AmiGBG 2002. That's the name of the first Swedish Amiga fair since
1998. AmiGBG 2002 will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The fair will contain both swedish and foreign exhibitors, both
companys and user groups.
At AmiGBG 2002 you will get a glimpse of the future Amiga system,
both of Amiga OS 4 and Amiga DE. You will also see existing
and coming systems with modern hardware from different manufacturers.

Individual Computers: New xsurfadsl.device with appp update
A new version of the xsurfadsl.device, the PPPoE driver for our networking
card X-Surf, can be found in the support-area of our website. For the first
time, the archive also contains an updated version of the appp.device that
has been licensed from Haage & Partner
(see article from November, 12th).
The source code of version 2.7 that we got from Haage & Partner was different
from the binary that is being sold with the Genesis package in OS3.9 (V2.3).
Questions about the changes between the two versions could not be answered
until now. The new version provided by us (V3.1) has been updated mainly on
internal structures: The device-base code (the interface to the OS) is
completely re-written, so opening up to eight units, and freeing all
resources after closing them (especially memory) is ensured.
Therefore, we also recommend installing the new appp.device, even
if you do not own an X-Surf Ethernet card.
At this point, we want to draw your attention to the ISAcatweasel.device,
which allows using the PC-Catweasel under Amithlon. Since we have not been
able to run Amithlon on any of our computers, we depend you your help in
testing. The new archive is now packed with LHA, so difficulties with
unpacking the ARJ archive are eliminated. Adapted Catweasel mountlists
should make the installation a lot easier. (ps)

Library: SDL V1.2.2 Beta for MorphOS (Update)
On 28th of November 2001 Gabriele Greco has published a beta version 1.2.2
of his MorphOS port from the multimedia-library
'Simple DirectMedia Layer'.
This library is available for a wide range of platforms - AmigaOS, BeOS, Linux, Macintosh and Windows belong to them. The library offers a fast access to the graphic and audio abilities of the corresponding system. It therefore enables to develop games and other multimedia products like MPEG players and emulators at several platforms.

Cloanto Releases Amiga Forever 5.0
Cloanto released today version 5.0 of Amiga Forever,
the official Amiga emulation and connectivity package for PCs. New features include
just-in-time (JIT) compiler technology to dramatically increase execution speed,
new ROM and operating system files to emulate not only the Amiga computers but also
Commodore's CDTV and CD³² game consoles, and Software Manager, a content delivery and
management system for one-click news, updates and downloads.
An experimental version of the revolutionary Disk2FDI software, which makes it
possible to read Amiga floppy disks on the PC, is provided for the technically
inclined. Other improvements include support for new Windows XP and DirectX
features and new Picasso96 technology to better map Amiga graphics calls to
low-level DirectX functionality and native x86 code, in order to achieve maximum
performance without sacrificing compatibility. Cloanto publicly benchmarked the
new version of the emulation software to be 30 times faster than the previous
version (which already matched the CPU performance of the fastest Amiga 68060 silicon).
Amiga Forever can be installed or run from CD-ROM (no installation or reboot
required), and is also available in a downloadable Online Edition. In either case,
Amiga application can run side by side with the host operating system and its
applications, while taking advantage of features such as virtual memory, advanced
power management, digital rights management, NTFS filing system, wireless
networking, and thousands of past, present and future drivers for peripherals,
specifications and gadgets which the Amiga would otherwise not be able to support.

Hyperion Gives More Info about Amiga OS4
"First of all, the idea is to get the AmigaOS from 68k to the PPC. Of
course, there's a lot of code in the system, and lots of code that's beyond our reach (hardware drivers in ROMs, for example). So one of the core components is of course the 68k emulator. The JIT version is already very fast, if you have a 040/25 and a fast 603e, you'll actually be able to run some programs faster than on the physical 040/25...
The second core component will be Exec SG. This is a reimplementation of the original Exec, written in C and placed onto a hardware abstraction layer so that it ports easily from one hardware
to the other (remember, we intent to support a lot of different hardware, some of these will not have the Amiga chipset anymore).
New features (compared to the old Exec) will be virtual memory. Don't
worry, you'll not have to select "Shutdown" from the "Start" menu, you can just switch off ;) We also want to introduce some weak form of memory protection, like protecting code from being overwritten.. Later version will also include resource tracking.
The third mayor (new) building block is the new-style library interface. The cool thing about this is that it enables old 68k libraries to act as new OS4 libraries. To OS4 applications, 68k libraries will look like PPC native libraries. OTOH, new PPC only libraries will look like old 68k libraries to emulated 68k programs. This is achieved by the new library loader: Whenever a library is loaded, the "missing" part of the interface will be generated on-the-fly (by creating so called "stub" functions). So, even though a library is not yet ported to PPC, it can be used as if it were a PPC library, and as soon as it's ported, the program using it will use PPC code, even without recompiling the program (sorry if that comes out a bit complicated....)
For the initial release, we want to have at least the new Exec SG
(otherwise, the whole system wouldn't work, anyway), a PPC
native DOS, the TCP stack, new file system, and some devices. If there's still time, we'll port as much as possible to native PPC.
I think we have around 20 developers working on OS4.
A solution we're thinking about is loading a kernel image from the hard disk's boot block. The Amiga's disk structure allows arbitraty sized boot blocks, so theoretically, a whole kernel could fit there.
We will in any case offer the possibility to use something like SetPatch (including the dreaded reboot). This means that you do not have to reformat your harddrive or even repartition or something like that. As another possibility, we will try to offer the bootblock loading.
We discussed the possibility to include a UAE in the system that will kick in when binaries are executed that require the chipset. That way, running old games could be made transparent
We will apply for BPlan Pegasos developer program, but we will not get special treatment.
We will make as much information as possible available as soon as
possible. This includes documents as well as pre-release version of OS 4 for developers. Of course we want as much stuff on OS 4 as possible, so this is going to be a high priority."

ISIS comments blocking of websites
On 22. November 2001 the Chaos Computer Club
published that the Internet provider ISIS
is practicing censorship (we reported about)
by blocking particular websites. This was stopped this morning, as the company became aware of this
situation. They said, that those blockades were a result of some experiments of one of thier technicians.
The company pointed out, that whatever they would do, they would be the fool, anyway. If they block sites
people will complain about censorship, if they don't they are supposed to support radical right-wing content.
ISIS declines this technical solution, which offers so much backdors that the expense can't be justified.

PDA: AmigaNCP V2.2 Beta 2
AmigaNCP is an implementation of the Psion link protocol which is e.g.
built into the Psion S3/S3a/S3C and Psion S5 palmtop's ROM. It's main
purpose is to provide vice-versa nfs-like file access.
This small update (untested, due to lack of Psion),
tries to fix the following two reported issues:
- NCP_LinkRemoteRun() now allows up to 128
chars file names in EPOC32 (S5) mode
- AmigaNCP-FileSystem now (hopefully correctly)
implementes ACTION_SET_DATE; this should fix
the "datestamps not set for backup" problems
reported by some people
- fixed file format for Amiga2Psion clipboard
functionality (hopefully)
- now sends a "Clipboard changed" message to
the remote clipboard server when a clipboard
exchange has been executed (hopefully)
AmigaNCP requires:
- AmigaOS 2.04 or better (localization supported).
- the IBM-PC version of the 3-Link cable.

CD³²-/CDTV-Emulator: Akiko released
The CD32/CDTV emulator Akiko for Windows is now available for
download on the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
Akiko emulates a CD32 and a CDTV on PCs with Windows with the help
of an enhanced version of WinUAE. Akiko does not need the so called
extended roms of those consoles, it just requires Kickstart rom 3.1 for
CD32 emulation and Kickstart rom 1.3 for CDTV emulation. The enhanced
version of the WinUAE is included with the Akiko distribution archive.
The source code of this WinUAE version is available for download on
the Airsoft Softwair homepage. Akiko
is Shareware and the demo version has some limitations.

MIDI: Tracks & Fields now For Free, Programmer wanted
«It was ages when v1.02 was released and it was shareware (demo).
Both authors (Anders & Dick) left amiga so Jonas Hulten has
been updating it for me.
As he has not much time for it he gave me the last source code so
i can search for another coder.
As i can't get in touch with the first original coder Anders Larsson
(also made far updated pc version) i can't upload the source for free
on aminet but i can give it to a serious coder who want's to continue on
it.
So if you are a serious coder and want to continue on tracks&fields
please
contact me and tell me what programs you made so far. You have to
know assembler.
In the package there is a full registered version 1.02 and 1.04.
There is a bug that comes more on latest version that crashes when editing
patterns so there fore i put up the older v1.02.
- Warning. Backup your old preference as v1.04 saves also screenmode u use
and it doesn't work if you change to another gfx card and use the saved prefs
from the first card. This should be fixed if i find any coder out there.

- Used the 1.02 source instead
- Ctrl F3-F5: cut-copy-paste only the column the cursor is on
1.03
- Works on graphics cards - sadly the cursor looks wierd as a result.
- Doesn't scroll several rows at a time when playing. This is good.
- Removed writes to address 0 when config was loaded.
- Minor spelling corrections.
- Screen mode selection in config.
- Scaling now autoselects the current position
- About screen doesn't show up at program start

Game: Freespace Demo-Version available
On

the demo version of the current Hyperion Entertainment port of "Freespace: The Great War"
is available for download, now (download section, about 30 MB).
Freespace runs on any PPC machine (with or whithout 3D graphic board) and on
68060 systems with Permedia2 or Voodoo 3 graphic board. According to the manufacturer
the 68k version also runs on Amiga OS XL and Amithlon.
Freespace requires 64 MB RAM on PPC Amigas, and 32 MB RAM with VMM (virtual memory management)
on 68k Amigas.
Also new at the downlaod section are two updates of the Hyperion/Freespace demo CD from the Amiga 2001.
Some errors with CD32 pads were corrected.

Scenediskmag "Jurassic Pack" Celebrates ist Revival!
The legendary diskmag from the Amiga scene named "Jurassic Pack"
celebrates it's revival in the night between 23. and 24. November 2001.
After three years of delay issue #8 in English was released, today.

Textviewer: EvenMore Version 0.59
The freeware-textviewer 'EvenMore' has been published in version 0.59.
With the plugins it is now possible to convert HTML to text.

Recent history:
- Removed messy filetyping code. Created a plugin which allows filetyping, which can be easily changed using a textfile.
- Created basic HTML2Text plugin.
- Created a Linux manual to tex conversion plugin.
- Updated all plugins with an extra PROC, em_begin(). This is used as a pre-parse PROC, and is needed to tell EvenMore if it is necessary to create a new memory space for the file if the resulting contents from the plugin will be bigger than the original. Older plugins will no longer work properly!

DVD Press Release on "Black List" Start
The German Vereinigung für Datanschutz e.V (consortium for data protection), short
DVD, together with many experts from the fields of IT security and data protection
found out that users of websites often got forced to use cookies, JavaScript or ActiveX,
because there's no alternative version available.
That's why from now on the DVD publishes a
black list
as an official directory of such addresses.
"Offerors who cannot tolerate that users want to decide about their security settings
on their machines indepentently, should ask themself if they realy are set up for the Internet
future. Who thinks to have to punish users for their conscience of security by withholding
his pages from those, did not understand what e-commerce and online services actually are

Geography Program: GeoWorld® - Update 13 finished soon
The geography program GeoWorld® allows to insight the upcoming update 13.
This update, which is expected to be released in December 2001, will consist of
two substantial parts:
- Update of the main program with some new functions and data update as well.
- Release of a "GeoWorld-DeveloperTool" allowing to change and extend existing
information texts about countries, towns, an organisations.

Image cataloging: PhotoFolio update to version 2.2
PhotoFolio by Steeple Software (Paul Huxham) is a program for managing,
viewing and cataloging images which can also create thumbnails.
The program can be registered either directly with the author or be
ordered from Schatztruhe.
On 16.11.2001 an update to version 2.2 has been released. The patch
updates version 2.0 from the CD. The update contains new
libraries and modules. You'll find more information about the update
here.

Editor: CED PPC 4.21b for MorphOS
This is the official MorphOS PPC port of CygnusEd Professional 4.21.
You need a properly installed MorphOS release as well as the original
CygnusED 4 CDROM to install the PowerPC port, the 68k version of the
program won't be modified. After installation you can still use the 68k
version of CygnusEd if you plan to install it on the same partition.
The updated ed frontend automatically detects if it's run under MorphOS
or AmigaOS and uses the proper CygnusEd main binary. Please note that
you need the original CygnusEd4 CDROM to apply this patch/ppc update.
It is available from various sources including Schatztruhe.
Fixes: Current directory is now correct if launched from WB, the -keepio
and -sticky arguments now work properly & printing shouldn't crash
anymore.

AmigaPage: Workbench-Competition "Amiga Passion"
"Amiga Passion" competiton was born to take you part of the AmigaPage
(italian online magazine) life.
The target of the competition are all the Amiga users and you'll attend
with one or more of your WB Grab (max 3) that will be send to
kanuka@ciaoweb.it with "Concorso"
as subject.
The competiton goes on till the 31st December 2001. The first four positions
will win a copy of the game 'Extreme' donated by
DKGStore. In addition
AmigaPage offer a mousepad, a brooch and a poster rispectively to 1st,
2nd and 3rd classifier.
The judges are Marco Lovera, Sandra Lovera and
Claudio Marro Filosa. After 31/12/01 we'll have the time to take counsel
for a unanimous vote. All grabs that you send will be show below and
after "Amiga Passion" we'll move all in the "Computer Passion". In
conclusion I remind you that all grabs sent since now can't attend to

Emulator: SDL extension for UAE
With the extension which is available at the title link the
Amiga emulator UAE can now use the SDL library for graphics
output under Linux.
SDL stands for Simple DirectMedia Layer. The SDL library is
a cross platform library and offers functions for graphics and
sound output as well as querying input devices.
The version modified for UAE currently only works under Linux,
but there are some benefits from using SDL:
- It's now possible to use UAE in fullscreen mode as a normal
user.
- The emulator can now be used directly on the console (with
activated framebuffer), e.g. without X-Windows.

Game: New Demo-Engine for SOMS available
The new demo engine is better and faster, furthermore graphics have been
enhanced and according to
Silvio Kurze contains sound now, too.
SOMS is about an action adventure like never before released for the Amiga. Action
devotees well be have fun with the about 100 different enemies, numerous screen filling
final enemies and extended levels as well, especially if they get supported by 20
configurable weapons and the same amount of spells!
If the adventure devotee gets horrored by the above, it is to say that combats can be avoided
by cleverness, if you deal with the numerous puzzles.
Also the role game devotees, disliking the minimal possiblities to equip the characters in
action games, can knock down satisfyed! The variety starts with free naming of the 4 main
characters, goes thru the continuous enhancement of features and capabilities of your own
character, the detailed multiple-choice dialogs with about 100 persons, the sophisticated weapon system,
thru the 10 characters with own tactics, views and goals of life joining the force one by one.
