Press release Chicago, Illinois – March 23rd, 2007 -- Visual FX company DiscreetFX LLC Inc., offers $1000 to the developer or team that can create a three level demo of a platform game starring Hottie, in the classic gaming style of Arabian Nights, Shadow of the Beast, Nicky Boom, Zool, etc.
"I have noticed game development for Amiga has seemed to stagnant and want to help change that, stated DiscreetFX's CEO. So begins a fun contest to sharpen your Amiga game creation coding skills. The three level demo you create will need to run on classic Amiga's and WinUAE/E-UAE/PSPUAE. We don't care so much if it is AGA or Amiga 500 specific. Runner up prizes will also be offered and the winner will get a chance to complete the game and release it on AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS, and other gaming systems.
More information will be available at the title link in the next week. For more information about this contest please contact DiscreetFX.

IOSPIRIT GmbH (ANF)
|
IOSPIRIT GmbH quits the Amiga market
Press release IOSPIRIT GmbH ends its Amiga business on the 1st of April 2007.
In the future, IOSPIRIT GmbH will be focusing solely on its Mac®
products. In order to better serve the needs of that market and to be
able to process incoming orders faster and more efficiently, a
reimplementation of the shop system is currently being worked on.
The reasons for the decision to no longer operate in the Amiga market
are as follows:
- We want to fully commit to developing Mac® products in the future
- The big additional overhead that would be necessary to integrate (permanent) support for download and package versions of Amiga software into the new concept and the drawbacks that would come with this for the majority of our customers - which today are Mac® users
- The decreasing demand for Amiga products and the the situation of the Amiga market in general
IOSPIRIT's own Amiga titles will no longer be available beyond April,
1st, 2007 - except of course for remaining stock at dealers. The
future distribution as well as development and support of IBrowse will
be handled directly by the IBrowse development team. You can find
their website at ibrowse-dev.net.
Many thanks go to
- All of our customers and users for being loyal for so many years, which has made the development of our Amiga titles possible in the first place;
- All developer and scene buddies for the many interesting, reflective, funny, educational, helpful and amicable moments, anecdotes and experiences;
- All those, who have always been there to help with mental and moral support and an independant, second opinion.
We wish all of you all the best for the future and would be happy to
see you again over in the Mac® market. If you are interested in what
we are currently working on, you can find our Mac® products at
iospirit.com.
Sincerly,
Felix Schwarz (snx)

Updates for Hollywood 2.5 and Hollywood Designer 2.0
Two new updates for users of Hollywood 2.5 and Hollywood Designer 2.0 are now available in the restricted area for customers on the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
With these two updates it is now possible to use different charsets than ISO 8859-1 with Hollywood as well. This allows you for example to use Eastern European charsets with Hollywood. Furthermore, some bugs have been fixed and it is now possible to quit Hollywood without problems from a CLI using CTRL-C.
These two updates are only for users of the download versions of Hollywood 2.5 and Hollywood Designer 2.0. The versions that come on CD already contain the latest versions of Hollywood 2.5 and Hollywood Designer 2.0. All registered customers can now log onto the Airsoft Softwair homepage with their username and password and download the new versions.
Thanks go to Paul Bloedel, Lazar Zoltan, Rafal Chyla, Marco Fogli and Martin Cornelius for the bug reports. (snx)

Magazin: Retro #3 published
Since this week the third release of the Retro magazine is available in stores. An item overview is given under the title link. The official press release is listed below:
About Hackers and Heroes
The fascination of computers and the number of those who are using them full of enthusiasm was increasing within the seventies. Small groups came up which were even occupied with the world of computers aside the universities. Every new piece of software was examined, analysed and passed on.
Bill Gate's idea of a software market came to the idealistic hacker's world like a bombshell. It was the opinion that every programmer acquired his knowledge from others and only a free exchange could guarantee a further development.
Bill Gates neither wanted to share his knowledge with others nor he wasn't prepared to allow that his software should be freely copied and changed by others. Being upset, finally he wrote a so called "open letter" to the Homebrew computer club. In it he claimed the ones as thieves who were using and copying his software without any payment.
Retro #3 shows Bill Gate's original letter from the year 1976 and gives impressions from hackers' ethics and crackers' philosophy. Furthermore there are scenes of Wau Holland, being figured as a co founder of the Chaos computer club.
Additional highlights in Retro #3 are a special about soccer manager games and the history of the Amstrad/Schneider CPC.
About Retro:
Exciting, funny and a special sense for retro trends - RETRO
offers everything from the cosmos of digital lifestyle. The magazine reports from video games, hard- and software for retro fans, but even introduces people and stories in the background. With a regular view of events all over the world RETRO informs you of all aspects from the digital retro culture. Even a cd-rom is attached to every issue - full of videos, sounds and games from the retro scene.
RETRO #3 consists of 96 pages and is in stores for 9,95 Euro since March 20, 2007. A cd-rom with 25 video games is part of this issue. (snx) (Translation: tz)

AmigaOS 4: Software sampler Phonolith 0.5
Phonolith is a software instrument for AmigaOS 4 which plays back sampled waveforms. It is usable with Horny and other CAMD-based sequencers or just with a connected MIDI keyboard as well.
New in this version is the "Mixdown" function, with which one's own songs can be saved as AIFF files. But this only works with a keyfile. Since such are not sold yet before version 1.0, one can obtain them only through registering the Horny MIDI sequencer.
Features of version 0.5:
- downmixing to AIFF file (not for lite version)
- receives MIDI notes through camd.library
- mixer unit with volume controls and peak meters
- 16 different instruments at once
- ADSR amp envelope for each instrument
- unlimited number of samples for each instrument, for key and velocity ranges
- supports AIFF (16 bit) sample format
- imports Logic EXS24 instruments (only from Macintosh (PPC?))
- ReAction GUI
Planned features of version 1.0:
- mixer unit with panning controls
- WAVE sample support
- better EXS24 import (Intel format...)
- connection to Horny for automatic project loading
- control mixer with MIDI commands
- non-linear volume levels and ADSR-release
Further information on Phonolith can be found under the title link. (cg) (Translation: cad)
