A-EON is already internally testing Alpha releases of their own operating system
Allegedly, A-EON's OS4 licenses expired quite some time ago and sources claim the company is not trying to apply for a new one. amiga-news.de has now received screenshots from an anonymous source that seem to be from a private forum A-EON is running for their betatesters. The screenshots show a posting from late May, in which Matthew 'Amigakit' Leaman announces the availability of the first Alpha release of "Enhancer Software Release V54". The term "Operating System" is never used, but Leaman's description clearly refers to a standalone system.

Leaman refers to the download available to Betatesters as a "Distribution". It's said to be a bootable ISO image, although the installation instructions explain how to use an existing AmigaOS 4.1 installation to set the new system up. The OS modules not yet reimplemented for the Enhancer project need to be copied from an existing AmigaOS installation into a drawer of the Enhancer system called 'Legacy:' - the distribution's installer apparently takes care of that. Leaman's description of the process is like this: "We are no longer installing the Enhancer Software over the OS 4.1.The OS 4.1 files are complementing the main Enhancer Software system".

In his announcement, Leaman lists the developers who have contributed to the project so far (surnames added by amiga-news.de staff where known):
  • Classes, Commodities: Daniel, Massimo [Tantignone], Thomas [Frieden?]
  • Datatypes-System: Kevin
  • Multiview, MultiEdit, X-Dock: Andy [Broad]
  • Utilities, preferences, system tools: Fredrik [Wikstrom], Javier, Guillaume [Boesel]
  • Neue Sensor-API, rejuvenated Mediatoolbox: Andrea Vallinotto
  • Updated versions of Ringhio: Max [Tretene]
  • Warp 3D Nova, (upcoming) modernised 2D graphics: Hans [de Ruiter]
  • Shell commands: Constantinos
  • Icons, other artwork: Martin [Merz]
Other components owned by A-EON such as MediaToolbox, DVPlayer and the original Warp3D will "of course" (Leaman) also be included in the distribution. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Demo version for platform game 'Creeping Me Out Hex Night'
'Creeping Me Out Hex Night' written by Michael Dawes using the Construction Kit Scorpion Engine is supposed to become a new jump'n run game. On the website of the developer the demo version 1.0j is available which fixes some bugs. According to the developer "it should have slightly lower memory requirements now, making it safer to load from WB. Please read the readme.txt before playing." (dr)

Metro Siege is a side-scrolling beat'em up for up to two players that requires 512 KB of chip and Fast RAM each. DaemonClaw: Origins of Nnar is supposed to be a side-scrolling run and gun (amiga-news.de reported).

In the latest video update for Metro Siege, several designs for new enemies and the rough mock-up of one of the up-coming levels are shown. Memory game: MeMO 3.13
Simone 'saimo' Bevilacqua has released an update of his memory game MeMO. His game is based on the classic memory card game but in his port two payers can simultaneously play for getting the best highscore. MeMO requires a 68020 processor and the ECS graphic chip. Changes of this release:
  • Fixed a (seemingly innocuous) bug (an OR instruction in place of a MOVE instruction) in card matching code.
  • Improved card matching policy by considering it a mistake also when the second card flipped had already been flipped before, even if the first card has been flipped just once and/or its twin card has not been flipped yet.
  • Made a couple of tiny optimizations.
  • Changed design of 'M' and 'N' letters (they were basically lowercase, which was inconsistent, as the only lowercase letter was supposed to be the 'e' in "MeMO").
  • Changed alignment of logo in menu screen by 1 pixel right/down.
  • Adapted to and recompiled against further improved custom framework.
  • Reworked game icon.
  • Added floppy disk and manual icons.
  • Improved/extended manual.

Amigakit threatening to oppose registration of 'Amiga Addict' mark in the UK
British print magazine Amiga Addict started publishing half a year ago on a mostly monthly schedule. Back in February, publisher Simulant Systems Ltd. filed a trademark application for the magazine's name and logo with the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO). As Simulant is now announcing on Twitter, British Amiga dealer AmigaKit is trying to oppose that registration.

AmigaKit's reaction to the announcement was also posted on Twitter: According to them, the notice the publisher received is not opposition, it's (quote) "simply a formal standard mechanism to give us up to a month to communicate with Simulant Systems Ltd."

Note from staff: According UK IPO, the process used by AmigaKit does indeed extend the registration process by a month automatically. But it is actually referred to as "Notice of threatened opposition", and Simulant's answer to the Amigakit statement makes it clear that so far, there have been no attempts to communicate. (cg)
