Silversurfer Update
Jens Schönfeld writes:
Sales of the Silversurfer started surprisingly well. Preorders have been catched up, so there
will be no more delays for orders.
Since October 15th, there is a software update available from my
website.
Changes:
- device now 68000 compatible
- A600 adapter supported
- crashes with Z4 board fixed
- Installer script optimized
- successful installation can now be checked by the power LED "morse code" even without a 15kHz monitor
Start of delivery for the A600 adapter is November 10th, 1999. Preorders are not accepted, to
avoid confusion with people who placed pre-orders but bought one at the Cologne show.
Available since Thursday is the Silversurfer limited edition. It has a 26pin
port for connecting with old Buddha controllers (those with a green board) or the Catweasel
Z-II (all versions). The number is limited to 88. The limited edition is not available
in shops, but only by fax order from individual Computers.
Due to the small numbers, the price is ~40 Euro plus ~5 Euro P&P.

Apex: Payback status report 2
There is a new status report about Payback from
Apex Designs.
- Bugs have been removed. There have been problems with collision control. It now
works faster and more reliable, but needs some more work.
- The sound mixing code has been implemented. It is a very flexible system. A total
of 12 sounds can be mixed with their exact 3D position, and be reproduced in stereo
via the inverse square law. Moreover, a realistic doppler effect simulation is available.
All this runs on the Amiga soundchip "Paula", and will be optimised by Assembler code.
- Talks have been made with several bands about the soundtrack. Perhaps more in the next update.

2nd beta of AHI/PPC
Martin Blom has released a new beta of AHI for PPC. This version supports WarpUp,
but right now is 35% slower than the PowerUp version. Therefore you shouldn't expect
much speed from this version, but simply tell Martin Blom if it runs.
Due to a recently discovered bug in WarpUp, AHI is kept from using the
cache like it is supposed to. AHI will either provide a workaround for this, or
require a newer version of WarpUp.

XLight / LaserMax
XLight is a soft-/hardware project by Christian Entrup for controlling
lighting systems for small and large events. On the homepare the following
information is available in adition to the manual and screenshots:
Right now, ony a demo version of this software is available. It is a demo
version WITHOUT HARDWARE OUTPUT on the parallel port. The subroutines for
driving the hardware are missing in this version! The software is fully
functional, however, including writing and saving lighting skripts. Sadly,
the switch group and strobo group with their abilities cannot be marveled
at, since there is no graphical representation on the user interface for
them. Registering is not planned right now. A full version is not yet
delivered. Since I am not sure about how to distribute the hardware
(own manufacturing, construction set, giving out layouts, or...) and the
hardware tests are not yet finished, this is delayed, since quality and
safety are #1 issues.

Aminet Status
Urban Mueller writes in dcsam that right now there is no way to say when
Aminet will be running again. Older files can be downloaded from the usual
servers, new uploads are still not exchanged between servers.
Reason for the trouble is that the main server in Paderborn has
been hacked, and has to be completely rebuild.
If Aminet should stay down for duration, the main server will be
transferred back to wuarchive, which would however take some time, too.

COOL bits Newsticker
Martin Strobl writes:
- first, despite the latest news from America (Gateway, Amiga Inc., Collas, etc.)
we will of course continue to support the Amiga :-)). If our business can remain
"Amiga only" (well, and a little bit Casablanca :-) ), is very uncertain currently,
however :-(. No matter what might be our new business, it won't be PC :-)))).
All in all, I think the future for the Amiga (or whatever it will be
called) lies in the PowerPC (603/604 - G3/G4). I don't believe anything usable will
come from Amiga Inc. any more :-(. I'd like to be convinced otherwise.
I recommend all Amiga users join the PPC movement, or at least wait
until the Amiga show (Home Electronics World) in November before deciding to change
platforms.
- our homepage is undergoing a complete restructuring right now, so there
are no updates for now. I home the new homepage to be online in about two weeks.
I'm on holiday this week, and won't be answering emails before it's over.
Our shop remains open, of course :-)

Eyelight development
Jochen Abitz writes:
Mage for AmigaPPC has been canceled. :(
Eyelight has released a demo of Gamma on their website: www.eyelight-it.com. The
development has been put on hold, and will only be continued if 500 people preorder
Gamma.
Here's the original text from the demo:
Gamedemo for CGX3Drave, (c)1999 Eyelight
This is a rather old "game-like" demo for CGX3Drave that showed off the
basics of Gamma, the 3D games construction kit from Eyelight. It requires a CVPPC
since the software engine we developed for CGX3D rave is not available to the
public.
Being completly unoptimized and running on 68K only, it still shows off
nicely what could have been possible with Gamma. Source code (in C but is actually a
direct translation from Golem, Eyelight's scripting language used in Tornado3D) that
creates the whole game is provided. As you can see it is rather simple, and the
scripting environment made Gamma easy to use even for people with no 3D graphics
programming experience.
Unfortunately Gamma has been canceled for the Amiga, due to the many
shakes the market suffered. If there is enough interest and at least 500 Amigans
pre-order Gamma for as low as 50.00 EURO/ US Dollars, we'll still produce it both in
68K and PPC versions.
