Event: Codex Alpe Adria update (Update)
Press release Codex Alpe Adria 2007, the friendly alternative computing and digital culture event organized by Cloanto, will take place this week-end in Udine, Italy.
Unlike previous years, the main event on Saturday is to take place on a large tour coach, which will stop at various places of historical interest, while seminars take place on board the bus.
The Codex Alpe Adria attendees will have a chance to explore
this beautiful region between Venice and the Alps, crossing Roman,
Byzantine and Venetian history with icebreakers and tales from Silicon
Valley, and experiencing first hand computing art, history and future.
Along the way, local delicacies and wines will be served, and new
friends will be made.
The event site at http://0xAA.org has been updated with the latest
schedule and conference information, including two new speakers:
Sergio Ruocco, organizer of the IPISA Amiga and alternative computing
conferences in the 1990s, and Takis Tsiricos, author of "One Flew
Over the Pacman's Nest" (a legal analysis of emulation). Sunday morning
we plan to meet again in Tarvisio, in the Alps region north of Udine,
for a walk near the Fusine lakes.
Joining the event is still possible, but online registration before
Friday evening is appreciated in order to confirm the exact number
of attendees. The event hotline is +39-334-731-7663. Great last-minute
light connections from Germany, the UK and most other European countries
are still available at bargain prices to the three airports around
Udine (Trieste = TRS, Venice = VCE, Treviso = TSF).
Update: (22:05, 07.07.07, snx)
Meanwhile, the schedule has been published. Please note that the Demo Competition has been adjourned to Pianeta Amiga (September 22/23). (snx)

MorphOS: Picture Viewer ShowGirls 0.95
ShowGirls is a picture viewer from Michal 'kiero' Wozniak which offers some image editing functions and combines features of "MiniShowPicture", "ShowPPC" and similar programs (Screenshots).
New features of version 0.95:
- Merge factor for Noise Reduction. Allows to preserve more detail
- Curves tool. Allows for selective adjustment of image brightness, saturation and R/G/B intensity
- Displaying of flashlight mode in exif overlay
- Much faster thumbnails generation for JPEG files without embedded exif thumbnail
- Minor speed/size optimizations and tweaks in numerous places
- Threshold filter allowing to convert image into black&white one
- File extension adjustment (changing to .jpg) in batch converter
- Initial version of bordering tool
Bugs squashed in this version:
- History for path and copy/move operations was not working properly
- Loading image without full path was not working properly
- Random crash caused by wrong object tree setup
- Don't crash on thumbnails with with equals to 1 (with 'Save memory' enabled)
- Zoom in factor (when using wheel/keyboard) wasn't equal to zoom out
- Few memory leaks
- Focusing on thumbnails in very tall views
- Correct image dimensions in thumbnail help bubble
- Smarter thumbnails scanning (delayed mode only). Thumbnails of visible pictures are generated on demand
- Smarter minimum zommin factor. Now depends on image dimensions and display area
- And probably more the author forgot about

AmigaSYS: Announcement of Version 3 Plus / New Website
Kris writes: AmigaSYS is a preinstalled workbench for the Amiga emulator WinUAE with a lot of features and extensions. After the successful installation AmigaSYS offers a workbench providing everything for an initial start - similar to the projects like AIAB (Amiga In A Box) or AmiKit.
The new internet site is available in three languages (Hungarian, English and German), but is currently under work.
The new version of the package "AmigaSYS 3 Plus" will probably be finished within the next two or three weeks and provided for free download. Here are some features of the new and improved version:
- Completely new installer script for the versions 3.0, 3.1, 3.9, AF as well as XL which allows a two or three times faster installation
- Depending on the chosen language not only the os, but possibly all applications are started with the relevant language
- The new version excels with a better German and English translation
- New AmigaSYS-add-on packages have been prepared
- The system is optimized and most of the programs have been replaced with newer versions and heavily tested
- The whole package was shrinked about several MB through optimization measures and therefore meets better the demands of modem users.
The project is guided by the German Amiga Community and the new version will be also available at their website . (snx) (Translation: tz)

Filesharing: AmiGift 2.0 Prerelease
Amigift is a P2P-Filesharingsystem which based on the from the Unix-world ported giFT-Daemon (Gnutella, FastTrack, OpenFT) and will be used over a MUI-based graphical user interface named "GiftMUI" (Screenshot).
This beta-version is in acc. to the Author more stabil then the earlyer version, but there is now a problem by connecting with FastTrack-networks , which generates a high performance load on the CPU. But this pre-realease will by noted as user-friendly.
Who will test AmiGift 2.0, will by highly recommended to read the Changelog, the AmiGift-Readme and the FAQ.
AmiGift 2.0 works under AmigaOS 3 and MorphOS. AmigaOS 4-user are invoked, to report there experience with AmiGift 2.0, to make sure that it works also in Amiga OS 4. (cg) (Translation: aj)

AmigaOS 4: First screenshots of a Blender port
Apparently, Thomas Frieden is working on a port of the 3D package Blender to AmigaOS 4, as proved by two of the screenshots published on amigans.net (1, 2).
Hans-Jörg "Rogue" Frieden comments that although the port is already very stable and complete except for the GameBlender module, some things simply do not work as they should yet. Therefore, some time will go by until the release. (cg) (Translation: cad)
