New manga@amiga page!
Now there is a manga@amiga site available! Mangas are (in general) japanese comiccharacters that have special optical and charactical attributes. Normally you can recognize them with their "big" eyes and and their long legs. Also the art of drawing, shadowing, effects of flare are typical for this kind of comics. Known examples are Pokemon, Sailormoon and Dragonball.

If you follow the titlelink you will find a website, that only deals with mangas. You can download Rekocardsets, wallpapers, kissfiles, workbenchenhancers and many more. Attention: Because of the works on the Aminet from Friday till Monday most of the links won't work in this time.

Chamber Amend

Phase5: Case of Filing for Insolvenzy abandoned due to lack of assets
On April 19th, 2000, the Case of Filing for Insolvenzy Phase 5 Nr. 61 IN 18/00 has been abandoned by the Amtsgericht Bad Homburg due to lack of assets.

This means chamber Amend (which was responsible for preliminary insolvency handling) is no longer the contact for potential claims. Potential claims have to be taken to the former owners Wolf Dietrich and Gerald Karda, Phase5 digital products, In der Aue 27, D-61140 Oberursel, Germany.

Note of the editors: Sadly we did not get the opportunity to contact either Wolf Dietrich nor Gerald Karda directly; we wanted to ask them if they see any hope for users who did send in devices to Phase5 for repair. If somebody else is able to make contact, we would welcome an official statement since we think users want this to be clarified. (Translation: mb)

VHI Studio 5 available
The successor of VLRec NG offers a breathtaking range of new features, and already supports numerous digital cameras and digitizers. Pictures can be edited, optimized, reloaded or send to fxPAINT directly in / from VHI Studio; MPEG clips are saved in so far unknown speeds without temporary saves; all frames and pictures held in memory can be loaded from any program by virtue of a virtual drive, up to nine input lines (depending on employed hardware) can be supervised simultaneously.

Since VHI Studio is distributed on CD, there is enough space for all VHI drivers and CPU optimized versions of the VHI Studio modules. Owners of digital cameras now have new possibilities with VHI Studio: Record video clips, create time lens recordings, read the pictures from your camera or implement a WebCam. On the new VHI Stuido homepage, you can now join a guided tour, and find detailed answers to frequent questions!

"Computer Zeitung" issue 16/2000
The German magazine "Computer Zeitung" 16/200 (German magazine for skilled workers and managers in the IT business) of April 20 features an article by Marc A. Pletzer about the faction struggles between operating systems. In a historical outline, the C128 and Atari are mentioned, and regarding the C= computers it says: "Based on those experiences, Commodore's programmers developed the AmigaOS, a multitasking-enabled operating system with graphical user interface. Long before Windows NT and OS/2, this operating system had an internal 32 bit structure as it was developed for Motorola's 32 bit chips.". Apple is highlighted also. Later it says: "But Apple never served the mass market with its average demands of technology. Microsoft on the contrary very much."

Linux is mentioned in an extra box, which had "a bright future": "especially in the multimedia field, Linux is predicted first-class chances".

It's rather unusual to find articles in such publications that positively mention alternate operating systems, accordingly the Amiga is mostly excluded from such overviews - with the increasing acceptance of Linux and significance of multimedia this astonishingly seems to change... Hyperion announces their Amiga plans for 2000
In the next days, Hyperion will celebrate it's first birthday. When we started this endeavor, it was our declared goal to bring high-quality high-end entertainment software to the Amiga.

We believe we are on the best way to achieve this. In the last year, we created an impressive code base, which will allow us to significantly reduce our time-to-product in the future. This code base is now partially available for the Amiga community, too: MiniGL, chunkyppc.library, the new Warp3D version (in cooperation with Sam Jordan) etc.

We work with two of the most inpressive 3D engines, the Quake-II and the LithTech engine. In cooperation with Titan, we brought the Smacker Video Codec to the Amiga, a real industrial standard. In the next months, we are ready to significantly speed up the development cycle. This is why we want to answer some frequently asked questions.

AROS News
No news about the comercialisation of AROS, which is being discussed recently. Many ideas have been talked about and evaluated, but as always when money is part of the equation, things move slowly. Independantly the development of AROS is continuing as usual.

There are still two well-payed jobs open!

Right now we are using DOpus 4, which was gratuitiously provided by GP Software, to find and fix bugs in AROS. (Translation: mb)

SHARKS! CD32 edition almost finished!
For some time now I am working on a CD32 version of my game "SHARKS!". It's getting closer: "SHARKS! CD32-Edition" will be finished in reoughly two weeks!

The CD version will offer many options to customize the game to your AMIGA. Among others, a CD sountrack will be included as well as two other games by myself. This CD is not only suited for the CD32, but can also be started with a "normal" AMIGA (OS2.04, 2 MB RAM & CD-ROM). More details are available on my homepage, in the "Projekte" area. AMIGA plans to use Sun's Java technology for new products

Amiga Announces Plans to Embrace Sun's Java Technology as the software platform for forthcoming New Amiga products

Amiga is the home of a large number of the world's leading edge multimedia developers, artists and users.

Historically, the Amiga platform has targeted providing the most compelling multimedia content to desktop systems, the new Amiga platform will continue that tradition on desktops and address connected, multimedia digital appliances such as webphones, digital TVs, and WebTablets. Now the world's most creative multimedia engineers can leverage the Java platform to target a vast array of new products and solutions.

The underlying technology used in the Amiga system is a Sun Java branded version of PersonalJava developed by the Tao Group. Tao's software is a media-rich environment that was designed from the ground up to run on a wide range of low cost, processor and memory constrained consumer devices that offer a wide range of multimedia capabilities.

Within Amiga's new target markets, several key standards groups are adopting Java technology; HAVi, OSGi and DVB are three examples. Amiga is adopting the popular Java platform for developers creating new generation content and applications that could also be used on industry standard devices such as in home networking and digital television. The millions of Java technology developers will be able to deploy their innovative content on a wide range of new products that will excite consumers.

"We are excited to see a longtime favorite of the multimedia developer community turn to Java technology as their programming platform of choice. The deeply loyal Amiga developer community will be able to leverage the wealth of Java development tools and support to build new, highly innovative and fun applications. We are also pleased that Amiga will work with the Tao Group, a company dedicated to compatible implementations with media rich capabilities," said Curtis Sasaki, Director of Product Marketing, Consumer Technologies, Sun Microsystems, Inc.

"The New Amiga is a breath of fresh air for the industry, and has a talent pool of developers who continue to lead the way in the creation of dynamic software products," commented Bill McEwen, President and CEO, Amiga. "Sun and the Java platform provide us with great tools, a large number of potentially new developers, and a well supported platform, and experience in emerging markets. The Tao intent implementation is unique in being able to provide the key system requirements needed to run the Java platform in mobile and consumer products."

Francis Charig, Chairman of Tao Group says, "Combining the world's most advanced community of multimedia artists and engineers with the new industry standard software [Java] is the next natural step forward. It is wholly appropriate that Sun, Tao and Amiga work closely together and the result shall be a wealth of Java technology-based media content for the consumer and other markets."

Virtual Dimension status report
After months finally an update. First of all: Many thanks for the incredibly positive feedback regarding our fair video. As it was such a success, we will of course make videos again in future - just stop by ever now and then.

After so many months you will certainly ask what's up with Cybermove, our Sokoban clone with extras, several music tracks, etc. Have a look at the picture here! :-) In plain language: we had a little harddisk crash and lost all source codes of the last half year (Backup - how do you spell that?). The Cybermove project thus is frozen for the time being, but we already work on something new. What that is? That'll be revealed sometime soon... ;-) (Translation: mb)

Tom Schmidt - Managing Partner, B2B Solutions and Infrastructure

Also interesting is that the index site (title link) pictures the Boing ball texture in the leftmost picture of the line. AmIDE Beta version 0.2b released
The first public beta version of AmIDE has been released. AmIDE is a so-called "Integrated Development Environment", helping you in maintaining, editing and compiling your projects. The MUI graphical interface is used for this. In the current beta, AmIDE supports the SAS/C compiler, but in the final version, other compilers like Storm-C or vbcc will also be supported.

With AmIDE it is possible to work on several projects simultaneously, and compile them parallel. AmIDE is written completely object oriented, ensuring a high level of flexibility and expandability. In the future, more user requests will be implemented, and more compilers supported.

Wim AmIDE, the author hopes to finally bring a decent developer environment to the Amiga which can compete with other IDEs like KDevelop for KDE. A direct editor support for GoldED will also be implemented in the next version. Jens Langner will probably present AmIDE on the Amiga-Atari show in Neuss, Germany, on June 10th / 11th. akDatatypes for MorphOS
Special versions of the akDatatypes are planned for MorphOS. From a developer point of view, MorphOS is an excellent platform for future Amiga PPC applications. Since registrations have decreased by 80%, but PPC apps make up 90% of all registrations, focussing completely on MorphOS seems likely - as a last-ditch attempt to give an impulse to the remaining market.

Added afterwards: As a small addition to my recent MorphOS statement - which might have been misleading in that point - I'd like to add the following: although special akDatatype versions for MorphOS are planned, already the current PPC datatypes (and most likely all other of my PPC applications, although not yet tested entirely) will run without any modifications. The special MorphOS versions just are for gaining extra speed and dropping old 68k/WOS/PPC ballast overboard. (Translation: mb)

In the Amiga News Forum, Dominic Clifton clarified the conditions for using the HydraBBS source code:
If you want to continue development of HydraBBS, you should present the version to Dominic prior to release, if possible. You must not sell the product.
If you use parts of HydraBBS in your own program, or use the source code as a basis for own ideas for other BBS programs, Dominic recieves a full version of that program. (Translation: mb)

Pictures from the Amiga Meeting in Lodz
On 8 April in Lodz, Poland, a session was organised to cover current issues related to Amiga computers. The panel presentation was held for the Amiga OS3.5 system, with introduction of the MakeCD program and presentation of Linux as an alternative for the AmigaOS following.
Much interest was aroused in the meeting and discussion with authors of the "Amiga Vademecum" manual. Visitors had the opportunity to meet the editor of the new Amiga-dedicated magazine: "eXec". New products from ELBOX were on show: the FastATA ZORRO IV controller and the "Mroocheck" mouse interface with support for wheels. (Translation: mb)

tecChannel.de: Can Amiga succeed at a Comeback?
Alltogether there have been 24 such promises since Gateway purchased the Amiga technology and patents, but Gateway allowed the hardware to fall 4 generations behind current existing systems. Then they fired the manager in charge of the Amiga project (Jim Collas) Now the rights and technology lies with a new company named Amiga. Why should things now be any different? Why should anyone believe that this antiquated platform has a chance in today`s marketplace, regardless of how ingenious it is adapted? Who is behin this new company? Editor's Thoughts and Introduction:

 We're back from the Amiga 2K show in Saint Louis, and very pleased we
went. This was the first major show for Amiga under the new regime,
and we feel they did very well. It's a different Amiga world now, and
some are going to be unhappy about that fact. We've already seen many
postings both from those upset and with and those accepting of the new
Amiga directions. We'd hoped to have more information for you about
those plans than we do, but there has been little put out by Amiga
since the show. In part, that's due to problems with their web site
(see below). We expect more details to be released to the public as
soon as things settle down for Amiga, and we'll bring them to you. The
overall direction is clear, and we discuss it some in our show report,
below.
 Other than the show, there's not a great deal of news at the moment.
We do have some items we think you'll find interesting, so wish you
happy reading.

 I'm not sure whether I'd read the updates at all if you didn't bring
them to me. OTOH, if they're taking space that could go to other
useful information, then they're getting in the way, and I could find
them online. I read them so I obviously care.

 Instead of reprinting the whole, long thing, could you give us a
precis of each update and remind us where on the web it is?

 'Til next time,
 Allan
~~~~~~
 There were too many responses to my request for reader thoughts on
how we should handle Executive Updates for me to include them all, so
I selected one at random and it was Allans. Thanks to everyone who
took the time to write!
 Allan's comments are pretty much indicitive of the concensus. What
we'll probably do in the future is make a judgement based on the size
of the Executive Update. Smaller ones we'll most likely include in AU,
larger ones we'll probably summarize, then include the URL to the full
text.
 If we find this doesn't work out well for our readers, we'll take
another look at the issue.
Another one I have to toss to the readers for help, and this one is a
bit of a challenge. Anyone have any ideas?
By Brad Webb
 The Amiga 2K show in Saint Louis, March 31 through April 2, was a
"must attend". This was the first major show to be presented since the
newest Amiga Inc. was formed, and took over the management of the
Amiga computer. The real interest was in what Amiga Inc. would be
announcing, both to the developer community in private and the world
at large.
 The show itself was what most Amiga computer shows have been in
recent years - a sort of a combination family reunion and rummage
sale, with a bit of an amature feel in its organization. That doesn't
mean it's not fun, well done or worthwhile - only that there's a
certain "Amiga" quality that is hard to describe.
 There were new products available. To our mind, the most significant
was from Best Power, a well-known maker of uninteruptible power
supplies for the mainstream computer industry. Best Power now has
software to link Amigas to their products, thanks to the dedication of
their employee Jamie Krueger. Jamie is responsible for maintaining the
software on 14 different UNIX varieties for Best Power. He does this
on an Amiga 4000 tower, using AREXX to update the various UNIX machines
as he goes. This has to be one of the best stories to come out of this
show.
 We counted about 40 booths on a good-sized exhibition floor. We don't
have actual attendance numbers, but while there were many people
there, we didn't feel the crowds were actually large.
 Friday was reserved for the Amiga Developers' Association meeting,
and the Developer Conference. There had been an Exhibitor meeting
scheduled, but it was cancelled. The Developer's Association is an
informal grouping of Developers, with Kermit Woodall of Nova Design
leading the way. The Developer Conference, which was well attended,
was a closed forum for Amiga Incorporated to present their plans for
the future. The forum was only available to those who signed
Non-Disclosure Agreements.
 What can be said about the new Amigas is that while Amiga will
produce hardware references, they will not be a hardware company.
Others will build the boxes. The new Amiga software environment will be
hardware independent, and will feature several products from Amiga's
partner TAO. This will include both the Elate RTOS and TAO's superb
Java Engine. The TAO products will be wrapped in an Amiga environment
which will lie between them and the user. All this will sit on top of
Linux, though TAO products can operate with any underlying OS, or even
none at all - who knows what the future may bring in this area? The
hardware independence is a function of TAO's use of a Virtual
Processor in it's software.
 Here are some of our observations from the show, in the form of "word
pictures":
 More Amiga t-shirt designs than I've seen in a long time wandering
about the Henry VIII motel. We had our own to show off, of course.
 The Henry VIII itself - a rambling, doomed, interconnected set of
buildings displaying faded elegance, wonderful woodwork, a ridiculous
idea of what architecture was like in the time of Henry VIII, the most
confusing room numbering system I've ever seen, and a staff whose
Southern approach to life seemed a bit out of place in such a place,
but delightful nontheless. The hotel will soon be destroyed to make
way for airport expansion. We understand the home of show organizer
Bob Scharp may suffer the same fate. The staff provided good service
and showed surprisingly high morale during the show despite knowing
the fate of the work-place. Some call this progress.
 Crowds of Amigans filling the aisles in search of goodies and finding
many, though few new products.
 Gil and his 500 (!!) raffle tickets. He did not win the Developer
System despite purchasing what must be a record number. He won a lot
of other items, though.
 The developer system itself. At this stage just a plain, beige, small
tower PC with a paper Amiga logo pasted to the front. But oh, what it
promises. Current minimum specs: AMD K6-II 500 Mhz, GeForce Prophet 3D
video card, SoundBlaster PCI card, 64 megs of ram.
 Bill McEwen's marvelous and genuinely inspirational speech at the
Saturday night banquet. Most want to believe, but most are too many
times stung by false promises in the past to be entirely comfortable
yet. Still, there's something very different and reassuring about the
new Amiga crew. During his talk, McEwen showed some almost wildly
modernistic concept models for both desktop machines and games
consoles. These models were the work of Disney employees, provided
free of charge to Amiga. There has been mis-information about the
models and their use by Amiga. First, the Disney employees created the
models on their own and NOT as a Disney product. Second, the concepts
were clearly presented by McEwen as possibilities for hardware
reference standards, not as something Amiga was going to make itself.
Too bad the misunderstandings have arisen, as the concept models and
the way they were given to Amiga is the real story here.
 Scala used for Bill's presentation rather than Powerpoint! So much
better. So sad it was running on a PC laptop.
 Positive reaction from the banquet crowd to Amiga's list of partners,
including TAO of course, Sun, Motorola, ESI, Corel, JVC, ARM and Red
Hat. It should be noted the extent of the partnerships was not
revealed. Positive reaction also to the list of companies pledging
software, which included ACT, Epic, DCE, Met@Box, Scala, something
called Amiga Development, Haage & Partner, Digital Images, Hyperion,
Crystal Software, others. The official number of current Amiga
packages scheduled for porting is 117.
 The demonstration of what TAO by itself can do, after the banquet.
Running several copies of Quake at once, and Doom, and utilities -
with no slowdown. Combined with the plans announced, there's much to
look forward to.
 The t-shirt rush at the banquet. A unique item only for attendees -
or their spouses. Then there were the leather Amiga bomber jackets for
the Amiga Inc. crew. As Bill McEwen pointed out, "remember what these
were".
 Breakfast with Amigans I hadn't met before. Many marvelous
conversations with readers and old acquaintences.
 Did Joe Torre really sleep in the lobby Saturday night? Boing shoes
and all?
 A late Saturday night's visit to Robert Hamilton's room to see his
"Amiga Altar". A wonderful work of art by a first rate Amiga artist.
Illuminated manuscripts made of computer paper? Stained glass windows
of Jay Minor and Mitchie? Of course!
 Overheard quotes - "the difference between this show and a Microsoft
one is there are no hookers here."
 The announcement by G & G enterprises that their nascent US Amiga
Magazine would be called "The New Amigans", by vote of the first
subscribers.
 Well attended classes and demonstrations. Despite a very rough start
Saturday morning with equipment problems, these contributed much to
the show. The problems were worked out, and things went forward well.
 The new t-shirt design which showed a boing ball breaking out of a
box with black and white cow spots on it. Slogan: "Get out of the box.
You'll have a ball!".
it was announced at Amiga 2K that Amiga has established a strategic
classic Amiga operating system. It will be a platform for both new and
transitional products. The sale of BoXeR was completed on March 31,
just in time for the show.
 Mick Tinker will remain with BoXeR as Director of BoXeR Development.
 Representatives of Anit-Gravity were present in Saint Louis for the
announcement, which was made during the presentation by Amiga CEO Bill
McEwen after the show's banquet.
 As many people are aware we are having problems with the web site.
This is in no way a reflection of how we do business.
 This is a reflection of the inherent problems of business
relationships.
 When Amino purchased all of the domains from Gateway for Amiga there
was more than one party involved in hosting Amiga web sites.
 We have been working for months in getting everything transferred to
our servers and our ownership.
 Now many of the people who were at Gateway/Amiga are no longer there,
and we still are having problems with their releasing the domains to
us. This has become very clear with our new web site, and the fact
that thousands of mail messages are not arriving.
 We are working as quickly as possible on these issues, and hope to
have all of this resolved today. However there are some people
(companies) who are making this very difficult as they do not want to
let go of our accounts. I am purposely not mentioning their companies
here in this message, but will make it known if it becomes necessary.
 I thank everyone for their patience as we are more than frustrated at
the lack of professionalism in working with these companies, as we
take control of our web sites, and mail.
Best regards,
Bill McEwen
President/CEO
Amiga, Inc.
{Note: as this issues goes out, the problems of accessing the new site
- which is really the old, early Gateway/Amiga site - seem to be
coming to an end. Brad}
director of developer support Gary Peake to make participation in
Phoenix an integral part of the Amiga Developer Support Network.
Details of the developer support structure will be forthcoming through
official Phoenix channels and were shared at Amiga 2K.
 Amiga Inc (http://www.amiga.com) is a Washington corporation founded
in 1999 with plans to produce a modern Amiga OS as well as a hardware
reference platform which will take the Amiga into the modern age of
computing. Amiga Inc is presenting for the first time in almost ten
years an Amiga developer reference platform as well as holding the
first official developer conference in almost the same time span.
 The Phoenix Consortium (http://owlnet.net/phoenix/) was formed in
1999. Phoenix is an international Amiga-inspired organization
comprised of OS and software developers, hardware engineers, dealers,
marketing specialists, financiers, and media publishers for the
specific purpose of designing, implementing and fostering modern
solutions for digital desktop and convergence.
Fusion V3.2 is released.
 All Fusion users (and those anxiously awaiting the pending PPC
release) will be pleased to here that there is a new upgrade to the
68K version. This release confirms the continued commitment to the 68K
Macintosh emulation, but also provides a number of improvements and
enhancements.
 Fusion 68K V3.2 is the final upgrade before the release of the
PowerPC upgrade, which is nearing completion.
Changes to V3.2
 * Added ICP Transfer Priority. You can now specify the priority the
Mac runs at while the drives are accessed from the Amiga side though
ICP.
 * Fixed OpenDevice problem with ethernet.
 * Fixed ethernet query bug.
 * Added TD64 support. A partition that is partially or completely
above the 4G point will cause FUSION to fail to start if TD64 support
is not available.
 Partitions are still limited to 4G in size.
 * Added support for block sizes other than 512. Up to 64K valid.
 * Fixed ICP MacBinary file copy hang.
 * Auto-start doesn't auto-quit if you change the ICP or cpu settings.
 * Added tooltype and cli switch for specifying parameter ram file.
 * Changed ethernet from software loaded to a hardware card for Open
Transport support. Cleaned up ethernet for better Amiga ethenet card
support;
 Ariadne card now works.
 * Fixed cursor problem with old Lucas Arts games.
 * Fixed problem with QD based video drivers.
 * Fixed slight problem with autosense SCSI data.
 * New ADB drivers with (nearly) all Mac keys mapped.
 * Added tooltype support; switches from cli now have Workbench
tooltype equivalents.
 * Auto-start now also implies auto-quit
 * Changed 060 initial settings; now starts with only SuperScalar off.
 * Fixed miscellaneous problems with the interface related to the
auto-iconify feature (Tall thin windows on WB fixed).
 * Fixed Timer interrupt bug that prevented QueBase from playing.
 * Added support for a couple more ROMs.
 * Updates to video drivers.
 * Updates to RsrvCold, and RsrvWarm which is now called RsrvKick.
Nightlong almost finished
Nightlong is in the last stages of development. It took somewhat longer than planned, since we had to wait for the new StormC version. Until now, we only recieved 150 preorders for Nightlong PPC. Don't worry, we wouldn't let PPC down, but you will agree with us that 150 preorders aren't that much. More about it in the next "S-File". Nightlong can still be preordered until Monday, April 17th.
The clickBOOM portal already offers a Nightlong trailer, which shows what the main actor Joshua is capable of. There is a scaled down version of 8 MB and a big version with 22 MB. The trailer is available to all print magazines for their CDs. (Translation: mb)
LightForce Status
I want to give just a small status report on the Lightforce project at this place, since it has become pretty quiet around it. There were reasons: I have married, and have been on honeymoon starting March 17th. So I was busy with much more important issues the weeks before and afterwards... :-)
The rest of the team was busy, too. Sadly not busy on the project, but since it is a spare time project, it is understandable when it takes time. There are good news, too, however: I am back again, and continued work. The new menu system is almost finished, and should be available soon. The new version will again be available as downloadfile from the LightForce download page instead of being send out by e-mail. Simply because interest has grown so big I cannot send an individual version to everybody. This made me really happy, and I hope to get e-mail feedback on my project in the future, too!
Andreas, all the best wishes from the Amiga News Team. You are absolutely right: family comes first :-) (ps) (Translation: mb)
Amiga & Atari show
News from the Amiga & Atari show 2000
As reported before, The Amiga & Atari show 2000 (The World of Alternative - World of Amiga & Atari) is taking place on June 10th / 11th (Whitsun weekend) in the City Hall Neuss. Neuss is close to Düsseldorf, and therefore should be easy to reach even for international Amiga users. AMIGA and many exhibitors are announced, even Bill and Fleecy might show up; workshops, seminars, conferences etc. are in the planning stage; best provisions to make it a real Happening :-).
The list of exhibitors has been updated. Aside from AMIGA, eighteen exhibitors have announced themselves, with more to follow. amiga-news.de will also show up at the show, so we can provide you with "first hand" information. We will manage the booth together with the Amiga-Club im BTX & Internet. The occassion to meet each other personally :-). The experts from the Amiga-Club will provide answers to user's questions about everything Amiga. As at previous shows, many small problems with Amiga hard- and software will be solved.
For PD and Shareware authors as well as clubs, there are options for a reasonably priced presence at the show. E.g., for a table (120x60 cm) with two chairs, shareware authors pay only 170,- including tax, so a nice opportunity to present your program to a broad audience. More details can be found at the title link (German only), area "Aussteller-Anmeldung".
I already notified the info line that it's a bad idea to advertise an "show easy to reach even by international users", if the homepage is German only. :-/ (mb) (Translation: mb)
H&P Online Shop
Since early February, we have our shop online. In the meantime, we have done many improvements, to further increase comfort. Among others, there are now links to the product pages, and the cookie system recognizes customers (the shop is functional without cookies). Have a look at it, suggestions for improvement are wellcome.
St. Louis Show
Again this year, the Amiga Show in St. Louis was a big event. For the first time, H&P was present as exhibitor. COOL bits News
Monitors by Iiyama: New in our product line are the monitors by Iiyama. I had a look at them on the CEBIT, and the quality persuaded me :-). These monitors are really worth their price. On our reworked product site, a description of the monitors is available.
Development at Amiga/Amiga2000 show in St. Louis: I must admit that I very much wellcome the development :-). Finally, there are things moving at Amiga, and we get to see something new. After all, this is the first time after more than 5 years that Amiga development produces more than mere vapor. Among others, the cooperation with Corel and Red Hat brings me to casual optimism. I can only hope that Amiga quickly continues on this path.
AmiJoe G3: Talks between Haage & Partner and Metabox concerning the 68k emulation have not been finished sadly, which still delays production and delivery of the cards.
In the area News you will find many new stuff from the last weeks.
The link site has been completely reworked :-). If you want a link to your homepage added, please contact me. The pages with the special offers have been slightly modified. (Translation: mb)
Sounds just like our MCC:
"Webpad, desktop- and kitchen device | automatically connect to AOL network | AOL-CEO: Help for young people. AOL and Gateway will bring a line of relatively cheap surf stations starting by the end of the year, running under Linux."
Heise: Gateway and AOL to bring surf terminals
"On the Spring Internet World show in Los Angeles, AOL and Gateway for the first time present their line of surf devices (Internet Appliances): A web-pad, a so-called countertop device with cordless keyboard, and a desktop system. The countertop device, basically a LCD screen with attachment, are planned to reach the market for christmas 2000. The two other devices will follow next year. The desktop system looks like a grey version of the iMac, and according to Gateway will cost less than 500 USD." (Translation: mb)
Statement by Bill McEwen about the Amiga website
In his statement, Bill McEwen speaks about the problems with the new website. He will do what he can so the website will be fully functional soon:
"As many people are aware we are having problems with the web site. This is in no way a reflection of how we do business.
This is a reflection of the inherent problems of business relationships.
When Amino purchased all of the domains from Gateway for Amiga there was more than one party involved in hosting Amiga web sites.
We have been working for months in getting everything transferred to our servers and our ownership.
Now many of the people who were at Gateway/Amiga are no longer there, and we still are having problems with their releasing the domains to us. This has become very clear with our new web site, and the fact that thousands of mail messages are not arriving.
We are working as quickly as possible on these issues, and hope to have all of this resolved today. However there are some people (companies) who are making this very difficult as they do not want to let go of our accounts. I am purposely not mentioning their companies here in this message, but will make it known if it becomes necessary.
I thank everyone for their patience as we more than frustrated at the lack of professionalism in working with these companies, as we take control of our web sites, and mail.
Best regards,
Bill McEwen
CamX project - what's it all about?
Martin Endres tells about the CamX project:
CamX can be described as "object oriented, modular data manager with alarm / timing system".
  • CamX is NOT a MIDI/Audio sequencer, even if it can be used as such.
  • CamX is NOT a video editing system, even if it can be used as such.
  • CamX is NOT a automatic radiator control, even if it can be used as such.
  • CamX is completely modular and can be adapted to your individual needs.
  • Data/Structure Objects
    There are "Data Objects" (e.g. samples, videos or MIDI events) and "Structure Objects" (e.g. songs or tracks). These "Objects" own individual input and output ports and can be controlled by their individual addresses. "Data Objects" can be included in the system in any way you want.
  • Ports with Pipeline
    These object ports have a pipeline, where any data processing modules (e.g. filter) can be added.
  • Object Database
    CamX has a database language, which can be used e.g. for selecting all MIDI events.
  • External System Control
    All system functions can be controlled externally, and are available for other programms. So CamX can also be controlled by network / internet. The processing modules can be distributed in the network.
  • Object Editors
    Editors are added as modules. Depending on the object type, the correct editor is opened. An unlimited number of editors can be open simultaneously.
  • GUI
    The GUI / interface is modular, and can be changed and adapted anytime.
  • I/O System
    As I/O system, the ARTAS system by ACT will be employed.
Some example uses:
MIDI/Audio Sequencer - Video Editing System - Laser/Slideshow - Controlling household and office devices - controlling of HiFi/multimedia devices - DVD/MP3 player
Everything (soft- and hardware) sending or recieving data in any form will be controllable by CamX, if the driver module is available. (Translation: mb)
We want to evaluate the users opinions of OS 3.5. So, on our homepage in the area "Aktion" we created a page where we ask the following specific questions:
The AmigaOS 3.5 is available now for some time. We want to know from you what you think about it! What do you like in AmigaOS 3.5, and what do you dislike? What is missing, and what is getting you upset in it? Or did you expand your AmigaOS 3.5 with additional tools? Which tools do you use no longer?
Write to us! We will release the results on our homepage! Of course, tips and tricks for AmigaOS 3.5 are wellcome, too. (Translation: mb)
grafik-umsonst.de now with Amiga area
AMIGA. This device is cult. These pages are meant as a bow before the spirit of a creative community. A sworn community, which after years of discontinued development holds high the ideals of a computer that enabled multimedia even before that term was coined.
Due to this, an Amiga area has been created (still under construction). Everyone owning an Amiga, or has created pictures with one, can help. Many thanks to the Amiga-Magazin for the friendy authorization.
Many other graphics of www.grafik-umsonst.de have also been created on Amiga: e.g. the background series "am", "amnew" and "co" in the "Hintergrund" area, "big" and "at" in "Hintergr2". (Translation: mb)
Since the new IP address has not yet been added to all Domain Name Servers, the "new" www.amiga.com page can be visited at http://209.15.87.244. "New" in quotes because the layout should be well-known from Schindler times.
