Sport: Runcoach - runner's training program for Amiga PC
Achim Klopsch writes:
For people who are into running and who are preparing themselves for a
marathon, putting together their individual training program is a great
help. A typical question would be: How do I need to set up my training in
order to improve my time for the half-marathon by 5 minutes?
Subsequently, a program will be devised up to the time of the competition
which consists of the best possible combination of different training blocks.
Runcoach, available in Aminet, is such a program (freeware) also for our
Amiga. It's the realization of the well-known PC version by the Australian
Paul Shields. Erik Engdahl is the maker of the Amiga version. Unfortunately
he's very busy at work. However, further development might be possible if
there are enough users.
Therefore whoever is interested in using Runcoach, please contact
me.
Further development could comprise:
- Possibility to print
- Training diary
- Localisation
- Import of data from pulse watches of the Polar series (e.g S410) etc.
Your comments are very much appreciated.

Emulator: WinUAE Beta for sound test plus P96-Fix
On 21 April 2001 a new beta version of the Amiga emulator 'WinUAE' for Windows
was released. This version is supposed to test whether the sound has improved.
The sound doesn't block UAE in any case, so that speed problems are not supposed to occur.
In addition there's also a P96 Fix. Whoever got problems with Picasso 96 on
WinUAE, can also take a look at the beta version.
A readme archive has been attached.

Game: Update of the 'Projekt Crashsite' web page
Markus Pohlmann writes:
Again we've got some news about the role game 'Projekt Crashsite'.
First the bad news:
Frederike, the graphic artist, hasn't shown any further interest in
'Projekt Crashsite' and has stopped her work without giving any reasons
for her decision.
The search for a new graphic designer has already started.
Now the good news:
A new picture shows the new lay-out and design of the battle routine.
The labelled buttons have been replaced by icons which improve the futuristic
visual effects.
The KI of the battle program is halfway finished. It's much better and faster now.
Besides the battle program offers variable texts and very soon you'll be
able to choose between a German or an English version. And maybe even other
language in the future.
According to a vote it has just been decided that 'Projekt Crashsite' will
first be further developed for the PPC and only subsequently for the 68k.
You can read up on all this at:

AmigaDE: Pang style game and network-enabled games
Amiga Flame briefly
reports about
the development of a new platform game for AmigaDE and Kaliko's plan regarding
the development of network-enabled games.
Nexus
Development works on a Pang style game for AmigaDE.
In this platform game there will be enemies such as UFOs and
monsters, and you will have to avoid bombs and hazards such as acid, nails,
and beams.
An editor will be included with the game to allow gamers to create
their own levels. The developers are currently seeking musicians and
beta-testers to help out.
In an
interview
with GetBoinged Kaliko revealed that
they are working on network-enabled games. As they are still in the early
stages of development there's no further information right now.
In addition Kaliko also indicated a desire to create two player games
for handhelds using infra-red connections as a means of communication.
However, only if Amiga Inc decides to include support in AmigaDE for IR
(or Bluetooth) will such titles appear.
Amiga Flame calls on everybody in a second
textto encourage
Virtual Programming to implement
'Kick Off 2002' for AmigaDE.
Virtual Programming already ports Payback onto AmigaDE as well as
'Kick Off 2002' onto Macinthosh.

Web directory: Relaunch of 'Made on Amiga' on 29 April 2002
On 29 April 2002 the Amiga web directory 'Made on Amiga' will go online
after a year's break. At the moment you can find a countdown under the
title link. Take a look at the newly designed web site with its almost
800 entries at Sneak-Preview.
'Made on Amiga' began in April 1997 as a simple web page exclusively listing
web sites which had been created or were maintained on the Amiga family of
computers. The list quickly grew, necessitating categorisation. Shortly
after that a move was made from a static page to a searchable database.
Each site is individually reviewed and categorised. Checks are also made
to confirm that the site is in fact made or maintained on an Amiga.
In the spring of 2001, 'Made on Amiga', along with a number
of other GonMad / No Original Thought websites, suffered a major setback when
the hosting ISP disappeared due to legal problems in the USA.
'Made on Amiga' has been given a complete overhaul and
redesign. After 4 months of testing, the new site is finally ready and
will be online as of 29 April 2002, exactly 5 years after its first launch.

Interview with Thendic France and Petro Tyschtschenko
We made a very extensive interview with Thendic France (Raquel Valesco
and Bill Buck) and Power Trading (Petro Tyschtschenko).
Interview with Bill Buck, Raquel Velasco and Petro Tyschtschenko
made by Petra Struck - 17.04.2002 (Deutsche Übersetzung)
amiga-news.de:
In Comments on ANN both of you gave some facts and details.
Petro stated
that Bill and Raquel fought very hard for VisCorp (his employer those times) to buy AMIGA in
the times of Escom bankruptcy. Petro said he believes bPlan are capable of managing the future.
Bill stated
that Thendic-France contracted bPlan to do some development work. Specifically, to develope the
eclipsis. Bill, you said
also your company worked very closely with Petro in 1995 and 1996. What did that mean exactly?
Thendic France:
We did. Raquel and I paid the salaries and social/tax of the Amiga Inc. personnel from June
1996 through November 1996 ourselves, personally (so we had some "bucks" too...). It was
the arrangement we made with Mr. Hembach, the Escom Bankruptcy Trustee, for the benefit of
VisCorp and was the only way to keep Amiga alive. Our VisCorp Board agreed initially,
but they did not support the effort as the details of the Escom bankruptcy became more public.
It became very complicated and ultimately VisCorp cared more
about its short term share price and completely abandoned the entire set-top box strategy.
We were never reimbursed these funds, although we did win a legal settlement against VisCorp
later (the legal issues at the time prevented us from coming public with the details). Petro
worked with us and we worked hard together to sell the Amiga inventory (which reduced the
transaction cost, but could not be used to pay personnel costs). In the end the VisCorp board
decided not to complete the transaction and we resigned. Petro went on to Gateway; VisCorp died
eventually.
We are sure that Petro will admit that without our money at the time both he personally, and
Amiga itself as a complete package (the intellectual property and the significant inventory
of A1200s and components), would have had a very hard time surviving. Mr. Hembach, the bankruptcy
trustee, wanted to sell everything any way he could. He would have split the intellectual property
into pieces and this would have made future success for Amiga impossible. Petro gets the credit
for convincing Mr. Hembach to keep the package together. Helmut Jost also deserves some credit
too as he was the last CEO of Escom and was retained by Mr. Hembach to assist him, while Petro
kept the sales channels open and "Amiga" alive. Perhaps, it is finally time for that information
to be better known.
Petro Tyschtschenko:
Yes, that were wild times.. Raquel and Bill have been a big chance to
keep our Amiga alive. The worst case that could have happend was that Mr. Hembach sold
the remaining Amiga inventory as bankrupt´s estate. Thank god that I could prevent him from
doing that... Initially we, which means Axel Krämer, Andreas Steep and I, worked without beeing
paid and without a future. Bill Buck and Raquel Valesco were together with our beloved
Amiga a big hope for the future... And when Bill Buck and Raquel paid our wages, all had
been nearly right with the world again... Sadly VisCorp didn´t made it at least. One day
at least and as rescuer there came Gateway along who took us over. If VisCorp had listened
to Raquel Valesco and Bill Buck they were not run into bankrupty and the computer industry
today would not be imaginable without Amiga in my opinion.
amiga-news.de:
Bill, in your comment you claimed that Almathera
Systems Ltd. closed under shady circumstances. Please explain that.
Thendic France:
This we did not say. We said that their decision as we understood it at the time was to
close the business because the Amiga market had become too small. The market was not big
enough to support their operation and they made a business decision to close the company.
amiga-news.de:
Bill: You made public
a Fleecy Moss email to you. IMHO this is not a professional way to act. What motivated you to do this?
Thendic France:
I did not do this. Fleecy and I traded emails about this afterwards and
have cleared this up between us. In Fleecy's words it was "a regrettable
incident." We agree.
amiga-news.de:
Bill Buck (Thendic France), how long have you
been working with Petro Tyschtschenko (Power Trading)?
Thendic France:
Raquel and I first worked directly with Petro in 1995 when VisCorp began to negotiate a
license agreement with Escom. VisCorp paid and Escom received $650,000 in prepaid royalties
when the license agreement was signed. However, I first met Petro at the CBM bankruptcy.
Manfred Schmidt, the founder and CEO of Escom, and I sat together at the bankruptcy auction.
Escom and VisCorp were partners. Escom would have been a 7% shareholder of VisCorp if they
had not gone into bankruptcy and would have been the European distributors of the ED. It was
a good plan. Just look how many companies and people tried to do the same thing later!
Unfortunately with time, Microsoft caught on, bought WebTV for hundreds of millions of
dollars and pushed it into the market. The AmigaOS on a set-top box would have dominated WebTV.
Remember, Paul Allan was one of our VisCorp shareholders. Who knows what an Internet XBOX
might have been today or better, before!...:) Amiga developers would have had access
to a huge market!
amiga-news.de:
Bill, when was it that you got the idea to work together with
bPlan?
Thendic France:
We have always admired their engineering and had discussions with them in 1996, but more
recently in 2000 we contacted Gerald just after the Amiga show in Cologne. We have come
to respect him very much. Ralph and Thomas are also excellent technicians and engineers.
Each one of them has unique strengths. We are proud to be working with them. We like them.
amiga-news.de:
Tell us about your cooperation with bPlan in detail?
Thendic France:
- We want the Pegasos to be successful.
- We are promoting the product to various markets that have demand for PowerPC-based hardware.
- We want bPlan to miniaturize the Pegasos to make the eclipsis.
- We think MorphOS is a unique and a well engineered OS.
- We want the Pegasos to become the development machine for the eclipsis.
amiga-news.de:
For what kind of device eclipsis is designed (Subnotebook or PDA) and what cpu will be used?
Thendic France:
This has been published and is online at our
Eclipsis-site. You
will further notice that the newest versions of the Gx family of processors
are also oriented to the low power requirements demanded by the mobile
market. This is a growth market and this is a new market. Of course, the
eclipsis could be configured in a laptop too. We do plan for an eclipsis
base station, so together the package can be placed into a laptop. Laptop
sales are stronger than desktop sales in today's world.
amiga-news.de:
Which kind of applications will eclipsis offer?
Thendic France:
Everything! Of course, that also becomes a problem because you have to
explain to the consumer what the eclipsis is in a very simple way. This
will be the challenge. Here is the basic message: we want to give people
the opportunity to do what they do today already in a better way, more
conveniently, with more fun, and anywhere. That is it.
amiga-news.de:
How are the measures of eclipsis?
Thendic France:
As small as small can be!...:)
amiga-news.de:
What do you aim at, where do you see your big chance for success?
Thendic France:
Long term, the handheld mobile market. This is a growth market. Mobility is the key.
Communication and entertainment are the focus. But, in the meanwhile we will
sell all our products. We operate a number of growing and profitable businesses.
Having said that, anyone can buy a Pegasos and do whatever they want with it.
amiga-news.de:
Bill, how long have Rakesh and Sharwin Raghoebardayal, better known as
Coyote Flux been on board?
Thendic France:
We started working with them in December 2000.
amiga-news.de:
Did Coyote Flux relocate to Paris
to assist with the bPlan products?
Thendic France:
Primarily yes, but they have also developed other products including the
JMiner professional photogrammetry software
and the i-Cam
and Tri-Cam viewing software
which has created a good deal of interest. The i-Cam and the Tri-Cam (a version of the ComCam)
are great products
and run on a PowerPC too.
We are building the ComCams for our distribution areas at the
Cobra Electronic GmbH
facility in Ingolstadt, Germany. They also make the Tri-Cam. Sharwin and Rakesh
have been a big help there working with the Cobra engineers to make sure that our
ComCams are perfect.
By the way, the CEO of ComCam is Don Gilbreath, the old VisCorp CTO and a former CBM
CD32 Project Manager. The ComCam has a big future and we are pleased to be working with
Don again. Carolyn Scheppner is also at ComCam. Carolyn did some coding for VisCorp,
but is more known for her work on the CATS project at CBM.
Thendic-France is the exclusive distributor of ComCam products in Europe,
the former Soviet Republics, and India (where Petro should be announcing a big successful
project soon!). We are also the exclusive worldwide ComCam distributor for the aviation
industry. There are already some ComCams in very interesting places....:)
amiga-news.de:
What specifically are the job titles and duties of Rakesh and Sharwin?
Thendic France:
We are really not much on titles. In simple terms, Rakesh is looking for the best
applications for the devices, debugging, and testing. Rakesh is a creative person and
has also been doing considerable research on the intellectual property/copyright
issues related to P2P communications and file sharing on the internet. Sharwin is
writing code and making the code work so that the products do what we want them to do.
Together they are doing plenty of things to assist the company in generating revenues and
successfully implementing a variety of tasks to support our clients. They are both quite
hard-working and talented. We appreciate them very much -- although we did tell Sharwin
to leave the hat in Holland (http://www.coyoteflux.tmfweb.nl/,
then click on "Contact" ...:)
amiga-news.de:
For what reason do you consider the Pegasos board to be a good solution?
Thendic France:
It runs very fast. It is scalable. It is upgradeable. The Pegasos gives us
something upon which we can build a great future. We are really looking forward
to receiving the G4e samples from Motorola.
From an engineering perspective, the best indication of the general engineering
quality of the Pegasos package in total would be best be summed up by a former
Engineering VP from Siemens who told us, "It is the best third-party hardware,
software and documentation package I have ever seen in 30 years."
amiga-news.de:
Rumours about the legal status of MorphOS are coming up over and
over again. Some people (e.g. Ben Hermans of Hyperion, Fleecy Moss of Amiga
Inc. and possibly Bill McEwen of Amiga Inc., too) don't think MorphOS could
be legally sold due to their belief that intellectual property of Amiga
Inc. would be part of it. If you decide to not to cooperate with Amiga Inc.
(either because you cannot or do not want to or because Amiga Inc. cannot or
don not want to), would you be willing to bring the Pegasos with MorphOS to
the market anyway?
Thendic France:
We will release and promote the products whether there is cooperation with Amiga
Inc. or not. They have chosen their principal direction with AmigaDE. Great.
We have tried to work with them, but we want to do what we want to do -- not what
they want to force us to do. It would be wonderful if we could work together,
but this is not a precondition for us to move ahead. We would like to cooperate
with Amiga. We (Thendic-Germany) were the first organization
to achieve an Amiga DE license (our lawyers wrote the license agreement) and we
would have been happy to extend our current license --and pre-pay royalties --
but we unfortunately cannot get them to see things our way. Amiga belongs to them
so that is their call. We are going ahead anyway.
amiga-news.de:
How do you personally assess the legal status of MorphOS?
Thendic France:
Well, we have been investigating the legal issues for a couple of months now and
have someone specifically preparing the files for Europe. As we all know, legal
"issues" are decided ultimately in their proper jurisdiction -- which is not on
the internet. We think that there are no legal challanges and that there will
certainly not be any legal challenges once we have a finished product. If however, anyone
is of a contrary opinion, we will be prepared and can handle the financial
commitments necessary manage a legal process. As the issues become more
apparent, we do not think there will be any serious difficulties and all
these "rumors" will become mute.
If I was Amiga, I would not allow anyone with a legitimate association to
Amiga Inc. to publicly discuss these specific issues online. Bill or Fleecy
should do it if it is thought to be necessary. Anyone else is corrupting
the process for them. We know exactly what they think now and how
misinformed they are. This will not help them if the situation becomes
worse. It really is a shame. Bill and Fleecy deserve alot more success for
what they managed to do initially than they have been able to develop since
then. These "rumors" do not help them and in reality separate them from
precisely some of the people they should want to attract.
amiga-news.de:
Bill, does Thendic-France have something to do with Thendic.de?
Thendic France:
Yes, it is owned by the same shareholders although in different proportions
(see Pretory about page).
Raquel is the Pretory Chairman of Board and is the largest single shareholder. I should
mention that Helmut Jost has been a shareholder of Pretory since 1997 and has recently become
the key manager at Thendic-Germany. In 1996, Helmut was brought into Escom by the banks after
Manfred Schmidt was removed. Helmut was also the General Manager of Commodore Germany when
Commodore Germany was responsible alone for over $500 million in annual CBM revenue in the
early 90's. Helmut's claim to fame there was his idea to put Amigas on sale in supermarkets.
CBM was the best selling computer in Germany and Helmut had alot to do with it (Petro too!).
He also ran European PC Sales for IBM and later Fujitsu. We think he will be a big help at
making the Pegasos successful and has already put a couple of excellent ideas into play.
Helmut introduced us to Thendic in late 1999.
amiga-news.de:
What happened to the announced
SmartBoy?
Thendic France:
This was addressed in the post on the Thendic-France website and can now be reviewed on
amiga-news.de.
The bottom line: we could not compete on a cost of acquisition/price to market basis for
components with the big players in the ARM and CE environment. We have kept the information
on the Thendic-Germany website in case someone wants
to purchase the development...:)
One more important thing...
I would like to also mention that Dr. Allan Havemose is also part of our team.
Allan, who just became a proud father for the first time (14 April 2002), was the
Software Engineering Director at CBM with responsibility for the Amiga operating
systems OS 2.1, OS 3.0 and OS 3.1 on the A1200, A3000, A4000, AmigaCD, and various
other platforms. As you know, Allan was more recently involved with Gateway's effort
to resurrect the Amiga. Allan is developing the Java Virtual Machine for the
Pegasos/eclipsis and will work also on the Linux side of our efforts. He brings
professional product development and product management to our team.
amiga-news.de:
Petro, what is your motivation to still busy yourself with the Amiga?
Petro Tyschtschenko:
The idea and the vision of Amiga still keeps attractive to me until today.
Personally is what Jay Miner developed in 1980 still the ideal answer to
the challenge "computer development". Since October 1982 I spent constantly
my whole working potential for this idea. How many times my family had to
suffer about it? Unfortunately the responsible management didn´t saw things
again and again, which destroyed the chances for the future at least. My hints
and advices were not heard most times... My impetus still is my convinction
that the Amiga vision will become true...
amiga-news.de:
Petro, you often talked about your book, "Amiga - Mein Leben." Are you
working on it?
Petro Tyschtschenko:
The Amiga story is such a interesting one from the mature of that today´s
world of computers. I want to conserve and transmit my knowledge from this
time to all those interested in computers. "Amiga - my life" is under work.
Here a little extract: "In summer 1982 at 7:30 pm in the evening I signed
with Harald Speyer, the Vice President Europe those days, my contract of
employment." That has been the start.
amiga-news.de:
Bill, anything else?
Thendic France:
Thank you for the opportunity to share this with "the community." We have a good
team of people and products and we will draw from the resources of all the companies
to make the Pegasos and the eclipsis successful. We hope everyone will understand
this better now!
amiga-news.de:
We thank you very much for your plainness and we wish you great success.

3CaDo: Extraction, Preparation and Creation of Video-, Audio- und Data-CDRs
3CaDo is a program pack that is still under development. The software concerns itself with the extraction, preparation
and creation of video-, audio- und data-CDRs.
ViCaDo (Video-Can-Do) is in the betaphase. More information is available right
here (German.)
AiCaDo (Audio-Can-Do) is in the alphaphase.
DiCaDo (Data-Can-Do) is in the alphaphase.
In the course of working on this program pack a couple of small, helpful tools were created, and I don't wish to keep them from Amiga users.
GetMpegInfo can provide information about mpeg streams.(Video-, Audio- und System-Streams). With shell- and
Workbench-versions.
GetAudioInfo is helpful with providing Audio-Information (16SV, 8SVX, AIFC, AIFF, AU/SND, MAESTRO,
MAUD, MP1/2/3, VOC, WAVE). With shell- and Workbench-versions.

Amithlon: Change to the FAQ-page of Bernd Meyer
As reported,
on 02.04.2002 Bernie Meyer made a public
statement
of the sales situation of Amithlon. Apparently no agreement has been
reached, because on 16.04.2002 Bernie Meyer changed his FAQ page as
follows:
I want to have it!
That's not possible right now, unfortunately. I explained the license problems in the statement. However I hope to have a new, improved, and completely licensed version available soon.
And when will that be for sale?
Hopefully very soon, after the unhappy stuff is cleared up.
Does Amiga Inc. want to publish it?
Yeah, they want to. Things have changed. Nobody is happy about it, least of all me. Amithlon was always meant to be a complete solution, with fully licensed ROMs and AmigaOS. Haage & Partner apparently didn't share this position, but I am personally not ready to compromise in this regard.
Observation of amiga-news.de:
Until now we have just heard one side of the story, so we asked H&P about this sticky wicket. Unfortunately it's not possible for H&P to speak because the signed contracts between Bernie Meyer, Harald Frank (VMC) und H&P clearly state these internal matters not be discussed publicly.
And Bill McEwen can't or won't speak either. (ps) (Translation: dm)

Music: New Songs from Psyria
There's a music project underway at Psyria, and the songs are being produced exclusively with the Amiga. Yesterday there was a new update at the homepage.
Dennis Lohr writes:
» There are two new songs in MP3 format available for download. "Dream Dimension", a richly emotional Song that is offered as a high-quality MP3, and "The Saviour" - which is offered at lower quality [and size -DM]. You'll find information about these songs in the news.
Beyond that, I'm proud to announce that, after two years of work, my first album "Out of my Life 2002" is finally ready. With this album I go on a search for a new record label. Maybe someone can give me an interesting tip about that?! :-)« (ps) (Translation: dm)

TOMORROW: Amiga: the Friend of the Player
There's an article on TOMMORROW about the Amiga, under the name "Amiga: the Friend of the Player." The article covers the topic of Amiga on the PC (UAE.) The article starts with this wonderful sentence: »Funny haircuts and acidwash jeans, no-one wants these fashion disasters of the 80's back again. But that's not the case with computer games. Even today the eyes of old gamers light up, when they daydream about the legendary computers like C64 or Commodore Amiga. Bring a new life to old games like "Turrican" or "Monkey Island.« (ps) (Translation: dm)

Commentary: The long night of comments - Chris Hodges
In politics it is all only a theatre play, a put-up job, a show for the audience.
Amiga user don't need that - since years they are following one mud bath after the other. Would be something for the TV. Or Spielberg -- "Saving private, hobby MorphOS", but you still have to wait for the "M-Day" after that you could let the blood squirt like hell.
There is speculation about legal issues, which might happen when the one operating system would really be published in that form a beta version has been made public more than a year ago.
And who has to sue whom, which chances every party has - and over and over again the same accusations were repeated and denied from both sides.
But you learn it at school: thesis - argument - evidence. Without evidences you have to sit down and get a really bad mark.
Others like e. g. Bill Buck, "no luck", are publishing private e-mails as an evidence that both sides don't act very professional. And straight in the center, there is Benjamin, an elephant lawyer in a china shop, who does'nt say the things in a roundabout way since a long time. And he never ever forgets anything. Just like Ralph Schmidt. But nearly as quarrelsome are some MOS fans and of course the complementary AmigaOS 4 trolls too. It's worse than some UFO conspiration theoretics.
It's nearly like science fiction: features are compared which nobody has ever seen. Judical instances are skiped, let's go to high court directly. Or better on the streets, so we might clear up all that senseless and personal insults. Just like in the movie ´Fight Club´. somehow I don't loose that feeling that all smash the others face, just movielike. But the audience doesn't think it's funny any more.
Or who has been first, who divides, who cribed from whom. That are the questions, which "the stupid American" or "the incompetent German judge" cannot answer. For that you will need a nine years lasting lawstudy. All the user can do is waiting and even threads at various news services with about 400 comments don't help any further.
Sometimes silence is really more worth than gold. With every wrong word the "amiga community" is shrinking a bit. Give me a broom that I can clean up the rubble.
I believe that Amiga OS 4 as well as MorphOS are much promising projects and a bunch very high talented developers are working on it. But as long as I haven't seen anything more up to date from both, MorphOS and AmigaOS4, it is nothing worth to debate about it.
Basically we all want the Amiga to be revitalized. But just like Aimee Mann says in her song "Frankenstein", in such a lovely way:
"When you're building your own creation /
Nothing's better than real, than a real imitation."
Maybe those fighting cocks would be better for politics?

ControlTV beta 0.1 for Mediator
At the 3rd party Mediator support site (title link) of VGR Vicente ´Ami603´ Gimeno has released a new beta version 0.1 of ControlTV
which contains now English and Spanish versions.
There are screenshots too, which show ControlTV in action.
ControlTV is a simple Arexx-script, which uses AWNPIPE to get a graphic user interface for the driver programs of the Elbox
multimedia-CD. With that it is for example possible to switch without any problems between different TV-channels.

Amiforce celebrates 1st birthday
Cj-Stroker:
Amiforce has today, the 17th of April 2002 its first birthday.
At first it has been planned to release the German version of Amiblitz for this reason.
But due to lack of time this will likely not happen before next week. The editor PED has taken more time than initially thought.
The planned bonus tracks will be a bit late on schedule as well. All that might be finished within the next days. That time also courses and tutorials will start.
The rest of Amiforce will be updated as well. For this the soft guide category will be opened. The start is with OpenAG.
Later this client and AmiComSys + HL_Plugin too will be discribed in helpguide. Unfortunately this takes it´s time.
And here I want to thank all those people who supported me all that time.
Happy Birthday!

Even the big daily newspaper "Hamburger Morgenpost" (sold edition

Eyetech CEO Clarifies AmigaOne/OS4.0 Announcement
"On ann and elsewhere there has been a lot of speculation about the nature of the ROM modifications to allow the A1-G3 (and any subsequent Amiga inc approved models) to run OS4 +
As most people here will realise we have always declared that we want to use the official Amiga OS and for Hyperion and Amiga to have their just rewards for licencing the AmigaOne and OS4 products. We are not the only possible licencees, but I guess that we committed to these conditions before anyone else. As a result we have worked in very close cooperation with both Amiga Inc and Hyperion throughout the A1 development program to ensure that piracy of OS4 is kept to a minimum. Jointly we have worked out that the best way to
do this is :..."
- To put ROM extensions (ie dongle code) in the boot ROM, in addition to the regular boot code.
- To put this in hard-coded, socketed ROM at a specific address in the PPC memory map, rather than in Flash ROM, which could easily be pirated/updated
- To ensure that OS4 calls this code from multiple points to make workround patches difficult to implement
- To ensure that a copy of OS4 is sold with all hardware capable of running it (ie with the dongle code in ROM)
- To use similar routines that already exist in the 3.1 Kickstart ROM as an alternative for the PPC accelerator implementations.
Although a dedicated pirate could no doubt copy the boot code and dupe the ROM's, unless this was to be done in bulk - which would be easy to spot and close down - the overheads involved versus buying the ROM would mean few people would be likely to do it. The situation is analagous to OS3.1/3.5/3.9 in that you had to have/buy 3.1 ROMs to run the OS, unless you go to extraordinary work-around lengths.
We are producing all the developer/dealer boards and at least the first run of user boards with this dongle code in place in the ROM - and therefore the obligation to purchase OS4 with them. (They can of course be used to run Linux, but you will still need to buy OS4 with these boards). If there is sufficient demand from the Linux comunity we will probably then produce some boards without the AmigaOne name (and without the dongle code needed for booting OS4). In this case we will also make available an OS4 + ROM upgrade pack (similar to the OS3.5/3.9 +3.1ROMs upgrade packs sold by most Amiga
Dealers) to purchasers of the Linux-only boards wishing to upgrade to OS4.
As far as other licenced stand-alone ppc hardware is concerned, it would, in my view, need to support a similar protection format (ie socketed hard coded ROM, not Flash ROM) to embody the same level of anti-piracy protection as The A1G3-SE. Whether, in the specific cases of other hardware manufacturers, this socketed ROM has already been implemented, or remains an option, or requires a partial redesign of the hardware is not something that I have any knowledge of. It is between Amiga Inc and the potential licencees concerned.
This tight anti-piracy regime has obviously upset some individuals on the
mailing lists who clearly did not expect to have to pay for OS4, or hoped to buy unapproved/unlicenced PPC Linux boards to save a few bucks. Well tough, we dont want your business under those circumstances and will do all in our power to make sure that if you buy one of our boards for Linux-only use you will not be able to use it for running OS4+ unless you are prepared to pay Hyperion and Amiga Inc their proper licence fees.
And I'm sure that all other potential serious licencees of endorsed Amiga
hardware will see it this way too."

Starfox: Many old Amiga games for free download now...
Maybe the one or other still knows the games Minerunner,
Poweroids, Star Defender or Monsters of Terror...
For a long time these have been available only as limited demo versions.
From now on all these four games ar free for download without restrictions.
Except Defender all games are running multitasking, also with four players at the same time, which is possible
with the 4 player adaptor for the parallel port.
Further information and a source for download you might find with the title link.

Bill Buck (E-Mail)
|
Thendic France: A statement about the future (Update)
Thendic-France (Bill Buck and Raquel Valesco) published a statement about the future
of that company at their homepage. Beside the explanation of the general business plan there are some words about the pegasos-board and what Bill Buck and
Raquel Valesco think about the current politic of Amiga Inc.
A short excerpt:
»What Amiga Inc. does not apparently understand and in our frustration
we have decided to make public, is that when we sell a Pegasos there is
absolutely nothing that prevents a buyer for loading anything they want
on to the machine. This is our last attempt to communicate our frustration.
We have decided to do this publicly, as Bill McEwen has done by excluding us
from his 12 April letter. MorphOS will still be free for the Pegasos.
When everything is finished and MorphOS can stand on its own completely
and distinctly we will have the eclipsis ready for our first round of promotion.
We stopped bplan from releasing the Pegasos sooner. We encouraged them to
fine tune the board before and not after release. They could have shipped
samples sooner. We have had ours for months. By 1 June this board will be
rock-steady.
The Pegasos is a great product. We have already developed some incredible
software for it. But, the future as we see it is the miniaturized version,
the eclipsis. This will be something very special. The Pegasos will serve
as our development machine and we will be offering special packages to
developers that sign on and get to work helping us create a market leading
solution for the future of mobile entertainment and communications.
-----
Bill McEwen was able to do something very noteworthy when he bought Amiga
from Gateway. We admire him very much for this accomplishment. We have
been in discussions with Bill over the years on many occasions since the
demise of VisCorp. We offered a license to Gateway and specifically to Bill
when he was there for the VisCorp patents. You will find that these
patents/abandoned are dormant now, but you will find that Raquel Velasco
is the owner of record of all seven. In September of 2000, King Lee, a
former VisCorp board member and the Chairman of Amiga Inc. at the time,
ask us to talk to Bill and try to assist him. We did. We told him to go
after the "classic" OS. We told him to finish the upgrade to the PPC. In
the meanwhile, we licensed AmigaDE and we made the "SmartBoy." When the
prototype was built, AmigaDE was not ready. Finally, we abandoned the
effort because in a world with the likes of Compaq, etc., a Windows CE
device running AmigaDE is a bit like pouring alot of water in a good glass
of wine. It just did not make good business sense and we could not achieve
competitive pricing (even for the embedded market).
So here we are today with a working machine, but we want something that works
with our hardware in a way that is necessary for our purposes. We still
remain open to other possibilities. Software is made for hardware, not
vis-a-versa.
We cannot overlook the fact that hardware nearly seven years old and developed
by the same engineers as the Pegasos is being used today to complete other
developments. We cannot wait for these efforts. We are in business and when
the hardware is ready it will go on sale. The Pegasos and the eclipsis are
the biggest chance for this market and will provide plenty of opportunity
to grow into new markets..
We will sell the Pegasos. It is a cannon! Buyers will buy and load the
ammunition...
We will still be here in business.
We would like very much to cooperate with Amiga Inc.«
You find the complete press release
here.
Addition 17.04.2002:
Meanwhile the statement was removed from the webside. The information about
Eclipsis
and Pegasos
are still available and can be found at the given links. (ps) (Translation: sk)

- DCC CHAT support (comes from me)
- LogWriter

AudioLabs: DSPSpeed benchmarking results for Athlon XP 2000+
AudioLabs have published new results of their DSPSpeed benchmarking.
The AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU makes ProStationAudio fly 29 times faster
(minimum, up to 38.8 times faster) than on a 68060 system.
The DSPSpeed test was done by Nico Barbat of
(AmigaPlus-Magazin) on the H&P Silverblue
system.
DSPSpeed is a tool that contains the actual code from the ProStationAudio
realtime engine, to provide accurate speed benchmarks without installing
the whole application.
The reference system is AmigOS/68 on a 68060 with 50MHz. An index
value of 100% has been allocated to this system. (sd) (Translation: sr)

Programming language: PowerD V0.19 alpha 6
On 13 April 2002 Martin Kuchinka released version 0.19 alpha 6 of
the programming language 'PowerD'. This version contains some bugfixes
and some new features. Compared to the previous release the following
changes were made:
- You can replace (not only) powerd.lib functions just by defining them
- fixed length arg in RealStr() function
- fixed EStrCopy(), EStringF() functions
- improved support of OOP4A project
- You are allowed to use directly: var.func(args) instead of domethode(var,'func',args)
- added ppc functions: EStringF(), RealStr(), RealEStr()
- added/fixed all the quoted-expression functions: Eval(), MapList(), ForAll(), Exists(), SelectList()
68k only!!!, ppc knows currently only Eval()
- bugfixes reported by Marco Antoniazzi
- IF (~x) compiled wrong
- IF (a) AND ~(b) compiled wrong
- NOR and NAND keywords do now work
- added '#include' preprocessor keyword
- fixed assembler error when EXCEPTDO without Raise() occured
- bugfixes reported by Kai Wolf
- fixed a bug of too many args...
- bugfixes reported by Michel Bagmeijer
- Rem() isn't supported anymore
- DC can now compile also data only sources without any procedures
- added syntax error when 'CASE something:' used. (if the colon is used)
- bugfixes reported by Nemeth Miklos
- added a warning when assigning a value to an array (not item of array)
This release is a very early Alpha version. If you have any ideas or
suggestions or if you discover any bugs, just e-mail
kuchinka@volny.cz
The compiler runs from AmigaOS V3.0, CPU 68ec020, 4MB RAM and 3-4 MB
empty space on the hard disc. The compiler doesn't need FPU. But the created
programs need a FPU if they use floats. The PPC binaries run via the
powerpc.library.
Apart from the compiler 'phxass' and 'phxlnk' are needed to create 68k as
well as 'pasm' and 'vlink' to create a PPC code.
These programs can be found on the homepage of
Frank Wille.

Ben Hermans Tries to Clarify AmigaONE ROM / OS4 Announcement
"1. The fact that the AmigaOne Falshrom will contain parts of OS 4 is certainly not meant as a way/won't operate to lock out other operating systems such as Linux, BSD etc.
Fact of the matter is that you will be able to compile Linux/BSD for these machines if you insist on it.
2. The real "anti-piracy" measure is the fact that the AmigaOne will ship with an OS 4 OEM version.
It will not be possible to buy boards without OS 4.
You buy the hardware, you're buying the software, just like you did with your old Amiga (or indeed with any pre-build Wintel machine or Mac).
This will ensure that development of OS 4 isn't affected overly by piracy.
Other companies targeting the Amiga market with their hardware should in principle also adopt this scheme to the extent that it is practicable.
In return they will be able to use the Amiga trademarks and tradename and their hardware will be perceived by their target audience as "endorsed" by Amiga.
3. Amiga are insisting that any hardware vendors who want to target the Amiga userbase with their products have their hardware certified and are also "vetted" themselves (support infrastructure, after sales service, financial well-being etc.).
We all know that in the post-Commodore years certain companies were allowed to operate in the market which didn't exactly shine in the area of after sales service (including repair) and tech support.
Many a user has left the market because of incidents with (expensive) hardware being sent away for repair never to be heard of again.
Many a dealer has closed his Amiga business because of the fact that they could not guarantee any form of after sales service to their customers and were in fact exposing themselves to legal action on the part of their customers.
On January 1, 2002 a new EU directive on warranty obligations is supposed to be transposed in national law which imposes even stricter warranty obligations on dealers.
It's clear that it would be very detrimental to the Amiga brand and the perception of Amiga Inc. and its products if former practises would be allowed to continue."

New IRC client: BenderIRC version 1.4
The new IRC client BenderIRC is here. Full of functions and
possibilities and totally different to all IRC clients so far for the Amiga.
From CTCP to XDCC is everything here. Even the DCC SEND problem from the
locale network with IP-NAT has been solved.
What makes BenderIRC now so special? Well, the complete GUI can be set up as the
user wants it. Whether gadgets are there or not, it doesn't matter! Their size?
That doesn't matter, too! Build your own IRC client!
And what completes this all? The client has a built in BOT function.
Remote access to your computer, of course password secured ;-). Integrated
translation engine for German <-> English that can be used within
the channel!
And all those who need even more will love the plugin system of BenderIRC!
Example: if the sentence "News on www.amiga-news.de - people, read it
immediately" appears the website pops up in no matter of time :-).
As the client was earlier finished than the Denic creating the domain here's the
direct link to the download site or you wait until the program is on Aminet.

Amiga Inc.

Amiga Inc.: Executive Update - Amiga Status Announcement
Greetings to the Amiga community,
A week ago we shared with you our joy as we move towards the rebirth
of the Amiga desktop platform. The AmigaOne and AmigaOS4 are projects
that have occupied almost every day of our lives for the last two years.
For the community, the wait and the false dawns have been unbearable.
Contrary to the rumours spread in some circles, we have spent considerable
time and resources in creating a strategy that will see the Amiga desktop
platform move back into the mainstream and take its proper place in the
market. The AmigaOne and AmigaOS4 are just the first and most visible
signs of this strategy. It is very important to us that we provide a total
and compelling Amiga experience to future customers.
The first measure we are announcing is that we have pledged ourselves
to the production and development of a platform where both users and developers
are guaranteed not just a quality product but a total quality experience
as well. This will be achieved through a combination of a strict set of
Quality Assurance certifications and the AmigaOS only being available
to licensed solution providers for the shipping of combined hardware and
software solutions.
From the top of the company to the bottom, we are committed to championing
the cause of quality for the consumer and will ensure that substandard
products do not make it into the Amiga market where they can do irreparable
damage to the reputation of the platform. Licencees will have to develop
and resource a full customer solution, with guarantees on product quality,
delivery, and most important of all post sales support, with firm commitments
to repair, replacement and turnaround, elements that have blighted the
platform over the last five years.
In addition, the close co-operation between Amiga Inc and solution licencees
will ensure the tightest binding of the software to the hardware, providing
the highest possible performance and providing the basis for rapid development
as we move forwards together.
As a result, AmigaOS4 and all future versions will ship only on those
hardware products to which Amiga Inc has specifically granted a license
after reviewing the capabilities of both the solution provider and their
product. The only exclusion to this policy is a temporary measure to support
the community members who have invested heavily in existing PPC accelerators
and will cover products where an Amiga manufactured or licenced Kickstart
ROM is present (for instance A1200/A3000/A4000).
Currently this hardware comprises:
- Eyetech's AmigaOne series of PPC motherboards
- Cyberstorm-PPC accelerators by phase 5/DCE
- Blizzard-PPC accelerators by phase5/DCE
We have also been approached by and are currently in negotiation with
the following companies for the licencing of the AmigaOS to allow for
a combined hardware and software solution:
- The Shark card by Elbox
- PPC accelerator cards for the Prometheus by Matay
- Merlancia Industries MMC Toro Series
In the case of newly available hardware, including the Eyetech, Elbox
and Matay products above, the licence requires that OS4-specific extensions
are included in the hardware's boot ROM as an anti-piracy measure. For
hardware which is not capable of being used in conjunction with Amiga
WB 3.1 (such as the AmigaOne) we will require, as part of the licence
conditions, that a copy of Amiga OS is purchased with all boards sold
that are capable of running it.
The measures identified above have been put into place after consultation
with our partners, developers, dealers and users, and represents a recognition
that if the Amiga platform is to become successful again, it needs to
exude professionalism and responsibility where the needs of the customer
are paramount. With these measures, AmigaOS4 and the new hardware solutions,
the Amiga desktop platform is primed to move forwards.

Coyote Flux explanation concerning GFX-Base interview
Dear People,
As promised there would be some details announced considering the
"Supercomputer" system that we have said we are working on. In this
case there has to be said that the system that has been referred to is
the Pegasos from bplan. Our company Thendic-France has retained bplan
to miniaturize the Pegasos to make a handheld "Supercomputer".

Catweasel ISA: Image-write utility
The following news cannot be disseminated without a sense of irony:
66 months since the initial release of the Catweasel ISA, we're
publishing a free tool for writing disks with the controller.
The aplha-version currently supports Amiga disks only, and it runs on
DOS or in a DOS box of Win95/98. For easy porting to other operating
systems, and for educational purposes, the source is included.

Development System for Graphic Adventures: Inga-Engine Version 1.02ß/7 u.m.
A new update is available for "Inga," the development system for graphic adventures. It has to do with the number five, which has been around for a few days already. Indeed, two small mistakes in the application have been overcome today.
Inga-Engine Version 1.02ß/7 (Beta)
- Disappearing pointer error: fixed.
- Absence of cdplay library caused an error message, even when the audio-CD support was deactivated: fixed.
Inga-Engine Version 1.01ß/7 (Beta)
- Command "SpielEnde" (GameEnd) to exit the system.
- Messages (for example "Abbruch" (Quitting)) on the top window edge disappear, when entering a new area.
ScriptShell Version 1.11
- The game logging data is saved quicker.
InutilisGraphics Version 1.05
- The entry of the name data is saved in a more sensible way. For example when you load an ilbm-data then save it, the original name appears automatically.
- All the animation data is loaded with the corresponding picture.
OrtEditor (AreaEditor) Version 1.11
- The small buffer caused a crash: fixed.

Filesharing: Audiogalaxy Satellite for AmigaOS
AudioGalaxy behaves in accordance with an established peer-to-peer file-sharing standard. For Linux there is an open source code named "OpenAG",
and it's from this that the Amiga version is created.
The program may be downloaded from the homepage of its author. It should be noted that ixemul.library (at least v48) is required. You can find this on the homepage as well.
For those who are not yet acquainted with AudioGalaxy: the client does not make use of a GUI. It runs strictly as a background task. It's easy to start the program, just create an account at audiogalaxy.com and log in with your web-browser.
The file-searching and the downloading is then handled through your web-browser. (ps) (Translation: dm)

create and distribute content that can run on numerous digital devices.
"Amiga is now focused on the vision that all digital content should be

Felix Schwarz (ANF)
|
IOSPIRIT founded, takeover of Innovative products
At the end of the year 2000, fxSCAN 3.0, the first program for optical character recognition (OCR)
for the AMIGA for a long time, has been officially presented. The program AMIGA-users longed for
such a long time was ordered that often within the first few weeks of availability that the infrastructure
of Innovative couldn't keep pace any more.
Felix Schwarz, author of such powerful and popular graphics applications like fxSCAN, fxPAINT, Ultraconv
and VHI Studio, made the decision to create an own company from Innovative, the AMIGA-division (led by Felix
Schwarz) of the software-company of his father, renew the whole internal infrastructure and organisation,
expand the business areas and to further extend and improve the customer service.
On the 2nd of January 2002 IOSPIRIT was founded by Felix Schwarz in Herzogenaurach. The enterprise
has two main fields of business activity:
- Software development
IOSPIRIT develops powerful graphics applications for the most different tasks and target
audiences. In development special focus is put on the support of the latest technologies
and easy usability while still offering maximum power, flexibility and expandibility. IOSPIRIT
also develops new, innovative technologies whereof the user directly profits.
- Software distribution
Thanks to a unique infrastructure IOSPIRIT has the possibility to distribute software online
and offline.
Online distribution is done via a self-developed online-application for "Electronic Software
Delivery" (ESD). In a first step the customer puts the desired articles into the basket and then
orders them. After an incoming payment via credit card or pre-payment the download of the product
is unlocked for the customer - mostly at the same day the order was placed. As this type of order
is automatically handled by the central IOSPIRIT server, cost savings can be passed on directly to
the customer in the form of price reductions.
Of course "hard stuff" (so called "package versions" like e.g. CD-ROMs) can also be ordered, which
then, thanks to a well thought through and work step optimized infrastructure, can be delivered
very quickly. The customer is kept up-to-date on the status of the order via e-mail and can get an
overview over his orders (including their status) anytime via IOSPIRIT's website.
IOSPIRIT takes over the whole product range of Innovative. Our customers in future will profit from the
extended abilities and the excellent infrastructure of IOSPIRIT. fxSCAN, fxPAINT and VHI Studio will be
intensively developed further and maintained in the future. More information on this will be made public
shortly in seperate press releases.

At the AmigaActive mailing list editor Neil Bothwick confirmed that

- The 2.3 upgrade will be a free release, available on Aminet.
- It should work on a standard Amiga running OS 3.0/3.1/3.5/3.9.

USB: Information about Poseidon USB stack for AmigaOS
Poseidon is the software solution that brings USB to the Amiga. It will run
on every Amiga equipped with OS3.1 or higher.
To give the users and developers an overview on the state of the software,
please read these facts.
The hardware interface allows to use any USB controller hardware, if the
drivers are written for it:
- As already reported a few days ago by Michael Böhmer, Poseidon will be
the official USB stack included with the Highway and Subway products. It
has been developed using these fine cards.
- A native PPC compile for MorphOS will be possible. Moreover, the MorphOS
development team (cyfm) is working on a hardware driver (UHCI) for the
Pegasos. By the time of writing, the keyboard and mouse classes already
work with more coming soon.
- Benjamin Vernoux has started with a OHCI driver implementation.
Currently, we have got the following class drivers:
- hub.class for the root hub and external hubs. Allows real plug-and-play
and unplugging of USB devices at the user's will (tested with an external
hub and a composite keyboard-hub).
- bootmouse.class for mice (lots of different mice tested).
- bootkeyboard.class for keyboards (several keyboards tested).
- printer.class delivering an usbparallel.device for printing (tested with
Canon S400/S450/S500, Hewlett Packard printers)
- massstorage.class for flash card readers and other mass media.
A lot of people already have received the software developer packages and
said to contribute with digicam/webcam drivers (Felix Schwarz from
innovative), printer drivers (TurboPrint), scanner drivers, etc.
More drivers are still to come. Remember that Poseidon is work-in-progress.
There is already a tool to read out pictures from Webcams using the STV680
chip. Other drivers (which will have much more features) will be provided
by Felix Schwarz for VHI Studio. You can find the first Amiga USB Webcam at
webcam.jpg
Trident, a GUI for Poseidon, is already on the way, although the stack is
so easy to handle, that advanced users will probably stick to the few CLI
commands for loading Poseidon. The whole stack and its class drivers can be
made ROM resident, so that the USB mouse and keyboard is already available
in the boot menu. Even more, it is planned to add booting capabilities to
the massstorage.class.
Developers, who want to contribute may apply for the SDK by sending an
email to poseidon@platon42.de. Also have a look at http://www.e3b.de/usb
for more detailed technical information.

linux, QNX, (dr)dos and Mac OSX.
Feature list:
- Easy to use and fast interface
- Intuitive sequencing method(x0x), no steep learning curve
- Fully integrated usage of both midi sounds and native audio (samples)
- Hardware indepedant OS friendly coding
- Does only need little resources
- No fixed pattern length

AmigaOne: Gamestar reports about AmigaOne
In the latest issue of the games magazine 'Gamestar' (05/2002) you can find
the following (Cebit?) news on page 18:
Amiga returns-
Under the title AmigaOneG3-SE the venerable home computer Amiga returns.
Incorporated in this computer is a firmly welded Power-PC-G3 processor with
600 Mhz. The mainboard, called A1.5, corresponds to the ATX standard
and therefore fits in any common PC case.
The set of chips supports AGP2x, 4 PCI boards and 2GByte PC133 access memory
at the most. Drives and input devices are connected via IDE, PS/2 and
USB interfaces. To increase competition, dealers are allowed to fix prices
for boards as well as complete systems. The manufacturer Eyetech is
leading the way: The A1.5 mainboard with processor is only supposed to be
600 EURO, including VAT and delivery charges. The operating system AmigaOS4
is available at 70 EURO, not including VAT.
www.eyetech.co.uk.
The magazine shows a picture with an open PC case and the caption:
'Incorporated in AmigaOneG3-SE is a G3 processor with 600 Mhz from Motorola.'

AROS: Survey about requested features
Matt Parsons has included a new page in AROS, a feature request page. It
allows users and potential users of AROS to vote for the feature they want
to see most.
At the moment it's possible to vote for one of the two options:
Should the AROS team focus either on Workbench or on drivers and other
low-level systems (OOP)?
Since the vote on the above mentioned page can only be called up via
JavaScript, Matt Parsons has sent amiga-news.de the formula to publish
it direct.
«Is it better for the AROS team to work on a Workbench now (and have one ready in a couple of weeks) or spend more time on drivers and low-level (OOP) system and worry about the workbench later (in about three to four months)?
If we make a desktop now, it will only be a stop gap (with only the features of the original Workbench) and will be much improved later once the OOP system is finished to provide a more modern desktop environment.»

Matrix screen blanker v1.9
Matrix is a screen blanker for AmigaOS 68k and MorphOS.
It works (or should work) on OCS, ECS, AGA, CGX and P96.
This update fixes the problems under OCS/ECS/AGA and Picasso96 introduced
in v1.8.
Detailed changes:
- The version string is back. [Hexaae]
- Fixed AGA screen depth and improved performance with FBlit. [Hexaae]
- Fixed P96 screen depth. [kakace]
- Should work without NoJoyCheck on systems where it was necessary before
(A4000 with nothing plugged in joy port 1, for example).
- AntiBlanker feature: you can create a ENV:AntiBlanker.cfg file which
contains a list of tasks that prevent blanking. [ChaoZer]

Game: ScummVM MorphOS with new interface
The new CVS-snapshot of ScummVM finally contains a completely new MorphOS-interface. Two of the most important news are the scaling engine which can scale the pictures with antialiasing to a double size (for that please have a look at the pictures on my homepage - they can tell more than thousands of words) as well as the support of CD-ROM-audio.
The new archive can be downloaded under the title link.
Now the details to the news
- New scaling engine with antialiasing. When playing the game you can switch between the scaling engines at any time.
- The program contains code for the MIDI-music. The MIDI-music starts playing as soon as AMidi will have been published for MorphOS.
- Support of the CD-ROM-audiotracks of Loom and Monkey Island. The MorphOS-version is the first one after the SDL-version which supports audiotracks. Because of that I have created a new CD-audio-library which is enclosed in the archive as a beta version and which can automaticly recognize CD-ROM-drives connected to the computer and if there is more than one CD-drive which can automaticly find the one with the "right" game-CD.
- Standard MorphOS command line (instead of the usual Unix like one).
- Start possible over pictprogram from the workbench or from the toolbar without having to write a script for this.
- Support for the video sequences of The Dig and Full Throttle.
- Manual with 26 pages in PDF-format and with detailed FAQ (requires Apdf).
- Archive contains colourful pictprograms for all supported games.
- Before publishing as usual all supported games have been tested that they are work like the Windows/Linux-versions.
- ... Many more minor improvements and bugfixes.

Development of GoldED Studio for AmigaOS stopped
Developer's Notice - Discontinued
I regret to inform AmigaOS users that all software on this web site is now discontinued (due to lack of time on my side to continue with AmigaOS software development).
What will happen to the BASIC interpreter?
Expect the source code to be made available under the GPL in the near future (in a nutshell, a GPL is a public domain license).
What will happen to the GoldED Studio software?
GoldED will remain available as a commercial product while stock lasts. Personal technical support will end this year. No future updates for AmigaOS will be released from the original developer.

Not only the commercial Amiga game market has been almost vanished but also the PD game market! You cannot find new interesting games on Aminet except some few ones. Amiga Arena: Full Version of "AmigaBase V.2.6"
In cooperation with Steffen Gutmann, Amiga Arena is making possible the opportunity to download the full version of AmigaBase V.2.6.
About AmigaBase:
AmigaBase is NOT a relational databank with SQL-crosspoints or the like. AmigaBase IS a hierarchical, programmable databank. In spite of that, or straightaway because of it, AmigaBase is prominently suited for the management of music and video cassettes, addresses and so on.
But also complicated applications, for example bookkeeping with automatic referral and the writing of calculations, are no problem for AmigaBase.
A complete documentation of AmigaBase including all the programmable possibilities is provided in German and English in PostScript and PDF formats.
Amiga Arena offers our thanks to Steffen Gutmann for allowing us to offer this, and we would like to call attention to the development of the successor to AmigaBase, at MuiBase. (ps) (Translation: dm)

Netconnect3-user have to, for using the actual beta, register first their NC3-key at Vapor again as "single keys" because the NC3-key does not work with actual products of Vapor any longer.
This can be done at thesupport site .

AUG99: Pictures from Mekka & Symposium 2002
The Amiga User Group 99 was abroad again and brought with them some pictures from the Mekka & Symposium.
It's been a superb event with about 1400 participants. 1st-class Demos were shown on a huge screen, too, creating a unique atmosphere inside the hall.
There was to ascertain that the Amiga-demos do not need to hide in any way for the superior PC-demos. At least they seemed more dynamic and more interesting. The most impressive was the 64k-demo "Planet Potion" of group "potion", this one was confirmed inside the hall with huge applause.
Furthermore there were beside the PC-demos some C64- and (sadly) any very few some Atari-demos. Shown were as well some demos for the Gameboy and for the TI83 calculator, which was very impressive.
Among the Demos there were more topics like mp3 music, tracker, and graphic. More about that and all the results are on site Mekka & Symposium. (ps) (Translation: ub)

Amiga Expo 2002: Show Report by Daniel Miller
The Amiga/Alternative Computer Expo 2002 was organized by ImageFX's Kermit
Woodall and took place in Hunt Valley, Maryland, which is a nondescript but
nice town about 80 miles north of Washington DC. Not wanting to spend the
entire weekend I attended Saturday for several hours which gave me enough
to author this very basic report for the readers of
www.amiga-news.de.
The Hunt Valley Marriot Hotel had one large exhibition area where about 24
vendors, user groups, and others set up their stands. Additionally there
were downstairs meeting rooms where special seminars took place, on subjects
like Lightwave, Video Toaster, robotics, Javascript, ImageFX, and more.
The seminar I attended featured a panel of 3 former Amiga engineers: Dale
Luck, Dave Haynie, and Andy Finkel. Each spoke for a few minutes about his
experiences with the Amiga computer at Commodore and thereafter. They then
accepted questions from the audience.
Dale had injured a leg muscle in a skiing adventure, and he sat and took it
easy while the others did most of the talking. Andy and Dave spoke about the
early years, and about the Commodore bankruptcy. They spoke about their
common work at PIOS on the Metabox set-top box. I can't recall who, but one
of the three spoke about the 3DO system as the reinvention of Amiga OS, and
another about the AmiJoe PPC-accelerator card. When asked about Amiga Inc.'s
DE product, Dave said that it was "a good idea" and that someone named Gary
had sent him two of the latest DE programs, but then accidentally let slip
that the programs crashed on his Zaurus.
Overall the men seemed happy talking about their time at Amiga, and a bit
wistful. Andy and Dave agreed that the single biggest mistake was wasted
time and a failure to seize the moment when technological advances had been
within the company's reach.
Upstairs in the large exhibit hall, a vendor with a mild speaking impediment
ushered people over to try his Arcade in a Box.
It is a sturdy joystick, button and trackball cabinet, which interfaces with
MAME to play hundreds of arcade games with the feel of the real thing.
The people who produce the X1200 (which is an emulator-running PC in a
compact A1200ish case) were there demonstrating that unusual product,
which is rather spiffy in appearance. The X1200
is a pretty good idea. It runs Amithlon, which seemed to be selling very well
at the show. Amithlon was getting positive comments all around. Amiga Inc.'s DE
was a non-issue. Nobody is into that, from what I saw. There was a lot of
anti-Microsoft sentiment. People resent having to use products by that
company, because the Windows monopoly is such a fact of life and the
consumer does not have much of a choice.
An example of the vendors present at the show was
Compuquick who were very
knowledgeable and had a good variety of stuff including A1200s and the oldish
Phase5 PPC accelerators which can run MorphOS.
MorphOS felt a bit like a taboo subject. The MorphOS/4.0 question is the most
politicized issue ever for followers of this platform. Some of the vendors were
taking preorders for AmigaOne/4.0. Ben Hermans from Hyperion was reached on
cellphone and was interviewed for at least 15 or 20 minutes. Ben must be given
credit for putting himself out there and being a salesman.
I liked the fact that this convention doubled as an "alternative computers"
convention, however this good idea has not been realized. There wasn't much
representation from alternative computing systems. No Linux people, and I
don't think anyone from QNX appeared either. And of course it would have
great to see a MorphOS stand.
On the whole, the event was positive. There are several different Amiga
platform projects in the pipeline now, some of which seem realistic. If
some new products materialize, the dynamics of the scene will change, and
we could continue these conventions, only bigger and busier.

Statement from Bernie Meyer regarding the distribution of Amithlon
Bernie Meyer:
The bad news first: I have just released a statement regarding the
distribution of Amithlon; It is available under the title link.
Please read it; I hope it might explain some of my recent less than
cordial reactions on the Amithlon mailing list.
The good news is that I have uploaded an updated kernel image (based
on linux 2.4.19pre4) and a bunch of patches; You can grab that stuff
from http://www.amithlon.net/en/amithlon_updates.shtml.
I hope it comes in useful for someone.
I know this is going to cause a great deal of discussion and speculation.
I would like to ask everyone to please be reasonable, and stick to the
known facts, as well as to polite forms of discourse. The situation is bad
enough as it is, nothing at all can be gained from aggravating anyone
involved.
Thank you all for your understanding,
Bernie Meyer

Amiga Information Site
Due to the number of complaints on several public lists and forums
regarding a lack of a centralised place for Amiga information of all
kinds (classic, AmigaOne, OS4, Amiga Anywhere), I am working on such a
site.
It's TEMPORARY home is at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~yttrium/amiga/
Please note that the current layout is very much not going to be the
final look of the page. I've got it how it is so that I can easily and
quickly add pages and information without the need to work on the
nitty-gritty of looks - I'm no website designer but please don't send
ideas for how you think I can make it look better, I'll come to that when
I've got enough information to warrant having a page in the first place.
What I'd like to request is that anyone who feels they can contribute,
please do so by emailling me information and pages to include. This is
not intended as a news site so I don't want information about upcoming
events and that sort of thing, just straight info. I'd appreciate it if
you send me whole pages to just slot in where appropriate that you design
them with no javascript, frames, or scripting of any kind - just straight
and plain HTML with links - also if you could keep images to an absolute
minimum as I only have 10MB webspace with my ISP and don't intend on
moving it to a real server until it's complete enough to be the kind of
place I'd be happy to point people for more information. My 10MB should
be plenty if we can keep it to being pure text and key images only.
If you take a look at what I've got there at the moment, you'll see the
general kind of things I want. My AmigaOne page is probably about the
most complete at the moment, but I could very much do with more technical
information linked off the AmigaOne specs (most of those links I've
written about one or two lines only at present).
The general idea is that anyone of any level can look at the site.
People click on the AmigaOne link and see basic information. Techie
types say, I want to know more about xxx, and click on that link for more
tech info. Any information that is implied or suggested but not directly
stated anywhere by someone "official" should be marked as such. I know
you might mean well, but unsubstantiated rumors are NOT the intended goal
of the site. I'm going to be putting a lot of my personal time and effort
into maintaining the information and keeping it all as up to date as
possible and I'd appreciate not having to wade through mountains of rumor
and misinformation. Information regarding anything to do with Amiga is
welcomed, but no "this is better than that" without hard fact to back it
up. Presently I'm mostly interested in information on AmigaOne,
AmigaOS4, Classic Amiga (history), Amithlon and AmigaDE (Anywhere),
however if someone wants to write something about MorphOS, UAE, Pegasos,
Merlancia, pOS, Classic Amiga expansions, software issues or anything
else relevant, I won't reject it (if it's factual, unbiased and contains
useful information of course).
Also, obviously, if anyone sees anything on the page that they think is
incorrect, let me know and I'll investigate it further.
To avoid spamming these lists with ideas, please send information/pages
directly to me at either yttriumox@softhome.net or
yttrium@ihug.com.au
with "page submission" in the subject (just so I can filter for it, I get
ALOT of mail).

Poll results and consequences
First of all "Thanks" to all Amigans who participated in the poll
(Digital Almanac). Though the poll was not representative, it
has showed several directions:
About 80% of all participants have shown their interests in the
AmigaOne and Pegasos board. But most of them want to wait how the
market will develop before they decide to buy one of the boards.
Astonishing: Almost all were not sure whether to buy the AmigaOne
AmigaOne or the Pegasos, but almost all would prefer OS 4 rather
than MorphOS! That's not a miracle, as both boards have almost
identical specifikations. And Amiga has shown with the publishing
of BoingBag 2 and the specs of OS 4, that development is continuing,
while it has been quiet calm with MorphOS during the past month.
Also most participants await a higher compatibility from OS 4 to
old OS 3 instead from MorphOS.
This shows, how important it is for Amigans, that the current
existing software will run reliable under the new OS. However,
it is currently unknown, how much new software will be released
for OS 4.

DynDNS Client: AmiDynDNS v1.0 BETA
The DynDNS client AmiDynDNS is available in version 1.0 BETA, you can download it from the website (title link).
AmiDynDNS is now a CLI/Commodity hybrid program. So you can use it as before from the CLI and from the workbench with a little GUI.
The Commodity mode is interesting for server users who must know the latest host. AmiDynDNS is running in the background after startup and checks in free chooseable intervall the stated host and updates if necessary.
Also two options are added, you can choose paths for log- and configfile.
This is a public BETA so I want to ask all users to report their experiences. I am interested especially in bugs and suggestions for the final version 1.0.

VHT-DK New update of VirusZ III (v0.99)
Georg Hoermann has made an update of VirusZ III, and the bugfixed
update is now available for download at our homepage. Here is some
info about the update:
Name: VirusZ III v0.99
Archive name : VirusZ.lha
Archive size : 57.211
Date : 1 April 2002
Programmer : Georg Hoermann
Requires: AmigaOS 2.04 or better
util/libs/ReqToolsUsr.lha
util/virus/xvslibrary.lha
util/pack/xfdmaster.lha
util/arc/xadmaster.lha (recommended)
util/libs/DisLib.lha (optional)
News in VirusZ III v0.99:
- Improved window calculation code to avoid rendering bugs when you
have installed sysihack-like programs. Thanks to Harry Sintonen
for the bug report and screenshot.
- Splitted the single 'About' request in a 'Technical Info' request
and a new 'About' request and added some more information to them.
- Fixed bug: 72 bytes of memory disappeared during every program
startup, this seems to be a problem with special CreateNewProc()
tags. After two nights of debugging I still couldn't locate the
bug exactly, so I did some workaround instead, now there are at
least no more memory losses.
- Added the first vector snapshots sent by David Oakes, Ian Chapman,
Fulvio Peruggi and Harry Sintonen. Thanks guys!
- Fixed minor rendering problem with VirusZ's main window. This one
only appeared if you have modified the top_border size with tools
like MCP. Thanks to Luca Longone for the report/screenshot and
sorry for my angry email :-)
- Added full support for NSD-64-bit devices. Now the bootblocks of
partitions located higher than the old 4GB-border will finally be
accessed correctly.
- Improved disassembler output in the bootblock lab. The first three
longwords now always get displayed as 'dc.l' lines and disassembly
starts at offset $000c, the real entry point of a bootblock. This
avoids strange interpretations of the bootblock's checksum and the
two other fields.
- Added some more vector snapshots sent by Dariusz Krzempek. Thanks!

The argument NOQUIT has been added to tell YGM not to quit an already
