PiStorm: Video zeigt aktuellen Entwicklungsstand
Claude Schwarz' 'PiStorm' verbindet einen Raspberry Pi mittels Adapter mit dem CPU-Sockel in einem A500, A1000 oder A2000 und nutzt den britischen Einplatinenrechner um einen schnellen m68k-Prozessor zu emulieren. Im Gegensatz zum Buffee-Projekt wo der 68k-Emulator direkt auf der Hardware läuft, kommt bei PiStorm eine Linux-basierte Lösung zum Einsatz (wir berichteten).
In einem vor zwei Tagen veröffentlichten YouTube-Video, das bereits knapp 25.000 Aufrufe verzeichnet, erläutert der YouTuber Neil aka 'RMCRetro' den aktuellen Stand des Projekts und zeigt exemplarisch die Inbetriebnahme des PiStorm in einem A500. In kurzen Stichpunkten möchten wir die wichtigsten Informationen zusammenfassen:
Aktuell läuft die Einrichtung des PiStorm durch Nutzung eines zweiten PC über WiFi und einer Remote-Verbindung (hier mittels Putty). Zukünftig soll dieser Einrichtungsprozess stark vereinfacht werden, in dem die benötigten Dateien direkt auf die SD-Karte geschrieben werden.
Im aktuellen Beispiel wurde ein A500 mit einer 68020 CPU, 128 MB RAM und Kickstart 1.3 eingerichtet. Allerdings kann durch einfache Auswahl anderer Kickstart-Dateien zwischen verschieden ROM-Versionen umgeschaltet werden, womit auch 2.04 oder 3.1 einfach nutzbar sind. Diese Konfigurationssätze können separat abgespeichert werden. Ebenso kann statt einer 68020, eine 68030 oder 680040 CPU verwendet werden, was nicht zu höher Schnelligkeit führt, sondern zusätzliche Befehle entsprechend des Prozessors bereitstellt. Für verschiedene Spiele oder Software ist das aus Kompatibilitätsgründen wichtig.
Erste Schnelligkeitstest mit SysInfo: Bei Auswahl des Kick 1.3 war die Schnelligkeit sogar langsamer als die eines 68000, aber nach Umschalten auf Kickstat 3.1 nähert sich die Geschwindigkeit einem 68040/25.
Größte Überraschung war die Festplattengeschwindigkeit: PiStorm 715 MB/s, zum Vergleich eine Vampire 4 Standalone mit 10MB/s.
Offensichtlichster Schnelligkeitsgewinn: Die Amiga Workbench wird innerhalb von 3 Sekunden geladen.
Diverse Spieletests, unter anderem mit "Frontier": Kein Ruckeln.
Mit der neuesten Emulatorversion ist die direkte Kommuniktion zwischen Pi und Amiga möglich. Bedeutet: Einstellungen können von der Workbench als natives Programm vorgenommen werden.
An einer RTG Grafikkartendarstellung wird gearbeitet, wobei zu bedenken ist, dass das Signal immer noch aus dem RGB-Port des Amigas kommt.
Das PiStorm-Team arbeitet an einer Variante, das RGB-Signal des Grafikchips Denise in den WebCam-Port des Pi zu speisen, dann mit den RTG-Daten zu mischen und das alles an den HDMI-Port zu senden, so dass auch moderne Monitore angeschlossen werde können.
Veranstaltung: AmiWest 2021 (16./17. Oktober in Sacramento, USA)
Am 16. und 17. Oktober 2021 soll die 24. AmiWest im Holiday Inn Express in Sacramento, Kalifornien, stattfinden. Laut den Organisatoren war die kombinierte Online- und Präsenzveranstaltung im letzten Jahr so ein großer Erfolg, dass dieses Format in diesem Jahr wiederholt werden soll. Dafür haben die ersten Aussteller bereits zugesagt: Ein MorphOS-Nutzer, nicht zum Entwicklerteam gehörend, wird verschiedene MorphOS-Systeme vorstellen, auf denen unter anderem der Browser Wayfarer, das Email-Programm Iris und weitere Software gezeigt werden soll. Ebenso hat Doug Compton, Produzent des wöchentlichen "10+ Minutes AMIGA Retro Cast", seine Teilnahme zugesagt. Er leitete im letzten Jahr die sonntägliche Diskussion über sieben Stunden lang online aus Arizona. Auch wird ein Mitglied des veranstaltenden SACC-Klubs und Mitgründer der AmiWest teilnehmen, der als AmigaOne X5000-Betatester aktiv ist. (dr)
Hyperion: Installer-Bugfix für AmigaOS 4
Hyperion Entertainment hat die Version 53.12 (10.5.2021) des Installers veröffentlicht, die mittels AmiUpdate innerhalb von AmigaOS 4 geladen werden kann. Damit wird ein Fehler bereinigt, der offensichtlich vor allem bei der Installation der letzten Version des Enhancer 2-Pakets auftrat.

AmiExpress 5 ist ein von Darren Coles in Amiga E verfasster Rewrite des Original-Mailbox-Programms von Joe Hodge/LightSpeed Technologies. Neben diversen Fehlerbereinigungen unterstützt die Version 5.4.0 nunmehr das YModem- und ZModem-Protokoll. Außerdem wurde die FTP-Authentifizierung und ein Shortcut-Modus implementiert. (dr)
Rundenbasierte Weltraum-Strategie: Imperium Terranum 2.816
Der Quelltext des rundenbasierten Weltraum-Strategiespiels Imperium Terranum 2 wird seit einiger Zeit von Pascal nach C portiert und an Grafikkarten angepasst. Seit der Version 2.813 wurden wieder einige kleinere Fehler beseitigt und die Paketgröße weiter reduziert:

Entwickler "Coagulus" (Super Wormy, JetHunt) hat drei weitere Titel in Arbeit, von denen er frühe Versionen bei Youtube vorstellt: Chases of Death (Video) ist eine Umsetzung des Spectrum-Kassikers Deathchase, bei Swapped Arts (Video) scheint es sich um ein Puzzlespiel zu handeln während die Fortsetzung des H.E.R.O.-Klons JetHunt namens 'JetHuntERS' (Video) sich offenbar mehr Richtung horizontal scrollendes Shoot'em Up entwickelt.
