Virus Help Denmark: VHT-DK Bobek-2 Linkvirus found (update)
Supplement 13 June 2001
Accidently the wrong text for this news message was published. I replaced
that with the correct text, now. I apologize for this bad mistake.
mj
Here the proper message:
VHT-DK think to have found the installer of the link virus 'Bobek2'.
The respective archive was on Aminet, but meantime has been removed.
But there might be other infected archives, so be careful!
Known so far:
Archive name : Footro.lha
Archive size: 2.924 bytes
Archive info : Borntro from new A500 team Footro is looking for skilled A500 coders.
Installer name : 4k
Installer size : 2.784 bytes (stonecracker 4.04 packed)
Installer size : 3.316 bytes (unpackt)
Virusname : Bobek2 Linkvirus
Virus size : ca. 1036 bytes (uses polymorphic engine)
In the unpacked file you can read:
>------------------------------ CUT TEXT ------------------------------
xxxxxxxxxxx proudly presents BOBEK2 - The first binary virus for Amiga!
Credits - main coding by xxxxxxxx, polyengine by xxxxxx, installer-tool
and timer.device coding by xxxxxx! We are the best! Powered by Asm-One!
Enjoy! That is only preview of our metamorphic engine!
>------------------------------ CUT TEXT ------------------------------
Virus Help Denmark replaced the names with 'xxxx'. Thy don't want to promote
virus programmers. "They should make use of
there programming skills and make some useful programs", Jan Andersen wrote
in his mail.
Since the file could not be started the people of VHT-DK tried
an old A500 on which the virus was spread to other files.
At this time there is no cure for the virus 'Bobek2', but Jan
Erik Olausen is working for a way to make a recognition for the 'Bobek2' linkvirus.

AMI Sector One Update
This time there is a big update on AMI Sector One.
The up-to-now biggest legal and licensed Amiga game 'The Case of the
Cautious Condor' (65 MB compressed) can be downloaded, now. This
realtime adventure game was first released in 1991 for the Amiga CDTV.
Wonderful drawn graphics and the glassy digi-sound make it a highlight.
Not without cause it has been 'Game of the Year' in Japan.
Of course there are much more games like 'Blood 'n' Bullets',
'Slap 'n' Tickle', 'Bill', etc.
The two classics 'Genesis - The Third Day' (generating fractal
landscapes), and 'Deluxe Music 2.0' (best? notation program for the
Amiga) are legally available at the program area, now.
The Amiga group 'Wanted Team' now also has pages on AMI Sector One.
For example there are Amiga players and new ripped sound modules.
An update of the Coverscan section may not be missed.
Last but not least the 'Amiga Games Compendium' has been expanded with
1,100 new entries.

Microcode Solutions seeking developers and beta testers (update)
Microcode Solutions is seeking for software developers and beta testers for
a PowerPC plugin board. As it isn't told in the press release about which board
they are talking we have asked Microcode Solutions for this information and will
post the answer as appendix.
The board can be plugged into your PC, Amiga or any other PCI based computer. On
June 9th, 2001 Microcode Solutions received the first working prototype
of this board that uses a high speed PowerPC processor and two RAM sockets
allowing up to 1 GB memory on the board.
There are numerous projects in development at Microcode Solutions for this board.
To finish these they are looking for software developers. Furthermore there's a
business plan for the development of many products for this board by
third party companies as their own products.
Here's the full message:
June 9th, 2001 - Today, Microcode Solutions received our first working
prototype PowerPC board. This concludes nearly 4 months worth of design
and negotiations.
The board plugs into your PC, Amiga, or any other PCI based machine, and
uses a high speed PowerPC processor with two RAM sockets, allowing up to
1GB of RAM to be placed on the board!
Microcode Solutions has numerous projects in development for this board,
and is seeking software developers to complete some of these projects.
We also have a business plan for the development of many products for
this board, by 3rd party developers, as their own products.
Basically, Microcode Solutions would be handing out product ideas
that will be huge successes, at no charge. There are just so many
things that this hardware is capable of doing, that Microcode
Solutions doesn't have the time to write all of the software AND
handle developer technical support, at the same time. Microcode
Solutions plans to make their money in the sales of the hardware, and
will be offering boards and direct technical support for free (to
those developers and companies that qualify).
Microcode Solutions is looking for qualified beta testers for this board.
Beta testers must be in the U.S.A. (no exceptions), and must sign a
multi-page confidentiality agreement. Microcode Solutions is looking
for beta testers with extensive experience in Windows 98, Windows
2000, Windows NT, and MacOS. Experience with BeOS and Linux is a plus.
If you are interested in developer information, please contact Jim Drew
via email: jimdrew@microcode-solutions.com
If you are interested in becoming a beta tester, please send a summary
of your computer experience, what system(s) you have, and how much time
you can devote to beta testing to:
tech@microcode-solutions.com.
ps
Appendix 09.06.2001:
On asking Jim Drew, CEO of Mircocode Solutions, informed us that this board
was delivered by their board manufacturer. The named PowerPC plugin board
comes also from Mircocode Solutions themselves.

final version in 2000 at the Neuss Amiga Show. Apano Sin will run on any Amiga model
and is available on floppy disk, only.
Since the release of the game ´Apano Sin´ was one year ago and
a new edition would not be profitable, Alfred Knötig decided to sell the copies remaining
(incl. wrapping and manual) a the historical price of only 20DM. Once these copies are
sold, the game might vanish to never be seen again.

Compiler: GenesysOne for Amiga announced
With the following press release Xin Software Design announces a new compiler which first is to be developed for AmigaOS (68k).
4. Juni 2001: GenesysOne announced
Considering the pros and cons of Amiga situation: For a longer time Genesys Compiler is being planned and is now to be developed for AmigaOS (first only for 68k), too - all tests have been successfully completed for making a compiler for Amiga.
Genesys compiles Genesys-sourcecodes as well as C and C++-sourcecodes.
This is possible without any problems because of the high similarity of the programming languages because the compiler is an extension of the programming language C++.
Additional features will simplify the use of ARexx-ports, several tasks and lists as well as deliver additional datatypes for scientific tasks and allow a better control over datatypes and data.
Genesys-projects are object-orientated in all sectors but it is also possible to program processor independable assembler. The abilities of the programming language are being extended concerning the machine as well as the concept.
In order to ensure the controlled development presently there are defined a lot of test cases and the project as well as the implementation are being exactly planned. Also the connection to the developer area 'void' is being defined.
After the Amiga-port further Genesys-compilers have been into consideration for Linux as well as x86 and PPC-hardware.
GenesysOne-Compiler will be the compiler which exists first and which is the equivalent of the incomplete beta version of the final Genesys-compiler.
The first final versions will be probably published at first quartal of 2002.

QNX 6 now ith PPC support
The current beta version of QNX RTP (the system which was formerly planned as "new AmigaOS") now supports as runtime-platform PPC (additional to many other processors), too. Because of that with QNX software can be developed (currently on x86) which run on PPC-platforms.
This is very interesting because QNX is still always a very powerful and multimedia-able operating system and the producers (as always up to now) have carried out their promises to support PPC.

Hardwaretip: Volume-Control with multimedia keyboard
Thomas Wenzel describes how to use a multimedia keyboard for volume control:
Control the master volume of your Amiga/Prelude soundsystem with the special keys
of a multimedia keyboard:).A normal PC-Multimedia keyboard, Guido Mersmanns MMKeyboard
Interface and my new mixing commodity for the Prelude make it possible.
That's how it works:
In combination with the delivered "driver" commodity MMKeyboard Interface is able
to control the special keys of the multimedia keyboard and configure them with
free choosable functions. For audio purposes many keyboards have "Volume +",
"Volume -", and "Mute"-keys for this special functions. The new Prelude mixer
has now an AREXX port that understands VOLUP, VOLDOWN, and MUTE. With the Prelude
you are still able to use the Amiga soundsignal (PAULA) and now control its
volume, too, with the keyboard.
