C=history: photos and graphics of 'Lorraine'
On 'The Secret
Weapons of Commodore' web site there's a lot of information about
developments of Commodore, which have only reached prototype form, haven't
been very successful or which have been more special versions of well-known
hardware. One of these is the Amiga prototype
"Lorraine",
well-known photos and graphics of which can be found on the web site.

Magazine: The Crypt #22
On 9 March 2002 issue 22 of the English online magazine 'The Crypt'
was published. This issue mainly deals with the news that
'Vulcan Software' have now ported the Valhalla series over to IBM
compatible PCs. In an exclusive interview Paul Carrington tells us
his views on why he left the Amiga games market to concentrate on the
PC games area. There's also further information about the company
and walkthroughs to the Valhalla games (Amiga versions).
You will find all the latest news about the AmigaOne, and pictures and
first-hand accounts from the Alt-WOA show in Huddersfield. The
Mediator A4000 and the game 'CrossfireII' (Dreamworld Developments)
are being tested amongst other things. Tutorials introduce you to
Pagestream and how to use IRC.
There're also a lot of PC-articles, jokes, cartoons, recipes, puzzles
with optical illusions and further contributions.
You can read the magazine online via the title link but it is also available
as an Amiga version for download. This version runs not with
graphic boards and needs the 'CrM.library' in addition.

Instant-Messenger: STRICQ V2 Beta5
On 9 March 2002 Douglas F. McLaughlin released beta 5 of the
Instant-Messenger 'STRICQ' (version 2). Compared to the previous
version the following changes have been made:
- Offline messages are now requested, displayed, and cleared from
the server.
- When a message window opens, it will no longer grab the current
window focus.
- Message history is now saved. No GUI support for this yet, soon,
of course.
- Login packets now match the latest ICQ2001b build 3659
release.
Installation tips:
STRICQ V2 is incompatible with STRICQ and must for this
reason be installed in its own directory.
At the moment STRICQ V2 can only be launched from a shell prompt.
There's a lot of debug output in the shell window, which can be
send to Douglas F. McLaughlin in case of occurring bugs.
Run the program. It won't get online right away. Enter your nickname,
your UIN and your password. Click 'Save'. Close the program by using
the close window button on the contact list window. Your prefs are
now saved. Restart the program and if all went well, you should now
be online. However, you should consider the following points:
- You cannot add contacts manually yet. If you have never used ICQ2001b,
don't bother using STRICQ V2 at this time.
- If you have used ICQ2001b before, STRICQ V2 will import your contact list
from the server
- If you get an enforcer hit, please forward it to Douglas F. McLaughlin
on the message base. You should use <pre></pre> tags.
- You will need the latest versions of NList, NListtree and TextInput.
Links for download are available at
STRICQ-Homepage

Virus Help Denmark: VirusZ III version 0.98
Georg Hoermann has made an update of VirusZ III, and the bugfixed update
is now available for download at our homepage. Here is some info about
the update:
Name: VirusZ III v0.98
Archive name : VirusZ.lha
Archive size : 54.288
Date : 9 March 2002
Programmer : Georg Hoermann
Requires : OS 2.04+, xvs.library
News in VirusZ III v0.98:
- Fixed bug in vector check kickmem brain that caused all patches to
be recognized as 'AmigaOS ROM Update'. Sorry for that!
- Designed a new display format for the vector check. This one looks
better and is more informative than the old one.
- Added brain for kicktags to the vector check. This one currently
only recognizes 'AmigaOS ROM Update' and 'ramdrive.device'.
- Added the 'Snapshot' function to the vector check (as I promised).
Now you can snapshot every unknown patch that causes alerts on
your Amiga and send me the results. This makes it possible for me
to even add patches that I cannot install on my computer.
Read the manual for detailed information!
- Added recognition for ppc.library v46.37 to the vector check.
Thanks to Jean-Michel Chapron for the handmade snapshots.
- Added disassembler mode to Memory Monitor. This should help
experienced users/programmers to analyse unknown vector patches.

Surf tip: Abmahnungswelle.de
While searching for comprehensive information about the topic "warnings" I came
today across the website "Abmahnungswelle.de". The website offers many details
about the topic and gives many useful and up-to-date hints for homepage provider.
For all who run a homepage, no matter whether private or for business, is this
website a treasure house for important information.
Many private homepage owners may possibly not be aware of the fact that the new
laws TelediensteGesetz (TDG) and/or Mediendienste-Staatsvertrags (MDStV) provide for
example that everyone running a website that is publicly open has to
fulfil his/her information duties about "purpose and identity".
That means among other things that it is one's duty to make the name and address
of the responsible person available. In the (German) article
Information duty
for purpose and identity by Abmahnungswelle.de you can find comprehensive
tips for this.

Hans-Jörg and Thomas Frieden withdraw from public discussions
Hans-Jörg and Thomas Frieden from Hyperion have decided to not take part anymore
in public discussions on mailing lists, newsgroups and forums and have
unsubscribed from all lists. This counts from now on.
For questions and discussions on personal basis, though, they are still at your
disposal.
Here's the complete message in English in which they explain their move:
Recent events have given me the impression that it has become impossible
in the Amiga community to speak up in self-defence without someone taking
offence in it. Thomas and me have therefore decided (in in fact already
did so) to unsubscribe from all amiga-related public mailing lists,
newsgroups and web forums, and we have deleted all our Amiga bookmarks.
Work on our projects will not be affected by this. OS 4 will still be
developed in the same way it used to be. We're just pulling out of the
public.
I'm sorry we have to take such drastic measures, but it simply doesn't
work otherwise anymore. You can still contact us personally, we're open
for discussion, but no longer in public. Fact is that everything we say
will end up on some web page or forum, being dissected to death and
commented with all sort of nice wording, so the best solution is
obviously to say nothing at all.
Thanks for reading this.
Best regards,
--

Domain quarrels: AMIGAplus 03/2002 with delay
Nico Barbat wrote:
As reported have the editorial department and the publisher of the AMIGAplus
been warned by a lawyer in the case Cyberdyne-Systems. To avoid further
conflicts we have decided yesterday to remove a planned article
covering this case in the news rubric of the coming issue. Further legality
steps in the way of a collective suit and complaints at the lawyers association
against the sueing side are in discussion right now.
The AMIGAplus 03/2002 that was to be released on March 13th will be delivered
because of this printing delay about three days later than planned. We ask for
you to excuse this.
Furtheron we ask all readers who have got a similar warning writing to contact
the AMIGAplus editorial department (info@amigaplus.de) or directly Stefan Kost
(ensonic@sonicpulse.de). Please do not rushly sign an omission statement that
is not lawful this way!

Amiga Future

Emulator (Sinclair): ASP version 0.82
ASP, the Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator for Amiga by Ian Greenway, is
available in version 0.82.
Ian Greenway:
This version has a small amount of code changed in the Z80 core which I
was hoping would offer some small speed increase. Despite the fact it
is shorter code, fewer clock cycles to execute, and cleaner, it seems to
actually run about 5% slower on my '060. :-( Still, the code was
optimised for '030, so maybe it will help there!
Main features of this release are a ROM Configuration GUI, .SP snapshot
support, better drag-and-drop, and some extra TZX stuff. The full list is,
as usual, in the guide. (ps)
