Statement of Genesi concerning trouble of delivery
On MorphOS-News.de Genesi has given its opinion on the current trouble of delivery of
the Pegasos. It is said that Genesi is waiting for more Articia-chips of Mai. Until Genesi
will get and afterwards test it a delivery of the present chip version is expected which
works without any errors thanks to the April chips in the Pegasos.
Besides this Genesi tests an alternative but something more expensive chip so in future
it may be possible to work together with a different seller.
At the end of 2003 MorphOS may also be published for Macintosh computers but probably
only as an executing second unit for applications which should be also offered for the
Mac. In this connection it is asked if there is anybody who is interested in porting
"wxwindows" on MorphOS.

End of GRex petition
M. Lück wrote:
Today is the end of the GRex-petition. Until today 296 users have subscribed.
TriMa and me want to thank you for your support. Unfortunately this petition has failed.
I want to explain in the following lines why it is so.
Two weeks after the start of the petition I have sent the first list with all signatures
(without email addresses) to DCE per email. I got an answer of DCE at once. DCE wrote
that they would be glad about a support of OS4 and that they are interested in the current
discussion.
We got the information of Steffen Häuser that the cybpci.library written by Ralph 'Laire' Schmidt
will not work in the 68k emulation because of the 68k MMU setup. So the petition still
became more important because presently GRex users have no chance of getting AmigaOS 4.0
started.
We got all information per email which Hyperion needs to support the GRex. Four addresses
are needed:
- The base of GRex I/O address
- The interrupt acknowledge address
- The base address of config space mappings or
- the PCI-config and PCI-data address
No circuit diagramm, hardware or software documents are needed. These information I
sent DCE per email. I have not got any response until today.
Then we got the information that bplan has the hardware rights. This means DCE has only
a licence for the GRex. If this is true or not we do not know. One week ago I contacted
Mr. Carda per email for getting clearness. But I also have not got any response until now.
That is a pity.
Now we hope that we can attract attention by posting this article.
Thank you very much again to all participants...
The attempt of moving something forward means so much to us - also if it may fail.

First working beta of Powerkonverter
Today I have published a working version of my program called "Powerkonverter".
Currently it supports all important basic functions of ffmpeg and additionally the
"Motion Estimation" preference. Videos can be splitted or changed. Besides this all
formats are supported which has been newly added.
But in this version pictures series will not be recognized. This will be the next step.
Installation:
Unpack the archive, copy the corresponding libs to your Workbench/libs directory.
For starting the program you need to be installed the PNG datatype.
ffmpeg must be in the system path (c:, s: or something like that). I have copied ffmpeg
to c:.
I have programmed a PNG-GUI because then the program itself has only the half size compared
with an IFF version. Additionally PNG datatypes are also available in PPC versions which
accelerates the program.
Shortcuts:
ESC: Quitting the program
Return: Starting ffmpeg
Control + C: Aborting ffmpeg
Space: Stopping the console output of ffmpeg
Backspace: Continuing console output of ffmpeg
I have not implemented a seperate button for starting ffmpeg because it is simply unpractical.
You can confirm the shortcuts on each place in the GUI like e.g. the Return key.
If you want to test a newly preferenced figure only push the Return key for starting ffmpeg
with the new figure.
If you want to program yourself new figures in the cycle buttons it is quite simple.
The program directory contains several text files ".txt". These ones you can rewrite
up to a certain level. The only thing which can be not changed is the amount of the
entries. In the same way it works with the format lister. You can write your own formats
if they are not there yet.
Later I will also add the automatic picture identification and the VideoCD option.

News from Eyetech: State of AmigaOneXE
After moving the website of Eyetech onto another server the site is now up to date.
Beside some changes in prices for the Eyetech complete systems a change for the
AmigaOne interested persons is interesting: The AmigaOneXE-G3 will be delivered with
a G3 CPU (750FX) with 800 MHz instead of the announced 700 MHz.
On the AmigaOne mailing list Alan Redhouse is talking about the latest
stateof the
delivery of the AmigaOneXE:
It seems the first 25 boards are delivered to Eyetech and are taken under another
quality control by 25 chosen testers. The other motherboards will be delivered to
Eyetech in the next week. Because of the high inquiry and the fact of the quality
check by Eyetech the delivery will take a longer time than expected so the boards
will be delivered to dealers and customers in February.

Today grand opening of The Butterfly Vale
Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages! The Butterfly Vale has opened its gates for visitors.
The Vale is your future source for MorphOS ports and high-quality own MorphOS developments.
As for your journey to us, please recall that the Vale is located in a remote place where the
air is still fresh and clean. We would like to keep it that way and ask you to if possible leave
your power-consuming Pentium switched off and use alternate means of transportation. We recommend
coming in by flying horse.
Here's a short overview of our main attractions. While you browse our various areas, you may
notice that we have some smaller archives up that are not mentioned here.
cdda.library 1.0
cdda.library is a MorphOS library that provides CD digital audio services to A-Box programs.
Developers benefit from the library's high-level functions such as drive search
by certain criteria, looped playing of CD sections, event callbacks and author/track title
information where available.
Users benefit from the library's drive autorecognition by not having to enter or even recall
any device/unit values in most cases - thanks to cdda.library's powerful functions, ScummVM
MorphOS is the only port that does not need the user to specify a CD drive.
ScummVM 0.3.0b + new CVS
The full ScummVM 0.3.0b MorphOS distribution is now online. It includes an updated PDF manual,
and the icons have been converted to Ambient format. Also, there are now new icons for the Simon
the Sorcerer games.
A new CVS snapshot has been uploaded as well, this one is the first public MorphOS snapshot
with experimental, preliminary support for "THE CURSE OF MONKEY ISLAND", as well as support
for the Mac/Amiga versions of Simon the Sorcerer 2 and early support for the CD32 version of
Simon the Sorcerer.
Exult 1.0
Exult is a rewrite of the Ultima 7 engine for modern operating systems. It allows you to
play one of the best and most detailed parts of Origin's famous Ultima series. Exult has
recently turned to version 1.0 which means that both parts of Ultima 7, "The Black Gate"
and "The Silver Seed" along with their add-ons "The Black Sword" and "Forge of Virtue"
are fully supported now. The original data files are required to play.
FreeSCI 0.3.4
The MorphOS port of FreeSCI had been announced three days ago on the FreeSCI homepage
(http://freesci.linuxgames.com). Today saw the official release of FreeSCI 0.3.4, and
the MorphOS version is available for download from the Vale on the same day! FreeSCI is
an attempt to create a portable interpreter for games written for Sierra On-Line's SCI system.
Playable games include King's Quest IV, Space Quest 3, Leisure Suit Larry 2 & 3, The Colonel's
Bequest, and several others. 32 bit Ambient icons for nine games known to be completable
are included in the archive.
Frotz
Frotz is an interpreter for the adventure games produced by Infocom, and fan works created
with Graham Nelson's Inform compiler.
Frotz MorphOS Release 1 is based on David Kinder's Amiga port, Release 14 (the current Amiga
version is release 16). Major changes to the Amiga version (14) are:
- Updated port to Frotz 2.43 code base
- Made Frotz fully graphics cards compliant
- Rewrote GUI code from BGUI to MUI
- Rewrote audio.device code to AHI
- Aspect correction for V6 graphics
- Fixed lots of preferences issues
Inform
Graham Nelson's Inform allows you to write your own games to run on Infocom interpreters.
In addition to the binary, I've provided an archive with most material from Glenn Hutchings'
all-in-one Inform package. It is meant for new users who want to start quickly with Inform.
It includes the library, some useful 3rd party contributions, examples and a tutorial, all
ready to use.
Magnetic
Magnetic is an interpreter for the adventure games once produced by the British company Magnetic
Scrolls. It is based on David Kinder's Amiga port. Major changes from the Amiga version are:
- Rewrote Copper code to proper graphics cards compliant code
- Implemented title splash screen
- Implemented animations for Magnetic Windows games
- Implemented online hints for Magnetic Windows games
The Butterfly Vale is looking forward to your visit. Also keep in mind that this is
just the beginning ... (ps)

Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper: Another SID-driver for the Catweasel
The second Amiga-based SID-driver is a playsid.library that accesses the SID of the Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper directly. At the moment this only works on Catweasel controllers that are plugged in a Zorro slot of an Amiga, support for Clockport-connected controllers will be added shortly. Playsid plays back a lot of tunes that are known from C64-games and demos. The probably most famous collection of SID music is the High Voltage Sid collection that contains more than 20000 songs.
Special thanks goes to the brothers Rakesh und Sharwin Raghoebardayal who have adapted the library to the Catweasel in their spare time, and released it as freeware.

Context menu: ContextSAS Version 1.65
The program ContextSAS by Andre Dörffler enables you to provide and to use

is supported. By using a few additional tools one can thereby iconify even
Workbench windows and create links.
With the new version 1.65 newdrawer_gui

This time with GUI. This version offers the possibility of defining
a dividing line for each menu entry and the activation by the middle
or left mouse button is now functioning correctly. In the next update a
hierarchical menu definition will be added, so stay tuned...

New Amiga-Product: Pure Basic
Xing Interactive are very proud to announce the release of the powerful and versatile programming language "Pure Basic". The product will be released in the second week of February 2003 and is available to consumers at the very competitive price of 29,95 Euro in DVD case packaging.
Pure Basic is more advanced and flexible then any of the other Basic programming languages currently on the market and it comes at a fraction of the price. The beauty of this product is the versatility though as you can develop your own games and applications on PC Windows, Linux or even AmigaOS! Speed is another unique selling point. Where other Basic programming languages crawl at a slow pace due to complex instruction translations Pure Basic shines by even outperforming C++ written code. If you ever wanted to program your own commercial quality games or applications in an easy to learn and even more easy to use language then this is your chance! (ps)

ADA team with inquiry over the Soms3D-Engine
Sylvio K., director/conductor of the Anime development for Amiga team,
decided to start an inquiry concerning the Soms3D-Engine due to the many e-mails with suggestions he got.
Originally it was intended to make Soms an on-line adventure but due to
the suggestions in various mails something else could become of it. Everyone who would like to participate in the inquiry, please
answer the following questions by sending an e-mail with the reference "Soms3D". These are the questions:
What do you think? What shall become of the Soms3D engine?
Currently the favorites are a 'Silent Hill' similar horror game and a 'GTA3'-Clone.

Set-top boxes and more: New statement by Genesi
In a new statement (title link) Raquel Velasco und Bill Buck of Genesi have
a.o. announced a contract for Pegasos and MorphOS based set-top boxes, which
provides for the cash flow necessary for the other projects.
Shows are expensive. 100,000 Dollars have been invested in a short
period of time just for the CES in Las Vegas and the ARC in Aachen and
the respective attention grabbing (not to forget the cost for the other public presentations and events).
Furthermore it contains another hint at having applied legal measures to get
AmigaOS on the Pegasos.
According to the announcement, the Pegasos is shipped with MorphOS, DebianPPC,
Mac-on-Linux and a bundle of games and applications. Ports of OpenBSD and
Gentoo are said to be in the works and available before the CeBIT. Furthermore
there are talks about ports of BeOS, OpenBeOS, NetBSD, Zeta and NewOS. SuSE and
Mandrake are already running on the Pegasos.
