Projektstart: It Came From The Desert - der Film
Die Produktionsfirma Roger! Pictures hat offenbar eine Lizenz für eine filmische Umsetzung des Cinemaware-Klassikers It Came From The Desert erworben. Auf der Facebook-Seite des Projekts sind bisher nur einige Film-Poster zu finden. Dem Blog Indie Retro News haben die Macher mitgeteilt, man befinde man sich derzeit in der Pre-Production-Phase - weitere Informationen sollen ab dem 16. Januar folgen. (cg)

Gloom Deluxe Total Conversion: "Did IT come from the Desert?"
Inspiriert durch Cinemawares Ankündigung, die bisher nicht veröffentlichte Mega Drive-Umsetzung von It Came From The Desert nächstes Jahr auf den Markt zu bringen, hat "nittamituaki" eine "Total Conversion" des FPS-Klassikers Gloom Deluxe erstellt.
Die Mega Drive-Version des Klassikers hat nämlich mit dem Adventure-lastigen Original nicht mehr viel zu tun - es handelt sich eher um einen waschechten Shooter.
Um nittamituakis Total Conversion (Youtube-Video) zu installieren, muss Gloom Deluxe zunächst auf Festplatte installiert werden. Danach werden dann die ursprünglichen Spiel-Daten mit denen aus dem "Did IT come from the Desert?"-Download ersetzt. Das Spiel benötigt einen 68020-Prozessor und rund 1,8 MB ChipRAM. (cg)

Amiga-Emulator: FS-UAE 2.5.22dev
Frode Solheims FS-UAE für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und BSD basiert auf WinUAE und ist komplett per Joypad bedienbar. Seit der letzten stabilen Version im März (2.4.1) wurden bislang nur noch in Entwicklung befindliche Fassungen veröffentlicht.
Änderungen in FS-UAE 2.5.22dev:
- Use qemu-uae for slirp support
- Added support for softfloat library (not tested)
- Enabled support for prowizard module ripper
- New action “action_module_ripper” available for custom input mapping
- A few other bugfixes

E-Mail-Client: SimpleMail 0.41 (AmigaOS 3/4)
Wie gewohnt gibt es von SimpleMail zur Weihnachtszeit ein Update. Die scherzhaft als "Final Edition" bezeichnete Veröffentlichung wurde um einige Zertifikats-Checks erweitert und kommt jetzt unter AmigaOS 4 mit einer eigenen, aktuelleren Version von OpenSSL.
- Added some server certificate checks including the possibility to manually specify the fingerprints of the remote servers
- For AmigaOS 4.x, a version statically linked against OpenSSL will be temporarily provided, at least until AmiSSL has been updated. For this version, OpenSSL 1.0.1j is used.
- Some development infrastructure changes have been undertaken including the move of the source code repository from SourceForge to GitHub

Nostalgie: Die letzten noch aktiven Amiga-Mailboxen
Ehemalige Mailbox-Nutzer verspüren gelegentlich die Sehnsucht, die alten Zeiten wieder ein wenig aufleben zu lassen. Wer die Zeit zwischen den Jahren für einen kleinen Mailbox-Rundgang nutzen möchte für den haben wir eine Liste uns bekannter noch aktiver Mailboxen mit Amiga-Bezug zusammen gestellt.

Quiz-Spiel: "Wer wird Amiga Guru?" für alle Amiga-Systeme
In Anlehnung an eine bekannte TV-Quiz-Show gilt es bei "Wer wird Amiga Guru?" 1 Million Punkte zu ergattern - dabei helfen unter anderem so illustre Telefon-Joker wie "Amiga-Kalle" oder der 50/50-Joker:
Das Spiel wurde mit Hollwood entwickelt, das Hollyood-Plugin für JPEG2000-Bilder muss installiert sein. Als Auflösung wird FullHD (1920x1080) empfohlen, bei kleineren Auflösungen wird die Grafik entsprechend skaliert.
Wie viel Speicher für die Quiz-Show benötigt wird, ist uns derzeit nicht bekannt - "Wer wird Amiga Guru?" wird als einzelne, ausführbare Datei mit einer Größe von knapp 74 MB ausgeliefert. (cg)

Spielestarter: X-bEnCH 0.99 Pre-Release
X-bEnCH ist eine grafische Oberfläche mit bis zu 272 Farben (AGA; 128 auf OCS/ECS-Rechnern), welche zum Starten von WHDLoad-Spielen und sonstigen Anwendungen die Workbench ersetzen kann und wenig Ressourcen erfordert, außerdem steht eine integrierte Kommandozeile sowie der Dateimanager Xpl0rEr zur Verfügung.
Aus Zeitmangel veröffentlicht der Autor statt Version 1.0 nur die als "Pre-Release" bezeichnete v0.99, in deren Handbuch die meisten Neuerungen noch nicht dokumentiert sind. Ein Update einer älteren Installation wird nicht empfohlen, das Programm sollte komplett neu aufgesetzt werden.
Die letzten Änderungen in den verschiedenen X-bEnCH-Komponenten:
Xinit 3.5:
- No more interlaced Hires display as asked by users.
- New floppy pix loading screen. (No more loading bar)
- New MicroKnight font check added.
- New two databases checks added.
- New pix unknow and nopict check added.
- Xbench Guru box display fixed (Was ending on a black screen if some
files were missed).
- Now internals releases need a regkey to start.
- New internal sort loop for the database (Top/Flop/Favorites/...)
- Now can use black or white background for loading screen (see setup).
- Added a check for the new Xpl0rEr datas.
- Fixed the "d" Hotkey debug feature. (Only init was logged)

- Fixed a bug that was crashing your system if you have less than 2Mb
of free Ram (chip or fast).
Xmenu 2.9:
- Now display up to 352 colours on screen with AGA.
- New logo by Leon.
- Logo position fix.
- Now display a 8bit logo if Aga is detected or 5bit one if no AGA.
- New MicroKnight font used.
- Now blue rotating tube effect behind the menu for AGA setups.
- Fixed a weird bug that was in some case moving the Xbench logo.
- Starfield optimised (250% faster for everybody and with 50% more
stars on screen for 020+ users).
- New rewind reverse effect for the starfield.
- Slow speed with 68020/68030 AGA fixed.
- Rotating tube effect under the menu limited to 040/060 AGA setup.

Xlaunch 3.8:
- Now display up to 640 colours on screen with AGA.
- New MicroKnight font.

- Logo position fix.

- More than 99Mb of fast display bug fixed (Now up to 999Mb).
- New NTSC display (200px) and PAL display (256px) implemented.
- CD32 Fastjump freez (after 15/20 jump) fix (unfinished!)
- Now you can press the "Help" key to randomly start an entry of the
actual listing.
- Now properly rename your games for a clean display.
- Now display in real time the name and some infos about your game in
the bottom of the screen.
- Now display in real time pictures of your game in the bottom of the
screen.
- New blue to purple gradient background.
- New floppy pix loading screen.
- New rotating gradient text color for the listings with AGA.
- You can now press "F8" for an access to the "FlopList".
- Now you can start on Top, Flop, Favourite or the first valid listing.
- You can now press "F9" for an access to the "FavList".
- You can now press the "+" key on your keyboard or the "Play/Pause"
button with a CD32 Pad to add an entry to the "FavList".
- You can now press the "-" key on your keyboard or the "Play/Pause"
button with a CD32 Pad to remove an entry from the "FavList".
- Now check the listing rev to be sure that all is up to date.
- Now if a listing rev is not "compatible" Xlaunch exit back to the
main menu.
- Fixed a big fail/bug in the listings reading and dimming.
- Now can use a variable delay to refresh the bottom part. (see setup)
- Fixed a weird bug that was in some case moving the Xbench logo.
- Floplist is now replaced by the Last15 list.
- Now work with up to 25 smaller databases. (List1>6, Top, Last15,
Favs, refs, ...). Faster and less memory needed.
- You can now use the keypad with the searchengine/fastjump feature.
- Crash of the random game selection feature (Help key) fully fixed.
- Now the random game selection jump back to the good position when
leaving the game.
- Checkerboard loader 1.4 now can be disabled with a switch in the
setup to have faster start of your games.
- Now you can switch the color of the background in the setup with
this colors: Blue, Red, Purple or random.
- New gradient background updated to be colors switchable.
- Now can display the listing with a sliding color effect (Aga only)
or with a fader effect with a switch (As before and for every setup).
- If you have selected a playlist in the setup, then one track of your
playlist will be randomly played.
- Start of a random game (Help key) bug fixed.
- Stack overflow fixed if the favs list is bigger than any other
single list.
- F7/F8/F9 shortcuts fixeds.
- Fixed a bug that was not adding the good entry to the Favs list.
- Now you can remove many entry in the Favs list without any bug.
- Now if the Favs list is empty jump back to the first listing
available (an so no more crash if you try to move in or delete an
entry in an empty Favs list).
- Fixed the "d" Hotkey debug feature. (Only init was logged)
- Random background color feature fixed.
- Random background color now set as default if you don't change it
in the setup/launcher (was previously set as Blue)
- Audio Playlist feature fully fixed.
- Unkown refs fixed (was previously seen as a known ref without pict).
- New refs database including 4059 refs based on the eab 2.2 whdlpacks.
- Now set to play as default the cracktro tunes playlist.
- Now can use black or white background for loading screen (see setup).
- Fixed a mistake that can display some bad entrys if you try to go rear
to the end of a list.

Xpl0Rer 1.4:
- Rename/Cancel shapes were inverted in the rename box. Fixed.
- More than 99Mb of fast display bug fixed (Now up to 999Mb).
- Fixed an i/o issue that was crashing the system with too fast
or too slow drive.
- Now if Pal display is detected display is switched to 640x256.
- Added 18 user programmable buttons. (Not yet activated)
- Added the Mod player buttons. (Not yet activated)
- Now read the setup.prf when starting.
- Up to 12 users programmables buttons added (PAL, 6 with NTSC).
- Mod player with Playlist feature added (Unfinished but working).
- Fixed the Format button that was not working with the left side.
- Now use the Microknightfont as the other parts of X-bEnCh.
- Fixed a mistake that was switching the display ON before all is ok.
- Now use gfx buttons instead off full txt/code buttons.
- New Top/Up/Down/Bottom gfx buttons instead of txt buttons.
- Top/Up/Down/Bottom buttons are now on the right side of the xplorer
window instead of the bottom.
- Added the Refresh button to force redraw of a dir.
- Central display notifications system added.
- Now use a single Audio Filter buttons (Dolby logo).
- Added an "Eject" button to clear the current playlist.
- Central Display updated to show the name of the curently played mod.
- Playlist manager now display the list of mods in a playlist.
- Added Top/Up/Down/Bottom buttons to the playlist's list manager so
now you can browse trough it.
- Fixed a bug that was forbiding you to go to the bottom of a list with
the down button.
- Bad display color of the files in a list if there is no subdirectory
in the readed dir fixed.
- Added the Clock/Date display feature on the bottom left part.
- Code optimised and lighted.
- Fixed the "d" Hotkey debug feature. (Only init was logged)
- Too long mods name display issue fixed.
- Added the mod volume oscillo feature to the central display.
Xsetup 3.4:
- Added an option to switch the refresh delay of the bottom part of
the screen. If "oFf" the bottompart will be simply switched off.
If 5ms/10ms/15ms the bottom part will be refreshed 5/10 or 15 vbl
after you stop moving in the listing. Use this option if setup is
a bit slow. ("InfoScr")
- New launching listings format.
- Scanning is more verbose now.
- The "Top" switch in the launcher setup is renamed on "StartOn". So
now you can switch between the init to the Top, the Flop, the Favs
or the 1st valid listing.
- Now when updating a list the database for the Top/Flop/Favorites is
updated too and included all entry (even if started 0 time).
- Now add a rev to a listing when updated.
- Bad displayed names in the launcher lists fixed.
- In some rare cases the number of entrys scanneds were falses. Fixed.
- Database update upgraded.
- Launcher option "Start on Flop15" replaced by "Start on Last 15".
- Added a switch to enable/disable the Checkerboard screen. ("LoAdScr")
- The button to switch the background of the launcher is now activated.
(You can switch between Random, Blue, Red and Purple).
- The button to switch the display mode of the text in the launcher
is now activated. (You can switch between slider and fader effect)
- In the setup/launcher you can now change the name of a listing and
it will be saved even if you don't update this listing.
- The setup/Xplorer panel has been created with on the left the 84
buttons needed for the setup of the 12 users buttons and on the
right the 13 options buttons.
- Now you can use an audio playlist for the Launcher
- Added a button to open an ASL file requester to select your playlist.
Music button must be switched to "PList" instead of "Yes".
- Added a button to switch the arrows positions in the Xpl0rer tab.
- New look and design.
- Now use the Microknight font as like as the other parts of X-bEnCh.
- Fixed a bug that was adding false whdload entrys (as like as Apidya).
- Fixed a mistake that was creating a list with 1 entry if there was no
entry to add.
- Added a LoadingBg button in the MySystem tab to switch the background
color of the floppy loading screen (Black/white)
Xcli 1.6:
- TopUpdate cmd is back and upgraded. Use it instead of dbupdate cmd.
- Help cmd updated.
- Toplight cmd added. Use it if the toplist is too heavy and slow.

Jérôme 'Glames' Senays hat ein Update seines kommerziellen Dateimanagers "Dir Me Up" veröffentlicht. Version 2.35 kommt jetzt auch in einer polnischen Übersetzung, außerdem wurden Fehler bei der Bildvorschau und dem Anlegen von Lesezeichen beseitigt. (cg)

MorphOS: SoundBankster 1.3
Antoine 'tchecko' Dubourgs SoundBankster (Screenshot) ist eine Anwendung für DJs, die sich komplett mit einem USB-DJ-Deck steuern lässt. Ein System mit wenigstens 512 MB Arbeitsspeicher wird empfohlen.
Das Programm ist auf MorphOS zugeschnitten und nutzt z.B. das mit dessen Version 3.6 eingeführte HID-Sensor-API. Weiterhin Verwendung finden Reggae (Laden und Abspielen von Musik), AHI (duale Tonausgabe über unterschiedliche AHI-Units zum Mitverfolgen per Kopfhörer) und TinyGL (Rendering der grafischen Darstellung des Audiosignals).
Changes:
- Full localisation, SoundBankster is now provided with french and english locale
- Improved equalizers by using shelf filters for low and hi band greatly improving the filtering
- Improved loop handling, added x2 and /2 buttons
- Minor GUI changes here and there

AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition: Aktualisierte Startdiskette für Amiga 3000 Computer

Brüssel, 24. Dezember 2014
Hyperion Entertainment musste mit großem Bedauern feststellen, dass die ursprünglich mit "AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition" für Amiga 1200, 3000 und 4000 Computer ausgelieferte Startdiskette eine beschädigte KickLayout-Datei beinhaltet, durch die das Starten auf einem Amiga 3000 Computer nicht möglich ist.
Um dieses Problem zu korrigieren, können registrierte Kunden der AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition für klassische Amiga Computer eine aktualisierte Startdiskette als ADF-Abbild aus dem Download-Bereich herunterladen.
Wahlweise können erfahrene Anwender den manuellen Anweisungen in Hyperions Kundenforum folgen.

EvenMore ist ein mit ECX in Amiga E geschriebener Textanzeiger von Chris Perver. Zu den Änderungen in der Version 0.84 zählt, dass der Text auf Systemen mit Grafikkarte in Echtfarben gerendert wird, was zu einer Beschleunigung führt.

- SCSI CD READ CD command only worked if audio track was first track of CD
- Hard reset didn't reset map rom loaded KS ROM data
- AGA sprites in borders were clipped incorrectly in some situations (2.8.0)
- Autofire always on mode crashed
- PCMCIA IDE emulation was broken long time ago
- uanet.device + slirp combination was unusable
- Directory filesystem statesave support open file path handling fixed
- AVI audio recording always used PCM mode

AROS: AEROS für Amiqube erhältlich
Für den amiqube ist nun auch die Linux-gehostete AROS-Distribution AEROS erhältlich - entweder direkt beim Hardware-Anbieter unter dem Titellink oder über den indieGO!-Appstore.
Beim amiqube handelt es sich um die CuBox-i (Wikipedia), einen ARM-basierten Minicomputer. Der Prozessor ist ein i.MX6 Dual Lite. Der amiqube wird nach eigenen Angaben von Amidore Inc. vermarktet, auch über drei Läden in Florida, USA. Dahinter steht das italienische Unternehmen Formato Media SRL mit Sitz in Rom. (snx)

ACube Systems: L2-Cache-Programm für den Sam460/AmigaOne 500
Bereits vor einer Woche hat ACube Systems ein kleines Programm für Besitzer eines Sam460ex- oder Sam460cr-Boards veröffentlicht, mit dem sich das Schreiben in den L2-Cache ein- und wieder ausschalten lässt.
Standardmäßig schaltet AmigaOS 4 das Schreiben in den L2-Cache des Sam460-Prozessors aus, um eine Inkohärenz zwischen L2-Cache und Hauptspeicher zu vermeiden. Auf eigene Gefahr kann das Schreiben in den L2-Cache aktiviert werden, es wird jedoch empfohlen, dies bloß vor dem Start leistungsintensiver Anwendungen (z.B. dem Anschauen eines Films) zu tun und es danach wieder abzuschalten.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass das Aktivieren des L2-Schreibzugriffs zur Systeminstabilität und/oder Datenverlusten führen kann. Andererseits meldet Ragemem mit dem Programm einen Geschwindigkeitszuwachs von rund 35 % bei den L2-WRITE32/WRITE64-Tests, und manche Anwendungen können ebenfalls schneller werden (bei MPLayer beispielsweise sind es bei manchen Videos drei bis fünf Prozent).

A-EON Technology hat für die AmigaOS-Version des Raytracing- und Animationsprogramms Aladdin 4D den Quellkode und die Rechte zur Weiterentwicklung erworben. Versionen für MorphOS und AROS werden nicht ausgeschlossen, die Rechte für Nicht-Amiga-Betriebssysteme verbleiben bei DiscreetFX.
Nach Bemühungen, den Quellkode von Greg Gorbys Programm offenzulegen, hatte 2007 stattdessen DiscreetFX die Rechte von Nova Design gekauft. (snx)

AmigaOS 4/MorphOS: Bounty zur Altivec-Optimierung von MPlayer
Konstantinos 'feanor' Margaritis wäre bereit, die PPC-Portierung von MPlayer für die in den G4-, G5- und PA6T-Prozessoren verbaute Altivec-Einheit zu optimieren, falls 1000 Euro an Spenden gesammelt werden. Ein entsprechendes Bounty wurde jetzt bei bountysource.com eröffnet.
Ziel der Optimierung ist es, den mit h264 kodierten Trailer des Kinofilms Prometheus in einer Auflösung von 1920x1080 Punkten ruckelfrei auf einem X1000 abzuspielen - derzeit werden bei höchster Bildqualität rund 18 statt der benötigten 24 Bilder pro Sekunde erreicht. Ob eine Altivec-Optimierung die Performance um 33% steigern kann und wie viel Effekt sie auf schwächeren Prozessoren hätte, kann der Programmierer derzeit nicht abschätzen.
Für welche Systeme lauffähige Versionen abgeliefert werden müssen wird in der Bounty-Beschreibung nicht erwähnt. Margaritis besitzt keine OS4-kompatiblen Rechner, an echter Hardware steht ihm lediglich ein Powerbook G4 zur Verfügung. (cg)

AROS: Icaros Desktop Update 2.0.1
In Version 2.0.1 von Paolo Bessers AROS-Distribution Icaros Desktop wurden diverse Fehler bereinigt, außerdem kann "AmiBridge" den Emulator Janus-UAE jetzt wahlweise mit AmigaOS 3.X (aus einer Amiga Forever-Distribution) oder AROS-m68k betrieben werden.

Mit WHDLoad lassen sich Spiele und Szene-Demos, die nur für den Diskettenbetrieb gedacht waren, auf einer Festplatte installieren. Außerdem werden zahlreiche Inkompatibilitäten mit neueren Amiga-Modellen beseitigt.
Änderungen in Version 18.0:

Supervisor mode and then trace exception was used from the
installed program, seen especially in installs using kick13
emu and performing a lot of disk io, fixes issue #2094 and
connected ones
- chg:the log file created by the FileLog/S facility has been
renamed from .whdl_filelog to .whdl_log
- new:function resload_Log which puts custom messages into the log
file .whdl_log, uses the same file as the FileLog/S facility
and requires that FileLog/S option is set so that messages
will be written
this function is intended to make it easier to debug/follow
alien code by adding trace messages to dump the execution
state at useful places
- new:option LogBuffer/K/N to control the size of the internal
buffer allocated for log messages by FileLog/S and
resload_Log
- new:function resload_VSNPrintF implementing a exec.RawDoFmt/
sprintflike string formatting routine
- new:kickfs.s has new option SNOOPFS which will cause in
conjunction with HDINIT all dos packets after processing to
be logged using resload_Log, the supplied perl script
chkunlock.pl can be used to search the log file for missing
dos.UnLock and dos.Close calls
- new:using the function resload_Control and the tags
WHDLTAG_CUST_DISABLE/READ/WRITE/STROBE the allowed custom
registers for Snoop*/S can be modified now
- chg:ReSource support files updated to cover recent WHDLoad
extensions
- new:added XAD support to the installer template script
- chg:external program SP to save pictures from dump files has been
improved to better support AGA screens (ddf, fmode, bplcon)
- chg:on the 68030 the instruction burst is now always enabled if
the instruction cache is enabled (Psygore)
- chg:the 68040 processor is now fully supported regarding the
special mmu features (Snoop, resload_Protect), the
implementation was planned since years, it was a lot of work
becausethe handling is very different to the 68030 und 68060,
although I'm unsure if this feature will be used much, I'm
happy to have it completed now
- chg:option ChkAudPt/S is also supported on the 68030 and 68040 now
- chg:the interrupt redirect feature of ACA500/Zeus is not used when
option NoVBRMove/S is set
- chg:PreloadSize/N will also be set by WHDLoad if ws_DontCache is
used in the Slave
some more end user related improvements are planned for the next
release :-)
