News from Camouflage MIDI/Audio sequencer
Martin Endres writes:
The price has been cut back (including cross-update to CamX). CamX (the successor) will probably be released in autumn/winter in German as well as English.
The first version will be for Amiga68K only, with a Linux86 and perhaps an AmigaNG version coming later (if AmigaNG is already available by then). (ps)

geeknews: Q & A with Opera CEO Jon von Tetzchner
Q: Will we see a project from Opera to support the upcoming AmigaOS?
A: We will have to wait and see. At this time we do not know what will happen with the new Amiga and what it really means. I have had my share of Amigas in the past and I still have a couple at home so I would love to see the Amiga prosper. At this time, however, we do not know what is going to happen. There have been a lot of announcements without results from Amiga Inc. and we are still waiting to see real results. If they deliver we will consider a port. more ... (ps)

akMPEG Animation Player version 2
Andreas R. Kleinert writes:
The akMPEG2 animation player is now available from my homepage. The archive contains an 68k version (040/FPU or better) and a PPC version, both as Overlay and 24-Bit In-Window version. Changes since version 1.00: Version 1.00 had only a 68k version and used the mathffp.library instead of the CPU, some bugs removed.
P.S.: I know the program does not support sound (MPEG Video with audio part). This will not change ;).
Download: akMPEG2.lha. In the next few days, the program will be available from Aminet. (ps)

New programs: FMdriver and AVL
Stefan Robl writes:
FMDriver:
Since the company electronic-design has stopped soft- and hardware development for the FrameMachine, and the software had some troubles on modern systems, ED gave me permission to continue development of this card's software.
The result is FMdriver, a completely rewritten driver tuned for high hardware compatibility and speed (including PPC!). The package contains a config tool and FMTV, which allows TV to be watched high-speed with CGX/P96 on the WB. More about it on my homepage. Download: FMdriver.lha. more ... (ps)

Iwin plans to present the new computers in Germany
In a posting to csam Iwin states that they will release further technical details on their website within the next two or three days, and that Martin Steinbach has agreed with Thomas Raukamp of the German "amigaOS" print magazine to make a presentation in Germany shortly before the official release date. Thomas confirmed the agreement.
Still, we stay very wary, we can still imagine this could be a well-done hoax, and will only be convinced otherwise when we have seen the promised machines in action. (ps)

Jason Kroll: BeOS Release 4.5
Thomas Wölflick writes:
I have found an interesting article in "Be Magazine" at www.bemagazine.com/articles/beos-4.5.html (title link). There, Jason Kroll writes about the BeOS Release 4.5 in whole, its chances and future.
Especially interesting was the honorable mention of Amiga in the paragraph before the last one. Here, he writes:
..."One impediment to development, and to users switching to BeOS, is that we don't know for sure how secure the future will be. For one thing, Amiga, supported by Gateway, is probably in cahoots with Transmeta, and based on the free Linux kernel, is about to make a monster reappearance, supposedly based on technologies we have never seen in home computers. How will BeOS fare against competition from the rebirth of the original multimedia machine?"...
Preliminary congratulations, fear of an undead, or how would you call it? (ps)
