Interest in a small batch of cheap scan doublers?
amiga.org reader Joe "IOWASURFER" Leto is getting a scan doubler developed for Amiga computers that should cost considerably less than 100 USD. The external adapter (photo of the prototype on an A1000) will support a color depth of 16 bits and should be compatible with all Amiga models.
At present, it is still unclear whether the device will go under (low volume) production, Leto asks for feedback to obtain an impression of the actual demand. (cg) (Translation: cad)

The text may be quoted in part as long as the title link is indicated as the source, since possibly, errors are still present or some touching-up will still be done on the text.
The translation could be accomplished with the friendly support of Hyperion Entertainment VOF, but its use takes place without any guarantee or support, and there is no guarantee of completeness or correctness either. You can find the respective current version under the title link.

AROS for AmigaOS: AfA 4.00 Release Candidate 1
Bernd Rösch has published another update of AROS for AmigaOS (AfA) which is a port of single AROS-components to AmigaOS 3.9. Release Candidate 1 requires the previous version Final Beta. The new files must be copied manually.
Release Candidate 1 fixes all known problems of the previous version and will be published as final version 4.0 if there are not any new bugs. Changes in RC1:
- With "addaudiomodes" you can now choose 44 Khz Paula-Modi, too
- Skins now work with OS 3.1
- Windowtitle now also works if the title line is empty
- Flickering of the screen titles should be fixed on slow systems
- Only users who have installed and used Zune before should use the zune_lib.exe. An update of the Zune-distribution with updated classes will follow.
The author points out that Powericons must not be used with AfA simultaneously. Otherwise there will be instabilities.

Back to the Roots V2.41 - Patch Level 3
Fred Fish's final trip
Today, Saturday, December 1, 2007 the family and close friends
of Fred Fish will meet in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to give Fred
a last "farewell". At 12:00 noon PST (20:00 GMT) Fred's wife
Michelle will spread Fred's ashes in the one place he really
loved, the sea. If you have a minute, and you liked his work,
send him a farewell too - Ashes to ashes, Fish to fish.
Fred Fish Memorial Archive
Since our last update we received quite some missing material,
like Fresh Fish Vol.1 (Rev.1), Fresh Fish Vol.2 and Gold Fish
Vol.3 (single CD version), but we still search missing CDs.
We also received a license from Marty Flickinger who compiled
the "Fish'n'More" for Xetec Inc. CDs to put them online.
Thanks Marty! We start with Fish'n'More Vol.3, and still
search for people who own Vol.1 and Vol.2, plus cover scans
of Vol.3.
Atari CD-ROM archive
Due to the enormous output from the Atari scene we have started
another little side project listing Atari related material we
have online here. Since a while we host two CD series from
Lotek Style aka MC Laser of TSCC, the Atari mods and music
collection "Fading Twilight" which we just added 4 new CDs,
and the demo and scene material collection "No Fragments" which
even got extended by 6 further CDs. Thanks Lotek Style!
Spanish Scene Collections
Another scene with an enourmous output these days is the spanish
scene, so we dedicated it another side project. Besides updating
our mirror of the modulez.org spanish mod scene ftp, we also added
the third CD of the spanish modules compilations Modplanet now.
Finally we added the Spanish Scene compilations by Dargo^LLFB
spanning 5CD and te first Avalon CD by Vago^Avalon Software, all
with spanish scene output. Big thanks go to Fermix^LLFB for this
huge upload!
Initial Music
This in a nice new hosted project by the danish scene musician
The Boss^6th Dimension, which is also planned and prepared since years.
Here you can download game music from early Amiga games covered by our
licenses, transcoded to the MP3 format. This is also a good example
how a hosted site can benefit of this place and its licenses. So far
BTTR had no boss, only team members. Now we have one - The Boss of
6th Dimension. ;-) (snx)

USB-Stack: ANAIIS 0.92
ANAIIS ("Another Native Amiga IO Interface Stack") from Gilles Pelletier is a USB-Stack, which works on systems with a 68000-CPU. The Stack requieres minimal a AmigaOS 1.3 and is design for Zorro 2-Systemes without Accelerator card only.
Changes in Version 0.92:
- Most hub will work now. I have implemented 2.0 mode, but old 1.1 style
doesn't work. Now it's fixed.
- Additional code to simply manage mousewheel. ANAIIS will send 0x7a for
up, 0x7b for down, 0x7c for left and 0x7d for right, as keyboard events. Strange for a mouse!
- ctrl + window key + app menu key = Reset !
- Strange multiselection: Qualifiers key was wrong on repeat state, but
good on key up and key down. Now you can move cursor with keyboard keys.

AROS: Status-Update November 2007
The AROS-Team shows on his Webpage a overview about the changes of the opensource AmigaOS-clon "AROS Research Operating System" (AROS):
AROS has gained lots of bugfixes and improvements in the lastest weeks. For istance, Neil Cafferkey has corrected some important bugs is his beloved AROS Installer; Nic Andrews has worked on his RTL8139 network driver; and Robert Norris has fixed file notifications, which previously broke preferences, just to name three.
Robert Norris has added a SDL driver for linux hosted AROS. This lets you build a hosted AROS that doesn't require X (you don't even need it installed to build anymore). In theory this could help with getting hosted running on other platforms (anywhere SDL exists), however it's a little slower than the X driver.
Matthias Rustler has ported ptplay.library to AROS. It renders Protracker modules into sound samples. Additionally he also ported ShellPlayer, a simple example player. They will be in nightly builds, in Extras/MultiMedia/Audio drawer.
Matthias Rustler also made an initial port of Alain Thellier's Wazp3D to AROS. Wazp3D is a library intended to be compatible with the famous Warp3D.library for AmigaOS 68040, and it makes easier to port some 3D Amiga games to AROS. Wazp3D can also work as a software renderer, fooling applications looking for a 3D hardware driver.
Michal Schulz has made some big steps further with his x86-64 port of AROS. The day of 64 bit AROS computing is getting near. In the meanwhile, Michal added also SSE instructions support to AROS. (cg) (Translation: aj)

Point'n Click Adventure: La Storia Ancestrale
La Storia Ancestrale is a series of four Italian point'n click adventures, which is based on the comic series of the same name. The commercial release of the games, originally planned for the year 1994, was evidently neglected because of the collapsing market. The author is now making available the four titles for free download. (cg) (Translation: cad)

AROS for AmigaOS: AfA 4.00 Final Beta1
Bernd Rösch is making available a final beta version of AROS for AmigaOS (AfA), a port of individual AROS components to AmigaOS 3.9. The author asks for feedback in case certain applications do not get along with the thicker window borders, then, in the final version, these programs will already be entered in a blacklist and will therefore continue to be provided with the old, thinner window borders.
Features of AfA 4.00 Final beta 1:
- Visualprefs and Birdie or AFA-skin can be selected via AFA_Prefs and adapted Startup-Sequence. For this, refer to the Readme at all costs for how you must change the startup-sequence (In Amikit 1.4, this is already done)
- OS4/PNG icons can be scaled in real time, thanks to high-grade scale code by Thilo Köhler. On a classic (060), OS4 Mason icons with a size of 30 pixels can be displayed faster than in original size.
- In getdiskobject and dupdiskopbject, added tags IA_Width, IA_Height for scaling
- Realtime skin system, which can switch skins without closing and opening screen, arbitrary border sizes also possible at the same time (screenshot)
- A blacklist in which you can enter names of programs which do not get along with larger window borders, then, the standard border size of AmigaOS is assigned to these
- Many configurable realtime parameters, like 3 different window border lines, window title size, size gadget size
- The user can change the settings preset by the skin designer via GUI
- Window title font selectable independent of the window font configured in AmigaOS
- Position of the text in the window title and shadows with configurable depth selectable
- The skins consist of multiple pictures for the screen title and all parts of the window title like top, left, bottom and right border and for the foreground and background for the vertical and horizontal scroll bar
- 7 skins by Ken Lester now usable (screenshot)

Back to the Roots V2.41 - Patch Level 2
Below, Ralf Steines summarizes the recent developments at Back to the Roots:
Fred Fish Memorial Archive:
Now two weeks have passed since we opened our tribute page
to Fred Fish, which went a successfull burn-in-test for our
new server: During the last 2 weeks our main server delivered
25.000 CD images, most of them Fred Fish CDs!
The memorial archive grew to 3 times its initial size, thanks
to the numerous people who contributed missing material!
There's still quite some stuff missing, so please check your
collections and consider contributing, especially the Frozen Fish
and the Geek Gadget Snapshot CDs. Thanks!
Geek Gadgets FTP Mirror:
Since we mirrored ftp.ninemoons.com daily, to 26.Aug.2004
when it went down we have the latest copy of it online, which we
consider the master site from now on.
We will exctend it with any snapshots and improved versions we
could get hold of to at least provide an up to date archive of
this (currently?) sleeping project. We will happily give anyone
interested to continue and maintain it full control over it.
Geek Gadgets Reloaded:
Since the FTP is only a part of the project we digged out a
copy of the Geek Gadgets master site, originally hosted at
www.geekgadgets.org.
We started reconstructing and updating the master site of it.
The site got a handy subdomain and all missing package documents
will be added with time. We call this preservation side project
Geek Gadgets Reloaded and will happily handle control over to a
new maintainer.
Amigascne.org full mirror:
We finally finished a years old plan to have a fullmirror of
the huge amigascne.org archive online on our FTP. Due to storage
space limits we only had a partial mirror, which we fixed now, so
we now have an official full mirror. Big thanks go to
Cygnus^Amigascne for being such an easy guy.
Enjoy the enormous collection of about 10GB of Amiga scene output.
Even if you're used to browse huge archives you will surely get
lost once you dive in there!
Faces of Mars Archive:
Another years old plan we already started long ago finally gets
realised: An online version of the Faces of Mars disk series and
FreeCDs offering all releases for download at no cost.
This project is still work in process, but since most FreeCDs are
already online, we decided to release it, so you may all help
filling the gaps. We still have no FOM disk above #336, so please
check your PD CDs for FOM disks 337-500+ to finish the collection.
Thanks.
Amidemos Master Site:
While we were updating our FTP we stumbled across the FTP mirror of
robotriot's amidemos.org project, a collection of Amiga demos
transcoded to DIVX / AVI video format.
We updated our mirror from the scene.org archive but noticed that
quite some videos were missing. So we digged in backup copies until
we recreated most of the collection, only Kah835gb by Madwizards
and Raybong by Loveboat are missing. If you have any of these
videos from amidemos collection then please upload it to our anon
upload ftp so we can finish the new Amidemos Master Site.
Thanks!
FlatDisk Modules FTP:
The Flatdisk Modules Archive (FDMA) by FlatRich of FlatDisk Softworks
is a collection of over 5600 mods, collected in the years 1992-1999.
We host this archive since a while, including per collection year
ModRadio channels. We added it now to our FTP server too, offering
you a convenient way for mass downloading it.
Please enjoy, yours BTTR team!
