MorphOS: SearchStar 0.78
Tom 'Amigaharry' Duin writes about version 0.78 of his search program: "Reading the Amiga Future 65 review about my SearchStar 0.76, the review stated that not all files were found by searching. I was going into the sources and found the bug; a near double match was not detected. For instance, search for TEST, then TTEST, TETEST and TESTEST was not found.
Searching for files, through files and file comments is bugfixed. However, the deletion and renaming of files are improved but not entirely bugfixed. As I am going to holiday, it will take a while to solve the last two bugs." (snx)

HTMLview.mcc released under LGPL
Press release The HTMLview.mcc MUI class authors are proud to announce that finally after 10 years of successful development on the AmigaOS platform, the full sources of the HTMLview.mcc MUI custom class are now released under the LGPL license.
In 2000 the sources were kind of lost, because the original author (Allan Odgaard) faced a harddisk crash. However, in early 2005 another try was started to recover the sources from that particular harddisk and luckily the full sources were salvaged from it. Therefore the sources are now released under the LGPL Open source license to a) attract more developers to it and b) to have "the internet" as the future backup server for it.
The sources are now hosted on a sourceforge.net SVN and every interested developer is invited to contribute to the development of the HTMLview.mcc class, especially for the upcoming efforts in AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS development. (snx)

AROS for AmigaOS: AfA 3.95
Version 3.95 of AROS for AmigaOS (AfA), a port of individual AROS components, now installs the Iconlib from AROS as well, to be able to display dual PNG icons in 32 bit from AmigaOS 4 on the Workbench and in Directory Opus Magellan.
New here compared to the final beta version is that in AFA_Prefs, the transparency of default icons as well as the transparency of icons when dragging can be adjusted.
Other improvements:
The FAQ was expanded with troubleshooting for the new Iconlib and CyberGraphX, and a Readme file for the new Iconlib was written.
Problems with the Exe datatype as well as the MacSnd datatype and CopyIcons were solved.
Under Picasso 96 and CyberGraphX 2, dragging icons in 32 bit now works under Directory Opus Magellan and Workbench as well. However, under CyberGraphX 3 and 4, only the icon scaled down to four colors is displayed.
In the author's opinion, the latter two versions of CyberGraphX seem to have the problem which cannot be remedied by the Supergels patch. Namely, it is important that the old icon bitmap data was not modified by any patch, because otherwise, the icon recognition in BltMaskBitmap-Rastport does not work, so that no 32 bit alpha image can be blitted, reportedly. CD-Writer software: MakeCD available for free
The CD-Writer software MakeCD, written by Patrick Ohly and Angela Schmidt, which has been shareware before, is now available for free.
The authors write: "MakeCD used to be shareware and some shops sold boxed versions with licenses. This worked well in the past and we are thankful to everyone who found MakeCD worth paying for. However, MakeCD sales have long ago stopped being a relevant source of income for us. At the same time it has become harder and harder for interested users to get hold of a MakeCD license as more and more Amiga shops ceased business.
Therefore we decided to draw a line and stop selling MakeCD altogether: now it is available for free. You still need a valid license key for the existing binaries, which can be obtained at the title link.
Thanks again to all users and distributors who paid for MakeCD licenses, your support has been priceless. I hope you understand that making MakeCD available for free is necessary to ensure that users who want to use it can do so. The status of MakeCD does not change because of it: it is considered stable. We will ensure that it keeps working on Amiga compatible systems." (snx)

Babylon 5: Production observation of "The Lost Tales" (English)
On its website CGSociety.org the Society of Digital Artists observes the production of "Lost Tales" episodes of Babylon 5 which are to be published on DVD and which are about the characters John Sheridan, Elizabeth Lochley and Galen.
On page 2 the father of the serie called Joseph Michael Straczynski remembers the use of an Amiga at the beginning of the serie: "The initial render farm consisted of several Amiga?s linked together with wires that ran through the apartment of the guy who initially did the FX.
The wires also ran through his rabbit cages. Every so often, in the middle of a render, a rabbit would chew through a wire. They would call me to tell me they had a rabbit crash. And now here we are today."

individual Computers at CeBIT / Clone-A presentation on March 31st
Press release Individual Computers is present at the world's biggest computer fair CeBIT twice this year: Viprinet GmbH show the Multichannel VPN Router. Individual Computers was significantly involved in the development of the router, which lets you bundle up to six physical broadband lines into a single virtual dedicated line. This increases bandwidth, but also increases reliability of your internet connection up to 99.99% annual mean availability - better and cheaper than any regular dedicated line could offer. Viprinet has booth number E48 in hall 14.
We're especially happy to support the new company Commodore with rare units from our retro-computer collection. This includes a PET2001 which is 30 years old this year. Commodore International is at booth number B34 in hall 19.
Our project "Clone-A" will be demonstrated on saturday march 31st, 2007 in Aachen, Germany. We will show the prototype of our Amiga-chipset clone at Schloß Rahe Business Center from 12:00 to 4:00pm. Clone-A will ultimately be put into a single low-cost chip, which can be used in a laptop or desktop computer, but also in smaller mobile units and toys. The chip contains the processor, accelerated graphics and sound. To operate the chip, only a small amount of memory is needed. There's a huge number of free and commercial programs and about 5000 games for the Amiga platform. The games can compete with today's consoles in multimedia presentation and gaming fun.
After a demonstration that we have prepared (about 30 minutes), visitors will have the chance to put Clone-A to the test: We're inviting visitors to bring especially critical software, which will demonstrate the compatibility of Clone-A to a real Amiga. Should you bring a program (floppy disk) that works better on an Amiga 500 with 1MB of chipmem and a 68000 processor at 7 MHz, we will honour your efforts with a voucher for 100 Euro for products out of our portfolio.
There is no entrance fee for Schloß Rahe Business Center, and there's free parking for visitors. (snx)
