Heise: Netscape: Browsers only second-best
»Netscape does not want to be regarded as a browser manufacturer any longer.
"The browser is a crown jewel. But in six months, you won't think of Netscape
as a browser company anymore," Netscape president Jim Bankoff told Agency Reuters.
With the media blessing of the holding company AOL Time Warner, the former
synonym for browser software will become an internet media center. In future
surfers will find a broad range of contents by Time Warner there. Under

As previously reported, the Benelux Amiga Show is taking place in Rotterdam on June 23rd, 2001 together with a
LAN party which are organized by the Dutch print magazine ´Amiga Scene´ and the

Amiga scene with his lengendary music which he produces as Dr. Awesome.
In his personal invitation which you can find at the titlelink, organizer Marvin Droogsma

though we were ´overtaken´ by other systems. He says we're no rookies
and that the AmigaOne gives us the chance to be active once more. He invites all
Amigans to create this special feeling by visiting and experiencing the Benelux Amiga Show.

Unfortunately thee is now new version of glQuake (previous

Game: Robot Shooter 'Apano Sin'
´Apano Sin´ is a classic robot shooter game, developed for ECS machines in
1993. Alfred Knötig then took over development and distribution and presented the
final version in 2000 at the Neuss Amiga Show. Apano Sin will run on any Amiga model
and is available on floppy disk, only.
Since the release of the game ´Apano Sin´ was one year ago and
a new edition would not be profitable, Alfred Knötig decided to sell the copies remaining
(incl. wrapping and manual) a the historical price of only 20DM. Once these copies are
sold, the game might vanish to never be seen again.

Compiler: GenesysOne for Amiga announced
With the following press release Xin Software Design announces a new compiler which first is to be developed for AmigaOS (68k).
4. Juni 2001: GenesysOne announced
Considering the pros and cons of Amiga situation: For a longer time Genesys Compiler is being planned and is now to be developed for AmigaOS (first only for 68k), too - all tests have been successfully completed for making a compiler for Amiga.
Genesys compiles Genesys-sourcecodes as well as C and C++-sourcecodes.
This is possible without any problems because of the high similarity of the programming languages because the compiler is an extension of the programming language C++.
Additional features will simplify the use of ARexx-ports, several tasks and lists as well as deliver additional datatypes for scientific tasks and allow a better control over datatypes and data.
Genesys-projects are object-orientated in all sectors but it is also possible to program processor independable assembler. The abilities of the programming language are being extended concerning the machine as well as the concept.
In order to ensure the controlled development presently there are defined a lot of test cases and the project as well as the implementation are being exactly planned. Also the connection to the developer area 'void' is being defined.
After the Amiga-port further Genesys-compilers have been into consideration for Linux as well as x86 and PPC-hardware.
GenesysOne-Compiler will be the compiler which exists first and which is the equivalent of the incomplete beta version of the final Genesys-compiler.
The first final versions will be probably published at first quartal of 2002.

QNX 6 now ith PPC support
The current beta version of QNX RTP (the system which was formerly planned as "new AmigaOS") now supports as runtime-platform PPC (additional to many other processors), too. Because of that with QNX software can be developed (currently on x86) which run on PPC-platforms.
This is very interesting because QNX is still always a very powerful and multimedia-able operating system and the producers (as always up to now) have carried out their promises to support PPC.

Hardwaretip: Volume-Control with multimedia keyboard
Thomas Wenzel describes how to use a multimedia keyboard for volume control:
Control the master volume of your Amiga/Prelude soundsystem with the special keys
of a multimedia keyboard:).A normal PC-Multimedia keyboard, Guido Mersmanns MMKeyboard
Interface and my new mixing commodity for the Prelude make it possible.
That's how it works:
In combination with the delivered "driver" commodity MMKeyboard Interface is able
to control the special keys of the multimedia keyboard and configure them with
free choosable functions. For audio purposes many keyboards have "Volume +",
"Volume -", and "Mute"-keys for this special functions. The new Prelude mixer
has now an AREXX port that understands VOLUP, VOLDOWN, and MUTE. With the Prelude
you are still able to use the Amiga soundsignal (PAULA) and now control its
volume, too, with the keyboard.

DTP: AmigaWriter Filter V1.1 for PageStream
AmigaWriter-Filter is a new import filter for Soft-Logik's DTP program
PageStream. Click on the thumbnail to the right to see a screenshot of
what it can do!
It consists of two parts:
The text filter inserts the main flow-text of your AmigaWriter
documents into the current PageStream article with most of its text
formattings.
The document filter loads your AmigaWriter documents as if they were native PageStream
documents, retaining as much of your original document as possible.
Applications
AmigaWriter-Filter was designed to
- print AmigaWriter documents to PostScript
- export AmigaWriter documents to PDF
- use AmigaWriter as a WYSIWYG replacement for PageLiner
- ... and anything else you can think of :-))
The filter comes with the usual options you would expect from a
PageStream import filter: it performs typographical
conversions for quotes, dashes and ellipses. In addition, it allows
you to choose the quote format (available are US, French,
German and German-French). The text filter has another
option called Apply Styles Only which can be a great help to achieve consistent layout, especially when
several authors are working on one text.

Instant-Messenger: GUI development for STRICQ V2
On ANN
Douglas F. McLaughlin wrote, that he started development of STRICQ v2. In this
version the GUI will be completely independent from the rest of the program.
This allows STRICQ v2 to be equipped with different GUI's. People interested
in developing a GUI (MUI or other) for STRICQ v2 can mail to
Douglas F. McLaughlin for closer
discussions about the implementation.
There will be a SDK for GUI developers.

c't newspart: 'Mac OS 9 on the AMIGA'
The AMIGA is making headlines once again in the current print issue of the c't
(German computer magazine), page 39:
»Already for years is the AMIGA for some fans the better Macintosh. Now the
MacOS versions 8.5 to 9.1 and therefore PowerPC native programs, too, can be
used on the computer - with iFusion.
The British distributor Blittersoft sells the emulator for 430 Mark via the
internet (www.blittersoft.com). The software is said to support up to 2
GByte RAM, disk drives, harddisks and CD-ROMs. Requirements for the use is
according to Blittersoft an AMIGA computer with a PPC board, 32 MByte RAM and
Cybergraphics version 4. (adb)«
This headline shows very exactly that the interest in the AMIGA is also
depending on the really existing (and not only announced) products. (ps)
