Flash: GUI for SWF encoder
Today I have finally finished my GUI for the SWF encoder of the "SWF-Tools". With this encoder you can convert JPEG, PNG or WAV files into Shockwave-Flash files. These are the famous animations on some homepages. This encoder I have already tested and it runs very great on my Amithlon computer and my Amiga 68040. To make people not questioning my programming capabilities I have uploaded a small SWF file to my homepage that I have encoded today with my Amiga. It runs demonstrably with Voyager and with the stand-alone "SWF-Player" from Aminet.

The SWF tools kindly had been ported to the Amiga by Rainer Böhme and Matthias Kramm as there have been ports for Linux, Windows, MacIntosh and Sun for already quite some time. This program "Swf-Encoder" by me handles right now the single frame and the animation encoding. But I have to say that the handling of the animations is not very easy. Furthermore the encoder offers the possibility to convert MPEG compressed files with WAV header into SWF files.

Here a test file of the Amiga "Swf-Encoder": http://home.t-online.de/home/Carsten Siegner2/Testanimation.swf
The LZX package contains the according images that I have used. So nobody can doubt this :)) (cd) (Translation: wk)

RC5-64 HAS BEEN SOLVED!
On 14-Jul-2002, a relatively characterless PIII-450 in Tokyo returned the winning key to the distributed.net keyservers. The key 0x63DE7DC154F4D03 produces the plaintext output:

The unknown message is: some things are better left unread

Unfortunately, due to breakage in scripts (dbaker's fault, naturally) on the keymaster, this successful submission was not automatically detected. It sat undiscovered until 12-Aug-2002. The key was immediately submitted to RSA Labs and was verified as the winning key.

Statement from H&P about Amithlon
»The current differences between every party involved with the Amithlon project are by way not that easy as they are described in the internet discussions - often from one perspective only. Our contract regarding the distribution rights for Amithlon is still valid. We have been reluctant with public statements, cause we try to resolve the differencs between the parties privately. We want to resolve the problem and would like to see the contract being fulfilled by all parties. The internet audience can not help with these negotiations and will often be used, to spread the own oppinions as the only ones that are true. Also the one, who cries the loudest, just expresses the own perspective. To solve the conflict round on Amithlon it is important to mediate between the different perspectives in private negotiations.« (ps)

Andreas Kleinert removes PPC/WOS datatypes from the Aminet (Update)
Andreas Kleinert has, like can be seen from the last extract of the recent file, removed his PPC/WOS datatypes from the Aminet by placing empty archives there.

The appended readme says the following:
PPC/WOS support for this datatypes has been dropped as with V45.1.

Update 26.09.2002:
We asked Andreas Kleinert via e-mail the following question: Might you give amiga-news.de a brief statement about the deletion of the PPC/WOS datatypes at the Aminet?

Andreas Kleinert:
"I just wanted to "clean up" a little bit ;-)

The support for WOS was even stopped earlier, WOS user had to use the ppclib-emu already.

The PPC support was abandoned with V45.1, regarding to the 68k only versions 45.x it would be irritating if the 44.x PPC modules were still left at he Aminet.

Those who would like to use the 44.x 68k datatypes with the 44.x PPC plugins should use the last recent public version from an Aminet CD. The (now) free keyfile is still available from the Aminet."

Within a comment someone wrote: If you don't like to continue to support the PPC versions of your datatypes it is your choice, but if you take the possibility for registered users to download the latest version of theses datatypes this is a shame in my view.

Andreas Kleinert:
This hasn't been my intention, I just wanted to avaoid trouble if people try to use the 44.x PPC plugins in addition to version 45.x . The PPC modules are still to get from the Aminet CDs. But one thing I have to state here: My personal opinion is that the Aminet should not have to be seen as a backup medium for everybody.

DIVX encoder with gui for Amiga
Carsten Siegner writes:
I just finished a provisory gui for universal format change tool ffmpeg. I programed this as a "DIVX encoder".

Extraordinary: With ffmpeg you gain the option to encode sfw files. These are the well known "flash animations" at some homepages. Unfortunately it wasn't possible for me to create a well operating file yet. I coded those sfw files with the "MJPEG" codec. Is there someone who can tell me which codec might be the right one? The ffmpeg encoder offers many different codecs for video and audio.

P.S.: The program is not ready for download yet! (ps) (Translation: ub)

Warp3D V5 becomes NOVA
Hans-Jörg Frieden from Hyperion Entertainment states on the AmigaOS 4 mailing list: "Warp3D will be named 'NOVA' on OS 4 (Ami3D on AmigaDE). The initial release will still be Warp3D V4.x. The original plan called for Warp3D V5 to be delivered with OS 4, but that was at a time where we where to do Warp3D and OS 4 would come from someone else :-) In the final NOVA release, we'll include developer guides, tutorials and example source code, and hopefully one or two bigger show-off demos with source code." Event: AmigaMeeting Nord in Bad Bramstedt 18th-20th Oct 2002
Thorsten Mampel writes:
The Amiga-Meeting Nord will this year again take place in Bad Bramstedt from 18th-20th October 2002.

Details about the event can be gathered from our home page where you can also register.

Contrary to the previous years we are planning to build up an RJ-45 network. If you are coming with your computer, please take along a cable of min. 5m length (NO crossover cable), longer cables are welcome. Two 8 port hubs and a 16 port hub will be supplied. If you want to bring another hub you are welcome to do so to keep cable lengths short.

A BNC connection can be provided for those without an RJ-45 equipped NIC (e.g. Hydra).

The popular hard and software exchange will be reworked completely and can be utilised from every computer in our LAN. There will be a computer for daily visitors without a computer which can be used to surf for free and take part in the exchange.

We will announce details about attending companies/guests and further planned activities shortly.

Best regards

SlimJim has published a report about the AONE Gothenburg 2002 event in Gothenburg, Sweden on amiga.org. This one contains further information as compared to Johan Rasten's report.

Hyperion have completed PPCBoot. Thus the rest of the developer boards (several hundred) can be shipped.

PPCBoot has been created by order from outside of the Amiga market and means additional earnings for Hyperion.

Stefan Burström held an (improvised) speech about IBrowse V2.3. This will mainly be a bug fix. New features such as CSS will only be included from IBrowse V3.0 - which will be PPC native.

According to Stefan Burström, MUI will be part of AmigaOS 4 and in the default settings will be a Reaction lookalike. (sd)

Flash: Swfplayer V1.2b
Alexandre Balaban has published version 1.2b of his standalone Shockwave player 'Swfplayer' on Aminet. The player is based on Olivier Debon's libflash for Linux.

This update is a quick rebuild of Paul Hill's version of the player in order to make use of the newest libflash version.

This version should have solved the problems with other CPUs than 68040 and the crash upon quitting the player. Apart from that, this version is in no way to be considered a bug fix, the emphasis lies solely in the use of the newest libflash version.

The player works on CPUs from 68040 and from AGA (i.e. also on GFX cards).

Announcement: new online magazine - GetBoinged
There had been a change at the head of the AMIGA online magazine "NoCover". With a new chief editor and new ideas we want to look into a better future. For this several preparations had taken place so that our plan can be put into effect.

The first step was the name change from "NoCover" into "GetBoinged". The second step will follow in the next few days when our official homepage will go online under "www.getboinged.de". All further details can be read then there.

With the "GetBoinged" magazine we want to go another way than other AMIGA online magazines, here at "GetBoinged" you'll only read facts and nothing else that may possibly be released someday in the future. Furthermore we refer to already existing and usable hardware. There will definitely be no reports about the alternative operating system MorphOS.

Because only a small number of users is participating we'll only come up with specially chosen rubrics to offer a quite filled magazine despite this.

Point: new users
To secure our surviving you will be able to receive the "GetBoinged" magazine not only via the Aminet or various AMIGA CD-ROMs. Owners and buyers of Windows systems will be pleased as our magazine will be placed on several CD-ROMs of "Windows" magazines, too. The CD-ROM subscription of the "GetBoinged" respectively the once "NoCover" will be discontinued because of this step.

With kind regards,

Emulator: New WinUAE clipboard utility
There's now an improved clipboard utility (download updated clipboard utility for 0.8.22R1) for WinUAE to exchange data between Windows and AmigaOS. It works now with YAM, Editpad and everything that uses several hunks on the Amiga side.

The related Readme has been updated, too. The most important:
In YAM you choose the wanted block and press the winuaeclip hotkey (CTRL+c is default). The YAM message No area marked can be ignored, everything had been done correctly. (ps) (Translation: wk)

Combined player/decoder/encoder GUI for .ogg files
Carsten Siegner wrote:
Today I have finished the combined Ogg GUI for player/decoder/encoder. With this you can set up nearly everything in the programs you want to. Among other things the conversion of .ogg files to .wav files, encoding of AIFF, AIFF/c and WAV to Ogg files. You can enter additional information about the song in the Ogg file, too, like date, genre, track number, name of the song, artist, comment and serial number. Besides, you can set the audio quality of the Ogg file from 0 to 10.

This GUI can be obtained directly from me via email. The GUI has to be installed in the same directory where the Ogg player and Ogg encoder are placed. In addition you need a CLI program called "requeststring". But this is included in the archive I send as it is freeware, too. (ps) (Translation: wk)
