involved!

c)

Subject: Volunteers to translate the survey to other languages.

Summary of debate: As well as Thomas Jensen offering to do a Danish translation
of the survey, Philippe 'Elwood' Ferucci has volunteered to
do a French version. Thanks to both of you.

If anyone else would be able to translate the Survey into
other languages when it is completed please would they make
                   themselves known to kosh-general@kosh.net

d)

Subject: Deadlocking in KOSH

Summary of debate: The following questions were posed:
"How will Deadlock (resource circularity, mutual exclusion,
hold&wait) be dealt with? In current OSes it is not a
serious problem because there are not many places it can
occur - but in a sea of objects all offering services, the
possibility for deadlock must increase 1000 (or a million?)
fold... [Without this] KOSH...won't work for more than a few
minutes before the entire system freezes up solid under
                   heavy load".

Apparently Unix ignores deadlock and hopes it will go away,
working on the grounds that it does not happen all that
often. Hopefully a better solution will be found in KOSH?

There are plenty of ways to prevent deadlocks from ever
ocurring by being careful about how you hand out resources
and checking with process what resources they could
                   conceivably need.

Alternatively getting rid of "hold & wait" just like in
current filing systems could be the way to solve this. The
OS can be set up so that, if a process wants some resources,
it has to give up others.

A deadlocking object in the resource manager was proposed.

e)

Subject: Atari computers and MiNT

Summary of debate: It was mentioned that those using Atari computers now use
MiNT which has multitasking and is POSIX compliant. See
http://www.altos.org.uk/mint/index.html which has a guide to
FreeMiNT. MiNT is a hybrid of Unix and TOS. Perhaps this has
some ideas that are relevant to KOSH.

f)

Subject: KOSH website location

Summary of debate: Just in case you missed it, the most up-to-date version of the
                   website is currently at http://www.rdg.ac.uk/~ssu97gw/kosh/

It should move to kosh.net/ soonish.

g)

Subject: Developing users

Summary of debate: In reference to the User Survey it was mentioned that
developers and users are often the same people. If we could
make it so that in KOSH every user could behave as a
developer at any time we would make the system much more
accessible. We would thus avoid creating an unnatural
separation and scare people into a division between the two.

We must be careful not to scare off people who just want to
                   be users.

h)

Subject: EPOC32

Summary of debate: The Psion 5 keyboard being nice to type on compared to other
palmtops was mentioned and this generated a comment that
EPOC32 has some nice things in it that KOSH may like to look
at (scribe's note: presumably EPOC32 is an OS and not a
                   keyboard though).

i)

Subject: KOSH FAQ

Summary of debate: "Our Greg" has asked he could have some questions to put
into the KOSH FAQ please. Oh and Frequently given answers
                   would be nice as well.

j)

Subject: Sheep and #HHHHHH

Summary of debate: There was lots of discussion on sheep and dodgy HTML code
involving #HHHHHH which gives lots of interesting results
depending on where you see it - oh and watching the Simpsons
when one should be working on one's studies was also
mentioned... and that's all I'm saying about this:P

Executive Update: Open Letter to the Amiga Community
In this Update, Thomas J. Schmidt again speaks to the Amiga users. He regrets that his last Executive Update dating September 14th has led to irritations and frustration. In this latest statement Mr. Schmidt makes it clear that AMIGA, after a change in management, has decided to make no hardware on their own, but is open to partners who want to develop hardware under license.

Open Letter to the Amiga Community

There has been a great deal of confusion and frustration expressed in the news groups and via email over the past several weeks. I apologize that we have not been more direct in our communications, and I want to set the record straight.

First, per my previous messages, I continue to be impressed with the passion and commitment of this community. You have "hung in there" through a number of upheavals over the past years, and through several false starts on next-generation Amiga platforms. You deserve better. I have received many, many emails over the past two weeks, expressing your opinions and frustrations. Let me try and summarize what I have heard.

Many of you acknowledge the fact that we are focusing on software for the coming generation of "Internet appliances." We are very excited about the new Amiga Operating Environment, the work we are doing with Linux (and other operating systems that support Java), and the huge growth curve in Internet appliances that we are going to ride. You have gracefully wished us well in this endeavor, for that, I thank you. As you know, we announced in July that we were pursuing the development of a "multimedia convergence computer" that would serve as the next-generation Amiga desktop computer. After the change in management at Amiga, we reviewed all our product plans. To be honest, the ability for us to deliver the MCC was unrealistic. Furthermore, I have fundamentally decided that it would be better to partner with a wide variety of hardware partners, rather than compete against them with a product of our own.

From your perspective, one big problem exists. Sounds great, but what does this new direction have to do with the original Amiga computer? Quite honestly, nothing! We realize that this does not satisfy the desire of the Amiga community for a next-generation Amiga. In response, I remain committed to seek out partners who are interested in developing a next-generation Amiga computer and operating system. We have been following the discussions amongst the newly formed "Phoenix Platform Consortium" and talking to companies interested in supplying the next-generation Amiga. We are open to the possibility of licensing the MCC product specification and design that is now on the shelf to companies that are interested in further developing the Amiga desktop computer product line. We believe that this could be an attractive business opportunity for another company.

In summary, we are continuing to focus our resources on setting software standards for the coming generation of Internet appliances. We are not planning to offer hardware devices, but will work with hardware manufacturers who want to license our technology. As far as offering next-generation Amiga systems, we are open to talking to companies who want to offer such a product. For those of you who are excited about the Amiga Operating Environment running on a wide variety of future Internet appliances, we invite you to track our progress and activities over the coming months. The Internet appliance software model that we are putting together will open up an exciting new era of software development that we think will be very interesting to the type of innovative thinkers who were drawn to the Amiga computer in years past.

Best Regards,

Thomas J. Schmidt

Amiga, Inc.

Heise: USA: Unlimited Crypto-Export Possible
Heise writes:
Following the announcement, US export restrictions on cyptographic software will be softened, the Clinton gouvernment has now released details. According to the information given, US developers of cryptographic software can now sell it virtually unrestricted to other countries. So far, the maximum key length was limited to enable gouvernmental authorities to crack encrypted messages. This restriction has been removed: Software with keys up to 64 bit does no longer need to be registered; software with stronger (longer) keys can also be exported, however it has to be presented to the gouvernment for checking. Full article (German) at the title link.

PC-Welt also reports: USA softens crypto export regulations
PC-Welt writes:
Starting immediately, cryptographic software with arbitrary key length is allowed to be exported from the USA. Only seven countries are exceptions, since they, in the eyes of the US gouvernment, support terrorism. (ps)
