MorphOS: E-mail client Iris 0.107
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek's "Iris" is going to be the standard e-mail client for MorphOS. It supports IMAP and is able to display as well as create HTML e-mails.
Changes in version 0.107 include configurable additional toolbar functions, 'Move to Spam' message functionality, support for setting and displaying message importance, and an optional requester before single-replying to a message that has multiple recipients.
Besides, the privacy policy has been updated, stating for each kind of functionality that only the necessary data are transmitted. For feedback to the author, the corresponding thread at MorphZone can be used. (snx)

Point'n Click adventure: "The Widow" updated (update)
Already on 21. January Juan Carlos 'Templario' Herran Martin announced an update of his point' click adventure 'The Widow' on his Morgue Soft website. But only from today the new version 1.10 is available. Additional to German and Italian catalogs and new sounds, some bugs were fixed and minor changes done, among others "the Bath Girl doesn't showed naked when you take some object from her".
To amiga-news.de, Juan Carlos confirmed his intention of closing the "chapter Amiga" and thus also his website by March 12. In contrary to the past practice, he is going to upload his most important programs to the different Amiga archives like Aminet, OS4Depot or AROS archive.

As a reader pointed out, the website of Morgue Soft already has been closed. Juan Carlos explained, that he has to disable his website due to limited memory for website traffic provided by the web hoster. Instead of paying he decided to close the website as signal of solidarity for almost all shops in Spain are closed. He pointede out that except the erotic games all software will be archived on OS4Depot und MorphOS. He also has indicated that in one way or another he might continue his developer activities.

Raspberry Pi as m68000 replacement: PiStorm
Claude Schwarz' 'PiStorm' connects a Raspberry Pi to a CPU socket of an A500, A1000 or A2000 using an adapter for emulating a fast m68k processor. In contrary to the Buffee project a Linux-based solution is used instead of running the 68k emulator directly on the hardware.
On his Twitter channel Schwarz has published some videos showing the latest level of development: FastRAM obviously still has not been implemented. Hardware documentations and source codes are available on Github but not under a free license: A commercial application requires the accordance of the developer.

Accelerator board project 'Buffee': ARM processor emulates 68040/400 Mhz
The open source accelerator board project "Buffee" started by Renee Cousins and Tim Wacker consists of an adapter board which is connected to the processor socket of an A500, A1000 or A2000 and has a SoC of type Octavo OSD335x-SM inclusive 512 or 1024 MB RAM.
The ARM-CPU of the Octavo module emulates a 68k processor using a special JIT emulator called Pseudo JIT which supposedly can achieve the speed of a 68040 clocked with 400 Mhz. Additional to the firmware, the hardware design freely available. According to the developers in their blog, the production of prototypes gets closer.

Tanker simulation: Full versions of 'Campaign' and 'Campaign II' as download
The full versions of the tank simulations 'Campaign' and 'Campaign II' released in 1992 and 1994 can be downloaded from the Amiga Future website. Additional to ADF and IPF disk images, also WHDLoad installers are available. The pdf document described as "Manual" actually only is a one page "addendum" to the manual.

Arcade classic: Second beta version of Amiga Space Invaders

E-Mail client: YAM supports AmiSSL 4.7 / moved to GitHub
About seven years ago we reported about an update of the e-Mail program YAM last time. At the beginning of the year 2019 by updating AmiSSL to version 4.3 it was possible again to check e-mails from diverse providers. For that you have to switch to the developer version of YAM which has been monthly updated by Nightly Builds. After a month you had to install the new version since each version was limited for a period of one month. Apart from that, the changelog always stayed the same: "This is only a rebuild of YAM with no functionaly changes but updated expiration date."
By releasing the last Nightly Build, this limitation has been removed. And if you try to access the YAM homepage yam.ch you are forwarded to the GitHub site.
Apart from that YAM can use the latest version 4.7 of AmiSSL. Since version 4.4 the encryption software for network and internet communication is maintained by a team of the IBrowse developer Oliver Roberts and ensures that even at the Amiga encrypted Internet connection can be established. Mainly 68k Amigas generally benefit from optimized versions for 68020-40 and 68060 processors, but 68060 processors in particular (amiga-news.de reported).
We could not figure out how intensively YAM is being developed. For example it is not clear if the target set in 2016 to implement a IMAP download is continued to pursue. The source code of YAM is available on GitHub so everybode who is able and interested in developing further YAM can help.

Product announcement: A500 replacement board 'MiSS FGPA'
8bits4ever already is offering some FPGA solutions for retro fans. Soon also a FPGA-based replacement boards for A500 cases will be available. This 'MiSS FPGA' fit inside a Commodore A500 case and uses the original A500 keyboard as input device.
The board is equipped with the same FPGA like the MiST therefore MiSS FPGA is compatible to all MiST cores. Two traditional joystick ports are available which obviously are both set as port 1 - probably for the simultaneous usage of mouse and joystick.

- 32MB SDRAM
- Four USB port (supports USB keyboards, mice and gamepads. Also USB hubs to add more that one device per port)

Preview videos: Jump'n Run 'Minkey', Super-Sprint clone 'Turbo Sprint'
'Minkey' (video) is a classic jump'n run for Amigas equipped with at least 1 MB RAM. The author describes the engine as "90% finished". So far 11 levels can be played. And he has added: "There are also more colorful levels ready with nice copper'ed backgrounds, I will post them soon." The game is supposed to be released this year.
'Turbo Sprint' (video) becomes a original port of the Atari classic Super Sprint. Improved sound as well as a port for the CD32 has been announced. The author hopes to provide the best homecomputer port of Super Sprint.

Database: MUIBase 4.3 and SQLite 3.34.0
Steffen Gutmann has released an update of his programmable relational database MUIBase for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS (and Windows and Linux). For SQLite is used as engine he has also updated his port of this SQL database.
Changes in MUIBase 4.3:
- Projects are now saved in the SQLite3 format. Existing projects are
converted automatically when loading a project.
- Labels for database objects have their own font settings in the structure
editor
- Improved performance (loading of records, select-from-queries with a
condition on a reference record)
- Changes can be logged to an external file, and applied to a backup copy
of a project.
- Several bug fixes

Tetris clone: Crazy Columns (demo) 0.93
Jochen Hoffer has released a new demo version of his port of the Sega classic 'Columns'. German as well as English versions are available now and the update fixes a few minor bugs. The developer tells us that the last thing holding back the release of the full version is the completion of the sound effects.

Console replacement: ViNCEd 3.98
"ViNCEd" written by Thomas Richter is a replacement for the console program CON:. You can run the Shell in it but also other programs.
The full screen console handler has many additional features. For example "the whole window content is kept in memory, so you may use the cursor keys to move upwards on the screen and may re-execute commands you typed some time ago by pressing the return key". Furthermore yYou can cut, copy and paste text to and from the clipboard, as with the standard handler."
By adding parameters, many programs support the debugging mode. If you use the ordinary Shell for it you can only read and copy this text which fits in the current window. Using ViNCEd you can read and copy the whole debug output by selecting the text with the helpof the cursor keys or the scroll bars.
According to Thomas Richter, "the first version of ViNCEd appeared years ago (even before 1990). In lack of a better name, I called it VeryNewCon - as
opposed to the NEWCON: developed by Commodore for the 1.3 Workbench which was the latest clue at this time. VeryNewCon was short VNC: - but since this
name is really boring, I decided to fill in some vowels - and add an "Ed". Well, it's an editor which runs, apparently, a shell in it."
Changes in version 3.98: "If ViNCEd became active before ENV: and LOCALE: were setup, the localization wasn't updated for new windows even after ENV: became mounted. ViNCEd now also pulls all new system preferences once it becomes aware that the preferences system becomes active. Also, a new swedish locale is included."
ViNCEd requires OS 2.0 or higher.

CDXL play: AGABlaster 0.9.82
AGABlaster plays Commodore's CDXL videos. In version 0.9.82 support for standard 12-bit AGA6-8 and HAM8 videos (used in several games in the late 90s) was added. Additionally optimized versions for all 68k processors inclusive Vampire are available.

Spaceship vs Asteroids Game: SPOD
After more than 20 years Marten Wobst has reactivated his Amiga 500. In celebration of the day he has written a little game called SPOD (Space Pilot of Death).
The game principle ist very simple: you're supposed to avoid all asteroids approaching the spaceship. Otherwise your shield gets lower and finally the spaceship crashes. By releasing this game, Marten was also going to reactivate his knowlegde on programming. The game is written in assembler and runs on any Amiga 500. It can be played with a joystick but also with the cursor keys (contrary to the Readme, the space key is not needed). The longer your spaceship survices the more points you get which maybe results in an entry in the highscore.
Marten has described his game "more of a fast Joystick test" than a complete game:
"I was going to write something simple within a reasonable period of time and I wanted to check if I can make it on an Amiga 500 without accelerator boards. In restrospect I am really surprised what an ordinary Amiga 500 can technically perform. I have not perfectly programmed my game, much more is possible."
Currently he is playing around with assembler programming, implementing some issues more perfect. But it is hobby and should be fun. We really enjoyed the game and therefore keep our fingers crossed that Marten will also go on enjoying his hobby.

Prototype: New 2-Stick controller for Amiga or C64 introduced
"Abstraction Games" has developed a new joypad for C64 and Amiga which has four fire buttons but also two sticks - working on the joystick port without having to change something on the computer. In the past dual-stick-controllers often were used in slot machines but so far has been not available for Commodore home computers.
Two games have been also introduced which the developers have adapted to the new joysticks: Chaos Engine and Commando (C64). Probably the games will be commercially distributed, maybe as Kickstarter campaign.

Lawsuit: Hyperion und Cloanto allegedly close to a settlement again
A year ago, Hyperion and Cloanto asked the judge presiding their lawsuit to extend a deadline because they were allegedly close to finalizing a settlement. A few days later, the negotiations were aborted.
In another motion dated January 20th, both Parties address the judge again, asking for another extension. They announce that settlement discussions had been resumed in October 2020 and that "on Thursday of last week, the Parties reached the terms of settlement on the main agreement".
The motion goes on to explain that "the only tasks that need to be completed are for the Parties to attend to seven ancillary documents, including an assignment and novation agreement, mutual releases, stipulations of dismissal, and documents related to a proceeding in Belgium." (cg)

Book announcement:'From Vultures to Vampires' splitted into two parts
Last summer the second book of the former Commodore-UK manager David Pleasance, written together with Trevor Dickinson (A-EON), was successfully financed by a Kickstarter campaign. According to Pleasance in two updates (1, 2), they "seriously underestimated the amount of enthralling material our research has uncovered, added to which as Trevor and I reached out to many of the people who feature in these stories, to our surprise (and sheer delight) many have responded and added even more intriguing content than we could have ever wished for."
And he continued: "In order for us to deliver that, we have no option but to split the book into Volume 1 and Volume 2." Volume 1 is supposed to be published in the second quarter of 2021. All those who participated in the Kickstarter campaign last year, will get volume 2 for 50% off (the printed edition for 17,50 Pound Sterling, about 20 Euro plus shipping, the pdf edition for 8,50 Euro). Driver update for Wicher cards

Apollo core: Release 5 for Vampire 4
The Apollo core is a FPGA reimplementation of the m68k series of Motorola providing a new graphic resolution called SAGA. The core is used in the Vampire accelerator boards. Apollo Release 5 provides the following changes:
- Copper compatibility fixed. This fixes a high number of games which before were displayed not perfectly.
- CPU speed up. We are working on /testing CPU improvements which will give you about 10 MIPS speedup.
- H.D.M.I Monitor compatibility improvement
- More Screenmodes. We will add more Screenmodes to the monitor drivers allowing you to e.g. access 800x600, 1024x768
- Deluxe Galaga works now on APOLLOS
- Improved PIP feature.
- Smoother truecolor Video Playback for the Workbench
- "Magic" PAL/NTSC Hotkey switching your Amiga video out to PAL/NTSC50/NTSC.

Turn-based space strategy: Imperium Terranum 2.802a
The source code of the turn-based space strategy game Imperium Terranum 2 has been available on Aminet for many years. For some time now the little documented Pascal source code 'Fook42' is converting into standard conforming Cn - aiming at later improving the game, e.g. adding support for graphic cards.
The version which was now uploaded to Github was not changed regarding the game play but features free screenmodes for the main screen (640x512) and the planet view (320x256) to choose. The selection is saved in the pictogram of the game. The update has to be copied over the full version of 'Imperium Terranum' since on Github only the main program is available.

Print/PDF magazine: Amiga Addict, issue 2
For publishing the first issue of the British "Amiga Addict", 500 pre-orders were required. The magazine was delivered in December. Now the second issue can be ordered which will be delievered from 29. January.
Among others the latest issue contains an interview with Mike Dailly and Steve Hammond (DMA Design) about diverse DMA classics, a 5-page CD32 and CDTV console section as well as a tribute to the Amiga developer Dave Needle who died five years ago.
Amiga Addict is supposed to be published monthly and is available as single issue or as subscription, either printed or as pdf.

Modplayer: AmiModRadio 0.99991
AmiModRadio is "a program to automatically download, extract, and play modules from Aminet." Other websites like Haxor.fi, Modland and Modules.pl are supported as well. A rating function is also included. In the latest version a console bug was fixed. Besides: "Fixed/improved the code dealing with the players and updated the HTTP User-agent to make all HTTP sources work." If you want to report bugs then please use the official bugtracker. Any ideas for improving the program are welcome!
As the author Tygre told ue, his homepage is completely maintained using an Amiga 1200 being in his office at work. Due to COVID currently he cannot easily reset the Amiga if it has freezed so it may happen that the website is temporarily not available for quite some time.

Video port: New DB23F video connectors available
The US American companies Soigeneris and Retronic Design - both selling their products also on ebay - joined their forces to have this D-Sub connectors remanufactured. They also inform that "we are working on a matching plastic hood for the DB23 connector which we hope to have out Q1 2021. In the meantime, it is possible to use a DB25 hood, however the mounting screw holes will not line up properly."

Internet radio: Radio Ericade plays Amiga mods twenty-for-seven
The according to their own statement "last true Amiga music broadcaster" Radio Ericade from Sweden plays Amiga mods just around the clock. The program is completed by editorial content e.g. advertising active mailboxes. Besides, every Saturday evening 9 p.m. CET the show "Amiga Flashback" runs. Tetris clone: Crazy Columns (demo) (update)
Jochen Hoffer's 'Crazy Columns' is a clone of the classic Sega-Genesis game Columns for one or two players, which can be played with joystick or keyboard. Now a demo was released featuring only one of the three game modes and only one difficulty.
The game was written in assembler and runs in any Amiga equipped with at least 512 KB RAM. Still it is not clear when the full version of Crazy Columns will be available.

Announcement: Platform game 'Creeping Me Out Hex Night'
'Creeping Me Out Hex Night' written by Michael Dawes using the Construction Kit Scorpion Engine is supposed to become a new jump'n run game. Self-made project: Amiga keyboard as USB input device
'Amiga500-Keyboard' uses an Arduino 'Pro Micro' or 'Leonardo' to turn an A500, A1000 or A2000 keyboard into an USB compatible input device. The program code running on the Arduino was released on Github. You can get further information regarding wiring in the forum of arduino.cc.

Hyperion: 'Hotfix' for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2
Press release: Some users of update 2 for AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition have experienced stability issues after updating. This hotfix addresses these stability issues and fixes a couple of other minor issues found after the release of update 2.
The hot fix is free to registered users of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition and can be found in the download area. It will also be made available via AmiUpdate.
The hotfix should only be applied on top of the original update 2 package released on December 23, 2020!
The original update 2 package has also been updated with the components in the hot fix and is now available in a new version (version number 53.14) in our download area and via AmiUpdate.
This update is the result of the continuing effort of a dedicated group of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition developers and beta-testers. Thank you!

Obligement: Update of Amiga Games List
Since April 1991 David Brunet has been maintaining the "Amiga Games List". By updating the list for the 51st time, the database now includes 13.267 games, level editors, data disks, expansions and interpreters, divided into the following categories:
- 12.664 games
- 338 extensions and data disks
- 146 game or level editors
- 119 interpreters
This update has added games which have been released in 2020 or have been developed using the Scorpion Engine or Haktar. Additionally existing games have been marked which runs on AmigaOS 4, MorphOS or AROS using an interpreter ('[+Interpreted]').

Arcade shoot'em-up: 'Gradius' port 'Tinyus' announced
After Tiny Invaders, Tiny Galaga and Tiny Bobble the demo group is working on its fourth arcade port within one year: 'Tinyus' is supposed to become an true port of the arcade shoot'em up Gradius released in 1985:
Tinyus will run on an A500 equipped with 1 MB RAM but an A1200 is recommended for getting 50 frames per second. The game has been completed and could be released but according to the developers first beta testing has to be completed. Besides, 3 kb must be saved.
A short preview of the soundtrack the developers has published as MP3 file.

A1000 expansion: 'Parceiro' provides Fast-RAM, SD card slot and RTC
'Parceiro' (Portuguese: "Partner") is an expansion for the A1000 which comes in a thin plastic case - fitting to the computer - plugged in the lateral expansion port of the Amigas. It provides 8 MB Fast-RAM, a micro SD slot accessible from the outside with a 2 GB FAT32-formatted SD card as well as a real-time clock.
You cannot boot from this SD card but the producer provides a detailed tutorial explaining how to create "KickWork" disk. Additional to the Kickstart image it contains a Workbench as well as all required drivers and utilities for mounting the sd card and reading the real-time clock.
According to a review on Youtube, the card seems only be produced in very small numbers. If you are interested you can pre-order a 'Parceiro' at the US American developer Dabid Dunklee via email. The price for a card is 195 USD plus shipping.

Morgue Soft stops developer activity by releasing the game "The Widow"
After more than 27 years, Juan Carlos 'Templario' Herran Martin has stopped his developer activity by releasing the game "The Widow" which is a point'n'click horror adventure written in Hollywood:
According to 'Templario' this game is "a little summary of the best games and programs made for me with my programming and graphic design skills". It is available for MorhpOS 2.7-3.x, AmigaOS4.x, AROS, Windows and Linux.
During the past years he has released software like the picture viewer Videntium Picta, the picture editing programm Pintor Web or the PDF viewer GrimoriumPDF. Furthermore he wrote diverse slot machine games and adult games.
His first projects 'Templario' wrote in AmiBlitz/BlitzBasic for his brother. Since 2010 he has used Hollywood as his main developing software. In response to our question about the reasons for his decision he answered that it "is very complicated making games for Amiga systems when there are not skilled graphic designers in this hobby, and the motivation and the input of fresh ideas is low."
Now he is enjoying his hobby as another spectator of the scene. We wish him much fun in the new period of life and all the best for the future!

Playable demo: Point'n Click adventure 'Wilcza Buda'
'Wilcza Buda' (video) is a classic point'n click adventure. The demo version requires 1 MB Chip and 1,5 MB Fast RAM. For computers equipped with more Fast RAM there is a separated version. Wilcza Buda runs with Kickstart 1.2 and higher and can be played from disk or harddrive.

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.85
RedPill developed by Carlos Peris is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - see our little review of two games. Recently a preview video of the forthcoming game "Putter" has been released being also developed with RedPill. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires a total of 1,5 MB RAM.
Changes in version 0.85:
- Added action Trigger Prev Level to move to the previous level.
- Added action Trigger Level# to var to set a Var with the current level number.
- Improved ApolloOS/AROS compatibility.
- FIX: In Spitesheet screen, Pick could lead to a crash.

File manager: MCAmiga 0.9 for all Amiga systems (update)
Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow's MCAmiga is a file manager inspired by Norton and Midnight Commander which can be completely used with the keyboard. Version 0.9 has been already released in August 2020 - we reported about it in our dominical Aminet uploads - but after poiting out by us, Marcus now has added the missing change log which we also want to share with our readers:
- difference viewer in tools menu
- basic highlighter for ini, patch/diff files
- BugFix for start from WBDock2
- startup scripts to directly start the viewer/diffviewer from shell
- Bugfix for file size
MCAmiga is available for AmigaOS (m68k, PPC), MorphOS and AROS (x86, x64, ARM). The programm at least requires 4 MB RAM.

According to the author meanwhile the AmigaOS-4 version does run on a X5000 since it has not been a MCAmiga bug, but a Free Pascal Bug which has been fixed.

Shoot'em Up: Screenshots and cover of "Inviyya", release in February
The shoot'em up Inviyya obviously is approaching completion: The game will be available on poly.play in February. On Indie Retro News you can see the cover of the box as well as some new screenshots.
Inviyya requires at least an Amiga 500 and is running at 50 frames per second. The game has six worlds with completely different enemies, six different upgrades of the weapon system as well a real final end sequence.

MorphOS: e-mail client Iris 0.99 (Update)
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek's "Iris" is going to be the standard e-mail client for MorphOS. It supports IMAP and is able to display as well as create HTML e-mails.
Compared to betaversion 94 released about two months ago, Iris 0.98 now utilises the core of Wayfarer instead of Odyssey. Additionally there are first localisations, improved navigation and several bug-fixes. For feedback to the author, the corresponding thread at MorphZone can be used.

Self-made project: Real-time clock for 68000 Amigas
