AmigaOS 4: Origyn Web Browser 1.3
Jörg Strohmayer provides an update of the SDL based browser
"Origyn Web Browser". Changes in version 1.3:
- Added the experimental web UI and made it the default start page
There are lots of problems with it (back/forward doesn't work, PgUp/
PgDown doesn't work, ...), but it's probably better than nothing
Of course you can still start OWB with a different start page by
passing an URL as argument
- Changed default window size to 960 x 720
- Enabled two pass loading
- Added a workaround for a memory trashing bug, http://wikipedia.org/
main page is working now (http://en.wikipedia.org/ still doesn't, 100%
CPU usage without displaying anything)
- More optimizions in the memory allocator
- Disabled GIF animations for now, they slow down everything too much
- Chars which need can be entered now, but the AmigaOS4 SDL seems
to ignore the charset, for chars not in ISO-8859-1 you get something
different
To extract the archive 7Zip is required, which is also available
at Strohmayer's website.

MIDI-Sequencer: BarsnPipes 1.27
Alfred Faust provides an update of the multimedia MIDI sequencer BarsnPipes. Changes in version 1.27:
- Decision that every (even the most little one) change will increment the version number and thus will result in a new release
- SysEx editor Bug fixed: When a 00 value was entered the string was cut off
- Only for the classic version: Bug removed: The tracks area in the Media-Madness window has not been redrawn during replay (updated/renewed)
BarsnPipes for classic Amigas is available in three versions: Two of them require at least OS 3.0 and u
differ in the number of colors for the GUI, the third runs on AmigaOS 2.1, too. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Amiga Future 70 (January/February 2008) released
Press release Today the new edition of Amiga Future issue 70 (January/February 2008) has been released. This means that all subscriptions, pre-orders and dealer orders have been shipped today.
In this issue you can find an article about AmigaOS 4 for ClassicPPC. Also associated with the release of OS4 for Classic Amigas there is a very comprehensive Special which shows the differences between AmigaOS 3.x and AmigaOS 4.0.
Also we have tested the new version of MindSpace for you, and even better there is a review of the brand new Amiga Forever 2008 in this latest issue.
Additionally in the Amiga Future magazine you will see reviews about AmigaSYS, IGame, Filemanager and lots of more.
At the title link you can get a more detailed description of the magazines contents and even see previews, extracts from this issue.
The Amiga Future is available as a German or English printed magazine directly from the editorial office at the title link and of course from some Amiga dealers as well. You can obtain your copy of the magazine by way of subscription or as a single issue, either with or without the Cover CD.
As usual you will find lots of PD software and even some full releases of former commercial software with every issue of the Amiga Future Cover CD. As it is issue number 70 and also our 10th anniversary, we thought it would be a nice way of celebrating this event by releasing the same number of full versions as the issue number. Enjoy! In short: This time you get 70 full releases on the Amiga Future Cover CD!
Users interested in this or forthcoming issues please contact us as soon as possible. This also applies to all subscribers interested in extending their subscription, please let us know as soon as possible.
Help wanted:
We need someone very urgently to write a PHP script for viewing different web banners. Of course not for free, but we would not like to go bankrupt either. :-)
We are still on the lookout for translators for the English issue of Amiga Future. You have to be able to translate German articles into good, clearly readable English text. (Otherwise you would have to read such news texts...:-)
If you want to help us, just write an e-mail with the subject "Amiga Future" to andreas@amigafuture.de. (snx)

ACube: Small delay in delivering Minimig
Pressannounce: UUnfortunately some delays forced us to slightly postpone the shipping of Minimigs. We would like to offer our customers the usual high quality service as a sign of respect for the many orders we received so far. Therefore we need to delay the shipping of the Minimig that will start on February, 1st.
Our apology and our thanks to all whom are waiting.
We would also take the opportunity to give more details about the PSU needed for the Minimig. The board needs to be powered with a stabilized 5V, so you'll need a PSU which can deliver such power and with a jack connector.
ACube Systems will also sell a Minimig bundle inclusive of an adequate PSU. This bundle will be available at the price of EUR 149 (excluding local taxes and shipping cost).
With every Minimig sold will be included a 1GB SD Card. It's plenty of space for your ADF files.
When ordering please specify if you want the board only (inclusive of the SD Card) or the bundle (Minimig+PSU+SD Card). (cg) (Translation: aj)

AmigaOS 4 Classic: Mouse wheel support for ps2m mice
Under AmigaOS 4 Classic, the problem existed until now that the existing drivers for PS2 mouse adapters (Cocolino, ps2m) provide the so-called Newmouse codes for mouse wheel movements, whereas the operating system itself as well as PPC-native applications solely support the wheelmouse standard, introduced with AmigaOS 4, for interpreting the mouse wheel.
Thomas Rapp has now converted the WheelBusMouse driver belonging to the ps2m adapter to AmigaOS 4. The driver now generates IDCMP messages, introduced with OS4, for mouse wheel movements, that is, PPC-native applications should now respond to the mouse wheel again as usual. Since the author cannot test the changes himself, for lack of appropriate hardware, he is asking for appropriate feedback under the title link.
Note: Older applications that are not converted to AmigaOS 4 are still dependent on Newmouse codes. In order to be able to use mouse wheels with these applications as well, the IPrefs call in the Startup-Sequence must be complemented with the "NEWMOUSE" switch.

Amiga Hardware Meeting in Nuremberg, Germany on March 9, 2008
Jörg 'amiga1303' Karisch writes: The Amiga user group IMAGE from Middle Franconia is inviting to Nuremberg, Germany again for the hardware meeting on Sunday, March 9, 2008.
The goal is to solve problems with hardware and software that is brought along, or to execute a couple of games over the network again, too.
Once again, we want to offer a flea market and a file sharing network for hardware and software, respectively, that is relevant to the Amiga. Detailed and current information can be found under the title link - also a list with the computers on display, among other things.
Unfortunately, computer seats are limited to about 20 pieces, which is why I ask guests who want to arrive with hardware to get in touch with me in a timely manner.
We look forward to all guests interested in the Amiga - maybe a hardware or software producer also has some time to stop by - and see you then on March 9.
Till then, best regards,

MeKa 2008: NatAmi developer board demonstrated
In an English forum article under the title link, Gunnar von Boehn reports on the demonstration of the NatAmi developer board (Amiga History Guide page with photo) by Thomas Hirsch at this year's MeKa in Karlsruhe.
According to this, unlike the Minimig by Dennis van Weeren, NatAmi possesses a virtually complete AGA implementation (including a 24-bit AGA mode together with 32-bit blitter), but in exchange, is based on very old FPGA chips with corresponding limitations.
As in the original Minimig, the processor is not emulated, and is located on a daughterboard on NatAmi, which can theoretically carry any 680x0 processor, or alternatively, a Coldfire processor as well, according to the developer's statements. However, only a 68030 was employed until now, a board with 68060 processor is planned next.
Booting the AmigaOS 3.x Workbench has only taken the blink of an eye, literally, on the NatAmi board. Furthermore, programs like Directory Opus, SysInfo and a module tracker as well as dragging screens, copper & voxel demos and games like Boulder Dash, BattleChess and Defender of the Crown were demonstrated on it. The software was loaded from hard disk using the IDE controller located on the board. (snx) (Translation: cad)

Insane-Software: Amijeweled 1.3
Press release We are very proud to announce the release of a new version of AmijeweledRTG, Amijeweled V1.3! In this version, some wishes of our customers were implemented, e.g. the long awaited fullscreen mode.
Additionally, we finally found the bug that made the startup of Amijeweled with OS4 a little bit nasty sometimes. Other features are a requester for error message handling and the ability to play sound simultaneously with other AHI programs.
Our customers already received the update via email as usual. Customers of
Alinea Computer who bought a CD version there may contact us to receive their update via email, too. Our contact details can be found on our website.
For the Amigans who don't know Amijeweled or were not fully satisfied with the V1.2 demo version, we provide a V1.3 demo version for download. Try it!
Our development will concentrate on future projects now, mainly the AGA version, which we will develop to bring this nice game to our "roots", too.
Special thanks go to Herbert Klackl who supported us in the development the new version of Amijeweled and tested it thouroughly with MorphOS.
We wish you much fun with the new version of Amijeweled and like to thank all our customers for the praises and the faith they gave to us.
With kind regards
Niels Schapke & Wolfgang Hosemann

C-Compiler: vbcc 0.8j patch 2
For the C-Compiler vbcc written by Volker Barthelmann (compiler core) and Frank Wille (Amiga specific adaptions) there is a second patch. Up to now the amigalib functions DeleteExtIO() and DeleteStdIO() did not allow that the zero pointer passed.
The compiler supports AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS, PowerUp and WarpOS and corresponds ISO-C according to ISO/IEC 9899:1989 as well as according to a subset of the newer standards ISO/IEC 9899:1999 (C99).

AMIX-Wiki moved
The AMIX-Wiki originally created by Andrew Whitlock has moved to a different server and will be now updated by Folkert de Gans. Additionally you can access it under the seperate domain amigaunix.com. AMIX-Wiki is about Commodore's Unix-Derivat for the Amiga.
The website includes FAQs to the installation (inclusive for the case that you have not a A3070 tape drive) as well as drivers for the hardware of later third party providers and precompiled software.

Jörg Strohmayer has published an update of the SDL-based browser "Origyn Web Browser". Changes in Version 1.2:
- Updated to SVN revision 224
- Now cleanly exit()s if running out of memory instead of crashing, most
parts of OWB don't check if allocating memory succeeded
- Reworked the memory allocator, should be nearly as fast as the original
one
The program 7Zip is required to extract th archive. It is available on the website of Jörg Strohmayer as well.
Direct download:
OWB: OWB.7z (5,6 MB) (Readme)
7Zip: p7zip-4.16.lha (708 KB)
