VirusHelp Denmark: TCP trojan on the run
The coder of "SAFE" Zbigniew `Zeeball` Trzcionkowski has informed VirusHelp Denmark that some new TCP-trojans are on the run:

Organization: Virus Help Denmark
From: "Jan Andersen" vht-dk@post4.tele.dk
Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 08:29:40 +0200
Subject: [vht-dk] TCP Trojan's on the wild

 Hi All....

 Today we recived information from Zbigniew `Zeeball` Trzcionkowski the
 programmer of "SAFE", that there is some new TCP trojan on the loose.
 Please read the text that Zbigniew wrote:

 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------
 TCP:4097 remote shell

 and

 LIBS:rexxfifo.library size: 1136

 If You have such then please:

 - delete this fake library
 - repalce fake LoadWB with the original one
 - reboot

 The fake LoadWB don`t have $VER string, but to confuse user it have
 size and parts of file from the original LoadWB v38.9.

 The trojan is fake LoadWB that decrypts and executes rexxfifo.library
 which hides original LoadWB also remote shell is opened - TCP:4097.

 Installer: (faked YAM?)

 Please wait to xvs.library will be updated to remove this in easy way.
 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------

 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------
 TCP:2421 remote shell

 ...and maybe several infected files.

 Yes. There is another link-virus. The memory patch is detected as
 STD Vaginitis #1 and removed correctly by xvs.library.
 The infected files aren`t.
 The virus is changed only little bit and is almost same as Fungus
 or Vaginitis. Even static crypt key ($DEAD) is same.

 Installer: jizzer size: 15368

           attacks C:mount as first (adds 700 bytes with virus)

 Wait for xvs.library to be updated. To see infected files
 look into Safe/VaginitisClone dir of this Safe release!
 I wasn`t able to spread this virus to testfiles,
 so maybe this is only used to infect c:mount,
 so after analyzes of disassembly i`ll be able to say why.
 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------

 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------
 TCP: 2001 remote shell

 and

 fake process called `SetPatch`

 and

 LIBSi:rexxfunc.library size: 1136

 and

 L:wb.handler  size: 4716

 If You have such then please:

 - delete those fake library and fake handler,
 - replace LoadWB with the original one
 - reboot

 The fake LoadWB looks like original one, but it is fake.

 Installer: `miamispoof` size: 8468
            (The file is StoneCracked and then modified to
            prevent decrunching)
 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------

 So to be sure please check Your system for:

 LIBS:rexxfunc.library size: 1136
 LIBS:rexxfifo.library size: 1136
 L:wb.handler  size: 4716
 C:mount                (is bigger)

 ...and wait for new xvs.library from Alex van Niel.

 This text is public domain :-)

 ;---------------------------------------------------------------------

 Thanx to Paul for sending the files and to Zbigniew for the text.

 The warning from VHT-DK is atthaced to this email, please spread
the warning as much as you can...... ( Thanx).....

 Kind Regards.....

Amiga Show News and room plan
Last evening, the up-to-date room plan for the "World of Alternatives" was finished. Some exhibitors will probably join on short notice - updates as usual by means of the homepage. The room plan is available as A4 graphic (about 270 kB).

Visitors of the World of Alternatives that don't know yet how to get there find detailed route informations (German) here. There are routes for people traveling by car, train and plane. Even detailed bus connections are available.

On the Milan side, there are the good news that the TV and the DSP card can be presented, the 100Mbit network is working, and the new case designs have arrived in time for the show.

World Launch of the NG AMIGA SDK on the show in Neuss
Bill McEwen confirmed it in his latest e-mail: AMIGA will present the new SDK (Software Development Kit) for the NG AMIGAs for the first time worldwide on the show in Neuss coming up next weekend. Bill himself intends to bring the SDK packs for the local exhibitors. The expected price will be about 250,- DM.

As scheduled, Bill will present the new system in a conference room, report about AMIGA's plans for the future, and answer user questions.

Bill only briefly attending on Sunday:

Since Bill has a very important interview with the New York Times on Sunday, he had to cut back his attending to the show to Saturday. If he will be present at all on Sunday, it will be only briefly. People focussing on the presentations should change plans to arrive on Saturday. The SDK will of course be available on Sundays, too.

CyberGraphX 4.2 pre7 update available
On the CyberGraphX homepage, there is the latest CyberGraphX 4.2 pre7 update available. Aside from several fixes, there are now A2410 and RainbowIII drivers included. Also there is now an option to activate 56 kHz audio directly on CyberGraphX screens. For people who want to overclock their BCPPV/CVPPC to get some more performance from their card, there are now the according options too (requiring to actively cool your Permedia2 however). More about that on the CyberGraphX homepage. As usual, the CyberGraphX v4 CD is required for the update.

2. Explorer 2260 Update.
3. Maim & Mangle Update.
4. Next News Update

~~~~~~
1. General Update
May could have been better. There was numerous problems with compiler bugs
driving both chris and massi mad. The problems were traced to bugs in the
StormC V3 compiler which wasted a lot of their time chasing code bugs that
didn't exist. On top of that Rob had a harddrive failure which didn't lose
much work but the replacement drive refused to format and took over a week
to get his A4000 working again with the new drive.
2. Explorer 2260 Update.
News this month:
    - Continuted working on MiniGL engine and object editor. Started
      modifying MiniGL texture code to support more formats and
      automatic card-friendly format conversion.
    - Fixed some problems with parts of the interface code, began
      an abstraction layer to make interface component handling
      code easier to port to Linux.
    - Extended object editor loading system to support plugin-style
      load libraries.
3. Maim & Mangle Update.
News this month:
    - There has been far too many problems with bugs in StormC V3. A lot of
      development time has been lost due to these compiler problems. We are
      switching development over to the GCC compiler (we may use StormC V4
      when it is released if the bugs we've experienced have been fixed).
    - The game engine is now running under miniGL, on both 060 and PPC.
    - Work has started on conversion of our editor tools to use miniGL.
      These should be ready within 2-3 weeks.
1st July 2000
All the best,
Ed.
Winner(s) Graphical Artists competition revealed
1ST JUNE 2000--OOSTERHOUT(NB)-NL--C&C·Logo and Design today announced the winner(s) of the Graphical Artist competition.
It took more time than we eventually had in mind, but we have picked a winner from out of more than 60+ contestors all over the World. The winner has already received word from us by email and will receive his work printed and framed by the end of next week, together with a contract for future partnership.
Originally one person would be all we needed, but as seen from all the artwork we have received, it seems that most people are very good at a specific part of art, but we needed someone more versatile. That is why we will contact a few more people in the next week, to ask if they would like to work for us whenever there's need for their specific artwork (paid of course).
GNN: Amiga is Back - AmigaOS to run on any hardware
"AmigaOS Developer Kit for Amiga-, Linux- and Java-developers finished"
"In the book of Amiga Inc., the operating system AmigaOS will bring a revolution of computer usage - like the Amiga computer did over 15 years ago. Since today, at least the Amiga Software Developer Kit is finished, allowing interested developers to code software that would run on almost every platform without needing to be recompiled, thanks to AmigaOS."
New issue of Amiga World released, new executive update from McEwen
Yesterday a new issue of AMIGAs online magazine Amiga World has been released, containing especially numerous informations for AmigaNG developers. It is available in HTML format, a PDF version will follow soon.
A new Executive Update by AMIGA CEO Bill McEwen:
Amiga is Back, and will change computing forever, again.
Amiga, the creators of Multi-Media computing, have announced the release of their developer kit for Amiga, Linux, and Java developers.
June 3, 2000, Snoqualmie, WA - Amiga announces the release of the Amiga Software Developers Kit, the first new product to introduce the next generation Amiga platform.
The Amiga Software Developers Kit provides the initial tools and examples for developers to create exciting multi-media content for multiple devices and computing environments. The unique strength of the New Amiga comes from the partnership with the Tao Group in Reading England providing a foundation where developers are able to take advantage of a ubiquitous computing environment.
In 1984 Amiga established what is know today as multi-media. As a result of this, Amiga systems are used around the world by leading film studios, animators, and in mission critical applications. Using this as the foundation, the Amiga is moving forward by creating multi-media for numerous devices and computing environments in the home, in the office and beyond.
The Amiga OS is capable of being self-hosted, and sitting on top of other operating systems. A single application is capable of running on X86, Power PC, M.core, ARM, StrongArm, MIPs, SH3/4, and others. In a hosted environment the new Amiga runs on versions of Linux, Windows 95,98/NT, Windows CE, OS/9, QNX4, and others to be announced.
The new OS also embraces the Java language in a new, powerful and compliant way. The intent Java Technology Edition from Tao is world renowned for its speed and compact execution of Java applications. With the new environment, developers will be able to take advantage of both Java, and portable assembler coding.
"Today we take the first step towards the future," said Bill McEwen, President/CEO of Amiga, Inc. "The new Amiga SDK provides an environment where the best developers in the world can build exciting applications, that can transcend hardware limitations. Today Amiga developers can be joined by Linux and Java developers in an environment that provides the foundation for the delivery of future content."
"Tao has been talking for some time now about our developments to create Digital Heaven(TM) and we see Amiga and its community as a fundamental part of the new order that can make it happen and take an industry lead. With the sheer tenacity and the many qualities of McEwen and his Amiga team, the world is going to see Amiga as a Premier Brand for connected digital appliances," said Francis Charig Chairman of the Tao-Group.
For the developer, the new SDK creates a single environment that is scalable from handheld devices, such as cell phones upwards New versions of the kit later in the year will introduce many new media features. Both the current and future versions will enable compact, high performance and robust media solutions to be used across a broad range of devices using identical binaries..
The New Amiga SDK is available through local retailers for $99.00, and from the Amiga web site, Amazon.com and other sources available soon. A version via a Japanese distributor will be announced shortly.
About Amiga:
Amiga Incorporated is dedicated to creating a multi-media operating environment, enabling developers and users to experience a new level of enjoyment.
As it was in the early 80’s, Amiga is ready to introduce the next level of computing.
Linux-APUS kernel for "Mac on Linux" PPC Emulator available
At the title link, the kernel (vmlinux_mol.lha) is available for download. The kernel is required for executing the runtime patches for the PPC emulator MOL "Mac on Linux". In this kernel version 2.2.10 there is currently only support for the IDE interface compiled in. More informations about the kernel modules are available in the ".config" file in the packet vmlinux_mol.lha.
Kernel with SCSI drivers and IDE+SCSI drivers will follow within the next few days. Since I lacked the tile to recompile and reconfigure the PPC emulator, I would very much welcome if somebody would send me a binary package and a configuration file, if possible with a short manual in German. Moreover I would offer my cooperation with other developers. Questions, hints or criticism can be send to my mail address 101.109037@germanynet.de.
Welcome to your workbench's wardrobe. The new "Digital Make-Up" CD is an add-on CD with a collection of tools and utilities for customizing and making up your Amiga operating system, sorted by subject. This does not only encompass powerful tools really bringing AmigaOS up to speed and making everyday work easier - we also thought of graphics material for the grey-in-grey workbench. Many datatypes, updated libraries, modern fonts, new commands for the C directory and numerous other system extensions will bring any Amiga system on the right course. New great screensavers and many icon sets for the NewIcon system, or real new GlowIcons will make your Workbench look up-to-date. Some software never released before can be found on this CD-ROM. The new AmigaOS version 3.5 got it's own drawer, where tools for the latest version can be found. A double-click on "Quickstart" and you are right in the middle of it - the "Digital Make-Up CD"!
The "Digital Make-Up CD" is optimized for AmigaOS version 3.0 to 3.5. The major part of the software on this CD-ROM can be started directly. Requirements: Amiga with 68020 CPU, 2 MByte ChipRAM, hard drive, CD-ROM drive, AmigaOS 2.05+.
