RetroArch: WarpOS and MorphOS versions announced
RetroArch is a modular retro emulator system, which was first featured on amiga-news.de on 28 May 2025. Following the previously announced versions for AmigaOS 3.x (68k) and AmigaOS 4 (PowerPC), developer Steffen Häuser has now also announced ports for WarpOS and MorphOS.

According to Häuser, the WarpOS version is already running at full frame rate on a PCI PowerPC board with a 900 MHz G3, and the MorphOS version has been successfully tested with a Mirari board. Videos of the working beta versions for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and WarpOS can be viewed on the Amigans and MorphOS Discord channels. An X5000 (AmigaOS 4) and Mirari-based systems (MorphOS/WarpOS) were used.

Technically, the MorphOS version, like the OS4 version, is based on RetroArch 1.21, the current version on the PC. The WarpOS and 68k versions are based on RetroArch 1.19.

Most of the important cores have already been compiled for MorphOS and WarpOS. However, some cores – such as MAME2009 – do not work on WarpOS because they are too large for the elf2exe2 tool used. MAME2003Plus, on the other hand, currently runs without any problems.

As with the other versions, access to the beta versions for MorphOS and WarpOS is available in exchange for a donation. The final versions will be released later free of charge via Aminet, OS4Depot and MorphOS Storage. (nba)
