Amiga Arena: full version and comment
Amiga Arena Full Version
In co-operation with Denis Unger the Amiga Arena makes the release of "Foreign
Language Master V2.3" possible! FLM is a program for foreign languages that can
be used as a dictionary for text translation and to learning of vocabularies.
FLM contains some English-German dictionaries (all in all about 8 MB with about
175,000 entries). Denis Unger continues developing "FLM". For a new version of
"FLM" Denis Unger would be pleased to receive concrete suggestions for improving
the software and to receive feedback!
Further information and data bases for use with "FLM" can be found here, contact: flmdic@gmx.de.
Amiga Arena - comment
I use "FLM" almost daily myself and don't want to miss it anymore!
My call to you - with a short mail to Denis U. everybody would contribute to
further supporting and improving this tool.

GFX-BASE: poll results and font tutorial
On the GFX-BASE you can now find the results of our latest poll. We had 331
votes regarding our question which graphics board you use/own. Have a look
yourself to see which one got the most votes.
Additionally we have a new (English) tutorial. It's all about fonts. We
explain the use of different fonts and font tools as well as the conversion of
different font types that you can use on the Amiga. We also deal with webfonts and
the use of fonts in word processors.
And then we have received again some more entries of games and scene demos that support graphics cards. More to follow soon.

97% of the poll participiants want the Amiga-Society to stay alive! For this we

The site is now available in a light version. The two central points

whether a software page (in German) shall be created on the basis of the Big
Book of Amiga hardware. The full functionality will be reached again until

Role-playing game: Exult 0.93alpha4
Rüdiger Hanke writes:
My Exult port for Amiga is available for download on my homepage. Exult is a role-playing
game engine which can interpret Ultima 7 datafiles. Ultima 7 still captivates after many
years with an epic storyline, a vast world and many details. You can find some screenshots
on my webpage.
The story: 200 years have passed in Britannia since your last visit as the Avatar.
Driven by the mockery of a demonic creature calling itself "The Guardian", you travel
once more to Britannia and arrive in Trinsic on a scene of gruesome murder. Maybe the
new organization "The Fellowship", which is gaining more and more influence
in the lands, is involved in it? Or maybe this is just the beginning of a larger plan that might endanger
all Britannia?
Required is an Amiga with FPU and graphics card as well as the original PC game by Origin. Please
note that the files on the disk version are usually packed and have to be installed on an
MS-DOS system to get the required files. Alternately, the uncompressed game is contained on
the "Ultima Collection" CD-ROM. As a small goodie for the Amiga I have included a preferences
program with which you can change all game options with a graphical interface on OS3.5 and above.
An interesting tidbit: While porting the game, I found a sourcecode to read IFF files. Indeed,
some of the Ultima 7 files are in IFF format. Even the chunk lengths are in Motorola and not
Intel byteorder ... (ps) (Translation: rh)

e.p.i.c. interactive: Feeble Ubdate
Thomas Steiding of e.p.i.c. interactive entertainment GmbH wrote:
Update & FAQs about The Feeble Files
As announced last week we require at least 400 pre-orders to enable an Amiga port
of the cartoon adventure The Feeble Files. Including today's entries we received
232 pre-orders and we are hoping, that the following days will bring the rest. The game
can be pre-orders from us (order@epic-interactive.com)
or from any stockist.
With the enclosed FAQ we hope to be able to answers some frequently asked
questions regarding the announcement.
Q: What is The Feeble Files about?
A: The Feeble Files is the official sequel to Simon The Sorcerer II by the
British Adventuresoft company. Feeble is a little green alien having the task to
make circles in grain fields on earth. He lives in a world restrictively ruled by the Omnibrain
and he is an honest citizen never violating the group's big catalog of rules. But one day this kind
hearted gawky stumbles into a full-grown conspiracy against the Omnibrain. As one can see from the
screenshots on our homepage, the characters of this game are fully rendered. The game comes along
with complete German or English spoken samples. The German games magazine PC-Games rated the title
at 80%, then. The German vocals came for example from the German movie voices of Brad Pitt, Whoopi
Goldberg, and Roseanne. More information and topical Mac screenshot are to find on our homepage.
Q: What Amiga do I need for The Feeble Files?
A: The Feeble Files requires an Amiga equipped with a 4 MB graphics board and 32 MB of memory.
Furthermore a 68060 OR a PPC CPU is required. Theoretically the game would run on a 68040/40, but
sure would be very very slow on this configuration.
Q: When will the game be out?
A: As soon as we have received 400 pre-orders (no matter if those were directly ordered
from us or from a vendor - who forwards the orders to us), we will start to port the game to
the Amiga. Due to the porting engine of our leader of development, Paul Burkey, the game
then should be shipping for the Amiga within 6 weeks!!
Q: Will there be more Amiga games from e.p.i.c. interactive?
A: Theoretically it would be possible to port to the Amiga more games currently available for the Apple
Macintosh. But since license fees for other games, e.g. like in case of the Settlers clone
Knights&Merchants or the RPG-mix Gorky 17, are much more expensive (and hence the number of
sales to be expected for an Amiga version must be higher), it is clear: If The Feeble Files port will not
become reality, we don't need to start thinking about more games. (ps) (Translation: mj)

AROS News
As already reported
there were hardware problems with the server hosting the AROS website.
Some good and bad news about that: the good news is, that
the hardware will be replaced, the bad news is, that the machine will be
connected to a new network and thus the page temporary might not be
available, again, due to DNS conversion.
Here the original message with more details:
As you might have noticed, we had a lot of hardware failures
in the last months. Now there are good and bad news. The good
one is that the hardware will be replaced. The bad one is that
the machine is moved to a different network and this means that
we'll have DNS hell all over again ! The "real" name of the
machine on which AROS is hosted is "sebigbos.hepe.com". This
name should work when aros.org doesn't. So when CVS doesn't like
you anymore, check AROS/scripts/updatecvspath to fix the host name
until I have fixed the DNS server (usually takes only several
weeks...hrm :-). The mailing list runs on lists.hepe.com.
The only thing which will not be reachable for the time
being is the web and the ftp site.

Game: New Schlachtfeld pictures
In spite of the turbulences around the Amiga-Society of course development of
the Game Schlachtfeld is being continued.
Edgar Leiding rendered some units for the game's board, again. Thus now there are
nine unit previews available - there will be some changes, of course. There will
be a survey regarding the camouflage: the question is, if the enemies should use
different colours (red, blue, ...) or should differ by different textures and/or
tactical field signs. You can also post your opinion about that in the forum of
the Schlachtfeld website.

mSQL database administration program
Who ever dealt with SQL database systems soon realized that in fact
only mSQL comes into question for working offline.
mSQL is the most compact and resource sparing SQL-DBMS for the Amiga.
One example to point this up:
The mSQL daemon requires less than 10% of the resources the MySQL
daemon needs and even can react 4-times faster on client requests
via mUSD (unix socks daemon).
The biggest disadvantage of all SQL systems for the Amiga is the lack
of any GUI software for administration and database care.
That's why I wrote a program named mSQL-Administrator, which
contains the operation of the following executables of the "mSQL.bin"
directory:
msql, msql2d, msqladmin, msqldump, msqlexport, msqlimport,
relshow, and mUSD.

Edivision LLC working with Amiga Inc.
Edivision Teams Up With Amiga To Develop Exciting New Content
Snoqualmie, WA - July 12, 2001
Edivision LLC announced today that they would create game applications for the Amiga Digital Environment
(AmigaDE). The company plans to create 3 titles in the coming year for the AmigaDE environment. The games
will be distributed through the Sharp Space Town web site for release in Japan and through other Amiga
distribution channels worldwide. Amiga and Edivision also announced a joint relationship where Edivision
would provide key pieces of technology for the AmigaDE.
The principals at Edivision have more than 30 years of
experience in the computer graphics field. Patrick Roberts
created 2D and 3D effects for Walt Disney's feature animation
classic "Dinosaur". He has also created software and animation
for Dreamworks Animation, Disney Classics and the Disney
channel. Jeremy Engelman is one of the finest 3D artists in the
world. His best-known work is the artwork for Cyan's Riven, the
sequel to Myst. Steven Haun is an award-winning computer
graphics producer with more than 10 years of experience in the
computer graphics and entertainment industry. His credits
include effects production for Warner Brothers, Universal
Pictures, ABC, CBS, and Fox Television.
"This relationship with Edivision will offer consumers some
exciting content and an enjoyable experience that they will want
to share with others," said Bill McEwen, President and CEO of
Amiga, Inc. "Patrick, Jeremy and Steven are longtime supporters
of Amiga and we appreciate their contributions to driving
adoption of our software. With their expertise in gaming and the
entertainment industry, we look forward to some revolutionary
games for the PDA market."
"We are very excited to be working with Amiga to generate
compelling content for the AmigaDE," said Patrick Roberts, one
of the founders at Edivision. "When Amiga announced their
relation with Sharp, we saw this as an opportunity to get in
early on a new, exciting gaming platform. Devices like the Sharp
Zaurus and other PDA's offer the ability to reach a new and
different generation of gamers."
Edivision will focus on original titles for its first set of
releases. The company is also negotiating with other content
providers to bring their titles to the AmigaDE platform.
The market for video games in the United States, which includes
arcade, PC, console, and online gaming, is currently estimated
to be worth $11 billion. The AmigaDE platform allows developers
to create game applications that target this market. The binary
portable nature of AmigaDE content allows applications to
migrate seamlessly from cell phones and handheld devices to
set-top boxes and up to desktop machines and servers.
Edivision Press Release
Los Angeles, CA - July ##, 2001
Edivision LLC announced today that it has signed a distribution agreement
with Amiga, Inc. Amiga, Inc. will have world-wide distribution rights on
software titles Edivision will produce using the
AmigaDE operating environment. Also under the agreement Edivision will make
technology it develops for its AmigaDE titles available to Amiga, Inc.
Edivision LLC will create 3 development labels over the next year that run on the AmigaDE platform.
Two labels will be exclusively devoted to entertainment
titles, while the third will provide utilities, drivers, and extended
functionality. Edivision will focus on original titles for its first set
of releases, but the company is also negotiating with other developers to
bring their titles to the AmigaDE platform.
"This relationship with Edivision will offer consumers some exciting content
and an enjoyable experience that they will want to share with others," said
Bill McEwen, President and CEO of Amiga, Inc. "With their expertise in
gaming and the entertainment industry, we look forward to some revolutionary
games for the PDA market."
"Titles created for the AmigaDE are capable of running unmodified on a
number of platforms including PocketPC, Zaurus, Windows, and Linux. This
gives us a tremendous advantage in bringing a title to market." remarked
Steven Haun, CFO of Edivision. "It allows us to focus development on the
title itself and not the limitations of cross-platform least common
denominator intrinsics."
About Amiga Inc.
Amiga Inc. provides technology to developers for writing and
porting applications to a new multi-media operating systems
which is hardware agnostic. AmigaDE is a joint development
effort between the Tao Group of Reading England, and Amiga
Incorporated. AmigaDE based applications can run unchanged on

SH3, SH4, and NEC V850 processors. The AmigaDE can run hosted
on Linux, Embedded Linux, Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, CE and QNX4.

Genetic Species for Gameboy Advance petition
Milan Pollé (author of the site, but not the petition pages) write:
Seeing the FPS games announced for the Gameboy Advance started me thinking
about the awesome Amiga game Genetic Species, by
Marble Eyes.
This game is an FPS with really great atmosphere and elements borrowed
from the classic 'Paradroid', like being able to take over the bodies
and skills of your enemies.
As this game worked well on low-end Amigas, about three years ago, I
thought it might be possible to port it to the Gameboy Advance. The
developers of this game worked for three years on it and only sold
hundreds or at the most a couple of thousands of copies, as the Amiga
market had shrunk when the game was completed, but also because of
piracy. Needless to say the developers were really disappointed.
I coined this idea in the Gameboy Advance forum on www.ign.com
and people were really interested in this game, so they started
contacting the developers, who were suprised by the sudden attention
this game got. At the moment the developers are looking into the
possibilities of doing a port.
We ask anyone interested in a Gameboy Advance version to sign our
petition. Even if in the end a port won't or can't be done, it will
show the developers that their work is appreciated by a lot of
people. (ps) (Translation: sk)

AMIGA Inc. News
press release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Amiga joins Tao in its plans to support Open Contents Platform Association
Snoqualmie, WA - July 13, 2001
Amiga today announced its support of the Open Content Platform Association
(OCPA), The Tao Group, along with Sharp, JVC and Kyocera, launched the
OCPA today to promote the creation of a flexible and open environment
that will benefit hardware vendors and content developers.
The Amiga developer community is the largest and most experienced
at creating applications targeting the intent platform from Tao. Amiga
developers are well known in the industry for creating compelling
multimedia applications. Amiga is already working with a number of
Tao partners to deliver games and productivity applications for the
intent platform.
"The standardization of the intent platform will help Amiga's development
community target a broad number of hardware devices", said Bill
McEwen, the President and CEO of Amiga, Inc. "Our experience with intent has
shown that it is an excellent platform for building multimedia applications.
We have more than 18 months of expertise in creating application that run on
intent and we look forward to working with the OCPA to share our experience
with them."
"Amiga has been an excellent partner with a worldwide development community
that can benefit from this initiative", said Francis Charig, Chairman of the
Tao Group. "Amiga's inputs will be valuable to the working members of the
OCPA and we welcome their participation."
Amiga offers developers a number of programs and products to help build
applications. The Amiga SDK (available at http://www.amiga.com) offers a
development environment and tools for developers. The Amiga Support Network
(http://www.amigadev.net) offers developers a forum for discussion, mailing
lists, and other infrastructure for joint collaboration efforts.
Amiga has also signed a distribution agreement with Sharp Corporation that
allows content created by Amiga developers to be distributed on Sharp Space
Town. Sharp Space Town provides applications and other content that run on
the Sharp Zaurus and other Sharp PDA devices. Amiga also offers distribution
channels for worldwide markets.
About Amiga Inc.
Amiga Inc. provides technology to developers for writing and porting
applications to a new multi-media operating system which is hardware
and operating system agnostic. Amiga is based in Snoqualmie, WA,
28 miles east of Seattle and has offices worldwide.

Hyperion and the StormC 4
Steffen Haeuser wrote:
After our reactions on the "StormC 4 news" I was asked by Ben Hermans to explain
our position on this topic to clarify some misunderstandings and
falsifications.
At Heretic II times we were using a "self development" called gcc-WarpUP, a self
standing port of gcc to WarpUP and 68k. This compiler had the substantial
disadvantage that no debugger - very important for program testing and fast bug
fixing - was available (and wasn't easily made, either). Besides that the
compiling speed was quite slow (despite PPC exe), and there was no GUI
available. At that time this compiler was the only alternative, though:
- SAS/C: Even when leaving aside the missing WarpOS support, this compiler
isn't really suitable for a "big" PC port. Doing a PC port there's normally a
heavy use of C++, and when a compiler isn't 100% compatible with the standard
used by compilers like gcc/VisualC++/Metroworks CodeWarrior - inclusive
possible "enhancements" of these compilers - doing a port is made much more
difficult, if not even impossible. It may well be possible to develop a C project with
such a compiler but not a C++ project. The only one of our projects being not
C++ was Heretic II. And the most of our projects rely HEAVILY on C++, with STL
and all things belonging to it.
Because of that we don't feel like doing long ports and then, when linking,
having to realize that the compiler isn't compatible enough with gcc/... making a
compiler change necessary.
- vbcc: In my opinion this is a great compiler, too, but as it doesn't support
C++ using this compiler is completely out of question for us. Besides that
we prefer a commercial product. In case of bugs you may demand a fast bugfix,
or you get telephone support or so.
But sure, the vbcc is a good compiler - but it simply doesn't suit our needs.
By the way: vbcc has no source level debugger, either (wosdebug is not
source level but assembler level).
- StormC 3: For StormC 3 (in contrary to 4) counts the same as for SAS/C - a
special compiler not compatible enough for the Amiga market.
Now Haage&Partner have decided to drop their "own" code generator in favour of
the gcc code generator - what was welcomed by us - with the version 4 of StormC.
That means: StormC 4 has more in common with gcc-WarpUP than with StormC 3.
That means that with StormC 4 you get all what you get with gcc-WarpUP but
additionally you get the special features of the StormC that gcc-WarpUP doesn't
offer:
- A superb source level debugger
- 40% faster compiling than with gcc-WarpUP thanks to optimizations
(in the PPC version)
- A significiantly more efficient I/O linker library
- A profiler for 68k and PPC
- A graphical IDE
- The possibility to compile via network
- (Partly) Object file compatibility with StormC 3 and vbcc-WarpUP
and SAS/C 68k
- The possibility to create mixedbinaries
- The possibility to easily create PPC shared libraries
- Support possibilities from the developer (very important for us,
no matter what compiler !!!)
Though this sounds like advertising: For a developer of commercial software
there's simply no alternative to StormC 4 on the Amiga.
And I don't see any rason why people absolutely want to talk about an
alternative.
If I only think of the many weeks (!!!) of work the debugger of StormC 4 has
shortened my work on the port of Freespace. These are REAL working hours I have
saved through this.
By the way, the BSD compatibility of the includes of StormC (as gcc derivative)
is considerably better than the one of the CodeWarrior includes for MacOS.

Amiga chooses H&P's StormC as official development environment
July 14, 2001
Amiga Inc is pleased to announce that it is partnering with
HAAGE&PARTNER GmbH, of Glashuetten, Germany in order to provide Amiga
developers with a world class development environment.
Amiga Inc is working closely with HAAGE&PARTNER to provide for the
first their flagship StormC developer package will become the official
Amiga Development System. This will see StormC providing transparent,
language independent support for both the AmigaOS and the
AmigaDE.
"Amiga is committed to moving application development forwards to
support our new architecture." said Fleecy Moss, Chief Technical
Officer of Amiga Inc. "This means dynamic, persistent components,
descriptive, location independent interfaces, brokered services and
a complete separation of design from implementation. HAAGE&PARTNER
have spent many years creating a simple, easy to use, yet powerful
development package for the AmigaOS, and we are delighted to be
working with them as we push forwards.
"We are very pleased about the Amiga certification on StormC",
said Jürgen Haage, General Manager of HAAGE&PARTNER GmbH. "This
certification is a quality assurance for Amiga Inc. and guarantees
the Amiga developer community a continuous further development of
our StormC development system."

Hyperion Entertainment: Warp3D for Voodoo 3
We are pleased to announce that our Voodoo 3 Warp 3D V4 drivers for
Prometheus (both 68K and PPC) are now fully completed.
We are currently in the process of rewriting the Warp 3D license agreement so
you can expect the full driver package in the course of the next week.
As we are still getting e-mails about the Elbox situation, we would like to
point out that we have not heard from anybody at Elbox for over two weeks now.
At this point it appears to be highly improbable that we will ever see 3D
drivers for the Elbox's range of PCI products.
Again, we would like to ask everybody mailing us about 3D support for Elbox
PCI hardware to contact Elbox rather than Hyperion Entertainment.
We cannot be held responsible in any way for the lack of 3D support. If 3D
graphics are important to you, we advise you to look into purchasing a
competing PCI product."

Soundtrack and Boing beachballs sought
My name is Bernhard Kellerer, I am Creative Director of the London
film production company "iMagic Films Limited". I am Amiga fan since 1987,
foundation member of the Austrian Amiga Club Tirol
and still convinced that we'll be "Back For The Future" one day. What always
fascinated me about the Amiga is the community that sticked through thick and thin
with our "girlfriend". And just this community it is that gave me this idea.
We will soon film a commercial for an Austrian town. It is a low budget production which
is made possible only through the (mostly) free of charge working volunteers. Despite
the low budget, the 30 - 40 second spot will certainly have a high cinematic standard.
It is about a young woman who is catapulted from a dreary surroundings into a fascinating
dreamworld. About 150 extras, some fire-eaters, pyros and confetti bombs will provide
a proper spectacle. The spot will be shown in many cinemas.
Now we're looking for a piece of music which accompanies the dream journey of our
protagonist. GEMA-free music is out of question, but a real movie composer too expensive.
Here the community comes into play: there are many talented musicians in the Amiga
MOD- and demo-scene who could easily compose a soundtrack for us. Maybe an already
existing piece could be modified. We haven't agreed on any music style so far and
are thus open for everything.
Since nevertheless some conditions regarding length and structure of the piece should
be obeyed, I suggest that people who are interested in the project contact me directly
by e-mail.
As a special insider gag it's supposed to rain boing balls which the local firemen
will let fall down upon the extras from a net affixed to a ladder. For this, we need
a larger number of boing beachballs. And here again the community is asked: who can
do without his beachball before the summer vacation? Which dealers have maybe still
boing beachballs in stock and could put them shortly at our disposal? Maybe this
commercial could later be adapted as an AMIGA commercial.
My postal address is:

epic interactive: Amiga version of The Feeble Files?
In the last weeks we received quite a few e-mails and requests for an
Amiga version of our upcoming Mac conversion of the cartoon adventure The Feeble
Files. Since porting the game to the Macintosh is now completed we have
evaluated the possibility of an Amiga version of this great game. An
Amiga version would require an 060/PPC equipped Amiga with 32 MByte RAM and a
graphics board (4 MB). The game would come with complete English and German
speech versions on at least 2 CDs. You can find more information on this great
title in the projects section of our homepage.
Because the Amiga market has declined over the past 12 months and porting a
game to another platform is always also a financial risk we have decided to
start a preorder campaign for The Feeble Files Amiga: If we receive at least
400 preorders for this game we will bring The Feeble Files to the Amiga.
Porting the game from the Mac to the Amiga should not take more than 6
weeks, so that the game could theoretically reach Amiga users by early
September. Please send orders to order@epic-interactive.com. The game will
cost Euro 51,10 (plus shipping). If you wish to pay by credit card please
contact KDH Datentechnik.

Merlancia Industries
|
Dave Haynie: CTO of Merlancia Industries
Dave Haynie is the new CTO of Merlancia Industries. Dave Haynie might be well known by any
Amiga user, cause he's a kind of living legend. The following is a brief summary of his career so far:
Dave Haynie studied electronic engineering at the Carnegie Mellon University. After his studies four month
of employment at General Electric he was hired by Commodore in September 1983 to support their "TED" project,
which was started by Jack Tramiel. Later the C116 emerged from the "TED" project. While his times at Commodore
Haynie decisively worked on many projects, like several 8 bit machines (e.g. C128), the Amigas A500, A2000,
A2500, A3000, and A4000, Zorro-III, and he took part in the development of the AA and AAA chipsets, etc..
All in all he spent 11½ years at Commodore. 'Beside' of that he wrote about 50 articles for Amiga magazines
of those times; Amiga Sentry, .Info, Amiga Transactor, Amazing Computing, Amiga World, etc.. Furthermore he wrote
some developer tools and the FFS tool "DiskSalv".
Some of his 'stations' at Commodore:
- 1983: Commodore "TED" project, low-cost VIC-20 replacement.
- 1984: Commodore 128 project, the sequel to the venerable Commodore 64..
- 1986: Amiga 2000-B - slot-based Amiga.
He designed the gate-array (Buster) and a "coprocessor interface" for the CPU slot.
- 1988: Amiga 2620/2630: 68020/30 CPU cards for the Amiga 2000.
- 1989: Amiga 3000: First fully 32-bit Amiga architecture. As a co-creator of the system, he designed
the basic system architecture, the Zorro III expansion bus standard, and the "Buster" bus control
gate array which implemented Zorro III.
- 1991: Amiga 3000+": initially a product oriented design, this coupled the new Amiga "AA"
system/graphics chipset, an AT&T DSP3210 media coprocessor, 16-bit audio and modem CODECs, etc.
Management changes canceled the project, though some of its "DNA" lived on the Amiga 4000 and 1200.
He also developed basic modular "Acutiator" architecture for next-generation Amiga systems.
- 1992: Developed 32-bit SCSI controller for Amiga 4000, architecture for stand-alone DSP add-in cards,
and prototype of "AAA" motherboard, for Commodore's 4th generation, 64-bit Amiga graphics system.
System works, but by 1993, there's no money left to fix the four full-custom ASICs.
- 1994: Developed plug-in graphics subsystem for the Amiga. Commodore declares bankruptcy,
this is never built.
Haynie created a 2-hours video about the last day at Commodore and the goodbye-party, known by the name of
"The Deathbed Vigil and Other Tales of Digital Angst". This video for example is as a bonus content of the
"Amiga Forever" CD by Cloanto.
After his times at Commodore Dave Haynie worked for the Scala Inc. company for a short time, where about 80%
of the former Commodore engineers met, again. In November 1995 Amiga Technologies contracted him to consult for
the PowerAmiga project. He developed a concept, but due to Escom's financial problems this project got canceled.
After that, in May 1996, Haynie was contracted by the PIOS Computer AG, where he was in charge of the hardware.
Shortly before founded by Stefan Domeyer PIOS engaged also other former Amiga Int. or Commodore employees, among them
such clinking names like Dr. Peter Kittel and Andy Finkel. PIOS formed up to become a successful distributor of
PowerPC hardware and to make the PowerAmiga dream reality - the term of "PiosONE" was born.
Later from the PIOS Computer AG the Met@box AG emerged, a group of meanwhile
six companies with among other things Settop boxes as part of their product line. Me@box made application for
insolvency in May 2001.
More stations on Haynie's way:
- 1999 - Fleecy Moss started the KOSH project

also Carl Sassenrath, RJ Mical, Wolf Dietrich (Phase 5), and Dan Dodge (QNX) were part of it.

He contributed information for the "The International Technology And. Computing Historical Association"

CNet: Psion leaving handheld business
Psion, who were about to utilize the AmigaDE for future PDAs, will leave the
handheld business. The reason might be that Psion do not have enough financial
resources to compete with PalmOS or WinCE products.
The share declined in price to it's all-time-low during the last weeks.
But Psion is working on the Netbook. It is obscure to what extent these changes will affect
the use of the AmigaDE.

amiga-news.de headlines on your homepage
Within the scope of a PHP workshop the (German) Amiga-Magazin has recently dealt with
the possibility to include our news via a backend within their own PHP website. As the scripts were thoroughly tested since then we don't want to withhold this possibility from our users. Here you can see an example of the result.
Important: The preset time of six hours must not be reduced! Calls with shorter intervals will lead to IP blocking!
Please read in the following translation of the article from Amiga-Magazin
how you can include this service in your website:
Fresh news with PHP
Some news sites like amiga-news.de offer a backend service for up-to-date news.
To do this the site creators provide a special file on the server that e.g.
makes the last ten headlines available. These data can be included in the own
start page by using PHP so that you can always offer fresh news on your site.
In listing 3 you see a solution in PHP. You can include this script snip in the
own document and with every call are the current headlines of amiga-news.de
shown on your page. The PHP script pulls the data file and does a conversion into
HTML code. This is written into a temporary file and then included in the page.
Before doing the transfer the script verify the age of the present local data.
After reaching an appointed age the head file of amiga-news.de is read and the
list is created anew. Then the script overwrites the local data.
In the first part are declared some variables. These are the server address, the
port used by the script to transfer the data from amiga-news.de and the file the
data are written to. The following variables define some values for time and
date. In the example comes a list with names of months next that are later needed
for generating the HTML text.
Now the actual program begins. The script gets the headlines every six hours from amiga-news.de. A shorter period of time shouldn't be chosen because of performance reasons. Otherwise data would be pulled too often from the server
and unnecessarily increase the data transfer. If the data are too old the
script opens a connection via port Port 80 (HTTP) to amiga-news.de, transfers the
data and generates the HTML data by using these. If a connection to amiga-news.de
can't be established a corresponding error message will appear.
The script now read line by line the data -- the format of the amiga.news.de
headlines can be found in listing 4. If the script hits the string %%
(beginning of a message) it starts the evaluation of the data. The first line in
the headline is the title -- it is read into a corresponding variable
($headline). Then follows the link to the message -- it goes to $headlink. After
that follow date and time.
In our case only the date is of interest for us. That's why the back part of the
data is simply cut with the strtok command. The space between date and time is the
parting sign.
In the example we want always summarize the news of a day and place the date
before it. For that reason the program is testing the date -- if it's empty it
becomes the current date. With explode the year, month and day are parted into
single strings (parting sign is a hyphen -- see listing 4). Then is the string
for the output of the current date assembled. A non-breakable space is set at
the beginning so that the date is inserted a little bit and the tag for the bold
print (<B>) is set.
Now follow the day, the month and the year. In this step are also the
predefined month names inserted (see beginning of the listing). At the end there
has to be a </B> to deactivate the bold mode (bold print).
With the following if-clause the program tests whether the last read data
($current_date) is greater than the obtained one ($akdate). If this is the
case a new date line for HTML has to be generated, as the next message comes
from the previous day. Here is the advantage of the automatic type conversion
in PHP used. When comparing with »greater« PHP interpretes the string as number.
If $current_date is not greater than $akdate there's simply an empty string
allocated for $ak_date.
Hint: The variable $akdate has two functions in the script - it is used as memory for the date obtained by amiga-news.de and later on used for the date line in the HTML code.
When the date line is done the HTML code for the headline with link is being
generated. At the beginning is the date integrated. Is the headline from the
same day as in the line before this string is set to »empty« during the date
comparison in the upper part -- no date is inserted. After that the program
writes the generated HTML line into th local news file. This is done until all
lines of the headline file have been read. The local data file will then be
closed and the connection to the server of amiga-news.de will be closed.
In the last part of the script is the integration of the news file (that already
contains HTML code) into the website done. The server then sents this part to
the client.
The presented solutions can in principe already be integrated in the own
website. But it contains almost no text formatting. During the assembling of the
string for the date the text is set to bold in the example -- but you can here
also change the font size (font tag). You can built a table, too, and feed the
other data (time, rubric, editor) into the list.

Jobs: Bonehead Development - help wanted
Newly founded Bonehead Development needs help for High-End Amiga game.
Yes, thats right! The newly founded game developer Bonehead
Development is seeking help for their new and first project. We need all
kind of people working with us and don't think twice about sending in your
work to us. Please mail us soon!
Wer are a very small group of people who want to aim high on the
gaming market with our first project called "Z-Squad" which is a mix of
horror, 3d action, humour, beat 'em up, and strategy. We are early in
development, in fact that early that we need help to get it going and we
need GFX artists, coders, sketch artists, musicians, sound artists, and
maybe some more. We hope that the game will be released both to Amiga
and PC, cause we're seeing very serious in the matter and were not doing it
out of good will. In other words, if there's no money there's no game. We
want your work, but please don't mail us your 20MB demo before letting us
know, cause our mail-server is a bit slow.
PS: It's an advantage if you live in
Sweden, but no demand. So now, send us your work and we will answer all
of those who will mail us.

Graphic Adventure Engine: Inga Beta
Timo Kloss wrote:
The developer pack for the graphic adventure engine 'Inga' was
finished, more or less. Thus I'm now wanting beta testers.
Since the engine itself was not finished, yet, testing will focus
the tools and manual. The following shall be checked:
- Are the developer programs bug-free?
- Do these run on any machine?
- Are there suggestions for the tools?
- Is the manual complete and plain?
- Of course also the runability of the engine shall be tested.
If you are interested, please contact
Timo@inutilis.de and provide close information
about your configuration (hardware, software, versions, etc.)
The people elected will then receive the developer pack as digital version, only,
(that is to say without the printed manual, but with a text file) and are enabled to purchase
it at the half price on release. You will be allowed to go on using the digital version, anyway.
The developer pack runs on: AmigaOS V3.0+, CPU 68020+, graphics board with CyberGraphX.

Emulation: CD32 emulation for Windows (update)
The first CD32 emulator for Windows, the CD32 Games Install
Kit, was just released on the Airsoft Softwair homepage. This
emulator works in connection with the famous WinUAE. Exactly
like in the Amiga version, patches are applied to every single
game. This gives a very good compatibility. Even digital CD audio
is already supported. However you will require a custom version
of the WinUAE which can be downloaded from my web page.
Currently the CD32 Games Install Kit for Windows is only available
for owners of the The Best Of Airsoft Softwair Gold Edition CD-ROM
(download it in the protected update area!).
Update 08. July 2001:
Andreas Falkenhahn wrote in the German comments on this message:
I have had implemented some functions for CD audio handling in the custom version
of WinUAE. Indeed those only can be utilized by my sub-system Install2001 which runs on
the Amiga part, thus I don't know if the WinUAE team would like to have those functions
in every official release. I will inquire it, anyway. But like already told, without
Install2001, so without the Install Kit, those functions are just useless....

AmigaOS: AmigaSDL
The cross platform handling of games and multimedia applications is
often very difficult. There's a great number of libraries that are supposed to
close this gap. Among them SDL (Simple Directmedia Layer) seems to come out
as the probably most elegant and best supported project of this kind. Thanks to
the latest work of long standing Amiga developer Gabriele Greco there's now an
AmigaOS port of SDL available.
In his article (title link) John Chandler wrote on Suite101.com why SDL may
probably be the best solution in cross platform programming for the AmigaOS and
delivers some links.

File Cutter serves to split files. You can e.g. split a file of 8MB (animation,

Fonts: new Fontutility ports / dictionaries wanted
On my homepage (and soon on aminet, too) can two new ports of font utilities be
found that will be of use for the DTP interested and the font freaks.
"ttf2pt1" converts TrueType fonts into the Postscript format for use in
Pagestream, FinalWriter, Drawstudio, etc. and bases on the latest source codes.
"afm2pfm" converts between Postscript fontmetric files. Despite the archive's
name it's also possible to convert from PFM files to AFM files. Both programs
can be found in the "Font Utilties" area of my website, additionally there's a
PowerPC version for WarpOS available of "ttf2pt1".
Furthermore I'm looking for German language dictionary files of all kind (term
definitions, thesaurus, foreign word dictionary, ...) for my new project. In
contrary to the English there seems to be a real lack in the German speech area,
at least regarding free, documented formats. If anybody owns such files or some
Duden software out of the PC library series (or something similar) I'd be
thankful if he/she would contact me via email.

Universal-Filter V2.1 Update for PageStream 3.x/4.x
A new version 2.1 of the PageStream universal filter was released.
This free universal filter enables PageStream to load many graphic formats,
BME or HHV.
This new version fixes a v2.0 filter problem in loading pictures with colour palettes, which
could crash PageStream or HHV. It is strongly suggested to install this update.
Beside of the above fix some more small things were enhanced (e.g. new pnglib, lower stack
requirement). Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to finish the support for the PhotoShop
format. :-(

Compiler: vbcc V0.8
Volker Barthelmann released version 0.8 of his portable ANSI-C compiler 'vbcc'.
This compiler is open source. There are backends for m68k, PPC, i368, DEC Alpha, c16c,
and HC12. Program code for AmigaOS, several Unix variants, and Windows can be
generated.
The archive released for Amiga computers contains the compiler, preprocessor, assembler,
linker, frontend, message browser, startup codes, C libraries, amiga.lib, replacements,
as well as several other tools for generating code for AmigaOS/68k, WarpOS, PowerUp, and
MorphOS.
Most of the tools (but not all of them) are available as binaries runnable on 68k Amigas
or PPC Amigas with WarpOS or PowerUp.
The following has changed since the prior Amiga version:
- Bugfix: several bugs fixed in compiler, optimizer, tools, and libraries.
- Changed: enhanced generating of code.
- Changed: enhanced optimization, incl. inter-procedural-,
cross-module-optimization and alias-analysis.
- New: some c99 features supported:
- long long
- flexible array-members as a structure's last element
- mixing of statements and declarations
- declarations inside of the for-loop
- inline function-specifier
- restrict-qualifier
- Vararg-Makros.
- _Pragma
- increased translation-limits.
- stdint.h
- New: Stack check as well as measurement of the stack size required.
- New: Documentation in PDF- and HTML format.
- New: New Attributes like '__amigainterrupt' and '__section'.
- New: New #pragmas for PPC like 'amiga-align', etc.
- New: Inline-headers for the WarpOS PPC-native-libraries.
- New: (Backend-specific) pre-defined makros.
- Changed: Enhanced libraries and headers.
- Changed: New versions of Frank Wille's assemblers and linkers.
- New: Use of a built-in preprocessors.
- New: MorphOS support.
The developer kit runs on AmigaOS 2.0 and above with at least 1 MB RAM.
But to compile bigger programs definite more RAM is required.
To compile Amiga programs the AmigaOS includes are required in addition
(Developer-CD by Amiga, Geek Gadgets CD, and similar).

Music: Inutilis News about Moonlight
Timo Kloss wrote:
There are two new listening patterns of Moonlight. These are about extracts
from the songs "Fallen Angel 2" and "Night", which do NOT originate from
test recordings, but from the original CD versions! This music mainly was
created on an Amiga.
Since I don't have enough web-space, I only can offer two patterns at once.
To enable an overview regardless, the songs will be changed about every second
week.
inutilis.de now has got a new start page containing
an advertising banner, too. You might be right, if you think that inutilis will be
infested with advertising, now, but there will be Moonlight banners on many other
pages in return. So please, forgive me!

Apple puts Power Mac G4 Cube on hold
Apple Press information:
Feldkirchen, Germany, 4. July 2001: Apple will put on hold the production of the
Power Mac G4 Cube for an indefinitely time. Even though there is little
chance to re-introduce this unique computer by an all around renewed model,
there are currently not plans to do so.
"Owners of a Cube love this computer, but most of the customers decided in favour of
a Power Mac G4 mini-tower, instead", said Phil Schiller, vice president, worldwide product
marketing, of Apple.
The Power Mac G4 Cube, only 25% as big as a common PC, represented a completely new class of
computers: the power of a super-computer in a 8-inch-cube hanging inside of a glassy casing.

New PC Emulator: First Beta-Version available

The first official beta version of a new pc-emulator is now available
for download at the title link. The program emulates an XT with 8086 CPU
and textmode. There are a 68000, 68020 and a PPC-version. Two disc drives
and a harddisk are currently support as imagefiles.
The emulator was tested with TurboC 2.0, Borland C++ 2.0,
Turbo Pascal 5.0, Norton Commander, LHA, ARJ and PKZIP. Topicaly
they are working on the graphic support, at least for CGA-modes.
I have to mention that this emulator is a complete new program and not
just a port of a program existing on another platform. This means that
a further development depends on my own motivation and the interest
of the users. Please feel free to report bugs and indications.

time for more than a quarter. Sorry!
But now we found a co-worker Kai Stegemann to help with the further development
of the database. More help is always welcome - just send an e-mail to
GeoWorld@bigfoot.com.
Until 15. August 2001 GeoWorld v1.12 is also available from the
Amiga Arena
at the special summer price .

CDTV: Pictures of the CDTV CR
On 29. June 2001 the website of the 'The Commodore CDTV Information Center' was
updated. An archive of pictures of the CDTV CR was added.
The CDTV CR (cost reduced) was designed in 1992 and bases on the Amiga 600.
Contrary to the other cost reduced Amiga models, each basing on it's original
machine, the CDTV CR therefore is to be an exception since this version represents a
completely new design.
The CDTV CR is equipped with a PCMCIA slot replacing the memory card slot of
the CDTV.
More information are to find on the

Game test: F19 Stealth Fighter (second test report)
At 'The Amiga Games Database'
Angus Manwaring released a second test of the flight simulator 'F19 Stealth Fighter' by
Micropose.
This game offers different missions, 3D graphics with many objects in a not that
high resolution, and as a special feature the Stealth-Indicator. This factor among other things
depends on flight attitude and speed, and indicates how invisible you are at the moment.
This makes it an important feature for your own tactic.

Game: BabeAnoid Demo V1.1
Richard Fhager released a demo version of his Breakout game
'BabeAnoid', a graphically emotive designed game offering
numerous features.
Development of this game started in Summer 1995. Meantime - after
many further development and changes - 3,000 to 4,000 hours of work
have been spend to develop the game. Only some level designs are missing
to finally finish the game. But Richard Fhager wants to release the
finished game only after he received enough
feedback, e.g.
in form of suggestions how to enhance it.
Features:
+30 Different Bonuses (Balls, Bats, Weapons, BonusLetters, Lemmings!..etc)
6 different Balls (Normal, Plasma, Shield, Fly, Rubber & Spike)
Bats: 5 Sizes, Help-bat, Gold-bat (That will survive one enemy hit)
Blocks: Moveable, Walls, Multi-hit, Lamps, Invisible, Round, Spawn etc...
Weapons: Cannon and Laser (To use against enemies)
Many Enemies: Tank, Invader, Morpher, Blocker and Enemy bat.
2 Teleporter sets, 2 hit-all-switches-to-open-gate sets.
Fruit-bonuses to pickup, X-tra balls that gives more points for each save.
Lemmings that can catch a ride with the ball(!) or be saved by the bat.
Expandable ScoreBoard and Minimum-Batsize by using MegaBonus-system.
Bonus-game by collecting letters B-O-N-U-S.
Roofs, One-way zones, Pinball-like slides, Speed-zones, Bumps etc...
The game uses 32 colours (ECS) and was developed to require an Amiga with
68020 and 2MB FastRAM as a minimum equipment. If the settings are lowered
it should also run on an Amiga with only 1MB ChipRAM.

Filesystem: Workaround for SFS V1.84 on nearly filled-up partitions
Thomas Igracki wrote:
Using this little program one can change the size of a file.
This is very handy if one uses the SmartFilesystem and suddenly cannot delete
files, any more ('Disk is full' error pops up).
This is a known bug of SFS (V1.84) which occurs on partitions which are nearly filled-up.
What else this program is in aid of: I don't know. ;-)
Well, using this program one is able to delete files on such a partition, again. One
just shortens any desired file on that partition (e.g. to 10 bytes) and deleting works, again.
This way for example: SetFileSize <file name> 10
I have to say thank you to Neil Williams for the information about that shortening a file
'fixes' this bug.
Thank you!
Download: SetFileSize.lha,
and soon on Aminet in '/disc/misc'.

Editor's Thoughts and Introduction:
It's hard to believe it's already the end of June. This has been a
busy year, and there's lots more to come. We have a wide variety of
items in this issue, mostly positive. There is yet another
controversy involving the firm ElBox. We hope we present both sides of
the story below. As Editor, I'd rather not even include items such as
these but feel it necessary in order to present the news as it exists
in the Amiga community.
... and that brings up a question I'd like to ask the readers.
Recently, Amiga Inc. announced their "Party Pack" sale. This sale ran
for such a short time, it's now over. The only way we could have
gotten the news to the readers before it was no longer news would have
been to distribute a special issue. We have never done special issues
for sales. Many Amiga dealers have sales from time to time, and to
distribute these as news would really be to turn Amiga Update into
nothing more than a sales brochure. That's not our mission. But ...
should we in the future make exceptions for specials from Amiga Inc.?
I'd be interested in hearing from the readership on this one, as I'm
not really sure what the right approach is. If you have an opinion,
please drop a _short_ note to amigaupdate@globaldialog.com or
amigaupdate@theropod.org and share it with us.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank the group who took over
development of YAM. This is a great program and its passing would be a
tremendous loss to the Amiga community. Thanks much! You can find YAM
at http://www.yam.ch/, where the following notice gives the latest
good news:
o 08-Jun-2001: The YAM Open Source Team proudly presents YAM 2.3.
This new release fixes many bugs and adds some frequently requested
features like SMTP-AUTH and PGP multipart support. Source code is
included!
A suggestion? A feature to strip html out of incoming mail. Recent
changes in the way AOL handles mail has made it almost impossible to
deal with mail from people who use that service! Okay, I'll stop
dreaming now.
We hope you enjoy this issue.

Hello Lan,
The story you included is quite old (and its headline contained a
typo, I see - shame on me!). A lot has happened to Genesis since
February of 1999. The last I recall hearing, the program had been sold
by the original developers. I thought, but am not certain, that it
stopped being available some time ago. Perhaps some of our readers
have current informaiton about Genesis and its PPP implementation and
can let us know.

Greetings To The Amiga Family:
There have been some recent mis-representations that I have recently
received about Amiga, Inc., and our office locations. Amiga is doing
very well, and we are excited about the future of Amiga. The Amiga
Family continues to grow with new partners, new products, and the very
near release of AmigaDE 1.0.
However with all of this activity there have been some out there who
have recently sent out false information about Amiga, and I need to
clarify this now.
Amiga Incorporated in headquartered in Snoqualmie, Washington USA.
Amiga Deutschland is still in business. We have only closed the
Langen office. There are going to be some new additions, and a new
office location announced in the next couple of weeks, but know now
that Amiga International was a Gateway company, and was not and has
not been associated with Amiga, Inc. since 1999. The dealer in Germany
that is making claims that they are Amiga International is completely
false, and Amiga Incorporated the parent company of Amiga Deutschland
is going to take legal action against those who make these false
claims.
There is another dealer in India who has started claiming that they
are Amiga in India. This again is also false. Amiga does NOT have any
official representation in India outside of the Amiga dealers who are
there. Amiga Incorporated is currently evaluating an office in India,
and other countries where we do business.
To those of you who continue to try and tear Amiga apart, it is time
to stop. Amiga is moving forward, there are great things ahead, and
for the first time in many years, the Amiga family will have new
products, and choices.
I look forward to a great year.
Kindest regards,
Bill McEwen

"Announcing: The Third Annual AmigaFest - The Show Within a Show at
the Dayton Computerfest."
Although summer has just begun, it's already time to plan for the
fall Dayton Computerfest. And once again we have been asked to host
the AmigaFest area of the show. The AmiTech-Dayton Amiga Users Group
want to bring you, the Amiga users and vendors, together for an end of
summer celebration of all things Amiga. Over the past two years, many
present and former Amiga users have stopped by our exibitors tables to
buy, sell, and trade Amiga hardware and software, as well as to swap
stories and experiences like only Amiga people can. We also we wil be
having a dinner get-together after closing on Saturday after the show
closes for the day. This pay-as-you-go gathering has proved to be
popular, and we will have exact arrangements to announce as we get
closer to the show date.
The setting for this festival is the Dayton ComputerFest, one of the
largest shows of it's kind in the world. Everything about his show is
BIG!
over 125,000 square feet of computers and supplies. nearly 900
exhibitors. over 35,000 people will attend during the two days of the
show. one of the most diverse assortments of hardware, software and
accessories to be found under one roof.
Won't you consider joining us? If you'd like to be an exhibitor, the
rates are as follows:
Tables are $55 if reserved by June 24th, each additional table will
be $75. After June 24th, table prices rise to $60 for the first, and
$90 for each additional.
Contact: Ron Schwartz - schwartr@gemair.com
or: Len Carsner - nard@erinet.com
we'll get the process rolling with the ComputerFest co-ordinators.
If you would like to conduct a seminar, please contact us to arrange
seminar room reservation at no cost to you.
The Dayton ComputerFest is a great place to introduce computer
products of all nature. Dayton has a rich computer community, with a
large computer user network, an organised IT association, and one of
the most active Linux groups in the nation. It makes sense to exhibit
in a location where you can reach so many for so little expense.
As we get closer to show time, we will update you on who you can
expect to see. Also we will post traveling instuctions and available
lodging for attendees.
Attention Amiga Vendors: while we hope you will choose to join us, we
understand that many are unable to attend due to distance. We hope you
will chose to show your support by making a donation to our prize
drawing. With the retirement of Petro Tyschtschenko earlier this year,
we cannot count on Amiga Inc. for support this year. Anything you
could do for us would be apperciated and acknowledged to the crowd.
Don't delay! Contact us NOW! The only Amiga get-together in the
Midwest is less than 90 Days away! Make plans now to join in on a
great time at a great show! AmigaFest - The Show Within A Show is THE
place to be in August!

Snoqualmie, 16 June, 2001 - Amiga Inc and Matay company are pleased
to announce they are co-operating on a series of initiatives that will
see the AmigaOS4 family of operating systems running on Matay's
existing and future products.
At the St Louis show in April, Amiga announced the continued
development of AmigaOS, with AmigaOS4 moving AmigaOS3 to modern
hardware and preparing the way for AmigaOS5. AmigaOS5 will be targeted
at both the home server and the desktop/workstation markets.
"In developing AmigaOS4.0, we have been making extensive use of the
Prometheus PCI bridge board, to get a head start on developing drivers
for the various sub systems whilst we wait for the Eyetech AmigaOne to
be completed," said Fleecy Moss, CTO of Amiga Inc. "The quality of
both their product and support, and their commitment to the future of
the Amiga has made working with them a pleasure, and we look forward
to this co-operation intensifying over the next few years."
"We are very excited to work with Amiga Inc., the company that leads
our community into the new technological revolution. In the incoming
years, we will witness a breakthrough in digital home appliances, a
trend to abandon a single computer workstation in favour of several
smaller, yet more user-friendly devices. The revolution is coming,
though we need to prepare for it, like the Amiga market needs
transition from our classic computers to new technologies and
standards. Amiga Inc. is the company that foresees these trends and
enters the digital future today. We are proud that our Prometheus
board, the first Zorro III PCI bridge for Amiga, helps them in making
these plans come true," said Filip Dab- Mirowski, CEO of Matay
company. "We will continue co-operation with Amiga Inc., not only
providing them with hardware solutions for today Amiga market but also
working together on products for the future digital market."
About Amiga:
Amiga Inc is a privately held Seattle based digital solutions company
that revolutionised computing in 1984 with the introduction of the
A1000, and has consistently been at the cutting edge of the digital
revolution ever since. Currently it offers a complete solution for
digital living, the AmigaDE (Digital Environment) which provide a
device and OS (host) agnostic, universal, scalable content platform
for OEMs and IHVs, consumers, producers and brokers of digital
content, and the AmigaOS, a 68k and PPC based desktop, workstation and
digital server platform for the most demanding of activities. The
AmigaDE is currently being deployed on a variety of major cell phone,
PDA, Set Top Box, Console, Digital Appliance and existing personal
computer platforms. AmigaOS4 is expected to be launched in 3Q2001,
running on the new AmigaOne computer. For further information, please
email press@amiga.com, support@amiga.com or telephone (US) 425 396

About Matay:
Matay company is a privately held computer business oriented company.
It was founded in 2000 as an Amiga-only software dealer and in a very
short time earned trust of Polish Amiga users. With the introduction
of Prometheus PCI bridge for Zorro III equipped Amigas, Matay has
extended its offer with hardware solutions for the Amiga platform and
professional electronic design of printed-circuitboards. Now, with the
announcement of close co-operation with Amiga Inc., Matay enters a
domain of digital appliances, which is predicted to be the future of
home and business computing around the world. For more information,

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
After speaking to the friendly organizers of AmiWest and receiving
many e-mails regarding our Ottawa Amiga Show dates of July 28 and 29,
we have decided to move the Amiga show, despite the overwhelming
majority of users who voted in favour of the show on those dates. Once
we have confirmed a date for the Ottawa Amiga Show we will let every
one know (likely September 8 and 9, 2001). We would love to hear from
everyone with suggestions for the show. As information becomes
available, it will be posted on the show's website
(http://www.technomages.net/amigashow/).
Many Amiga users expressed their concerns of forcing people and
vendors to choose which show to attend. This was not our intention. We
initially projected that only people who lived within a few hours
drive to Ottawa would attend our show, with everyone else attending
AmiWest. We apologize for any inconvenience and confusion this may
have caused.
If you would like to be kept up to date on show announcements, send
an email to oas-subscribe@technomages.net and you will be subscribed
to the show's mailing list.
On the weekend of July 28-29 we may have a BBQ for Amiga users who
are interested in doing something. No vendors vending, just users
around the BBQ talking about our favorite computer, and perhaps about
the Ottawa Amiga Show. Keep an eye on the Amiga.info
(http://www.technomages.net/amiga.info/) website for more information
regarding the BBQ.
Please attend the AmiWest 2001 show and have a great time. For more
information regarding AmiWest, point your browser to

We wish to thank everyone for their comments regarding the show
dates. We hope to see many of you at the Ottawa Amiga Show.
Sincerely,
The Amiga Ottawa Show Team

Merlancia Industries is pleased to announce a strategic relationship
with 'individual Computers'; to design a controller device that will
be utilised on our Torro series systems.
The device, a custom chip controller, named 'CLeo' will be available
as an add-on kit for the Pilot release systems (to be included with
all systems shipping after it's release, and to be sent to all
developer systems sold before-hand).
The 'CLeo" custom device is based on technology first implemented in
individual Computers' 'CatWeasel' disc controller, and will allow the
reading and writing of Amiga native disc formats (880k and 1760k) on
our Tsunami system as well as future directives. Other formats will be
supported as well including PC-DOS, and Macintosh-HFS.
We expect to have a prototype of this design at AmiWest Conference
(28th to 29th July 2001- Sacramento, CA; USA) as well as our prototype
Pilot system.

29th June 2001
Merlancia Open letter to the Amiga Community by Ryan E. A.
Czerwinski, CEO of Merlancia Industries
Greetings to all. We are happy that the Amiga community is taking a
deep and serious interest in our products and what we are working on
in the background! We will be releasing some more critical information
to answer your questions soon, however, we are currently gagged until
some other contracts are completed.
I assure you all that welcomed good news is ahead...in fact, look
forward to a feature article about us in an upcoming issue of
AmigaActive magazine, where we hope to answer many of your questions.
We are currently looking for those that are interested in developing
for our system(s). (As the Tsunami will only be the *first* system we
are releasing.)
To answer some common questions that have been asked:
Re bPlan:
Yes, we are working with bPlan on the Tsunami design. The details of
this partnership are due out soon. Let it be said that we are
designing hardware, not just sitting idle and waiting for others to do
our work for us. We have very talented people on staff, both software
and hardware (not to mention press relations and marketing) and we are
spending our $$$ wisely.
Release dates:
The Tsunami system is expected to be released in it's final consumer
form in November to December 2001. We are working very hard to meet
this deadline, though we cannot foresee any problems that may arise.
The Pilot release will most likely be after the AmiWest conference,
not at as we had hoped, as we are currently having a slight fault in
the gfx display; We will have a demonstration system at the show. We
plan to have a press conference as well as other 'events' at AmiWest,
and we hope that there is a large amount of Amigans that think it wise
to attend. ;)
We need your talents!:
We are looking for both software and hardware developers. A platform
like this cannot succeed without a full range of software to run on
it. Sure, the current software will run on our system, but we need a
full library of up-to-date software, both multimedia and business
applications, to be able to achieve our place in the market.
We have already received orders for developer systems from some very
impressive firms and individuals. We hope to grab up as much talent as
possible, as it makes sense to have PowerPC software for new PowerPC
hardware. We are looking for both the absurdly simple (tiny games or
utilities) to the fairly complex (graphics packages, office suites)
software titles. AN option will be available to have your software
included with each unit sold, or special unit packages.
AmigaOS 4/5:
We are unfortunately unable to release details on this currently,
however, we hope to do so shortly; most likely at the AmiWest
conference.
Let it be said currently that our system both meets and exceeds the
Zico specification,as do all of our 'in development' systems.
Our market:
We are designing our Torro systems to be a natural complete system
solution upgrade path for current Amiga users (see examples of how/why
below) but we are not limiting our products to the current Amiga
market or community. We anticipate high sales volumes to the consumer
and industrial multimedia markets; Our systems are designed to be as
CHRP resembling as possible. We are pitting them against the big names
like Apple and SGI.
Our partnership with Blittersoft was only the first step in this
process- Working together on the iFusion project will allow us to
migrate iFusion to our systems easily, allowing full Macintosh
compatibility on our products, both under AmigaOS and stand-alone
(later). We are also planning on offering other OS solutions as
separate packages including QNX, Linux, Solaris, BeOS (hopefully), and
others. We cannot provide MacOS ourselves, but the user will have the
option of installing it, and we will also be working on an x86
emulator so that if the user desires he/she can use x86 operating
systems including UNiX, Linux-x86, BeOs-x86, and (gasp!) even MS
Windows (though we won't support it directly).
We are also working on a firmware OS (think what Exec is to Amiga)
that allows not only selection of startup devices via an 'early
startup' screen, but also setting up multiple machine states that can
be launched with ease and switched between instantly. (Thus allowing
multiple OSs to be run at once.) This may not be included with the
first launch, but an updater will be available to patch the firmware,
which is flash updatable. Speaking of which, your machine state
setting will be able to be saved, as well as your other setting,
including screen mode and startup volume (individual to each machine
state), thus allowing you to start up with those options each time you
reboot.
Why is it a natural upgrade path?:
Unlike other machines promised in the past, and other projects in the
works, we are working on something that will be completely natural to
the Amiga user of today. Features like the ability to read and write
to floppy discs and other media in native Amiga formats (880k and
1760k on floppy discs) as well as simple things like the layout of the
keyboard and the look and feel of the design of the system all around
all total up to Amiga-like. We are trying to make a product that is
impressive from the inside and out, not just another `box'. Not to say
that all offerings that are currently being made are bad. in fact, i
look forward to the EyeTech AmigaOne. I know I will buy one
personally, and our retail division will carry them. (We have the
world's largest stock of A1200 NTSC systems; other dealers are now
ordering them from us.)
The future and beyond:
What lies in store for us, the Amiga community? I can't say for sure,
but I feel that the future is brighter than ever due both to the
commitment from Amiga ( a lively bunch of bright and intelligent
individuals) as well as out commitment to you, the Amiga community. As
always, you come first in our thinking and our product design. This
product is designed for you; We wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't.
As always, best wishes to everyone. Thank you for being a customer,
current, or future.
Cheers,
Ryan E. A. Czerwinski

A M I G A O N E T I M E T A B L E F R O M E Y E T E C H
Updated 27 June 2001
It's now several months since this timeline was last updated as most
of the day-to-day news items have been posted to the
http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/amigaone mailing list. However lots
of things have happened since we launched the AmigaOne project which
have had an influence on the specification of the final product and
therefore the timetable leading up to delivery.
The main change has undoubtedly been the decision by Amiga to use the
current Amiga OS as the basis for a home server solution and as an
alternative (to Windows and Linux) hosting environment for the Amiga
DE.
This has meant that when it is first launched the AmigaOne 1200 will
be a substantially improved product to what was originally envisaged.
The majority of the improvements come from Amiga's commitment to
develop OS4.0 specifically to run on the AmigaOne-1200 at launch. This
is far more than the 'fixed' version of OS3.9 that was originally
envisaged (pending the development of the native PPC Amiga DE
implementation that was originally planned). The new OS4.0 will come
with a high performance file system, virtual memory, high performance
PPC-native TCP/IP stack, 1GB main memory support, UDMA IDE and SCSI
and ethernet drivers and Picasso96 2D retargetable drivers for VooDoo3
PCI/AGP and Matrox G450 PCI/AGP & G550 AGP only graphics cards.
Warp3D/Mesa 3D drivers will also be shipped with the first release of
OS4.0.
Sound card (with Paula emulation), USB (keyboard and mouse) drivers
will follow as downloadable updates - ie you wont have to wait until
OS4.2 (which we don't expect to ship until mid 2002) for these
facilities.
The whole AmigaOne-1200 project is suddenly much bigger and very much
better as a result. The small downside however is that during the
several weeks leading up to the OS4.x announcement (at St Louis at the
beginning of April) and more particularly since then, we and Amiga Inc
have had to redirect much of our efforts to carefully defining,
planning and allocating tasks and responsibilities to OS4.0
development and integration with the A1-1200. The extra work involved
has also, inevitably, meant that timeframes have slipped. Although
this has also meant that the end time for hardware delivery has moved
back actual progress has, so far, been ahead of plan with the
development currently looking like it will come in at less than the
estimate for elapsed engineering time. As reported earlier in the
AmigaOne FAQ's, beta testers will not now be needed for the hardware
which is being independantly tested/validated as development
progresses.
As most people probably know, Continental Europe (where most of the
AmigaOne and OS4.0 development is being carried out) closes in August,
making it a bad time for beta testing and the associated feedback. As
you'll see below, application software/OS4.0 beta test boards are
therefore now scheduled for release at the beginning of September.
Manufacture of production AmigaOne1200 boards will now start in mid
September, and be released for distribution as soon as OS4.0 is signed
off for release in early October.

Warp 3D for ELBOX
Please note our explanations in reference to comments appearing in
various news lists and concerning the date of sending a Warp3D offer
to Elbox Computer. Someone is spreading false information on behalf of
Hyperion in this reference.
As we have informed, the FIRST Warp 3D V4 offer was sent to Elbox
Computer on Friday 25 May 2001 at 22:29 CET.
On Tuesday 22 May 2001, Elbox Computer was informed ONLY about the
change in the Warp3D status. The following text was included in the
end of this statement:
"In the upcoming weeks we will be approaching all hardware developers
with concrete and fair proposals which allow for very moderate
compensation for Warp 3D V4 support."
After 3 days, on Friday 25 May night, the announced offer was sent to
Elbox Computer. However, there were no contract details in it, only
the suggested price was given.
Since Monday, 28 May 2001, Elbox Computer is in touch with Hyperion
and discussing the offer.
I hope to have dispelled all the fog concerning the date when we
received the offer in question.

as the facts have already been made public, this is no longer a business
secret.

Hi!
Hyperion Entertainment has decided to change the Status of Warp3D
slightly because of the current market situation. Please find attached
to this mail an explanation of these changes.
For further questions, please contact Ben Hermans
(mailto:LegendConsulting@netscape.net), Managing partner of Hyperion
Entertainment.
Thanks for your time.

--------
We want to inform you that after extensive deliberation, Hyperion
Entertainment has decided to upgrade the status of Warp 3D V4 from a
freeware product to a commercial OEM product which will offered to
Amiga hardware developers.
This decision was prompted by two major reasons:
1. Hyperion Entertainment has reached an agreement with Amiga Inc. to
incorporate Warp3D V4 into Amiga OS 4.x on a per unit royalty basis.
Producers of zico compliant hardware (Amiga One etc.) will be required
to license Amiga OS 4.x and will as such be paying indirectly for Warp
3D V4 drivers. It is unacceptable to both Amiga Inc. and these
hardware producers that they would be required to pay royalties for a
product which other hardware producers would receive free of charge.
2. Warp 3D started out as a freeware product developed by
non-commercial developers to support the Virge and Permedia 2
chipsets. Compared to current chipsets the Virge and Permedia 2 are
extremely primitive and feature-poor. The effort and time needed to
adequately support modern chipsets such as the Voodoo 3 and Matrox
G450 with their rich and advanced feature-set is far greater than the
effort required to support the Virge and Permedia 2 chipsets.
As the original Warp 3D developers have now moved on to commercial
development, maintaining Warp 3D as a freeware product would entail
that development of new Warp 3D drivers and extension of the Warp 3D
API would be very slow as development could only take place "after
hours".
This is not only not in the interest of Amiga users but it is also
not in the interest of hardware producers and resellers who rely on
the availability of Warp 3D drivers to successfully sell their Amiga
hardware.
Hyperion Entertainment fully understands that the company has a
responsibility towards the Amiga community including the hardware
producers because of its control over the Warp 3D API and no attempt
has ever been made or will be made to exploit this position unfairly.
In the upcoming weeks we will be approaching all hardware developers
with concrete and fair proposals which allow for very moderate
compensation for Warp 3D V4 support.
As we know that market conditions in the Amiga market have been hard
for everyone including hardware producers, Hyperion Entertainment is
even willing to accept payment in kind (hardware).
Best regards,
{Note: the document as we obtained it stopped at this point, without a
name. Brad}

"Elbox and Hyperion did NOT come to an agreement about licensing
Voodoo 3drivers because Elbox insisted that the Mediator 1200 would be
the very first PCI solution to be supported (of all PCI boards on the
market regardless for which machine A1200 or A4000).
There never was discussion about delivery dates.
The fact of the matter was that Elbox wanted us to do something which
was clearly impossible both practically and legally.
Practically: we can't "unsupport" the Matay Prometheus PCI solution.
Drivers are shipping with the Prometheus for some time now and it's
impossible to turn back the hands of time and allow the Mediator 1200
drivers to be shipped first.
Legally: We entered into a legally binding contract with Matay for
driver support. They paid us, Elbox didn't. We cannot legally delay
release of the Prometheus drivers (which are already released anyway)
just because Elbox wants us to. This is a clear breach of contract and
runs contrary to the requirement of good faith which is a general
principle of contract law.
In short, Elbox was trying to impose an impossible condition on us
and as a result we failed to reach agreement about Voodoo 3 drivers.
I have e-mails from several staff members of Elbox to back up these
claims.
Despite numerous attempts we could not convince Elbox that Mediator
1200 users really could care less about the fact that the Voodoo 3
drivers for an A4000 solution were shipping first.
The result is apparently that there won't be any 3D drivers for the
Elbox products unless Elbox drops this ridiculous condition. Or
somebody could invent a time-machine.
As anybody could see at the Benelux show, the Voodoo 3 drivers are
quite ready and could be adapted to the Mediator 1200 in a relatively
short time.
Mediator 1200 users interested in Voodoo 3 drivers should e-mail
Elbox explaining that they don't care if an A4000 PCI busboard is
supported first as long as they can finally get their Mediator 1200
drivers.
The ball is clearly in Elbox's court."

Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce that it has entered
into a license agreement with DCE, producers of the G-REX line of PCI
hardware for the Amiga.
Under the agreement Hyperion will support DCE's G-REX 1200 and G-REX
4000 products with fully featured Warp 3D Voodoo 3 drivers for both
68K and PPC.
« We're very pleased that DCE has decided to respond to demand by its
customers for Warp3D drivers for Voodoo 3 », says Ben Hermans,
managing partner of Hyperion Entertainment . « Amiga users currently
have quite a number of PCI solutions to chose from and the
manufacturers offering the widest range of drivers for their PCI
solutions will clearly have a competitive advantage. From the large
number of e-mails we have received, we can only conclude that the
availability of 3D drivers is a key consideration for users when they
make their decision to purchase a specific PCI solution. To avoid
disappointment, we once again urge users interested in 3D graphics to
investigate the availability of Warp3D drivers before purchasing a
specific PCI solution. »

Prometheus PCI expansion for Zorro3 Amigas will be in stock by 25th
June - orders now being taken
For immediate release
We're particularly pleased to have struck a deal with Matay, the
Polish makers of the Prometheus board as it enables A3000/A4000 (both
desktop and tower systems) to gain 4 PCI slots for trading in just one
Zorro slot. The board is shipped with 2D & 3D drivers for VooDoo
graphics cards (also in stock), together with drivers for ethernet and
sound cards, and an complete royalty-free SDK.
It is an incredibly well designed and manufactured board, (guaranteed
for 5 years) and is the first PCI expansion board on any Amiga to get
Hyperion's seal of approval for its 3-D support. A PPC add-in card is
in the pipeline giving a PPC-based forward path for those users who
want to retain Zorro 3 compatibility in their big-box Amigas.
The UK price inc VAT is £199.95 (or 269 euros/239USD, both excluding
VAT).
Specifications are as follows:
General
o Works with any Zorro III equipped Amiga, regardless of the
accelerator/CPU board installed in the system.
o Four 32-bit PCI slots clocked at 33 MHz.
o Fits any tower case and also works with desktop A3000/4000s when
open.
o Works with other Zorro III cards, supports AutoConfig (TM).
o Real transfer rates between Amiga and PCI cards - up to 12 MB/s (a
limitation of the 'Buster' chip)
o Real transfer rates between PCI cards - up to 120 MB/s.
o Additional on-board connector for the power supply.
o Professionally designed four-layer printed circuit board with
gold-plated contacts - complies with the PCI standard specifications.
Drivers
The Prometheus card comes with a CDROM containing:
o Drivers for the Voodoo3 graphics card, developed in close
co-operation with Hyperion and the authors of Picasso96. 2D drivers
work under the P96 system, 3D functions are available through Warp3D.
o Drivers for the the network card. (Sound card drivers will be
available for free download shortly)
o A royalty-free, NDA-free software development kit for programmers.
This is designed to make the Prometheus card the most open PCI bridge
solution as far as the driver development goes.
o Demo versions of games using the 3D functions of the Voodoo3
graphics card: Heretic 2, Shogo, Wipeout 2097.
The package also contains a reference manual (in English, German &
Polish), brackets for the Prometheus and PCI cards and an extension
cable for a graphics card.
Mechanical issues
Due to the wide variety of tower solutions available for Amiga
computers, it was not possible to design the Prometheus to be
mechanically compatible with the card slots of all of them. The
solution was therefore to design the Prometheus as the smallest
possible Zorro 3 card and to provide brackets which hold the PCI cards
to the Prometheus itself. Short cables (supplied) connect the PCI
cards' I/O connectors to the rear panel of the computer case. This
makes the card compatible with all Z3 tower cases that we are aware
of.
It also means that the Prometheus can be used in desktop A3000's an
A4000's, although for these however the case lid cannot be closed with
PCI cards installed.
Other benefits of the Prometheus design approach
o Suitable for 'riser' and 'motherboard' Zorro 3 slots
o Works in conjuction with all CPU daughterboard/accelerator cards
o Where mechanical layout allows, two Prometheus boards (8 PCI slots
in total) can be used simultaneously
o Future use with an be used with an G3/G4 card including 'off-the
shelf' Macintosh types for running OS4.2 and higher.
Prometheus driver CD list
Graphics cards drivers
o Voodoo3 2000
o Voodoo3 3000
o 2D drivers for Picasso96 graphics system
o 3D drivers for Warp3D (full OpenGL support)
Network cards drivers
The prometheus NE2000 device driver should work with all NE2000
compatible PCI network cards, including the following:
Producer Chipset Manufacturer ID Product ID
Realtek RTL8029 $10EC $8029
Compex RL2000 $11F6 $1401

ICS
The Free AmigaOS Scanner Color Calibration Software
ICS allows color calibrating basicly any scanner using scanner
calibration photos (targets). Standard IT 8.7 (ISO 12641), various
Corel and Epson targets are supported. The software can work
independent of any Amiga scanner drivers, but works best with scanner
software directly calling ICS for you (ScanQuix V4 or V5, ScanTrax,
ImageFX, FXScan).
Using the ICS software is fairly easy. Install using the provided
standard Installer program. Scan the calibration photo with your
scanner and generate a scanner profile. The profile can than be
selected in the ICS preferences program and defines the color
correction performed. Also, you can adjust the type of display the
color correction is made for. Once done, further scans with the ICS
enabled scanner driver will automaticly result in perfect scans.
The system requirements of ICS are: Amiga with OS 2.04 or higher.
Next you need a calibration target. For best results, use a
calibration target according to the ANSI IT 8.7/2 (ISO 12641)
standard. These are available from Kodak, Agfa, Fuji or for a very low
price from www.targets.coloraid.de. In case you don't have a target,
you can find generic profiles for various scanners in the
ICSProfiles.lha file listed below. Use them only as last resort until
you do have a real target photo for scanning. Despite the same
brand/model, these generic profiles might not work with your scanner
as each scanner is different!
Following new features have been added to V2 of ICS:
o Now all ICS image reading and writing is done using the new IRW
library
o ICSConvert can now write JPEG, IFF, and TIFF
o ICSConvert and ScanTarget now support 16 bit/channel image data.
o ICSConvert can now read/write embeded ICC color and IPTC/NAA
editorial information
o Now includes tools to extract ICC and IPTC information from images
(IFF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG)
o Spanish localization added
o ICSConvert can now be used as tool for image format conversion.
o IRW does offer improved and localized error handling. Error
requesters now offer detailed information, hints and often also a
Retry function.
o Major speed improvement for loading certain file formats. Also,
memory requirement was reduced.

AmigaWriter-Filter for PageStream 1.1
Written and Copyright ©2000-2001 by Rüdiger Hanke
AmigaWriter-Filter is a new import filter for Soft-Logik's DTP
program PageStream. Click on the thumbnail to the right to see a
screenshot of what it can do!
It consists of two parts:
o The text filter inserts the main flowtext of your AmigaWriter
documents into the current PageStream article with most of its text
formattings.
o The document filter loads your AmigaWriter documents as if they
were native PageStream documents, retaining as much of your original
document as possible.
Applications
AmigaWriter-Filter was designed to
o print AmigaWriter documents to PostScript
o export AmigaWriter documents to PDF
o use AmigaWriter as a WYSIWYG replacement for PageLiner
o ... and anything else you can think of :-))
The filter comes with the usual options you would expect from a
PageStream import filter: it performs typographical conversions for
quotes, dashes and ellipses. In addition, it allows you to choose the
quote format (available are US, French, German and German-French). The
text filter has another option called Apply Styles Only which can be a
great help to achieve consistent layout, especially when several
authors are working on one text.
Download
The AmigaWriter-Filter archive is now available in version 1.1. Minor
and major updates will be available from the website from time to
time, major updates will be uploaded to Aminet.

Virus warning: Bobek2 & Ebola Link Virus found
Another archive that is infected with the 'Bobek2'
link virus has been found. It was on Aminet for a
short time, but is has been removed now. But there
just might be a few more archives out there, so
take care..
Here is some info about the archive:
Archive name : Hjb-DVN2.ha
Archive size : 1.334.619 bytes
Archive info : HJB - Devotion, issue two.
Infected file : Devoprefs
Infected size : 30.492 bytes
Infected with : Bobek2 & Ebola link virus
Note:
The archive is safe to use after removing
the viruses from the Devoprefs file. Use
VirusExecutor, VirusZ & VirusChecker, with
(and this is very important) the xvs.library
v33.26. The correct size after removing the
virus is: 28.340 bytes
The programmer of this archive, was not aware
that his system was infected with virus, but I'm
sure that his system is clean now, we have told him..
So if you have installed or executed this archive,
please check your system for virus.......
In this context also have a look at the Aminet
Message of the day:
- VIRUS ALERT. We've run a complete virus check of Aminet and found the
following infected and otherwise dubious files:
demo/mag/Hjb-DVN2.lha demo/euro/Itchy_3_Germs.lha game/gag/gzus001.lzh,
game/gag/VirusHunter.lzh (the last 3 are pretty harmless). All of those
are recognized by VirusExecutor.lha
- VIRUS ALERT. Some old files (2 years) turned out to be DKG-Blum
infected (not known to us at the time). The files were in demo/aga
and had the names PSY-Hal.lha Psy-tt2.lha PSY-xmas.lha and
PSY-CV.lha . VirusExecutor.lha will detect that virus.
