Tetris variant: Drag & Drop
'Drag & Drop' (Video) is a Tetris variant where blocks aren't falling down from the top of the screen, instead the player has to put them on on the playfield using Drag'Drop himself. The game can be downloaded for free, it is possible to pay a user-defined fee to the author before starting the download. (cg)

Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine V2022.1
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan allows you to develop games. The engine itself is closed source, all demos and example games are open source. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, levels created by using the editor Tiled eingesetzt. For importing and creating sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats (mod, 8svx, anim5) are used.

Yesterday version 2022.1 has been released adding screen size settings, new movement types and more (teaser video). (dr)

Amigaland: 324 games online
At the beginning of the new year, Mirko Engelhardt writes about achievements and future plans:
"We now have 324 games online, of which 28 games are also available on CD 32 or CD, plus 86 PD games. We've never had this many games online before. That was a real feat in 2021 and also already in January 2022. We will continue to expand that: Promise! The goal is to have at least 600 downloads in total this year. This includes the PD stuff. For apps, we want to increase to at least 10 (currently 4), and for demos to 40 (currently 18). Also in focus are the books, which we want to give to the respective history offers. Just rummage around and you will increasingly find what you are looking for. A goal for 2022 is also the presentation of all companies that support Amigaland so far (that will be hard :)) If you have any other wishes, please let us know. We will then also do that :)" (dr)

Hyperion blog apparently hacked by spammers
At the end of 2010, Hyperion had introduced a "developer blog" to inform users about current events around AmigaOS 4. The last official contributions date back to 2017, from then technical director Costel Mincea. Then in November, The Ultimate Guide To Online Dating was the first entry that had a recognizably unofficial character. Since the beginning of the year, there has been an update on Windows and related topics every few days, each with links to download portals and similar offers well hidden in the text. (cg)

AmigaOS 4: Tile-matching puzzle game 'Freegemas'
Based on the original by Jose Tomas Tocino, developer 'IamSONIC' has ported the tile-matching puzzle game Freegemas to AmigaOS 4, adding a low CPU mode (useful for ~800 MHz systems) and Tooltype support.

With the help of PatchCompositeTags the game runs under WinUAE without problems. (dr)

Hollywood plugin: Iconic 1.0 released

Press release:: In 2022 Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hollywood, the cross-platform multimedia application layer. To kick off the celebrations we are proud to present a brand-new plugin for Hollywood: Iconic. Iconic is the ultimate icon loader and saver plugin for Hollywood. It will make all your icon dreams come true because it can load and save icons in pretty much all of the most common icon formats. The following formats are currently supported:
  • AmigaOS 1.x style icons
  • AmigaOS 2.x/3.x style icons
  • AmigaOS 3.5/3.9 icons (aka GlowIcons)
  • AmigaOS 4.x Icons
  • macOS Icons (*.icns-Format)
  • MagicWB icons
  • MorphOS/PowerIcons icons (PNG)
  • NewIcons
  • Windows icons (*.ico-Format)
Of course, Iconic also supports loading and saving of the metadata found in the Amiga icon formats like tooltypes, icon position, drawer view mode, icon type and so on. Thanks to Hollywood 9's new support for palette images it is also possible to load the icon palette, set a transparent pen and access the raw palette pens used in the icon image data. Of course, Iconic doesn't only support palette-based icon images but also icons that contain true colour images with alpha channel. Several of the icon formats listed above also support palette and true colour images within the same icon file and several different icon sizes within the same icon file. All of this is supported by Iconic as well!

This is why Iconic is the ultimate icon plugin for Hollywood and a must-have for every Hollywood user. The plugin is now available for free download from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (x86), Linux (arm, ppc, x86, x64), macOS (ppc, x86, x64), Windows (x86, x64), Android and iOS are provided. Note that Hollywood 9 is strictly required by Iconic.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hollywood we also offer a special 20 euros discount on the full version of Hollywood for a limited time only. This is the perfect chance for all people who don't own Hollywood yet to grab their own copy and to explore the wonderful world of Hollywood and be fascinated by the gigantic functionality of this unique piece of software and all of the plugins that come with it! Graphics card: Presale of ZZ9000 for ninth batch
In his online shop, Lukas F. Hartmann has updated the item describtion of the graphics card ZZ9000 which now says: "Parts for all cards sold so far (Batch 8) are in stock and production is in progress. We have reopened pre-sales for Batch 9 which we expect for a June 2022 shipping target. Before buying, please keep in mind that due to the global chip shortage, additional delays can happen. We will ship your card eventually, but patience is key."

He also reported yesterday on Twitter that the delivery of the first batch of the ZZ9000AX sound module is slightly delayed (mid/end-February) due to the complicated manufacturing of the ZZ9000->AX cable and the manufacturer's overload before the Spring Festival. (dr)

Free motherboard design: Rämixx500 available in shops
The Rämixx500 is an open hardware remake of the Commodore Amiga 500+ motherboard, revision 8A.1 (amiga-news.de reported). Although the developer SukkoPera is already intensively working on the V2 of his project and thus further modifications (see also the Developer Blog), the V1 is still the last official release. For that the developer has crossed out his warnings ("THIS BOARD IS UNTESTED!!! IT MIGHT NOT WORK AT ALL! It might kill your cat or burn your house down. You have been warned."), noting now that this version of the board has been tested and works well - "apart from a couple of very minor issues". However, he could not recommend using this version of the board, even if it worked. Instead, one should download the project documents and check them for errors.

If that is too much trouble for you, you can order already produced boards. Both the German pcb4diy.de and the Irish store Sordan offer the board for around 34 and 28 Euros, respectively, plus shipping. (dr)
