IRC client: Wookiechat 2.6 Beta 5
James Carroll provides a new beta version of his MUI based IRC client Wookiechat for AmigaOS 3/4. Changes in beta 5:
  • BETA 1: Made sure all commands in "Connect Scripts" operate in the right tab when connecting to a few servers simultaneously
  • BETA 1: Tab memory and objects used to be freed after closing WookieChat, but now I'm starting to clean up memory as soon as a tab is closed. Very handy on machines with small amounts of RAM (like my 6mb A1200!)
  • BETA 1: If Wookie is unable to automatically obtain your own address for use in establishing DCC connections, you can now manually specify an address yourself in the prefs. (Main Settings > DCC)
  • BETA 2: Slight modification: "Connect scripts" are executed in the root tab
  • BETA 2: When you connect, the "001" server message is displayed in full and in the root tab. This message contains your hostname, or what the IRC server thinks is your hostname
  • BETA 2: Added sanity checks to the gethostbyname() calls, so that if your address value is invalid for some reason, it wont crash
  • BETA 2: Rejiggered the "close tab" code. It was crashing when closing multiple channels in a particular sequence
  • BETA 3: Attempted to fix crashes when doing "cursor up/down" quickly in tabs
  • BETA 4: New tab system. Optionally, you can display tab names in a listview under the nicklist, instead of using buttons along the bottom of the window. This system is ideal for users with lots of tabs open. Toggle this setting at "Main Settings > General"
  • BETA 4: All info from /whois replies are displayed in the right colour and with «Whois» at the start now
  • BETA 4: Wallop messages, usually from server admins talking to each other, are now displayed correctly
  • BETA 4: You can comment out lines in your Connect Scripts with ; at the beginning of each line
  • BETA 4: Bugfix: No longer crashes if you had more than 40 ignores in your list
  • BETA 5: The button-style tabs/listview-style tabs toggling wasnt working properly I'm very sorry for this.. it seems to be working well now

  • Made adjustments to calculations for WAV file saving, so hopefully the larger WAV's will load better in HDREC, etc.

  • Made a number of improvements for adding new bars
  • RockBEAT is now freeware! E-mail me if you want a free personalised keyfile with your name in it

Hardware encyclopedia: BBoAH with new license
Mario Misic writes:  After the official hand over of the BBoAH from Ian Chapman to Mario Misic together with the AmigaFuture, Mario Misic decided to put the entire data of the "Big Book of Amiga Hardware" under the license of the "Creative Commons License" immediately and under exclusion of any commercial usage.

This license has been chosen to exclude any commercial usage of the BBoAH material by third parties and to account for the participation of volunteers and to ensure the continuation of the BBoAH's in its known kind.

The Amiga Future as well as ACP&TCP are currently holding the only written permission to license the BBoAH content commercially. For non commercial usage the entire BBoH data material is available according to the chosen CC licenseg which is available at the BBoAH website in 34 different translations.

All breaches of the CC license will be avenged when the required souce citation is not given properly now, this is especially important for ebay auctions. The change of the license mas made only to ensure the continuation of the "Big Book of Amiga Hardware" in its known kind.

We thank all users for the attention and understanding and are looking forward to a promising BBoH future. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Chiptune-Tracker: Hively-Tracker 1.3 for AmigaOS 3/4
HivelyTracker is a tracker based on AHX-format (screenshot). In the 90ies AHX was developed to write music titles which are similar to the typical chip sound of SID (sound-chip of the C64) ähneln. Changes since version 1.3:
  • Position editor now has indicators so its clear to which channel each column relates (suggested by syphus)
  • If you used ring modulation effects in the right hand parameter list of an instrument, but not the left, it would try and save it as an AHX instrument instead of an HVL instrument. Fixed. (thanks to syphus)
  • Added Zap Song/Instrument/Position options (suggested by m0d)
  • Added play time indicator (suggested by someone, sorry forgot who)
  • You can now copy and paste arbitary regions in the position editor. (suggested by a couple of people, and I always intended to do it anyway :)
  • "prefs_bg" and "Settings" in skins are now "prefs_os4" and "Settings_os4" respectively so that the same skin can be used for both the OS4 and OS3.x versions
  • Added some bounds checking to the replayer to avoid weird crashes
  • Fixed a couple of small bugs in the replayer (thanks to pieknyman)
  • When changing the position during playback, the current position plays through to the end before jumping to your selected position (suggested by syphus)
  • Some status information which should have been local to each tab was global. Oops. Fixed now
  • Added Ctrl+Tab to jump to the same column in the next channel, and Shift+Ctrl+Tab to jump to the same column in the previous channel. (suggested by syphus)
  • Added Alt+A to mute all but the current channel (suggested by syphus)
  • Added Alt+Q to mute all channels
  • Right clicking on "New Tab" now makes an identical clone of the current tab
  • Added speed multiplier gadget. This is a feature of both AHX and HVL tunes that was always implimented, but there was no way to actually set it in hivelytracker until now (oops :)
  • Pressing the right mousebutton in the instruments list of the instruments editor will copy the current instrument to the slot where you clicked
  • Holding control and pressing the right mousebutton on a slot in the instrument list in the instrument editor will zap that instrument
  • Changed the default gain values when loading in AHX modules and using stereo mixing. The values before were calculated by running lots of tunes through the Autogain calculations and using the lowest values that came out. Well, it was too high, so now I actually calculated them using actual maths! (thanks again to pieknyman for finding a tune that clipped)
  • Added some more options to the skin system to enable the cool new "Vintage" theme

AmigaOS 4: DiskMaster 2.7beta11
Rudolph Riedel has made availabe another beta version of his file manager DiskMaster 2.7 in OS4Depot.

Changes since 2.7beta10:
  • Despite some corrections for the 68k version, it still does not run perfectly, unfortunately
  • The calculation for adjusting the standard window to different screen resolutions was improved
  • The string gadget in the command window now displays either the configuration file with which DM2 was launched, or "S:DiskMaster2.prefs"
  • Correction: When using volume names like "Sys:" instead of device names like "DH0:", an error in the rename function had caused the renamed entry to be removed from the list.
  • Correction: Shortcut resolution did not work
  • A couple of chapters in DiskMaster2.guide were updated

Thor: ARexx script BBSsalvage.br 1.3
BBSsalvage.br is an ARexx script for the offline reader Thor, which attempts to recover damaged databases.

The script was created after an error had occurred at the author, which could not be repaired by ValidateThor, and which led to crash when trying to open a discussion.

Improvements in version 1.3:
  • Fix a bug introduced in v1.2 (or was it v1.1 ?) where a missing "end" instruction in the main loop made the script unusable
  • BBSsalvage.br will now warn you if Thor is running (Thor must not be running), and if BBSread was previously used and still loaded in memory
  • BBSsalvage.br will no more verbose that a message marked as deleted is skipped (this is to save the size of the output from results which are not very informative anyway)
  • The script will now warn if a text line length in the body of a message is longer than 32767 characters (Due to a bug in the Visual Options-Messages Links, Thor may crash the system while trying to display a message containing a too long unwrapped line)
  • The BBS list order and the conference list order are now preserved
  • The "read" (or "unread") status of the messages is now preserved too
