Alpha-GUI for Autotrace 0.31.1
Carsten Siegner writes: I've prepared an alpha version of my GUI (graphic user inteface) "Vectormaker." This GUI works with the program Autotrace, which was
released today (as reported). Autotrace is a vectorizing program with which one
can trace an almost inexhaustible quantity on graphic formats, or convert existing vector formats into others.
The list of entry formats numbers more than 50! I decided to make a GUI because there are more than a few shell options, and the program
is faster than Xtrace according to early tests.
This GUI acommodates first only the most important input possibilities, such as saving and loading file requestors and the possibility to
specify the input output file types. Because there are so many options, more and more will be added. Whoever would like to test this GUI, just send me an
e-Mail.

The Unmasking of the AmiDock Easter Eggs in OS 3.9... :-)
Yes, maybe you weren't expecting it, but AmiDock contains a little surprise as well... :) For

Testing Report: Radio Keyboard and Mouse on Amiga
When I attended the club meeting of AmCluSt early
this month, I was impressed with the radio keyboard and mouse from Michael Göken. These were made possible through two components:
The MMKeyboard-Adapter from Guido Mersmann and the PS/2 adapter
building instructions (hard/hack/ps2m.lha) from Denis Sotchenko.
Following these instructions Guido built me a PS/2 adapter in more than an hour of detailed work, so thanks again, sincerely! Whoever is
interested in an MMKeyboard-Adapter from Guido Mersmann should send an email to him.
The opportunity to try out Tevion's radio-controlled keyboard and mouse came about because Aldi was offering it inexpensively. Both
adapters worked perfectly on my Amiga 4000 T. It's very pleasant to have a table top free of coiled cables.
In any case the crux of the matter is the program MMKeyboard.lha
by Guido Mersmann. It allows every key of the multimedia keyboard to be individually configured. Here is the official short description of the
program:
MMKeyboard allows the use of Windows keyboards on Amiga. Beyond that, it makes it possible to start programs with the multimedia keys
and much more. There are none of the driver problems as are found on the PC! A little Commodity activates all the "non-standard" keys on
every keyboard! Even future keys will work! MMKeyboard also offers a real hardware password login with an optional, selectable Amiga skin,
full reset handler compatibility, and many other configuration options.
All in all I find that these are very good and useful creations which allow me to write the news more easily :).

Developer Tool: CVS Version 1.11.2 AmigaOS/MorphOS Port Bugfix Update (2)
Today Jens Langner prepared an important bugfix of the AmigaOS and MorphOS ports of CVS (Concurrent Versions System), the program he
jointly developed with Olaf Barthel. This may be downloaded by clicking on the title link.
In this version (of 21st November, 2002) the main thing is the bugfix, that corrected one big mistake in the last version. It had to do with
problems with "committen" of new files, but this should be taken care of now.
As always the update may be found at http://amcvs.light-speed.de and also downloaded
from Aminet in the next few days.
22nd November, 2002 addition:
Jens Langner made a comment:
I undertook another bugfix today, and uploaded the current version to the website. It was a bug in the temporary data routines. Everything
should now be stable, so far.

Amiforce: Forum update / Abakus-Design: note
Forum update
Today the Amiforce forum was brought to a new version. The update was done within a few minutes and brought some positive side effects with it.
The data base seemed to be fixed through the update and even the upload of avatars works without problems again. Furthermore there were some bugfixes with the update, an example given might be the possibility of a dial in without using cookies now.
The forum can be used now with all features again. Who might detect a bug is pleased to report it.
Abakus-Design
Obviously some people seem to have a problem with offering us their name and email before the download of AMHuhn. We emphasize again that we will not give these data to anyone else but are collected by us internaly only. Nobody will receive adverts or anything else.
Unfortunately there were some really bad form mails received.
To remember: AMHuhn is without any cost and we gain no profit with it. We are not sponsored by any advertising agency and spread no spam. AMHuhn and everything belonging with it took all our spare time and the webmaster recently had to pay real money, because the traffic limit was overridden.
Thank all of you, who are caring.

Amiga Inc.

Amiga Inc.: Letting the World Know (Executive Update)
November 19, 2002 - With the AmigaOne now shipping and AmigaOS4.0 in
its final stages of development and testing, the time has come to begin
letting the rest of the world know the good news, that the Amiga is alive,
well and ready to let the World have fun with computing again.
We all know that the current hard core of Amiga users is not enough to build
a sustainable and thriving community. We have to appeal to those who, for whatever
reason left the Amiga months and years ago but who still retain a fondness for
their old platform. Whether disillusioned with their existing offering, looking
for a new way or simply wanting to return, the marketing for the reborn Amiga
must concentrate itself on these people, the five million or so who once owned
an Amiga and who could do so once more.
The last six months has seen us experimenting with presence at various multi-format
shows and nurturing relationships with TV, web and paper publications
in order to test the waters and to set out our stall for the big push
forwards. Even in this informal process, the response has been fantastic,
whether in the US, the UK, Europe or Australia. People remember the Amiga
and want it back.
We have taken all this research and, in conjunction with Amiga developers,
retailers, user groups, publications, Amiga Inc, Eyetech and Hyperion
have decided that we will concentrate on four official large scale multi-format
shows around the globe, in order to maximize our presence, message and
exposure. This will compromise a show roughly every quarter, one for Europe,
one for the US and Canada, one for the UK and one for the Antipodes (Australia,
New Zealand and Asia).
The first of these shows will be the official launch of the AmigaOne and AmigaOS4.0,
to occur at the CeBit show in Germany in March (and before anyone asks,
this does not mean this is the release date for AmigaOS4.0, it means that
CeBit will be the public launch of it). With the huge exposure and attendance
that CeBit brings in, and being in Germany, one of the spiritual homes
of the Amiga, we think this an appropriate and exciting venue.
In addition we will support several other important national shows on a cooperative
basis with the dealers, user groups and organizations in those countries.
Commitments have already been given to attend the SINTEP show in Toulouse,
France in April 2003, and at least one of the Micromart shows in Birmingham,
UK.
We will also support local dealers and organizers of the main Amiga user
group shows worldwide (subject to fitting in with the schedule of the
larger shows above) such as the Alt-WoA and WoA-SE shows in the UK, as
well as the main shows in France, Germany, the USA and Canada. If you
currently - or would like to - organize such a show during 2003 and would
like Amiga Inc, and/or Hyperion and/or Eyetech to attend please contact
us as soon as early as possible during the planning stage. Given the limited
resources we all have, and the cost and complexity of planning for the
quarterly shows, we cannot guarantee attendance but we will do our best
to support the community wherever it gets together to enjoy the Amiga
platform.
So much for 2003 - what about the remainder of 2002, and in particular the
Aachen show? We have all, both as individual companies and together, thought
long and hard about this show. It has been decided that the timing could not
be worse from our respective points of view.
Eyetech is committed to delivering the Earlybird systems for Christmas that
week and Amiga Inc is fully occupied fulfilling an AmigaAnywhere contract, and
product launch. Whilst visiting with all of you is important, we believe that
it is more important to ship products right now, and we simply can not work
the show into our schedules.
We wanted to share this with you because many in the community have asked the
same questions that we have asked ourselves. How will the community grow and
thrive? It can only do so through increased sales, and that means increased
awareness. As we move from survival mode to growth mode, the small, local shows,
however much fun cannot provide this level of exposure and awareness. By marching
proudly and strongly into the mainstream shows, and taking the community with
us, we are announcing that we are back, once and for all.
Have no doubt that after 8 years of darkness, 2003 will be the year that the
Amiga once again makes the World remember that there is a better way.
Thank you, as ever, for your continued support and commitment.
Bill McEwen and the team at Amiga
Ben Hermans, Hyperion
Alan Redhouse, Eyetech (ps)

E3B: SUBWAY USB controller for Amiga (clockport version) available
E3B is pleased to announce the availability of the USB controller SUBWAY, which has been
presented the public at the Amiga trade show in Cologne 2001.
Unfortunately we were very busy since this trade show with the Zorro USB card HIGHWAY and
its networking module NORWAY, but nevertheless we have not forgotten the "small" module SUBWAY.
Despite the not very good situation on the Amiga Classic market we haven't stopped further
development.
We at E3B believe that Amiga Classic should not drop of the edge of technology, even with the
long forecast new hardware platforms rising finally at the horizon.
As many Zorro card owners asked for compatibility of SUBWAY with common clockport featured
card like the Xsurf, isdn surfer or the Buddha Flash, we consequently improvemented the
SUBWAY design to fulfill these wishes. Due to the different timings and signals on these
non-Commodore clockports only one version of the SUBWAY exists now, which works with these
faster operated clock ports. We would like to thank Jens Schönfeld for supplying us with test cards.
Therefore SUBWAY can also be used in already fully equipped Zorro systems, which have no
Zorro slot free anymore for a HIGHWAY. Also Amiga 1200 users which use PCI as bus solution,
but having no PCI slot free any more or want to spare it for high volume data applications
can use the SUBWAY as USB solution out of the box.
By introducing the world's smallest USB controller SUBWAY E3B is able to offer a complete range
of solutions for USB and ethernet. Together with the USB stack Poseidon (by Chris Hodges) and
its GUI Trident (which both have been proven its feasability in every day work) it is possible
to use up to four modern USB devices from the PC market without any further additional hardware
(like hubs) directly on the Amiga 1200.
Distribution of SUBWAY will be handled by our distributor
KDH Datentechnik.
We at E3B would like to thank all people who have helped us to develop and improve our USB
products according to your wishes. Don't stop asking us.
Anyhow, we want to apologize for the long delay which has been made by us with the introduction
of the SUBWAY.
E3B will be present on the Aachen Amiga trade show at KDH Datentechnik.
You're invited to visit us there and test our USB controllers HIGHWAY / SUBWAY live.
We also are looking forward to meet you there for discussion.
If you are interested in an USB controller for Amiga Classic, feel free to test your
USB devices on compliance there!

browse through the picture's directory by simply pressing cursor up and
down. AmigaSeeDC is also able to zoom in and out. It took me only 1 hour
to program AmigaSeeDC with Hollywood. And of course this cool example
program is included on the Hollywood CD-ROM. If you've always wanted a
viewer program for your Amiga that is standard on every PC, order Hollywood

times faster on an 180 MHz PowerPC, more than 40 times faster on Amithlon
running on a 850 MHz Athlon.
fxPAINT is an award-winning graphics program for AmigaOS, MorphOS, Amithlon,
PowerUP and WarpUP covering many different fields of graphical applications.
Besides others, more than 90 high quality effects for image processing,
natural painting tools, image-managment, batchprocessing- and numerous
Internet tools are available to you. More information on fxPAINT can be
found on the fxPAINT-homepage.

AmigaZone: StAHG update available
StAHG (the Standard Amiga Help Guide) has received an update (version
1.1). This update is free, and replaces the previous version.
Bugfix: This version corrects an error in which some documents could
be missed during the scanning process.
StAHG is a free utility from AmigaZone as a gift to the Amiga
Community. It scans the HELP assign for various forms of
documentation and builds a single "WorkBench.guide" with links to each
document. The Workbench.guide is accessable by pressing the "Help"
key under AmigaOS 3.5 or higher.
We hope you enjoy StAHG,

Catweasel Software Updates, X-Surf News
The Windows-drivers for the Catweasel ISA have been extended by some
features. Mainly support for the new Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper has
been added. Also in the archive: a driver for Windows 2000 and Windows
XP that makes use of a keyboard that's connected to the Catweasel MK3
PCI/Flipper.
Download: cw_win_pci.zip (108 KB)
The Amiga-version of the driver has also been adapted to the new
controller, the new multidisk.device V3.62 now supports the Catweasel
MK3 in a Zorro slot, or on any clockport of an Amiga. This device is
prepared to support the Catweasel MK3 in a PCI slot of an emulated
Amiga (for example Amithlon or Amiga Forever).
Download: mdisk362.zip (22 KB)
Many people have asked for a picture of the new controller, because
it's hard to imagine how the same board can fit in the Zorro slot and
in a PCI slot. Here's a picture of the controller, taken out of the
running production. It shows the bare board without the metal bracket
and the second joystick connector.
cwmk3.jpg (113 KB)
Good news for all Amiga users who want to bring their computer to a
network: The most successful networking card in the Amiga market has
been updated, and the price will be lower. The reason for the continuous
success of the board might be it's software support: The X-Surf 2 will
remain the only networking card on the market that comes with PPPoE
drivers - these are necessary for most DSL modems. As opposed to the
older model, the new X-Surf 2 does not have a BNC connection any more,
all other technical details remain the same. If you need this connector
you should be quick, because the last boards have already been shipped
to our resellers a few weeks ago.

Back to the Roots: New games, a.o.t. Karate Kid 2 and scans
With permission of the copyright owners, Back to the Roots puts up original
Amiga games for download and furthermore offers freeware games, demos, musical
pieces, scans of game packages etc. In the current newsletter, Back to the
Roots are reporting about new items on the site. In particular, sports games have been added:
"Now that the summer here is over, we have prepared a couple of sports events
to test your physical shape. Get down to it:
Arms and legs are being exercised with 'Shadow Fighter' and 'Karate Kid 2'.
Thanks to 'Empire Soccer', football skills can be proven. If you want to show
us how skilful you can handle a motorbike, 'Super Hang On' is just the thing.
Btw, thanks to permission of Tynesoft, you can start in a whole lot of
different disciplines with 'Summer Olympiad' and 'Buffalo Bill's Rodeo Games'.
And to avoid the mind rusting in with all those muscle games, we have provided
you with 'K240', 'Millenium 2.2' and lots of other games.
Something really extraordinary awaits you with 'Exile'. Here you take on the
identity of a fully trained astronaut. And for phasing out after all this sport
the cute 'Tearaway Thomas' is presenting himself, with whom you will be faster
on the way than with Sonic.
This update also contains scans of mostly rare game packaging (e.g. Quik and
Silva, or XR35), as well as two articles about the Amiga demo groups Ephidrena
and Loonies!
Games, demos, music and more. What else do you want? Just have a look into
'Back to the Roots'."

Text viewer: EvenMore V0.60
On 15th November 2002, version 0.60 of the text viewer 'EvenMore' has been
released. In this version the plugin system for the EvenMore preferences
has been updated. Chris Perver writes:
"The new plugin system will allow users to create user settings in the
preference window for their own plugins. EvenMore automatically loads and
saves the plugin settings whenever the main settings are loaded or
saved. This will allow more complicated plugins to be created.
An example of this plugin has been created for the Generic2Text plugin, to
allow you to open a binary file in readable or hexadecimal view.
The other plugins have had to be updated to support a change in the plugin
system and in the EvenMore executable."
Various plugins are available for download on the plugin subpage of the
EvenMore home page.

Via GED is the programming environment integrated within minutes into the editor using a comfortable setup program.
Because of the huge size of gcc is this update only deliverable as a replacement CD: since the last version have 67 MB just in form of data been added. The costs are 10.- Euro.

AmigaMARK LPA Website
|
Benchmark-Tool: AmigaMARK LPA almost finished
The Austrian Rupert Hausberger has worked for some months on a new Freeware benchmark-tool called
AmigaMARK LPA. The author has now announced that the program is ready to 98%. Currently the program is in
beta test. The first release will be only published in some time because the documentation still
has to be written.
AmigaMARK LPA (Lowlevel Preformance Analyse) is an application which determines the perfomance of the
computer on which it runs. The performance is measured in three sections:
Processor, memory and harddrive. Then a detailed report will be put out in HTML or TXT. There is the
possibility to compare the results with the help of a graphic display with other computers.
There will be defenitely versions for 68K and MorphOS. If there will be also a version for AmigaOS4
is uncertain and depends on it if the author will get developer information.
