AmigaOS 4: Shareware board game Ami-Ingenious
Ami-Ingenious (screenshot) is a computer game of the board game Ingenious. The Shareware version includes requesters. A keyfile is available for 1,50 Euro. As soon as more than 30 Euro will have been earned by registrations, Ami-Ingenious will become Freeware.

AROS: 68k-Distribution AROS Vision 1.5.3
Olaf Schönweiß has updated his AROS/68k-distribution. It is a mix of AROS and AmigaOS software (English tutorial). Version 1.5.3 includes an unregistered version of WHDLoad. Real Amiga-Kickstart-ROMs must be installed by the user.
With this solution games can be played which currently do not work with the AROS Kickstart Replacement - the author mentioned "Defender of the Crown" as an example.
The next project of Olaf Schönweiß will be a "light"-version of "Aros Vision" for real Amiga hardware.

MorphOS: Keyboard layout switcher Keymap.sbar 20.17

AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 published
The AmigaOS -team has published update 5 for AmigaOS 4.1-users. Registered customers can download the update over the Hyperion website. All OS4-hardware-platforms are supported. The AmigaOne SE has not been mentioned any loger.
Besides the usual bug fixes, some highlights include:
- Optimized DMA copy routines for 440ep and 460ex based platforms.
- SM502 audio driver and Mixer for AmigaOne 500 systems (460ex).
- Updated Radeon, R200 and Permedia2 Warp3D drivers. Per-application configuration is now possible to help work around bugs in old software. User documentation is provided on the wiki.
- Catweasel driver for floppy disk, SID chip and joystick support.
- MIDI support now included via the camd.library.
- Professional photograph backgrounds provided by mediacube
- Improved Amiga 68K emulation. A full Workbench 3.1 installation is now included. Authentic Amiga ROMs and Workbench files are provided in the new Emulation drawer.

AmigaOne X1000: Costs for used CPU about 100% higher than expected
On amigaworld.net users discussed why the AmigaOne X1000 are delivered so slowly. Trevor Dickinson from A-EON also posted a comment: "There were some minor logistical delays from Varisys set against the backdrop of rising PA-SEMI CPU (~100%) prices and other components."
In a interview one and a half year ago Dickinson specified the costs for the PA Semi-CPU in the X1000 with 500. It is not clear if this is the original price or not.
Dickinson said: "We decided to absorb the hardware price rises and not pass them on to consumers."

EmuTOS CVS-20120813
The Atari-ST-compatible operating system EmuTOS for Amiga computers and emulators was updated and now it is possible to read standard ST/PC-disks (720 KB) (video). Writing disks as well as 800-KB-disks are not supported.

Additionally he has updated his compatibility site as well. It is based on WinUAE and the Kickstart-replacement-ROMs (from 4th August). Results of different versions of UAE should be similar, feedback is very welcome.

Open-Source-Project Nano VM: Developer für Amiga-port wanted
Stefan Pietzonke wrote: "For my virtual machine Nano I am looking for a developer who will create a build for AmigaOS and AROS.
Currently there are builds for Linux and Windows. Nano-applications can be launched on all supported systems without any changes.
For Nano VM there is an assembler and the N-compiler that I developed. With N it is easy to write programs which can use all features of the VM.
Nano supports multithreading, functions can be started as seperate thread. In the subversion-repository there is simple webserver as an example for multithreading."

AmigaOS 4: UADE 2.13r5 with TuneNet-Plugin
The "Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator" uses the hardware emulation of UAE as well as an interface for player plugins which is compatible to Delitracker and EaglePlayers to play a lot of different Amiga music formats. In version 2.13r5 among others a TuneNet-plugin was added.

Digital Audio Player plays audio CDs via AHI
Thomas Rapp's Digital Audio Player runs under AmigaOS 3/4 and plays mp3 and AIFF files as well as CDDA data and audio CDs. Because the program uses a buffer, audio CDs should be playable on a Sam460 without getting stuck. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Demo Scene: Assembly 2012 Amiga demos
From 2. to 5. August the Assembly 2012 took place in Helsinki (Finland). There not any Amiga-specific "competitions" any more. Amiga demos have to compete in the categories "Combined Demo" and "Oldskool Demo" or "PC 1k".

TAWS ("The Amiga Workbench Simulation") is a JavaScript simulation of the Amiga-Workbench 1.x - 3.x for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Apple-WebKit-Browser. Feedback is very welcome.
The changes of version 0.20 are listed within TAWS. Start TAWS and then open the System and afterwards the TAWS folder. Double-click the "History (english)" file.

AmigaOS 4: Vector paint program MindSpace 1.2b now Freeware
MindSpace is a paint program which can create Spider Diagrams, Mind Maps or Flowcharts. Version 1.2b which the author published as Shareware two years ago is now available for free.
The program has not been tested under the latest OS-updates and therefore "no guarantee is made to the efficacy or quality of the software."

AROS bounty: New developer wanted for Zune Enhancement Project
Krzysztof Smiechowicz has asked to no longer be assigned to the Zune Enhancement bounty project. Currently 530 US-Dollar were donated. Krzysztof 'deadwood' Smiechowicz estimates that he has finished about 20 % and he is ready to provide support for a new developer.

AmigaOS 4 / MorphOS / AROS: XAMOS 0.26
The latest alpha version 0.26 of the C++ and SDL based AMOS-reimplementation called XAMOS has been published for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS/x86.
The update adds support for several screens, fixes bugs of the collision detection and adds further examples.

MorphOS: Scriba 0.2.0 imports OpenDocument text files
Version 0.2.0 of Carsten Siegner's word processing software Scriba which is still in development can now import OpenDocument text files of OpenOffice.
Additionally the new version 1.2 of the thumbnail viewer ShowOffice is included in directory C which now also supports the Scriba format.

Arcade game: Gravity Beam

Ancient Domains of Mystery: ADOM 1.2.0 Prerelease 1
After almost ten years Thomas Biskup and Jochen Terstiege have published an update of Ancient Domains of Mystery which is available for Amiga as versions for 68000, 68020 and 68040 processors.
Nearly four weeks before the end of the pledge campaign almost 29.000 US-Dollar have been donated.
If there will be further prereleases depends on the attainment of the 48.000-Dollar goal. These prereleases will be only available for those people who at least pledged 25 Dollar. The final version 1.2.0 then will be available for all. This version will be published "probably something like 4-7 months after the end of the campaign."

MorphOS: ScummVM 1.5.0

MorphOS: LowEndMac article "Amiga Operating System Meets PowerPC Macs"
LowEndMac is a website which is about older Apple computers. In an English-language article under the title link, Sebastian Patting has introduced MorphOS to other Mac users and emphasized the speed of performance of this operating system.
His conclusion: "And it's for those Macintosh users who like to experiment and experience a new operating system on their PowerPC Macs. That's where I see myself, and I had a lot of fun playing around with MorphOS on my eMac.
It is not a full OS X replacement, but it can come close to it, depending on your computer needs. My advice: Download the 30 minute demo and try it out. Try to do your daily and usual tasks for some days and see if MorphOS suits you."

AROS: DOS-Scripts for saving and restoring system configurations

AmigaOS 4: Hurrican 1.0.0.7 and Wazp3D beta version 53.2
With support of Alain Thelliers who provided an update of his software renderer Wazp3D, Hugues 'HunoPPC' Nouvel's AmigaOS-4 port of the Turrican-clone Hurrican now is available in version 1.0.0.7.
With this update the compositing2D rendering was "enhanced and now supports transparency (you can now see in water and menus are highlighted)". Additionally "ScreenSaverEngine is now disabled when playing, code has been cleaned up, a sprite menu selector has been added."

AmigaOS 4: System restore with AmiSystemRestore r1 (beta version)
The first public beta version of Chris Handley's AmiSystemRestore introduces a Windows-like system restore for AmigaOS 4 and "allows you to undo all recent changes (whether or not they were done by the installer), and return SYS: to an earlier point in time."
"If you are installing something using AmiUpdate or the official Installer system, then AmiSystemRestore will automatically create Restore Points for you (and Ringhio messages should notify you of this)."

AmigaOS 4: Bounty for VPDF-port
From version 3.0 on MorphOS includes VPDF which is a PDF viewer. "It is faster than APFD and have better comatibility with PDF format in general."

AROS: Patch 01 for Icaros Desktop 1.4.5

AmigaOS 4: Timberwolf 4.0.1.0213 - RC2 (Update)
Today "Release Candidate 2" of the Firefox-port Timberwolf has been published for AmigaOS 4.
For the further development the aim is to achieve the current status of the Firefox. This has not been possible to realize as part of the finished bounty project because it would be a fast-moving goal. After the release of AmigaOS 4.2 as an absolute necessity for it, OpenGL and WebGL support will be added and thus Timberwolf will be completely hardware accelerated.
The update fixes the following bugs:
- The UI font size now adapts correctly to the system's default font
- Downloaded files can now be directly opened with user-selectable programs, for example, you can use UnArc to open a newly downloaded archive
- Should now work without RANDOM mounted, it will fall back to using pseudo-random numbers (i.e. rand in newlib). RANDOM is an entropy collector, and thus generates much more reliable random numbers. If you can, use RANDOM:
- Should be slightly faster now (html5 benchmark said between 0 and 20 % faster) due to new Cairo build (latest version). Don't expect miracles, though
- The bookmark database is now using a new scheme that should make concurrent access possible. This was necessary to make sure that the user interface is correctly enabled when the browser is launched with a web page (home page/command line). The upside is that it might now work on JXFS (please try). The downside is that this has to be tested and might make it necessary to have an rc3

According to first tests of users, version RC2 seems to cause more considerable problems compared to the previous version. At the moment therefore we cannot recommend to install this version.

Event: Meeting of Belgian Amiga Club
This Saturday evening the Belgian Amiga-Club will meet in the Mouterij in Zwijndrecht in John Tulpinckstraat 15. Users if all Amiga systems are welcome.
Several Amigas will be presented as well as MorphOS 3.1 on an Apple Powerbook. Joseph Duchâtelet will present Gui4Cli, Laurent by Amedia Computer Lux S.A. the FPGA-Arcade- / Replay-Board and Bert Jahn his WHDLoad which can be registered there for 10 Euro.

Workbench replacement: X-bEnCH 0.5 (beta version)
X-bEnCH is a graphical user-interface with 128 colours which replaces the Workbench for starting WHDLoad games (.slave, .exe).
According to the developer the program runs on all Amigas (OCS to AGA as well as 68000 to 68060 processor) and requires little virtual memory. This is the first public beta release after 4 public alpha releases. Changes:
- Very First cLi implementation (Just as test for the moment)
- Fixed Display failure on NTSC Machine.
- FIxed a bug that was craching non AGA Amiga on startup.
- Fixed the color palette bug on exit to your wbench.
- Fixed a slowing bug when going to left/right in the launcher.
- Credits added fastly in the menu some minutes before releasing.
- Fixed a display bug in the Setup that made the list type display to don't change after that a list have been updated.
- Corrected the "invalid object" bug in your listings. But you must update all buggeds lists to correct this issue.
- Fixed the Flashing sound/screen bug in some Whdload games/demos with the Preload Option by default.
- Better progression indicator when you update a list.
- Fixed many display bugs

AmigaOS 4: PDFToolkit 1.0
Lazar Zoltan's PDFToolkit - it is not to be confused with pdftk from the Linux-world - can merge PDF-documents or split them into single documents. Additionally it can combine two or three PDF files by stamping over or add header/footer/page numbering to existed documents keeping the contents intact.
PDFToolkit was written in Python. Therefore the user-interface (screenshot) could not be realized with Reaction. The program requires the basic Python installation as well as the pyPDF-module written by Mathieu Fenniak.

AROS: Quake II ported
According to the developers the Yamagi-version of the Quake-II-client includes more than thousand bug fixes and is completely compatible to modern 64-bit-processors. Now it was ported to AROS. The original files are required.

Sirena AHIW 1.20
According to the developers Sirena AHIW is "an easy program to handle your pictures to use on your web pages" and is available for AmigaOS 3.5/3.9, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and Windows (screenshot).
The updated version 1.20 includes bug fixes and now the possibility to drop files into the application window.

AROS: AEROS-Distribution R3 and AresOne 2012
Pascal Papara's AROS-distribution AEROSis available in version R3 (screenshot, video).
His complete PC-system AresOne also was updated which can be ordered at Vesalia. The basic model now already includes a Nvidia-8400 graphic board in order to be able using 3D-acceleration.
New features of the AEROS-version R3:
- PowerOff, reboot from Quickstarter (AROS side)
- ScummVM games
- New Jabberwocky
- JanusUAE 1.2 incl. AROS Vision 68k Distro from Olaf Schönweiß (Video)
- Removed non-working stuff

- K3B has been replaced by Xfburn (lightweight burning tool)

- Added Terminator as main Terminal (allows to run multiple terminal sessions in one window)
- Added Hurrican (use grandr - also newly added - to change resolution to 640x480 to get fullscreen)
- Added two games to ScummVM (AROS): Beneath a steel sky and Drascula
As live-DVD AEROS R3 starts with best available screen solution. After the installation on harddrive a graphic board driver and then also a different screen solution can be chosen.

AROS: Icaros Desktop 1.4.5
Paolo Besser's AROS-distribution Icaros Desktop version 1.4.5 includes an improved support of Amiga software, the game Hurrican as well as applications like Cinnamon Writer and Ignition. AMOS Professional and XAMOS also are part of the distribution.
"The new extension to AmiBridge already allow running most classic desktop applications for the Amiga computer without the need of its boot ROMs and original OS anymore. Classic software is handled by AROS itself, compiled for the Motorola 68000 processor, running in coherency mode under Janus-UAE with JIT."

PPC-Hardware: UltimatePPC-team reconsiders processor choice
The UltimatePPC team wrote: "As we are nearing the summer holidays it is time for a quick status update from our side. The last few months have been hectic as both Gideon and myself have been extremely busy with personal affairs besides trying to advance the UltimatePPC project. As we have the prototype boards in our hands we have been actively working on booting a basic kernel on the PowerPC core and interfacing the board to the Amiga bus. Parallel we are starting the software development side of things, with WarpOS support being worked on - as well as first contact with Hyperion regarding AmigaOS4 support.
We also keep an eye on feedback from the community and are evaluating the choice made for the P1013 CPU.We knew that the FPU in this processor is incompatible with the ones found on older PowerPC boards. Our original plan to fix these incompatibilities in software turns out to have more impact that we had foreseen. For this reason, we will reconsider the choice of PowerPC CPU, while continuing the development work of other important stuff on the current prototype.
So what's next? First we'll take a few weeks off for holidays and time with family. Somewhere in August we get together again. Expect a new update end of August! Happy holidays!"
Editor's note: The main feature of the UltimatePPC would have been that the used controler (as System on a Chip (SoC)) could have been accessed from "outside" (in this case from the Amiga). If a different CPU would be chosen it is doubtful whether this concept still works.
