Update to the AmiMPC In Car MP3 Player Web Site
I made some updates to my in-car MP3 player web site, with details of a new head-unit I made. It looks much better than the old one, almost 'factory' (i.e. and original part of the car). It also has a new digital potentiometer based volume control which is much better than the old one (no more skipping). (ps)

Günther Klug Frh. v. Biedermann (E-Mail)

Hint: Restoring of unreadable disks
Author: Günther Klug Frh. v. Biedermann
Preliminary remark:
I had some problems with the hd-floppy-drive in my A4000. Write errors were reported when copying/deleting on/of hd-disks. The attempts to format this disk also failed with the following message:

"DF0 unreadable" or "no valid disk in drive DF0" and so on.

I asked on the #AC-forum for help and I was said to clean the drive. I did it and the drive worked again. But I could not format the "damaged" hd-disks.

But I did not want to give up and I therefore tryed to format them with "OFS" (488 bytes/block)...

...and it worked! more ... (ps) (Translation: dr)

Marco Miljak (E-Mail)

StarGATE Newsletter 21/05/2002
Marco Miljak writes:
Dear Amiga users,

unfortunately I have bad news: The StarGATE website as well as the mail distribution list will be closed down because of three basic reasons:

  1. I don't believe in an Amiga revival anymore.
  2. Developing Amiga software needs a lot of work and time. And due to No. 1 I don't think it makes sense anymore.
  3. Because of my studies my sparetime is very rare and I don't want to spend it on Amiga anymore.
However, I want to thank everyone who encouraged and supported me in the past, in the first place Petra Struck from amiga-news.de!

The StarGATE site will remain online for about 4 or 5 months and will then be shut down. The mail addresses in the distribution list will be deleted.

Sincerely,
Marco Miljak (ps)

Unfortunately it was a long time ago, that there was a new DigiboosterPro version. In the meantime the Community is again in contact with the programmers.

In order to be able to give an overview of the current user number to the developers of DigiboosterPro, we started an inquiry. This inquiry is extremely important for the future of Digibooster Professional! Please participate, and contribute you also to the fact that the development continues!

Update:
Due to the fact that some users had questions about DBPro, here some hints:

  • Digibooster Professional is one of the best tracker programs for Amiga.
  • DBPro and an additional AddOn-CD can be purchased from ACP&TCP. ACP&TCP is the wordwide distributor.
  • For any question about DBPro please contact the Community in our own forum.

AROS: server moving on 22nd of May 2002
Because we are so popular, the guys at trustec have to move our machine to a new network with a flatrate. So expect our server to be unreachable from Wednesday 22nd of May until the IP addresses have changed everywhere.

If you need to access the machine anyway, its new IP address will be 195.143.191.17. Sorry for any inconvenience. (ps)

Amiga Future: interview with Matthias Gietzelt (author of Emperor)
"Emperor" is a kind of object orientated programming language for the Amiga that is happily available for free (giftware) on the Aminet or directly from the author. A good thing is also that the program is in continuous development by the programmer Matthias Gietzelt and a version for MorphOS is already planned, too. That's enough reason to get to know the person behind "Emperor" better and ask for an interview. The interview was done by Anton Preinsack and can be found following the title link. Amithlon: second contribution archive released
On the Amithlon site (title link) of Bernie Meyer can the following message be read:

New on 18th of May 2002: The second collection of new and enhanced patches is now here available. Please ensure that you have read the (unfortunately only in English available) README.

Download: amithlon_contrib2.lha

With these patches should the problems with Pentium4 systems and VESA framebuffer drivers as well as crashes of PGP 2.6.3 be fixed. Besides that, there's an experimental patch for ZIP and LS-120 drives. According to Bernd Meyer (Amithlon ml) should you install at least the patch for PGP (patch2_vec.o) as it may also fix other problems. The other patches are only thought for those having the particular problem. Especially the ZIP patch is only for ZIP users. (quoting Bernd: "The things it does are *not* nice.")
