APC&TCP: Merchandising items for the 40th Amiga birthday
Press release: "The Amiga will soon be 40 years old, and we've been thinking long and hard about what we could do. Users who were at the ARC or saw photos from the ARC do already know what we're talking about. :)
Red Aqua Media designed last year what we think is a beautiful motif for the Amiga's 40th anniversary. We naturally took advantage of this opportunity, and almost twenty "40 Years of Amiga" merchandise items are now available in our online shop. Depending on whether we receive further requests or have other good ideas, there will be more "40 Years of Amiga" products available throughout the year." (snx)

Group of investors represented by Youtuber Perifractic buys Commodore
Three weeks ago, Youtuber Christian 'Perifractic' Simpson announced in a video that he had received an offer to take over Commodore B.V., the owner of the remaining Commodore trademark rights. In a second video published today he now announces the completed takeover: A group of unnamed angel investors has acquired the company for a low seven-figure sum. He himself is now the acting CEO, but the purchase price has not yet been paid - the company is still looking for investors.
In the half-hour video, Simpson lists a whole series of former Commodore employees (Michael Tomczyk, Bil Herd, David Pleasance, support staff such as James Harrison and Hans Olsen) or actor Thomas Middleditch ("Silicon Valley") as future "advisors". A financial participation of the community is not yet possible, as the international legal hurdles are too high. Commodore plans to revive the time before social networks and artificial intelligence, when
computer technology was still considered a utopia rather than the scourge of mankind, with new "retro-futuristic" products. The years around the turn of the millennium are cited as a model several times.
There already seems to be a pretty clear idea of what Commodore's first "retro-futuristic" product will be - but Simpson won't reveal exactly what it is until the next video. Once again, however, the Youtuber praises the Linux distribution Commodore OS Vision, which was created during the Commodore USA era by former Commodore USA and future Commodore CTO Leo Nigro. This time it is explicitly described as "retro-futuristic", analogous to the planned hardware product.
In addition to further investors, in order to actually be able to pay the sum called for the sale, the company is currently looking for a social media manager and "merchandise designers".
Editor's note: The Dutch company Commodore B.V., which Simpson and his investors have acquired, owns the "Commodore" trade marks and the "Chickenlips" logo. The rights to the Amiga brands and all 8-bit and Amiga software went to Gateway after the ESCOM bankruptcy and are now owned by Michael Battilana's Amiga Corp

PC extension: mount HD partition from "KCS Power PC Board" on AmigaOS
The KCS Power PC Board equips an A500 or A2000 with a miniature DOS PC - the computer can then be operated alternatively in Amiga or PC mode. Sander von der Burg has succeeded in developing a simple device driver for AmigaOS that mounts any DOS partitions created by the PC on AmigaOS. The developer describes the problem and his solution in a blog entry, version 0.0.1 of the driver as well as the corresponding source code are available on Github. (cg)

AmiKit In A Box: Raspberry Pi 5 with Workbench distribution
The well-known Workbench distribution AmiKit is now also available for purchase together with a fully configured Raspberry Pi 5 mini-computer - only the operating system itself still needs to be added as usual.
Read below our translation of the official press release:
AmiKit In A Box
AmiKit is now available as a complete system (Workbench 3.x and a Kickstart ROM are additionally required, for example from Amiga Forever or an AmigaOS 4.1 CD - alternatively AmigaOS XL/3.5/3.9/3.1.4 is also possible).
What is AmiKit?
AmiKit is a Workbench distribution that runs via AmiBerry on a Raspberry Pi 5, and can also run AmigaOS 3.x right at boot time, so that unlike a UAE/AmiBerry system on a PC, AmigaOS 3.x is started directly. In addition to AmigaOS 3.1, AmigaOS 3.2 is also supported (in the latter case, AmigaOS 3.1 must be installed first, after which the update to AmigaOS 3.2 takes place).
What do you get?
A set-up Raspberry Pi 5 in a stylish case (with AmiKit logo), equipped with storage medium, power supply and active cooling, everything already assembled. The storage medium is already flashed so that you can boot directly and install AmigaOS 3.x (e.g. via a USB stick). In addition to the AmigaOS version, you also need a USB mouse and a USB keyboard (keyboards from AmigaOne systems or the Apollo Vampire do also work).
AmiKit is a very professional workbench distribution. During the installation process, this distribution (which, as already mentioned, also requires an AmigaOS 3.x license and a corresponding installation medium) is installed, which contains a comprehensive software package.
"AmiKit In A Box" is the fastest hardware solution for AmigaOS 3.x available. Heretic 2, for example, runs at a resolution of 640x480 pixels at around 50 fps (faster than the PowerPC version on an AmigaOne x1000 with software rendering, and also significantly faster than on all other Raspberry-based 68k solutions). With moderate overclocking, the frame rate for games such as Heretic 2 goes up to 56 fps (for comparison: 63 fps with software renderer and 640x480 pixels on an AmigaOne x5000). The system is also used by Steffen 'MagicSN' Häuser to test his 68k game developments (e.g. Heretic 2, Gorky 17, RetroArch).
Further informationen can be found at the title link as well as on YouTube:
AmiKit In A Box is available for 239,95 EUR (incl. VAT). (snx)

Physical edition of Dr. Dangerous now available
A physical box edition of the action game "Dr. Dangerous - Secrets of the Temple of Xol'Tan" from HooGames2017 (amiga-news.de reported), which was released last year, is now available. The collector's edition comes with numerous new features and improvements.
The revised version of the disk edition offers new difficulty levels (Easy, Medium and Hard), which provide more variety with adapted game mechanics. For the first time, checkpoints can be set at any time in Easy mode, making the game more accessible and easier to play. At the same time, the classic appeal for pros remains fully intact in Hard mode.
Four brand new levels expand the adventure and provide additional fun. The music has also been revised: Barry Leitch (known for Lotus Turbo Challenge, among others) and ZEKAVEO, who has already made a name for himself with the soundtrack to the Android game "The Mystical Quest", are responsible for the new soundscape and give the game a dense, atmospheric soundscape.
In addition, minor visual adjustments have been made to make certain sections even more harmonious, and loading times have also been significantly improved. Finally, the game is now available in German, French and Spanish as well as English.
The boxed version of Dr. Dangerous including download option is now offered for 29,00 Euro. (nba)

Snork 0.1: New Tracer/Logger for AmigaOS 4
Snork, a new tool for monitoring and logging function calls in system libraries, is now available to AmigaOS 4 users. The tool is aimed at developers and experienced users who want to debug applications or analyze the behavior of the system.
Inspired by Snoopy, a popular 68k debugger by Gerson Kurz from 1994, Snork follows a similar, script-based approach. While the original relied on SetFunction and does not work on AmigaOS 4, Snork uses modern mechanisms such as IExec->SetMethod to specifically monitor current library interfaces.
In contrast to existing tools such as glSnoop by Capehill or Snoopy by Colin Wenzel, which focus on specific libraries, Snork is designed to support a wide range of system libraries in the future. The current first version includes support for dos.library and intuition.library; functions with a variable number of arguments are not yet supported, but are planned for future updates, as is support for additional libraries.

Floppy disk images: Disc Image Manager V1.48.1 for Linux, macOS and Windows
Gerald J Holdsworth's Disc Image Manager is an application used to load a retro disc image, read the catalogue and output any required files. In addition, it will also add files to the image, delete, and rename files and directories. On the Amiga side, reading and writing of AmigaDOS disks and hard disks with OFS and FFS formatting are supported (not fully tested with FFS). Support for directory cache and international characters is still missing (amiga-news.de reported). Version 1.48.1 provides the following changes:
New or improved features
- Remembers the last used format when creating a new image.
- Can now specify the disc title when creating a new image.
- When run from the console/command line with no parameters, it will open the console automatically without the -c or --console paramter being specified.
- Added a new console/command line parameter, '-g' or '--gui', to force the application to start in GUI mode.
Bug fixes
- There were possibilities where a blank title, version or copyright string could be applied when updating an ROM FS Header.
- Create a blank !Spark file produced an invalid ZIP file.
- When files were added to a !Spark file, it created a new ZIP file with only this file inside.
- When importing files, sometimes a directory would not be created unless it was ADFS or Amiga.
- Importing files from one system to another sometimes failed as the path structure is different.
- Selecting a file on the directory listing sometimes resulting the details of another file being displayed.
- Creating a new sub-directory, or adding a file, to a sub-directory of the root on an Amiga format image would appear to fail.
- Importing from DFS to a directory capable system, apart from ADFS or Amiga, would not create any subdirectories.
- Adding to a ZIP file would sometimes crash the application.
The author also provides a detailed PDF manual. (dr)

RetroArch: WarpOS and MorphOS versions announced
RetroArch is a modular retro emulator system, which was first featured on amiga-news.de on 28 May 2025. Following the previously announced versions for AmigaOS 3.x (68k) and AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC), developer Steffen Häuser has now also announced ports for WarpOS and MorphOS.
According to Häuser, the WarpOS version is already running at full frame rate on a PCI PowerPC board with a 900 MHz G3, and the MorphOS version has been successfully tested with a Mirari board. Videos of the working beta versions for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and WarpOS can be viewed on the Amigans and MorphOS Discord channels. An X5000 (AmigaOS 4) and Mirari-based systems (MorphOS/WarpOS) were used.
Technically, the MorphOS version, like the OS4 version, is based on RetroArch 1.21, the current version on the PC. The WarpOS and 68k versions are based on RetroArch 1.19.
Most of the important cores have already been compiled for MorphOS and WarpOS. However, some cores – such as MAME2009 – do not work on WarpOS because they are too large for the elf2exe2 tool used. MAME2003Plus, on the other hand, currently runs without any problems.
As with the other versions, access to the beta versions for MorphOS and WarpOS is available in exchange for a donation. The final versions will be released later free of charge via Aminet, OS4Depot and MorphOS Storage. (nba)

Tyschtschenko provides insight into his efforts to save the Amiga from extinction after Commodore's bankruptcy. He recounts desperate attempts to find buyers, the sale of Amiga 1200 from stock in India, legal disputes and secret backroom deals, while at the same time the community kept the spirit of the brand alive.

MorphOS: Web browser Wayfarer 10.0
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek has released version 10.0 of his web browser Wayfarer for MorphOS, which is now based on WebKitGTK 2.48.3, the latest stable version.
As the author writes, "a lot of work in this release went into improving youtube support, with better auto-quality switching, built-in predefined settings and user-agents. The MediaSource player was rewritten to fix the issues that plagued it in Wayfarer 9. Additionally, Wayfarer can now all automatically redirect all YT video links into youtube-nocookie.com that gives you just the video player, with no comments, recommended and most notably no video ads."
In preparation for the upcoming openssl3.library update, Wayfarer 10 has already integrated HTTP/3 support. (dr)

Background: cURL continues to support AmiSSL
Daniel Stenberg, initiator and main developer of cURL, a command line tool for transferring data with URLs, reported in a recent blog post that the cURL project has a long tradition of supporting a number of different third-party libraries: by May 2025, thirteen different TLS libraries were supported.
As a large number of these libraries are supported, it is now possible to raise the bar and gradually increase the requirements for them. The current TLS version 1.3 was already introduced in August 2018. This means that in future, cURL will only support TLS libraries that use the current TLS 1.3 standard (in its modern versions).
BearSSL" and "Secure Transport" have thus been removed from the list of supported backends, but the AmiSSL encryption protocol maintained for Amiga computers (amiga-news.de reported) is still supported.

PyDPainter
|
Image editor: PyDPainter 2.2.0 for Windows, macOS and Linux (update)
The image editor PyDPainter is inspired by DPaint and according to its author Mark Riale an attempt to create a usable pixel art program in Python using PyGame that can handle low resolutions and limited colour palettes and which can be as easy to use as possible (amiga-news.de reported). Version 2.2.0 introduces Brush Trails for brush rotation and scaling (video) and offers an improved macOS support, clipboard paste in text tool and and tutorials. Changes:
- Brush Trails (formerly "Spacing"): The "Spacing" requestor has been renamed to Brush Trails. It is a rethinking of DPaint III Move requestor which allows you rotate and scale brushes along a path along with "ease-in/out" options.
- Brush Rotation and Scaling: You now rotate brushes with the 9 and 0 keys along with the - and = (or +) keys that scale while you are painting. Also, the mouse wheel now scales built-in brushes when used on the toolbar.
- Brush Type/Size Indicator: A new on-screen indicator helps you visualize your current brush type, rotation, and size.
- Native File Dialogs: A new Prefs option allows you to use the OS file dialogs.
- Signed Windows EXE: The Windows executable is now signed so that antivirus programs don't delete it.
- Improved Mac Support: Added a native Mac ARM binary .app for download. The Command key also works like CTRL for menu shortcuts and the menus have the Command symbol in them as well.
- Clipboard Paste Support: You can now paste text directly into the text tool.
- Click Menus: In addition to the click/release menu mode, they also work in a click/click mode to make it easier to use with laptops.
- Increased Undo Levels: Increased undo levels from 20 to 256
- Comprehensive Documentation Updates: New Brush Trails documentation and tutorials. Added Screen Format details as well.
Update: (18.06.2025, 21:32, dr)
Now Linux users can also install PyDPainter using Flatpak. (dr)

WHDLoad frontend: iGame 2.6.0 for AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS
iGame is a MUI-based frontend for launching WHDLoad titles. George 'walkero' Sokianos has again made some changes to the open source program:
New features
- By changing the Genre select box to a PopupString, it is now possible to edit the Genre title and create new ones, which will be added to the Genre lists
- Added Portuguese language
Changes
- The genres in the Information window changed to a PopupString. Now, it takes less space to choose a genre, making it possible even on small resolutions.
- The genres lists have the titles sorted alphabetically
- Removed some not necessary fill ups of genre cycle boxes and loops. This should make iGame start a little bit faster
- Removed some extra change notifications in Genres lists, which should avoid not necessary refreshes of the games/demos lists
- Added a requester to show the errors occure when iGame is started and a library is missing
- Now the iGame icon is set back to start by Workbench
- Revamped the About window, adding a new logo and links
- Changed the main image in the repository
Fixes
- The genres lists were not populated when the right sidebar was disabled

Legal dispute: Hyperion can be held liable for copyright infringements
In April 2023, Hyperion won the first lawsuit with Mike Battilana and his
partners: The judge had essentially ruled that the plaintiffs Amino, Itec and Amiga Inc. could not sue for breach of contract or copyright infringement and that the only party entitled to sue - Amiga Corporation - should not be added as a plaintiff to the current proceedings due to a technicality and that it would have to sue separately. The so-called
"Amiga parties" appealed against all three decisions.
The subsequent legal dispute (courtlistener.com)
is characterised above all by the lack of legal representation for Hyperion:
In order to respond to the Amiga parties' initial statement of early August
2023, Hyperion first had to register new lawyers and ask for an extension of
time. However, the new lawyers asked to be released from their mandate as early
as April 2024.
In October and September, Hyperion is given two four-week deadlines to
provide new lawyers - coupled with the clear warning that the company's
response to the Amiga parties' appeal would otherwise be removed from the
file and the court would have to make its decision without taking Hyperion's
position into account. Subsequently, the removal of Hyperion's "Answering Brief" is
ordered on 7 November.
It was not until seven months later that the Belgian company was able to present new legal counsel. In a motion dated 10 June, the new counsel asked for the removal of Hyperion's statement to be reversed: The "nebulous nature" of his predecessors as Hyperion's lawyers allegedly "dissuaded potential attorneys [..] to appear for Hyperion" and Hyperion had long been unsure whether its foreign lawyer Ben Hermans could take over the representation
before the court in Washington.
Only two days later, not only was this request by Hyperion's new lawyer
rejected, but a unanimous judgement was also issued: the decisions of the
previous instance to deny the Amiga parties the right to sue for breach of
contract and not to admit the Amiga Corporation to the proceedings were
upheld. However, the three judges of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
overrule their colleague on one key point: The Amiga parties can take action
against Hyperion for copyright infringement - copyright law is to be valued
higher here than the "non-aggression" clause from the 2009 settlement agreement, according to the court of appeals.
The "District Court" - i.e. the previous instance - must now once again deal
with the allegation of copyright infringement by Hyperion. Mike Battilana's
"Amiga Corporation" had already opened separate
proceedings against Hyperion in 2019, but these are on hold until the
case discussed here is resolved. We have asked both parties for statements
and will submit them if necessary.
Editor's note: Although an agreement had already been reached between
Hyperion - including current manager Timothy de Groote - and the Amiga parties multiple times, these failed to end the legal dispute because Ben Hermans had withdrawn his agreement at the last moment. As far as we know, there have been no talks between the two parties after the restructuring of Hyperion - according to rumours, the newly appointed director de Groote had refused to
engage in talks, stating that he wanted to wait for the outcome of the appeal hearing first.

Fredrik Wikstrom's SMB2 handler allows remote access to files via the SMB2/3 protocols. New features in version 53.9:
- smb2-handler 53.9 (12.6.2025):
- Added a version compiled for the 68060 CPU
- Added support for the DOMAIN argument.
- smb2-handler 53.8 (15.5.2024):
- IMPORTANT: this revision only supports m86k-amigaos target
- implemented proper disposal of libsmb2 context on connection fault
- implemented automatic reconnection handling
- experimental recovery of handles during file operations interrupted by
connection fault. Please note: the SMB server might still cause lock issue,
reported by "..busy" "..in use" errors on workbench. This can't be solved
within this handler, unless libsmb2 supports durable handles.

RTG driver: Preferences editor "P96Prefs" 47.21 for P96
With "P96Prefs" Thomas Richter has written an improved, alternative preferences editor for the RTG driver P96. AmigaOS 3.2 or newer is required. Since our last report on P96Prefs almost two years ago, numerous updates have been made, including support for environment variables, Matrox and Radeon card drivers, and PCI-based S3ViRGE graphics cards.
The following changes have been made in the last two years and are included in the current version 47.21:
- 47.21: Added support for the Matrox and Radeon card driver. Fixed handling of ALT+Cursor key combination in the mode edit window, adjusting the blank borders around the frame.
- 47.20: Added support for new environment variables appearing in P96 3.6.0.
- 47.19: Added support for the tool types of the Matrox P96 video driver.
- 47.18: The "Interlace" gadget in the mode GUI is now disabled for boards that do not support interlace.
- 47.17: P96Prefs is now aware of S3ViRGE based PCI cards and the latest S3ViRGE driver. If all modes of a resolution are enabled, and the resolution is enabled, then it also enables those modes that could be verified. P96Prefs now also supports Matrox drivers, though possibly not yet all tooltypes the driver offers.
- 47.16: P96Prefs is now aware of the Voodoo card and the latest Voodoo driver on Aminet.
- 47.15.1: The P96Prefs binary is unchanged, but this release contains an updated Italian catalog by Samir and an updated Spanish catalog by Javier. Thanks folks!
- 47.15: This release adds support for the new VA2000 driver and recognizes its tool types and some card pecularities.
- 47.14: P96Prefs re-evaluates now the double scan and interlace flags from the board driver, and thus cooperates nicer with the A2410 driver which turns off the double scan it does not support.
- 47.13: Only very minor changes have been made in this release, this version is now more verbose in case it cannot open its window and prints error messages if opening the window fails. Note that P96Prefs is designed for classical Amiga Systems, it will not work on PPC systems.
- 47.12.1: The binaries remained unchanged, just catalogs had been updated. Thanks again to Samir and Javier!
- 47.12: P96Prefs now requests a reboot in case a board assignment changed implicitly because an installed board was assigned to an already existing preferences setting. P96Prefs now also loads the monitor dimensions from the EDID data and fills them in. Setting the knob position of numerical tool types was not always set to scale correctly.
- 47.11: In case a board is ghosted, P96Prefs now prints a reason under the (assumed) board name, either providing information that the board driver is not loaded, the monitor icon was not found, or the settings are not assigned to a board.
- 47.10: One GUI glitch in the German translation was fixed where one string in the control panel for numerical elements was taking too much space.

Amiga Games That Weren't: Viking by New Deal Productions
A new article on Games That Weren't is dedicated to the game "Viking", an ambitious but never released project by New Deal Productions for Amiga and Atari ST from 1990.
Instead of a linear story, players would take on the role of Viking heroes such as Erik, Leif or Thorwald, setting out to discover the world with their ship and crew and creating their own quests. The plan was to create a huge geographical setting with 13 seas, 72 rivers and over 200 cities – including trade, sea battles, sieges of historic cities and magical tasks. The graphics and scope seemed extremely promising at the time. Why development was discontinued and the game never released remains unknown. (nba)

Worth a read: The creation of Boulder Dash
A new article on Spillhistorie tells the story of how the legendary game Boulder Dash was created. In an interview with Canadian developer Peter Liepa, one of the game's co-developers, we learn about the background to the game – from Liepa's early experiences with computers to his groundbreaking approaches to level design.
The original Boulder Dash was developed in 1984 by Peter Liepa and Chris Gray for 8-bit Ataris, followed by conversions for the Amiga, Commodore 64 and many other platforms. In early 2025, the anniversary edition Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary was released for modern gaming platforms.
The article shows that the combination of a clever puzzle idea, fast-paced gameplay and user-friendly design contributed significantly to its worldwide success. (nba)

Amiga emulator for the Web: vAmigaWeb 4.2.1
vAmigaWeb is an Amiga emulator for web browsers or as a progressive web app. The new version is now based on the core of vAmiga 4.2. In addition, file exchange between Amiga and host computer is now only possible via ZIP archive. In principle, you no longer need HDF files, as file exchange via ZIP archive is much easier and you don't need any extra tools to read HDF files. (dr)

Hardware analysis: boards.library 3.122
The boards.library decodes manufacturer IDs and product IDs of Amiga computers and shows what is installed in the Amiga and by whom. It is used, for example, by tools such as WhichAmiga and ReportPlus or AmigaOS' own ShowConfig (V46+).
Starting with version 3.120 the boards.library now checks the identify.library V45.0 and higher (amiga-news.de reported) for unknown boards and vice versa. Thus both libraries should be installed. (dr) (Translation: dr)
