MorphOS: First public release of new web browser Wayfarer
Press release: Wayfarer, a new web browser based on a modern mid-2020 branch of WebKit is now available for download from wayfarer.icu. This new app makes it possible to browse most of the web that have become off-limits for Odyssey with its ageing engine. Google apps like Docs, Drive and Maps with Street view are supported just as the Whatsapp or Telegram web interfaces.
Wayfarer will work on any machine running the brand new MorphOS 3.14 with at least 1GB of RAM. A 1.5GHz or faster CPU is recommended.
This port has been made possible by the concerted effort of the MorphOS developers, the MorphOS beta testers, translators and all of the users who donated to the project. (snx)

Operating system: MorphOS 3.14
Press release: The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the immediate availability of MorphOS 3.14. While mostly a maintenance and stability release, this update also brings multiple technological improvements in the kernel. Out of these, the most notable are TLS support in exec.library, updates to the Netstack and ixemul.library.
We would also like to thank all of our translators and beta testers for stepping up their efforts in the weeks leading up to this release. This update ships with over 230 new and more than a 100 improved translation files.
We strongly urge new users to carefully read our installation and troubleshooting guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 3.14 is available for download in our files section. (snx)

WHDLoad: New installers until 03.10.2020
Using WHDLoad, games, scene demos and intros by cracking groups, which were originally designed to run only from floppy disks, can be installed on harddisk. The following installers have been added until 26.09.2020:

Commercial text adventure: Playable demo for 'Tristam Island'
Tristam Island is a commercial text adventure which was developed for Infocom's virtual environment Z-Machine and therefore can be played on many different platforms. A demo version for the Amiga is available on Aminet. It offers about 90 minutes of fun - according to the author this a quarter of the full game.
From November 20 on, 'Tristam Islan' can be purchased for 4 USD on itch.io. The download archive then will include disk images for several retro platforms like the Amiga or different 8-Bit computers, DOS or the Gameboy.

Puzzle games: AstroBlox Revisited, Hansel and Gretel
At the Polish retro event Decrunch 2020 two new puzzle games for the Amiga have been released. 'AstroBlox Revisited' (video, download site) is a Sokoban version respectively a deluxe version of an older Aminet release. Hansel and Gretel (video, download site) is a mixture of platform and "moving blocks" game and was developed with AMOS.

Documentation: Viva Amiga - Extended Remix available on Vimeo
Zach Weddington's crowd-funded documentation Viva Amiga published in 2017 now is available as "extended remix" on Vimeo. The play time was increased from 62 to 140 minutes. According to a fan other developers like Bil Herd and Andy Finkel and ingenieurs like Bryce Nesbitt, Jeff Porter or Dave Haynie were interviewed.

Amiga emulator for Mac OS: vAmiga 0.9.12
Dirk Hoffmann's "vAmiga" is a new Amiga emulator for MacOS computers emulating an A500, A1000 or A2000. Changes since our last news item:
- Added DOS disk support (3.5“ 720KB, Amiga Transformer)
- Fixed a bug in the implementation of the RESET instruction (Amiga Transformer)
- Fixed a bug that caused Paula to omit DSKBLK IRQs when no drive was selected (A-Max)
- The ERSY bit in BPLCON0 now freezes the position counters (The Jetsons)
- The BZERO bit in DMACON had wrong polarity when the Line Blitter was in use
- Fixed the serial loopback cable (which was broken since v0.60)
- The memory inspector has been updated. It can now display the bank map as it is seen by Agnus
- Recalibrated the drive motor to rotate the disk at exactly 300rpm

Single-Screen platform game: Magica
"Magica" (video) is a single-screen platform game inspired by classics like 'Snow Bros' or 'Bubble Bobble' which was originally released by Juan J. Martinez for the Amstrad-CPC computers. The Amiga port is provided by Andy Noble.
Magica runs on any Amiga 500, the game can also be started from the harddrive after copying the executable file to it.

Amigakit: Status update on Tabor/A1222
In a post on amiga.org, Matthew Leaman (Amigakit) has given a short status update on the A1222 motherboards which could be preordered in the "Early Adopter" program:
"A-EON is currently stalled on the prototype stage of the new v1.3 design of the A1222 Plus. This hopefully will be resolved soon as there is some additional help enlisted to get this over the line. Just working through the mundane NDA/legal stuff.
Regarding the AAA Bundle: for some time you can download the software, in the next week you will also be able to download the Viva Amiga movie from the Amisphere server. The digital download of this movie is part of the AAA Bundle."

Hollywood plugin: RebelSDL 1.1
Press release: Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are proud to present RebelSDL 1.1. RebelSDL is a plugin for Hollywood that allows you to use SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) from Hollywood. This makes it possible to write scripts that utilize the host system's graphics hardware to create high-performance, butter-smooth 2D animation that is produced completely in hardware by the GPU of your graphics board.
RebelSDL 1.1 is a major update which contains several important improvements over the last release. First and foremost, RebelSDL is now available for AmigaOS 4 for the very first time. This allows you to write Hollywood scripts which take advantage of the latest Warp3D Nova and OpenGL ES technologies leading to dramatic performance boosts when drawing and scaling graphics. For MorphOS, RebelSDL is now also available in a special PowerSDL version. Since SDL2 on MorphOS doesn't currently support hardware acceleration, PowerSDL is a much better choice to make use of the graphics hardware for a better drawing performance. Finally, RebelSDL for Linux ARM comes in three different flavours now: Raspberry Pi (taking advantage of the Pi's custom hardware), OpenGL and OpenGL ES. This will allow you to get the most out of the ARM Linux of your choice. On top of that, there are also some other general new features for all platforms.
RebelSDL 1.1 is now available for free download for a multitude of platforms from the official Hollywood portal. The distribution archive also contains 20 example scripts and extensive documentation in various formats (PDF, HTML, CHM, AmigaGuide).

Open Hardware: Amiga-1200 expansion modules updated
A month ago Matthias Münch's expansion modul versions for the Amiga 1200 was updated.
Depending on the modul, the expansions offers a VGA or HDMI port for the Indivision AGA Mk1, Mk2cr and MK3 which can be can be used simultaneously with an USB and/or soundcard (e.g. Subway or RapidRoad respectively Delfina or Prisma).

Jason Smith's "Amiga Bootblock Reader" is a "Windows program which allows reading and writing Amiga bootblocks from Amiga Disk Files."
Changes in Amiga Bootblock Reader 4:
- Now recognises 2166 different bootblocks
- Brainfile / Category list now in XML Format to allow easy editing / import
- Supports ADFs, DMS, ADZ (Gzipped ADF) and Zipped ADF files (DMS scanning requires XDMS)

Music player: MiniSid 0.02 (all Amiga systems)
'MiniSid' is a player for C64 music files created with Hollywood which can also play other formats like MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, AAC, WAV, AIFF, MOD, XM and S3M. Versions are available for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS as well as for Windows. The OS3 version also works under AROS 68k, a version for AROS x86 has been announced.

On Arananet the "Ultimate CDTV video board" is available which replaces the original CDTV video board of a CDTV "adding a great output quality" and completely removing "the verticals bars made on some monitors". The card offers a 15-khz-VGA-port and the typical 23-pole video port. Additionally it provides a SD card reader which can only be used with a Vampire 500.
Furthermore the extension provides an experimental RS-232-WLAN adapter based on a ESP8266 microcontroller which has to be connected to the serial port of the CDTV. This adapter emulates a modem enabling terminal or mailbox software establishing a WLAN connection.

Audio recording: Speech of Jay Miner
Bill Winters from the Youtube channel "Guru Meditation" has found an old audio recording in the garage of his father which includes a speech of Jay Miner at the "AmiExpo East Coast 1990" in Washington D.C. (USA). The "father of the Amiga" talked in detail among others about the history of the computers, his relation to Commodore and his ideas of the further development of the platform. At the end there was also a round of questions in which Miner seemed accidently to confirm the development of a successor of the A3000.

Prototype of an unreleased jump'n run: Green Thang
"Green Thang" (video) is a jump'n run game which has been started being developed for the Amiga in 1994. Due to a crashing market, later only a version for the Atari Jaguar was developed further but which only some time later was also dropped. The website "Games that Weren't" succeeded in finding a playable prototype of the Amiga version.

Game developer Chris Földing (Jonathan, Stadt der Löwen) died
Chris G. Földing (audio interview from 2019 (German)) was graphic artist and media designer who in cooperation with Markus Frisch in the 90s released several graphic adventures for Amiga and PC: Holiday Maker, Die Stadt der Löwen and Jonathan.
Markus 'Neo Hippie' Steffan who in the past years travelled to Memmingen to visiting the scenes of the game and storing the experiences in his travel diaries maintained regular contact with Földing. He told us that the game developer died last Wednesday at the age of 72.

Playable Demo: Dungeon Crawler "The Shadows of Sergoth"
"The Shadows of Sergoth" is a Dungeon Crawler similar to Dungeon Master which was released in 2018 for the Amstrad CPC 6128. Some months ago an Amiga port has been announced and now a first playable demo version released (video). The game requires 1,5 MB Chip-RAM and at least a 68020 processor is recommended.
If you are going to play Shadows of Sergoth on an Amiga with 68000 or 68020 processor, you can turn off animations in the option menu. For the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 a commercial release of the game is planned in digital as well as boxed version.

Self-made project: Using standard power supply for A500/A1200
Tobias "MastaTabs" Seiler's A500 Single Power and A1200 Single Power are adapter boards which replace the powersupply port of an Amiga. By the help of the board, the computers can be supplied with electricity using a standard 12-Volt power supply.
As a little bonus the board also provides a seperate power switch. The A500 version has been successfully tested by the developer.

Self-made project: A500/A2000 2MB Chip-RAM adapter
Matt Harlum's "A500/2000 2MB Chip RAM Mod" is an adapter board which can use the last generation of the "Agnus"-chip (MOS 8375) in an A500 or A2000. This version of the Amiga-Adress-Generator supports up to 2 Megabyte Chip-RAM. A corresponding RAM is already included on the board.

TCP-Stack: Roadshow 1.14
Press release: Slightly delayed by only two years, the free Roadshow TCP/IP stack 1.14 update is now available to all customers. This update fixes a number of long standing bugs, improves performance and accuracy in the TCP/IP stack itself, as well as adding new features to the shell commands which ship with it.
New features include support for the remote shell command (rsh) and Roadshow's new built-in remote shell server: you can now build networks of Amigas and small computer systems, allowing Amiga programs to be started over the network, allow the Amiga to start programs on other computers and exchange data through this channel.
The update process itself has been reworked, enabling you to update Roadshow versions 1.9-1.13 in one single step. Which software is updated, and if/why some software cannot be updated, is also stated clearly.
Our profound thanks go to everybody who contributed bug reports and enhancement requests during the past two years, and especially the beta testers who made shipping the 1.14 update possible in the first place!

WHDLoad: Graphical user-interface iGame 2.0 beta 6
iGame is a MUI-based frontend for starting WHDLoad games. Edgar Schwan has ported the general vector illustrating application Sodipodi, which is the predecessor of the well-known editor "Inkscape", in version 0.34r2 for his X11 environment AmiCygnix (screenshot). Files of the SVG format can be created and edited.
New in this release:

Thanks to Hollywood, all multimedia applications created using Hollywood Designer can be exported as stand-alone executables for the following systems: AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4, WarpOS, MorphOS, AROS, Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Hollywood Designer is no longer limited to "just" being an authoring software, it can now also be used as a flexible graphics editor because it supports many features of modern graphics editors like multiple layers with over 30 filter effects, vector graphics, video import and export, and text processing. Hyperion withdraws opposition against registration of US trademark 'Amiga'
In January 2017, Cloanto filed for registration of the 'Amiga' trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) - right after the previous owner Amiga, Inc. let its own registration expire. Hyperion opposed that registration and filed for several other Amiga-related trademarks ("AmigaOS", "AmigaOne", Boingball) itself, encountering a few administrative issues initially.
The trademark disputes grinded to a halt shortly after that, mostly caused by the lawsuits that had been filed by Hyperion on one side and Cloanto as well as the 'Amiga parties' on the other side. But in the last few days, new filings have been submitted: Hyperion's lawyer is informing the USPTO that his client is withdrawing its opposition against Cloanto's registration of the 'Amiga' mark. Hyperion's attempt to register the BoingBall logo has been abandoned this week as well.
Note from staff: Since the USPTO is already pointing out a "likelihood of confusion" of the other marks Hyperion applied for (AmigaOne, AmigaOS) with Cloanto's 'Amiga' mark, we assume that these attempted registrations will be denied once Cloanto's mark is registered. We currently have no information about the reasons behind Hyperion's change of strategy. (cg)

Stephen Jones announced smaller version of his "Checkmate 1500 Plus" case
In September 2018, Stephen Jones successfully financed his case Checkmate 1500 Plus which was inspired by the A3000. This version of the Checkmate, which Jones said he is going to sell the last 300 pieces in the near future, was remarkably bigger than the original A3000 case since it could also host an A500 or A1200.
In a Youtube interview, Jones has announced a smaller version of the case which will only host motherboards of the Mini-ITX but (almost) meets the original size of the Amiga 3000. Currently only renderings of the new case are available which again is supposed to be financed via Kickstarter.

AmigaOS 4: E-Mail program Sylpheed 3.0.3 for AmiCygnix released
Under the title link for AmiCygnix the e-mail program Sylpheed is available in version 3.0.3.
Sylpheed is an e-mail program based on the GTK+-GUI-Toolkit. The design and the user-interface is similar to many well-known programs from the Windows world, e.g. Outlook Express (screenshot).
Edgar Schwan has chosen this program because of its very good support of the IMAP4 protocol.
New in this release:
- New version 3.0.3 with many new features compared to the previous version 2.6.0.
- The program was linked with GTK+ 2.24.32. This means that drag 'n drop, among other things, now also works.
- A spell check with Aspell is now integrated. A German and an English language catalog are included. The catalogs available for AbiWord can also be used.
- Mail addresses and personal data can now be determined via LDAP. For this purpose, Sylpheed was linked with openldap 2.4.49.
- Spam filter function using "bogofilter". The program "bogofilter 1.2.5" is included in the package and is installed automatically.
- Now uses an icon set in the style of AmigaOS 4.1.
- New start scripts for the start on the desktop and the standalone start.

Diagnosis tool: DiagROM 1.2.1
DiagROM is a diagnosis software which has to be burned into an EPROM and then replaces the regular Kickstart-ROM of an Amiga. The tool does not require any driver, IRQs or something like that and therefore should also run on only partly working computers performing hardware tests and identifying problems.
Additional to the "stable" version, the official website also provides "Daily Builds" which are daily updated but still can include bugs. DiagROM is free software, the source code is available on Github.
DiagROM 1.2.1 is the latest stable version of the tool which provides the following changes:
- 2020-07-16: WOW This is a long time since I updated this. And lets be honest. I have forgot what i have changed.
BUT one thing I just been thinking. I have bumped the versionnumber in the
wrong "end".. so as I am working on a new init-routine. I consider this is the "stable" one.
So I bump the serialnumber to 1.2.1. I have been too busy with hardware so I
must confess I haven't coded so much on DiagROM. I have made some minor bugfixes etc.
I must still warn that if a routine is experimental you cannot really trust the tests :)
Anyway in hope for the best in the future. the "daily" will for a while be a little "jumpy" while I
get the new init working. This should be useful meanwhile :)
- 2019-08-13: Long time since last time. New Stable.
Now Diskdrivetest should work on most machines.
Memchecks should now detect nonworking ram better.
Experimental CIA test added that should work on NTSC machines aswell. MIGHT give false
results on TOD-B tests. It will still say that IRQ is needed, this is not true :)
Added RGB Test.
and usual "bugfixes" pressing left mousebutton when chipmemdetect starts skips serial
output and makes startup faster. holding down left mousebutton while doing memscan at
start skips memtests. (good if it hangs during scan. known not found bug yet!)
- 2019-05-04: Updated to tested values if new CIA test that should be more correct.
Also in memoryedit mode (memtest) added pageup/down functions with Q and Z keys.
(or Amigastandard shift+cursor keys) also added official support to execute code
from current locaton using the X key. (this is very much not really useful for most
people)
- 2019-05-03: New experimental CIA test should be working. This I would add much more early but due to
some idiots having the totally wrong way of asking for a function I just simply ignored
the request of having a CIA test that works in NTSC mode aswell. Remember HOW you ask
for functions/features. Do not be a dick. Anyway. it now hopefully works. I have no
real NTSC machine to test on, so please test and report (bugreports@diagrom.com).
remember that result is dependent on current screenmode so OK can be on the PAL side
even on a NTSC machine.
- 2019-05-01: Added a new experimental CIA test. it says however IRQ is needed but it is a lie.
Will be changed when the old test is removed.
it will now show number of ticks intead. and if it is ok or not in both PAL and NTSC
modes. (still remember. pressing space in mainmenu swaps between PAL/NTSC mode on most
Amigas).
- 2019-01-26: Changed some in serial output so tests that are ok are shown in green.
and tests failing are shown in red.
also changed the screen if no mem was found at all that it now shows in rasterbars
bit 31->0 Light green is a working bit. dark green is a bad bit in memory.
Slowly going from Address $400 and up. (4 longwords up every flash).
where I now added a section of 4 parts:
This is a very fast (and not very reliable) memorytest of chipmem.
telling if it seems to have working ram in different blocks of 512k.
so 4 lines= 2MB of ram.
those tests are in realtime so poking around on databits will show you result
in realtime.. This is using Raster-magic coding C64 style. So flicker is normal.
- 2019-01-13: Whopsi. During my tests I disabled parts of the CIA test. now working again.
also changed somewhat at the init output doing chipram detection.
Now it shows binary output aswell. This made detecting MUCH slower.
But I found out that if I write the address being tested only once.
things got much faster. Now it takes longer when there are errors.
I have added (to TEST! might be removed anyday) a function that if you press
left mousebutton, serialoutput is temporary disabled making it go much faster.
- 2019-01-02: Changed memtest pattern so it is different for high/low word
- 2019-01-01: HAPPY NEW YEAR! changed serial output at startup when there
is biterrors. now also showing binary output.
Writes address only once, this dramatically also as a bonus
improves detectionspeed when memory is good. Slight
different coloroutput now. (might be changed)
- 2018-11-17: Added a RGB Test showing a R G and B bar. for the moment only in OCS, AGA will come.

Turrican: Limited new edition as "Anthologies" and "Collector's Editions"
The publisher "Strictly Limited Games" distributes old or so far only digitally available games as boxed editions including some "goodies" - in strictly limited quantities. In co-operation with Factor 5 now the Turrican games - at least those ones of which Factor 5 holds the rights - will be republished.
The games are divided into two "anthologies" which can be seperately purchased. Additionally, a "Collector's Edition" as well as an "Ultra Collector's Edition" are available - all for Nintendo Switch or Playstation 4.
At least the Mega-Drive and SNES versions of the games are also available as real cartridges for the original devices. Currently it is not clear if this will also apply to the Amiga games: At the moment the official webshop is often updated, new Turrican products are added.

Preview videos: 'RESHOOT PROXIMA 3' and 'Boss Machine'
The former "Amiga Joker" editor Richard Löwenstein is working on his third Shoot'em Up. After RESHOOT and RESHOOT R currently he creates the game "RESHOOT PROXIMA 3". On his Patreon site Löwenstein publishes updates and background information on the game, for example an official trailer which should have been released on the Gamescom.
For the Shoot'em Up "Boss Machine" there is a video showing one of the final bosses - currently without own intelligence. Kevin Saunders, the developer of the game, also has a Patreon site.
