Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan is supposed to simplify developing games, which run on an A500 with a screen refresh rate of 50 Hz. If a game requires more power then the rate can be set to 25 Hz. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, for creating levels the editor Tiled is used. For sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats (mod, 8svx, anim5) are used.
For managing the game logic (dialogues, items, branches) a script language is used (a subset of Ink), which is compiled into bytecode and executed by a virtual machine. The Scorpion Engine can also import Backbone projects. The developer presents a screenshot of a Scorpion version of the commercial Backbone game "Tales of Gorluth 3".
Status updates and videos about the project you can find on the official website on Facebook. The editor itself is proprietary but some of the test games which have been already released are open source. Therefore all downloads including the editor are offered on
Github. Hogan asks you to use that bugtracker for reporting bugs.

Free motherboard design: Rämixx500 reproduces Amiga 500+
Thanks to open source projects the mainboards of the A1200, A3000 and of the A4000 can be produced by everyone having corresponding skills and tools. Thanks to "Rämixx500" now it is also possible to reproduce an A500+, Revision 8A.1. Only two functional changes are mentioned: Instead of a battery which is soldered a fastener for button cells is used. Secondly, both audio channels are automatically mixed if only one channel is connected to an audio device.

With Thomas Igracki's SmartClipboard for MorphOS "you are able to defineactions if you copy something to the clipboard".
The author furthermore wrote: "Its usefull, if you f.e. read a documentation of a newly downloaded program in MultiView etc. Imagine there are links to a website, a youtube video or the email addressof the author in this documentation.
Previously you had to mark the text with the link, copy it to theclipboard, then open the appropriate program and paste the text there."

MorphOS: Uptime creenbar plugin 1.3
"Uptime is a Screenbar-Plugin for MorphOS. It displays the Systems Uptime in the screen title. Optionally it can display the current uptime vs the uptime record in a gauge."
Changes in version 1.3:
- Added a button to prefs to reset the uptime record.
- The system boot time is now displayed in the bubble that appears when clicked.
- Also stores date and time the uptime record was achieved on and displays it in the bubble.

MorphOS: Screenshot screenbar plugin 1.2
Screenshot.sbar "can grab single Windows, multiple Windows, freely selectable rectangle areas, even areas simply drawn with the mouse and much more and save them in multiple image formats while residing patiently in your screens titlebar".
New in version 1.2:
- Fixed a nasty bug that made the task responsible for grabbing ("Snapper.n") crash on saving an image when two or more screens were open and one got closed.
- The iris effect didn't fill the whole screen when it came close to screen borders. Fixed.
- Mouse pointer opacity wasn't calculated at all. Fixed.
- TestPaint: Added another mode to arrows that also draws an arrow head at the start of the arrow, so the arrow points to two directions.
- TestPaint: Optimized redraw of paint object.
- TestPaint: Sped up symmetry tool calculations by a factor of three brazillion.
- TestPaint: Repeat last draw op (the Recycle-Button) didn't really work. Fixed.
- TestPaint: Fixed offset of the cursor when zoom window was open and the zoomed area became smaller than the window.
- TestPaint: The window can be sized larger than the actual image now.

Raspberry Pi and Amiga: A314 also for A600, support of USB mice
Niklas Ekström has created a FPGA-based adapter board called "A314" which is used to connect a Raspberry Pi to the internal expansion port of an Amiga 500. He is also working on version for the Amiga 600 but the production of the prototypes delayed again. At the latest in two weeks working prototypes are supposed to be available.
Another possible application of the A314 was added to ones which have been known so far: Using a remote mouse (video) the Amiga mouse pointer is controlled by an USB mouse connected to the Raspberry Pi. Further ideas are presented on the blog crowstudio.se.

Game Construction Kit: Two games created with "RedPill"
On Sunday we reported about the latest version 0.7.12 of the Game Construction Kit "RedPill". We would like to introduce two current games which have been created with the help of this development environment:
HappyBat is a port of the game Flappy Bird. You have to control a bird - in this case a bat-like creature - through obstacles and prevent it from falling down by tapping the space key or the fire button:
Author Carlos Zener has released this game for testing the new highscore feature of RedPill. On request of amiga-news.de he explained that due to a positive feedback he is going to develop a complete game, including "title screen, more levels and music." He already has found a fellow for composing the music, but explained: "Certainly I will need help for the title screen cover, I would appreciate any help with that." Contact details you can get from the readme of the game. The first impressions of the game are very promising. We will follow this up.
The Sokoban clone RedpillPuzzleHD has been also released and is available as ADF version as well. Blocks of different colours have to be moved to get them to the exit. Bumped blocks are moving as long as they hit a wall. Additionally a red block has to be got out of the way:
This game offers appealing, classic Amiga music during the levels and some challenges for your brain. In future versions the author could pay some more attention to the background.

Jump'n Run: C64 port "Fred's Journey"
In the mid-1990s the protagonist "Fred" had many adventures on the C64, e.g. in the Fred's Back series. In cooperation with the former author and the graphic artist Hans Sommer, Retroguru has ported the first two parts of the series to the Amiga, called "Fred's Journey".
Fred's Journey requires an Amiga equipped with at least 1 MB RAM. Currently some problems might occur depending on respective memory and Kickstart configuration of the computer. The developers have already released two updates to fix that. The game can be downloaded for free but a boxed version "most likely" will be there in the next few weeks.

The Register: Ideas for explaining an Amiga mystery wanted
A strange case the "The Register" has reported under the title link: an Amiga 4000 only then were transfered files from an external SCSI harddrive if the clock program was running - with a certain window size and placed on the top right-hand side of the Workbench.
The editor, Richard Speed, himself has given a possible explanation: "I suspect the issue was a weird DMA conflict between the DMA-based SCSI controller and the rest of the system with the clock application rendering adjusting the timings just enough for it to work." But he has enrouraged the readers to give similar theories in the comment section.
