A-EON Technology: Third AmigaOne-X1000-Charge before delivery
According to AmigaKit under the title link, the Nemo-boards produced by Varisys have arrived. Thus the delivery of the third charge of the AmigaOne X1000 "First Contact" is before delivery. All those persons who have ordered in advance and did not get any message, then please contact the dealer because some of the eMail addresses are not valid any longer or some of the mailboxes seem to be overcrowded.

Pictures of the boards as well as a image magnification of the Cyrus-Plus-2.0-prototype yesterday Trevor Dickinson posted in his blog. The limited beta test program could start at the end of the year.

The blog entry also mentioned a playing device for Internet video streams developed by Roku. According to Trevor Dickinson, the former Amiga developers Dale Luck and Carl Sassenrath are working for this company. (snx) (Translation: dr)

PC OpenSystems LLC: Distribution agreement with Cloanto for Amiga Forever
PC OpenSystems LLC announces that the company has acquired a licence to distribute the emulator FS-UAE as well as Cloanto's AmigaOS-package Amiga Forever together with its own Operating System.

These applications can now be purchased for a surcharge of 55 US-Dollar in addition to OS4 OpenLinux. Delivery will start next Tuesday.

Update: (15.07.2013, 21:45, cg)

Michael Battilana from Cloanto told us that there was an "initial contact" with Roberto Dohnert from PC OpenSystems, but that there is no contract between both parties. He assumes that PC OpenSystems is simply selling Amiga Forever licenses it purchased from other resellers. According to Battilana, that would also explain the higher prices Dohnert asks for Amiga Forever. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Windows: Kickstarter-Project for Bone and Sprite Integration System
BASIS, the Bone and Sprite Integration System, is a Windows application for creating sprites for 2D-animations.

Under the title link now a Kickstarter-project was established to accelerate the development of the software. Why it is interesting for Amiga-users? Although the program only is available for Windows and most likely it will be only ported to Linux and Mac OS X, there is a Hollywood-plugin. That means that all created sprites can be also used for Amiga games. (snx) (Translation: dr)

AROS: AEROS beta version 3 for Raspberry Pi
For registered customers and purchasers via eBay, a third beta version of Pascal Papara's Debian-Linux-hosted AROS-distribution AEROS for Raspberry Pi is available (video). For all other users, the free beta version 1 is available.

According to Pascal Papara, AEROS works with 40 MB RAM: Debian and AROS requires 68 MB, 32 MB are kept free for AROS. But only 4 MB actually are used by AROS in the basic state.

Some new app with Icons and icons for already installed apps as follows have been added:
  • Gimp 2.8
  • Audaciuos (Winamp like audio player)
  • LibreOffice
  • Dillo (brower which starts instantly and is ok for Amiga releated websites)
  • Netsurf (better compatibility and somewhere between Dillo and Midori in terms of performance)
  • Midori
  • VLC (don't expect wonders! Remember to buy codecs from the raspberry guys on raspberry.org)
  • DOSBOX (feels like on ATOM systems)
  • E-UAE (yes but no AROS68k yet - will follow with next version together with PUAE)
  • Leafpad (Text Editor, lightweight)
  • SCUMMVM + Beneath a stell sky + Flight of the Amazon queen

MorphOS: TeX Live 2012
TeX Live is the most extensive TeX-distribution available for MorphOS and now was ported by Oliver Urbann. It can be downloaded under the title link as Torrent-file.

Some parts of the typesetting system are still missing, e.g. some Unicode-tools, Xetex and Luatex, but the most important parts already work like PDFLatex, Bibtex and all TeX/LaTeX-packages. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Bill McEwen founded and sold "Amiga Games Inc."
On June 20th, 2013 a company called "Amiga Games Inc." founded by Bill McEwen, was included in the register of companies. The company has its headquarters in Maple Valley, Washington. There is also a website, but so far it only presents a HTML implementation of the BoingBall demo.

In a press release (see below) the "Writer's Group Film Corp." has announced that it acquired the company from McEwen and is going to sell more than 300 classic Amiga games for smartphones and tablets. Amiga Games Inc. was purchased with Writers' Group common stock and cash valued at approximately $500,000. The Writers Group seems to be a publicly traded company. The current price for one of the 923 millions stock options is 0,0006 USD.

Writers' Group Film Corp. Announces Execution of Definitive Term Sheet for New Acquisition of Amiga Games Inc.

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 8, 2013) - Writers' Group Film Corp. (OTCQB: WRIT) a Los Angeles-based content distribution company, announced that it has signed a binding definitive term sheet for the acquisition of Amiga Games Inc. ("AGI"), a company which licenses classic video game libraries and re-publishes the most popular titles for smartphones, modern game consoles, PCs, and tablets. Leveraging the intellectual property of Amiga Inc., AGI builds on the "Amiga" brand and technology to create new revenue from publisher's dormant game libraries. AGI resurrects classic Amiga games and other classic titles, by giving them new life on today's gaming platforms: smartphones, PCs, consoles, and tablets. Older gamers can replay favorites from the past, while a new generation of gamers can experience these excellent titles as fresh content.

The Amiga Games Inc. transaction consists of the acquisition of 100% of the common stock in Amiga Games Inc. in exchange for Writers' Group common stock and cash valued at approximately $500,000. The 300+ gaming titles to be distributed by Amiga Games are available to the company under existing licensing agreements with various intellectual property owners. Writers' Group will be making additional announcements over the next several weeks regarding Amiga Games' new and existing distribution arrangements with the best-selling smartphone, tablet and other device manufacturers.

Eric Mitchell, Chairman and CEO of Writers' Group commented, "We are pleased to be working with this well-managed game developer and distributor, and we are excited that we are participating in their growth story through this acquisition. We believe Amiga Games has an established value proposition that can enhance both revenues and returns to our bottom line." Companies: WRITERS' GROUP FILM CORP., AMIGA GAMES INC.

IRC-record: Conversation with Steven Solie, team leader AmigaOS 4
This week the team of the English-language IRC-channel "Ashachat" talked to Steven Solie who is the team leader of the AmigaOS 4-team. Solie explained that A-EON hopes to deliver some of the announced Cyrus-motherboard to beta testers until October. Furthermore he said that it is still too early to give detailed information about the content and parts of AmigaOS 4.2. The Netbook-project has to be sidetracked because the producer of the hardware permanently changed its demands and information.

The full record:
(08.07.2013, 00:00 Uhr, #Team*AMIGA auf irc.superhosts.net)

<Kelli217> Okay, welcome to the second in a hopefully two-episode series of Q&As with people of note to the Amiga community.
<Kelli217> With us today is Steven Solie. ssolie, give a little opening spiel, then we'll get to questions.
<ssolie> A speech? ok.. ok...
<Kelli217> nothing big, a paragraph or two
<ssolie> I call myself the AmigaOS Development Team Lead
<ssolie> that means I herd cats.. I mean try to organize all the professionals working on AmigaOS
<ssolie> I usually converse with everyone associated with AmigaOS in one way or another.
<ssolie> My hope is that I can answer some questions which the Amiga community at large have.
<ssolie> so, fire away...
<Kelli217> <CDeth> have you been in contact with the developers of ultimateppc, on getting it to work with os4x?
<ssolie> I remember those guys. They emailed me a while back asking if 4.x would run on their hardware.
<ssolie> We have not really chatted since. Perhaps they are waiting on me or I am waiting on them?
<ssolie> In any case, I haven't seen any hardware yet.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <alef> Hi, Steven. I guess I am off topic; NAF (http://amiga.no/) sent 2 emails to both Amiga Inc. and Hyperion about licensing Amiga name for promo products like this: http://garantert.net/Amiga/promo/AmigaNO-Tshirt.jpg ...but no answer...Can we get an official license? We want to build a promo product series for sale, but want to do it legally
<ssolie> yeah, that can be tricky I know
<ssolie> both Amiga Inc. and Hyperion have lawyers that must approve things and they are a tad shy sometimes
<ssolie> for Amiga Inc, you should use their contact form on their web site... hopefully that is enough to get their attention
<ssolie> for Hyperion you could try emailing me and I'll forward on the request to Ben Hermans
<ssolie> I know Hyperion have granted license but I'm not so sure about Amiga Inc.
<ssolie> licenses that is
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> can you comment on which of the major features mentioned back at amiwest 2010 -- and recently on the hyperion blog -- will make it into AmigaOS 4.2? multi-core support? an openGL stack? the long awaited, A-EON-funded, W3D drivers for radeonHD cards, etc.?
<ssolie> If I knew myself I would tell you. :-)
<ssolie> Basically, we work hard on all the features and at some point Hyperion says "ship it" and we figure out which pieces are high enough quality to include.
<Ken> hold up for a few min guys :-)
<ssolie> So I could take a guess at which ones are going to make it but really it is early.
<ssolie> I was just talking to Timothy (a Hyperion director) and they are getting anxious to ship something so that's good news I suppose
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <broadblues> Do you consider yourself an amiga god or merely a saint?
<Kelli217> ;)
<ssolie> lol... I seem to remember asking this of myself today. :-)
<ssolie> It's a joke guys. Calm down moo bunny crowd. :-)
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> can you comment as to 1) why hyperion has ceased open communication regarding planned features and development milestones reached, and 2) will hyperion reconsider?
<ssolie> There was some discussion about this recently.
<ssolie> Hyperion was posting on AmigaWorld.net about all sorts of things.
<ssolie> As many know, it didn't work out very well... ;-)
<ssolie> So it seems the mode of operation will be shut up until it ships again. Sorry, but that is the current policy.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> The next 423 questions come from eliyahu. Wait just a moment while I try to get them ready.
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> can you comment on if updated printer drivers via gutenprint, CUPS, or the like will be integrated into AOS4 at some point? in the OS4.2 release?
<ssolie> It is certainly on my radar now.
<ssolie> I would like to see some more investment in printing.
<ssolie> However, we don't really have the devs to handle printing at the moment. It is not a job most devs want to be honest.
<ssolie> Once Gutenprint is up to snuff we will of course want to see that included.
<ssolie> I haven't seen much discussion about CUPS recently.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> can you discuss just how far along development of AOS got to support the netbook project before it was cancelled? when and why was it cancelled?
<ssolie> It boots up to Workbench.
<ssolie> The project has not been cancelled to my knowledge.
<ssolie> It is officially "on hold" last time we chatted about it.
<ssolie> I know A-Eon did some work to try and revive that project and that didn't work out.
<ssolie> The main problem seems to be that the manufacturer keeps changing their story (and pricing).
<ssolie> So, if (big if) they come back to Earth we still might see that go forward is my understanding.
<ssolie> It is a real shame the rules were changed after the announcement at AmiWest... I guess that is why Hyperion doesn't like to say things.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> are there any SDK updates planned in the near future? what would be included/updated?
<ssolie> I plan to release an updated SDK before the AmiWest show in October to support the programming classes being offered.
<ssolie> I was going to do the work myself so I can say that.
<ssolie> I just have to finish up a couple of other things first.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> how many developers are still actively contributing to AOS4 development? how many active beta testers do you currently have?
<ssolie> I don't believe I am allowed to divulge figures on anything.
<ssolie> However, I can point out we have had 44 updates since Update 6 and I just added two new developers to the team this week.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> will there be any look-and-feel changes in the GUI for OS4.2? what is planned?
<ssolie> Yes, our artist friends just love to change that look every major release.
<ssolie> I'm not sure myself what they have planned but I'm sure it will look great.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> Okay, wow, those 423 questions went by fast. Next one up is... <alef> who is the correct source to contact regarding Amiga license? Amiga Inc or Hyperion?
<ssolie> That is difficult to answer because it depends on which mark you want to license.
<ssolie> If you are talking the Amiga mark then Amiga Inc. is the place to go shopping.
<ssolie> If you are looking for AmigaOne or the Boing Ball then Hyperion can help you out.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <ddni> do betatesters have warp3d on their x1000?
<ssolie> I suppose that is a sneaky way of asking when A-Eon's Warp3D driver will be ready.
<ssolie> That would be A-Eon's question to answer.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <vapor> Now that AmigaOS has sudo open hardware why aren't more drivers being developed for varoius cards etc..? From this user...The NG hardware is not an A500.
<ssolie> Hmmm... not sure about the question there.
<ssolie> Maybe you mean 3rd party PCI cards and such.
<ssolie> Well, don't depend on Hyperion to do all the work. If there is some PCI card out there you like try posting the forums and see if you can get the attention of 3rd party devs.
<ssolie> What I can do is help the 3rd party devs.
<ssolie> We can provide access to details and even do special fixes if they need them.
<ssolie> I am also working on an updated Amiga device example for the wiki all in C.
<ssolie> This will help out 3rd party devs as well.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <TheKorn> Are you currently using an Amiga for this Q&A session? If so which model?
<ssolie> I'm using an iPad at the moment.
<ssolie> My Amigas are busy compiling OS code and I have one driving another.
<ssolie> I figured if they crashed and burned you would no appreciate the in/out messages.
<ssolie> not
<ssolie> I have an AmigaOne 500 and an AmigaOne X1000 working together at the moment.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <ddni> we all assume 4.2 will come as a package. is this still the case or will auto update deliver it iteratively?
<ssolie> The plan is to deliver 4.2 as a package again (e.g. ISO, instruction booklet, etc.)
<ssolie> I would also like to see a "download only" option to save a few bucks.
<ssolie> I don't know if Hyperion will go for that but I try. :-)
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <Derfs> can you tell us anything about a workbench replacement?
<ssolie> I'm not keen on scrapping code. You lose many man-years of work when you toss code.
<ssolie> I'm hoping we can enhance the current Workbench to the point it is more modern.
<ssolie> There is a bit of disagreement in the dev team on this but such are these things.
<ssolie> At least some work is being done in that direction now.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <^ktadd> I've made good use of the programming modules at AmiWest. Any chance of doing a debug module this year?
<ssolie> That is actually the focus this year at AmiWest.
<ssolie> at http://wiki.amigaos.net in the Tutorials section you'll see a quick synopsis of what is planned
<ssolie> look under the "AmiWest 2013 Programming Conference Synopsis"
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <alef> I guess I am off topic; I put myself on the AmigaOne X1000 order list. Any news about delivery and/or production run?
<ssolie> That is an A-Eon question but I think I can elaborate a little without being shot. :)
<ssolie> The demand for the X1000 continues to be strong.
<ssolie> They will keep making more as long as demand is there... I think you have a good chance of getting one.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <duga> Will you drop support for any of the hardware supported in 4.1 when you release 4.2?
<ssolie> I had the question when I talked to Timothy today...
<ssolie> A decision is still pending on what platforms will still be supported.
<ssolie> The big question is classic.
Sales are still strong so it is difficult to just say "No more platform X" when they give you money. :)
<ssolie> So as of right now, everything is still supported. We certainly didn't branch the code base or anything.
<ssolie> However, management could decide otherwise. The code will be ready either way.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <noXLar> will ahi audio system be updated?
<ssolie> I have heard some rumbling from a certain developer regarding AHI recently myself.
<ssolie> There is no current focus on replacing/repairing AHI but I suspect that could change.
<ssolie> We have been updating the driver recently.
<ssolie> drivers even
<ssolie> The Envy24HT and HDAudio drivers for example.
<ssolie> As long as AHI isn't "in the way" we will keep it as is.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <broadblues> What can you tell us about Cyrus?
<ssolie> He is some Greek architect.
<ssolie> long dead
<ssolie> or do you mean the new boards?
<ssolie> :)
<ssolie> Again, an A-Eon question but I can speak a little to it.
<ssolie> We have a Freescale P5020 on those guys.
<ssolie> The hope is to have beta systems running by AmiWest timeframe.
<ssolie> but you never know with brand new hardware... it takes a little while to hammer out the issues
<ssolie> The cost should be between a Sam460ex and an X1000 I believe but A-Eon needs to confirm that one.
<ssolie> I am really excited about Cyrus myself. that is one great board..
<ssolie> A-Eon will be blogging/new releasing about it soon I expect.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <ddni> any comments on Hollywood being made available for sale again? Is its approach to coding valued by core devs?<ddni> any comments on Hollywood being made available for sale again? Is its approach to coding valued by core devs?
<Kelli217> OOps, double paste...
<ssolie> I just found about Hollywood this morning.
<ssolie> I certainly value Hollywood and I have a copy.
<ssolie> I also know some really hate Hollywood for some reason.
<ssolie> I suppose it is the whole idea of a layer on top of the OS or something.
<ssolie> I'm not sure what the other core developers think about Hollywood but I've never heard anything negative from them.
<ssolie> It is great product overall. Highly recommended.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <ddni> Current support for hyperions game back catalogue is patchy in os4. Will this improve? shogo heretic2 etc
<ssolie> This may be surprising but I don't really speak for Hyperion directly.
<ssolie> So I don't know what they have planned for their catalog really.
<ssolie> I keep focused on AmigaOS as much as possible.
<ssolie> We will keep adding better support for their games of course as necessary.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <Derfs> do you see contribs for AmigaOS 4.2 using Qt? what do you think of alfkil's work?
<ssolie> I fully support the Qt effort.
<ssolie> Hyperion have said as much as well.
<ssolie> It is really great work and I have worked with Alfkil directly to help him out.
<ssolie> Alfkil tends to find bugs in the deepest places in the OS... he's good.
<ssolie> At one point we discussed using Qt as a GUI replacement even.
<ssolie> That may or may not happen but shows you the importance of that effort.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <tekmage> the P5020 is the e5500 core, will the e500MC or e6500 be supported as well?
<ssolie> Hmm... that's a lot of number and letter combinations there.
<ssolie> In other words, I don't really know the details and can't answer at this time.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <vapor> Should the AmigaOS community align itself with any particular Linux distro in a co-operative manner? Your opinion?
<ssolie> I suspect this has something to do with last week's special guest.
<ssolie> I think the AmigaOS community can do whatever it wants to do.
<ssolie> I can only help to try and build the best AmigaOS we can and give the users something to use and enjoy.
<ssolie> If you guys want to go cooperate with the "OS4" Linux distribution that is your business
<ssolie> Personally, I don't have time to be distracted.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> ALL: No more question submissions, please... we want to wrap things up soon.
<Kelli217> <noXLar> will Dockies be updated with the upcoming AOS 4.2?
<ssolie> I haven't looked into Dockies in a while to be honest.
<ssolie> Yes, we should at least fix some more bugs in that area.
<ssolie> Thanks for the reminder. :)
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <ddni> amicygnix. manna from heaven or devil spawn?
<ssolie> I have personally donated to AmiCygnix several times. The value of X-Windows should not be overlooked.
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> <duga> Any news on Spotify support in OS 4.1 (own client or the web player that's relying on Flash support)?
<ssolie> I have not had a status report from the Spotify guys in a while.
<ssolie> I suspect they are busy with other platforms but I don't know.
<ssolie> next questino
<ssolie> question
<Kelli217> Actually, I cleared my question queue a tiny bit early. Any final comments or summaries?
<ssolie> I tried to type fast. :)
<Kelli217> :)
<ssolie> Sorry I don't have all the direct answers...
<Kelli217> Well, instead of answers, any heartfelt pleas for understanding and compassion? ;)
<ssolie> well... could you guys please stop fighting on amigaworld.net ?
<ssolie> it is really getting out of hand... come on.
<Kelli217> Ah, one last question and a thank you
<ssolie> I couldn't believe the amount of bickering in the Silicon Dreams/VCF topic
<JimS> If Amigans didn't fight, they wouldn't be Amigans. ;-D
<Kelli217> <noXLar> would the network stack be updated to modern standard?
<ssolie> Depends what you consider to be modern of course... I assume IPv6
<ssolie> I don't see much point in updating the stack to just support IPv4
<ssolie> I do want to add better wireless support.
<ssolie> beyond that, we need a new IPv6 stack and that project is a ways off
<ssolie> next question
<Kelli217> And finally, this thank you: <alef> I gotta say I think we all appreciate the work of Steven Solie and all the rest of the coders. We wish you all luck in your hard work towards a better future for the NG Amiga.
<ssolie> back to asha chat?
<Kelli217> yep.
<Valiant> Agreed, thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to update us
<ssolie> thanks Kelli217 !!!
<Ken> thanks ssolie :-D
<JimS> Yep, thanks for visiting us
<Kelli217> We now return you to your reagularly scheduled craziness. (cg) (Translation: dr)

E-Mail-Client: YAM 2.8p1 for all Amiga systems
The YAM-Open-Source-team has released version 2.8 of the MUI-based mail programm which mainly fixes several bugs. There are archives for all Amiga systems, e.g. AROS x86, x64 and PPC. The most important changes compared with the previous version:
  • updated translations for czech, greek, swedish, french, spanish, italian, turkish language.
  • fixed an issue related to BetterString.mcc which cause YAM to crash.
  • extended the ADDRLOAD command to take a second parameter OPEN/S to immediately open then address book window after the address book file has been loaded successfully.
  • added a new option in the hidden section of the configuration. Setting the option "OverrideFromAddress" to "Y" will add a recipient string object below the identity chooser in the write window. The contents default to the chosen identity's address but can be modified freely. This makes it possible to use a different From: address than the one configured in the identity while still using all other settings like the SMTP server.
  • renamed the 'Bounce' mail functionality for redirecting emails to alternative recipients to 'Redirect' as that better reflects the purpose of this functionality and should not confuse users anymore. Also adapted the functionality to add all well-known Resent-#? headers to redirected emails. This should adapt YAM to be somehwat more RFC compliant. Furthermore, a Resent-CC and Resent-BCC can now be specified. In addition, YAM will now allow to bounce to multiple emails in one operation. That means, a user can now select more than one mail in the mail listview and when a redirect operation is performed YAM will redirect all of these mails in one run.
  • fixed bug where hidden Cc, BCC or Reply-To string gadgets could have ended up at wrong positions when hiding/showing them dynamically in the write window.
  • fixed a bug where 'new' mail was never changed to 'unread' status if it was moved to a subfolder. Now the index of all folders carrying 'new' mail will be loaded and the status adapted accordingly.
  • fixed a problem where under certain setups the automatically chosen full qualified domain name (FQDN) was unluckily chosen and thus mail sending being rejected when using YAM. Now YAM should use a better mechanism and even let you override the FQDN using a new hidden 'MachineFQDN' option.
  • fixed a crash where it could have happened that YAM accessed an invalid memory location when creating a new mail.
  • added a new 'WRITEIDENTITY' ARexx command to let a script choose the user identity to be used when composing a new mail via ARexx.
  • fixed a bug where the signature settings of a folder got lost when updating from YAM versions <= 2.7 to 2.8
  • fixed a crash when entering certain text in the CC string gadget of a write window.
  • fixed some problems with the new Drafts folder managment where emails could end up duplicated. In addition, the 'Hold' button has been renamed to 'Save to Drafts' to better differentate between the operations.
  • fixed a bug where the number of mails in the outgoing folder was not correctly set when a mail was moved by mail filter operation.
  • fixed a bug where the From: address was not properly restored when the hidden "OverrideFromAddress" option had been used.
  • fixed a bug where keeping the write window open for a while could suddenly crash YAM.
  • fixed some crashes related to virtual email display (e.g. opening .eml attachments).
  • fixed a bug in the mail header parsing routines where a header line starting with a newline cause problems.
  • fixed a memory trashing problem where toolbar images of different sizes cause some memory leaks within TheButton.mcc.
  • fixed a bug where resaving a mail in the drafts folder caused the mail active/inactive state to get messed up.
  • modified remote filters to be applied when getting the single message details. This makes it possible to let the filters check all available information but it also requires the user to wait until the details of all new mails have been received. Otherwise it could have happened that some mails were not received although they should be filtered out.
  • fixed a crash bug when deleting a folder group.
  • fixed some incorrect dimensions of certain theme images.

Event: First reports of Silicon Dreams & Vintage Computer Festival (update)
The Silicon Dreams & Vintage Computer Festival is taking place in Coalville (amiga-news.de reported). AmigaOS-, MorphOS- and AROS-users as well as the British dealer AmigaKit and A-EON Technology are taking part.

Since yesterday A-EON Technology presents pictures of its booth on its Facebook-sites which show two new mainboards (Boards, schema).

Meanwhile the visitor 'Rob' has made available a first explanation. It seems to be a DualCore-PowerPC-SOC of the model P5020, without a SouthBridge and the board is called Cyrus and Cyrus+. The first one is a MicroATX-board and the last one has, similar to the AmigaOne X1000, the ATX-format. The optional use of a P5040 (QuadCore) will be possible later, most likely due to a low PCIe-controller-capacity only for the MicroATX-version.

The price of Cyrus will be between the Sam-boards delivered by ACube Systems and the AmigaOne X1000. But the boards will be not available in ther near future because among others drivers are still missing. The AmigaOne X1000 is still always available.

Update: (19:00, 08.07.13, dr)
Additionally the video of a short interview with Trevor Dickinson (A-EON Technology) has been published. Furthermore it was clarified that it is still not decided if actually two mainboards will be available: The presented MicroATX was the first prototype, the ATX-board the second one. The ATX-board is supposed to be the target format if there will be only one version; new mainboard drivers would be necessary. Therefore again extension boards for sound output and network would be used. The processor would have 2 GHz and use DDR3-RAM; additionally again a Xorro-Slot is planned.

2. Update: (19:18, 10.07.13, snx)
Meanwhile another video has been published, containing an extended interview with Trevor Dickinson as well as one with Matthew Leaman (AmigaKit). (snx) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: Qt 4.7 (0.9.0), several Qt-ports, competition
Alfkil Wennermark has updated his AmigaOS-4-port of the C++-class library Qt. Due to the size of the archive it will be only available on sourceforge.net and not on OS4Depot any longer. Additionally Wennermark has released some ports of Qt-based applications:
  • MuseScore is a music notation software which can export the projects as PDF or MIDI files
  • The Jabber-client Vacuum-IM
  • JuffEd, a powerful text editor with Syntax-Highlighting
  • Wally changes desktop background pictures and for that allows the access to Google Images, Photobucket, Picasa and others
  • Screengrab creates screenshots
  • The simple animation editor Pencil can e.g. create SWF-files
  • FlasQ was written by Wennermark himself and is an editor for animations as well
  • The simple paint program EasyPaint
  • The game OpenGOO
Wennermark challenges other programmers to contest: Those developer who will port the most Qt-applications or develop them until August 30th will get an excellent and amazing prize. The applications have to run on a X1000 as well as on a SAM. For more difficult ports or self-developments additional points will be awarded.

If you have questions about the development under Qt you are welcome to contact Wennermark. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Unreleased games: "New" previews of Secret of my Soul
You might remember Soms3D ("Secret of my Soul") which is a Silent Hill-clone and which was started to develop ten years ago to be released on APC&TCP.

But there was a two-dimensional, previous version called Secret of my Soul which was developed first in C++, later in AMOS. Now the developer Sylvio Kurze has released two demo versions of this game. In both versions the character only can run around but not interact with its environment. A screenshot-mockup shows what the next step in the development would have looked like.

The two demos:

DS-Demo-final.zip ( MB)

Last version, written in AMOS. Requires a lowres-screen with 256 colours (graphic boards are supported). On PowerPC-prozessors some PPC-routines are used.

soms_0.6.4.1.zip ( MB)

Older version, written in C++. Completely different graphics, background music. (cg) (Translation: dr)

PC OpenSystems LLC has announced "Amiga OpenLinux" and AmigaOS support
Roberto J. Dohnert from PC OpenSystems LLC did participate in an IRC-chat with Amiga users last night.

Some hours before the chat, on amigaworld.net Dohnert published a list of those things realize for which he and his team are going to realize for AmigaOS: Among others ports of Qt, Gtk, Java and Chromium.

Almost at the same time with the chat on os4online.com a new blog entry was published which once again anounces a new logo for Dohnert's Linux distribution: A white/red BoingBall - which is not tilted to the right, but to the left side and (according to Dohnert) "which will spin in the new Plymouth theme and not bounce".

The complete record of the chat:
(01.07.2013, 00:00 Uhr, #Team*AMIGA auf irc.superhosts.net)

<Kelli217> Ladies and gentlemen, Roberto J. Dohnert.
* Ken gibt Voice-Status an rjdohnert
<rjdohnert> Hey guys how are you doing. My name is Roberto, I am the CEO of PC OpenSystems LLC out of North Carolina and the lead developer of the OS4 OpenLinux project soon to be the Amiga OpenLinux Project
<rjdohnert> We look forward to answering all your questions
<rjdohnert> So lets go ahead and get started
<Ken> eliyahu How did you secure a license to the Amiga trademark? And from whom?
<rjdohnert> We secured the US trademark through registration with the USPTO of Amiga OpenLinux, Amiga Enterprise Linux and Amiga Education System
<Ken> eliyahu So that means you have no license from the IP owners, correct?
<rjdohnert> Yes, we are the IP owners of Amiga OpenLinux, Amiga Enterprise Linux and Amiga Education System
<Ken> broadblues what is the purpose of you chanig your brand name to include "amiga"
<Ken> pjsX1K How many people (full time, part time, outside) in your organization and please give some history of it (dates, accomplishments, etc)?
<Ken> pause to let him catch up
<rjdohnert> Amiga has always meant to me cutting edge, it also means user friendliness and the ability to use the computer to do your tasks quickly and efficiently. Now the Amiga OS in all of its days has done just that and we want to bring that to the Linux world. We feel and our users feel we are the most user friendly, cutting edge distribution of linux on the market today
<rjdohnert> So we share a lot in terms with what Commodore did all those years ago
<Ken> rjdohnert: ask for next question so we know you're ready
<rjdohnert> We have about 5 full time employees, we also have numerous contributors that help out. Our passion has always been to bring the best technology to the masses, we did that with PC/OS , OS4 and we intend to keep doing that with Amiga OpenLinux and Amiga Enterprise Linux
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <eliyahu> OK. So, again, you did not secure a license for the marks from Amiga, Inc.? <Kelli217> I would expand on eliyahu's question ... That is, you either contend that Amiga, Inc.'s trademarks are abandoned or you are purposefully posing the issue in order to force such an opinion?
<rjdohnert> Once again, we didnt need to get an IP license from Amiga Inc. We are our own brand. Since Amiga Inc no longer owns, resells or develops computer systems or general computer operating systems we feel they have indeed abandoned the market. The current buisness of Amiga Inc is in the game market and mobile market and we do not intend to get into that market.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Ken> broadblues do you assert that the amiga linux and amiga (traditional shall we say) tardmarks do not conflct?
<rjdohnert> No they do not and if you do a USPTO look up, Amiga Inc owns the trademark regarding computer hardware, they lost the trademark for computer operating systems and software development tools
<rjdohnert> Those trademarks have been dead for quite a number of years now
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Ken> pjsX1K What specific experience (things done?) do any of your staff have in coding & completing AmigaOS apps?
<rjdohnert> Our CTO, Cristobal was an Amiga developer, Seth and Daniel, who are on our team also are Amiga enthusiasts and worked in the traditional Amiga market. Plus with the 5 of us we have a lot of years in computer development
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Ken> PaulS what makes the amiga linux different from other linux distributions, is it just looks
<rjdohnert> No, its a stable product. If you look at traditional Linux distros you are a constant beta tester. They push new kernels, new drivers and beta and sometimes alpha quality software on their users. We dont do that. We use a stable version of the kernel, our apps are the production ready stable releases and we test our distro alot before we release. So users know they are getting a stable, ready product and we wont push out
<rjdohnert> a new kernel and take the chance of crashing their systems or interrupting their infrastructure.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Ken> liyahu How large is your current community? Do you think having the Amiga brand will help add to those numbers significantly?
<Ken> [15:18:32] eliyahu You posted a long list of to-dos on AWN recently. How was this list determined? Are you already working with existing AOS developers? Do you have a
<Ken> cooperation agreement with A-EON?
<Kelli217> Take your time answering all of those, Roberto.
>rjdohnert< CTCP VERSION
-rjdohnert- VERSION xchat 2.8.8 Ubuntu
<rjdohnert> Our current community with customers and just users who use the free distribution is about 12,000 altogether. We are hoping that the brand shows the Amiga community that we are there to help them, they can continue their hobby with Amiga OS on the powerPC and use our distro for more modern needs, running servers, being able to access modern tools and technology that the Linux community has to offer. The list was determined by
<rjdohnert> the team and we looked at the current situation of the Amiga and asked how can we contribute? These solutions were reasonable, it helps the community. A-EON is assisting us with our port of OS4 PowerLinux, that product will be for the PowerPC processor, Why did we name the product OS4 PowerLinux. Because we felt in the PowerPC market where Hyperion and the Amiga OS were present, that we didnot want to confuse users or cust
<rjdohnert> omers on whether they were getting Amiga OS traditional or what they were getting. So since our position is not to interrupt Hyperions market we decided to keep the name OS4 for the PowerPC distro. We are hoping to extend cooperation with other PowerPC developers as well
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <JimS> Could you explain what your product means to say classic users under UAE, OS4 users on PPC hardware, and AROS users on x86?
<rjdohnert> AROS users, will benefit because they have a wider usage scenario, using Hosted AROS will allow them to keep running their classic apps and give them a modern platform for them to be able to accomplish tasks they may want to do that the classic Amiga cant do, It also helps get AROS out there into a broader audience who may want to join the hobby and elp extend and expand that. Since Amiga OS 4 does not have a server component
<rjdohnert> to it, OS4 PowerLinux works in two ways users can continue to use Linux in conjunction with Amiga OS 4, we do intend to make it as user friendly as our x86 distro, and also when the time comes and they buy a new machine for the Amiga OS, they can recycle their current investment and set up a simple file server at home or use it as their Linux desktop
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Ken> pjsX1K Please tell us when Cristobal was an Amiga OS dev and what applications he worked on.
<rjdohnert> Cristobal is not here with me, he has posted his e-mail address and you can ask him that when he gets a chance
<rjdohnert> next question
<Kelli217> <broadblues> How does you "stable" PC/OS OS4 Amiga Linux compare with a standrad distros stable release?
<rjdohnert> Even when a tradition, stable distro gets released it still has a lot of beta and sometimes Alpha quality software and they claim its stable. With our distro, if you download it and look we do not mix in software from beta channels. So you are getting the latest stable release of ALL your applications.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Ken> ktadd You mentioned assisting with writing device drivers for AmigaOS4. What types of devices do you plan to support?
<rjdohnert> Wifi devices, hopefully through AROS get touch screen working properly, and also common networking devices. If the time comes and AROS, Amiga OS, and even MorphOS has a problem with getting certain devices to work we will offer our expertise and development resources to helping them get it to work properly.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> There is not qurrently a question pending, but at least one person has said that they are composing one
<rjdohnert> ok
<Ken> <broadblues> so you are saying PC/OS OS4 Amiga Linux is a very out of date distro then?
<rjdohnert> No, as a matter of fact its a very up to date distro. If you look at our product when an application achieves stable release status we compile and include it in our repositories and thats why if you download our distro, certain software versions are ahead of what Ubuntu or Linux mint includes
<rjdohnert> Nect Question
<Ken> Derfs you have talked about java and Qt for amiga os, have you spoken to the people working on the amiga os ports of them already?
<rjdohnert> Yes I have, and that conversation is ongoing. We are not here to throw bones to the community, we are fully commited that when say a new release of QT is available to immediately start work on the new release, same with Java and same with our port of Network Manager. We see how sometimes these releases that were produced before get 5 or 6 releases behind. With us working on Java and QT that wont happen.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <alanwall> since the ppc is considered end of life, how are you able to keep a distro up to date/are you able to port x86 apps to ppc ? Thanks !
<rjdohnert> The PowerPC is not EOL. There are several chip companies out there, IBM and Freescale who produce and continue to produce chips and systems with those chips. We need to open up dialogue and refresh the supply.
<rjdohnert> What apps we can port from x86 we will work on. Obviously things like Flash and other closed source software we cant.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> eliyahu had a very similar question to that last one, so we'll skip that.
<Kelli217> Ah, here we go. <Derfs> you spoke of partners selling amiga branded hardware, were you talking about a-eon or another company?
<rjdohnert> A-EON and other companies, both. Some of those companies are under NDA. We have a few announcements coming within the next 48 hours and some of these have been in the community before.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <ktadd> Chromium for AmigaOS4 would be great to have. How much time would you guestimate porting something like that would take? How could the community help
<Kelli217> bump it up on your priority list?
>Kelli217< you claim you're planning to work on AmigaOS drivers and software. why would you do that, i.e. where's the benefit for you, your group or your actual product?
<rjdohnert> Well its not a easy port, we are guestimating something like that would coincide with our release of our first betta of OS4 PowerLinux. Also, testers if we have committed testers we can produce a stable product.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K> Assuming you are not yet in possession of a current AmigaOS machine, have you ordered one or otherwise made arrangements to get one?
<rjdohnert> Yes we have.
<rjdohnert> Next question
<Kelli217> <mikebrantley> I'd like to know if any of the Amiga Open Linux team members will attend AmiWest.
<rjdohnert> I am planning to attend and we will be showing our work on OS4 PowerLinux
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <cgutjahr2> you claim you're planning to work on AmigaOS drivers and software. why would you do that, i.e. where's the benefit for you, your group or your actual product?
<rjdohnert> because we believe in community and we believe in helping alleviate problems. Since we are planning to be involved in the PPC market as well it will help benefit the users as they will be able to use the same hardware for OS4 PowerLinux without having to swap out devices because it doesnt work with the Amiga OS. So this helps users, and its the right thing to do as a citizen of a community.
<rjdohnert> Think of it like this, if you live in a village where you have an electronic water pump and your neighbors dont, are you going to just let them use yours or are you going to help them build one for themselves.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K> how long will it take to port GTK or a linux VM to Amiga OS ?
<rjdohnert> We plan to release that in conjuction with our final release of OS4 PowerLinux so far its feasible, doable
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <vapor> To do AmigaOS drivers will you need to have at least Developer status with Hyperion?
<rjdohnert> That depends on Hyperion. If Ben Hermans wants to open up discussions with us and let us join as a part of a developer network, we are more than happy to do that and we believe cooperation is productive. If he doesnt then we will work with other Amiga OS developers and help them. What Ben does is up to him but we encourage you, the community, to contact him personally and urge him to do the right thing.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> PaulS How much RAM will the distribution need to run properly or does it require recent x86 hardware and will it have features we like so much in AmigaOS like a
<Kelli217> RAM disk that is available right after you booted.
<rjdohnert> 512 mb of RAM is the sweet spot for our distro on x86, we use a the XFCE window manager and its very fast and lightweight and except for the screen fan feature, which I would love to have, its very comparable to what is available in the Amiga OS in terms of ease of use.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <Derfs> are you looking at having an amigaos cross compiler pre-setup in the os4 linux distro, and if so when do you see this happening?
<rjdohnert> We are planning for the cross compiler to be ready for the 14.0 release coming in August. For 13.6, Hosted AROS will have all development tools installed.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <ktadd> What is the best way to contact you if we are intrested in beta testing AmigaOS4 software?
<rjdohnert> Contact the support team, support@pc-opensystems.com
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <PaulS> will there be any software compatibilty with 680x0 or PPC amiga software or will it include an Amiga emulator and a suite of Amiga software
<rjdohnert> UAE will be included but users will have to provide their own kickstart ROM. I intend to contact the right people to see if we can get a license to ROMS to include
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <ktadd> Have you tried contacting Hyperion yet? If so what was the response?
<rjdohnert> Yes, I have tried contacting Hyperion, despit a lot of run around, nothing has been achieved but Im stubborn and will continue e-mailing ben Hermans everyday as I have been doing.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <cgutjahr2> according to your blog, you have changed the OpenLinux logo *again*, now it's a red and white boingball again. this one *is* still used in commerce, are you trying to see if hyperion can muster a defense?
<rjdohnert> Its not a boing ball, its a checkered sphere which is different in the rotation of a boing ball. Ours will spin in the new Plymouth theme and not bounce As for the traditional Boing Ball, I could use it, the trademark for that has expired as well
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <cgutjahr2> btw. the beos guys have a broken water pump aswell. do you need a contact adress ? I could supply one
<Kelli217> That may be just a throwaway question. ;)
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K> While borrowing the history of the Amiga name might help your linux clone get some attention, how does dilluting the Amiga name help the profile and
<Kelli217> reputation of the real Amiga OS ?
<rjdohnert> Actually the BeOS community is no more, owned by ACCESS. Im sure Jean Louis could use one, do YOU need his contact info? Be glad to give it to you.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K> While borrowing the history of the Amiga name might help your linux clone get some attention, how does dilluting the Amiga name help the profile and
<Kelli217> reputation of the real Amiga OS ?
<rjdohnert> We are not diluting it and its a completely different beast. We are in the consumer and enterprise software market. The Amiga OS is in the tech hobbyist and PowerPC market.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <vapor> Is there possibility to get Eclipse and Xmos XC working for ppc (at least Eclipse)?
<rjdohnert> Excellent question, once we assist with the Java stack we actually discussed this morning Eclipse and we will evaluate that.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> There isn't one pending at the moment.
<Kelli217> Anyone? Bueller?
<Kelli217> Here we go, just a moment...
<Kelli217> <Derfs> what do you see as your biggest challenge in this journey?
<rjdohnert> The biggest challenge, Amiga Inc and Hyperion. I dont think from a legal standpoint as some have suggested. Getting them to be productive and assisting giving us straight answers. The code part while challenging is just time sensitive. Another challenge will be community support. Tho I think when we show them we are not here to play heart strings, we are here to be productive members I think that will help.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> Okay folks, it's been about 90 minutes now, so let's wrap this up. Last questions, please.
<Kelli217> This may be a repeat... <ktadd> What is the current timeline on your OS4 PowerLinux release?
<rjdohnert> Beta 1 by November 2013, full final release January 2014. We will be releasing the Beta to the public and testers. So when that lands please be kind. :)
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K which GUI would you use for the AmigaOS network manager? Intuition, Reaction, MUI, Triton, ReneGUI ?
<rjdohnert> MUI
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <ktadd> Could you explain what "Virtualization of Linux" on AmgiaOS4 would look like? Would it be something like AmiCygnix?
<rjdohnert> We are hoping more like X11 on certain other platforms, seamless and integrated well. We will also work on themeing so it doesnt look ugly.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <vapor> Do any of your team have PPC equipment of their own? If yes, what kind?
<rjdohnert> Mac Mini, g4 powerbooks, G5 and we are getting one from a partner in the very near future.
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> <pjsX1K> what sort of coding have you personally done?
<rjdohnert> I have done inhouse coding at jobs I have worked at, I have also contributed code to the OpenBSD group, the Linux community and currently I worked with the Raleigh Police department and helped them write their new checkin system at the new Justice Center and also attended the opining of that center. We are also working with a medical supply company where I am helping them port their own inhouse software to our Enterprise Linux
<rjdohnert> offering
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> I had another question on virtualization but it seems to have been answered
<Kelli217> Okay, another pointed question: <cgutjahr2> "OpenLinux" was a distribution from (IIRC) Caldera, you're old distribution logo was the old NeXT logo, the new distribution logo is a not-boingball and the current name of your distribution is borrowed from us. do you see a pattern here?
<Kelli217> Questions are now closed. We'll clear the queue before we call it done, though.
<rjdohnert> Are you reffering to the name OpenLinux from Caldera, Amlogic or many of the other Linux distributions that used the term OpenLinux? A cube is a cube, is a cube. Dont see how thats relevant to your case there and we are not "borrowing" anything. Completely different brand, completely different approaches
<rjdohnert> OpenLinux is a term used by many in the community because Linux is OPEN
<rjdohnert> Thanks guys, it has been great.
<Kelli217> Well, folks, I had only three question left, but it looks like Roberto is growing fatigued...
<Ken> thanks rjdohnert
<JimS> Thanks, Roberto
<rjdohnert> Well throw them at me if we have only three left
<Kelli217> Okay.
<Kelli217> vapor> Time flies. Do you or any of your team, like tinkering with hardware? Thanks Roberto.
<rjdohnert> Yes, we all love tinkering with hardware
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> Clarification: <broadblues> my question was a follow up as he said virtualisation would be via X server but we have X server (AmiCygnix)
<Kelli217> so perhaps how would it improve on AmiCygnix?
<rjdohnert> It will look very much more integrated and work like a regular application should. We are striving for once you click on a Linux binary, it will launch seamlessly
<rjdohnert> Next Question
<Kelli217> And the last one...
<Kelli217> <PaulS> Why should people upgrading from Amiga hardware migrate to your product over other products from apple or microsoft. If this product was geared towards existing Amiga users or mainly to new users not familiar with Amigas.
<rjdohnert> Both, it will allow them to use UAE or AROS to run the applications they know and love and we target an audience very much outside the "Amiga scene" so users who want to migrate away from Amiga and just have that one app they love can still use it.
<rjdohnert> As well as reap the benefits of Linux
<rjdohnert> Thanks guys
<Kelli217> Thank you, Roberto.

OS4 Linux: Provider installs AROS optionally (Update)
According to PC OpenSystems LLC (the company behind OS4 Linux - amiga-news.de reported) under the title link, from monday on all purchasers of hardware can get AROS installed without extra charge - at first as guest operating system under VirtualBox and later, if the computer will be completely supported by AROS, as second boot option as well.

But the prices of the computers are not low which can be demonstrated with this example of an HP-Pavilion-23-system called "Indigo Desktop" by the OS4Store: with AMD-A4-Prozessor, 4 GB RAM and 500-GB harddrive, it costs 1100 US-Dollar. The producer itself sells an upgraded model for 700 Dollar.

Update: (18:34, 30.06.13, snx)
Meanwhile a list of additional plans and suggestions with regard to the Amiga has been published by Roberto Dohnert. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Linux-distributor is going to use label Amiga (update)
Under os4online.com, for several years a commercial Xubuntu-based Linux distribution called "OS4 OpenLinux" has been offered. English-language users noticed that the distribution has the same name as the colloquial name for AmigaOS 4 (1, 2) - finally Roberto J. Dohnert who is maintainer of the OS4 OpenLinux-distributor "PC OpenSystems LLC" has delivered a detailed statement.

Dohnert explained that in the past he was engaged with the Amiga and that he had contact to Barry Altman from Commodore USA. Yesterday Dohnert claimed in an article having got in touch with Amiga Inc. due to getting a licence for the name - but without getting an answer. After that Dohnert announced that he does think about to use the copyrighted trademark on his website and then see who will contact him.

This plan now has been put into pratice: In a statement on the website of his Linux-distribution, PC OpenSystems has announced to rename both software products in "Amiga OpenLinux" and "Amiga Enterprise Linux". Additionally (x86-/x64-based) servers, desktop computers and laptops are supposed to be offered with Amiga-logo.

Dohnert carries on participating in the discussion on aw.net and emphasized again that this all was done to get in touch with the owners of the trademark.

Meanwhile the announcement was removed from os4online.com - about 30 minutes after Ben Hermans was logged in on Amigaworld.net for a short time. A screenshot of the anouncement we have saved on our server.

Update: (23.06.13, 18:50, cg)

Meanwhile Dohnert explained that Amiga Inc. did contact him and refused a licence for Linux. But he got some figures for a licence yet: 600 US-Dollar as well as a "annual fee of 5 percent".

After that the logo of OS4 OpenLinux was changed to a design which is highly inspired by the BoingBall. Meanwhile and despite of Dohnert's comments, the original announcement is online again: The intention to sell the software as "Amiga OpenLinux". (cg) (Translation: dr)
