Event: status report from the Amiga Meeting Nord
Slowly it's getting full ;-). We have really reached the limit of our capacity. Right now there are 30 computers installed. Our network is still running flawlessly. Hopefully there won't be any problems with the electricity ;-).
Around 17 o'clock will the premiere of the film "Dünn2" take place. After this will
Andre begin with the demo presentations. The organizers are really excited about the event being so popular. The first sales via our stock market have already been done. People are busy in handicraft work and especially in helping each other with the soldering-iron or just with good advice. Here still lives the Amiga feeling!
Under http://www.amigameeting.de/Webcam/Cam.jpg
is the web cam still running delivering a new picture every 25 seconds.

AmigaTalk V2.1 uploaded to Aminet
Version 2.1 of AmigaTalk today was uploaded to Aminet. A look at the .readme file
will show some significant additions since V2.0.
AmigaTalk V2.1 is a version of 'Little Smalltalk' (V1.0 by Tim Budd) that
has been re-written & enhanced for the Amiga line of computers.
James T. Steichen, Copyright (c) 1998-2002.
Be sure to have the sound turned on when you start the program!
(It's called AmigaTalk for a reason!)
WARNING:
~~~~~~~
There are some things that I can no longer test due to the fact
that my system has a CyberVision 64/3D graphics card & is using
the cybergraphics.library (et al). I would appreciate some
feedback about problems that you might find, since I will not
always be able to find them.
The system is currently NOT fully documented (especially IFF & BOOPSI
Classes), so expect to see some holes in the documentation.
I did NOT go back & verify that all the test files still work as
shown.
REQUIREMENTS:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
AmigaTalk uses DeckBrowser which is copyrighted (c) by InovaTronics.
I've included a copy of it with my distribution. It should be placed
in the command path where the Amiga OS can find it (example: 'C:')
68040 or better microprocessor. (68000 or 68020 available upon request).
20+ Mb of RAM (or you can edit the AmigaTalk:c/InitializeCommands
script & delete the instantiations for Intuition Tags,
DosSystem Tags & DataTypeSystem Tags & drop this
number down to 4 Mb of RAM).

Video converter update 2.2 beta
Carsten Siegner wrote:
Today I have finished a new beta of the program 'Video converter'. This version fixes a problem with Movieshop picture files. Until now ffmepg broke off when it met an unknown Jpg sub format (ffmpeg is very particular about Jpg sub formats). Now I have created a "work arround" by coding a dataype loader plugin for Video converter. This plugin can read all picture formats for which a datatype is installed, convert them to PPM and hand them over as a picture list to Video converter.
All you have to do is choosing a pictures directory in the lister as input, one for the output and then just pressing "convert".
Unfortunately it's only a beta version because it always crashes on my Amiga when using very big pictures lists and I could not fix the error entirely. This beta can be downloaded from my hompage.

First we would like to apologize that Czech Amiga.News was unavailable

Now we ask for your help!
If you find a link referring to the old address, please notify the
webmaster about the change.
To contact us, please write to newsy@czex.com
or exie@czex.com.
We made the best of the change and improved the html code, which should
result in faster display in Amiga browsers, especially on slower machines,
and light-speed downloading :-).
BTW main page of Czech Amiga.News finally validates as HTML 4.01 Transitional!
During the transition we have also fixed the
forms for submitting news, so don't be afraid
to use them. Finally we have also started updating our vast collection of

new version of operating system AmigaOS 4.0 we are going to add new services

Music/Sound Expert Sought for Crossfire II
Dreamworlds Development is looking urgently for a music/sound expert who can also
add music to animations, in order to prepare Crossfire II. The animations are in MPEG
format or if needed in single pictures on a CD. The result of adding the sound should
therefore be a timed sample in a common format
There is not going to be much monetary reward involved (because of the
overall market situation). The best case scenario would be approximately
100 Euros when the project is published. You can get further details by
expressing your interest in an email.

Magazine: AMIGAplus for October, 2002
The AMIGAplus for October 2002 with the title theme "Audio with PSA"
will be out in the middle of next week. For two reasons the release
date was postponed, and so a new appointment was made with the
publishing company.
Read about the following topics in the latest AMIGAplus:
Mega-Workshop ProStationAudio
"Audio with the Amiga rocks!" Take a calm walk with us in the world
of a professional Audio-Sequencer, ProStationAudio. Add chimes to
your life!
Thylacine - Tasmanian USB Controller
For many long years it wasn't possible to use a USB gizmo with
your Amiga. Now, within the space of a year come not one but
two new USB cards on the market. After we introduced E3B's
HIGHWAY in the May and July/August 2002 issues, and its little
sister SUBWAY for the clock port of the Amiga 1200 is still
awaited, we're making a little trip to Australia for you. That's
where the Zorro II card Thylacine has been available for a little
while.
Software Tycoon - Learn as the game progresses...
When the digital entertainment industry was still in the
shoes of a little child, the pioneers of game history could
give free rein to their innovative ideas.
After the version for the PC was released about a year ago, the
Amigans and Mac-heads [and MorphOSians -dm] can also dive
into the world of a Software Tycoon and virtually manage the
development of a game.
PC Competitor - Twice-Enjoyed Retro Game Fun
To throw away something valuable, to give something the old heave ho
without a good reason, now that's a pity. So how can the old competitions, zip sticks,
Pythons and Hyperstars be regenerated for employment in Amiga
emulators? The rescue comes from the joystick interface PC
Competitor!
And in addition to all that:
- Workshop PGP, Part 1
- FroggerNG 2 CD Tested
- A+ on Tour: photokina 2002
- What's New in Emulator Land
- How to Do Better on eBay, Part 2
- Floppy Classics on Hard-drive: WHDLoad

Amiga Society: Website Renovation in Progress
Horst Diebel writes:
»So, the rebuilding of the page is beginning now. Because a few areas of the page
didn't get many visitors, and I unfortunately don't have time to spruce them up,
they will be shut down. This step is overdue, and many people have called for it.
The "Bücher" section will stay in place as the core. "Schlachtfeld" will get its own domain
sooner or later and be distanced from the society. The other headings, whether they are little
matters from Micha or me, will also be closed. Many people thought we should do this and
we announced it long ago.
The only update really is in the Little Book of Amiga Software - a few games will be found
here, which absolutely must be taken up again.»

Soms3D Seeks New Partners
Soms has been on ice for a long time because there was a lot of programming to do. This made us really think about things. We decided
not to make a 2D adventure, but rather a realtime 3D online role playing game.
To do this we already have a 3D programmer and our first internal beta version. The capabilities of Soms3D will be made public at a later
date (assuming our new webpage is online). The adventurers will reach, more or less, a common solution. And naturally all that one may
do online must also be doable in an online game.
To reach our goals we still need a bit of help. We are looking for:
- A musician who can deliver his music in MOD or MIDI form.
- A programmer who knows his way around Online-Programming.
- Because Soms3D is based on PPC it would be better when partners have a PPC, especially when programming.
- Applications or Inquiries go to Sylvio K..

Game 'Armada' released on Aminet
Armada is a round-based game for two to five players. It is a version of a game formerly played with paper and colored pencils. To start off each player places his sea port on the map. As the game progresses players select their ships and attack opposing ships. It depends on the distance and a roll of the dice if the opposing ships are sunk.
Armada-Homepage is here, and here is the Aminet download link: Armada.lha. The author would like to hear some feedback about the game and its homepage.

AMHuhn: Programmers are overwhelmed :-)
Telemar Rosenberger, one of the developers of AMHuhn is totally overwhelmed by the positive response and submitted the following statement for release:
Hello AMIGA and AMHuhn friends,
we would like to thank you very much! We didn'd expected such a huge approval and friendly help.
Since the AMHuhn is at the net the incoming emails don't stop, there are so many mails from all over the world to respond, it's getting hard to do something else, there are positive criticisms, brief notes of thanks, suggestions for optimization or problems. Nothing negative yet :-)
Getting so much approval there is nothing left for us than continueing. I know there are problems with Picasso96 but I have to note that I can try cybergraphics only by myself. There are problems as well if the iff.library and the
picture.library are both not inside libs:.
Regarding the datatypes it is important to have the jpg and anim datatype installed, no matter if these are WOS, PPC or 68k.
With AHI sound the following is important:
At the AHIprefs you should choose 3 to 4 channels for the music unit at the mode. With a 68040 is AHI 4.18 the best, it seems to be the fastest.
Have fun and I hope that most people have no problems with running the Huhn.
With the best regards
Telemar Rosenberger

Game: New AMHuhn executable with screenmode requester
As reported yesterday,
Telemar Rosenberger and Franz 'Cj-Stroker' Schlick have developed a
"Moorhuhn" clone with the name "AMHuhn". From comments there was obvious
that some users still have problems with the game, e. g. those who use P96.
Telemar fastly has put a new executable to the site which offers a screenmode requester at the launch of the game.
To test if problems are solved with this, he asked us to offer this new executable for download. This is not the whole archive but only the main program 'AMHuhn'.

TTEngine 4.3 released
Grzegorz "Krashan" Kraszewski writes:
I have released V4.3 of TTEngine. Main new feature is font scaling and
mirroring. Below you can read full list of changes from previous V4.1:
- I've placed an open counter in the LoadedFont structure. It removes problems with many RastPorts using one font.
- TT_SetAttrs() function may be now called before TT_SetFont() and is able to create RastPort context.
- TT_SetFont() returns now BOOL value instead of VOID, because it can fail in low memory condition.
- New demo program MoreFonts shows using many fonts at once in one window.
- Affine transformation support code added. (Particular examples of affine transformations are: scaling, shearing, rotation).
- Font may now be scaled in both the axes independently with TT_ScaleX and TT_ScaleY tags. Scaling range is from 0.01 to 100 (negative too, results in mirroring of the text).
- TT_TextExtent() returned random values in the TextExtent structure, if no font has been set for the RastPort using TT_SetFont(). Now the structure is zeroed in the case.
- New demo program Scaling shows - as its name says - font scaling.
- TT_OpenFont() performed illegal READ-MODIFY-WRITE operation at address $0000003A, if opening of the font file failed. Fixed.
- Header file "ttengine.h" was modified to comply with AmigaOS headers standard.

A few days ago there was an Amiga port of the thttpd Webservers in the Aminet

The port contains PHP 4.2.3. but no support for MySQL. Therefore I took the sources of the uploader (thanks to LouiSe, homepage: http://louise.amiga.hu) and added the MySQL support in PHP.
thttpd is a very fast and efficient Web server, which reaches distinguished speed values also on a relatively slow 68k-Amiga.
Furthermore I compiled the newest version (2.01-10) of the log-file analyzer Webalizer (homepage: www.webalizer.com) for Amiga OS. Both programs need the ixemul LIBRARY.

Tool: SRename Version 3.5.0 beta 5
Constantinos Nicolakakis published a new beta version of the tool 'SRename'.

In version 3.5.0 beta 5 the following program sections and bugs were fixed:
- Rewritten many code parts.

- Changed the way the "INSERT" action works when appending characters. For appending purposes the user should now use the new "APPEND" secondary argument.
- Improved the way that the number positioning is handled when modifying the basename of a filename sequence.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed bug with not appending characters at the end of a segment using INSERT.
- Fixed "Destination path not found" bug when using ":" in conversion.
- Fixed problem of reading only up to 120 characters of each CLI supplied path/filepattern.
- Fixed one Enforcer hit.

Microcode Solutions: Power Macintosh(tm) Emulation News (Update)
Power Macintosh(tm) Emulation News!
»Microcode Solutions will be releasing an iMac(tm)
based emulation in both hardware (G3, G4, and dual G4 PCI boards) and
software versions in the near future. Stay tuned for details!«
Update 15.10.2002:
Microcode Solutions has received what we believe will be the final hardware revision of the PCI based PowerPC card being manufactured by a well known PowerPC accelerator company.
The current board is a high speed G3 board. Other models are being prototyped right now, and these are G4 and dual processor configurations.
Microcode Solutions has always been the leader in Macintosh emulation technology, developing the first PowerPC emulation for a non-Macintosh platform. We will continue this tradition by releasing the first Power Macintosh emulation for the PC.
Besides having a PCI based hardware solution, Microcode Solutions will also be releasing a completely software based emulation to the public at an amazingly low price (under $50).
We know that people have waited an extremely long time for Microcode Solutions to release a new product, and we appreciate your patience. Just like our successful product "FUSION-PC", we feel we should wait to release the product until it is perfected. We are nearing that stage right now. (ps)

The PPC binaries run with the powerpc.library.
Apart from the compiler, 'phxass' and 'phxlnk' are required for creating 68k
code, and 'pasm' and 'vlink' for creating PPC code.
These programs can be found on Frank Wille's

- New: Menu (database, all tests separately, about, etc.)
- Change: Small cosmetic changes.
The benchmark runs from AmigaOS 3.0 (AmigaOS 2.0 has not been tested), CPU 68k,
PPC (or PC and UAE or Amithlon), 0.2 MB RAM and identify.library (included).

Linux/APUS: Kernel V2.4.18 with CyberstormPPC UW-SCSI support
The Linux/APUS kernel is available in version 2.4.18-2 with CyberstormPPC
UW-SCSI support. The following changes have been made, compared to the previous
version:
- Change: The CyberstormPPC UW-SCSI driver should now work. Please mind
that it still has more of an experimental character - You have been warned.
- Change: Deactivated PCI, as this apparently does more bad than good at
the moment.
Download is possible on Sourceforge through the title link.

GUI-Builder: Emperor V4.5 (Reaction)
Matthias Gietelt has released version 4.5 of the GUI builder 'Emperor'.
'Emperor' is not just a GUI builder, but a complete programming interface for
easy creation of programs, which make use of Reaction and GadTools.
Emperor is targeted at all programmers and non-programmers (i.e. at Amiga users
in general).
Version 4.5 features in short:
- Implemented Drag'n'Drop of objects.
- Full StormC V4 support.
- Added category ToolTypes.
- Implemented generation of install scripts.
- Main window displayable in smaller mode.
- Fixed problems with array window.
- All lists keyboard controllable.
- Added extended setup options.
- Message handling as hierarchical list.
- Optional custom screen for Emperor.
- Fixed problems with preview window.
- Optimized project open routines.
- Fixed error in generated source text.
- Reworked progress indicators.
- Optimized some macro functions.
- Optimized generated source text.
- Icons can be created for all files.
- Full AmigaOS3.9 support.
- Extended functions in attribute window.
- Improved programming help.
- New text editor functions.
- New project check routine.
- Improved online help.
- Extended GadgetHelp.
- Optimized initialize functions.
- Fixed smaller bugs.
Description:
'Emperor' is mainly to free the programmer of having to deal with complicated
system structures. I.e.: Programming by simply clicking. Anyone who knows the
Amiga a little is able to create programs with its help. The programming help
offers a choice of macro functions which take over control and handling of
partly rather complex operations. The two functions Get/SetGadgetAttr() should
be especially highlighted. Merely the gadget to be queried has to be specified.
Specifics like window and query property are unnecessary as most of the time
only one particular tag has to be queried (set) (example: FUELGAUGE_Level,
GA_Selected).
The integrated text editor provides the project's 'individualization' - it is
here that the actual personal source text within own or generated functions is
being written.
Message handling describes possible intervention variants into the standardised
program sequence. A function can for example be called on 'Startup' or
'Shutdown'. Or when windows open or gadgets are selected.
Furthermore it is possible to write small tools withing a couple of minutes,
or to create the graphical user interface for complex applications.
A couple of small sample projects are included with the program.
The attribute windows are the most important means when creating own projects.
Each gadget which lies within these attribute windows has a small help which is
displayed in the main window (this applies to all windows in Emperor). It
allows specific parameterisation of the single objects. A little delicacy can
be found on the requesters page. In this attribute window it is possible to
have Emperor specific ReAction based requesters created. For this you switch to
'Reaction' within the attribute window and activate 'ReactionRequest'. Now
there are many settings available to adjust the requesters to your preferred
taste and circumvent the system requesters (as those don't necessarily conform
to the design of contemporary programs, and not everyone uses requester patches
such as ReqAttack).
Another example are the predefined menus, which can added to the project with a
single click. If you use these predefined menu macros, you not only get the
menu itself, but also the complete translations in all 18 supported languages.
Finally I'd like to point out this version's most important feature: Popup
menus, which are based on ReAction based windows can also be created. These
popup menus are objects which ReAction doesn't explicitly support as a rule -
with Emperor these become reality.
Also a great help are the so-called ICMaps which are supported since AmigaOS
3.5: they allow to have gadgets communicate with one another uni- or
bidirectionally (own creation), without having to type a single line of code.
This is especially interesting for gadgets with similar or mutually exclusive
functions.
Another highlight is the definable GadgetHelp output. It allows to select a
gadget as output gadget. The respective GadgetHelp (on the attribute window's
'Misc' page) is transferred into this gadget. Thus it should be a string
gadget.
There is an immediate visualisation for each GUI element, which facilitates a
preview without compiling the project, e.g. for windows, requesters, ASL
requesters, screens, popup menus and menus.

AmigaFlame: Why Amiga need the PDA developer community
Philip has published an article with the heading
'Special Report: Why
Amiga need the PDA developer community and how can they be won over?' on
Amiga Flame.
In this he deals with the issue of PDA games and AmigaDE for the second time.
The article contains (a.o.t.) Simon Jacobs' (Xen Games) point of view about
AmigaDE, a list of AmigaDE's announced (Ami3D) and partly existing (TinyGL)
capabilities with emphasis on games development, and deals with the question of
how Amiga as well as PDA games developers, who often have to live with low
sales figures because of the different PDA systems, might profit from one
another.
Additionally the Future AmigaDE Games List
has been updated. This list contains released and announced AmigaDE games titles.

On 12th October 2002, Georg Hörmann has released version 0.9c of the anti virus
program 'VirusZ III'. The following changes have been implemented since the
previous version:
- New: Added new snapshots. These were sent in by Harry Sintonen, Gunnar
Andersson, Dieter Klisch, Armin Pigulla, Dirk Stöcker, Marko Raina, Maurizio
and AmiS.
- New: Support for NOUNCRUNCHSIZE archive for file check.
The length of the target file is now calculated before unpacking.
- New: Support for encrypted archives for file check.
VirusZ asks the password once and uses this for the whole archive. Only if the
password is incorrect it is asked for again.
- New: Added tc_Switch, tc_Launch and pr_PktWait fields to snapshot function
after AmiS reported software which uses these fields.
VirusZ III runs from AmigaOS 2.04. Additionally required libraries are not
contained in the archive anymore. They can (e.g.) be acquired from the Aminet
or through the title link:
