Jörg Strohmayer has published a new version of the SDL-browser OWB (screenshot). Changes in version 1.7:
  • Implemented the font system for AmigaOS4. Make sure outline fonts you installed yourself have the families set (in the Files tab in TypeManager)
  • Reenabled GIF animations, with the much faster fonts they are no longer such a big problem, at least if there are only a few animations on a page
  • Updated to SVN revision 236
  • Added Andrea's ARexx port (hostname: OWB, commands: OPENURL "url", STOP, GOBACK, GOFORWARD)

New, Wiki based version of ExoticA
ExoticA is about "retro": Scans of old games, Amiga and C64 soundtracks, pictograms for WHDLoad-Installs and much more. Exotica currently consists of 8000 sites.

After two years the transfer of the complete site to a so called Wiki has been finished. According to the authors some few sections have little problems but the users are already very welcome to complete the Wiki with further information or to fix bugs in existing entries.

Under old.exotica.org.uk you can still access the old version of the site but it is not supported any longer. (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: First beta version of PFTP 0.1
Peter Gordon's PFTP which is a FTP-client for AmigaOS 4 has changed its alpha status to beta.

Changes since the last alpha version:
  • It's no longer alpha (dancing bananas...)
  • Cool new about window
  • PFTP is now completely localised (.cd file included)
  • Added an Amiga version string
  • New toolbars at the top of the directory windows
  • Now properly searches the system search path for ssh when run from WB (thanks to Fredrik Wikström for the report)
  • You can now retry or delete transfers from the aborted transfer list
  • Should now start up a bit faster when you start it for the first time after a boot (its gone from ~4 seconds to ~2 seconds here)
  • PFTP now works a lot better in smaller modes like 640x480 and 800x600 provided you don't have huge fonts I guess... (and i remember when 800x600 was huge)
  • There is now proper documentation

APC&TCP: Current projects in 2008
Press release APC&TCP 2008: This year APC&TCP have plans for many Amiga projects. We would like to offer you a brief outline of our plans:

AmiATLAS

Many people doubted there would be any further development but we want you to know that it is still intended to be released, but in small updates. You should be aware that it is one of the most complex projects for the Amiga. Thousands of files have to be accounted for, updated and maintained. Future versions will require AmigaOS4 and will use a brand new ReAction GUI. Furthermore there will be support for many new file formats making the transfer between different platforms easier.

Amiga Guru Book

The German Amiga Guru Book has been available from us for some time. That's why many users asked us if we could make the English one available as well. The English version is going to be completed later in 2008, but due to lack of time, it will be around the middle of the year when it is ready, but it will eventually be finished.

CygnusED

Of course the development of CygnusED is also continuing. A new update is already in the pipeline but it will take some time to complete. We are also on the look-out for a competent developer for the MorphOS version.

DigiBoosterPro

An additional developer has been working on DigiBoosterPro for some time now. This has made development much quicker than was at first anticipated. Currently we think that we can give you a detailed status report in 2-3 months. Maybe even sooner... and if everything goes smoothly, there will be a version of DigiBoosterPro for 68k, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and even AROS.

Desert Racing

Actually a version of Desert Racing for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS has been planned for some time. Unfortunately the developer responsible for the game is very busy at the moment. That's why we are currently looking for a new programmer. Desert Racing has been written in BlitzBasic. Anyone interested in assisting with this development is invited to contact us.

Flyin' High

Currently we are working on an AmigaOS 4 version of Flyin' High. However it's not ceertain whether the port will ever be finished. We can only say that someone is working on it, but there is no promise that it will eventually be released. Many people have asked us if we were going to release a sequel to Flyin' High. The problem is we have no available developers to continue the work at a steady pace, and even less graphic artists. So sorry, at this point there is not likely to be a sequel to Flyin' High.

MED Soundstudio

Here the development has been long and drawn out, mainly due to the lack of time and technical problems, but this year it should finally be completed.

Amiga Future

With issue 70 the Amiga Future has reached 10 years old. That's a tremendous reason for us to celebrate. As well as the 6 issues of the print magazine intended for this year 2008, the Amiga Future homepage is going to be greatly enhanced and will contain lots of new features and content. In fact, we believe that the size of the Amiga Future homepage will double. We hope that the hits will rise like they have done over the past 12 months.

Is there any more news?

Currently we are in negotiations with people regarding various projects which we want to publish for the Amiga. New projects, mergers and aquisitions, ports and others, but nothing is set in stone at this point. However, you can be sure that there will be many new releases from APC&TCP in 2008. (snx)

Airsoft Softwair, Andreas Falkenhahn (ANF)

Hollywood 3: Evolution released
Press release: Airsoft Softwair are proud to annouce the immediate availability of Hollywood 3: Evolution. This is a major update which brings along many new features and general improvements over Hollywood 2.5. The most important new feature is that Hollywood can now compile native executables for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS. Yes, that's right. You can now save your Hollywood projects as fully stand-alone programs for Windows and Mac OS!

This is made possible by the new HAL (Hollywood Abstraction Layer) introduced in Hollywood 3. And thanks to Hollywood's cross-compiler, you do not even need to have these operating systems running. You can cross-compile Mac OS and Windows binaries from every system that Hollywood runs on. This makes it possible to create full-blown Mac OS or Windows applications from your AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS, or WarpOS installation of Hollywood. The Mac OS and Windows applications created by Hollywood are completely stand-alone and do not need any additional libraries. They use the OS API directly, thus giving you the best speed possible without any overhead. They will work on any system that runs at least Windows 2000 or Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger).

Furthermore, the Mac OS and Windows versions use Hollywood's new ACL (Amiga Compatibility Layer). This means that they can handle many Amiga file formats like IFF ILBM, IFF ANIM, IFF 8SVX, IFF 16SV, Protracker modules and Amiga bitmap fonts. Thus, your scripts will run straight out of the box on Windows and Mac OS because Hollywood can open all these Amiga specific formats.

Besides these huge two new features Hollywood 3 has several other cool new features. Here is a non-exhaustive list of new features in Hollywood 3:
  • Hollywood can compile Mac OS X programs now!
  • Hollywood can compile Windows programs now!
  • Switch between fullscreen and window via hotkey
  • Iconify Hollywood scripts to the Workbench
  • All Hollywood scripts are commodities now (controllable via Exchange)
  • Improved sound library
  • Cool new features in the DOS library
  • New animation library: animation.datatype no longer necessary
  • Direct access to the command line arguments
  • More flexible control over Hollywood's appearance
  • General code optimization and clean-up
  • Support for new sound streaming formats
  • Support for HAM6 and HAM8 animations
  • Eight new example scripts (over 50 in total)
  • Standard library set encompasses over 400 functions now!
  • Lots of other changes, optimizations and bug fixes

Hollywood 3: Evolution is Airsoft Softwair's ultimate Multimedia experience and a must-have for every Amiga user who wants to use the full power that is in his machine. Hollywood is available on a CD-ROM and as a download version. If you order the download version, you will have to download an ISO image which you need to burn on CD-R then. If you already own Hollywood, you can buy a discounted upgrade version.

Screenshots of Hollywood 3 in action (on Mac OS X and WinXP, among others) can be found on the Airsoft Softwair Homepage.

Hollywood is the ultimate bridge between all the different AmigaOS compatible platforms and the other two modern desktop systems, Windows and Mac OS! With Hollywood, you can save programs for all those platforms. You do not have to have AmigaOS4 or AROS, you can save programs for these platforms also from your AmigaOS3 installation! You do not need to have Mac OS X, you can still compile your programs for it using your AmigaOS or MorphOS installation. Only Hollywood makes it possible. If you want to learn more about Hollywood, please visit the Hollywood product information which also contains a full feature list of Hollywood.

All this makes Hollywood The Cross-Platform Multimedia Application Layer. Join the Multimedia revolution and get your personal copy of Hollywood 3: Evolution now! (cg) (Translation: cad)

Elbox: Cocolino driver update for AmigaOS 4 users
Press release: ELBOX Computer has released today the new driver for the Cocolino PS/2 mouse interface. The new software is available free of charge for all registered users of the Cocolino interfaces.

The Cocolino archive includes:
  • Cocolino.driver ver. 1.2
  • CocolinoTest
  • FreeWheel ver. 2.2.1

Changes in Cocolino.driver ver. 1.2:
  • generating IDCMP messages for OS4 added
  • OS4 parameter added for switching from NewMouse to IDCMP format

About Cocolino:

The Cocolino PS/2 Mouse Interface is a microprocessor-based adapter for attaching PS/2 mice, trackballs, glidepoints and radio-controlled mice from the world of PC computers. Cocolino can work with all models of Amiga computers. It simply plugs into the Amiga's mouse port. The Cocolino PS/2 Mouse Interface is a full 'plug and play' device.

No software is required for standard use (mouse movements + two buttons support). The enclosed software allows using two wheels and 3rd, 4th and 5th buttons available in many PS/2 mice and trackballs.

The Cocolino interface starts working simultaneous with the computer's start so mice can be used in the early-startup-menu (unlike the mice connected through the serial port). Cocolino uses linear movement interpolation, which makes mouse movements perfectly smooth with any screen frame rates. (cg) (Translation: cg)
