Action adventure: Port of Heart of Darkness (1998)
Heart of Darkness, released in the late 1990s, is inspired by Chahi's classic Another World but was delivered on CD and therefore offered more animations. Now Artur "Arti" Jarosik has ported the game to AmigaOS. Additionasl to the original files of the game an upgraded Amiga are required - a 68060 or Apollo processor is recommended.

Game collection of Luca Carminati for free download
On itch.io, Luca Carminati has released some arcade games for free download which he developed in the mid-1990s for the Amiga. In his Amiga Games Pack (video) the Shareware games Kangy and HyperViper as well as the 'Asteroids' clone 'Croins', the Pang game 'Marietto' and the ski racing game 'Slalom Speciale' are included.

Commercial text adventure: 'Tristam Island' available

A-EON Technology has released an update of its text editor MultiEdit which is only available via the Updater tool. For purchasers of the version released in 2016 or of the commercial Enhancer software, MultiEdit 1.13 is available for free.

AmiModRadio is "a program to automatically download, extract, and play modules from Aminet." A rating function is included as well. The new version "now has three tasks collaborating to bring you the best modules from the Internet". CS-Lab: Prototypes of accelerator boards Warp 3060/4060 and of CDTV-60
On his "unofficial Warp 3060/4060 page", Greg Donner reports about news of CS-Lab. According to him, now prototypes of the accelerator boards Warp 3060/4060 and CDTV-60 have been finished. Both boards have socketed 68060 CPUs.

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.83
RedPill developed by Carlos Peris is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - see our little review of two games. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires a total of 1,5 MB RAM.
Changes in version 0.83:
- Compiler changed from Amiblitz 2.44 to Amiblitz 3.8. This has some implications:
- Now lower limit to play games is a Motorola 68000 instead of a 68020.
- There are two editors, one generic and one for 020+.
- When exporting a game you have to select if it is generic or for 020+.
- Performance seems slightly better.
- To avoid compilation issues, some more memory is used by the game player.

Mousemeter written by Stefan Blixth (OnyxSoft) is a Screenbar extension for Ambient "which let you see the amount of mouse movements

Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 1.7 of his web browser Wayfarer. Additional to bug fixes - e.g. tar.gz archives were decompressed on the fly while downloading them, some new features like online version check have been added.

Mutation Software: 'Gold Compilation' for CD32, CyberPunks 2 announced
The Mutation Gold Compilation, released in 1998, is a CD32-compatible CD containing Mutation's games Doodlebug, Cyberpunks, Tin Toy, Tommy Gun and Castle Kingdoms. The first two games were adapted to the CD32 joypad. All the games are also available in the new edition but "fixed, updated and remastered by the original developers" and can be purchased now.
Additionally on its website Mutation Software has announced a second part for the top down shooter Cyberpunks.

Arcade puzzle: ZGR3D available as 'Boxed Edition'
In ZG3D developed by Project R3D (video) the player has to remove falling Tetris blocks to make space for more blocks permanently falling from the top of the screen. The game runs on any Amiga equipped with at least Kickstart 1.1.
Meanwhile the game, which was released in April for free, can be purchased in a 'Boxed Edition': Two shops offers worldwide and only for Polish customers a DVD box with CD, disk and poster.

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.82
RedPill developed by Carlos Peris is a Game Construction Kit written in AmiBlitz2, which can help developing games of diverse genres - see our little review of two games. RedPill is compatible to AGA and ECS, the "player" requires 1 MB Fast RAM.
Changes since version 0.8:
- In settings screen now you can select if you want to use a custom screen or the workbench for file requesters.
- Added action Repeat Every to execute actions every certain time.
- In Animation screen the animation number can be selected using an input field.
- In Animation screen you can modify the frame offset using the cursor keys.
- In Objects screen, Display Offset X and Y can be set using an input field.
- Bigger limit for sprite size when using the Auto Slice option.
- Extra checks and optimization for Auto Slice option.
- In Screen menu, a color other than 0 can be overwritten, from 0(background) to 127.
- BG Color and BG Rainbow action triggers are now named Overwrite Color and Overwrite Gradient.
- Physics: Speed on col behavior reviewed.
- Performance: Improved performance of math routines.
- FIX: CD32 play CD routines fixed to allow more than one track being played.
- FIX: After moving to another level sometimes there was a glitch in the scroll.
- FIX: When re-adding objects in the level, sometimes they were not added.
- FIX: Screen width was not reset when loading a new game.

Puzzle game: AmiBrixx 2.1 for all Amiga systems
Two weeks ago we reported about version 2.0 of Jörg 'Evil' Renkert's puzzle game AmiBrixx. In this game you try to "elminate groups of stones of the same color. Thereby the other stones will fall down and form new groups. The game ends, when no more groups can be eliminated."
Yesterday the author released version 2.1 providing some minor bug fixes: In the Amiga 68k version now the full screen is used on lower screen solutions (such as HighRes or HighRes Interlaced) which we can confirm by our tests. In the Windows version the game screen moved other windows to top/back sometimes. This was fixed.
The author would be grateful for any feedback including ideas and suggestions for improvement.

Competition Pro clone featuring Arcade parts: ArcadeR (Update)
The ArcadeR's design is heavily inspired by the classic 'Competition' joysticks, but inside the newcomer is making use of actual Arcade components - a noname clone of a Sanwa joystick mechanism, to be precise. The sticks are available in different colours and provide optional autofire as well as a configurable 2nd fire button.
Two small switches at the front of the case are used for (de)activating autofire and selecting if the right fire button should act as button 2 or button 3. The autofire frequency can be adjusted using a potentiometer, but that potentiometer can only be accessed after opening the case. The second fire button is not electrically compatible across different systems, so the customer needs to specify the target system when purchasing a stick. This setting can be switched between "Atari/Amiga" and "C64" later on using a solder bridge.

Despite the UK top level domain of the official website, RetroRadionics is actually based in China. If the joysticks are in stock, users keep reporting shipping times as short as two weeks, but German users keep reporting Problems with DHL (German: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) when their packages are getting relabeled by DHL after they arrive in Germany. The only European distributor of the ArcadeR known to us at the time of writing is the British dealer ZX Renew.

AmigaOS 4: Games collection for AmiCygnix 1.6
Edgar Schwan has updated his games collection for his X11 environment AmiCygnix. 24 games are included, most of them board- or cardgames but also a shoot'em up and a interactive fractal zoomer.
New in version 1.6:
- New game "Pioneers", a clone of "Settlers of Catan".
- Neue versions:
- Ace of Penguins 1.4 instead of version 1.2. The card game "Spider" has been added and the card game "Solitaire" offers new possibilities. The GUI tool for starting the individual games has been revised and optimized for standalone start.
- XEmeraldia 0.4.3 instead of version 0.4.1. The graphics have been optimized.
- XGalaga 2.1.1.0 instead of version 2.0.34. The playing field is now bigger and a variation called "Hyperspace" is now included.
- The xMahjongg GUI tool has been revised and optimized for standalone start.
- All programs have been recompiled. Programs that require GTK+ 2 now use GTK+ 2.24.32.
- All programs can now be started "Standalone".

Single screen platform game: 'Super Pumpkin Brothers' announced for 2021
The Single screen platform game 'Super Pumpkin Brothers' is a clon of the classic arcade game Snow Bros.. A first playable preview has been already released in 2007 - but then the development stopped. It was now restarted by a six-man team. A video shows the current state of the development.

Free graphic set for game developer: "NEONworld"
One of the submissions to the Amiga Art Contest 2020 was a graphic set for an imaginary game called "NEONworld". On his Patreon website, the graphics artist Kevin Saunders has provided the set as zip archive. It can be used in free game projects without any limitations. Saunders only wants to be listed in the credits.
The graphics are meant for screen solutions of 320x256, use 16 colours and were drawn on the Amiga using Brilliance. The UFO was rendered with Lightwave. An example level for the game concept intended by Saunders is included as well.

Early video preview: Jump'n Run 'Duckstroma'
In Erik 'earok' Hogan's jump'n run 'Duckstroma' the player controls a duck which can use its eggs for jumping in higher levels. The game already has been released for MSX and ZX Spectrum using the flip-screen feature.
Now a video of the Amiga prototype was published showing smoothly scrolling levels. The port for the Amiga is written with Hogan's Game Construction Kit Scorpion Engine.

Competition: Submissions to the 'Amiga Art Contest 2020' released

3D-Shooter: Another early Tech-Demo from 'Blask'
'Blask' (video) is a 3D-Shooter written in AMOS which is still in the very early stage of development and is supposd to be run on an Amiga 500. In a discussion on ppa.pl (Polish) the developer has talked about the latest progress of the game. He has already released two pre-versions of the game under the former name "Alien Enemy: Dangerous".

Little discourse on render-library
In our report about the game AmiBrixx we have attended the auhor Jörn Renkert on the fact that under usually an OS3 port of a Hollywood application requires a graphics card and therefore pushing a port for AGA Amigas.
Unfortunately we did not succeed in running the game on an Amiga1200 equipped with Blizzard 1230 and 128 MB FastRAM. All required libraries have been installed as mentioned by the author. Before this test, on the Amiga of our editor version 40.8 of the render.library was installed but disabled. Instead of it, version 30.0 was active. After even the last edited version released by the author crahed we did remember the previously disabled version 40.8 render.library.
After resetting the system to version 30.0, the game started without problems. We then found two diiferent versions of the library on Aminet:
- Version 40.8, released in 2005, and
- version 32.0, released this year.
Contrary to the information given there in the readmes, version 40.8 was written by Timm S. Mueller (e.g. graphics card picture viewer Mysticview), version 32.0 by Henryk Richter (e.g. author of the music player Eagleplayer). Getting more information about the different versions, we asked the authors for a statement. Kindly enough both oh them replied. Hendryk Richter has summarized it:
"Version 32 of the render.library are virtually identical to 30.0/31.0. After consultation with Timm, the version bump from 31 to 32 was done to merge the different versions of the v30 branch available on Aminet. Only a build for 68060 without FPU was added since the last upload. I do not know any program (68k) which requires a version >30 of the render.library.
The development branch V40 of the render.library was Timm's rewrite in C of the assembler version for providing the option of porting it to PPC platforms. As mentioned in the readme, this re-implementation the much slower on 68k Amigas with processor <68040. It is recommended to use V30-V32 with 68k."
After the installation of version 32.0, the game also worked fine. Therefore we do not only recommend version 32.0 for 68k Amigas - considering the crashes we must advise against this version 40.8.
On request of amigas-news.de the author Timm S. Mueller explained that currently he is not going to deal with it again.

Video: 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast #79 - Ultimate Floppy Emulator
In issue 79 of his videocast 10MARC, Douglas Compton has introduced the Ultimate Floppy Emulator developed by Edu Arana and compares it with the GoTek drive. The floppy emulator can be connected internally or externally to the computer, the AFD files can be provided on an USB stick or on a MicroSD card.
Currently the Ultimate Floppy Emulator is sold out, but preorders for the next batch are possible.

Adrian Cummings' AGA platform game 'Wiz' (promotion video) is now available. The boxed edition can be purchased for 21 British Pound - about 23 Euro - shipping included. AMOS: Overlaying different layers with ALS
Simone 'saimo' Bevilacqua has written "ALS", the AMOS Layers System, which "turns the screens of AMOS Professional into layers that can be laid over one another, with complete control of order, colors and opaqueness, while keeping them renderable as usual." (video).
It was written in AMOS and thus is available as a source code library.

Unfinished Jump'n Run: Jab Jum
"Jab Jum" (video, download website) is an unfinished jump'n run game written in 1996 in AMOS. Currently an user tries to get the complete AMOS source code "so maybe someone can debug the game (colission issues) and make some more levels if anybody is interested."

Emulator: FS-UAE 3.0.5 (update)
Frode Solheim's Amiga emulator FS-UAE provides the new features made in WinUAE to a cross-platform UAE version for Windows, Mac OS X and several Linux and BSD versions. Although specific release notes still are not available, the main page of FS-UAE as well as the main window after starting the program inform about the new version 3.0.5.
Update: Added release notes taken from the English Amiga Board (01.11.2020, 07:20 dr)
Changes in FS-UAE since version 3.0.3:
- Fix compilation of sana2.cpp with GCC 10.
- Fix OpenGL shaders with multiple passes on macOS.
- Include compilation fix for "unknown" CPUs architectures.
- Updated the GLAD OpenGL loader.
Changes in FS-UAE Launcher since version 3.0.3:
- Workaround for old file database entries with incorrect \ escape.
- Filename escaping for FS-UAE and .uaem comments when using .lha files as HDs.
- Fixed bug in escaping of \ in archive.py.

Puzzle game: AmiBrixx 2.0 for all Amiga systems
Jörg 'Evil' Renkert wrote about the game: "In a field of stacked stones, your target is to elminate groups of stones of the same color. Thereby the other stones will fall down and form new groups. The game ends, when no more groups can be eliminated."
The gameplay of the original release from 2004 is the same as in version 2.0 but online highscores and the option of downloading "skins" from within the game were added. AmiBrixx was written with Hollywood and therefore is available for AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS, AROS, Windows, Linux, Mac OS and Android.

Developer package: "DevPack" installs diverse compilers, editors and tools
The free "DevPack" provided by Dimitris Panokostas and Philipp Lonke is meant for Amiga users who under AmigaOS are going to develop software. The package is hosted on the Amikit website but does not have any dependencies on the commercial Workbench environment and can be installed on harddrive by extracting the lzx archive. Diverse compilers, text editors and other tools are included as listed in the Readme.

PDF magazine: REV'n'GE 115 (Italian/English)
The PDF magazine REV'n'GE ("Retro Emulator Vision and Game") is available in Italian as well as in an English-language translation. REV'n'GE compares and reviews games and programs on vintage computers.
Among others the latest issue includes Amiga articles about the classic point and click graphic adventure "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and the Formula One car race "Vroom".

Wolfram Alpha question machine for Amiga systems: AskYourAmiga 0.2
According to the author, AskYourAmiga, in short AYA, is "a very early version of a GUI for Wolfram Alpha question machine" (Wikipedia entry). It does not find any links but right away the answer which can be also represented in e.g. graphs.
In version 0.2 "related searches" as well as a history of your searches and suggestions sorted in categories have been added. As usual the program is available for AmigaOS 3/4, AROS (x86, x64, ARM) and MorphOS.

Final Writer: New screenshots / release date is getting closer
In 2015 Timothy 'terminills' Deters has acquired the rights to the word processing software "Final Writer" (amiga-news.de reported). The latest screenshots show font rendering and spelling.
Final Writer will be able to save documents as a PDF. Furthermore Deters wrote: "RTF has been updated to the final spec as well. I have many future enhancements planned based on how quickly I can recover my costs. You can print to selectable devices and PDFDirect support has been started but it'll take a little bit before I would say that is feature complete."
He also said that there is a "a slim possibility of releasing FW before the end of the year".

HDMI converter: D520 available again

Retro gaming: WHDLoad 18.6
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. Version 18.6 provides the following changes:
- WHDLoad now disables interrupts of graphics cards under
the Picasso96 software. This should solve problems with
Spectrum cards and newer P96 releases (issue #2598). Thanks
to Thomas Richter for providing useful information.
- Manual translations are in sync again for catalan and czech.
- Kickemu kick31.s can be instructed to load/init the custom
nonvolatile.s via option INIT_NONVOLATILE.
- nonvolatile.s now correctly works on searching nonexistent
items in a existing nvram file
- In kickemu kick13.s a waitblit has been added to avoid
problems with the gfx.Text patch (Psygore).
- The provided source keyboard.s now uses cia timers instead the
raster beam for the keyboard acknowledge delay.
- Access faults of size word to address -1 and of size long to
addresses -3..-1 are now reliable detected and reported.
In earlier releases: on 68030: when ExpMem was used these were
undetected, on 68040: when ExpMem was used and vector base was
not write protected (e.g. Freezer detected, Snoop*,
resload_Protect used) these were undetected, if vector base
was protected a fault inside WHDLoad was reported, on 68060:
these were always correctly reported
- To reduce the likelihood that resload functions get
interrupted by other calls to resload functions, some resload
functions which usually take not much execution time, have
been changed to be not interruptible anymore.
The following resload functions have been changed that way:
Abort, SetCACR, FlushCache, Control, Protect#?, SetCPU,
GetCustom, VSNPrintF and Log.
In general the option NoResInt/S can be used to avoid problems
with interrupted resload calls at the cost of possible sound/
graphics distortions when interrupts are disabled for a longer
time.
- The provided source sources/whdload/savegame.s is now fully
pc-relative. It contains also additional fixes for interrupt
acknowledge and AGA compatibility (JOTD/ross).
- The inplace decruncher for the old RNC1 format has been
improved to support files which need a larger distance
(Heimdall/JOTD).
- The kick31.s now prefers a A600 kickstart image if NO68020 is
set. It fails now if there is only a 68000/010 and a
A1200/A4000 kickstart image was loaded (JOTD).
- When using kickfs.s the dos.library function
Open(MODE_READWRITE) now performs correctly on Kickstart 3.1
by creating a non-existent file. On Kickstart 1.3 the old
behavior remains to not create a file.
- If a call to resload_Examine is attempted without the flag
WHDLF_Examine has been set in the Slave structure WHDLoad now
terminates with an appropriate error message (JOTD).
- The kickemu kick12.s, kick13.s and kick31.s has been modified
to automatically set the Slave flag WHDLF_Examine if HDINIT is
set (JOTD).
- When using resload_Relocate with tags CHIPPTR/FASTPTR and the
specified chip/fast memory location would result in an
overlapping with base executable WHDLoad now gives a useful
error message (JOTD).
- Instead of waiting for a long video frame WHDLoad now forces a
long frame before starting the Slave. This fixes startup
problems on Kickstart 3.0 and an interlace video mode
(issue #4798).
- MMU-table creation has been reworked. It is now faster and
uses less memory.
- Support for ACA-freezer added.
- if "*" is specified for the Slave to load WHDLoad searchs the
current directory for a file with the pattern "#?.slave" and
will use the first file matching (Toni Wilen)

This year's AmiWest is taking place this weekend - as usual in Sacramento, California. Our news-item will be updated as further videos, news (besides release of Enhancer Core) and reports are released.

- Report of Thomas Richter: Individual Computers has released version 3.0 of the RTG driver P96, free for those ones who purchased the software during the last 12 months. It now "supports screen dragging for all graphic cards included in the package, except for the CVisionPPC whose hardware lacks a particular feature to make it work. The next important feature is that there is a new driver pair, namely for the CVisionPPC and BVisionPPC boards. They support all bitmap types (unlike under CGfx) except planar, namely chunky 8 bit, 16 bit RGB, 16 Bit RGB PC, 16 bit BGR PC, 24 bit RGB, 24 bit BGR, 32 bit RGBA, 32 bit BGRA, 32 bit ARGB and 32 bit ABGR."
- Report of TribbleSmasher: The accelerator board ACA 1260 developed by Individual Computers "is still delayed as features are added and it seems the focus will be on the 040 version because of the shortage or insane prices for 060 cpus.
IComp also produced new dsub23 connectors and will create a bugfixed Buster12 chip with Dave Haynie! - ACube will produce the Tabor A1222 prototypes and Tabor is no longer called by its code name anymore.
Also the sound driver is ready..." Only "a few bugs to iron out" (AmigaKit). - TribbleSmasher continues writing: "AmigaOS4 updates and bugfixes are plentiful but there is some controversy how to distribute them: new disc or other methods, and date is ambigious too."
- Report of Amifrog (not public): The kernel ExecSG now boots faster and includes new mechanism for later support of multiple cores; a new version of the Enhancer Software is planned for X-MAS; a PPC-native version of ImageFX Studio was announced.

Print magazine: Amiga Addict announced
"Amiga Addict" aims at reestablishing a british Amiga print magazine after 14 years. Required are 500 buyers, though. Currently, 84 copies of issue #1 have been preordered. Included will be all Amiga flavours from 68k via PPC and AROS to Vampire.
December's issue will be available - according to its webshop - for 4.50 UKP and consist of 54 full-colour A4 pages. A digital version will be available as well and be free of charge for subscribers of the printed magazine. Among the content announced are interviews with Dave Haynie and Cloanto, articles about Kim Justice and AmigaBill, a tutorial about using Compact Flash on Amiga, a report about a Raspberry Pi used as Amiga 600 and an article about PageStream.
