Kultpower.de - server move and new AmigaJoker reviews
Kultpower.de is now placed on a much bigger server (resp. in
a bigger package at the provider), this should solve the problems with shortage
of webspace and restricted data transfer for a longer period of time.
Therefore can all review articles, that will be released from now on,
be made available in better quality (less compression).
There are also at once 22 new AmigaJoker reviews taken from the issues

Bundesliga Manager Professional, Cruise for a Corpse, Die Kathedrale,
Eye of the Beholder, Gunboat, Hunter, James Pond 2, Kings Quest 5,
Knights of the Sky, Life and Death, Lotus Turbo Challenge 2, Magic
Pockets, Manchester United Europe, Mega lo Mania, R-Type 2, Silent
Service 2, The Return of Medusa, Thunderhawk, Utopia. With these there are now
already 79 AmigaJoker reviews of Amiga classics.
Besides that you can now find in the AmigaJoker database for every game a direct
link to the details of the game at the games museum "The Legacy".
For all fans of non Amiga classics there are new PowerPlay reviews taken from
the issues 11/94 and 1/95:
Colonization (MS-DOS), CreatureShock (MS-DOS CD-ROM), DawnPatrol
(MS-DOS CD-ROM), Earthsiege (MS-DOS), Ecstatica (MS-DOS), HellonEarth
(MS-DOS), IronAssault (MS-DOS CD-ROM), KingsQuest7 (Windows CD-ROM),
Lemmings3 (MS-DOS), Lollypop (MS-DOS), MasterofMagic (MS-DOS), PoliceQuest4
(MS-DOS CD-ROM), SystemShock (MS-DOS), U.S.NavyFighter (MS-DOS CD-ROM),

Music: ProStationAudio Millenium
September 2001: ProStationAudio Millenium, T8 and Remix compatible
with SoundBlaster PCI boards.
ProStationAudio is successfully working with Creative's SoundBlaster PCI
boards installed on Mediator busboards, under AmigaOS.
The software has just passed tests at an audio production
facility, under daily working conditions. The test setup
includes a Mediator PCI busboard, SoundBlaster 128 PCI, and
VooDoo graphic card for displaying the ultra-hi-res PSA GUI.
Mediator 1200 PCI busboard
Audio hardware is accessed via AHI, drivers for additional
Creative's models are due soon (SoundBlaster Live! to start
with) by the busboard makers.
Elbox, makers of Mediator, confirm also that the PCI busboard
supports installing two PCI graphic cards. ProStationAudio
can take advantage of two display cards (and two monitors)
for increased productivity. This feature, already supported
for Zorro graphic cards, is now available also for PCI
boards.
ProStationAudio is the reference audio editing/mastering
software for AmigaOS. With this new developemnt on PCI
hardware the range of supported hardware now includes:
- Draco
- Amiga with one or two CPU, up to two graphic cards, two
monitors and any AHI-compatible audio card or stock audio
chip. Graphic and audio cards can be on Zorro or PCI busses.
ProStationAudio supports also non-AHI pro cards such as the
SoundStagePro DSP and provides direct access to NewTek Flyer,
Sunrize Studio16 and Digidesign SD audio files, beside standard
Amiga, Apple, Windows and Unix audio files includig MP3.
Informations on other PCI busboard options, such as the G-Rex
specific for PPC accelerators owners, will be published as
soon as audio drivers will be released by hardware makers.
ProStationAudio is fully hardware independent and will work
with any audio board, PCI or Zorro, provided AHI drivers are
available from hardware vendors.

CD32 Games Install Kit v4.5 released
The CD32 Games Install Kit v4.5 was just released on
the Airsoft Softwair homepage (title link).
This is the first public version of the program since
version 3.9. Until now, versions 4.0 to 4.5 were only
available for owners of the The Best Of Airsoft Softwair
Gold Edition but now the InstallKit is available as
Shareware again. The demo version can be downloaded from
the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
Since version 3.9 many things have been changed:
For example there is now a MUI GUI, the stability of Install2001
was increased and much more games are supported now, for
example Simon the Sorcerer with talkie soundtrack. Also
the integrated emulator which runs games straight from
the CD was greatly improved. Additionally the InstallKit
can now be ordered by credit card through RegNet. And finally
there is now an own section on the Airsoft Softwair homepage
which covers information about the program (in the products section).

Spiegel: Q33NY
Like probably many others I have just received a private mail which
points out something truly macabre: if you open a new document in Microsoft
Word, enter the alleged flight number of one of the machines which were
steered into the World Trade Center, Q33NY, and set font 'Windings'
in size 48, something incredible could be seen. I have made some investigation
on the web and found an interesting German article by 'Spiegel online'
which you can read at the title link. The flight number Q33NY is wrong,
and it is no hidden message but black demagogy.

H&P: news about AmigaOS XL

Discussion forums
19. Sept. 2001: with the beginning of this week we created two discussion forums
at Yahoogroups. First you have to register at Yahoogroups (groups.yahoo.com or groups.yahoo.de) and than subscribe to the
group. The subscribing is only possible via groups.yahoo.com (just enter there
amigaxl or amithlon in the search field) because the national access doesn't know
these groups. A real stupid error of Yahoogroups.
Important hint: we recommend to discuss all questions in the group amigaxl as
most of the people certainly can't know which emulator they'll use. More
comprehensive instructions will follow tomorrow.
The dealing with the questions runs at full speed.

WinUAE Homepage (ANF)
|
Emulator: WinUAE 0.8.17 release 1
Since yesterday is in download area of the WinUAE
homepage the WinUAE 0.8.17 release 1 available.
Changes made in version WinUAE 0.8.17 release 1:
- FIXED: Various AGA and chipset-related fixes. (Bernd#1, Toni Wilen)
- FIXED: .GZ support in floppy dialog doesn't cause corruption. (Timothy)
- FIXED: Updated sprite-collision logic which fixes Leander, Archon 1 and 2,
Menace, etc. (Toni)
- FIXED: Updated disk-emulation code, for higher compatability. Also now
supports .fdi and high-density .adf images. (Toni, Adil Temel)
- FIXED: 60Hz support in Dynablaster and BC Kid (Toni Wilen)
- FIXED: BSD-Socket emulation is mostly working, although bugs still exist.
(Bernd#3)
- FIXED: Picasso96 screens smaller than their display-mode would have crap
in their left-hand-border if you grabbed the screen's title-bar and
moved the screen to the right.
- FIXED: Updated copy of rtg.library, including more patches. (Bernd#3)
- FIXED: You can set the WinUAE resolution in full-screen to whatever you
desire. Especially useful so that you set your full-screen size to
match your desktop size, and it will prevent all your desktop icons
from moving around after exitting WinUAE. (me, Georg)
- FIXED: Stupid sound_channels=0 stuff in config-files works properly.
- FIXED: Stupid gfx_center_xxx=yes/no stuff in config-files works properly.
- FIXED: Selecting an item in the Hard Drives page of the GUI and then
moving its position in the list now leaves the item highlighted.
- FIXED: Detect OS version early, and inform the user appropriately instead
of crashing. Windows NT is no longer a supported OS for WinUAE.
- FIXED: Various little off-by-one pixel errors in the GUI.
- FIXED: MIDI in/out lists in the Ports page of GUI were behaving strangely.
- FIXED: Floppy-disc emulation change to allow Shadow of the Beast Trainer
to work. (Toni Wilen)
- FIXED: Small change in MIDI support so that closing MIDI and then
reopening it will work properly. (Bernd Roesch)
- FIXED: Call ahi_install in main.c. No Amiga-side AHI driver yet.
- FIXED: MIDI-input doesn't have the concept of a "default device", unlike
MIDI-output. Changed the GUI and programming accordingly.
- FIXED: MIDI-output now does the right things with the serial-port after
each written byte, which allows some other programs to finally
work (MusicX, Deluxe Music, etc.)
- ADDED: New hook function in uaelib for checking on removable drive state.
- ADDED: Disk-change status is now tracked via WM_DEVICECHANGE notifications
which allows "run >nil: uaediskchange cd0:" in the startup-sequence
to work properly. Eject a CD-ROM, and the Amiga knows about it.
Insert a new CD-ROM, and the Amiga knows about it. Woo-hoo!
NOTE: Probably really buggy.
- ADDED: New collision-modes, fast-copper mode (not save-able with config).
- ADDED: State-save support. (Toni Wilen)
- ADDED: Option in Sound page of GUI to enable/disable synchronized sound.
- ADDED: Printing of DDCAPS info for display-driver, to help diagnostics.
- ADDED: FDI disk-image support (Toni Wilen)
- CHANGED: Tweaked the sound-code yet again, hopefully will get less out of
sync. (Jose Gil, myself)
- CHANGED: Add PC Drives no longer adds the floppy-drives. If you want access
to A:, then you'll have to add it manually in the GUI.
- CHANGED: Added ability to allocate larger amount of ZorroIII memory.
(Bernd#3)
- CHANGED: Added ability to allocate larger amount of RTG (Picasso96) memory.
(Bernd#3)
- CHANGED: Removed Vertical Blank Synchronization (VSync) support in Flip
calls. This should increase synchronization and performance in
full-screen mode, but may introduce some tearing/artifacting.
- CHANGED: Use the system "hand" cursor when pointing at web-links in the
About page (if available). (Oscar Sillani)
- CHANGED: Use Tahoma font in About page of GUI.
- CHANGED: Use up/down icons in the HardDisk page of GUI. (Oscar Sillani)

Strategy game: Knights and Merchants (Mac) shipping
Realtime strategic economy simulation Knights and Merchants is now shipping
for the Mac. Knights and Merchants recreates the era of the Middle Ages. The
player takes on the role of an ordinary captain in the king's Palace guard

You, the player, must win back all those provinces which once belonged to
your king. You have to manufacture different products, making use of
numerous buildings and producer goods of the Middle Ages period. One result
of your productive labor is the manufacturing of weapons and armor. But your

Virus Help Denmark: xfdmaster.library Version 39.13
Dirk Stöcker updated his xfdmaster.library which is very important, since almost
any antivirus software requires it for unpacking and archiving before and after
virus tests. Here are the details:
Name: xfdmaster.library v39.13
Archive name: xfdmaster.lha
Archive size: 163.510 Bytes
Release date: 17. September 2001
Programmer: Dirk Stöcker
Xfdmaster.library info:
The XFD system is for single file decrunching. It can be compared to
XAD system, which is for file extraction from archives! They do
different work, but are used together often.
This software package allows you to decrunch almost every packed file
known on the Amiga. It consists of the xfdmaster.library as the brain
and a couple of programs that offer certain functions to the user.
The xfdmaster.library is a standard Amiga shared, runtime library. It
works with Kickstart V33+ and offers applications the possibility to
directly support any crunched files.
Other than the predecessor decrunch.library, the xfdmaster.library has
a more flexible interface, offers the possibility to decrunch already
loaded program segments, supports external decrunchers, is able to
unlink 4EB9/4EF9- and text-linked files and can scan for crunched data
in any memory area.

Card reader/writer news
Carsten Siegner wrote:
Today, slightly delayed, I have now tested my card reader/writer with Sony
memory sticks. These run as expected very good and I can access them like a hard
disk.
Some users say that the device would be too expensive. These users have to
consider that they'll own a universal key for all mobile digital devices.
These are among others digital video cams (especially those of Sony), digital
photo cameras (all cameras with card slot) and MP3 players (with card slot).
Additionally, I can imagine that in conjunction with IBM microdrives these
drives may be used for data exchange between laptops and Amiga. (Because of a
lack of money I wasn't able to test this yet).
A user asked whether compact flash cards would work, too. This can be answered
clearly with "YES".
Boot ability of memory cards:
Not tested yet but theoretically possible as I use mount lists to access the
memory cards.
A RDB block cannot be written on the cards as they have always to be formatted
in photo cameras or MP3 players.
This is absolutely necessary because of compatibility reasons though you
may probably be able to format these memory cards with an Amiga file system,
too.

H&P: AmigaOS XL for x86
Under the title link you can find the promised details regarding AmigaOS XL,
two new Amiga emulators for x86 computers that are offered in a double pack.
Here's an exerpt:
AMIthlon - The fastest Amiga ever
Insert the CD-ROM, switch on your PC and boot into the fastest Amiga ever. There
is no complicated and boring installation. The development team of Harald Frank
(VMC) and Bernd Meyer even implemented native support for nVidia and Matrox
graphics cards providing maximum graphics performance. Opening windows on the
Workbench is so fast that you can barely watch it anymore.
With AMIthlon you can even use your old Amiga hard-disk in your PC. Simply
connect it to your PC, start AMIthlon and that's it.
AmigaXL for QNX - The most functional Amiga ever
The host operating system for AmigaXL is QNX 6.1. It is included in the package.
QNX has many similarities with the AmigaOS. It has a micro kernel and the
drivers are separate processes. Like devices and handlers in AmigaOS these can
be dynamically started and stopped. This makes the system extremely light weight
and resource efficient.
Features that QNX provides can directly be used within the emulated Amiga. This
includes network functionality and multimedia features. QNX applications like
the web browser Opera® can be started directly from the AmigaOS screen. One can
say both operating systems work together seamlessly.
System requirements:
Athlon-, Duron, Pentium-, Celeron-CPU with 500 MHz or more. AmigaOS XL supports
usual graphic, sound and network cards. A complete list is available on our
homepage amigaxl.haage-partner.de
or www.amithlon.com.
Availability: The delivery will start about 41st week. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Stock exchange software: Bonds V1.83 available (update)
The version 1.83 of the stock exchange software Bonds is available. Some smaller
bugs have been removed. Major improvement of the package is that there exists finally
an installer script. The NewInstaller by AirsoftSoftware is used to get an
appropriate scale. The tool "KursUpdater" is from now on not needed anymore as
Bonds now contains the shell option "JUSTUPDATE", and therefore makes the
updater needless.
Update 15.09.2001:
Sven Dröge wrote:
Unfortunately had the archive Bonds.lha on my webpage a CRC error. I apologize
for any inconvenience. In the meantime there's a corrected archive available.

music files much less than any other sound card connected
through Zorro II or the clock port. This feature, combined
with high playback quality and flexibility of configuration
resulting from the number of mixed inputs/outputs makes
Sound Blaster PCI128 the best sound card offered at any
time for Amiga computers.

DeepSilence-SOMS is back
Sylvio K. writes:
The game developer team DeepSilence is back with their game
´The Secret of my Soul´.
For a long time, the developer team DeepSilence did their name great credit.
Due to the lack of personnel we had to put our activities for some time on ice.
Now we have found a new programmer as well as a new storywriter for our game.
Also, our page is back online with a new exclusive demo of SOMS. The demo comes
with PPC and graphics card support, as well as new effects and brand new graphics.
You can reach our page at http://soms.fanhp.de (no
advertising) or at http://soms.debox.de.
Sadly we have to say that our newsletter does not exist anymore. We thus ask
the subscribers for some patience. There'll soon be a new newsletter.
Also the IRC channel #Amigafun at ie.altnet.org is now the official SOMS chat
channel. Here you can chat with some of us (Sylvio K. = MangaClub and Markus B. = Trojan)
and ask questions.
Details are at http://amigafun.stefan1200.de.

Instant Messenger: CIM improved to current version 1.03_10
Cyborg's Instant Messenger in version 1.03_10 now supports PGP encryption so
that a communication cannot be read by others without huge efforts. A recognition
of the transmission by the system administrator is still ensured. No hidden
message is sent, it thus can hardly be considered a hacker method. The preferences
window can now be enlarged and the problems with some installations are fixed.
The next improvement should be the file transfer, but due to my job I won't have
the time to work on it in the next weeks except for some bugfixes.

Clock as Amiga ball for Windows
This tool is basically a "desktop improvement" - an analog clock which is shown without
window and frame. The background can be chosen from a list of provided graphics. Of
course there is a possibility to create own graphics for the background.
An individual color can be set for hour, minute and second clock-hands to achieve
an optimal user-defined design.

SCSI card reader for Amiga, too (update)
Carsten Siegner wrote:
Two days ago I recieved hardware from Michrotech, which is able to read and write
SmartMedia 8-128MByt, Flashpath cards 8-256MByte, and PCMCIA type I-III cards.
By now I've done tests with SmartMedia and Flashpath cards, which worked terrific
with the Amiga. On Friday I will test Sony memory sticks, too.
As far as I can see now also Amiga users can use mobile MP3 players with the Amiga
(the Amiga can write to the cards!). This magic device is called "ICS-47-BH" and
is to be a CFA, SM, PC card reader with a SCSI-II interface.
The cards are accessed using a mountlist, as like with harddisks, at the speed of
4MByt/sec (read and write). I will create a website with more detailed information
including pictures.

CCC argues against attacks against communication systems
Chaos Computer Club, 13.09.2001
CCC argues against attacks against communication systems
- International understanding more important than ever before
As a reaction on the unbelievable murder attacks in the USA there is an appeal
circulating in the hacker scene to destroy websites and other communication systems
in Islamic countries or organisations available in the Internet.
The Chaos Computer Club arguments against this appeal and asks to ignore this or similar
appeals. As a galactic association it is unimaginable for us to split the world in
good and bad now and to take religion as the measure of all measures for such separation.
These incidences are hard to operate in the global village for every human on this planet.
But as hackers we should try the world processing at issue now to handle in the sense of
human race. "We helplessly face the power of destruction. But we believe in the power
of communication, which eventually always turned out to be positive and more powerful than
hate", said Jens Ohlig, speaker of the CCC.
"Electronic communication structures like the Internet right now can make an important
contribution to international communication. In this understandingly tense situation
it may not happen that communication lines get broken giving more foundation for the lack
of understanding.", summarized Any Müller-Maguhn, speaker of the CCC.
The Chaos Computer Club, this time celebrating it's 20th anniversary, according to it's
statue pleads for freedom of information and a human right of at least world wide untrammelled
communication.
Already in 1999 the CCC together with a coalition of popular hacker groups
(Cult of the Dead Cow, 2600, L0pht, Phrack, Pulhas, Toxyn,
!Hispahack, and members of the Dutch hacker community) argued against the utilization
of networks as an electronic battlefield:
"Don't participate in warlike action in the so called 'cyber war'. Keep the networks alive, which are
for communication. These are the nervous system of human progress."
The original Infopeace statement can be read under
http://www.ccc.de/CRD/CRD19990107.html.

working for Thendic, via email in which he wrote about the SmartBoy as follows:
- The SmartBoy is indeed in development.
- Pictures of the device can be accessed from the company's website (title link)

- In the B2B version (Business-to-Business) the SmartBoy will be equipped with
Windows CE 3.0.
- In the B2C version (Business-to-Consumer) the SmartBoy may be equipped with
the AmigaDE, at the moment we are testing the available software, at the end
of the year a decision will be made.

e.p.i.c. interactive: Status Update
Empire builder Knights and Merchants is in dublication and will be shipping
on september 19th. You can find more information on this real time strategy
game in the projects section.
RPG/strategy mix GORKY 17 is finally coming along nicely. Here is a longer
report on what is done and what still needs to be finished:
Conversion of the game data was among the toughest things with this project.
One reason for this was that a Little Endian engine was required; the other
was that the engine requires filemapping which is not available in Mac OS.
These problems are now fixed (only some minor endian problems in the Load
function need attention).
Gorkys 3D engine is running fine except for some colour problems as you can
see from the screenshots below. The Zoom function also has a couple of minor
problems. Porting of the engine was extremely difficult, because the
original developers used a lot of Intel ASM routines. The remaining problems
with the 3D engine are currently worked on and should be fixed within the
next couple of days. The speed of the game is great even at this stage. On a
350 Mhz G3 it ran at the same speed as the PC version on a 700 Mhz machine.
The game logic seems to be working fine, but intense beta testing on this
part is set to start this week. Sound and video playback is not yet
implemented. The other remaining problem is memory usuage. The game
currently requires a lot of memory, especially under MacOS 9 where you will
need about 200 MB to start the game . These problems do not exist with the
MacOS X version.
Below you will find the first public screenshots from the Macversion. Note
that they have been taken from the german version of the game. The first
public presentation of GORKY 17 will be at the Paris show later this month.
Another project that is in the final stages of development is an arcade fun
shooter. This is our first original release and it will come as a budget
title to MacOS, Windows and MorphOS. Expect more information on this title
in our projects section soon.

Event: Saku 2001 Displayed New Amiga Products
Saku 2001, the biggest Amiga event in Finland and organized by the Finnish Amiga Users Group, gathered about 300 visitors around Finland on September 1st. The venue was organized completely by volunteers and it proved that there is still a dedicated following of the Amiga in Finland.
Y
One of the highlights of Saku 2001 was the demonstration by Cloanto's Michael C. Battilana. He showed the latest JIT compiler version of Amiga Forever emulation software, which will be available as a free upgrade to all Amiga Forever users. Michael also hinted that Cloanto will soon release a completely new software to the Amiga emulation community.
AmigaDE Party Pack was demonstrated with three computers, two if which also ran the AmigaDE Player demo version, which was supplied for Saku 2001 by Amiga Inc. Other programme included an Amiga demo marathon in the auditorium, a Payback game competition, Mediator PCI demonstration and a popular Vaporware registration service. ImageFX, Aladdin 4D, Shogo and AmigaOS 3.9 were also available for testing. The event also generated interest among the media.
Finnish Amiga Users Group wishes to thank all the event contributors and visitors for joining Saku 2001 and making it a memorable event. A photo report and an IRC log will be published later this week. A webcam picture
collection will also be available soon.

New design and status update "Amiga FFE - Project"
At last a reworked version of the homepage is online, from today.
This now (hopefully ,-) ) is more clear and more tidy than the last version.
Moreover the soundtrack can be downloaded in midi format (to have a try with Amidi) and
all of the sound effects in wave and 8SVX format.
A little late, but nevertheless the project definition now was determined, so the basic frame
of the project was set up.
As a next step now the IS analysis will come. For this anybody can send information about
FFE to me. To prevent a "Yes, but what information shall I send?", just have a look at
the (finally added) job list.
But many sections still are "under construction". Should there be any mistakes already now
(dead links, typing errors, etc.), just send an e-mail.
Short summary: The AmigaFFE-Project is an "everyone's invited" project which shall lead to
an Amiga port of the game Frontier First Encounters.

Event: Pictures of the Sharp exhibiton at the IFA-Berlin
Ralf Himmel visited the IFA and made a small movie. Due to the fact that this movie has a size of 15mb he extracted some pictures and wrote some lines about what is depicted.
The special thing about the AmigaDE seems to be that the whole control panel fly into the visible screen area from the left
picture 1 (48 KB).
The controls of a game are looking realy cool. Picture 2 (64 KB) shows a megaball version. The blue background and the board came from the left side of the screen.
A program can be started by touching on a graphic of the controlpanel. Picture 3 (73 KB) shows a tetris clone. Apart from the costs it could become one of the most beautiful gameboys ever.
Picture 4 (82 KB) depicts the device running a 'normal' application that needs more power of the cpu then the AmigaDE (at least in my oppinion). This picture also shows that the display is still readable even if your point of view is not vertical above the device. (ps) (Translation: sk)

AmigaDE: memory_profiler_0colon2
On 5. September 2001 Fleecy Moss released an update for the memory profiler
for the AmigaDE SDK.
In this version the macros were moved to '/ami/sys/inc/', since the '/ami' directory
was supposed to contain anything regarding Amiga, including programs and files coming
from Amiga, third-party developers, and users. '/ami/sys/' will be the basic directory
for any Amiga in-house development.
Tao extended the ami_get_tmem macro with the possibility to determine the array.

Tales of Tamar: LARP meeting, Amiga and Atari update
From 21. to 23. September 2001 the first medieval 'Tales of Tamar' meeting
will take place near Kassel,
Germany.
On that weekend a LARP-Con (a mixture of adventure, entertainment, fun, and suspense)
will take place in a comfortable and romantic ambient. LARP means LiveAdventureRolePlaying
and gives the Tales of Tamar players the chance to put their game character from the game
into reality. Everything will be of medieval style. The players will have to wear proper clothing,
they will talk medieval, there will be fights between the Draks and some players and in the
evening they will discuss the current political situation on Tamar and drink Met
(medieval honey wine).
Among others a medieval band will be there and even the radio station EinsLive ! This radio
station has several millions listeners each day and they want to do an one-hour broadcast about
the Con and Tales of Tamar.
Since the Amiga show planned for that date was canceled especially Amiga users are
heartily invited to attend that meeting. Detailed information about the LARP-Con are to
find here.
A new race was put to the world of Tamar in the AMIGA version V0.37 - the Orks.
So the ancient war between Orks and humans is blazing again. The Orks are a non-human race
and controlled by the ToT-server, only. Usually they come from the mountains and try to
create their own realms. They strictly start to fight against human players and will leave
nothing undone to displace the humans from Tamar, again.
Now it's the players' turn. They might have to put aside their quarrels in order to be able
to have the armies available required to fight the Orks.
Time will show if they will succeed.
The following was entirely ported from the Amiga version to the ATARI version V0.24:
the town, the tavern, the online chat, the mail editor, rune stone, the rain, the green triangles (vacation mode).
This makes the Atari version becoming more and more interesting. Also for that section still testers are wanted.
The Tales of Tamar team welcomes Atari users.

Amiga Arena news
Amiga Arena - special price offer
In cooperation with Ronny Schütz the Amiga Arena makes a special price for XTrace
possible. XTrace is an image processing program which allows to trace pictures in
bitmap format and save them in a vector format.
This is very useful for the use of pictures in DTP programs. Some basic knowledge
on desktop publishing, especially technical terms, are required to make full use of
the possibilities of XTrace.
The pictures can be processed before and after tracing in a variety of ways to achieve
as good results as possible. Some features of XTrace:
- change of color
- digital filter sequences
- support of color curves
- internal list of about 400 colors with own names
- histogram view, stretching and equalization
- conversion between different color types
- powerful palette editor
- aspect / DPI change
- rotation (three-dimensional)
- full transparency support
- full clipboard and XPK support
- CyberGraphX/Picasso96 support
- fullscreen and font sensitive user interface
You'll find more information at the
XTrace-Website.
With this special price offer you have the chance to show the developer
Ronny Schütz that there's
still interest in XTrace. He'd be happy about feedback and suggestions. (ps) (Translation: rh)

PlayMOD was just released on the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
PlayMOD plays, as the name says, Protracker and Noisetracker
modules however with a slight difference from all the other
players: PlayMOD is primarily meant for playing MODs by double-clicking
the icon of the file. So it's useful for CD-ROMs
with a lot of MODs with icons which have PlayMOD as the default
tool. PlayMOD was also used on the "The Best Of Airsoft Softwair

Additionally it plays IFF-8SVX files of any size. PlayMOD is
a small, system-friendly program and runs either with or without
a GUI (user-configurable!). PlayMOD is Freeware and can be

AROS news
AROS is an open source project to implement a portable version of
AmigaOS V3.1. Read here how the project advances:
Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla has updated the
credits.
Still not everyone is mentioned but it's better than before :-)
He also fixed the URLs which were broken by the new web site
scripts.
Georg Steger fixed the strange keyboard problems (holding the right
Win key down for a while would suddenly print /'s on the screen).
He also added some printer- and datatype-specific header files.
They are needed
in the DataTypes.class. And he fixed a bug in the EOF handling of
the console.handler.
Fabio Alemagna improved flushing of Output() and
Error(). The shell will now print the boot and other
messages only when needed. PIPEFS: supports AbortIO()
now. He also added <Ctrl-C>-Handling to a lot of DOS functions
so that they will abort a pending IO if the task receives a signal
while waiting for the IO to complete.
Stefan Berger fixed two bugs in layers and intuition. Child windows
can now be moved with opaque running. He also implemented a helper
function which checks if a layer is the frontmost among the
layers that have the same relationship to the root layer and another
one which checks if a layer is hidden by any other visible (or invisible)
sibling with the same priority. And he fixed typos in rand48-functions
in c.lib. (ps) (Translation: rh)

There are new plugins for ProstationAudio. Read the original message:
Apparently some graphic board models don't handle masked images correctly.
A update pack for ALPS plugins is now available to fix display problems

simple as decompressing the archive to the plugins drawer and rebooting.

Virus Help Denmark: xvs.library v33.34 and VirusExecutor v22.21
A new update of the "xvs.library" has been released today. The code for removal of the
virus "Hitch-Hiker 5.00" should be there now. We got a helping hand from a former
antivirus programmer (Georg Hoermann, known from VirusZ & xvs.library).
We know that there have been a lot of updates of the xvs.library in the last 14 days, but
the Hitch-Hiker 5.00 virus was very tricky, and Georg Hoermann wrote this to me:
> - Quote start
It's never nice to see such ugly viruses, and the polymorphic code was
definitely the "finest" I have seen so far. With the knowledge of several
years, you can handle such a beast much easier, but Jan Erik will certainly
learn a lot about those things when he continues with xvs.library.

And I was the one that 'draged' the programming of the xvs.library over Jan Erik's
head, when Alex van Niel did not have the time to update anymore. VHT-DK
needed a programmer they could trust 100% with viruses, and there was only one,
so I used all my 'charm' to talk Jan Erik into it. And I'm happy that we have Jan Erik
to update the xvs.library....
Info about the new update of xvs.library:
Name: xvs.library v33.34
chive name: xvslibrary.lha
Archive size: 58.341 byteses
Release date: 6 September 2001
Programmer: Jan Erik Olausen
News for v33.33:
- Replaced the Hitch-Hiker 5.00 detection/removal code.
Thanks to Georg Hörmann for writing a better code ;)
- Cleaned up some code. Got some tips from Georg.
So the library is a bit smaller now...
- For developers: Added XVSLIST_DATAVIRUSES to xvsCreateVirusList()
so that you can view data viruses as well.
Download shortcut: http://home4.inet.tele.dk/vht-dk/amiga/xvs/xvs.htm
Remember if you use VirusZ, VirusChecker, Safe and VirusExecutor you
must update the xvs.library to have recog for the latest viruses.....
Also a new update of VirusExecutor, here is the news:
Name : VirusExecutor v22.21
Archive name: VirusExecutor.lha
Archive size : 285.082 bytes
Date: 6 September 2001
Programmer: Jan Erik Olausen
News in v2.21:
- Fixed font problem in the memory monitor.
- Fixed some gfx out of range when using VE on a Workbench screen
with a display width < 645.
- Starting to write a disassemble function in the memory monitor.
It don't know all the commands yet, but it will ;)
- You can now use the arrow keys or the numeric key pad to scroll
in the monitor window.
- Added 'Show data virus' to the menu. Requires xvs.library v33.34+
Download shortcut: http://home4.inet.tele.dk/vht-dk/amiga/ve/ve.htm

New Linux_m68k kernel and programs for Linux APUS
Michael Heider wrote:
Under the title link a new kernel for Linux_m68k as well as a new kernel and
programs for Linux APUS are available for download. The programs are about a script
to configure sound under Linux APUS in case of sound drivers generated as kernel modules.
Most kernels downloaded from the developers page have such.
On my homepage you can download kernels up to version 2.4.8 each as both IDE and SCSI versions.
On this occasion I would like to thank Mario Frenzel for his effort.
One short note:
I ask the users to access the homepage using my old URL
http://home.germany.net/101-109037/index.html,
since there are some problems with the domain offeror at this time.

AmiBench will be four years old soon
Press release:
Did you know that AmiBench will be 4 soon?
Alot's happened over the last 4 years.....
I still remember the day that AmiBench went live, September the 26'th 1997. I remember very vividly on christmas day of the same year, clicking on the refresh button in Ibrowse and seeing new adverts everytime I hit it.
I couldnt even begin to re-count how many emails I've had from well wisher's over the year's and how many friends I've made for life through AmiBench being what it is.
I guess there's alot to be said for the Amiga Community. I am sure that some of you know that I've not used a real Amiga in about a year (I just kept blowing them up..), Even through I dont have an Amiga, I'm still here... AmiBench still goes on, and I live in somekind of vain hope that maybe this year We'll be able to release version 2 of AmiBench...
I've long since given up guessing on when (if?) AmiBench 2 will go live, I don't know. All I do know is that We try our best, but not having the resources that we need to dedicate ourselves to making it happen in 3 weeks means it takes ages to finish. All I can say is sorry guys!, it'll happen one day...
Ugh, this little post sounds really depressing... Sorry :(
Anyway, We usually celebrate AmiBench's birthday by holding somekind of Quiz. This year I've sadly not had time to approach anyone and arrange anything. Is anyone interested in giving away some gifts for us to use as birthday prizes?
If so please do drop me a mail as soon as possible!

On the homepage of Airsoft Softwair Search v1.2 has been just published. This program enables you to search through text files but especially CD-catalogs with a small GUI. You can configure the program in the way that you can e.g. use it as a search program for whole CDs.
So it was used e.g. on the "The Best Of Airsoft Softwair Gold Edition" CD-ROM. Besides this the program supports several languages and presents the results in practically formated AmigaGuide-file. Search is Freeware and is downloadable from the homepage of Airsoft (title link) from now on.

Repulse Soundcard does not support Movieshop so far (update)
Carsten Siegner writes:
As you can read in the amiga-news.de news from 30.08.01 a new Toccata-emulation was
announced as the only emulation to work together with Movieshop of the VLab-Motion.
Unfortunately I have heard from Alien Design today that the 'Repulse' does not work
with the program Movieshop. Because the developers do not have a VLabMotion you need
to test the functionality.
I have offered help to test the software so it could be done in some time.
Update 06. September 2001:
Stefan Sommerfeld,
programmer of the Repulse Toccata emulation, posted in a comment to this message:
This message is wrong in some sense. The MovieShop support was almost finished and
will be available on our homepage
this very day. Since a couple of weeks tests with MovieShop have been done and
except for some little features every thing works quite good, already.
Anybody wanting to test the new Toccata emulation now, should download the new
drivers. Of course bugreports are very much welcome.

Warp Emulation Suite: WES Version 1.0
Hitman/Code HQ is pleased to announce the release of
WES v1.0.
WES (Warp Emulation Suite) consists of a master controlling program,
WarpKickstart, and a suite of emulation engines, which allow you to
emulate a large number of machines. As time goes by, more and more
engines will be added to the suite. It currently supports six, most of
which are currently related to MAME, as follows:
WarpMAME - Based on v0.37 Beta 16 of the PC sources
WarpMAME Classic - Based on v0.37 Beta 5 of the PC sources
WarpNeoMAME - Based on v0.37 Beta 16 of the PC sources
WarpNeoMAMEClassic - Based on v0.37 Beta 5 of the PC sources
WarpMESS
WarpNeoPocott
The reason for there being two versions of MAME in the Suite (WarpMAME
and WarpMAME Classic) is that MAME is getting bigger and slower all the
time, and is moving to a 16 bit only screen mode system. This will make
it too slow for our old Amigas. So WarpMAME Classic was born. Play your
old favourite games using WarpMAME classic and the latest MAME games
using WarpMAME - probably quite slowly until the AmigaOne comes along! :-)
WarpNeoPocott is an early and quick port of a Neo Geo Pocket emulator.

Article: CNN ... Amiga isn't dead
CNN: "Surprise: The Amiga isn't dead... technically. Although Commodore
is defunct, an Australian company called Amiga Inc. is still updating the
Amiga operating system and has created specs in hopes of finding friendly
manufacturers to release the first new Amiga hardware in six years. A
small but loyal fan base of Amiga nuts is holding its breath."

MPEG: Frogger V1.66
Frogger can be downloaded from http://frogger.rules.pl or http://highantdev.de/frogger/.
Please note, that audio is disabled in 68k version, due
to bug I could not find. As soon as I've fixed it, version
with audio enabled will be released. MorphOS
version is also almost finished.
- Video layer 1/2 decoding.
- Audio layer I, II and III decoding. Now also with very fast decoder in 68k version (through mpega.library)
- AC3 Audio decoder.
- Fast video & audio playback.
- Intelligent frame skipping.
- Overlay support.
- Fast C2P for AGA.
- Direct CGFX video memory access routines.
- Asynchronous disk reading.
- Video scaling on both CGFX and AGA.
- Support for reading VideoCD disks.
- Support for PSX movies and audio.
Look here for all current known bugs and on the future-page for features to come up.
1.66 pre 1
- fixed deadlocks after seeking. (damn, seems like this bug is still there)
- optimized video decoder (up to 10%). on the other hand, there was some changes in demuxer,
which causes slowdown. overall result: 0%.
- added TRACKSELECTION option (shows gui to vcd track selection, default no gui - start
playing first track immediately).
- changed minimal window size. it is now calculated based on system gadget size.
- fixed bug in vcd code, which caused crash if specified device could not be opened.
- fixed problems with slider (small know size at beginning, and slider movement).
- changed mpeg-audio decoder. completly new routines, layerII is as fast as before, layerIII is 2x
faster. there is no FREQDIV 4 (if specified, 1:2 division is used, ie. FREQDIV=2).
- AUDIOQUALITY works with this decoder (previous versions supported AQ only in 68k
version). default is HIGH. LOW and MIDDLE are the same. This decoder fixes also some
problems with LayerIII decoding.
- new ac3 decoder. faster, more reliable.
- fixed problems with multiple tracks vcds (lost of synch when starting new track). the same bug
appears on movies joined with join or mpegjoin, seems to be cured also).
- If user tried to play finished movie from beginning (SPACE key) deadlock occured if audio was
enabled). fixed. Hoppefully this also fixed deadlock with LOOP when audio is enabled.
- Slider size/position was wrong, when movie was on VCD/CDI media. fixed.

PCI: Grzegorz Kraszewski about the Prometheus bus
Grzegorz Kraszewski, Matay, talked about the status of the Prometheus bus on
the Prometheus mailing list. The current firmware is unidirectional, meaning
that the Prometheus can act as PCI master and Zorro-III slave, only.
After a firmware update the bus can be bidirectional. Then the master PCI board
can access the Amiga hardware. That means that the Amiga hardware acts like
a PCI board for a G4 PPC card.
Follow the title link for the original text.

Printer-Spooler: PrintManager V39.32
PrintManager v39 is a so called printer-spooler, it intercepts all printer. device calls to the
parallel-/serial.device and saves the printer specific raw data to a file. This way, programs sending data to the printer
don't have to wait for the slow printer to continue. PrintManager also gives you some control over the data sent to the
printer. You can even print files directly from inside PrintManager using the datatypes-system.
'PrintManager' also can be configured to make the spooler catch printing commands
directly sent to the parallel or serial device.
Changes:
when changing the screenmode or screenfont of the workbench screen, PrtMan closes and
reopens its window, now. This feature requires OS3.9.
Features:
- caches only printer.device calls
- can cache all calls to parallel-/serial.devices
- allows to exclude certain tasks from spooling
- nice gui which works with proportional fonts
- files can be printed from inside Printmanager (uses datatypes.lib)
- works with datatypes.library v45 (v45 recommend, not required!)
- own FAST parallel.device (registered version only)
- localized
- after reset/crash unfinished printings are recovered
- delayed printing
- print count function
- allows to redirect printing to another device
- upto 10 devices can be spooled

AmigaDE: Tool - memprof V1.0
On 01. September 2001 Fleecy Moss released version 1.0 of the memory profiler

This tool does some crude but useful memory profiling. It works only for VP

developer asks for and frees). It does not cover system memory such as

Swiss local store AMIGALAND closing down
Marianne E. Vokinger wrote:
For health reasons I, Marianne E. Vokinger, holder of AMIGALAND in Switzerland,
unfortunately have to finally close down the local store AMIGALAND after 9½ years
of business.
I will appeal to keep existing contacts and to go on working for the dispatch. But until
the entire liquidation was done and I'm of somehow stable health again it quite sure will
be October 2001 for me to able to be active again. I'm very sorry to not having another
option and I'm often remembering the 'GOOD OLD TIMES', these days.
I would like to thank all of my customers both at home and abroad for they have been faithful

already let me off the hook on the Neuss show :))
Who knows, maybe we will meet again on some show :-)

The Register: Amiga flogs Win, Linux Amiga DE player for $20
Tony Smith has written a critial, partly unobjective, article for ´The Register´

Here an excerpt:
»If Sun couldn't make it happen with Java on the basis of allowing
anyone to write JVMs and give them away for free, we can't help but think
Amiga's plan to make people pay for this stuff has even less chance of
success.
Doubly so when this allegedly advanced technology can only be used to
knock up half a dozen puzzle games of the kind we haven't seen since we
won an Atari Lynx in 1989.«

Virus Help Denmark: Safe Version 16.5
A new update of "Safe" has been released today. Also the programmer
of Safe has very big problem with the new 'Hitch-Hiker 5.00' virus. But
we are working to make recog. for the virus in xvs.library. I have included
the test of 'Hitch-Hiker 5.00' at the button.
Info about the new update of Safe:
Name: Safe v16.5
Archive name: Safe.lha
Archive size: 35.456 bytes
Release date: 30 August 2001
Programmer: Zbigniew Trzcionkowski
News is v16.5:
- added possibility to change name of safe on installation.
It was necessary - new viruses like HH50 and SMEG2b
refuse to infect Safe file. This trend will surely remain,
so now Safe gives the user the easy way avoid that.
Big thanks for Antonio Noguera, who did this improvement!
This is piece of good work - even better I expected!
- removed some outdated info from html documentation
Note that the most useful information is here and in NewShit.guide.
Thanks to Michael Hendren for paying attention.
- removed SMEG2/PENETRATOR removals as xvs.library recognizes them now
- added analyze of HitchHiker5.00 the most advanced polymorphic bastard
in the Amiga universe
Download shortcut: http://home4.inet.tele.dk/vht-dk/amiga/safe/safe.htm
=== Start of HitchHiker 5.00 Virus ===
Entry: HitchHiker 5.00
Alias(es): -
Virus Strain: Smeg2
Virus detected when: August 2001
where: Aminet
Classification: Linkvirus,memory-resident, not reset-resident
Length of Virus: 1. Length on storage medium: c.a. 3720 Bytes
Has most advanced metamorphic decoders seen
for Amiga and uses slow polymorphism!
2. Length in RAM: 8588 Bytes
--- Preconditions ---
Operating System(s): AMIGA-DOS Version/Release.....: 2.04+
Computer model(s): all models/processors (MC68000-MC68060)
--- Attributes ---
Easy Identification: -
Type of infection:
- Self-identification method in files:
- via unused bits visible in dos flags
- Self-identification method in memory:
- checks for 'HH5' process
- System infection:
- A new process entitled 'HH5' will be created
and this is the only visible change in the system.
That process infects files using the known
Smeg code, but the way of getting targets is new.
- The virus patches return address from Wait()
call of device's tasks. This is very clever idea which lets
the virus patch devices which's code is placed even in ROM.
The LOCATE_OBJECT and EXAMINE_NEXT packets will be stolen.
- Infection preconditions:
- HUNK_CODE is found
- device is validated
- at least 6 free blocks
- filename does not start with "vir" and "saf"
(case independant check)
- file is bigger than 4190 bytes
- file is smaller than 100377 bytes
Infection Trigger:
- The infection is based on the packet handling
of AMIGA OS. Every started or listed file can be
infected.
Storage media affected:
Interrupts hooked:
Damage:
- Permanent damage: - none
- Transient damage: - none
Damage Trigger:
- Permanent damage: - none
- Transient damage:
- none
Particularities:
- Uses slow polymorphism! Only this little fact
mislooked by Jan Erik Olausen (and Jan Andersen)
made filedetection in xvs.library the biggest AV
joke seen for Amiga computers ever!
At the moment xvs.library detects 3 variants
of virus from several millions possible!
- The stack patches are done very clever and the
code is flexible enough to handle differences
between OS versions (including newer than 3.1).
Most of code is equal to first SMEG virus.
If the accessed file starts with the string "VIR"
or "SAF" (case independant), the file will
be not infected.
Similarities:
- It could be seen as third kind of SMEG2, but the
polyengine made it one of the most advanced viruses
for Amiga.
Stealth:
- None. The virus does not put infected file
length like BOBEK viruses to ExNext's FIB,
so it is likely that under controll of virus
user will cut files. Salvage will be never
possible as it was for HH4.11 which's files
several times appeared in truncated form
due to it's stealth... :-)
Armouring:
- Uses so called HAVOC polyengine. This is the
best such engine in Amiga virus at the moment.
The decoders are placed after the decoder block,
and the loop could contain very much logical stuff.
The decoders are made metamorphically and are built
of various jumps backward and forward.
Such decoders can be detected only in alghorythmic
way. Detection of this virus is impossible with
technics like breaking the cryptings (lot of stuff)
and tracing (entry point!).
The decoder is generated on virus startup,
so after reboot files are infected always
with new decoders.
Comments:
- The virus contains text: HAVOC
I have been working with one copy of HH5.0.
Even there really exist clones of HH5.0 I think that if the polyengine
detection will be working for one, will be good for others.

Tool: ScreamerII Version 0.84 for Amiga-Lightwave
Alexander Fritsch wrote:
Ray Darrah III released a new version of his ScreamerNet controller
"ScreamerII". ScreamerII allows shared computing of Lightwave scenes
on several machines.
ScreamerII but is essentially more flexible than the built-in ScreamerNet controller
of Lightwave. For example one computer can render a picture while simultaneously another project
gets edited in layout .
Furthermore other computers dynamic can be added to or removed from ScreamerNet.
All machines can be reseted, computing will then be continued from the proper point ( no
new starting picture must be defined in the project).
Additionally the single RenderNodes can have their own names, instead of CPU1, CPU2 like
usual. The new version 0.84 fixes a small bug with the computer names display. A. Fritsch:
"I've tested the program for several days and I'm excited!"

Richard Kapp wrote:
Again there are a lot of innovations to our online magazine GFX-Base:
A new section 'Customize' was created where you can find patches, hacks,
and tools to make your WB look better. We also enhanced our search engine to
make it even more easy to find e.g. all PPC scene demos or games supporting
graphics boards. Now our news archive can be searched in a comfortable way, too.
Furthermore we have started a new survey to learn which GFX-BASE area is most
important to you. As usual there are new entries with graphics board supporting
games and scene demos.

amiga-news.de: Torsten Dudai stops drawing caricatures
Since July of 1999 Torsten Dudai has supported amiga-news.de by drawing of outstanding caricatures. But some time ago Torsten made him self-employed in the section of webdesign. As anyone knows at the beginning of a self-employment you have to bale all your power to lead the firm to a succesful way.
On the one hand this change but on the other hand also the fact that in the Amiga sector the amount of news reduces of which you could create a caricature were the reasons why Torsten decided to stop drawing caricatures.
We are very sad about this decision but we can understand it, too. We really enjoyed the caricatures many times. The caricatures reflected very precisly the respective situation.
Torsten, we know that you will become a very great webdesigner and wish you all the best for your future!

amiga-news.de celebrates third anniversary :-)
For three years our team delivers messages
of the Amiga-sector and topics which are generally important for computer
and Internet to you. The last year was espacially exciting for us because
the new scripts and with it the possibilities to post comments have been
a freshening aspect. Although sometimes the ´freshening aspect´
was rather a ´ half-hearted breath of air´. Nevertheless the
comments have become an important part of amiga-news.de. Since the
introduction in January of 2001 over 16,000 comments have been given
to our messages.
Interesting because it is still always exciting to see how the market
develops - or how it does not. In the present time it is quite difficult
to understand what will happen - or what will not. Sometimes it is really
hard to find the truth between promises, announcements, exaggerations,
rumors and disputes. But just this is the attraction - to see how
comparatively small groups of enthusiasts can finally start great
projects. This is a goad for us make us hopeful.
In our history read how amiga-news.de has
developed in the past three years, who collaborates and spends his free
time for our team gratuitously.
I personally want to thank all the helpful hands because without
work of each single one amiga-news.de would not be that what it is today.
I want to thank all the readers, authors, developers and programmers which
deliver all the messages. I espacially want to thank our advertising
partners which help us to finance our website with its banner
advertisement. (ps) (Translation: dr)

Max Payne developer are (active!) Amiga-freaks
Silvio Senger writes:
Maybe the following message does not really fit to the news but I think
that it is interesting for most of the Amiga-fans:
For some weeks there is a new action hero in the PC-world called MAX
PAYNE. It lasts nearly five years to develop the game and it certainly
is one of the hits of this year, at least in the PC-fan-community. It is
known that some Amiga-Fans developed this game.
On the this year's ASSEMBLY in Finland (with nearly 5000 visitors one of
the biggest demo/LAN-parties;
www.assembly.org) where the best
freaks also compete in a "demo-competition" PC- and Amiga-demos have been
shown together in one competition. It was amazing to see that a team which
made its demo on a Amiga was the winner.
(as amiga-news.de reported).
And that is remarkable: The members of the group ´MatureFurk´
behind this demo all work at Mad Onion (known by its benchmark program
3DMark2001). The graphic artist mainly participates on Max Payne.
And there is another curious thing: Exactly the same group won on the last ASSEMBLY the PC-demo competition. The demo has the same name as the AMIGA winner demo on the ASSEMBLY 2001.
The following links are interesting:
Detailed interview with the graphic artist of the DEMO, which participates on Max Payne
Download of AMIGA DEMOS (requires 68060 + AGA + 16 MB memory!)

Repulse-driver for NetBSD/Amiga
A driver for the "repulse" board by Aliendesign was added to the
NetBSD-current yesterday.
Repulse is a Zorro II interface to an AC97 compliant Audio CODEC and
additional S/P-DIF circuitry. The NetBSD driver currently only supports
8-48 kHz mono or stereo 8 or 16 bit audio data from/to the analog part.
The missing features will be added later.
The driver was added to NetBSD-current, the development branch of NetBSD.
The NetBSD projects invites volunteers to test this code. Problems should
be reported on the NetBSD port-amiga mailing list or (preferred) through
the NetBSD bug tracking system.
The repulse driver is expected to be available in the NetBSD-1.6 formal
release.

New swiss onlineshop offering Amigaproducts
Gutzwiller+Dozic Systems, a dealer from Switzerland, is proud to announce the opening of their onlineshop.
The shop offers mobile phones, digital cameras, as well as hardware and software for the Playstation2, PC and Amiga.
Later on there will be products for the Macintosh and for Audio and Video available, too.
Marc 'Gutzi' Gutzwiller of Gutzwiller+Dozic Systems: "I would like to mention that the Amiga-area is still beta.
We know that the Amiga market is very small and that it is not possible to earn money in this market. There are only
some but really good Amiga-dealers. Due to this facts we will offer Amiga products as long as we do not loose any money
by doing this. Because I am using Amigas since the good old Amiga 500 I hope that we can support Amiga as long as possible.
Feel free to mail what you think about our shop. We are pleased about any reaction."

Digital Almanac III - Update V4.0 and V4.1 (Update)
As already announced last weekend the update of Digital Almanac III
is available for all registered customers, now.
Unfortunately this update has to be delivered in two parts. The initial
archive (v4.0, 4MB) still contained two bugs, but which have been fixed
in the second part (v4.1, 1,4MB).
The update to v4.1 strongly requires v4.0!
The new and automatic update function of the program works with v4.1 only.
The update archives should appear on Aminet during the following days.
Extra hasty people may download the files from the mailing list.

ACBB live report from the IFA (Update)
A short report from the IFA (with the kind support of ifa-hammer.de) by
the ACBB.
In hall 3.2a you will find the Sharp SL5000 (Zaurus).
After initial problems (nobody knew about Amiga at the PDA booth) A4k,
Trion, and me, Gojira, found Mrs. Boxberg (Product Manager Sharp Germany).
She found very much time to show us a Zaurus with miscellaneous Amiga applications.
Later some guy with an Amiga logo on his shirt appeared. That was Sanjay Menon,
Vice President Engineering Amiga Inc.. He had a prototype with more applications
with him, too.
Mrs. Boxberg mentioned that Sharp is wanting contact with German Amiga developers
and there might be an announcement at amiga-news.de, soon.
This was the report by the ACBB so far. More information and pictures are on our

Met@box: Refloating loan from the shareholder community?
On 22. August 2001 the 'Metabox AG' enquired a short-term refloating loan
in the amount of 1 million Euro from the 'Aktionärsgemeinschaft Metabox'
(shareholder community Metabox). This money is needed to maintain business operations
until the general meeting. Without this money already within the next few days
insolvency proceedings will be opened.
Thereafter the shareholder community formed a delegation, which is inspecting the Metabox AG
to estimate chances for sanitation, since last Friday.
From the inspections was derived (quotation):
«1) The company should be sustained. A sellout of the values created by the shareholder's
fund should be prevented without fail.
2) We should appeal to make available the required short-term sum of one million Euro.
The securities given let us estimate a low loan contingency risk.»

Amiga Flame
|
Amiga Flame: PDA - Interviews with Moss (Amiga) and Steiding (epic)
At Amiga Flame several texts were released for the subject PDA games and AmigaDE.
Fleecy Moss, Amiga Inc., emphases in the interview,
that the main focus of AmigaDE is to provide an environment in
which content can be used hardware independent. So the agreement with
Sharp allows to use AmigaDE content on Sharp's devices, but Amiga also
works together with other companies. AmigaDE already runs on different
devices in the laboratory in Snoqualmie, including the currently most
popular PDAs as well as those soon to be released, and additional on
Linux and Windows desktops. From AmigaOS v4.2 AmigaDE also will be
available for AmigaOne machines.
To reduce language problems for the Japanese market in particular games
are created to be used via icons only, as much as possible. But in the
future there will be a localizing service offered, too.
Epic Interactive announced early August to develop AmigaDE software.
Amiga Flame asked Thomas Steiding about the reasons behind this PDA engagement.
On reason for Epic Interactive to support the PDA market are the development
times of 2 - 3 month for PDA games, which are definite shorter than for desktop
games (18 - 24 month). That gives clear less risk.
Since the PDAs don't match the currently popular 3D titles, these represent a
completely different market with card games, puzzles, and shoot'em ups which
sale well in the PDA market, but would not be accepted for desktops, these days.
Due to the PDAs low performance compared to desktops Steiding thinks
Amiga developers to well suit PDA games development, since those rather are
used to handle more inefficient machines than e.g. Windows developers are.
Finally he describes the titles Epic Interactive will release, soon. Those
also are listed on Amiga PDA Games
along with other titles.

A500: Viper 530 Relaunch Project
The 'Viper 530 Relaunch Project' is an initiative to re-produce the
'Viper 530' for the Amiga 500, which is about a CPU socket extension
for the A500 with the following features:
CPU 68030 (50MHz), FPU 68882 (50MHz) slot, one SCSI-2 interface,
3 IDE ports (1x2,5", 2x3,5"), up to 128MB RAM (72 Pin SIMM),
and Kickstart 2.04.
This project was started by Pablo Esteban Castineria. He asked DCE
via e-mail if they would re-produce this card and got in reply that
DCE would do so, if enough people are interested in this card. Oliver
Day then created the above website
to inform about this card and the project.
You can register for the list of interested via

At first this is for learning how much people are interested in this card. The price
is up to the number of units produced. The initiators expect 180£.

IFA: Allrounder: Sharp Personal Mobile Tool SL-5000
»The Japanese Sharp company will introduce their new pocket sized Personal Mobile Tool SL-5000
on the IFA 2001. The most important tools of this little allrounder are web-browsers, mobile phone,
e-mail, and a MP3 player. Quick operation of any business task is guaranteed by the 206 MHz Intel
StrongARM processor, 32 MB SDRAM for memory, as well as the operating system Linux OS (kernel 3.4).
The users are forced to access the in many cases unfamiliar display keyboard, since below the operating front,
which can be pulled off, there is a QWERTZ keyboard. Operating time basically is not limited, the different
battery packs can be recharged separately. The SL-5000 can be extended with SD or multimedia cards and
compact flash memory cards. Even a video camera module can be connected to it. But the Personal Mobile Tool
was not made for business purposes only: The cooperation with Amiga Inc. and their wide range of games
make it a small games machine. The device is said to be available at the vendor's from December.« (ps) (Translation: mj)

But it's hardly known that the latest beta version of AMP2 has got
direct DVD support including free choice of the video sequence to be played and

which pop up one by one, but only works if AMP2 was started from CLI.
