Amiga emulator for MacOS: vAmiga 2.1b2
By releasing version 2.0 (amiga-news.de reported), developer Dirk Hoffmann has started the beta phase of version 2.1 of his Amiga emulator vAmiga for MacOS and has just released the second beta version. Changes:
Enhancements:
- Added NTSC support
- Kickstart 3.2.1 (Hyperion) is a recognised Rom now
Bug fixes:
- No more graphics glitches in DPaint IV overscan modes
- Null modem cable is no longer broken
- No more graphics glitches in Seven seas by Andromeda
- ShowConfig utility (Hyperion) does no longer crash with Kickstart 3.2
- Fixed an error in the Hunk parser
Refactoring:
- Now the line drawing code is invoked at the beginning of the HBLANK area

RTG driver: P96 V3.3.1 released
Jens Schönfeld (individual Computers) has released version 3.3.1 of his RTG driver P96, which can be bought or downloaded from the order history at iComp. This is again a minor service release providing the following features:
- The Cirrus5434.chip driver was broken (Piccollo64, Matze's graphics card) and did not switch back from direct color modes to chunky modes.
- One release of UAE had an issue by indicating that it would support mode mixing, but forgot to provide the necessary call-backs in some configurations. P96 provides now default call-backs avoiding the crash.
- Bitmap handling was simplified and streamlined.
- The Visiona driver supports now panning and interlace.
- The installer places now the P96 version into ENVARC:Picasso96/Version so you know what you have on the system.
- The installer no longer provides wrong default selections for the available boards in case the list of installed boards requires more than one page.
- The installer makes a very tiny consistency check on the unpacked files as some people unpacked on the PC, and then protection bits were incorrect.

Contest: Amiga Art Contest 2022
The "Amiga Art Contest 2022" (video) is organized by the Youtuber channel 10 Minute Amiga Retrocast and the graphics artist Kevin Saunders. Participants can submit their works in the categories of "Hand-drawn Artwork", "Digital Photography", "3D/Ray Tracing", "MOD/Music" and "Animation" (submissions of the previous years 2019, 2020 and 2021).
Only works created or (in the case of digital photographs) edited on an Amiga (real or emulated) are eligible. Deadline for entries is October 11, winners will be announced in an episode of the Youtube show "10 Minute Amiga Retrocast". (dr)

AmigaOS 4: Spreadsheet ignition 1.20, update of OpenDocument plugins
Achim Pankalla has released version 1.20 of the spreadsheet ignition which at least requires AmigaOS 4.1 update 6. Many bugs and problems have been solved and some minor new functions added. For example:
- Zoomen with ctrl and mousewheel
- Old column/row title will be displayed if they are not standard
- 22 new functions
- correct/update some functions
- correct some error
- turbocalc add-on extend and corrected
- some changes in the manual
The ods-addon was reworked as well. The addon allows loading and saving tables in OpenDocument format, which is used in LibreOffice/OpenOffice Calc among others.
Changes in ign-ods-addon 0.35:
- add new functions og ignition
- correct the problem, which appears after save a ods-file

Real-time strategy: Vanilla Conquer with 'Mission Pack' support
Artur Jarosik is known for various game ports like the platformer Hydra Castle Labyrinth or the action adventure Heart of Darkness besides his SDL implementation of the browser NetSurf. As a contribution for the AmiGameJam he started to port the first part of the realtime strategy series Command & Conquer to the Amiga and named it "Vanilla Conquer" (amiga-news.de reported).
Today the developer has added support for mission packs and by that 15 new missions and seven new music tracks. The game is intended for Amigas equipped with Apollo/Vampire V4 or PiStorm/Emu-68 expansions.

Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine V2022.4
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan allows you to develop games. The engine itself is closed source, all demos and example games are open source. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, levels created by using the editor Tiled eingesetzt. For importing and creating sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats (mod, 8svx, anim5) are used.
A few moments ago he has relesaed version 2022.4 with the following changes:
- New sample: AlarCity title screen
- New sample: Vertical Parallax AGA
- New sample: Render modes and palettes
- Rendermodes for making actors blink, flash etc
- "NoClear" option for effects requiring that BOBs aren't cleared after being blitted
- Vastly improved real time palette manipulation
- "Parallax locked" movement type for creating objects that are tied to the parallax background
- Ability to link sounds to levels (so they're loaded and unloaded with those specific levels)
- Rewrite of the codeblocks virtual machine for improved performance
- Lots of bug fixes and other minor improvements

Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 3.8 of his web browser Wayfarer for MorphOS which, additional to a bug fix, introduces basic drag & drop of web elements of a website.

The #amigazeux team has released the Commodity MouseSpotter, which helps to find the mouse pointer again by simply pressing a hotkey if you have lost sight of it.

Farming simulation: Farmiga
The Polish developer 'Tukinem' is writing a farming simulation in AMOS, which he has named 'Farmiga':
Various vegetables and cereals have to be grown, sold at the market and cows or chickens bought with the money earned. The last update on 4 June added a new graphic design, an intro and a selection screen for saving and loading, as well as German and English menu navigation. Music is still missing.
The author has tested his game on an Amiga equippd with Kickstart 3.1.4, 512kB Chip RAM and 2MB Fast RAM. (dr)

Hollywood addon: Remedios 1.2 released
Airsoft Softwair has released version 1.2 of Remedios. Remedios allows Hollywood scripts to be compiled as standalone apps for iOS and iPadOS. Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.10
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.9, which allows the development of games from various genres (see short tests of two Redpill games). RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM.
The new version 0.9.10 offers besides numerous improvements and fixes now support for AGA fetch modes, which allow the Amiga chips to work in bigger chunks, making graphics operations faster:
- EXPERIMENTAL: Fetch mode can be set in the Screen menu for AGA games: Normal,
Double and Quadruple fetch modes are supported.
- Increased Fetch modes can improve game speed, specially in machines without
fastram.
- With higher fetch modes, funny effects could happen when using sprites or
changing the screen width of the screen.
- Resize of the map dimensions now can automatic replace the tiles to the new
dimensions.
- Multiple WHDload slaves added:

- Set Sprite Pos will ignore parameters with coordinates less than -1000. This way you can set up just x or y coodinate.
- Action Set NTSC moved to General category.
- In Level Objects screen you can select snap to tile to move objects only in tile exact coordinates.
- In Level screen you can import and export maps in CVS format.
- General optimization.
- When an object is attached to mouse movement now it takes into account the scrolling area.
- Fix in camara not reaching end of the level with reduced screen widths.
- Fix in brush width and height when using the tile shortcuts.

MorphOS: Bounty for improved OpenGL support and new graphics card driver
MorphOS team developer Mark 'Bigfoot' Olsen offers a Bounty project for improved OpenGL support as well as drivers for more Radeon graphics cards under the title link. Support for the R600, R700, Evergreen and Northern Island chips would open up many commonly available PCI Express graphics cards, such as those that would be usable in the Sam460, X5000 and PowerMac G5.
Completion is promised within three months at the latest after full financing. So far, almost one fifth of the required eight thousand euros has been donated. Donations can be made directly by bank transfer or via PayPal in Euros, British Pounds, US and Canadian Dollars. Those who wish to support in another currency can contact Mark Olsen - otherwise please support him by accepting the exchange fees in Euros.

Do it yourself: Amiga 500 Mod PCB project (HDMI, DF0/DF1, low-pass filter)
Jeremy Parker's Amiga 500 Mod PCB project provides, among other things, a Raspberry Pi used as an RGB-to-HDMI converter with an HDMI output on the back of the Amiga 500. A small switch allows access to the menu of the single-board computer.
Two further switches are used to integrate a DF0/DF1 switch or to define the low-pass filter. (snx)

Bridgeboard program: Viaduct 1.5
Karoly Balogh's Viaduct is a clone of Commodore's PCWindow for displaying PC-side graphics output on Amiga systems with a bridgecard. His replacement was written for faster Amigas equipped with graphics cards. Version 1.5 now supports ToolTypes and is localized, supported so far are Hungarian, German and English. Also the documentation has been transferred to AmigaGuide format.

Amigas in films: Amiga 1000 in fourth season of Stranger Things

Jump'n Run: Second demo version of 'Duckstroma' released
At the beginning of May a first playable demo of the Jump'n Run 'Duckstroma' was released (amiga-news.de reported). Due to the upcoming release of the full version, a second demo version is now available, which provides small improvements.
In 'Duckstroma', as duck Aura you have the order to deliver eight floppy disks to a customer. To fend off all sorts of hostile enemies, you can jump on weak opponents and lay an egg to reach higher places (YouTube video). The game requires 1MB of RAM. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: http-handler 1.11
16 years ago the first version of the http-handler published by Chris Young was released, what amiga-news.de reported about. The day before yesterday the developer released the "jubilee version" 1.11 (Queen Elizabeth II) which now supports AmiSSL 5. His http-handler provides a virtual drive "HTTP:" which can be used to access resources on the Internet. Features of the handler:
- Allows access to web-hosted files via a virtual HTTP: device.
- Also supports secure sites with AmiSSL and a virtual HTTPS: device.
- Basic authentication supported using an addressing scheme like "http://user:pass()www.domain.com"
- Supports Open(), Read(), Close() and Seek().
- Implements HTTP redirects (301,302,307) as soft-links - even works with redirects that point to local files.
- Optionally supports gzip content-encoding for faster download times, if z.library is installed.
- Will work through a proxy server.
- Can connect to HTTP services running on ports other than the default.
4Shortly after the release of the first version, the developer had conducted a survey on WebDAV support. Based on the positive feedback, he started implementing it, which originally resulted in version 2 - which he initially abandoned at the time - and later 3. However, as he tells us, he lost support for the other protocols in these versions, which is why a WebDAV beta version 6 was released, which is available on Open Amiga. (dr)
