Amiga-Emulator: Janus 0.6
Janus is an Amiga emulator written in Javascript and by Rupert Hausberger which works with modern web browsers - although being completely supported only by Chrome currently (amiga-news.de reported).
In the latest version 0.6 AmigaOS 1.x as well as now version 2.04 and AROS are supported. Additionally games like Alien Breed Tower Assault, Project-X Special Edition, Shadow of the Beast 2 or Wings now work.
Changes in version 0.6 (25.10.2012):
- ROM
- Added support for extended-roms.
- AROS kickstart replacement is now the default-rom, and will be downloaded and used on the fly.
- RAM
- Changed internal memory alignment from 8 to 16 bit.
- Added fast-ram support, through a emulated Commodore A2058 in Zorro2-mode.

- Sorted access for memory-routines by priority.
- CPU
- Fixed sign-extension for memory to address-register transfers in MOVEM.
- Fixed sign-extension for absolute-word addresses in exEA.
- Fixed wrong address when writing a byte to the stack in ldEA.
- Fixed 32bit calculations for address-regsiters in ADDQ/SUBQ.

- Optimized integer-arithmetic functions. Size depending calcalations are now used.
- Improved exception 2/3 handling.
- More small cleanups not listed here.
- Disk
- Ported latest disk-code from WinUAE. Disk-based problems should be gone now, e.g. floopy shown as BAD or read errors.
- Diskchange does now work.
- Drives can be disabled now.
- DD/HD types are now supported.
- Display
- Added missing support for HAM6.
- Fixed horizontal and vertical screen-centering.
- Fixed screen-draging, almost, read the "Known bugs" section.
- Added better screen-scrolling.

- Fixed bug, that made the fire 1 button on joystick 0 not working.
- Fixed bug in the mouse-movement function, that calculates the wrong coordinates in some cases.
- GUI
- Added eject-button in the disk-change requester.
- Removed the CPU and OCS/ECS options. They are useless so far.
- The "Pause" and "Resume" buttons are once now.
- Made some options only apera when selected.
- Did some cosmetics.
- Misc
- Added support for Zorro2-expansion cards.
- Added a more precise event-handling. This makes the audio-output a little smoother.
- Changed the ratio of CPU-/Chipset-time from 1:8 to 1:4
- Fixed a bug in the RTC. "Year" is now calculated correctly.
- Fixed incorrect response of serial.device. Now crashed programms does reset (and show the guru), instead of idle.
- Any output on the serial.device is now redirected to the debug-log. (dev only)
- Kickstart/Workbench 2.04 and AROS does now work.
- Overall about 10-30% more speed, as long as the blitter is not used too much.

USB-board: Design of "Thylacine" released, possibly reissue as construction kit
Thylacine USB is a low-cost USB-controller which was introduced 2002 and on a "full length" Zorro 2 plugin-card hosts an USB 1.1-port. The developers have released all information which are necessary for the production of a reissue by third persons.
For the Thylacine USB there is a Poseidon-driver which works together with version 4.4 of USB-Stacks which is available for free. A possible reisue of the hardware as a construction kit is currently discussed (German) on a1k.org.
Already 10 years ago there were reports which gave the impression that the Thylacine only works with selected USB-hardware without any problems. On a1k.org (all in German) Poseidon author Chris "Platon42" Hodges, Michael Boehmer from E3B and Jens Schönfeld (Individual Computers) warn of the quality of the used USB-chip (SL811) as well as of the Poseidon driver.
It must be said that all three critics might not be completely objective: Jens Schönfeld obviously has plans for an USB-hardware and Boehmer/Hodges are going to publish a reissue of the Subway: According to them a third person apparently has licenced the design of the clockport-extension of E3B and the Poseidon-drivers of Hodges and thus avoided the problems.
Actually the Subway now is available in the Vesalia-shop again but currently with indefinite date of delivery.

Accelerator board: ACA-620 available (Update)
The accelerator board ACA-620 produced by Individual Computers (amiga-news.de reported) now is available in different Amiga stores.
The board is equipped with a 16,67 MHz clocked MC68EC020-processor as well as 9+1 MB virtual memory. 9 MB can be generally used and 1MB is used for the MapROM-function. This means the Kickstart-ROM is executed from the 32-bit-memory which increases the speed.
Update: (20:30, 10.10.12, snx)
As Jens Schönfeld mentions at a1k.org, an additional part of the 16 MB RAM actually present on-board can be utilized using the ACAtune tool. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Event: Photos and videos of Saku 2012
At the title link photos and videos of the Saku 2012 have been published. The Finnish Amiga User Group comment: "The event was held on September 29th in Oulu, the northern Amiga capital of Finland. The event was a success with around 70 visitors, which was achieved with proper advertisement and also promotion in other public events.
For example, we were asked to arrange some retro gaming at Oulu Arts' Night earlier this year and we got around 200 interested nostalgia gamers there. Amiga is not forgotten! Maybe we just should participate in more mainstream events to get people interested in our specific events as well.
Saku 2012 featured thirteen Amiga compatible and three Commodore 64 computers, four video projectors, several sales tables, game and programming competitions with prizes, demo and video shows and a very enthusiastic atmosphere.
Next year we aim higher with the Saku 2013 event. It will be held in southern Finland where the potential of reaching the masses is a lot higher. It will also be our 20th anniversary event. Be ready for it!
About Finnish Amiga Users Group:
Finnish Amiga Users Group (officially Suomen Amiga-käyttäjät ry) is a registered, non-profit organization dedicated to helping Finnish Amiga computer users by preserving and advancing the Amiga hobby and knowledge of the Amiga computing platform in Finland. The group aims to reach its goals through volunteer efforts such as maintaining a web site and discussion forum and organizing events. (snx)

Retro-Gaming: WHDLoad 17.1
With WHDLoad you can install games, scene demos and intros on your harddrive which originally could only be used from disks. Additionally several incompatibilities with new Amiga models were fixed.
Today the final version 17.1 has been released. Additionally since our last message with Antideluvian Sloppy Spectacle (Essence), created by BlackWine (info, image) a new package was uploaded.
Changes in version 17.1:
- Fix: Formatting of termination reason string in register dump fixed on very long texts (Psygore)
- Fix: If the vbr is moved by WHDLoad the interrupts of levels 4-6 (vectors $70..$78) are directly forwarded to the installed program now, in previous releases all the sanity checks and checks for the keyboard were done in each interrupt which has increased the latency and duration of the interrupts, now these checks are only performed in interrupt levels 1-3 or if the option CheckInts/S is used for all levels it seems that the increased amount of code put into the interrupts by the later WHDLoad versions has caused problems with several games, this is hopefully fixed now and these games will work with the current WHDLoad as good as with versions 16.8 or 16.9
- Fix: On a 68020 the default cache setup was instruction cache enable, this bug has been introduced in version 17.0, now the default is again disabled (Toni Wilen)
- Chg: The icon started from is only written if any gadget has been pressed, previously it were written everytime if Config or Expert was active (Graham)
- Fix: Prevented a bug when FileLog/S will be disabled via the splash window
- New: Resload_DiskLoad can now dump all read files, see autodoc
- New: SnoopOCS/ECS/AGA/S checks also that writes to custom.aud*ptr are not outside BaseMem and are not equal zero, check is only performed on 68060 (Psygore)
- Chg: WHDLoad now detects a filesize difference between the directory scan used for resload_Examine/ExNext requested by WHDLF_Examine and the file PreLoad, this may reveal filesystem problems in conjunction with dos.ExAll, e.g. ffs 39.x (issue #2575)
- Chg: Documentation regarding patch lists in include and autodoc files improved
- Fix: On chip memory only machines with Kickstart 3.0 or better slaves with WHDLF_Examine failed on building the directory cache due problems with exec.CreatePool (Psygore)

Richard Fhager's Breakout game BabeAnoid was written in AMOS and released ten years ago. In 2003 version 2.0 was released. The next version 2.5 was never released because the author stopped developing Amiga software.
Upon request of an a1k.org-reader Fhager has provided a download link for a beta version BabeAnoid 2.5. This beta version is being not developed further and according to the author possibly has included "some special modes". BabeAnoid requires a 68020 as well as 2 MB RAM. It could be also played with computers with only 1 MB Chip-RAM if some preferences are set to a lower level.
Direct download: babe25b1.lha (3,1 MB)

MUI-Klasse: NList source codes "saved"
After Jens Langner could have saved the source codes of a lot of well-known MUI-classes ten years ago with a "emergency surgery" this time he did have to get help from the open source directory ohloh.net to restore the contents of the source code repository of mcc.nlist which have been accidentally deletated on sourceforge.net.
The team of ohloh.net described the happening in a blog on its site.
