USB-board: Design of "Thylacine" released, possibly reissue as construction kit
Thylacine USB is a low-cost USB-controller which was introduced 2002 and on a "full length" Zorro 2 plugin-card hosts an USB 1.1-port. The developers have released all information which are necessary for the production of a reissue by third persons.

For the Thylacine USB there is a Poseidon-driver which works together with version 4.4 of USB-Stacks which is available for free. A possible reisue of the hardware as a construction kit is currently discussed (German) on a1k.org.

Already 10 years ago there were reports which gave the impression that the Thylacine only works with selected USB-hardware without any problems. On a1k.org (all in German) Poseidon author Chris "Platon42" Hodges, Michael Boehmer from E3B and Jens Schönfeld (Individual Computers) warn of the quality of the used USB-chip (SL811) as well as of the Poseidon driver.

It must be said that all three critics might not be completely objective: Jens Schönfeld obviously has plans for an USB-hardware and Boehmer/Hodges are going to publish a reissue of the Subway: According to them a third person apparently has licenced the design of the clockport-extension of E3B and the Poseidon-drivers of Hodges and thus avoided the problems.

Actually the Subway now is available in the Vesalia-shop again but currently with indefinite date of delivery. (cg) (Translation: dr)
