Individual Computers: New power supply units can be preordered
From now on it is possible to preorder new power supply units from Individual Computers for the keyboard Amigas A500, A600 and A1200. The delivery is planned for 10th August. The offered solution consists of a common laptop power supply unit as well as a second unit put between the power supply unit and the computer which is in a C64 module case featuring additional Amiga specific elektronics and the power switch.
According to the developer the "CA-PSU", available for 75 Euro, "is the first power supply on the market that fully complies with the original Commodore specifications, introducing cable drop compensation for best regulation that even settles the voltage drop in the input filter of the target computers. This means that the voltage on the main 5V rail will never deviate more then 0.9%, measured inside the computer - no matter if the computer is in vanilla configuration or heavily expanded. Conventional power supplies will either supply too-high voltage to a vanilla machine, or too-low voltage to an expanded machine, causing malfunction or even defects."

Emulator: WinUAE 4.4.0
Version 4.4.0 of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE has been released.
New features/improvements:
- 68000 address and bus error (bus errors are not used in Amiga) stack frames are now 100% accurate, including all undefined behavior like partially updated flags or registers. Last missing part that wasn’t fully accurate previously.
- 68010 emulation is now cycle-accurate. Including loop mode.
- 68030 MMU emulation simplified and optimized.
- CPU tester detected rare CPU/FPU bugs fixed.
- Multiple CPU tester detected undocumented CPU and FPU (all models) behavior emulated, mainly edge cases that almost never happen normally. More information in detailed changelogs.
- Debugger assembler and disassembler updates and fixes.
- 1x-8x CPU multipliers are now also supported in prefetch (more compatible) CPU mode.
- Implemented Paula serial port emulation receive break condition detection support.
- “diskchange rdh0:” can be now used to eject drag&drop mounted directory/file/archive harddrive.
- On screen led floppy leds have brighter border if inserted disk is write protected.
- If 2 light pens/guns enabled and if gun 2 moves, enable only gun 2 crosshair. Previously gun 1 move enabled both crosshairs.
- “Default” filter mode now enables aspect ratio correction and scales to window/screen size only when display size is too large or too small.
- Ignore ncap/winpcap dll version because recent ncap versions have smaller version number than old winpcap versions.
- GUI Reset button now copies current full GUI config to active config, including options that normally can’t be changed on the fly.
- FPU default is back to 64-bit. Very few programs require 80-bit accuracy, it wasn’t worth the speed loss.
- Black borders are not anymore enabled in autoscale center mode.
- Few custom chipset and CIA emulation updates.
- Added easy to use and transparent printf()-like debug logging method for developers.
Fixed bugs:
- If disk read DMA was started without any selected drive(s), it was always emulated in turbo mode.
- Screen capture to clipboard created blank image if 256 color or less RTG mode and capture before filtering was set.
- When ejecting directory filesystem that points to plain file or archive, not all host file handles were closed properly.
- Switching GUI panels left stale entry in internal array, possibly causing random crash after switching panels many times.
- Config file (*.uae) icon is now correct again.
4.3.0 bugs fixed:
- Some RTG to RTG mode resolution switches didn’t resize windowed mode correctly.
- CD32 pad red button didn’t always work as a normal fire button, depending on how it was configured.
- CD32 ROM delay loop patch was skipped. Broke CD32 CD if CPU speed was too fast.
New emulated hardware:
- Hardital Dotto (clone of ICD AdIDE)

Individual Computers: Indivision AGA Mk3 can be pre-ordered
From now on you can pre-order the third generation of the scandoubler/flickerfixer "Indivision AGA" from Individual Computers. The currently offered version is meant for A1200 and A4000T - this one requires a minor modifications to the A4000T mainboard by the user - computers.
This third generation now "supports synchronisation of the output signal with the computer's V-Sync signal" which "allows sliky-smooth animations and perfect scrolling without tearing". This requires a monitor supporting a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
The developers also wrote: "Another improvement over the predecessor models is automatic monitor recognition: The configuration tool can detect what size of monitor is connected and make suggestions for ideal output frequencies that are within the specifications of the monitor. This reduces the "first setup" to a matter of minutes, maybe even seconds if you're using one of the presets for popular display panel sizes that we provide.
Indivision AGA Mk3 is plugged over the Lisa chip. For the first time, a second connection is required to take advantage of all features of the product: An additional adapter is clipped on top of a CIA chip to route keyboard signals to the flicker fixer. This gives way for a huge practical improvement over previous versions of the flicker fixer: You can now make small adjustments to the output picture format, including positioning and re-sizing of the output picture without the need to load the configuration tool. While Indivision predecessors required the user to exit a game, load the config tool, make adjustments and then re-boot into the game, you can now open a simple menu using a hot-key combination, make adjustments with the keyboard or mouse and then exit this live configuration menu - all this without leaving the game or demo that's currently running."
The new Indivision AGA is suppoed to be delivered from 10th August.

Company history: Commodore's involvement in a financial scandal in 1965
Many users know that Jack Tramiel's company Commodore was experiencing financial difficulties back in the 60s and could only continue existing by the help of Irving Gould. That those financial difficulties are related to a financial scandal some users might know as well. But you cannot find detailed information in the Internet or in books.
The brief summary of this story published by Brian Bagnall in his first part of Commodore's history encouraged the American "Zube" to look for more details. For a limited time he could read the 3000 page final report of the investigative commission which examined the crash of the Canadian financial
institution Atlantic Acceptance Corporation - this finance company which in the middle of the sixties did hold many shares of the "Commodore Business Machines".
In the text which "Zube" already published in 2007 he painted a very gloomy picture of the persons involved. But he explicitly states that he did not had sufficient time for reading the whole documents and that he is not an expert.

Game Construction Kit: Scorpion Engine
The "Scorpion Engine" developed by Erik 'earok' Hogan allows you to develop game running on an A500 with a screen rate of 50 Hz. The editor runs under Windows. Graphics are imported as PNG files, levels created by using the editor Tiled. For sounds, music and animations the Amiga formats are used (mod, 8svx, anim5).
For some days an update is available which additional to the full example project Amigo the Fox includes diverse changes and improvements:
- Mid-air platformer control is drastically improved, though there's still some refinements to be done
- Ability to set collision handling per direction. It's now possible to define that an enemy will bounce off walls but won't bounce when hitting the floor from height, for example
- Ability to configure a platformer actor so it won't walk off it's platform (this is done from the 'collision down' parameter)
- Previously, a "player projectile" type couldn't collide with the player itself. This has been fixed, allowing for objects that collide with both the player and other objects
- Removal of various unused parameters for simplicity
- Improved efficiency of animated tile system
- AGA enhancement: Fades are super smooth 24 bit. On OCS machines, fades remain at 12 bit
- AGA enhancement: Color palette is 24 bit. On OCS machines, palette remains at 12 bit
- Map compilation has been made much more powerful. You can include any number of background and foreground layers and the compiler will merge them all down to a tight and efficient tileset, containing no visually redundant tiles
- A1000 officially supported
- ECS/AGA enhancement: Border blank. Border is always black, even when index 0 of palette isn't
- Various improvements for Backbone importer
- Default fonts are included with every new project (cheers to Koyot for this)
- Commercial derived sample games have been depreciated, and will be replaced and removed in future updates. They were never meant to be finished, they were simply meant to show that commercial quality, console like games are entirely possible in the engine. They'll be replaced with similar games featuring free assets
- Various other minor tweaks to support 'Amigo the Fox' and future Scorpion games

APC&TCP also takes over digital distribution of "Amiga Joker" magazine
Press release: APC&TCP is pleased to announce that we are now taking over the digital distribution of the game magazine "Amiga Joker". The PDF file (and of course also the print edition) of issue 1/17 of the "Amiga Joker" is now available in the online shop at the title link.
About Amiga Joker:
Amiga Joker was Germany's first and largest trade magazine for Amiga games and delighted its readers from issue 11/1989 to issue 10-11/1996 with a refreshing writing style, distinctive test reports and unbeatable authors. So it happened that even today many are still waiting for the next edition, which was announced for November 29, 1996 but unfortunately never was published.
After a short break, Dr. Freak, Brork, Mixer, the Joker and the team are back: At the community event Amiga32 in Neuss, on October 28, 2017 a completely new and limited edition of the Amiga Joker was presented - freshly prepared by the original Amiga Joker team, in the original Amiga Joker layout.
From enthusiasts for fans!
With 44 pages
Topics of the issue include:
- New games 2018: This is how RESHOOT R is created
- Old versus new: Settlers, Lotus, Stardust - Amiga classics vs. current hits
- Amiga Joker totally naked: secrets of the editorial team and stories that noone knows yet
- Factor 5 Extra: The Turrican makers unpack - successes, pirated copies, comeback plans

Mario clone: Amigo the Fox (alpha version)
Erik Hogan's platformer "Amigo The Fox" (video) originally was a port of the old clone of "Mario Brothers" for DOS. Meanwhile the game which was created with the construction kit Scorpion Engine has been reworked avoiding copyright disputes. The game currently is in alpha state but already offers six playable levels. An Amiga 1200 is recommended but also on an A500 the game should smoothly run.
Update: (25.06.2020, 19:15, cg)
We initially described "Amiga The Fox" as a Redpill product, in fact it was created using the Scorpion Engine.

Programming language: FreePascal 3.2.0 for all Amiga systems
Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow has released version 3.2 of the programming language FreePascal for the Amiga. By releasing this version the Amiga integration has been completed. Versions are available for AmigaOS 3/4, AROS i386/ARM and MorphOS.
Sackrow explained that he "did a lot of work on finding out what would be a good Amiga style package and which docs/texts should be added". He also wanted this archive to be released on the official website of the project - which was rejected for previsous versions. But he did not get any feedback for this releases and version 3.2 again was not added to the official download site.
This story also did lead to a lack of motivation: "It seems rather futile to continue to work on it, when nobody even really use it, which is still true, unfortunately, I have to admit."

- New: Overscan up to 672x520 24 bit per pixel, 800x600 in 16 bit per pixel. The other modes 640x480 and 720x576 stayed the same. All resolutions in 50Hz/60Hz

Registered users of a1k.org can download the updated firmware in the corresponding discussion. There you also only can purchase the hardware. Both previsous batches are sold out and currently it is not clear if there will be a third one.
An alternative product is the converter HDMI-520 (pictures, video) which is introduced in the Turkish forum commodore.gen.tr.

Source codes of MUIMapparium and Leu released, development abandoned
Marcus "ALB42" Sackrow has released the source code of some of his Amiga applications on Github, among others his spreadsheet Leu as well as the OpenStreetMap viewer MUIMapparium. In an entry in his blog Sackrow explained that he discontiniued developing the software:
"As you might know I did not want to have my programs on the highly illegal distribution Coffin OS. You cannot detect Coffin, but it’s a distribution especially made for Vampire, therefore if I block Vampire they will not include my software anymore. Besides the Vampire users could push the Vampire team to condemn this distribution and stop to promote it. All of that did not happen, they still added my stuff, even with the Vampire block and the people became mad about me, not about the Vampire team (or the coffin team). I’m not good at being the bad guy."
Upon request of amiga-news.de Sackrow confirmed that currently he is not motivated to do anything for the Amiga. But the disputes concerning Coffin is only one of the several reasons for his decision. For the moment the server required for MUIMapparium he is going to continue maintaining.

The platform game Bad Ninjas was created with Redpill and is available also as "boxed edition" from the authors. All other games are Backbone productions: Blain Home and Super Capacitor also are platform games while Lord Vader is a beat'em up.

Graphics card: Firmware and driver update for ZZ9000
For his graphics card ZZ9000 (amiga-news.de reported) Lukas F. Hartmann has released updates of the firmware and the driver. Version 1.6.2 among others offers improved stability and performance.
Changes:
- Higher stability, esp. with 68060/CyberStorm. Better output signal. 1.5.1 for Zorro 3 had faulty FPGA timing. We finally figured out this was a Xilinx Vivado bug
- Improved raw read/write speed
- Improved speed on some P96 drawing functions, especially RectFill() Pattern
- Fixes to network driver incl. the possibility to switch to INT2 instead of INT6 in the case you have hardware conflicts. To do this, set the interrupt jumper on ZZ9000 to INT2 and create an empty file ENVARC:ZZ9K_INT2
- Unified scandoubler (“videocap”) code for Denise and Videoslot sampling with slightly better centering

Crowdfunding: A book from David Pleasance and Trevor Dickinson
After Commodore - The Inside Story, the former "managing director" of Commodore UK, David Pleasance, is working on a second book, this time in co-operation with Trevor Dickinson from A-EON. The book with the subtitle "From Vultures to Vampires" will tell the Amiga history "starting from the day when Escom were the highest bidder at Commodore's liquidator’s auction in New York (I was there), how their attempts to relaunch the Amiga spectacularly failed, then the troublesome years when our beloved computer bounced around from company to company, Viscorp, Quickpack, Gateway 2000, etc. and beyond."
For 15 Euro supporters will get an e-book (epub, mobi and PDF), for 30 Euro a printed book. Both variants are supposed to be available in February 2021.

Web browser: IBrowse 2.5.3
Press release: IBrowse 2.5.3 has been released and can now be downloaded to update your existing IBrowse 2.5 installation (OS4 users can also upgrade using AmiUpdate). This is a free update for registered owners of IBrowse 2.5. IBrowse 2.4 and 1.x users can upgrade to IBrowse 2.5.3 via our store at discounted rates. We hope you are all well in these strange times - stay safe!
The main target for this new version was to improve performance on HTTPS connections, given that SSL is relatively slow on 68k processors. Despite the performance enhancements that came in AmiSSL 4.4 (4.6 is available now, by the way), there is not much more that can be done in AmiSSL unless someone is able to write 68k assembly optimised versions of some of the modules (as is the case for PowerPC). Therefore, some other options have been exploited to enhance performance, which have been in beta testing over the past 3 months, due to the major changes required to the HTTP engine...
SSL Session Caching:
IBrowse 2.5.3 now implements a SSL session cache for all HTTPS connections, supporting all the differing session/ticket methods use from TLSv1.0 to TLSv1.3. This allows the slow initial handshaking to be bypassed on subsequent connections to the same host, thus increasing performance noticably on OS3, and even on OS4 too. Most websites support this feature universally.
Persistent Connections:
This is an older HTTP feature that was never implemented in IBrowse until now, partly because IBrowse has always relied on opening multiple connections to websites, which didn't really make this feature worthwhile. However, it can be useful for HTTPS connections as it allows them to be left open and reused, without having spend CPU time renegotiating the SSL connection at all. HTTP(S) persistent connections support is now available in IBrowse 2.5.3 (can be disabled in the settings). Not all websites support persistent connections and, some of those that do, do not keep connections open long enough (e.g. 1 second) to make a difference.
We advise that 68k users pay additional attention to the Max. number of connections and Max. number of secure connections settings in the network preferences. These settings may need retuning because of the two new features described above. Probably, you should not set the number of secure connections to above 4, otherwise multiple connections can battle for CPU time and may well end up timing out. Fewer connections can turn out to be faster, but we suggest that you experiment with these settings to see what feels the best on your particular system.
A number of other improvements and fixes have also been made and are listed in the history log and newly updated changes summary. We would also love to hear your experience of the new features on our mailing list which is still working and hosted by Yahoo! Groups.

Encryption protocol: AmiSSL 4.6 (AmigaOS 3/4)
The open source encryption protocol AmiSSL has been updated to version 4.6.
Changes:
- Updated OpenSSL backend to full compatibility to latest OpenSSL 1.1.1g (21.04.2020) version, which brings security and bug fixes.
- Tweaks to allow and force Amithlon to use the 68060 target, due to 64-bit integer math emulation being broken in Amithlon (68080 and MorphOS should continue to use the more optimal 68020-40 target).

AmigaOS 4: Financial management "Lüttje Bookholler" 1.80
The author Achim Pankalla wrote: "It is a easy to use personal finance program. "Lüttje Bookholler" is a German dialect and means "little accountant" and that is what you are, when using my little program. The program is capable to import account data via csv-import. LB is email-ware, if you want to use it permanent, please send me an email and you will get some advantages! for examples updates...LB needs at least AOS4.1u6".
Version 1.80 now also supports importing the QIF-format; by adding this extension maybe it is possible to change from a different program to Lüttje Bookholler. Please note that files which were saved with version 1.80, cannot be opened with previous versions of the program.
The author would like to thank all the testers and users. As usual the new version is available on Aminet or OS4Depot. Lüttje Bookholler "probably has not been finished" and is developed further. Actually the author is quite satisfied with his program - therefore it is up to you to call for new features. And of course to report bugs!
