Computer history: The first Commodore PET was sold this day 49 years ago
On The Silicon Underground, David L. Farquhar commemorates a milestone in computer history: On June 5, 1977, Commodore took the first dealer order for the PET 2001 at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show, thereby claiming the title of being the first company to sell a ready-to-use home computer. The PET originally cost $495, had 4 KB of RAM, a built-in monitor, and cassette storage. Its legacy extended to the C64 and, somewhat indirectly, to the Amiga: When Commodore secured a Microsoft license for AmigaBASIC, the company committed to crediting Microsoft on all future computers. New text adventure: The City of Gold - Part 1
Per Holmström (Grottkräl) has published "The City of Gold - Part 1", a new text-based cRPG adventure for the Amiga, which combines elements of a computer role-playing game (cRPG) with a classic text adventure. The player sets out in search of a legendary city of gold, equipped with a rough map and rumors from taverns. The game uses the DAAD-Ready engine and operates with 16 colors as well as a 64-KB database limit for the code.

The game features a full story with graphics and occasional music clips, a simple role-playing system with four skills, and save and load functionality via floppy disk. In addition to the Amiga version (ADF and HDD installation), an HTML version is also available for modern browsers. "The City of Gold - Part 1" is available on itch.io under a "Name your price" model. (nba)

Unix: Amix graphics card driver for MNT VA2000
Amix, Commodore's Amiga Unix, can now also utilize the MNT VA2000 graphics card. The project consists of two parts: the driver itself and an X11R5 server with the corresponding RTG support.

In addition to Amiga Unix version 2.1, firmware version 1.9.0 beta 2 is required for the graphics card operating in Zorro II mode. (snx)

CLI tool: verifyfd 1.0.0
verifyfd is a CLI tool for AmigaOS 2.04 and newer that tests floppy disks for defects. It writes a series of byte patterns across the entire disk surface, reads them back, and reports any sector that does not compare equal. As the entire contents of the disk will be overwritten, you should first ensure that the disk is empty or back up any data you may need later. The source code is available on Codeberg. (dr)

Do it yourself: Wi-Fi internet access via the floppy drive port
For this year’s Revision demoparty, Robert Smith had built a sound card (video) that connects to the floppy drive port. This would offer some interesting advantages over interfaces such as the parallel port. He has now applied the knowledge gained from this to his PaulaNET project (video): a Wi-Fi network adapter that connects via the floppy drive port and thus offers all the benefits of DMA transfer.

Version 1.0 of the firmware supports Pi Pico W and Pi Pico 2 W. (dr)
