AmigaOS 4: OpenSSH 4.5p1-1
Steven Solie has compiled OpenSSH for AmigaOS 4. It is a free version of the SSH-protocol-suite which is supposed to give the users of Telnet, rlogin, ftp and similar clients more security on Internet by encoding all data inclusive password.

IRC-client: Wookiechat 2.4.1 beta 2
James Carroll has published a new beta version of his MUI-based IRC-clients Wookiechat for AmigaOS 3/4. Changes since the last publication:
- Attempt to fix up crashing when closing second networks
- Parting channels on the Serenity IRC network no longer crashes. This
network for some reason doesnt follow the IRC RFC exactly, and it was affecting Wookie badly.
- Beta 2: The ignore function now ignores /notice messages
- Beta 2: Testing new smaller tab sizes.

Hively Tracker: Alpha versionen for AmigaOS 3, possible MorphOS-port
For a little time the official website of the Chiptune-Tracker Hively Tracker (we reported) is online. According to the forum there several developers are testing an AmigaOS 3-version. A video which shows the Hively Tracker on an A4000 is already available. A MorphOS-port is possible, too.

Demoscene: "Mind Candy 2" DVD available
The DemoDVD project, which aims at compiling video DVD's of various demoscene productions, has completed its work on "Mind Candy 2" in the meantime.
Whereas the first DVD was directed at PC demos, the new video is devoted to Amiga demos. Included are 30 of the best Amiga demos from 15 years of demoscene development, according to the producer's statements. AmigaOne: Revised Linux kernel
Under the title link, a revised Linux kernel of version 2.6.16.35 for the AmigaOne was released by Gerhard Pircher as announced. Furthermore, the AmigaOne kernel 2.6.8 was changed again.
Changes:
- Recompiled the 2.6.8 kernel, as there was a minor bug in the platform setup code
- The 2.6.8 kernel includes modules for Mac-On-Linux 0.9.70:
I don't know if Mac OS X will work, but I was able to load the yaboot bootloader within MOL and the system didn't lock up
- The 2.6.16.35 kernel supports USB EHCI. Thanks again to Marcus Comstedt for the patch
- Removed the transfer request limit for IDE LBA48 devices:
Please report if you experience DMA timeout errors. I couldn't reproduce them, thus I hope the workaround is not needed anymore

AmigaOS 4: patch for using TD64 file systems
Fredrik Wikstrom's td64 patch enables the use of TD64 file systems under AmigaOS 4 - e.g. the 68k versions of the NTFileSystem or the
FATFileSystem.
The NSD device drivers of AmigaOS 4 (e.g. the a1ide.device) are modified in a way that they also support the TrackDisk64 standard
(TD64). The latter was suggested in 1996 by Ralph Babel and supported by a group
of developers; later on did Ralph Schmidt distribute such a patch for the FastFileSystem.
Both implementations, TD64 and NSD, are a 64 bit enhancement to read and write from/to harddisks bigger than 4 GB in size.
While TD64 had been used among others by phase 5 controllers became the New Style Device standard (NSD) by Heinz Wrobel under
AmigaOS 3.5 official part of the operating system.
With AmigaOS 4 the usage of NSD is kept upright and in MorphOS TD64 is continued.
With this background TD64 file systems - like the support of NTFS, EXT2, XFS and FAT created by Marek Szyprowski originally for MorphOS and
also for AmigaOS/68k released - couldn't be used
until now under AmigaOS 4.
Please note, though, that this is the first version of the td64patch and that the author hasn't made ample tests. The use is therefore at
one's own risk.

Programming language: PureBasic becomes freeware, sources partly released
The Amiga version of the BASIC dialect PureBasic isn't continued anymore so that the developer has decided to release the whole package as freeware and to make parts of the source code publicly available.
Released were the source code of the complete command set, the IDE (Integrated Develepment Environment) as well as the source codes for some tools.
The compiler is for all versions of PureBasic identical - as the Windows, Mac OS X and Linux versions are still distributed commercially theses source codes aren't available.
People who make improvements in the code of PureBasic are invited to make these available to the original developer so that they can be implemented in future Amiga versions. The PureBasic developer agrees to port the newest built of the compiler for such versions to the Amiga.

Game announcement: Business simulation "Dream Deal" for AmigaOS 4

Dream 17: Request for support
Dream 17 is a tribute to the game developers of Team 17 which are responsible for such titles like Worms or the Alien Breed serie. Additional to detailed information, screenshots and other specials at Dream 17 you can find all Amiga titles of the game developers for legal download.
Under the title link Dream 17 asks for support because in the next year the current server which was for free cannot be used any longer and a commercial one must be used.
The maintainers of the site ask for donations via PayPal to keep this offer alive.
Above all support is required for selling fan articles. Therefore somebody is needed who at least can create a vector graphic of the Dream 17 logo.

MUI Clone: AFA OS Zune 1.0 (final beta-test version)
Bernd Roesch has released an update to his AmigaOS 3 port of the MUI clone Zune (screenshot). Since Microsoft also offers a product called Zune now, the author has decided to distribute his project as "AFA OS Zune" (AOZ) from now on. AOZ can be used at the same time as MUI, no modifications are made to the MUI files.
In case no more errors emerge, the current version will be released as 1.0 (final). New in 1.0 (final beta-test version):
- Support for skins. The skin settings are included in the archive and can be loaded with the AOZ Prefs program. No bitmaps are used, so that the archive remains as small as possible.
- In order to use a program with AOZ instead of with MUI, you launch it as before and then launch the AOZ Promoter with CTRL+Shift+Z. With "Add Task," the task name of the MUI program is added to the Promoter database, whereby the corresponding application uses the AOZ libraries instead of MUI in the next launch.
Programmers who want to support AOZ should first try to open the zune.library. Should this fail, since, for instance, AOZ is not installed, then the muimaster.library should be used.
All sources and project files of AOZ are part of the archive, further information can be gathered from the accompanying Readme file.

AmigaOS 4: Vector-drawing program MindSpace 0.94
MindSpace is a drawing program with which flowcharts, UML diagrams (Unified Modeling Language), mindmaps or vector images can be created, among other things. Improvements in version 0.94:
- Loads more shapes useful for UML and ER diagrams
- User MSOs: just in case the shape you need isn't there - you can very easily create it yourself and add it to the interface. MindSpace even knocks up a quick icon for you.
- Improved svg, png and pdf output (registered users only)

PSPUAE is a port of the known Amiga emulator E-UAE for Sony's portable games console PSP. Changes in version 0.62:

AROS for AmigaOS: AFA OS 3.94.1
Bernd Roesch's project "AROS for AmigaOS" is an extension of AmigaOS 3.9 that uses libraries that were ported back from AROS. New in version 3.94.1:
- In AFA prefs ENVARC: gets an entry in the directory field of the file requester when doing "Save Prefs". This should solve the problem that the correct directory is shown but the file is saved in the current directory.
- The text function uses now an own stack and not the task stack. As Truetype fonts with antialiasing need a bigger stack and the input.device stack is used for the drawing of BOOPSI classes (or by patches such as Birdie or VisualPrefs) there's no risk anymore that the input.device stack can overflow.

Web-Browser: IBrowse 2.4 will be published soon
According to the developers of the MUI-based Web-Browser IBrowse the next update will be published soon. Version 2.4 will be finished "during the next weeks".
IBrowse 2.4 will be provided as free update for registered users. Several bugs have been fixed and the next version has some news, too. For instance a plugin-interface and context-sensitive mouse pointer.
Version 2.4 will be offered only for AmigaOS 3 but the Javascript engine is also available in a version compiled for AmigaOS 4.

AmigaOS 4: HivelyTracker
HivelyTracker is a tracker based on the AHX-format (screenshot). AHX was developed in the 90es to write music tracks similar to the typical chip-sound of the SID (sound-Chip of the C64).
HivelyTracker can import and export modules and instruments in AHX-format but will save them in a seperate format which offers additional possibilities. Compared to AHX HivelyTracker offers the following advantages:
- Multichannel (4 to 16 channels)
- Per-channel stereo panning
- Two commands per note instead of one
- Ring modulation
- A more feature rich editor

Linux: OpenSuse 10.2
The OpenSuse-project has released version 10.2 of its linux distribution. Compared to the previous release the look was renewed and bugs were fixed.

AmigaOne: Revised Linux 2.6.8-Kernel
Under the title link Gerhard Pircher has released a reworked linux kernel of version 2.6.8 for the AmigaOne. A patch for the source code package of this kernel version from the distribution Debian Sarge is available as well.
A revised kernel of version 2.6.16.x should be completed within the next two weeks and contain drivers for EHCI and the pc speaker.
Changes:
- Highmem support is working: You can remove the memory limit in U-boot now
- EHCI support removed: The EHCI driver doesn't work on the AmigaOne due to the non coherent cache DMA workaround and I was to lazy to backport a workaround which was contributed by Marcus Comstedt. Many thanks to him for this patch
- DRI graphics drivers removed: These drivers were removed, thus you can enable the glx extension of the X server again
- ISA bridge tweaks: Recently I experienced problems with USB on my A1, too. Therefore I tried to weak the settings of the VIA southbridge (to match the settings done by OS4). This seems to help a little bit, but after some time the system locks up again. I'm still not sure what the real problem is, but I guess it's either the unfixed CPU bug or an interrupt problem.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a response from the (responsible) OS4 developer(s), so I can't really do anything about this. (I remember sg2 writing about a software problem with the i8259 PIC. I would be grateful, if he could enlighten me)

Strategy game Battle for Wesnoth 1.1.13 (AmigaOS 4) and 1.1.12 (MorphOS)
Battle for Wesnoth is a round based fantasy strategical. The AmigaOS 4 port is done by Fredrik Wikstrom, the MorphOS version by Fabien Coeurjoly. Version 1.1.13 for AmigaOS 4 includes many minor changes which are listed at the readme.

New SimpleCat beta version published
The translator tool SimpleCat was released today in version 3.00 beta 31 for classic Amiga, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS. This version introduces a new basic function to the user interface: The source code scanner.
With the source code scanner, it is possible to create a reasonable catalog file from a source code with a few clicks. In addition, the scanner allows modification of the source code.
The effort to localize programs is limited to loading in the source code and removing the unwanted texts.

Amiga Club Hamburg opens up to alternative systems
In its last general meeting, the Amiga Club Hamburg has decided that the ACH is opening up to other alternative computer systems. Systems like Mac OS X or Linux, for example, as well as generally all other systems apart from the mainstream Microsoft Windows, fall among these.
The background of this decision is the ever-stagnating number of Amiga users in the Hamburg area as well as the ever-waning number of members who show up at the regular meeting on Monday.

New windows drivers for Catweasel
press release After the last update about three months ago, we mainly received bug reports that referred to writing Amiga disks. The errors could not be reproduced on our test systems immediately, therefore the solution took longer than we wanted our customers to wait. Many thanks must go to customers who patiently reported bugs and helped us test the new drivers. The new beta version (now a release candidate) can be downloaded for free from our support page.
The cause for the error that has been finally resolved was the floppy drives that are currently available on the PC market, where DD-disks practically do not exist any more. These drives have been extremely optimised for low production cost. We know about one drive that does not work with DD-disks (720K, 880K) any more, it's the Samsung SFD-321B.
The re-configurable architecture of the Catweasel MK4 allows hardware updates through the driver. We found a possibility to write DD-disks with such disk drives. However, they cannot be verified or read with that kind of drives, but they can be read with most DD drives in classic Amiga computers. This lets you use the drives temporarily until you can install a recommended true dual-mode drive, for example by Teac. One thing that you should avoid is writing HD disks with DD density.
Some customers wanted to connect 5,25-inch drives with 360K capacity to the Catweasel. The imagetool now allows the necessary configuration for that. Last not least, a problem with the middle and right mouse buttons of an Amiga mouse has been resolved.

Graphic program: PerfectPaint 2.93-8
Marco "Blackbird" Möring has published another update for PerfectPaint. In the current version the graphical user-interface as well as the menus now use the system routines (screenshot). The font which is used by the program can be changed and additionally several bugs were fixed.
You can find further information as well as important hints to the installation in the distribution archive.

MorphOS: SimpleView 1.8
Tom 'Amigaharry' Duin has released version 1.8 of his picture viewer SimpleView for Morphos under the title link.

Open Aladdin 4D: Status Update

Geoffrey Charras pdf book around the Pegasos-platform, the "Pegasos Book", is available as version 2.2. An article for the installation of the Linux-distribution Fedora Core 6 was added as well as small supplements.

The C Book: Amended version now part of Cubic IDE
Press release An amended version of the freely available "The C Book" (amiga-news.de reported), originally published by Addison Wesley, is now available as e-book for Amiga developers. This revision is released as part of Cubic IDE and puts a rich source of information at programmers' fingertips. The book covers C90 and C99 on about 100 pages.
The book is integrated into Cubic, bookmarks below source codes provide direct access to chapters and topics: Screenshot.
This book and the Cubic IDE development environment are a great way for you to learn C: You can browse through chapters and try out contained example code directly in Cubic. The small examples in the book can be compiled with the free version of Cubic. The order of topics in this book is similar to the order that is taught in a typical C course.

Self-made project: Photos of an A500 extended to an A2000
Already two years ago Daniele Gratteri extended his Amiga 500 with a 68040 turbo card which was originally meant for an Amiga 2000 as well as with Zorro II-slots.
According to him this project was successful. You can find photos as well as English explanations on the homepage of Daniele Gratteri. As soon as he has more time he wants to use a video-slot, too.

Development environment: SimpleCat plugin for Cubic IDE
SimpleCat is a program for maintaining catalogs (tanslations). It offers more features than the cat program of the AmigaOS and MorphOS SDK: Powerful import and export functions, validity checks and a graphical user interface make the life of developers easier and the program first choice for translators.
The add-on for Cubic (Screenshot) integrates SimpleCat into the interface of the development environment, with syntax highlighting for translations and clickable log files. SimpleCat was developed by Guido Mersman and the latest version is included with kind permission of the author.

PPC-Hardware: Interviews with the developers of Sam440 and Panda
The author of the UAE-distribution AmiKit has published two interviews on his website. The Italian Amiga-distributor Massimiliano Tretene answered questions to Sam440, while Andreas Loong from gurumeditation.se told about his Panda-project.
