AMOS-Reimplementation: jAMOS 0.13
jAMOS is a Java version of AMOS (amiga-news.de reported about it) which offers additional features.
Changes:
- A text output console is now spawned on creation (for HelloWorld.jamos, etc.)
- Default example changed to jAMOSOut (original still available under AMAL examples)
- AMAL examples now default to the first AMAL program in the editor when opened (as with jAMAL)
- More examples were added demonstrating dynamic types, concurrent jAMOS programs and hybrid syntax
- jAMAL's startup sound is playable from the menu alongside jAMOS's
- Some minor bug-fixes

Accelerator board: ACA 1231 with 68030 incl. MMU and RTC
The ACA 1231 developed by Individual Computers is a accelerator board for the Amiga 1200. Compared with the previous model ACA 1230, now a full-value 68030-CPU inclusive MMU was used.
The ACA-1231/42 comes with 64 MB RAM, 1 MB of which are reserved to map the Kickstart into the fast memory. Kickstart 3.0 users must add the memory with the ACATune software.

AmigaOS 4: Firefox-port Timberwolf 4.0.1 (Beta)
Hans-Jörg and Thomas Frieden have published a new beta version of their Firefox-port "Timberwolf". Currently hardware-based rendering is still not implemented. Print routines, sound support, WebGL as well as Drag&Drop are missing, too.
Timberwolf requires AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4. The authors points out that the user is recommended to look at the Readme which is included in the archive before Timberwolf is started. It includes important hints among others to Font-Caches. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Demo scene: Results and releases of Datastorm 2012

MorphOS: Document viewer OpenOfficeViewer 0.0.5
Carsten Siegner's OpenOfficeViewer displays texts and graphics which are available in the OpenDocument-format and among others is used by OpenOffice. Changes in version 0.0.5:
- Pictures within OpenDocumentText now are correctly recognized and displayed
- Horizontal tabulators now are correctly interpreted
- Soft Pagebreaks and Hard Pagebreaks in OpenDocumentText now are interpreted
- Print routine for native filetransfer (Postscript) finished and works
- Tentative routine for Turboprint-support works
- The GUI was slightly changed (and now looks better...)
- A guide was written
- A localization of the GUI is available in four languages (German, English, Turkish and French)
- A bug in the picture routine (OpenDocumentText) was fixed
- A new icon was added

MorphOS: Gribouillis 3.1.500 and PyMUI 0.6.254
Guillaume 'Yomgui' Roguez' graphic programm Gribouillis as well as PyMUI were updated. Most of the notified bugs were fixed and an improved interface for managing layers integrated. Selecting colours were improved as well. Saving in PNG- (and ORA-) format was accelerated by using the png.library.

AmigaOS 4: Audio Evolution 4 becomes Freeware, source code release announced
Davy Wentzler has published a Freeware version of his so far commercially sold harddisk recording and editing software Audio Evolution 4 on OS4depot. In the Readme file the author also has announced the release of the source code. Half a year ago the sources of the older version were published on Aminet.

Sequencer: HD-Rec 0.10 Beta
Thilo "Der_Wanderer" Köhler has published a new version of his MIDI and audio sequencer HD-Rec:
- made AISS images work correctly with HD-Rec
- added some more key-shortcuts to the wave editor (SPACE)
- improved denoiser with graphical feedback
- added "invert" operator to invert phase of wave samples
- mono wave samples are rendered mono now instead of stereo, if the dsp effect allows this
- fixed: sometimes changes in wave samples were not stored
- added new splash screen
- added ulradc and exciter dsp effect
- improved ultracomp dsp effect
- improved range handling in Waveeditor
- bugfixes when cutting/applying FX to wavesamples

NetPrinter 1.15
With Guido Mersmann's NetPrinter you can print with a printer in the network.
The driver supports printing via RAW- (direct) and LPR-protocol.
Additionally a preference-tool is included with which you can easily configure your printer. The MorphOS-version will be automatically added to the system preferences.
The author points out that NetPrinter does not replace the printer driver but only provides a connection to the USB and serial port. If a printer does not print via the USB-, parallel or serial port then the printer will also not print with NetPrinter.
Additional to the direct download under the title link, NetPrinter also is available via Grunch.

Amiga-Emulator: fs-uae
The emulator fs-uae is based on WinUAE and was written for playing disks and CD-ROM based Amiga games on the PC. The user-interface can be completely controled via controlpad (screenshot). Therefore this version of UAE especially is meant for HTPCs.

AMOS emulation package for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS
After the releases for Windows, AROS and Linux, versions for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS of the emulation package have been published which allows you start AMOS via mouse click - with UAE and AROS-Kickstart-ROMs.
The package is completely untested because the author does not use AmigaOS 4 or MorphOS. So any kind of feedback or questions are very welcome.

AmigaOS 4: Composite3DDemo incl. source code
As test programm for his AmigaOS-4-drivers for graphic baords Radeon X1300, RadeonHD 4890 and others, Hans de Ruiter has written Composite3DDemo (screenshot, video) which is inspired by the original Boingball demo.
His interactive 3D-programm which already is included in AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 in the media drawer renders graphics with hardware-accelerated 2D-graphic without using 3D-drivers.
The source code of Version 0.32 is also available under the title link.
Version 0.32 mainly includes big fixes as well as the support of the homogeneous form of texture coordinates.

AmigaOS 4: AmiTV-Testversion 20120207
After a longer break Ian Gledhill has published an update of his Tv-software AmiTV. The chipsets Brooktree Bt848/Bt878 and Conexant Cx23881/Cx23882/Cx23883 are supported. Using overlay can crash the system occasionally when compositing is turned on.
The author recommends to save your work first before you use this program.

ACube Systems: Sam440ep_setup 1.3
With version 1.3 of ACube System's Sam440ep_setup the performance of Sam440ep-boards (Mini-ITX and Flex) can be increased by using more "aggressive" preferences of the instruction cache speculative prefetching.
This allows a faster execution for some software, for example Blender with an increased performance by 10%-20%. You can find an example command line under the title link.
Please note that some values returned by Ragemem are incorrect (MIPS) or lower (L2 cache read64/write64) when this setting is enabled.
To disable this setting, add NOCCR argument to the command line. AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 is required.

Emulator: FPSE 0.10.3
Version 0.10.3 of the "Free Play Station Emulator" (FPSE) was published for AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS/x86.
The update fixes some problems with the link-mode-emulation on 68k and x86 systems. Additionally a new plugin for the lowlevel.library was added which makes it now possible using controlpads on all systems.

Point and Click Adventure: Goldmedaillon
The point and click adventure "Goldmedaillon" ("Zloty Medaillon", Youtube video of the demo version) was originally published as Shareware and is now available as free version in German, English and Polish.
The game can be played only from harddrive. Before you start the game you have to edit the text file ZM.pref and to enter the path of the directory where the game is. Besides, the game cannot deal with FastRAM, so you have to swich it off or use the system tool "NoFastMem".

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: AmiDARK-Engine 0.5
Frédéric Cordier describes the AmiDARK-Engine as "Game Development Kit" inspired by DarkGDK. It is a collection of macros and functions for C-programmers which is supposed to make it easier developing games.
Version 0.5 also is available for MorphOS. Before the author won an Efika inclusive MorphOS licence.

Benchmarks: AmigaOne X1000 compared with other PPC-hardware (Update)
The first benchmarks of the AmigaOne X1000 have been posted on various forums (sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The following graphics were created by MorphOS developer Harry 'Piru' Sintonen, used here with kind permission from Mr. Sintonen.
LAME
With the MP3 encoder LAME the file AKsack.wav was converted into the MP3 format without using any parameters. All systems used LAME builds with Altivec support. The value for the X1000 was confirmed by OS4-developer Hans de Ruiter.
Blender
With the raytracer Blender the included example bricks_and_water_plugin.blend was rendered with the following command line:
blender_binary -b projects/bricks_and_water_plugin.blend -o ram:pool -F JPEG -f 0
The value for the X1000 was reported by AmigaOne tester sundown, the value for the Sam440ep by the developer who ported Blender to AmigaOS 4, Andy "broadblues" Broad.
MPlayer: H264-decoding
With the MorphOS MPlayer (and the corresponding AmigaOS 4 port MUI-Mplayer) and the parameters specified below the graphic the H264-encoded video file prometheus-trailer.zip was decoded without showing the result on the screen. The value for the X1000 was reported by X1000-tester Stephen "stevieu" Umney.
dnetc
Using the distributed.net client, keys for the OGR-NG and RC5-72 projects were calculated (source). All Systems are using the Altivec unit of their processor for these tests - with the exception of the Sam460, which doesn't have Altivec.
Copying file
A 46 Mb file (AKsack.wav) was copied from one partition to another and then from a partition to the Ram Disk. The results of this test are affected by many external factors like the filesystem used or the mass storage device the partitions reside on. The value for the X1000 was reported by X1000 owner Mufa.
RageMem
The benchmark tool RageMem tests the access time for various memory types. Due to a missing MorphOS version, the test on a PowerMac was performed running the AmigaOS 4 build on OS4Emu:

Indivision ECS: Core 1.10 (beta version) / SuperPlus monitor driver 40.5
For the Flickerfixer Indivision ECS a new beta version of the core was published. Additionally the SuperPlus monitor driver was updated.
With the Core-version 1.10 the Indivision ECS now can view a solution of 800x600 pixels - compared with the Super72-mode without the limitation of the ECS chipset to four of 64 colours. The user 'mfilos' has published a test with screenshots in a Blog.

AmigaOS 4 / AROS: HueFlow 0.3
HueFlow is the port of a well-known game for the cell phone: The player has to "flood" a colourful screen step by step with a single colour by selecting the next colour to be flooded (screenshot).
HueFlow now was released under the GPL. In version 0.3 you can now also play against the computer.

Bounty: Purchase of source codes of Directory Opus Magellan
Olaf Schönweiß and Dr. Greg Perry (GPSoft) agreed a possible release of the source code of the well-known file manager Directory Opus Magellan II (version 5.82). For 5600 US-Dollar Perry would release the sources under the AROS Public License, which is a derivative of Mozilla Public License.
The purchase will also a include a limited license for the trademark "Directory Opus Magellan" that will grant the right to use it for software running on Amigoid platforms.

Amithlon: Kernel-Update with hardware-accelerated graphic drivers
For Amithlon a new Kernel-update is available which supports hardware-accelerated graphic operations on AGP and PCIe graphic boards like ATI Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 or GeForce PCX 5300, PCX 5750 and PCX 5900.
The kernel is available in three different versions: As IDE driver (kernel4.rar), IDE and SATA driver (kernel4sata.rar) and IDE, SATA and SCSI driver (kernel4scsi.rar).

jAMOS: AMOS-Reimplementation in Java
jAMOS is a Java-based reimplementation for the Basic dialect AMOS. Alpha version 0.1 now is available.
The same author published before with jAMAL the AMOS Animation Language under Java.
The available alpha version 0.1 only support parts of the AMOS-commands. jAMOS is open source.

Retro-Gaming: WHDLoad 17.1 (Beta 2)
With WHDLoad you can install games and scene demos on your harddrive which originally were published on disks. Additionally several incompatibilities with new Amiga models were fixed. In version 17.1 beta 2 the Instruction Cache on 68020-processors is not activated any longer.
WHDLoad 17.1 is a beta version which has to be installed over an existing installation of version 17.0.

AROS-Distribution AspireOS 1.6
Nikolaos Tomatsidis has published a new version of his AROS-distribution AspireOS. This mainly is meant to be used with an Acer-netbook Aspire One but should work with different hardware, too.
AspireOS 1.6 is not an update for existing versions, it is distributed as ISO-image and has to be installed over the existing AspireOS-system. This new version mainly includes improvements of the graphical user-interface.
A package with games is distributed separately.

Hired Guns-/Dungeon Master-clone: Cyber Blast 2
Cyber Blast 2 (screenshots: 1, 2) is a "Dungeon Crawler" similar to Dungeon Master or Hired Guns. For the first time the game was published on Aminet as Shareware 12 years ago. Now the full version is available on the Polish Amiga website PPA.
The archive includes an installation script with which you can install Cyber Blast 2 on harddrive or disks.

A-EON Technology: AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" systems now shipping
As A-EON Technology announces in the press release below, the First Contact systems of the AmigaONE X1000 with AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 are shipping to regular customers now.
The latter will receive AmigaOS 4.2 for free once available, while work on Update 5 for other platforms starts now. The price of the system, if three additional GB of RAM and twice the size of the harddisk compared to the default configuration are chosen, is 1915 pound sterling excluding VAT and shipping.

Wellington, 25th January 2012. A-EON Technology and Hyperion Entertainment are pleased to announce that the AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 CD, exclusively created for the AmigaONE X1000 "First Contact" system has gone gold. The professionally re-mastered CD will be supplied in a printed boxed set along with copies of the AmigaONE X1000 and AmigaOS 4.1 "Quick Start" guides.
Steven Solie, Hyperion Entertainment's AmigaOS Development Team Lead said, "The team worked hard to reach this important milestone in the development of the Amiga Operating System. With AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 completed for the AmigaONE X1000 we can concentrate on versions for all the other supported hardware platforms as we continue to push towards the future release of AmigaOS 4.2."

Firefox-Port: Status-Update for Timberwolf
Thomas Frieden has published a new status update for the Firefox port "Timberwolf". He wrote:
"I haven't posted a progress report for a few weeks. This is not because there was nothing new, but the news are mostly "boring": Fixing bugs, implementing some missing features and so on.
One feature worth mentioning is that Timberwolf will now adapt to the color scheme of your workbench. That means it will use the GUI prefs colors for it's user interface drawing and this will be a big step towards making it feel more like an Amiga application.

MorphOS: 3D-Shooter "Cube 2: Sauerbraten"
Guillaume "Yomgui" Roguez has ported the 3D-Shooter Cube 2: Sauerbraten to MorphOS. The PowerSDL 14 as well as the original files of the game are required which are available on the official website.
In order to start the game in a window on a Ambient screen you have to put in the options "-t -w640 -h480" (for a 640x480 window) at the start. The author is looking for an older version of PowerSDL because v14 has some stability problems. Additionally the server was not tested and the client has still some bugs. Currently the most stable client is the RPG-client.

AROS: printer.device in development
Jason McMullan has started developing a printer.device for AROS. The device is supposed to print Postscript Level 2 - either in a file or with the help of Pipe into another programm. According to the author the device may be finished at the beginning of April.

AROS: Bounty for adapting Zune to MUI 3.8
Neil Cafferkey has accepted the bounty project (currently donated with 1020 US-Dollar) for adapting and improving Zune. The goal is to adapt the open source clone of MUI to version 3.8 of it by adding all missing features and deleting all difference.
With this step porting software to AROS or developing cross-platform applications (AmigaOS, AROS, MorphOS) is supposed to be facilitated. Cafferkey will try to finish the project until the end of July.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.3 (alpha version)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interface (64 colours) which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad games (.slave, .exe) and only requires few resources.
According to the developer the programm runs on all Amigas (OCS to AGA) as well as from 68000 to 68060 processors and requires very little RAM. The changes in alpha version 0.3 can be found under the title link.

AmigaOS 4: RadeonHD driver 0.32 for Sam460 / AmigaOne 500
ACube Systems has published a new version of the RadeonHD driver for PCIe- graphic boards written by Hans de Ruiter. If you did not get the update via eMail then please use the ACube-contact formular.
Bug fixes in version 0.32:
- Some R700 GPUs were locking up when compositing "large" vertex arrays. FIXED
- Screens that were larger than the display resolution were garbled. FIXED
- R500 vertex array clipping was one pixel larger than it was supposed to be (could cause the right-hand edge to spill over to the left most column of pixels). FIXED
- Fixed an R500 compositing bug that could cause corruption if one compositing operation rapidly draws directly over the previous one
- WaitTOF() and similar functions could cause the machine to lockup when called from a task with a priority >= 1. FIXED

Megaupload closed: UAE-author Mathias Ortmann arrested
The Department of Justice of the Uninated States charges leaders of Megaupload with widespread online copyright infringement (Wikipedia). The charge was brought against Kim 'kimble' Schmitz and Mathias 'scuz' Ortmann (PDF, 974 KB).
Ortmann is known as one of the original authors of the Amiga emulator UAE who ported it to Windows. At Megaupload he was supposed to be engineering manager and co-founder of the company.

AROS: Workbench replacement Scalos ported
Matthias Rustler has ported the Workbench replacement Scalos to AROS. Because Scalos requires DOS-packages, the port is only available for AROS-systems with the ABI-V1 binary interface.
In a statement on aros-exec.org the author explained the problems which still exists: Drag'n Drop as well as the "Lasso" for choosing several icons do not work. The AROS-icons do not look very nice because the format of the pictogramm is still not supported. Additionally the content of a directory is not listed. Then simply choose "update" from the menu list.

NetBSD: G-REX support implemented
The NetBSD operating system now includes support for G-REX 1200 and G-REX 4000 bus boards. The driver is experimental, currently only top PCI slot is supported. Work on improving the driver continues, progress can be observed in the Amibay forum. (snx)

MorphOS: Uplink - Trust is a weakness

AmigaOS.net: List of AmigaOS developers
On Hyperion's official AmigaOS website a list of all developers was published who have contributed significant parts from the beginning until AmigaOS 4.
Olaf Barthel has started writung the list from the entries of the source codes and Robert "RJ" Mical and Bryce Nesbitt have completed it.

AmigaOS 4: Gui4Cli 3.8.7 creates user-interfaces for Rexx and DOS scripts
With D. Keletsekis' Gui4Cli you can create complex, Gadtools-based user-interfaces e.g. for DOS or Rexx scripts. Examples can be found in the GUI gallery or on Joseph Duchâtelet's Gui4CLI-site.
Joseph Duchâtelet has ported the program to AmigaOS 4. An installation of the AmigaOS 3 version of the program is required and the Gui4Cli-executable have to be replaced by Duchâtelet's OS4-build.

AROS: Patch 03 for Icaros Desktop 1.3.3
For version 1.3.3 of his AROS-distribution Icaros Desktop, Paolo Besser has published a new update which includes new system files as well as the latest PaperCuts.
Chganges:
- fix for commodities like FKey: they don't appear iconified on the desktop anymore
- fix for italian translation: it will now be re-enabled in Wanderer
- added iconify button to Zune windows title bar (must be enabled by user)
- fix for ICE, Icaros Classic and Icaros Blue themes to support iconify button
The following problems are known:
- Wookie Chat, PSI prefs and other programs crash on de-iconification
- InstallAROS (and maybe others) crash on iconification
- SimpleMail crashes if double-clicked on its custom AppIcon
- no fixes to problems reported with icon.library
- iconify gadget has no image in other Icaros decorations, so default "3.1" rectangle will be used

MorphOS: Legend of Edgar 0.96

Aminet celebrates 20th anniversary
On January 16th 1992 an user called Urban Müller posted announcement of a new FTP-server to the newsgroup comp.sys.amiga.misc: There not only several Amiga files could be found under amiga.physik.unizh.ch but it also is the official FTP-site for Amiga Unix. This first announcement have already included the typical upload lists.
From this little server hosted on an Amiga 3000 UX which should not be accessed "between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m." by external users so the administrators could use it for its own purposes it has become the center for Amiga software as well as the biggest software archive of the world with 34 servers and about 100 MB uploads per month.

AmigaOS 4 / AROS: Picture viewer LoView 2.37
LoView written by Simone 'Tuxedo' Monsignori is a picture viewer with support of datatypes which also includes some simple picture editing functions. The pictures also can be viewed as "thumbnails". Version 2.37 currently is available for AmigaOS 4 and AROS/x86.
Changes:
- Added a ContextMenu entry ("Open > Thumb") to open current displayed pic dir in LoViewThumb
- Added a .info filter option to avoid LoView/LoViewThumb to load info files
- Fixed some bugs
- Added new prefs to Pop To Front LoView or LoViewThumb when sending thumbs/image from one to another task

Apollo-040/060 accelerator boards: RemApollo 1.8
Benedict Dziubaltowski obtained the permission of releasing version 1.8 of "RemApollo" which is a program archive written by Mikolaj Całusiński for Apollo accelerator boards with 68040 or 68060 processors.
Please note that the documentation was not updated. Therefore you will use this software at your own risk. The archive of version 1.8 includes an upgrade which requires RemApollo 1.7. RemApollo is a collection of tools which can copy the Kickstart-ROM to the Fast-RAM and there modify it for increasing the performance speed.
