ACube Systems: Software package for programming the Sam440ep-FPGA
Press release: Bassano del Grappa (Italy) - 24 March 2012
ACube Systems is happy to release a package to explore and enhance the capabilities of the LatticeXP FPGA available on the Sam440ep mini-itx and flex-atx boards.
With the manual, examples and tools of the package it's possible to implement new functionalities into the FPGA, to further strengthen your AmigaOS experience on your Sam440ep board.
The package contains:
- VHDL source code (released under GPL) of the firmware currently used on Sam440ep boards
- the original bitstream installed at the factory (to restore the original firmware)
- a porting of the VME12 utility which can reprogram, via the JTAG interface, the FPGA on the fly under AmigaOS 4.1 (*)
(*) a simple hardware modification and a cable are required

Elbox: "New edition" of FastATA is a bogus claim
Four weeks ago Elbox promoted an alleged new edition of its IDE-controller: With the "FastATA MK-IV CF/SATA" users now could connect modern mass storage like SSD or SATA-harddrives to an Amiga.
In the English product description in the Elbox-shop it is not particularly mentioned that it is a new revision of the hardware or that the CompactFlash and SATA-ports are on the board but the written words legen are rather clear: "The FastATA 4000 MK-IV CF/SATA is designed to simultaneously use up to four devices: one Compact Flash card, one SATA drive and two to four PATA devices".
As things turned out the promoted product is the "old" controller "FastATA MK-IV" which has been unchanged available for years. It is now delivered with two standard adapters for connecting CompactFlash or SATA devices to an IDE-controller. Both adapters have to be connected with standard PATA-cables to the FastATA and separately supplied with power:
Although the PATA-SATA-adapter is a standard device which Elbox has bought from a external distributor, for unknown reasons the labeling of chip was removed in order to um complicate its identifying.

Jump and Run: Sqrxz 3 (v 1.00) for AmigaOS 4, AROS and MorphOS
Sqrxz is a classic Jump'n Run with a fast gameplay (Youtube video). Changes:

AmigaOS 4: Article about AmigaOS4 programming / Book planned
After the release of his article about the Debugger GDB, Roman 'kas1e' Kargin is going to publish the new article "The Hacking Way: Part 1. First Steps". Knowledge in C and Assembler are required.
Kargin would like to publish other articles and then collect them in a book which is about AmigaOS4 internals, kernel internals, disassembling and debugging techniqs, ppc-assembler, utilities and tools which help when you debug programms.
If there is sufficient interest in such a book, the author is trying to find out by making a plea for donations, because he needs to spend money for proof-readers and painters. If more than 200 US-Dollar should be donated, a "porper" bounty project with all details information for the whole book would be started.

Database: MUIbase 2.11
Steffen Gutmann has published an update of his database MUIbase. Changes in version 2.11:
- Export of select-from-where requests as ASCII
- Export of select-from-where requests as PDF (Mac OS X, Linux and MorphOS) or print (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux)
- Several bug fixes
The MUIbase distribution includes ports for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS. An AROS port will follow soon.

Commodore USA announced "Commodore Amiga Mini" (update)
In a press release licensee Commodore USA has announced the "Commodore Amiga Mini".
The computer will be delivered in a silver or black Mini-ITX case made from Aluminium - it is a HTPC-ITX2 made by Wesena. The AMIGA mini's appearance is enhanced with the inclusion of the classic embedded AMIGA logo engraved in the front. The pictures presented on the website still are Photoshop manipulations and no real ones.
Detailed specifications of the computer:
- Case: Mini-ITX
- Processor: Intel i7-2700k 3.5 Ghz Quad-Core (3.9Ghz Turboboost)
- Chipset: Intel Z68 Express
- Memory: 16Gb RAM DDR3 1333MHz
- Harddrive: 1 TB SATA or (optional) 300 GB SSD
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 430 GPU with 1GB DDR3
- 10/100/1000 Ethernet und 802.11n (300 Mb/s) WiFi

The delivery time will be four up to six weeks. The price for a complete system is supposed to be 2500 USD. The Commodore VIC Mini which also is a complete system with less power can be bought for 1000 USD.

Commodore USA chief Barry Altman has announced that "due to an overwhelming outpouring of customer comments, along with those posted on the major tech blogs, the company has listened to the thousands of requests for both lower prices and more choices, and responded today with prices and options that most respondents indicated was in line with other current offerings." They lowered the price by 500 Dollar.
The cheapest configuration now is an i3-2130 (3.4 Ghz) with 4 GB RAM for 1500 USD.

XML-Parser-Plugin for Hollywood
Press release: A new plugin for Hollywood has been released today: The XML Parser plugin allows Hollywood scripts to parse XML files easily and efficiently. This finally allows Hollywood users to make use of this extremely flexible universal markup language that can be used for so many purposes. The plugin needs to be installed into LIBS:Hollywood but the included installer will take care of that automatically. Once the plugin has been installed successfully, a new user library should show up in the plugin.api tab in the Hollywood GUI. This plugin is based on libexpat and luaexpat.
You can download the plugin from the official Hollywood portal under the title link. Thanks to Hollywood 5.0's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3 (Classic), AmigaOS3 (FPU), AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (Intel), Linux (PowerPC), Linux (Intel), Mac OS (PowerPC), Mac OS (Intel) and Windows are provided.

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS: Sirena AHIW 1.01
Sirena AHIW published by Morgue Soft is another programm wriiten with Hollywood which can handle and edit your pictures and is available for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and Windows XP.
Version 1.01 fixes the rotating option. The archive now also includes a PDF tutorial and the sound of the "About"-window was turned off.

Multifunctional tool: Download-Manager Jack soon with Paypal button
According to the author of the multifunctional tool Jack, the included download manager will be completed with a new feature in the next version. The users will have the possibility to make a donation for any programm. On amigaworld.net three screenshots have been published which demonstrate the process.
