Game developer received warning for Backbone game with smurf characters
On January 1st, Mikael 'Hipoonios' Persson did release his game Smurf Rescue created with Backbone under a Freeware licence. Five days ago he received an e-Mail from the law office Gevers, which in behalf of the rightholder of the smurfs named Studio Peyo requested to immediately shut down the website and to pay 500 Euro of lawyer’s fees. A three days deadline was set. Otherwise further steps will be taken.

According to Persson he does not check his e-mails on regular basis. Therefore he got the claim - sent to the mail account specified as contact address for the domain hipooniosamigasite.org - after the expiration of the deadline. Meanwhile he also received a letter which included a claim of 2000 Euro. Persson has published screenshots of parts of his e-mail traffic as well as of the admission of guilt which he is supposed to sign:

Persson's version of the details is extremely fragmentary. Currently it is not possible to reconstruct the complete communication between him and the law office Gevers. If his version of the details will be confirmed, at least according to German law the questionable warning may be legally skilful - although it suggests that the law office might use warnings as business model.

Because recently several Amiga games have been offered or announced which use Intellectual Property of big media companies ("Danger Mouse", "Evil Minions"), the developers as a precaution should reconsider it - there is not any kind of legal protection for non-commercial products. Event: "Amiga 30 Years" in Amsterdam (27.06.2015)
In 2015 the Amiga celebrates its 30th anniversary. Initially an anniversary celebration was planned in the Heinz Nixdorf Forum, in Paderborn (Germany) which was supposed to be take place simultaneously with a similar event in USA. But Jens Schönfeld (Individual Computers) and his team have very little free time so the planning is not in an advanced stage.

For an event on June 27th in Amsterdam, a team of Dutch Amiga users have invited notable guests: Dave Haynie, David Pleasance (Commodore UK) as well as some former games developers (Christian Bartsch, István Fábián, Franck Sauer) have been announced.

The Kryoflux team will also attend the event and create disk images of disks brought along for free. Additionally there will be an exhibition as well as further interesting surprises which will be announced during the next weeks and months.

The team of the PPC-extension Ultimate PPC will be there as well and present its hardware - still it is not clear, what will be presented: On the website of the event it was written "the brand new Amiga expansion card released by its creators" while a post in a forum offers the prospect: "Talk to the developers, look at the card, touch it, smell it." Internet via parallel port: plipbox 0.6
Christian 'lallafa' Vogelgsang's plipbox helps low-end classic Amigas connecting to a network. Linked to the parallel port, the Arduino-based adapter provides a connection to the Ethernet-port of the Arduino board. The magPLIP-protocol is used.

In version 0.6 a new parallel burst transfer mode was added which "really improves the I/O speed on this Amiga port". You can find some performance numbers of this mode under the title link. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Announcement: Sqrxz 3 as collector's edition in a box
After Sqrxz and Sqrxz 2, Frank "phx" Wille has now ported the third part of the Jump'n Run series to the Amiga. Due to the experiences with his own game Solid Gold, Sqrxz' engine was completely rewritten: it now runs with 50 instead of 25 frames per second and in contrast to the Windows and Linux version now also offers level passwords.

Both predecessors are being converted to the new engine aswell, additionally a port of the fourth episode is in progress. The games will be released in a limited collector's edition with profesionally printed disks and a traditional game box. (cg) (Translation: dr)
