amiga-news.de: Server migration finished, team changes
Meanwhile the announced server migration was finished. We would like to thank our both technicans Sven Drieling and Philippe Bourdin.

With the migration our former publisher Nico Barbat left the team of amiga-news.de. Eight years ago he had taken the responsibility from the founder Petra Struck. Without his engagement amiga-news.de would not exist in the current way. We would like to thank him for his longtime support.

We also say good bye to a second amiga-news.de member: Marc Albrecht who worked for the former Amiga dealer ACT has hosted the news for more than ten years. We would like to thank him as well.

This is the current team of amiga-news.de:

Christoph Gutjahr (cg): Editorial staff, Publisher
Martin Heine (snx): Editorial staff, Publisher
Daniel Reimann (dr): English translation
Carsten Schröder (cs): Newsticker
Philippe Bourdin (pab): Technician
Sven Drieling (sd): Technician

From now on amiga-news.de is on a server of the Aminet-team. We would like to thank Nicolas Mendoza for his support.

If you want to support our team then you are very welcome. Please send a eMail to team@amiga-news.de. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Commercial WLAN-driver with WPA/WPA2-support (AmigaOS 3/4)
For a long time Neil Cafferkey has been working on a network driver for PCI and PCMCIA-WLAN boards with the Prism 2-chipset. All available, free versions only could handle the WEP-encryption.

According to Cafferkey on amiga.org, now he offers a commercial version of the driver for AmigaOS 3/4 which supports WPA-/WPA2-encryption as well. For 15 Euro for each board you will get a driver for AmigaOS 3 and/or 4. You can write your requests per eMail to the author.

In order to use the WLAN-board with the Amiga driver among others a firmware update is required. Cafferkey recommends version 1.7.4 and refers to an English tutorial. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Emulator: Preview to WinUAE 2.3.2
As usual the developers of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE has given a preview to the next version. WinUAE 2.3.2 is supposed to be published in one or two weeks and for the first time is supposed to be used a 68k-port of AROS as Kickstart replacement if there is not an official Kickstart.

New features:
  • AROS ROM replacement development snapshot included, replaces old very basic ROM replacement feature, used by default if official KS ROM is not found
  • New autofire option. Button released = autofire. Button pressed = normal non-autofire firebutton
  • Stop the CPU and wait until blitter has finished if any blitter register is accessed while blitter is busy and CPU mode is fastest possible
  • Better workaround than immediate blitter for programs that have blitter wait bugs with fast CPU
  • Serial port telnet server

Updates:
  • Disk emulation accuracy improved (Codertrash / Mexx, El Egg Tronic Quarts / Quadlite)
  • CIA timer undocumented startup delays emulated (Risky Woods sound glitches)
  • win32.floppy_path and win32.hardfile_path really works as expected
  • Display panel refresh rate accepts non-integer values

Bug fixes:
  • Implemented workaround that should fix Direct3D blank screen problem
  • Sample ripper crash
  • 68000 exception 3 emulation fixed again. (Broke compatibility with some very old copy protections, for example Soldier of Light and Zoom!)
  • Reset bug that broke Arcadia mode, A1000 mode and Action Replay ROMs
  • Automatic resolution switch interlace detection was unreliable
  • CD32 early boot menu is accessible again
  • Rare crash when switching from fullscreen RTG mode to native mode
  • Borderblank chipset feature didn't work in ECS Denise mode
  • Possible input configuration corruption due to uninitialized variable
  • Color change table overflow crash that can happen when emulated program crashes really badly

Amiga 600: Memory extension A604
The A604 developed by Individual Computers is the successor of the Amiga 600 memory extension A603. It offers 1 MB additional Chip RAM, a battery-backed clock, a clockport for Amiga 1200 expansion modules as well as an expansion socket for the Indivision ECS.

The A604's new design allows to mount an Indivision ECS without losing the floppy disk drive (which was a problem with the A603 card). Additionally, the A604 now features a second clockport especially designed for the Subway USB controller module. This second clockport can boast a performance gain of 60% compared to a standard clockport, so the Subway's USB transfers are faster than ever before. (cg) (Translation: dr)
