Game: 'Die Kleine Gilde' - further names wanted
Steffen Nitz wrotes:
I need your ideas again. This time I am looking for positive messages of the workers
like:
- Yes, Sir!
- As you like it!
- Finally good work!
- Will be done, Sir!
- Your wish is my order!
and I am looking for negative messages like:
- Not already again!
- Is there not somebody else who can do this?
- I am fed up with this!
- No, I will not do this!
This one who will send me the most good sentences will get a keyfile of the Gilde or
of SN-Münzarchiv as well as an entry in the credits.
The game principle
This game is a round based economy simulation which takes place in the Middle Ages
(1400 until 1600). Furthermore it is also a realtime strategy game with elements of
role games and it is a simulation of the life.

USB Stack: Poseidon Update V2.1
There's a new update of the Poseidon USB Stack. It consists mainly of improvements and bugfixes of the Mass Storage Class, for Highway as well as Subway drivers. Through this a whole lot more pieces of equipment should run, which had formerly balked.
Newly come is a program for USB-Radios from D-Link, respectively GemTek. One can purchase these very cheaply on eBay, because it was put together in a friendly manner it was just a few hours work to create the drivers.
A bit more was invested in the new program for the management of my MP3 Player (Valencia MPX), which was available for purchase at Lidl in December 2002. This (and many similarly built units) are unfortunately not MSD equipment. With the Uproar tool this MP3 player may nonetheless be conveniently used. In case anyone else has such a gadget, I'd be very appreciative to hear some feedback.
This time there are two separate archives, for classic Amiga as well as MorphOS systems -- this allows simple installation.
That's just an intro, further details may be found in the ReadMe. (ps) (Translation: dm)

Amiforce: Snapshots of Aquarium and Port Royal
Telemar Rosenberger, known to many for his software "AmHuhn," has authored a screen saver
named "Aquarium" and a game named "Port Royal," with the help of the multimedia authoring system
Hollywood. Under the title link you'll find the first screenshots
for both of these programs. The programs will be published as soon as the
announced Hollywood
Version 1.5 is out.
The deal with Aquarium is that it's a screen saver with images of swimming fish, already known from other
platforms. Now AmigaOS too gets the enjoyment of this pleasing screen saver.
Port Royal is a new combat game, which is about ships firing cannons. With this one may, for example, calculate wind
direction in directing a strike, and naturally the enemy ships shoot back. (ps) (Translation: dm)

The council followed with this decission a claim of the 1st municipal

which use mostly office applications should be changed to the new software.

AROS: Status Report May 2003
Another whole month has gone by, which means that it's definitely time for another status update. Doh, why do have all the status updates to begin like that? :) I'd like to thank all the people who showed interest in AROS in the last months, and there have been a lot! Anyway, let's not wait longer, here are the juicy bits, in this relatively uneventful month...
Hardware
Johan Grip received the Pegasos board at the end of April, installed Debian GNU/Linux on it, and started working on the hosted AROS port. However he was no longer able to continue for personal reasons, so he sent the board to Michal Schulz, another talented hardware hacker.
In the meantime, Michal, who already had a PPC PReP board, worked on the native PPC port. He merged his sources in the AROS CVS tree, creating the new 'arch/ppc' directory. To this day, he went as far as implementing task handling and scheduling. Congratulations Michal! Sources as well as a PReP boot image can be found at http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~misc/AROS.ppc.tar.bz2
Michal is also reworking exec.library to make it hardware/platform-independent, by moving dependent stuff in resources like kernel.resource, OpenFirmware.resource...
Build system
No fundamental changes to this sometimes hated system, but lots and lots of little bug fixes and improvements by almost every active AROS Team member in tools, config files, makefiles... So much activity caused quite a few broken nightly builds, but it seems now stabilized.
Also the newer gcc 3.3 that got installed on the build machine led to some problems, but nothing that couldn't be handled.
We now use bzip2 instead of gzip, and a custom, simpler package format than tar to create the AROS floppy and squeeze every possible byte. In the quest to more space, some less useful programs were removed from floppy. Thanks to Adam Chodorowski for the cleanup and optimizations!
i386-pc Installation
The installer for the i386 native port, install-i386-pc, is currently broken, but a graphical bootsector installer is in work, as well as a bootmenu editor, courtesy of Sebastian Heutling, who also still works on the HDToolBox partition editor.
User Interface
Adam Chodorowski began to work on the Zune custom class PreferencesWindow.mcc which implements the AROS standard prefs window buttons and look.
Paul Smith continued his huge work on the next iteration of Wanderer and the underlying desktop.library. It draws icons, and different views are possible (large icons, small icons, details).
Fabio Alemagna added horizontal and vertical color gradients to Zune images. Take a look at the obligatory screenshot!
By default, the Boot Shell is now closed after Wanderer is started. To open a new shell, use the Wanderer/Shell menu item, or use Amiga-W shortcut (Amiga key is the right Win key on pc105 keyboards)
Localizations
Thanks to Olivier Adam for his French translation of dos.library catalog, and to Paulo Silva for the Portuguese keyboard description (which Georg Steger implemented).
Miscellaneous
Some miscellaneous things that have happened:
- Staf Verhaegen continued to work on diskfont.library.
- Stefan Berger worked hard on ports of gtlayout.library and term 4.7, which can be found in contrib.
- Adam Chodorowski imported AHI 5.8 in AROS CVS, following Martin Blom's release of the AROS port.
- Georg Steger worked on the unix hosted kernel to allow nesting supervisor, so that signals occuring during a signal handler execution are not ignored. It should improve the stability of the serial device.
- and of course, lots of fixes here and there by many developers: for a rough idea, already more than 350 CVS commits this month (although we won't beat the record of 890 last month, according to the AROS-CVS mailing list archive).
Documentation
AROS documentation, in source and HTML-rendered form, is now available on the download page.
Web
Randy Vice set up an AROS support site, TeamAROS, at http://thenostromo.com/teamaros/.
Be sure to check their bounty program if you want to sponsor AROS development.

Amiga Society: Update of Little Book and Schlachtfeld News
There are some updates for the Little Book available - short entries about games like Dune II or Celtic Legends.
For the fans of Schlachtfeld there are the following news: There
is meanwhile an Alpha9-Version - this runs among other things also
under UAE. Some systems, as for instance the A4000 from Horst Diebel
want to get along however not so completely with it. On the computers,
on which the play runs, one can select, against an opponent advance
its team and supply oneself with the opponent of engagements. At
present there are however still problems with aiming accuracy and the
shots generally - Christian works however on these problems. It gave
already large progress and moves the end of the alpha phase within
easy reach.

Die Kleine Gilde v0.2
Die Kleine Gilde (The Little Guild) V0.2 is available as of now on Steffen Nitz' homepage.
Changes in version 0.2
- Added 8 computer players
- Fixed bugs
- Other changes I don't want to go into right now
- The game is now shareware (10 Euro), though the price may still change
The future gaming principle
The game is a round based economic simulation set in the Middle Ages from 1400 through 1600.
Furthermore it is also a realtime strategy game and a lifecycle simulation. The fascinating thing about "Die Kleine Gilde" is that you can and have to found a whole family dynasty if you don't want to stop playing after the death of your character but rather continue playing with one of your children.
You are a merchant who in the beginning takes on one of the starting trades, as there are: blacksmith, carpenter, stonemason, alchimist, perfumer, innkeeper, thief or preacher. When you have snatched up a little money you can also change trades, e.g. to become a money lender or choose one of the other starting trades. In addition you can run for office on country level, at the town council, the Church, as town civil servant, town myrmidon or informant.

Tao: intent 2 raring to go
In a comment to the article "Amiga DE a Good Idea, Poor
Execution" in the forum of the American news service amiga.org, Francis Charig, CEO of Tao, announced intent2 and clarified a couple of points. Please read Charig's full comment below:
"We will be announcing the launch of 'intent 2' in June. I can't say too much about it here as this is a public forum so please forgive me and remain patient through the next few weeks.
A few comments....
intent is a software platform targeted at resolving fundamental commercial issues faced by network operators, OEMs, ODMs, applications developers and content creators. We have been building a series of technologies in areas such as AV, Java and various new components and tools that get announced during June. To be able to provide a solution that meets the market's expectations, we have been working on threading them together so that we have a true platform. You'll find that we've been extremely successful in achieving this. The previous ADK and SDKs weren't good enough to enhance our reputation but that should shortly change.
During the last year-and-a-half we have had strong support from the OCPA which ratified the intent core APIs as its standard last year. Membership includes Sega, Konami, Bandai, Capcom, Taito, Qualcomm, TI, Motorola, Intel, Hitachi, Sony, Fujitsu, Pioneer, Epson, Kyocera, JVC, Sharp and Toyota, and so forth. Products on the market or being developed by Philips, Sony, Kyocera and many others supporting devices (DVCs, remote controls, home servers, PVRs, phones, PDAs....) incorporating MIPS, X86, PowerPC, ARM, SH, Embedded Linux, Smartphone, Pocket PC, iTRON, Symbian, VxWorks, the native intent RTOS show the unique breadth of the product as we had promised. We're getting traction from all of the targeted markets of our business.
Comments in the thread about Java support relates to the desktop where memory constraints and other factors make those solutions inappropriate for the kind of devices we are focussed on. In our area, intent is massively outperforming the capabilities of any alternative. Consequently we have been rapidly gaining network operator support.
However, while the Java language is an important part of the platform (I cannot understand comments in this thread that indicate Java has failed or doesn't have momentum), Java cannot be the entire platform because of its many limitations and the ability to transmit to networked devices fun content written in any language including scripting languages is important if we are to talk about truly open platforms.
I don't remember having had a single cross word with Bill McEwen since we began our Amiga relationship. We still see Amiga as an important potential contributor of content and other areas of value-add and we have made introductions of Amiga to various blue chip partners or customers of ours including some in the last few weeks. However, remember that intent has not been developed to be a replacement o/s for the desktop but nor have we ever claimed that it was. We have been entirely consistent in our aims and Tao, and we're making strong progress.
All the best
Francis Charig" (nba) (Translation: cb)

Milestone 1 of Jazilla released
After the appeal incl. fund-raising campaign initiated by DiscreetFX for porting the Web browser Mozilla for the Amiga, the works on various porting projects are apparently picking up speed.
Thus a first alpha version of Jazilla has been presented, requiring Java however, but which might in the mid-term be compatible with AmigaOS 4
and MorphOS, if these will fully support Java.
Significant features of Jazilla:
- chrome:// support
- JavaScript implemented for the GUI thanks to the Mozilla.org Rhino engine. HTML Scripting coming.
- GUI in part, uses XUL and W3C DOM
- Written in 100% Java
- Open Source
- Uses the NetBrowser renderer, which is actually based on Jazilla-classic work.

The Legacy: The games museum with rating possibility
The Legacy is a games museum for C64, Amiga, Atari, PC, Schneider/Amstrad
CPC that provides the readers with screenshots, covers scans and information about the developers. Today they integrated the possibility to rate single games. Read now the original (German) announcement:
"Manche Sachen sind ganz einfach und dauern trotzdem ewig lange, bevor sie
realisiert sind. Dass es eine Bewertung der Spiele durch die Besucher geben
soll, das wird wohl schon fast seit einem Jahr versprochen. Heute war nun der
Tag, an dem ich es einfach einmal umgesetzt habe. War auch garnicht schlimm...
Auf jeden Fall habt ihr nun die Möglichkeit, pro Game genau einmal eure
Bewertung abzugeben. Achso, die Funktion der Bewertung steht nur
registrierten Mitgliedern offen."

Stiftung Warentest: 0190 numbers - search engine shows netprovider
Stiftung Warentest reports in this article about a
search engine
in the Internet that is supposed to give information about which 0190 number belongs to which provider. This is an offer of the German "Regulierungsbehörde für Telekommunikation und Post". The search engine is active since Wednesday. Unfortunately it shows only the net provider of the calling number, therefore it's still complicated to search the people in the background behind the numbers. This search engine is a correct but only a first step in the fight against the unscrupulous dialer money makers.

Following the title link you will find a new launched homepage for the Amiga clone Access by Index Information LDT. As there are several Access boards circulating but without an official place to turn to have all available data been collected and a forum has been installed. This can be used to exchange experiences and possibly to remove problems or to answer questions.
As there's only a small number of boards spread throughout the world is the page been held in the international comprehensible English. In the forum itself you may of course write in other languages, too.

Weekly Q&A's with Fleecy Moss - episode 11
The English online magazine AmigaWorld has published episode 11 of the regular questions and answers session with Fleecy Moss, CTO at AMIGA, Inc. (Update 2012-03-17, cg: as the original document is no longer available, the following content was moved into our database):
1) Temal: Are there any plans on trying to get companies back to the platform, such as Newtek? Is there any chance that Avid (video-editing) could be a reality on Amiga? (AmigaOS 4.x and forward) =)
Fleecy: As I have said previously, big companies want to see commercial viability OR a wheelbarrow full of cash before they are going to go to the effort of porting to a new platform. A few non Amiga companies have contacted us to find out about progress and plans and we have an internal list of companies we will contact. However, you often only get one chance with these companies so we want to make sure we have something compelling to show them when we do get through the door.
With regards to video applications, we intend to make a big play in the video market but this requires the implementation of the AG2 foundation for this to be a success. We already have one company that has contacted us with an interest in video editing and we will hopefully have more following them. In the end, we have to make the platform attractive for video editing development in order to attract those developers.
2) Ramon: Since there seems to be hardly or no audio people left at Amiga's main staff, can you convince us that audio development is being done and that the Amiga's audio system/engine will (perhaps after 4.0?) be at a high standard and be used for professional audio computing? High quality, flexible, plug-in capable, etc.
Fleecy: The Amiga AG2 audio solution is being designed by people who have a long history in professional audio application development. Its design has been evolving over the past year and will form the foundation for a big assault on the audio market over the next 12-24 months. We have been keeping an eye on the new MacOS 10.2 audio system and we are more than happy that we have a solution which will give it a run for its money. It is unlikely to be in AmigaOS4.0 but elements of it will start to appear from AmigaOS4.1 onwards.
3) DaveP: Can you tell us if the Auction sale at your old offices of Amiga equipment is on behalf of Amiga Inc? Also, related, does this imply that Amiga Inc is in severe financial difficulties?
Fleecy: No it is not on behalf of Amiga Inc. We have had a situation with our landlord for quite some time now. We have been trying to resolve it but the landlord, within his rights under the lease agreement has opted for this course of action. We haven't been in the office for quite some time and all of our work machines were moved out months ago. To counter the rumours being spread, even if there was valuable data and/or IP there, we have the right to remove/delete it before any auction can take place. All that can be sold are office furniture, fixtures and hardware. This amounts to some three year old wall dividers, desks, chairs, lamps, one or two old printers, some filing cabinets etc. People who think there will be reams of records, prototypes, CDs full of source code and other such goodies will be sorely disappointed. There is still some personal and private stuff in there as well and that has to be returned to the owners; for example I have a car full worth of CDs, clothes and kids toys.
I am not in contact with the landlord so I do not know why he decided to take this course of action. It has no effect on our operations however.
As for our financial situation, we are a private company and such information is not for public distribution. Amiga Anywhere products are in the shops, AmigaOnes are in the hands of Amigans and AmigaOS4 is getting closer and closer to release, with a Roadshow in Europe starting next month. As with anyone else, you'll have to draw your own conclusions. Given the current interest in some quarters to all matters legal, if we were bankrupt (as has been claimed by several people with a vested interest in our demise over the past 12 months) then that data would be available in the public domain as a bankruptcy filing. It isn't and we aren't. Things have been difficult, no one will deny that but we are starting to put that behind us now.
4) hnl_dk: How much control does Amiga Inc. have over the Amiga Anywhere Content Engine? Do you have total control - may you change the code, or may you 'only' add extra features?
Fleecy: AACE is our product so we have total control over it. Yes, as with any AmigaDE derivative, it uses the Tao-Group's Intent product as a foundation but if there are features missing then we add them. We are not tied to using all of Intent. We just use the bits we want and if we require a different solution for something that already exists within Intent then we would replace what it provides with our own solution.
5) IonMane: Is Amiga Inc. willing to return to the negotiation table with Genesi in an attempt to help them provide their own AmigaOne solution that is equitable for all parties, and to try to heal the divide that has caused so much strife within the Amiga community?
Fleecy: There is nothing to negotiate. Amiga Inc currently has two product lines, the AmigaOS and the AmigaDE. If a third party wishes to use or licence these then they should contact us and they will be given the same deal as anyone else. That third party will then have to meet the same criteria as every other third party in terms of sales, marketing and support in order to guarantee a quality Amiga certified product reaches the consumer.
AmigaOne is a brand name that is exclusively licenced to Eyetech Ltd so Genesi or any other third party cannot use it without either agreement from Eyetech or via building a system using the AmigaOne boards. If Genesi wishes to build systems using AmigaOne boards then they should email sales@eyetech.co.uk. I'm sure Eyetech would be delighted to add them to the AmigaOne IHV family.
From my limited understanding of the issue, and from an article on OSNews a few weeks ago, it appears that Genesi is trying to create its own platform and Mr Buck has stated that he has no interest in Amiga product, trademarks, or IP. If that is the case then your question makes no sense. The strife within the Amiga community has come about because of rumours being spread that there will be no new AmigaOS and the suggestions that people should move to another product. With AmigaOS4.0 nearing completion, AmigaOne computers on sale, and an AmigaOS4.0 roadshow, we are advancing the platform, which is what the community wants and demands. We are obviously distressed if people believed those rumours, purchased alternative product and now feel cheated but they should be contacting those who spread those rumours, asking them to explain themselves and investigating possible reparative actions. We announced AmigaOS4.0 a long time ago and whilst it has taken a lot longer than we expected or indeed wanted, we have never given any indication other than AmigaOS4.0 would be released.
6) IonMane: Follow up questions: BBRV has expressed that the licensing fee's are too high among other things. What compromises in this, or any other area would you be willing to make? What concessions would you expect in return for these compromises?
Fleecy: If Mr Buck wishes to make a business case for co-operation then he should do what any other professional business person would do; create a proposal and contact us to discuss it. If it makes financial and business sense then there is no reason why it should not proceed.
7) Treke: When the SDK 2.0 will be released. What hinders the release ?
Fleecy: We have been waiting for Intent 1.4 before releasing a new SDK. Obviously we can't release an SDK until the AmigaDE (and by implication the Intent foundation) is stable, which requires access to and testing of it. Once we get it, we have to move all of our code to it, test it, roll it out to the SDAs to get feedback and then we can build the SDK for public release.
8) Bob.C : Is there any updated news about applications that will be ready for A1/OS4? For example a word processor, paint or video application?
Fleecy: As I have said before, if the Amiga is to become the first use computer, it has to address 90% of the needs of the digital family. This includes a word processor amongst other things and we will taking internal action in regards to this. As for other applications, such as Paint and Video applications, we are in contact with both those who have such products already for the Amiga and those who have them on other platforms and who are considering a port. However I would draw your attention again to point 1 in this regard.
As for announcements, that is of course upto the third parties themselves and most are waiting until they have had a good play with AmigaOS4 on PPC since they want to get a good idea of what it will take to move over to the new platform. All I can really say is that we are of course working hard to get revised and new applications for the platform.
9) Gregs: My question: is whether there will be initial OS4 support for one or a number of Digital TV/Satellite etc., DVB (the US version is different) cards?
Fleecy: Not from Amiga itself, no. There is a lot to do and only so many resources with which to do it.
10) alx: Who will design the default theme(s) that OS4 comes with?
Fleecy: A well known and respected AmigaOS and AmigaDE developer. I am not giving his/her name out because they will then have to spend so many hours reading the emails of people who want to ask for this, that and the other that they will never get any work done.

Woof3D: New Crossplatform-3D-API
Woof3D is a shared library for Amiga, Windows95 and Linux x86.
It offers a very SIMPLE way to create 3D program in C.
So Woof 3D is a graphic engine mainly a 3D engine for texturing
3D polygons much more like 3D cards. It evolved a lot from its
starting in May 2000 and now offers high level and low level
functions for 3D and 2D graphics.
Why an other 3D engine ?
- Cause Woof3D is very SIMPLE to program. You don't need to know
anything about the supported OS
- Cause Woof3D offer true cross platforming with Linux X86,
Windows95, AmigaOS 68K versions (one C source for all).
- Cause Woof3D offer high level functions like direct Vscape
or Caligari files handling.
- Cause Woof3D also offer basic 2D and 3D primitives that allow
to program lots of simple graphics softwares like OS-friendly games.
- Cause beginners in C language don't have to know about pointers
or dereferencing to use Woof3D
Supported platforms
- PC x86 with Windows95 and DirectDraw (2D hardware acceleration)
- Amiga 68k with AmigaOS 3.0-3.9 and Cybergraphics/Picasso96
(2D hardware acceleration ) or any computer emulating an
Amiga the same way (with WinUAE, DosUAE, etc.)
- Amiga 68k with AmigaOS 3.0-3.9 and a Warp3D 3D card (3D hardware
acceleration )
- PC x86 with Linux and Xwindow (2D hardware acceleration)

2Decide: A 2D strategy game using themes
In case you are missing all the great recent uploads to Aminet;
Joar Berntsen would like to inform you of the freeware
game "2Decide" that has the ability to dress itself up with
various theme packages.
All units, all structures, and most gfx can be changed. In
addition, new campaigns can easily be created, with the
inline map editor, on any of the current 5 themes that
are available.
It is a game somewhat similar to Empire-'Wargame of the
century' but uses 256 colors and AGA effects, and all
ingame units are affected by cheerfull morale features.
Have a look at the readme file from the Aminet for slightly more info.
Don't be afraid to fool around with the theme features of
this game. It won't crash or anything from doing that.
I am not some distant being on another planet,
so please mail me if there is anything!

Pegasos: Independent Review by OSNews.com
Eugenia Loli Queru of OSNews.com made an independent Pegasos-Review. As a not Amiga user her judgement precipitates naturally very
critically over the MorphOS which is still in an early development stage. However when talking about the possibility to
use the hardware with various Linux distributions and MacOS her judgement is more positively. Among other things
she guesses to Genesi, to mark out the Pegasos as the Linux platform, because nevertheless x86 boards belong in last consequence to
Microsoft.
In its associated comment Raquel Velasco and Bill Buck of Genesi suggest that one can
regard the "M" standing in MorphOS calmly also as for "mobility", this
is the next step.

please refer to CHANGELOG, included in archives. Remember to get codecs

The Amiga Club Augsburg will present the newest member of our Amiga family, the Amiga One. The Amiga One Systems are currently delivered with Debian Linux PPC installed. The presentaton machines have a G4 PPC processor with 800MHz. (We might have a surprise for you ;)
Algor (world premiere)
E3B will present its brandnew Zorro USB Controller Algor, as well as an update possibility to Highway by the name of Romulus. You will be able to talk face to face with Michael Boehmer, he is the hardware developer of the USB boards Algor, Highway, Subway and of the ethernet board Norway. If you need some advise, this is the right place and guy to ask ;). The scope of delivery of all USB boards from E3B contains a full version of Poseidon. Poseidon is developed by Chris Hodges in teamwork with E3B. The newest version of Poseidon will be presented together with Algor and Michael will be pleased to answer all your questions. If you want to test your USB devices together with an E3B USB controller, you are welcome to do so. At the show we will give you the possibility to purchase the E3B USB boards.
C-One (world premiere)
The C-One is a multiple faster than the C64 and has standard interfaces (PS/2-Mouseport, PS/2-Keyboard, Parallel-Port) to communicate with the outside world. PCI slots allow the use of todays PCI-cards, but also the periphery of the C64 is supported, as well as the clockport expansions modules of the Amiga 1200 will work in the C-One.
But the C-One is more: It is reconfigurable and thereby the first of its kind. The used techniques allows changing the hardware by means of simply exchanging a file. Jens Schönfeld will give an explicit, free of charge seminar on the C-One and will explain all the C-One functions. Jens will also answer all questions related to the other products from individual Computers. The products of individual Computers can be bought at the show.
Further information and details can be found under the title link.

MMKeyboard sale of hardware discontinued
Due to rapidly decreasing hardware orders production of the MMKeyboard adapter is being discontinued. Support for MMKeyboard will of course continue. I just stop production of the hardware because it just isn't feasible to do in such small numbers. As the sale had always been done at cost I'd have to increase the price of the adapter quite drastically in order to get out of it without loss. Furthermore I just don't see myself in a position to produce the hardware within a desirable timeframe.
Everyone still has the choice to build the hardware themselves, which used to be done by quite a number of users. Maybe by way of this announcement someone can be found to produce adapters for technically less versed Amiga users. Instructions for this can be found under the title link.

Weekly Q&A's with Fleecy Moss - episode 10
The English online magazine AmigaWorld has published episode 10 of the regular questions and answers session with Fleecy Moss, CTO at AMIGA, Inc. (Update 2012-03-17, cg: as the original document is no longer available, the following content was moved into our database):
1) trgse: Something the Amiga has lacked since its early days is POSIX compliance or a good full POSIX emulation layer. (ixemul not being very amiga like and lacking fork, how does Amiga see this.... Will it be resolved under OS 4.x, if so how? does/will OS 5.x/DE have any POSIX compliance
Fleecy: There is already a project under way within the AmigaOS4 development team to increase POSIX compliance within the platform. Elements of this. most notably a threading solution will hopefully be in place for AmigaOS4.0.
2) ikir: What do you think of the Coldfire Accelerator Project? Could we have a Coldfire version of OS4.x in the future? With a 200+ MHz coldfire, many people would probably want OS4 for these machines. What is your stance on this?
Fleecy: AmigaOS4 for the desktop is a PPC product and that is what we will be supporting.
3) alx: What is the reasoning behind A inc not releasing the old 1.x ROM images? They would be useful for many people, would provide an indication of goodwill and wouldn't run any recent s/w like the "current" 3.x series.
Fleecy: We are investigating this and are looking at both providing a distinct product with these pieces on it as well as having them all on the AmigaOS4.0 CD.
4) Tigger: Where you unaware of what Bill McEwen was going to say in the Bolten Peck case about not being the CEO, or were you intentionally misleading the Amiga Community with your post that Bill McEwen was still the CEO??
Fleecy: Bill McEwen is still CEO. He was CEO before I posted that statement, he was the CEO when I posted that statement and is the CEO today as I type this answer to you. I have no comments to make about any on going lawsuits.
5) Hondo_DK: Does Amiga have any upcoming plans for their website. I mean if Amiga is to launch OS4 to an unexpecting amazed world, then you're website would probably be facing a run over by zillions of surfers from everywhere in the computer business. When seeing the present Amiga site, many would perhaps turn away because of the lack of a design roadmap. Do you have any plan to prepare yourself before the launch of OS4.
Fleecy: We are very aware that the Amiga web presence needs updating. This is being done one site at a time with the new Amiga Power Platform website under construction as we speak and due to be opened to the public before AmigaOS4.0 goes on sale.
6) KingTutt: If a clear and steady level of growth is reached, and a sizable userbase pushes sales akin to the first year of these next-gen consoles. Would Amiga Inc consider bringing into the fold some past Amiga game developers in an effort to resurrect some past game legends ala the great Turrican series? And if so, how do you see Amiga Inc playing an instrumental role in bringing back past hits.
Fleecy: We do intend to do this but usually you only get one shot at trying to convince people to come back to a platform and so we don't want to do this until the platform supports a market large enough to provide a substantial financial element to the overall decision. If the userbase does get to that size, we'd be very happy. As an aside I should mention that we have had such developers spontaneously contacting us to enquire about coming back to the platform and discussions are ongoing.
7) KingTutt: Do you believe its important for Amiga as a possible future gaming platform, to stand by its own creations & merits, distinguishable from the rest or should it rely on ported titles from other systems?
Fleecy: Porting of product has a definite place, especially for a small market where the cost of developing a new product from scratch is substantial. However we would very much like to see unique content on the Amiga and will be working towards that end. It has to be said that if someone wrote an amazing game on the Amiga, the developer would most likely want to look at porting it to other platforms anyway so perhaps the best we can hope for in the short term is ports, the medium term is content on our platform first and then ported followed by unique content only on our platform as the market size increases.
In the end the only way to guarantee unique content is to have features and capabilities on the platform that do not exist and more, cannot be replicated on another platform but with hardware commoditisation, that is increasingly difficult.
8) Deniil715: I was wondering if the TCP/IP-stack of OS4 will support IPv6?? And if it will not, will it atleast support DHCP IP-timeout and refresh so that it can be used on a network with a DHCP-server which put a timeout on the IP-address and hence withdraw it after the timeout if the TCP/IP-stack doesn't refresh it.
Fleecy: DHCP is in (the whole package, not just the fringe features), IPv6 is not. Given our current resources and feature lists for AmigaOS4, IPv6 is down near the bottom of the list but as the project advances, features above it will be crossed off and we will of course continually review the situation.
9) ssolie: Have you given any thought to utilizing open source development, either as a source baseline or as a development model, to speed delivery of various AmigaOS services?
Fleecy: We have considered it and may dabble in it on the fringes but as a commercial company we have a need to develop IP and to provide a return on it to our investors. If we were developing another UNIX wannabe, same old same old product then it would have more appeal but we are into developing something unique and in making money out of it.
10) catohagen: If i dont remember wrong, there was something called PREXX, what is it and is it still planned ?
Fleecy: I have asked a few people, most of whom returned a blank expression. One person believes it may have been something that Haage and Partner were talking about but there is certainly nothing of that name in AmigaOS4.0

New and updated software by OnyxSoft
The Swedish shareware developers group OnyxSoft has released two new tools and updated some tools.
FileComp (v1.0) is a small utility that allows a fast comparison of two files regarding their size, their content, their date and other criteria.
Snakee (v0.1) is the first attempt of OnyxSoft to lead two worlds to each other instead of divide them even further into good and evil. Snakee is a simple Snake clone that is thought to serve as a simple tutorial how you can support AmigaOS as well as MorphOS. The executable files for both systems are included as well as the source code.
BackUp is a simple tool to backup data. New in the version 1.4 are automatic backups, timing handling, simulated backups for test modi, new message handling and many more functions.
DRemind is a useful tool to remind one of dates and other information. The new version 1.65 comes among other things with improvements of the reminder function and the date display.
GummiSurf is an expansion for the download manager Charon. In version 1.1 has the tooltype support for own preferences been added and the URL handling has been optimized.

Memory card reader for IDE / Standalone media player
At Hama I discovered today a memory card reader/writer for the IDE port. This one needs no additional software to run. It's just treated as a hard disk and it's much cheaper than the reader PCD47 for SCSI-II. The device costs 69,99 Euro.
Furthermore I discovered a standalone media player at Hama that can read without a computer digital photos in the JPG format, Mpeg1 movies and Mp3 sound via the A/V output. For this it can read six different memory card types (CF I + II, SM, SD, MMC). With a remote control you can then display movies or display pictures of your holidays. Besides that you can play your Mp3 data.

LowLevel gameport driver v41.21 is online
Guido Mersmann has created a new version of his lowlevel.library gameport driver that contains the following changes and fixes:
- FEATURE: New graphical gamepad buttons in the GUI.
- BUGFIX: reworked timeout mechanism (works more stable at high CPU load).
- FEATURE: several gamepad controller profiles in the settings added leading to a much easier choosing and setting.
- FEATURE: From now on you can calibrate a gamepad in the settings. If you then fix the settings you can save them now so that you do not need to calibrate them later again.
- BUGFIX: Warning requester added when especially under Amithlon a gameport address is used that is non-standard. This should help to avoid crashes if one sets completely wrong addresses.
- FEATURE: The tool GamePortEnable now only shows the offset as the exact address for IO hardware can't be detected because of an API problem of the OpenPCI library. Please use with non-Amithlon systems the tool GamePortFind, on Amithlon systems you only ghave to add the address $00EE0xxx to the found offset (xxx stands for the returned offset value!).
- BUGFIX: Bug in the calibrating routine fixed. The function with 1-axis gamepads has additionally been improved.

Amiga.sf ports - hotwayd v0.5.3
Ever wanted to access your hotmail[tm] emails
without having to battle with the web interface? This is now possible using hotwayd
in conjunction with your favourite POP-3 implementing mail reader. Hotwayd allows
you to do this by using the HTTPMail protocol, the same protocol that Outlook
Express[tm] uses, to access the hotmail servers. Hotwayd acts as a proxy between your
POP mail reader and the HTTPMail hotmail servers. Simply set it up as an Internet
service on your machine or another machine on your network and enjoy using your
favourite mail client via the POP-3 protocol to collect your hotmail emails.
Download: hotwayd-0.5.3.lha
Textviewer: EvenMore - several plugin updates
- 17/5/03 - Updated Troff plugin. Will now skip macro sequences.
Fixed bug where if some commands were in different cases, the
plugin might not have recognised them, .br and .BR, .IP and .Ip.
Now skips comments beginning with '''. Should now detect style
changes in strings using \, eg. \fI, \fR, \*(L", \*(R", etc.
- 16/5/03 - Fixed a bug in the RTF plugin where it could skip two
lines instead of one during wordwrap.
- 15/5/03 - Fixed bug in which RTF plugin could not handle colour
tables which didn't end in ";".
LouiSe's MorphOS-Ports
20030515 - New MorphOS ports uploaded:
apache-1.3.24 with php-4.3.1 (WEB server with PHP support)

ncftp-3.1.5 (ftp client)
New MUI classes
- 16.05.03 · Bugfixed MCC_SpeedBar
MCC_SpeedBar updated, and now SpeedBarCfg.mcc is fixed. Only program I know
that it failed on is Voodoo-X, but there might have been others. Fixed, anyway :)
Thanks must go to Kev Harrison for mailing Alfie about it so quickly. He also
mailed me, but the fix was out before the info made it to the page. BTW,
CManager 24.1 on his site also...
Regards,
Jocke 'Zerohero' Sjöblom
- 15.05.03 · Even more MCC_SpeedBar & MCC_Urltext
MCC_SpeedBar bumped to v19.0, now, before you start to mail me that this
archive is broken, I know it is, but it's only some code examples, the
real classes are still ok. MCC_Urltext v18.9 archive is ok, though :)
On Alfie's site also MCC_BWin is supposed to be v20.5, but the archive
only includes v20.3. If you download Contact Manager 24.0 you'll get
MCC_BWin v20.5 included, and also get a great update of CManager :)
Oh, and Alfie, keep keeping me busy :)

Amiga Arena: Interview with Elena Novaretti (ZoneXplorer)
A few weeks ago released the 30 years old Italian Elena Novaretti
for the first time the tool "ZoneXplorer" for AmigaOS (68k) and MorphOS (PPC).
"ZoneXplorer" is a useful tool to create and search fractals that certainly is unique on the Amiga.
The possibilities to create unique fractal pictures in 24 bit speak for themselves. One or the other may know the images by Elena Novaretti as they were shown at the Amiga fair "Pianeta 2002". In the interview with the Amiga Arena Elena Novaretti talks about her career and of course about her program "ZoneXplorer" and about her view regarding the future of AmigaOS and MorphOS respectively where the differences lay.
Enjoy the comprehensive and interesting interview that is available in German and English.

AtheneOS by Rocklyte: AthenYX
The alternative operating system Athene by Rocklyte Systems has been released as standalone OS. It's called AthenYX and it is related to AmigaOS among other things as it comes, if desired, with a graphical user interface (GUI) that bases on Amiga Workbench 3.0: the OmegaWorkbench.
Athene is an operating system that allows the user to create an own GUI where it is possible to emulate almost every existing GUI system. Athene supports draggable screens, assigns and there's an approach for a file manager in the way of Diskmaster/DOpus.
Athene itself is easy to port (embedded systems, games consoles, PCs), object oriented and comes among other things with several scripting languages.

Amiga Forever v5.2 is now shipping
Amiga Forever 5.2 is now shipping. It is available in a CD-ROM,
CD-ROM Upgrade, Online Edition, Online Upgrade and Cross-Platform
Online Edition.
Amiga Forever contains state of the art software to satisfy two
major needs of many Amiga users: to use their existing Amiga
software and data on non-Amiga hardware, and to share data between
Amiga and other systems. Additionally, software, tutorial and
reference files which are likely to be of interest to any
Amiga enthusiast are included.
Features include:
- Just-in-time version of emulation software (Bernd Meyer's JIT code), carefully configured and publicly benchmarked by Cloanto to be 30 times faster than in previous versions of Amiga Forever. The Amiga runs in a window or in full screen mode, makes full use of thousands of Windows (or other OS) drivers, can access PC files (even on NTFS partitions, in the Windows version) and does not require a reboot.
- Software Manager, an advanced content delivery system developed by Cloanto, for easy and privacy-conscious management of all emulation-related components (updates, downloads, news, etc.)
- Amiga Explorer software, which allows you to connect an Amiga to one or more PCs, and access Amiga files (including virtual ADF and ROM files), directories and volumes directly from the Windows Desktop. Amiga Explorer is easier to install and configure than other networking tools, and includes direct support for serial (null-modem) cable connections, as well as TCP/IP.
- MenuBox launcher, to boot different Amiga configurations with one mouse click, either from CD-ROM (no installation or reboot required) or after installation
- New and fully licensed Picasso96 software (not a shareware version), maps Amiga graphics requests directly to fast x86 calls and powerful low-level DirectX functions (Windows version of emulation)
- Amiga Narrator and Translator speech synthesis components (made available for distribution with the Amiga OS for the first time since 1991)
- All Amiga ROMs up to version 3.1 (the last ROM that will ever be available for the "Classic Amiga"!)*
- CDTV and CD³² boot ROMs and extended ROMs (can be used to play CDTV and CD³² games, even booting directly from CD-ROM, requires free upgrade to emulation software)*
- GlowIcons look (as used in Amiga OS "3.5", "3.9" and "XL", but also compatible with NewIcons and MagicWB)
- Option to switch entire environment from "new look" (GlowIcons) to "old look" (Classic) and vice versa
- Emulation includes: Amiga custom chips, RTG graphics, up to 512 MB of Zorro III RAM, virtual memory, TCP/IP, MIDI, native x86 code, built-in support for ADF, ADZ, DMS and FDI disk image files
- Preinstalled software includes: Personal Paint 7.1b (paint, animation and image processing software, includes GIF/LZW license), DirDiff (file synchronization and replication software), AmiToRTF (to convert texts from Amiga to Windows formats), MailBX (to convert Amiga mail archives to Microsoft Mail, Outlook Express and Exchange Server), drag-and-drop LhA, print spooler (easily print all Amiga documents under Windows, bypassing parallel port emulation), Directory Opus 5.5 (courtesy of GPSoftware), TurboText (exclusive latest version with stack problem fix), KingCON, ToolManager, ReqTools, etc.
- Latest version of WinUAE and WinFellow tested and supported by Cloanto
Disk2FDI software to read Amiga floppy disks on PC (experimental version, requires two floppy drives)
- Tutorials and FAQs on data sharing, emulation, floppy disks, serial links, TCP/IP, UAE, Fellow and much more.
- All software tested on Windows XP
- MPEG-1 videos: The Deathbed Vigil (one hour and 58 minutes, i.e. the full version of this "must have" video) and Jay Miner Speech (49 minutes)*
- Dozens of other enhancements and add-ons
* = CD-ROM version only (both standard and upgrade). The Online Edition includes 1.3 and 3.1 ROMs (sufficient both for classic games and for the most recent software). CDTV and CD³² ROMs are also included in the downloadable Amiga Forever Plus Pack. The MPEG videos are only included on the CD-ROM (both standard and upgrade). The CD-ROM contains version 5.0, with free online upgrade to version 5.2 using Software Manager (included).
The Amiga emulation software on the Amiga Forever CD-ROM comes preinstalled and preconfigured for Windows. The Amiga ROM and OS files can be used by any implementation of the Amiga emulators, including for example Unix/Linux (UAE comes with source code), Be, PowerMac, etc. These emulators are constantly updated, and can be downloaded from the sites listed in the Home Pages section of the navigation bar.
Pricing:
CD-ROM: 59.95 Euro
CD Upgrade: 34.95 Euro (nba)

from old offices of Amiga, Inc. in Snoqualmie.
According to rumours these things have been attached by the former letter of Amiga, Inc.
because of not payed rentals and should be now sold by auction.
Some times ago Amiga, Inc. announced the move but has not given any new address since
this time.
Today Gary Peake who works at Amiga, Inc. denied the romours about the liquidation
of Amiga, Inc. and told that the things which are supposed to be sold by auction
are "old stuff from the offices" which "are no longer needed".
Nevertheless for collectors of Amiga stuff the day of auction which is the 17th June 2003 might be
an interesting date where you can buy equipment for the Amiga for few money.

Pagan Games Puts New AmigaAnywhere Game in Planning
Thomas Würgler of Pagan Games writes:
As some of you have probably noticed, the Amiga Game Pack #2 has now been
released into retail stores - name CompUSA. Obviously this is a big step
towards true financial viability of Amiga Anywhere projects, which again
helps fund AmigaOS projects.
We are getting closer to finalizing another project for Amiga Anywhere,
and look forward to getting it to a state where we can show it to you.
Besides that we are still working hard on our Dreamcast shoot 'em up
project, and we can't wait to show you what we've got in the works.
Hopefully we'll be able to show some of it off before summer.
This was just a quick update, which will be followed a more thorough one,
when we have more to share - hopefully in the near future. (nba) (Translation: dm)

RIAA Withdraws Warning to amiga-scene.org
The RIAA had to withdraw their warnings to Internet sites.
In numerous instances the US-American music industry corporate group RIAA (Recording Industry Association of
America) had sent warnings against administrators of Web and FTP servers who offered MP3 data on their systems. Along with
that these administrators were notified through targetless RIAA scans of their servers who of their users made free music available.
The Demo Scene server amigascene.org was hit by this step, and was excused in a form letter that said they had offered "about 0
Music data for download." After this action became known, the RIAA now has withdrawn the warnings to falsely hit Internet sites. (nba) (Translation: dm)

CD32 Outside Shelved
After five issues the publication of the digital magazine CD32 Outside has been suspended. This decision was made in order to free up the resources of the team for more important stuff. Unfortunately there just wasn't enough time to create, publish, and do advertising and marketing for further issues.
[In the following long German text, chief editor Thorsten Schölzel offers thanks from the CD32 team to a lot of people. He talks about webdesign, some games, and Commodore politics which no-one understands. He invites readers to www.cd32-allianz.de, and says emails are welcome. -DM]
Das Team von CD32 Outside möchte sich bei allen Personen bedanken,
die ihm bei der Erstellung der CD³²Outside geholfen und mit
Material und Informationen versorgt haben. Besonders hervorheben
In diesem Sinne,
Thorsten Schölzel" (nba) (Translation: dm)

Amiga Arena: 'Layouter' full version
In cooperation and with the okay by Marius Schwarz the Amiga Arena offers a free release of the software "Layouter" for the first time.
With the program "Layouter" it is possible to layout and print your own books and fanzines.
"Layouter" covers the part to process texts, creating paragraphs for pictures and titles to print a fanzine correctly for example.
Layouter does all the work a commo text processoer can't handle sufficient.
To say it in a simple manner: You bring in the text to print and the graphics and "Layouter" creates an impressing book or magazine from that.
Another big advantage of "Layouter" is its speed for printing a book.
A detailed manual and some example projects are included within the archive. For further assistance or suggestions the developer
Marius Schwarz might be contacted.

Virus Help: New update of xvs.library
A new update of the "xvs.library' (xvs.library - The eXternal Virus
Scanner Library) has been updated today, and can be found at the
"Virus Help Team's websites". Remember, if you use the antivirus
programs like ec. VirusZ, VirusExecuter, VirusChecker, Mill this
update of XVS is a MUST for you.
Info about the new update:
Name: xvs.library v33.40
Archive name: xvslibrary.lha
Archive size: 93,637 bytes
Release date: 13 May 2003
Programmer: Georg Hoermann
News is v33.40: (Size: 61,912 bytes)
- Added file recognition for some very old installer programs of the
following bootblock viruses: Blizzard, CLI-Manager, SystemZ 5.0
and SystemZ 6.4. Thanks to Dirk Stöcker for sending the files.
- Added special recognition for "Zeeball AV-Testfile" from Zeeball's
antivirus test archive.
- Changed several often-used CacheClearU() calls to CacheClearE()
for better performance on JIT 68k emulated systems (file analysis
and repair code for polymorphic linkviruses have not been changed,
as these only get called if some patterns match first). Thanks to
Harry Sintonen for the hint.
- Fixed bug in xvsCheckFile() that accessed two bytes following the
actual file buffer under certain circumstances. Thanks must go to
Mikolaj Calusinski for the report and for beta-testing.
- Did some compatibility fixes for Pegasos/MorphOS systems. Thanks
again to Harry Sintonen for the report and for beta-testing.

At the title link an Italian language report of the Italian IT
fair "Webb.it" is to be found, which took place past weekend in
Padova. The Italian AmigaOne Distributor VirtualWorks presented there
an AmigaOne XE as well as OS4-Module (still as 68k Binaries).
On the OS4-Screenshots both already well-known OS4 parts
(MediaToolbox, new system menus) in newer versions is to be seen as well as modules that have not been shown yet. (ps) (Translation: sk)

Morph-box Version 1.0
Today the final version 1.0 of Carsten Siegner's program "Morph-box" for MorphOS has been released. This is fully functioning with clickable buttons and also includes a prefs editor. Morph-box is a toolbar for MorphOS which is able to launch MorphOS native and 68k programs.
This program is MorphOS native and thus only runs on the Pegasos computer. Furthermore it requires the PNG datatype.
Installation: Copy guigfx.library.elf (N.B.: this is the MOS version, so
don't take the version from the powerlibs.lzx directory!) to the directory "Sys:MorphOS/Libs". Furthermore the powerlibs.lzx archive from Carsten Siegner's homepage is required. This is located in the "Videokonverter" subdirectory (unpack the archive and copy to Sys:Libs directory).
The archive contains a small readme file explaining the few functions. (nba) (Translation: cb)

Weekly Q&A's with Fleecy Moss - episode 9
The English online magazine AmigaWorld has published episode 9 of the regular questions and answers session with Fleecy Moss, CTO at AMIGA, Inc. (Update 2012-03-17, cg: as the original document is no longer available, the following content was moved into our database):
1) ssolie: How does Amiga Inc. plan to limit and control the myriad hardware options. More specifically, if I purchase a "supported" graphics card for AmigaOS 4.0, what will that mean exactly? And what of "unsupported" hardware?
Fleecy: As has already started with the AmigaOne, we will select and certify hardware. This will allow us to drive the AmigaOS in certain directions whilst also ensuring that there are official solutions that dealers, integrators and customers can purchase safe in the knowledge that there will be official drivers for them. The problem with supporting hardware subsystems and peripherals is that the manufacturers only create control software
for the larger markets (Windows, Apple etc) and most are loath to even release their internal datasheets for fear of revealing and losing IP. We thus have to negotiate with these companies and prove to them a market exists (and then usually pay to create the control software).
A good workaround solution can be seen in the SciTech solution that has been licenced. A very broad set of graphics-cards will be usuable with OS 4.0 in 2D thanks to their SNAP technology (over 182 chipsets are now supported and the list keeps growing). 3D support however is quite a different matter. Currently we will support the Voodoo 3/4/5 and the Radeon 8500/9000. We believe this will change when we are able to demonstrate the AG2 3D system however as the OEMs will see that we are deadly serious in being a graphics platform of excellence.
The existing AmigaOne users have created various web resources where they are sharing their experiences of both setting up their machines and the results they are having with various components. I would urge anyone considering the purchase of a board to peruse these sites for the valuable information they contain.
In summary, I would advise customers either to buy from integrators to ensure certified components are used or else wait for the new Amiga Power Platform website to go live and consider the certified hardware list when it is made available. Be made the mistake of trying to support too many different solutions and ended up wasting valuable resources expanding the platform horizontally instead of vertically; we will not make the same mistake.
2) rayt: Will the coupons be delivered before OS4/csppc is finished so that we can get $50 rebate immediately after it is released?
Fleecy: We have had a lot of issues with creating a valid solution for the 'vouchers', mainly in terms of validation and acceptance by dealers. Given that an AmigaOne is a certified piece of hardware that comes with an AmigaOS4.0 OEM CD bundle and that the CSPPC AmigaOS4.0 product is a shrinkwrap, AmigaOS4.0 is the common factor and so we are considering either placing the voucher within the AmigaOS product package itself (perhaps as part of the registration card) or using the unique serial number of each AmigaOS4.0 instance via a web interface. This would also work with those who have purchased multiple rebate products because they have to have an AmiPASS and so we can apply their multiple rebates against a single purchase. The entire scheme will be published before AmigaOS4.0 is released and we will validate the rebate database by emailing everyone to make sure all the details are correct. I urge anyone who believes they have a rebate to check out their AmiPASS account and ensure the details are correct.
3) jono: Do you know if there is any intention to provide/supply any SQL based server or SQL clients that can access existing SQL Servers such as MySQL, Oracle, (dare I say it) M$ SQL Server?
Fleecy: There is at least one third party company already working hard on a full network capable relational database for the AmigaOS4.0. A standard SQL client is a good idea and I will consider that either for AmigaOS4.0 or for a future release.
4) IonMane: From my research, many developers do not seem to understand the potential power of Amiga Anywhere\DE.How do you plan to raise awareness and educate this segment of the industry to DE's REAL potential?
Fleecy: Early on we heavily evangelised the potential of the AmigaDE, got a lot of interest going and had developers signing up in droves. However, the potential failed to turn into reality, largely because the market was not ready for the product. Our mistake was to fail to realise that the OEMs themselves were not ready to take advantage of what we had, either because they had not entered the appropriate markets yet or because the products were too expensive (as in the case of Smartphones) or too underpowered (as in the case of the Palm PDA). The market was still in the first stage of technology, where innovators co-exist with early adopters. It is only in the last six months that the market has become a second stage market, where maturation brings in the big OEMs whose economies of scale can bring the price down and performance up.
Microsoft, as one of the key drivers of these markets realised the potential of the AmigaDE over a year ago but even working with them and their huge marketing muscle, it has taken this long to get AmigaDE derivatives such as Amiga Anywhere to market. Thankfully, the momentum that has built up is now accelerating customer enquiries and we hope to finally be able to deliver to developers on the potental we evangelised. This in itself will raise awareness of both the product and the opportunity but we are also working with these customers to do cross and joint marketing in several arenas, in both trade and consumer channels.
5) ssolie: Since you are not keen on Samba, what kinds of Samba-like solutions (e.g. file & printer sharing) are you proposing?
Fleecy: It's not that I'm not keen on Samba as a concept, just as an implementation, especially as it is difficult to implement well within the Amiga system architecture. There is a SAMBA solution supported by such Amiga notables as Olaf Barthel and Chris Hertel (amongst others) and it will most likely be included in the AmigaOS4.0 contributions drawer.
What AmigaOS4 users obviously want is the ability to network their Amiga to a heterogenous network, most likely one heavily featuring Windows or Linux PCs and then be able to share resources, mostly files, peripherals such as printers and network connections. The more they can use their Amiga, the more it will be used - for example accessing an MP3 collection on their Windows PC; they obviously don't want to copy it to their Amiga and have two copies of it.
Be assured that this is a high priority and that despite our misgivings, we may integrate SAMBA. All I was stating was that it does not currently seem to be a solution that we are happy with.
6) ssolie: AmigaDE and AmigaOS seem completely different yet you say they will slowly be merged together into a hardware agnostic system. What does that mean for the user? Hypothetically, how will I be able to take my copy of PageStream and run it on my cell phone via Bluetooth?
Fleecy: The AmigaDE is a set of technologies for creating content centric derivative products. In particular it is focused on the individual piece of content, specifically in making that piece of content both high performance/low resource and portable across device classes. The AmigaOS is a complete computing platform. In merging them, the AmigaOS will immediately gain from access to that content which can scale to the desktop. However that is at a product level. There will also be a more profound development of the AmigaOS through the AG2 project that will see a conceptual merging of the ideas behind both. I can't say much more at this time.
7) GregS: I have heard mentioned the A2 project but have not seen any details would you be so kind to make a summary of the main differences between A1 and A2.
Fleecy: AG1 refers to all hardware and software upto the AmigaOS3 family (the last revision being AmigaOS3.9). Some of this will continue into AmigaOS4. AG1 is technology that has its roots in the excellent system architecture and implementation that can be traced all the way back to 1984. However that was written in the context of a specific set of requirements and within a wider domain of current technologies.
Twenty years on the world has changed dramatically in many areas whilst remaining the same in others. The AG2 project is about reviewing the AmigaOS in all its domains, both internally and in its external relationships. There are new customers, new roles, new technologies, new requirements, new scopes, new products, new opportunities and new restrictions. AG2 will see the development of a technology set that can be used in derivative products, whether AmigaOS for the desktop, AmigaOS for the server, AmigaOS for the STB or whatever. Don't expect to see AG2 technology in AmigaOS4.0 but from AmigaOS4.1 onwards, you will start to see the AmigaOS transformed into something that we hope will once again set the marker for all others.
8) IonMane: As I understand it OS5 will be 64 bit, Is Amiga Inc considering the IBM 970, with its 32bit and 64 bit support, for this role in current or future AmigaOne systems?
Fleecy: 64 bit is the natural development path and given its necessity for a decent implementation of orthogonal persistence, one of our targets, I would expect to see 64 bit implementations sooner rather than later.
9) DaveP: I have a question ( everyone groans ). How long after the release of AOS4 will we have to wait for a version of Intent that works with it?
Fleecy: We have always targeted it for AmigaOS4.2. Given that we want to have a release gap of between 6-12 months once AmigaOS4.0 has shipped, that should be around about Christmas 2004. However, we may move it forwards to AmigaOS4.1. It depends on quite a few issues that I can't go into right now.
10) IonMane: There has been a lot of questions around from those that have coupons and other Amiga Inc promoted discounts.Could you please tell these people how to claim these discounts and Coupons...and even if they need a coupon to claim the discount.
Fleecy: I have answered this in question 2

PageStream price action until May, 16th 2003
Grasshopper LLC, developer of the DTP application PageStream, wrote:
We have been inundated with requests to continue to offer our discounted
price for PageStream full copies and upgrades. Of course who can blame
them! Paying less than 1/3 retail for a powerful desktop publishing
program like PageStream, not to mention discounts across the board on
upgrades sure does help the pocket book. For those new customers who have
joined the PageStream crowd, welcome aboard! However, all good things must
come to an end! After May 16th, PageStream's pricing returns to our normal
great price!
New Web Site In Development
We have decided to take it upon ourselves to make a radical redesign of
the GrasshopperLLC web site. Our basic design goals are to make it easy
for new customers to learn about PageStream's features, samples, how it
compares to others, and of course how to buy it. We hope to provide near
instant download access to new purchases. For existing PageStream users,
it should be easy to find answers to common questions, new scripts and
templates, and more. We have set up a survey on our web site asking for
input on what you would like to see on our website, and to tell us about
your favorite sites. The survey can be found at www.grasshopperllc.com.
Suggestions and any other help you can offer can also be directed at

Racer Source Code will be published as GPL
As you might know, there seem to be a bunch of people in the Linux
community who have a problem with Racer not being GPL'ed.
This might be a good time to take a crossroads. I plan to release
the Racer v0.5.0 source code under GPL. I don't think I'll host that
version after that, since we don't have that much bandwidth and
would take time that I'd rather put in other things.
After the GPL release, I'll close the source for future versions.
This does not have any impact on the strategy of Racer, which means
a free executable version for the platforms (although I still have
the problem of DRI executables for Linux, since I don't have such
a set in my possession).
There are plans for commercial implementations using Racer, and you
may have noticed things like 'ecol' or 'ecue'. Those are proprietary
extensions. Probably RakNet (a quite cool networking library) will
enter the game as well. It becomes harder to get clean source code
out the door, free of rights. Also, since the multiplayer component
might take a bit of a boost with RakNet (at least take out the
2-player limit at once), it would be too easy for hackers to create
modified versions of Racer and find their way through the network
protocol.
Although I'm sorry for all those interested in the source code, it
seems like the right path. There's always the GPL spinoff that could
be maintained. I'm not sure how that's going to turn out; I'm getting
major support these days in putting realism and knowledge into Racer's
physics and that is interesting for anyone.
The 2 Racer version will drift apart, that's for sure, if only because
of the networking protocols, I'm afraid. I'm not convinced however that
a GPL spinoff (with which I will have little to do) will go to bigger
heights than a closed source one. Even though it potentially means
more developers, it still takes a lot of devotion to make stable
improved versions without hacking little bits in just for the day.
So with the GPL version you'd have OpenSource, but no license to commer
cially sell it. It just still seems a bit counterproductive almost to
split the project into two.
Comments will be read with interest, although with these things I can
imagine you'll have 2 groups; those that are for and those that are
against, and nothing much will bring the 2 together.

This mighty big, but long overdue, Internet debut of "NoCover" was made possible through the sponsor
www.ConnectWeb.de, who made available server resources and hosting on their servers, and also together with Wolf Zimmer, who is
responsible for the complete editorial portion of "NoCover," handled around the updating.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you all that we absolutely need active helpers for "NoCover." So we always seek
volunteer editors, who have the desire to look after and care for a single area in "NoCover" and to contribute regular articles. We also
rejoice over individual articles on any familiar theme. Regular editors have the advantage of getting their own email address with a giant
Pop3 email post box (200 megabytes in size), and self-evidently also a secure SMTP server with authentication of the webserver
"AS2-Chicago" in order to dispatch their own emails. Besides there is also an individual subdomain that will be established, so that in
addition to emails regular editors may also get their own free hom page. We are able to offer this package as a little reward to all
volunteer editors who would like to regularly and actively help the magazine.
Of course the online magazine may also be gotten as usual, through an email subscription from Wolf Zimmer, as well as the website
APC&TCP and on Aminet.
We ask for your understanding that the new homepage, despite an astounding start, is still not fully complete, and we sincerely invite
you to the "NoCover" homepage. Further we would naturally be delighted to be linked from many Internet sites, in order for "NoCover" to
become again the biggest Amiga meeting point, as it was in earlier times.
We wish everyone much fun at the homepage of NoCover and rejoice at your visit.

Toolbar for Pegasos (Test version)
Carsten Siegner writes:
"Today I've prepared my MOS-native toolbar for Pegasos in a test version. This puts PNG icons of whatever programs are used on the toolbar,
where they may then be clicked.
Right now the gadgets are not yet activated, and the program thread is read from a Box.pref data. This toolbar supports only the new
MorphOS icons in PNG format. The whole thing has the advantage that I can easily build FX effects into the gadgets, which look
fantastic. To get this toolbar demo to run, you must download the usual libs from my homepage. This toolbar was written with "Hollywood
for MorphOS." (nba) (Translation: dm)

amiga-news.de Community T-Shirts (Update)
Since February 2003
we've been discussing in our forum the question of if and in what form we could
offer t-shirts with the amiga-news.de logo. Rolf Tingler, our home-and-garden graphic artist, has the opportunity to
stain some t-shirts. To those whom "staining" doesn't mean anything: the numbers of soccer t-shirts are usually
used up per staining (whoever has had this done knows how expensive it can be).
In his shop Rolf Tingler now offers different T-Shirt-Designs in different colors with the amiga-news.de logo from 17 euros and up. The
shirts consist of top quality ring-spun cotton (minimum 180g/qm) with double-seams at the arm and collar. The staining is washable up to
60 degree [Celsius, I think -dm] and the colors of the staining don't fade.
The amiga-news.de logo can be printed according to the wishes of the purchaser: large across the back,
small at front right breast, or both. Take a look at the pictures in the online shop, and click, to blow them up.
If you like, a nickname may be placed under the amiga-news.de logo, at no charge. This should be no more than 12 letters if possible.
Update: (14.07.2011, 00:00, cg)
While moving old static content to the database, the following gallery with pictures of the community t-shirts has been added to this news item:

New Genesi/Phoenix-Mailing list for demo coders
At MorphOS-News.de
Bill Buck and Raquel Velasco announce the opening of a mailing list for demo scene coders:
The DemoScene@phinixi.com mailing list is open for business / Genesi
sponsoring Demo Scene Online Party in Fall 2003.
The Peagsos I is out to about 600 avid users now and things are
starting to get whipped up for the introduction of the Pegasos II in
September 2003. We have always had respect for true Demo Teams because of
the way technical and creative skills are intertwined to produce unique
results with a computer. We decided that to truly be a success the Pegasos
and MorphOS needed to do their best to support the Scene. The Scene can
bring things to the Pegasos that no one else can.
To that end we have decided to lend ten fully configured and loaded Pegasos
machines to Demo Teams that have demonstrated past success and a desire to
produce a demo with the Pegasos for a Demo Scene online Party to be
sponsored by Genesi in the Fall of 2003. The Online DemoScene Gathering
will be open for voting by all Pegasos owners only -- one Pegasos, one
vote. First prize for the best Demo is 1000 Euros (and keep the Pegasos),
second prize 750 Euros (and keep the Pegasos) and third prize 500 Euros
(and keep the Pegasos!!!). For all teams that successfully present their
demo they can keep their Pegasos ( :-D ). If they agree to produce another
demo they will be lent a new G4 card with the same terms (and keep the card
if they deliver the demo).
To be selected for the DemoScene special offer each Team must be screened
and selected by the Phoenix DemoScene Executive Committee that is being
lead by Mikko Virtanen aka Hooligan of Dual Crew-Shining. We will ask
"Kiero" of the MadWizards, the winner of the Equinoxe DemoScene Competiton
and LoRD, of 4Mankind, the first Pegasos contest winner to also be on the
committee.
We will develop a special section on the MorphZone to keep track of these
special Demo Teams. All necessary documentation and support will be
provided to the DemoSceneTeams.
Sincerely,
Raquel and Bill

Haage & Partner: New Amiga start page and discussion forum
Haage & Partner have fitted their start page of the Amiga area to the new web design of the company and opend a discussion board also.
Haage & Partner write:
"Because we use HTML 4.1 (transitional) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) now the layout doesn't look good with the Amiga browsers. We tried to add some HTML tags so that the pages will work on the Amiga browsers. The deeper pages are not changed so everything stays the same here. The file size of this page is reduced with this action to 1/3...
After the server move we decided to abandon the mailing lists. But we installed with phpBB one of the best and common discussion boards. For Amiga users there are three exclusive areas and additionally the Pagestream board that is intended for all versions. The main language is German now but English is welcome also, just like it was with the mailing lists. The boards are not moderated, we ask therefore to please accept the usual rules. Abusing entries will be deleted by us without any record. We hope to get interesting discussions. (nba) (Translation: ub)

Infogrames renamed to Atari
Infogrames is dead - long live Atari! The French company Infogrames that bought all rights of the trademark Atari two years ago changed its name today officially and worldwide to that of the former game and computer giant. Until now Infogrames used the label Atari for publishing or licensing of some games only.
65 percent of the business activities of Atari, respective Infogrames,
are located to the U.S. in the meanwhile. Due to that 60 percent of the staff in Europe has been reduced during the last year. At the stock exchange the company gained some interest during the last weeks because of a gain of their stock price of 130 percent at the Nasdaq since April the 18th 2003, after Atari announced the completion of the game "Enter The Matrix". That game covers the movie "The Matrix Reloaded". It's expected that it might become one of the most successful computer games ever, which would Atari bring back to be one of the "major players" instantly. At the stock exchange Atari is recorded at the abreviation "ATAR".
Enter The Matrix will be available from May the 15th 2003 for PC, Xbox, Gamecube and Playstation2. By the title link Atari's new website is to reach.

Commodore ITX-64 with 933.000 MHz
Since some time there are some really small motherboards available within the PC world which almost have everything integrated which a usable PC needs.
The company Mini-ITX offers some of these tiny
all-in-one-boards. That ought to be nothing special but at their website they present some really weird "do it yourself PCs" which use this motherboard. Among these a PC compatible Commodore 64 with 933.000 MHz clock speed or a Commodore ITX-64.
The PC modeller set themselves to nearly no limits so you can see hifi devices with a integrated PC as DVD/DIVX player even a 5 liter keg or a biker helmet serves as a case. That page could be very inspiring for all AmigaOne and
Pegasos customers who are still looking for a fitting case.
The Macintosh community also has some talented modellers, so at Applefritter
there are similar case improvements for the Mac to find. Who will be looking intensivly enough will find an "Amiga 1200 laptop" as well.

A.D.A.: Breakpoint- and Gathering-Updates
Four new demos and intros from the Breakpoint Party 2003 and The Gathering 2003 were added to the demo-online-collection "Amiga
Demoscene Archive":
- Timur Lenk/Spaceballs and Ephidrena. Another corcker from the famous duo Slummy/Spaceballs and Loaderror/Ephidrena. 1st place at Breakpoint 4k intro competition. As always, stunning music, cool effects, good looking. Nothing more to add, just check it out! Highly recommended!
- Magia/The Black Lotus. Another TBL demo, another winner at Germany's Easter demo party. Check out the credits behind this demo and you know that it will be good. Notably a return from Desktop/CNCD with fab logos, and Blaizer/The Silents on the music. Recommended.
- Light 2/Iris. What a surprise this was. Iris seem to have decided to leave the oldskool style finally behind them and they surprise with this amazing demo. Utmost respect must go to Dr.Doom who not only coded the whole thing, but pixelled all the graphics work and did a very fine job on that. Music by Tricktrax is cool too. Again, higly recommended.
- Fake Electronik Lightshow/Ephidrena. 2nd place at The Gathering 2003 in a joined PC demo compo. Nothing much to say here. Download this and see what demomaking is all about. Phat tune, wicked visuals, synchro, energy, ... Extremely highly recommended ;).

Weekly Q&A's with Fleecy Moss - episode 8
The English online magazine AmigaWorld has published episode 8 of the regular questions and answers session with Fleecy Moss, CTO at AMIGA, Inc. (Update 2012-03-17, cg: as the original document is no longer available, the following content was moved into our database):
1) IonMane: Some software is now available for DE, yet I had difficulty finding out info on it, or even where to buy it. How do you plan on marketing it, do you plan to get in on shelves in supermarkets/department stores?
Fleecy: In discussions with potential partners, we have discovered that they are keen to rebadge and sell it themselves, for example the MS PocketPaks using Amiga Anywhere. They want to do this for several reasons, whether it be to use their existing marketing resources and branding or else to build up their own marketing brand, for example we are working with a company that has a rather unique expansion capability and they want to use Amiga Anyware products to show it off. Due to this, we are having to create a multi thread marketing strategy that promotes Amiga Anyware as a whole without damaging any of the particular marketing threads and opportunities.
The power of the underlying AmigaDE technology is that we can create multiple deployment models - cards, players, standalones etc and each one represents a separate marketing domain.
To answer your question, we already have one chain in the US (CompUSA) shipping the cards, Microsoft are pushing these cards to other chains and are investigating expansion opportunities. Other potential partners are at various stages but most seem to want to control the marketing. To bring it all together, we will be revising the Amiga Anyware website so that the different deployment types and different pieces of content will have their own separate resources so you will be able to search through the available content, find out in which products it ships and locate their availability.
2) Doobrey: Are there any plans( or even pipedreams) to have an AmigaOne or derivative as an "all on board" system (ie video, sound etc. all on the motherboard) for STB or embedded use?
Fleecy: We have several hardware vendors ranging from small to huge who are interested in the AmigaOS on a variety of devices that span the digital device market, all the way upto servers and workstations. Most of these devices already exist as either prototypes or reference designs and the companies involved are looking for an advanced multimedia capable operating system. We are keeping them closely informed as to the progress of AmigaOS4.0 and are already including requirements from them into the specification for AmigaOS4.1 and beyond.
3) ShadesOfGrey: For those of us who've already made that decision, and those of us considering this decision. How does Amiga Inc. plan to entice us back to AmigaOS 4 AND 'AmigaOS 5'? To be a bit more precise, once the die-hard community has been satisfied (or perhaps placated) by the release (or is the proper term is launch) of AmigaOnes and/with AmigaOS 4. Does Amiga Inc. have any formative plans for recapturing the dormant Amiga user and developer community?
Fleecy: Obviously we want to sell the AmigaOS into as many markets as possible and I have hinted at how we intend to do this in previous Q&A sessions. I do not want to go into too much detail since competitors are constantly on the lookout for any details of our plans so that they can adopt or stymie them as suits their agenda.
4) Treke: Don't you think that the success of 'mainstream' platforms (I think windoze) is also based on the ease of development (mass development) for them ? Has Amiga plans to make available some RAD tools for Amiga OS 4.x or AmigaOS 5.x ?
Fleecy: It is a fact that the success of a platform is down to the amount of content available for it. Whilst the AmigaOS does have a huge backlog of quality content, we need to create new content that takes advantage of the new features of AmigaOS4.0 (and beyond that of AG2). Having a friendly and easy to use development environment set which appeals to all levels of developer, from hobby to commercial is crucial to the growth of the content portfolio and we have plans to attend to this whilst also pushing the development envelope in terms of technologies.
5) IonMane: Could you tell us about SHEEP?What is it, and where does it fit into Amiga Incs. plan?
Fleecy: This follows on from Q4. We want a single, simple universal language that can be used to 'talk' to the environment, whether that be an extended shell, scripts, querying or shells. Such a language would sit at the heart of our future environment, making it a more social, more interactive experience that graphical manipulation and projection.
6) IonMane: Just how powerful is the DE player? Is it possible, for example, to write a Office suite with the capabilities of MS office/Open Office?
Fleecy: Firstly, the AmigaDE is a technology set for the creation of products. The DE Player was a prototype product that allowed for content portability. Amiga Anyware was our first proper commercial product, allowing for multiple deployment options against a content portfolio. As to how powerful is it? It is as powerful as its host in terms of performance and in terms of capabilities, we are expanding them all the time - enhanced 2D, 3D support, data storage and organisation options. It is more than capable of providing a productivity environment which in reality is a lot less demanding that many of the games being written or already available. We need to add a few more GUI gadgets to make it more productivity friendly but they are in the pipeline.
7) IonMane: If this is possible, is it possible to take this exact program and use it directly on say a Linux, Mac or AmigaOne? (providing the DE player is available for these platforms?
Fleecy: That is the point of the AmigaDE and we have already demonstrated this, with the same content runnning on both Linux, Embedded Linux, Symbian, Windows, PocketPC and across Arm, MIPS, SHn, and x86 processors. We just have to make sure that the DE environment is available for the particular deployment HW/SW.
8) horizone: The Commodore 64 got you right into a BASIC interpreter 2 seconds after powerup and the original Amiga included AmigaBasic. I think DOS included a basic too... WindowsXP at least have Paintbrush and a bunch of small games to start having fun with out of the box. How will the newbie AmigaOne owner get started with creative and fun stuff without spending more money on full games and apps right away?
Fleecy: What we are intending to do is offer a contributions drawer, where third parties can provide freeware, shareware and either full or limited versions of their commercial products. In this way the user has a good selection of powerful applications with which to experiment right out of the box and the third party developers gain maximum access to the potential customer base for their products. We had talked to developers and users about the very problem you describe and this is the solution that they suggested.
9) ssolie: How does Amiga Inc. influence and control the development path of AmigaOS when you do not have direct control over the source code? For example, Hyperion may add/remove/change features that would be counterproductive to your goals.
Fleecy: Far too much has been made of the fact that ownership of the AmigaOS rests with Hyperion at the moment, mostly by those with an interest in encouraging mischief. It was done as a protective measure to ensure that if anything happened to Amiga Inc then the community wouldn't have to put up with another x years of uncertainty. The actual development process itself is already well documented and agreed at the highest levels. I have also mentioned before that AmigaOS4.0 is unique in that it is mostly about moving from old hardware to a new abstract hardware definition whilst the Amiga Generation 2 (AG2) project is about advancing the capabilities of the product as a whole; as such Hyperion, with its expertise in classic hardware, porting and PPC architectures is far more qualified to make that transition than the staff at Amiga Inc.
10) JubalHarshaw: I was wondering what direction the AmigaDE side of things will move in... as far as what markets besides the current one. (forgive me if that's not clear, English isn't my strong point yet :) What I mean is, where is it moving into, and where do you see AmigaDE making the biggest impact?
Fleecy: AmigaDE will continue to flesh out its capabilities in response to the demands made on it by its derivative products and the customers of those products. For example, the enthusiastic response to the Gamecard technology, one of the Amiga Anyware deployments is causing us to extend the Quickstart, Autostart and PIPO (Pop In/Pop Out) feature sets. At its heart though, AmigaDE will always be a portable content solution whilst for dedicated products such as desktops and workstations which require a full environment, the AmigaOS will be enhanced and pushed.
As far as impact, AmigaDE derivatives will have most impact where a product domain has a heterogeneous profile. So, in a market where content solutions are more important than implementations, such as the embedded market, the ability of the DE to offer the same content across those many different product implementations will be valuable whereas in a product domain where one manufacturer and implementation dominates then it will have less of an impact (although even in this case, the high efficiency of the AmigaDE coupled with the quality of the content makes a compelling case all of its own.
Over time, the idea of a multi product matrix will become a very powerful driver for the AmigaDE. A digital home with a mix of devices that ranges from PDAs, Tablets, TVs, Consoles, Laptops, Smartphones, DVD players and even washing machines, air conditioning and automobiles will benefit immensely from something like the AmigaDE, which attempts to create a single, contiguous solution above the various devices.

After the great success of the Kick Off 2 World Championship 2002 in Osnabrück, in which 32 contestants participated, it continues on June, 7th 2003. The incumbent world champion organizes the tournament this time in Igersheim, a small town near Würzburg (Germany).
There's only a small number of places free and therefore everybody who wants to participate should hurry and register via an entry into the guestbook.
P.S. Of course it will be played only with the Amiga version!

Photos of 4. VFCe in Munich
The Vintage Computer Festival Europe,
taking place this year for the 4th time and also opening tomorrow, is a
real pleasure for fans of old computers from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
I'd had a look at the show today and made some photos that can be found
following the title link.
There were many computers to be seen and to be used by yourself in all
since the early sixties of the last century, from pure calculating
machines via the home computers of the eighties to workstations and
mainframes by Control Data and Cray Research. The last mentioned ones
can only be seen within an excursion about the
Projekt Cray-Cyber which is
very recommendable. To see a CDC 960 with NOS on it in action is an
absoloute highlight!
People living near Munich with at least a little interest for working
old computers shouldn't miss the VCFe - tomorrow the festival is opened
till 17.00 o'clock.

Amiforce: new Amiblitz2.32 distribution
Today was a new full distribution of Amiblitz2.32 uploaded.
In the last distribution had unfortunately been some errors included. Besides, there had been no up-to-date German versions of Amiblitz2 (compiler) and PED (editor) in the archive. Because of these in conveniences was this archive completely removed.
The new distribution now contains completely updated German versions, the guide has been enhanced und has been translated completely into German. Furtheron were some errors in the install script fixed.
Amiblitz2.32 brings together with bugfixes the following improvements/enhancements:
- Fixed Gadtools.lib that i.e. removes the limitation to four colors in shape gadgets.
- MUI is now completely supported thanks to MUI2.res.
- AHI is now really supported.
- OpenGL is now via StormMesa possible.
Regarding the last point it is important to consider the stack size in the Amiblitz2 icon of at least 300 KB. This must not be lowered in no case if OpenGL shall be used. A GL demo is included in the distribution.
Archives Digger95 and Diamantus corrected:
The game Digger95 seemed to be transferred incompletely during the upload.
This has now been fixed. In the Diamantus archive had been two different versions. This has possibly irritated some users. The older version was removed and only the most up-to-date version remains in the archive.
The archives were compressed with LHA level6 unfortunately causing some problems while decompressing with the XAD.library and older versions of LHA.
In the future this shall not happen again.
In the next days we'll place finally something in the music section again. Had been calm in this area a long time. ;-)

Sequencer: port of Barsnpipes for MorphOS
According to a message on morphos-news.de is the MIDI sequencer
Barsnpipes, once commercial software and nowadays developed as freeware by Alfred Faust, being ported to MorphOS. Read here his notes on the port:
"I've just started an attempt to port BarsnPipes to the
MorphOS - Pegasos - system. It is near unbelievable how
fast this system is. Compiling is done 20 - 30 times faster
than on my 68040/40-AMIGA. The loading process of the 500
pics for BarsnPipes at startup is done in 1.5 seconds (!).
Because porting to MorphOS is real a hard work, I must
terminate the further development on the AMIGA-line for the
moment. I don't know if I can port BarsnPipes completely to
MorphOS ... but I try it."

Tool: SRename 3.7.0 final version
Constantinos Nicolakakis has published the final version 3.7.0 of the tool 'SRename'.
With this tool which works from OS3.0 on you can comfortably rename files. In the
new version the following features have been added and bugs fixed:
New features in this version:
- Automatic renaming when new filename already exists. "Noautoren" (nar)
option has been added to deactivate it.
- "Noautopsep" (nap), "Noautossep" (nas), "Autopsep" (aup), "Autossep"
(aus) options added to control the handling of prefix and suffix
separators when prefix and suffix is created or deleted.
- "Addonly" (ao) secondary argument added to "Prefix", "Main" and
"Suffix" selectors. When used it prevents existing components from being
modified, and components are added if they don't already exist.
Bugfixes:
- Redirection of filename and comment with "Tofilename" and "Tocomment"
can now work in Immediate and Reuse (cached) mode as required by the
user, instead of the previous fixed partially cached mode.
- Several core bugs fixed that prevented proper renaming with certain
action and immediate/reuse mode combinations.
- Parser bug fixed occasionally broke the parsing process if commands
with secondary arguments were used.
- Some memory misallocations fixed.
Other changes:
- Now the usage text is printed if no arguments are given.

Changes within this version:
- http.c - Added Content-Type and Filesize to Transfer Header and eliminated null character in the Header. File transfers using WEB Browser now work. Apr 5, 2003
- transfer.c - Eliminated superflous gadgets from File Transfer window to reduce user confusion. Apr 6, 2003
- userinfo.c - Added seperate update procedure for Transports to avoid double roster entries. Apr 15, 2003 (Bug ID 584725)
- roster.c - Replaced double contact removal with seperate removals for Users and Transports. Eliminated subscribing to Transports to avoid double roster entries. Transports are supposed to be registered and not subscribed anyway. Apr 16, 2003
- agents.c - Added line to clear agents list when connecting. Eliminates multiple agents lists when disconnecting and reconnecting. Apr 20, 2003 (Bug ID 550881)
- presence.c - Eliminated duplicate subscription requests when disconnecting and reconnecting. Eliminated enforcer hit that occurred if the Subscription Window "Accept" or "Reject" buttons were clicked after the last subscription request was removed. Apr 21, 2003 (Bug ID 554328)
- roster.c - Added functions to close any open user windows before removing a contact. Also added error_pix to the roster dispose function. Apr 24, 2003 (Bug ID 549722)
- roster.c - Added functions to close all open user windows before disconnecting. Fixes enforcer hits that occur if you disconnect, reconnect and attempt to use windows that remained open. Apr 25, 2003
Note - The changes I made in roster.c and userinfo.c clear up the enforcer hits that are present in the current prerelease of v 1.4. It doesn't fix the source of the problem though. I think the hits are actually originating in the iksemel library when some unexpected or unusual XML is received. Something may have to be changed there eventually. (nba) (Translation: ub)

Audio track "Call to Ancestors" by Bjorn Lynne online
Bjorn Lynne writes:
"First of all, many many thanks to those of of you who already bought the
new CD "Power Liquids", which I released about two weeks ago. This is an
album of trance / electronica that I made toghether with my friends in
Aural Planet, and it has been extremely well received so far. Thanks again
to those of you who have given your support so far, by ordering the CD.
Due to popular demand (!) I have now made one full-length track from the
album available to hear online at http://www.mp3.com/bjornlynne. It's the
first mp3 track there. This is in addition to the short mp3 clips from ALL
the songs on the CD, which you can still hear at: http://www.lynnemusic.com/powerliquids.html
While you are at my mp3 page, please give all my other tracks a play as
well, as it may help them to get higher in the mp3.com charts and make
more people "discover" my music through the mp3.com site. Thank you!
And for those of you who have still not discovered the new album: "Power
Liquids", you can read all about it (or even order it) here:
http://www.lynnemusic.com/powerliquids.html. Your order (should you place
one!) will be shipped out within 24 hours by me, personally." (nba) (Translation: ub)

Pegasos: Summary of all the things regarding the Articia
Within a comment at OSNews.com
Raquel Velasco and Bill Buck sum up all the mess regarding the
Articia chip and confirm the use of the Marvell-Northbridge for the
Pegasos II. The support by Marvell and their
interest for the Pegasos II is said to be very high.
The Articia-S versions were specified. The northbridges used
for the Pegasos I are said to be Articia S #A660BNGP,
these were not produced any longer. For testing purpose some of the
new Articia S #A660BNGE were purchased.
The specs for the
G4 cards (July) and the Pegasos II (September) were confirmed
within the comment.
Furthermore links to BeOS pages are
listed which cover Genesi's attendance at the BeGeistert show:
BeGroovy, BeForever and LeBuzz.
Again the Pegasos II will be offered for a reduced price to the
Phoenix members after the demand for the Pegasos I has not been
feeded completely.
Finally they tell that Eugenia
Loli-Queru, chief editor of OSNews, received a Pegasos so that there
will be a report by her soon.
