AROS: A week in AROS (from 19.10.15)
Weekly Krzysztof 'Deadwood' Śmiechowicz summarizes the latest progresses and developments of the AROS-programmers.
Week of October 19th:
- Firmware used in rPi2 port has been configured to a version working with AROS kernel (mschulz)
- Zune test suite is now extended with tests of MUIA_List_Format, MUIA_List_Pool#? and MUIA_List_Title (neil)
- Race conditions during layout in datatypes.library have been fixed (neil)
- Work on USB support for Linux hosted AROS continues (DizzyOfCRN)
- Propotype hotplug handling introduced in USB support for Linux hosted AROS (DizzyOfCRN)

New A1200 cases: Funding completed
Via Kickstarter.com, Philippe Lang has established a project for producing an improved replacement case for the Amiga 1200 (amiga-news.de reported). This case also can take in other boards like the Amiga Reloaded, MiST or Raspberry Pi and has pre-cut sections for extensions.
Four days before the deadline, sufficient money has been sought to finance the production of the cases. By currently 127.955 Euro also the next target could be achieved: If 130.000 Euro would be paid, the 3D-model-files will be made available to the public.

A-EON Technology: Amiga developers needed
According to A-EON in an English-language press release (PDF-file), the company has purchased several 68k and PowerPC programms and currently has more than 14 paid developers who are working on 23 software projects. A-EON has also created a dedicated SVN resource for all developers as well as "Mantis bug tracker together with a developer mailing list and Wiki to aid software development."
A-EON is "keen to expand and accelerate our software development effort to create new applications and utilities for the PowerPC and 68k platforms." Therefore they "are looking for experienced

Automatic monitor switcher: Connection for CR-version of Indivision MK2
André 'Ratte' Pfeiffer's automatic monitor switcher now can also be connected to the CR-version of the Flickerfixer Indivision MK2.
The developer has published the schema of a board which together with plugs from the local electronics store results in a connection cable, which owners of a MK2cr can use with the automatic monitor switcher without needing an additional adapter. André Pfeiffer thanks the user 'KneteKnut' for the lent Flickerfixer.

Kickstart 'ROMs': 3.X ROM chips from Cloanto
An increasing number of vendors is offering so-called "3.X ROMs" that can be built into all Amiga models except the A1000. Since a big German dealer recently started distributing these and we're receiving inquiries regarding these Kickstart ROMs, we approached Mike Battilana from copyright holder Cloanto and asked for additional information.
For quite some time, Cloanto has been offering a license to dealers for building their own Kickstart ROMs. The dealers receive ROM images and designs for the labels and then produce their own chips. To keep the costs down, PROMS or EPROMS are used instead of actual ROM chips. Smaller vendors from Poland or Spain have been the first licensees, but by now the bigger and more well known dealers are becoming interested in offering the new ROMs aswell.
Cloanto is offering this deal for an entire range of ROM versions, like all the ones highlighted in green in Cloanto's overview of all Kickstart releases, but dealers seem to be mostly interested in stocking the most recent version labeled "Kickstart 3.X".
The "3.X" moniker has been used in Amiga Forever for quite some time, it describes a Workbench 3.1 setup that has been updated with more recently released modules Cloanto licensed from various developers. The new Kickstart can easily be identified by looking at the copyright notices, which have been changed to read "Cloanto":
The other changes in Kickstart 3.X are listed in Cloanto's official FAQ:
- Patches originally released under the ESCOM and Gateway Amiga ownership (no SetPatch or reboot required)
- scsi.device and exec.library updates by Alexander Benedictov, Chris Hodges, Heinz Wrobel and Toni Wilen
- expansion.library fixes by Jeff Weeks
- FastFileSystem fixes by Etienne Vogt
- mathieeesingbas.library fixes by Harry "Piru" Sintonen
Kickstart 3.X makes it possible to use more than the first four gigabyte of a hard disk drive, but that requires a more recent release of Workbench/AmigaOS aswell - i.e. one containing FastFileSystem version 45.9 or newer, amongst other things.
To create the additional space required for the updates, the workbench.library had to be removed from the ROM - it has to be loaded from disk now. Cloanto's own Workbench distributions are prepared for this, AmigaOS 3.5 and 3.9 also feature a separate workbench.library on disk. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Printed magazine: Amiga Future 117 - Preview and extracts
Today some coloured extracts and previews have been published of issue 117 (November/December 2015) of the Amiga Future. Highlights of the issue are an interview with Kurt Cotoaga (Demonware), a review of hardware for the year 2016 and the sixth part of the workshop Developing Demo Effects #6: Handling the the Glenz. Among others on the CoverCD there is PD-software and full versions of Evil Garden, Mission Andromeda.

- Index of the active entry during MUIM_List_Insert and MUIM_List_InsertSingle is now updated (neil)

New A1200 cases: More than 110.000-Euro paid, official Amiga-T-Shirts
Nine days before the end of the Kickstarter campaign, for the project for producing new, improved Amiga-1200 cases (amiga-news.de reported) over 110.000 Euro has been paid. The financial target is 125.000 Euro.
Now you can also support the project by purchasing official Amiga-T-Shirts. You can choose between three motifs.
From weekend on, there will be new special editions of the case of Lukhash. One version will be offered only once and includes a private extra of the 8-Bit musician, the other version is available, if you pay for more than ten pieces.
Additionally, the traders TheGamingWareHouse and AmigaStore support the project by offering coupons. The Polish Amiga portal PPA has invested in 60 cases with a special colour.
The latest special editions of a case is a package of the demo scene group Phenomena and of 010101 Music. The Phenomena-edition also includes an USB-stick, a T-Shirt, a mouse pad, a key fob, a cup and a surprise. The edition of 010101 Music includes four CD-albums ("Paula, Agnus, Denise", "Insert Disk 2", "Immortal 3" and "Immortal 4") as well as three cups.

Hollywood: Easing Lib 1.2
Fabio Falcucci has updated his Hollywood library "Easing Lib". There are no detailed information of changes in version 1.2. Easing Lib is distributed as shareware and allows you to "create smooth transitions between values so you can use it to animate anything you like: graphical objects, colors, values, and any value you need to be smoothly changed into another value."

Keyboard adapter: Firmware update for Sum USB 1200/600
Sum is a USB adapter for connecting keyboards to the Amiga (amiga-news.de reported). For the base model Sum USB (for the A1200) and its variant for the Amiga 600 a firmware update has been released now that, for example, adds support for Apple keyboards.
Firmware update v20151017 comes with following changes:
- Apple USB keyboard (USB hub-equipped models) support
- New F10 option in adapter settings that enables displaying selected keys codes
- New F12 option in adapter settings that establishes displaying device settings
- New R-Shift + F19 Mac keyboard shortcut launching adapter settings
- Improved Shift keys support for Pinball series games
