Blitz3D: AmiBlitz2-rubric online again
From the Blitz3D web site:
"Most people noticed instantly that not only the design has changed a little but also the rubrics have been modified. Although this site's main feature is a lack of content, we're sure that this will change soon.

The most important change is the introduction of the section AmiBlitz2. I hope that CjStroker accept my lack of time and won't ask me twice each day when it will be really full up ;)

The visitors' book is also new. It's not only for the visitors of the BlitzBasic-PC pages but also for all guests who find the AmiBlitz2 section much more interesting. Now you have an opportunity to write down your opinions and complaints.

In the rubric article the first review has been published. Blitzmaster was so kind as to give me the latest and still unpublished version of Worldedit. Enjoy reading it." (sd) (Translation: sr)

Amiga Arena: interview with Mauro Fontana
"Back from dead" - Mauro Fontana breaths life again into the already thought dead editor BlacksEditor! BlacksEditor may be counted to the best editors, Amiga Arena made a very complete interview with the actual developer Mauro Fontana. The interview is available in German and English.

Once more it is up to the users if BlacksEditor will come up with new features and whether we will enrich the Amiga with one more "piece of software" in the future! (ps) (Translation: wk)

Filesharing: Audiogalaxy Satellite for AmigaOS version 1.1.1 (cvs 1.38)
There's an update to version 1.1.1 been released (cvs 1.38). AudioGalaxy is a known P2P file sharing service. For Linux exists an open source conversion named "OpenAG", now there's a version of this for AmigaOS available. Further details can be found in the readme.

The program can be downloaded from the home page of the author. In addition you need the ixemul.library (at least v48, to be found on the home page, too) to run the program.

For those who are not familiar with AudioGalaxy yet:
The AudioGalaxy client owns no GUI (graphical user interface) as it runs only in the background. Just run the program, then create an account at audiogalaxy.com and log in using a web browser. Optionally one can use the frontend FSWatcher by Thomas Igracki.

The file search itself as well as the downloads will then be done via web browser. (ps) (Translation: wk)

EZP@gerNG Plugin-SDK Appearances
The Software Developer Kit (SDK) shows in what ways the external call-service plugins may be programmed, in order to send EZP@gerNG over a Web gateway. This is a way for EZP@gerNG broadcasts to not only be sent over the built-in or bundled services and protocols, but also for any service that has an associated plugin.

Near the documentation of these programming excerpts the SDK demonstrates the use of the ezhttp.library and the different functions of a simple HTTP communication, as might be used in the loading of a web-page or the sending of forms.

The SDK is available in download section. (ps) (Translation: dm)

Matrox G1000 offered - including OS4 Support (Update)
The graphic card manufacturer Matrox appears to intend to introduce the new product "Matrox G1000" on the 14th of May. The first listings of the technical specifications are shown on many different hardware-oriented websites: matrox.jpg, text.

On ANN Ben Hermans (Hyperion) opened up speculation about whether OS4 drivers would be available for this card: "Oh, you can really trust in the existence of this card. The thing totally creams the Geforce 4. We saw it in action... yeah, OS4 will support this card. But not right away, modern architecture of this type requires Warp3D V5 ("Nova")... This card is lightyears ahead of the other stuff on the market. The only thing that even comes close to it is the P10 from 3DLabs. I'm just happy that I can finally let the cat out of the bag."

Update:
Ben Hermans, the project leader of OS4 found his ANN remarks on several different news forums (see below links); his Matrox G1000 "chatter" was quoted. Apparently Ben was the first to actually see this card. There was speculation that the remarks were really an attack on the nVidia-Imperium, but Hermans disagreed with that in a new ANN posting (that maintained the truthfulness of his earlier comments).

Amiga Arena - Interview with Marius Schwarz
A short while ago a new IRC client debuted: "BenderIRC." The first release of this client was able to square off against competitors such as "AmIRC" and "BlackIRC" through a configurable GUI and a plugin system.

Marius "Cyborg" Schwarz talked with Amiga Arena about the development of BenderIRC, IRC channels, Amiga, and what we may expect in the future. The interview (in German) is viewable here.

Amiga Arena comment by Olaf Köbnik:
"I read some of comments about BenderIRC in the forums, and I want to appeal to you all that at the end of the day it depends on us if these new programs will be developed any further. Programmers are guided by bug reports and constructive suggestions. That's something only we, the users, can provide.

If one enjoys a particular program, she or he should send a short email to the developer, because without that it can very quickly occur that without this feedback the program gets tucked away on the shelf. The Amiga developers are already too few. Lets make an effort to keep the communication going, and surely more people will." (ps) (Translation: dm)

Fun Time World (ANF)

Fun Time World: Distribution of Frogger&SoftCinema quicker now
Some users who ordered Frogger or SoftCinema are still waiting for delivery. Unfortunately we had to stop the distribution short-dated to look for a better solution. The former kind of distribution has taken too much time and therefore wasn't to handle anymore. We had the choice either to stop the distribution at all or to think about a better solution. After some talk with the developer we found an alternative possibility to maintain the distribution and to deliver the software quicker than before.

Everyone who ordered software from us but hasn't received it, has been informed by us about the next steps. New orders will now regulary be sent within the next three days, but also often within the same day.

With Frogger and SoftCinema you will get video/animation player set which is capable of playing mostly all known formats. The development of that software still continues so there will be steadily new updates, which will include not only new features but also significant speed increasements. The player set is time limited available at our old page (title link), the new site is expected to be online from May, the 13th 2002. Of course there are orders per e-mail possible as well. Jobs at "Ermentrud"
We are still urgently looking for assistants for the graphic adventure "Ermentrud"!

Firstly we are still looking for an animation graphics artist! There has been no response after my last claim!! There should be somebody who feels perfect for that!? Secondly there is still need for a colorist for background pictures.

There are detailed descriptions at this site http://www.inutilis.de/software/jobs.html (there you' re able to download example pictures)...

· Animation graphics artist
Ermentrud will have loads of animations (persons). The animation graphics artist's task is to create animations from existing fixed images. Graphics are made within a closed 64 colour palette. For candidacy please send animations of walking, with 8 frames each, made from these fixed images.

· Colorist
The background pictures drawn be made with pencils and then they will be scaned. We are looking for someone who might help with the coloration. The pictures should be colorated in that kind that the original drawings will not be painted over but will be colored. Therefore a graphic processor with layers is required (e.g. Photogenics). This example shows how it should look like (of course without the white areas!). For cancidacy please colorize this picture! (ps) (Translation: ub)

clickBOOM: 666 for PPC-Amiga announced
As announced in the most recent S-File, clickBOOM have today on schedule disclosed details of the first game. The game is 666, which would most likely be labelled 3D-Action-Adventure, and is clickBOOM's own development.

Supposedly 666 is to contain many untypical twists, and is planned for release for Power-PC Amiga, Mac and Windows in the third quarter of 2003. clickBOOM are still looking for games programmers.

Sofia Tsiotsikas, public relations officer at clickBOOM, also addresses the rumours that clickBOOM was to be bought out by a large video game company, but clickBOOM decided against the takeover to stay independent. (ps) (Translation: cb)

USB card HIGHWAY available from 31.05.2002
The USB card HIGHWAY will be general available on May, 31st 2002 and will be distributed by KDH Datentechnik. This is the first time that Amiga users can connect and use modern USB devices in connection with their classic Amigas.

HIGHWAY is a Zorro II USB card and comes with an integrated 4-port-hub. The user has the possibility to connect up to four USB devices without the need for an additional hub. In addition, the HIGHWAY card can be expanded by the new 10Mbit ethernet modul NORWAY without wasting an additional Zorro slot. A compatibility list for Zorro-boards and Zorro-cards can be found here.

The boards have been developed and manufactured by E3B (Michael Boehmer). The worldwide distribution is done by KDH Datentechnik and your local Amiga dealer will have the cards in stock by end of May.

The scope of delivery includes the USB software stack Poseidon by Chris Hodges. Drivers for USB mice, keyboard and parallel interface (printers) and mass storage devices (SCSI-emulation: e.g. flashcard-reader, ZIP-devices, digicams following the MSD-standard) will be shipped in addition to the HIGHWAY card without any additional cost. More drivers (webcam, digicam and printers) are being developed right now by third party companies.

We do support the development of the Amiga OS4.0 contained USB-stack by providing the USB cards HIGHWAY and SUBWAY. Both cards serve as a reference-hardware for the software-development and will be directly supported by OS4.0. Alternatively it will be possible to use the provided Poseidon stack. (ps)

Instant Messenger: STRICQ-GUI (ReAction) released 4 May
On 4 May 2002 Glenn Hisdal released a new version of ReAction-GUI for the Instant Messenger StrICQ V2. This GUI is an alternative to MUI-GUI of StrICQ. Compared to the previous version the following modifications were made:
  • Added more info to the send/write message windows.
  • Preferences are saved on exit.
  • Status is read from preference file on startup. (If you are online when quitting the program, you will be logged on automatically.)
  • Fixed some bugs (not that I think it will help those who couldn't get it running.
STRICQ-GUI should run from AmigaOS (it was only tested on AmigaOS V3.9) and it needs StrICQ V2.8.1. The installation is described in Readme.

3D: 3DLabs' P10 VPU - When a CPU & GPU collide
On 3 May 2002 an English article about P10-VPU (Visual Processing Unit) by 3DLabs was published at AnandTech.

As a 3D processor this VPU exceeds the previous possibilities of the GPUs (Vertex, Pixel-Shader) and is supposed to be more easily programmed. The article describes the basic architecture of P10-VPU and compares it to GeForce4.

The article doesn't talk about the command setting of VPU. Some information about this is included in the Heise newsticker news: 'Graphic processor for everything'.

The chip is supposed to contain more than 200 SIMD units and it can support complex operations such as loops and subroutines, which the current Vertex and Pixel-Shaders cannot do.

Astronomy: news about Digital Almanac
Achim Stegemann wrote:
Because of the results of the poll held by me regarding Digital Almanac and OS4 I have taken according measures regarding the code of Digital Almanac.

The following has been removed or tightened:

  • Only modern upgraded Amigas will be supported (FPU, graphics board >16 Bit, at least 32 MB RAM, OS 3.9).
  • Program functions that were not of interest for the customers have been removed (external telescope control, VSOP87 planets theory).
  • MPEG animation has been removed as this is too much for the Amiga regarding its capacity.
This is new:
  • Implementation of the Hipparcos stars catalogue as cross index.
  • Improved data about stars parallaxes of almost 100,000 stars.
  • Improved star ephemerides, Hertzsprung-Russel diagram.
  • Improved GUI. Many single functions have been integrated in a page orientated window and sorted by topics (see MUI prefs, STRICQ etc).
  • Automation of some settings that had to be done by hand before.
  • Animation size independant of screen size.
  • ... and some more things.

About the implementation of an ARexx interface is still not decided. But in case of an implementation shall the communication not only be done from ARexx in direction of the program but an ARexx script shall also be able to receive data from the program (via so called STEM variables). But ARexx will only be implemented if there's an big enough interest by the users existing.

Soon I'll upload the first beta snapshot of the new DA3 version to the net.

Further information as well as screenshots of the most important visual changes can be taken from the DA3 site (title link). (ps) (Translation: wk)

Statement from Hyperion: GREX and Warp3D performance problems
It has come to our attention that the GREX consumer-version suffers from serious performance problems when used in conjunction with Warp3D and a Voodoo 3.

The same Voodoo 3 Warp3D driver-code runs substantially faster on the Prometheus and the Mediator which is clearly a sub-optimal situation considering the much higher bandwidth available on the Cyberstorm PPC/GREX 4000 combo.

We can only conclude that something in the consumer-version of the GREX is interfering with the normal operation of the driver, be it the software, be it the hardware itself or a combination of both.

It's equally unclear if the same problem arises also on the GREX-1200.

We want to take the opportunity to strenuously deny the rumour spread by certain dealers that we are trying to extract an additional license-fee from DCE to correct this problem.

Time permitting, we would be most happy to correct this problem although we fear this may well prove impossible without the cooperation of DCE.

Yesterday Mark Olsen has published version 1.1 of the VNC client 'MorphVNC' for MorphOS. The client supports encodings like raw, copyrect, RRE, CoRRE and now also ZLib.

VNC stands for 'Virtual Network Computing'. With VNC it is possible to control a computer over another computer with the help of the Internet by transfering the graphical interface from one computer to another one. This always works and does not depend on the used systems.

Mailchecker: YGM version 2.7
SFXSoft has published version 2.7 of YGM. YGM stands for 'You've Got Mail'. With YGM you can check an unlimited amount of POP3-mailboxes for existing e-mails without having to start the mostly prefered e-mail client which often takes much of the resources. YGM shows how many e-mails wait to be downloaded as well as their estimated size.

The most important new feature in this version is the added argument QUIT to finish a running YGM.

CCC: Rescue Your Personal Copies
Many CD companies now use copy-protection for PC CD-ROM drives. With this comes the fact that one can't make copies for her or his own legitimate purposes, for instance to listen to on a portable MP3 player. One can't copy a couple tracks on his or her own CD without problems.

AROS News
The development of AROS proceeds steadily. Again we have a few new things to report:

Thanks to Fabio Alemagna, the shell window which gets opened when you use "Execute Command" now stays open until you close it so you can actually use it.

Staf Verhaegen worked some more on RexxSysLib.library.

Georg Steger implemented PGA_NotifyBehaviour and PGA_RenderBehaviour in gadget.class. The behaviour of the propg.class can now be configured with this to behave like on the Amiga or in a "nice" way. The default (if you don't specify anything) is "nice". The GUI of Font prefs was improved. Many bugs in diskfont.library were fixed. There will soon be a program to convert TrueType fonts into Amiga/AROS bitmap fonts to use them with diskfont.library without having to convert them (ie. you can open these fonts in all sizes without having .font files for them on disk). A bug in ReadArgs() (the flags /K/A didn't work correctly) was fixed, too.

Matt Parsons updated the AROS User Guide. Some debug statements in the screen blanker were removed. Our LoadWB has now an About menu item which prominently shows the names of the AROS developers. Credit where credit is due :-)

Henning Kiel, Fabio Alemagna and Georg Steger ... helped ... Matt with LoadWB ;-) (Note: That's an internal joke and only for the records... ahem).

Did you notice? No Zune in the last post. Of course, Sebastian Bauer wasn't idling around. He just didn't commit :-)

Sebastian Heutling added a program to install GRUB with RDB support. (ps) (Translation: dm)

MRE-1.Mai-Edition: ClassAction 4.40 and StartMenu 1.20
You had to wait a long time, but I hope you are content with the things I have done meanwhile: ClassAction 4.40 and StartMenu 1.20 are ready, with many of your proposals implemented. Some changes: ClassAction has an improved way of copying, classes for volumes and assigns, "Open with" and "Copy to" submenus, an own file attribute window, and many little improvements like file comment display and vertical arranged listers. StartMenu has now lost the nerving bugs; it can control commodities, opens on other screens and has an improved window button display.

All MRE modules only contain the English language. I will prepare the translations, they will follow in the next weeks. (ps)

New benchmarks from "Project Petunia"
The author of "Project Petunia", the 68k JIT emulator for AmigaOS4, has released new benchmarks for this emulator (title link).

Ben Hermans of Hyperion commented those benchmarks within the comments of ANN as follows:

"At a 600 mhz G3 with on-die L2 cache and a 133 mhz FSB you might expect a much higher speed than with a 150-200 mhz 060. I would guess a 300 mhz as an absolute minimum. On current PPC cards the relevant benchmarks of petunia are slowed down by several facts:

  • The 68k processor is stealing still some cycles simply because it's still "awake". Once it will be made completly slept this will result in a reasonable gain of performance.
  • Dual processor architecture with context switches and cache flushes
  • WarpOS is used and not Exec SG
All in all I guess that the emulator will reach the performance of a 060/50 as a minimum even on the slowest (160 mhz) BlizzardPPC cards. (ps) (Translation: ub)

amiga-news.de: New partnership site - Amiga Arena
From today on the Amiga Arene has become a new partnership site with amiga-news.de Responsible for that site is Olaf Köbnik who describes that site as follows:

Since 1998 it is Amiga Arena's task to support the Amiga shareware and freeware market. With many time limited offers for shareware some new impetus should be given initially and the trust between developers and users should have been improved.
Beside those special offers (which actually aren't enforced) Amiga Arena informs with many current interviews and tries to build "a bridge" between users and developers.
Furthermore Amiga Arena tries to facilitate the lifting of control mostly of "shareware" and offers along with games some high quality applications for free download. A selected link list perfects the services of that site. Plus that there are further activities like e. g. arrangements of developers, beta testers, support and sales of commercial software and some other. (ps) (Translation: ub)

Vintage Computer Festival Europe in Munich
As already reported will for the third time the "Vintage Computer Festival Europe (VCF)" come to Munich on 27. and 28. April 2002. Goal of the Vintage Computer Festival is to support the preservation and the maintenance of 'historical' computers and other (E)DV devices, to awake the interest in 'superfluous' hard- and software and especially to have fun in it. The VCF is in the meantime not only a regular event in the Californian Silicon Valley but also a fix point in the European appointment books.

So let us return to the good old days when hacker were no security consultants, bytes no Megabytes and Kleine Grüne Männchen were just Kleine Gruene Maennchen!

Of course does our Amiga system have to appear here. Among the registered exhibitions is
"The Amiga history - From the unfortunate games console to the multimedia workstation" by Thorsten Kuphaldt. People living in and near Munich shouldn't miss the event at all! (jm) (Translation: wk)

New LDDCheck in the works
Michael Dietrich:
Unfortunately is Heiko Schröder, the author of LDDCheck, since August 2000 not active on the Amiga anymore, "AmigaSystem.org doesn't exist anymore since last year!" he wrote to me on 25. April 2002. As many Amiga users appreciate the service of the possibility to check online whether existing libraries, datatypes and devices were still up-to-date and, if needed, to download a current version I asked Heiko whether I may continue the project.

He gave me the permission and is pleased that his two years of work on the project weren't wasted. The following projects has he entrusted to me:

  • LibGuide
  • DTypeGuide
  • DevGuide
He will even deliver all scripts for the Internet so that we do not have to restart from scratch! As I can't realize the project on my own I'm looking for people who would like to participate in the project. Interested ones should send an email to Michael Dietrich or contact me via ICQ: Wolverine (107370055). (Translation: wk)

Amiga Arena: Full version of Breed96 version 1.3
One of the "most wanted" shareware games of the Amiga Arena was Breed96 by Damian Tarnawsky. It took a long time to make a free version possible but now Breed96 is available for free download in version 1.3!

Breed96 belongs to the best shareware games which has been developed for the Amiga and it should be commercially distributed by Vulcan Software after the developer Damian Tarnawsky worked three months on the next part Breed2000. But Breed2000 was never published by Vulcan Software.

Breed96 is a space colonisation game with elements from Sim City, Reunion and Deuteros. You have to build up your colony and to produce ore, food and buildings. You have to manage famines, attacks of Aliens and similar problems as well as explore and populate planets or leading wars.

Hints:
Damian Tarnawsky has not got the original version of Breed96 and therefore with his permission the cracked (keyfile) version 1.3 is available! Should be there anybody who has got a keyfile or the full version of Breed96 1.3b then please contact me! Thanks! (ps) (Translation: dr)

Amiforce: Amiblitz version 2.26 available
From today on you can download the updated archive of Amiblitz version 2.26 under the title link. Soon you cal also download it from the Aminet (already uploaded). Now there is also a German version of the following components:
  • Amiblitz 2.26 (compiler)
  • PED 2.26 (editor)
  • Amiblitz2.readme
  • Amiblitz2faq.txt
  • Amiblitzhistory.txt
In order to get the German version you only simply have to rename the file PED_ger to PED. Then you start AmiBlitz2_ger and the German version will be opened.

Of course the English version is still always part of the archive.

For a problem-free work with Amiblitz 2.26 and PED 2.26 you should also install the disassembler.library which is part of the MMUlib-package (available on Aminet). But Amiblitz do work without this library. A requester will remind you to install it. ;-) Direct download link: MMULib.lha.

For the information of further changes and bug fixes please read the history which is a component of the archive. Besides a mailinglist there is also a forum for interested people. Please also visit http://www.blitz-2000.co.uk for a big archive of Blitz2-material and much more. Thanks a lot to Bernd Roesch who made the realization possible. (ps) (Translation: dr)

Three news at THE KICKSTART ARCHIVES
  1. The webpages based distribution on CD-ROM about history, persons, models, clones, specials, peripherie, operating systems and support of the Amiga is now available in version V2.0.

The massive growth in volume, especially caused by the update to ´Amiga Interactive Guide- 5th anniversary edition´ from Gareth Knight (13/03/2002), created the necessity for the transition to a double-CD. Belatedly: Congratulations Gareth!

The PDF manual collection were taken out to the second CD. All news, updates, the release history and requirements are to find within the ReadMe. Price and shipment kept unchanged

  2. THE KICKSTART ARCHIVES introduces its new homepage.

  3. The home page has been extended with a further online service:
Amiga-Ethernet with bridgeboard and an ISA network card. This tutorial detailly describes how ISA network cards can be used. Sure: Not trivial at all. These screenshots and background information, chapter by chapter, might also be suitable for "non freaks" to finish (hopefully) the installation of the hard- and software.

VHI-drivers for USB-digicams and USB-webcams
We are very happy to announce that VHI-drivers for USB-digicams and USB-webcams will soon be available.

It will soon be possible to also use more recent cameras with VHI Studio and benefit from all its advantages. In contrast to a USB-card reader VHI Studio communicates directly with the camera via the VHI driver. This opens up completly new possibilities to the user, making it possible to create timelapse-animations, use the digital camera as a webcam, make changes to internal settings via a comfortable user interface, correct pictures using its correction-tools or just creating a quick overview of the pictures in the camera.

Supported USB-webcams will be handled like a videoboard in VHI Studio.

In the last few weeks we´ve extended the VHI-standard and made the required changes to VHI Studio to support USB. As the development of at least two API-incompatible USB-stacks (Poseidon by Chris Hodges (for Highway/Subway, MorphOS, maybe Amithlon) and the USB Stack contained in AmigaOS 4.0) on the AMIGA-market is forseeable, we furthermore have created a stack-independant layer (called IOUSB) between the driver and the respective USB-stack that will ensure support for the different systems.

Thanks to a close cooperation with E3B (hardware of Highway/Subway) and Chris Hodges (author of Poseidon) the support for Poseidon is already complete. Support for AmigaOS 4.0 and its stack will be added when the development of AmigaOS 4.0 has completed. We´re already in contact with the AmigaOS 4.0-developerteam, so that adapted drivers should be available from us for the release of AmigaOS 4.0.

The first driver, which will support the Kodak®-Digicams DC 240, DC 280, DC 3400 and DC 5000, currently undergoes final betatests with Poseidon.

Development of drivers for other devices will depend on the demands of the market. We therefore have created a little poll and would appreciate a high number of participants.

To the poll (ps)

AFUA

AFUA: French Amiga usergroup has been visiting Thendic (Update)
Bertrand Presles, president of the French usergroup AFUA (Association Française des Utilisateurs d'Amiga) has been visiting Thendic in Paris on April, the 23rd 2002 and was talking with Bill Buck, Rakesh and Sharwin (Coyote Flux) and several other employees about MorphOS, Pegasos and the other products distributed by Thendic. Some pictures, a movie and an English report are to find following the title link, of course that one is also available in French.

Thendic is the company, that will distribute BPlan´s Pegasos board; further information you might find with our interview which is available in German and English.

Update:
Because the server of AFUA wasn´t capable of the run on it Bertrand Presles, the president, has permitted to set up a mirror for the relevant pages and to translate the report to German (which still has to be done).

Thendic-France Report
Author: Bertrand Presles

In the 23rd of April 2002 i go to Thendic-France where i could meet Bill Buck, the famous Coyote Flux guys and the others employees of this company. I've also seen the Pegasos working under MorphOS. You should note that the MorphOS version i have seen is a development version, that means that there is debug output every second that slow down the computer and so the performances i could see weren't as good as they should be with the final version of the Pegasos.

I could talk about lot of things with Bill and the Coyote Flux, i've particularly learn that the Eclipsis project will consist of a handheld computer which will use a PowerPC processor and run under MorphOS. It will have an amazing graphic chip which can be compared to something like the Copper but a lot better ;). It'll also feature AGA emulation and so will be able to run existing AGA Amiga softwares. The goal of this project is to offer an handheld computer which has capacities close to a desktop computer and allowing to use the same applications as you can run on the Pegasos. But don't expect to see an Eclipsis before 2003.

I've also have the luck to admire the other products distributed by Thendic-France like the ComCams which are wireless cameras (802.11b) very easy to install and use. I've also seen a Tri-Cam which is a black box which content three video cameras allowing to see the globality of a room. The big advantage is that this box don't look like a camera but more like an alarm and can easily not be noticed. This box is also wireless.

Finally, i've seen the CashBoys which are devices for credit card payment and also bar code readers.

Concerning the Pegasos, i could see the capacities of this marvelous computer thanks to some demos on CandyFactory Pro and Softcinema. And i've to admit that, despite the debugging outputs, it runs pretty well. You can see a video of Matrix (Divx) below but notice that the little stops every seconds are due to the debugging log that it sent to the serial port every second so the effective speed that we can expect in the final version of the Pegasos can be constated between this debug seconds ;)

Personally, i'll definitely buy a Pegasos when it'll be available ;)

The photo below show the front side of the Thendic's Pegasos. This is a well designed standard ATX tower.

Pegasos Front

Below you can see the non customized Workbench running on the Pegasos. Obviously this is the Workbench as you know it, so it is as customable as a normal Workbench and the final version of MorphOS will have lot of parts of the GUI running natively and with some new cool stuffs.

MorphOS Workbench

The picture below is a screenshot of Quake 2 Beta running on a Voodoo3 on an Amiga 4000. This game run perfectly well and show that we can expect all the game we want in the future on the Pegasos (Of course for games that will be available ;) )

Quake 2

The picture below show a global view of the Amiga part of the company. We can see Bill, Sharwin and Rakesh. Notice also the impressive number of Amigas ;-)

Global view

Below it's a picture of the back of the Pegasos. We can notice that it fits perfectly on an ATX tower and we can recognise the impressive standard connectivities included by default.

Pegasos Back

Finaly you can watch a little movie showing Matrix running on SoftCinema on MorphOS (You can download it and see it with Action, Moovid or SoftCinema).

Matrix on Pegasos

I'd like to thanks Bill, Sharwin, Rakesh, Thierry, Eric and the others for their welcome, their adhesion to the AFUA and for their cool little presents ;) (ps) (Translation: ub)

Amiga Inc.: AmigaOS 4 Screenshots online (Update II)
The first screenshots of the GUI of the upcoming AmigaOS 4 are now available at the title link. These shots depict only some new features like configurable sliders, menus and system-images. Another new feature is the possibility to move a window partly out of the visible screen.

Additional screenshots will soon be published.

GUI: Temporary screenshots of the AmigaOS 4 GUI
The published screenshots are only temporary and they do not depict the look and feel of the final AmigaOS 4.0 GUI. The work is still in progress.

The big improvements of intuition (made beneath the surface) are not visible in these screenshots...

These screenshots only show a few elements may or may not be part of the default look and feel of AmigaOS 4. The important point about these shots is the fact that the new intuition can, in many parts, be configured according to the needs of the user.

In the end you will be the one who desides how the new AmigaOS 4 will look like...

Menu: Preview of the AmigaOS 4 Menus
This is no MagicMenu or something similar; this is intuition! The work is still in progress and new features, like changing the menu icons, will be added.

Update 25.04.2002:
Ben Hermans from Hyperion stated on ANN:
In the last 48 hours interest in the OS 4 screenshots was such that it threatens to overwhelm the server.

- 50000 visitors (!) - 9000000 page views - 2.2 million files transfered - 17.67 GB of traffic All within 48 HOURS. (ps) (Translation: sk)

An Amiga version of EyAngband 0.4.2 has been uploaded to clockwork. As soon as someone has moved from Incoming, you'll be able to access it via the following link: eyangband-042-ami.lha (658 KB)

There are bound to be plenty of graphical discrepancies, so email me with a list and I'll get them fixed for the next release.

Enjoy...
