MAME

Emulator: MAMEgui 1.1.4 for Amiga patch #0001
Latest version of MAMEgui for Amiga is unable to find new games. It searches the 'roms' directory and WarpMAME 0.37b16 uses 'roms/mame' directory. This patch fixes the path and lets you play all the games.

Aminet full text search engine with new URL
Chris Hodges writes: The Aminet full text search engine is now reachable directly under

http://home.in.tum.de/hodges/cgi-bin/amifind

or indirectly (a little slower but easier to remember) under

http://amifind.home.pages.de/

The availability of links to the official Aminet mirrors depends on Urban Müller and Matthias Scheler. All known bugs were fixed and several new features have been added (thanks once again to the testers!). Added have been the search for complete words, the search only in specific directories, the selection of different target mirrors and much more.

There won't be an output of the found text passages as the computer operations group of the computer science faculty of the TU Munich partout doesn't want to increase my quota and the search engine with 181 MB uses already one third of it :-\

Suggestions are of course still very warm welcome. (ps) (Translation: wk)

VarIO driver now also for Goldsurfer
The drivers for VarIO and Silversurfer which have been released two days ago can now be used with the Hypercom3 module as well (also known as Goldsurfer). Drives for the parallel port and for ZIP drivers connected to this port will be available before the show in Cologne. Some expert knowledge is required for installation, however, since an entirely automatic recognition would require too much work. (ps) (Translation: rh)

DTP: PageStream 4.1
After about two years it is done - there is a new version of PageStream. The most significant new feature is the integrated table editor. This was originally planned as an add-on but because of the many requests it was decided to make it an integral part of the package. Further functions are mail merge, control over compression in PDF files, text inset function, object transformation and a higher speed.

The most important new functions:
  • Table editor
  • Built in Mail Merge
  • PDF export control over compression and encoding
  • Text inset from column edges
  • Custom column widths and gutters inside text frames
  • Shift-cursor text selection
  • Move pages between chapters
  • Duplicate/Transform objects across pages
  • Speed improvements
  • and of course much more
Windows, Amiga and Macintosh versions
At the moment only the Windows version of PageStream 4.1 is available. The Amiga and Macintosh versions will follow shortly.

More information on this on the PageStream homepage at the title link. (ps) (Translation: rh)

Scenet

FREAX - The demoscene history book
Ever wondered who wrote the first demos? Who was the first to crack a game, or who invented nowadays' beautiful effects seen in demos? When and how was the scene born, and who were the first pioneers to pave the road to nowadays' superproductions?

Ever wanted to see a book about the history of the demoscene?

I mean a printed book, not another website. Not another book about hackers, and surely not another try to explain the essence of the scene for the lame general public. A book about the scene for sceners, covering the story of all platforms: the C-64, the Amiga, the PC and also smaller scenes, like consoles, Sinclairs, the Apple and so on. From the beginning to present days, covering every single bit of the great adventure, a narrative history with interviews, memories, stories, colorful pictures...

A book titled FREAX.

After five years of intense researching, the product is starting to shape. Read more about it on this website; read a sample chapter and perhaps you can even find a way to help me. This is something special, something different: something no one ever tried in this depth. (ps)

AMidi: New localisations
The preferences of AMidi, the device to paly MIDI music, has got more languages by the help of ATO. All in all there are available English (built in), German, Czech, French, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, and Turkish.

The installation script was updated respectively, but strongly requires the InstallerNG in the original installer due to a heavy bug. There is a licensed version inside of the archive, now. For those already have AMidi installed there is a small (7 kByte) archive available only containing the translations. Thank you very much for your work, ATO. (ps) (Translation: mj)
