Speed Haste: MS-DOS racing game ported to the Amiga
The fun shareware racing game Speed Haste, originally developed by NoriaWorks for MS-DOS, has now been successfully ported to the Amiga by Szilard Biro. The game, which gained great popularity in the 90s, offers classic arcade action with Formula 1 and stock car racing, twelve different vehicles and eight different tracks.
The Amiga port requires powerful hardware and at least a 68040 or 68060 processor with FPU, as well as AGA or a graphics card and 4 MB of Fast RAM. The keyboard, joystick or CD32 pad can be used for control. Due to the game's shareware status, only a few tracks and vehicles are available; registration of the game is no longer possible. Nevertheless, it is worth taking a closer look at the game and giving it a few goes.
In addition to the Amiga port published on Aminet, you need three files (SPEED.CFG, RECORDS. LST, SPEEDH.JCL and CR.JCL) from the DOS version of Speed Haste, which have to be copied into the game directory on the Amiga. (nba)

Game: New update for Star Dust Wars - Director's Cut
The team at Electric Black Sheep has updated its space opera "Star Dust Wars – Director's Cut" on a technical level.
The animations have been reprocessed using a new method, which means they are the same size but in slightly better quality. The length of one level in the CD32 version has been shortened by 20%, bringing the ISO size down to under 1CD-700MB, but it is still not recommend to play it on real hardware because of the reading speed. A bug in the AMOS animation player is being fixed, so the problem that the size of a frame cannot exceed 32 KB has been resolved. Thanks to this and the new processing method, the size of the EHB version has been significantly reduced (from 1.63 GB to 1.23 GB)!
Star Dust Wars - Director's Cut ideally requires an Amiga 1200 with a hard disc, accelerator card and Fast RAM, and can be downloaded in return for a voluntary donation. (nba)

Mouse-controlled zombie shooter: New playable demo of "BDTZ"
BDTZ ("Better Dead Than Zed", video) is a mouse-controlled shooter in which the character has to be controlled from a bird's eye view through a zombie-infested maze of streets. Ammunition is scarce and shots attract more zombies (amiga-news.de reported).
The new demo version offers a new intro, improved graphics, a newly introduced female zombie character, new sound effects and minor bug fixes. You can choose from three levels and in order to play it, you need both adf files.
The game is still in development, but two playable demos have already been released in the last two weeks. BDTZ should run on any Amiga with at least one megabyte of RAM. (dr)

Platformer: First demo version of Phantom Leap
HooGames 2017 is currently working on several projects: after a first preview video of a Zelda-like game (amiga-news.de reported), a first demo version of the platformer "Phantom Leap" (video) developed with the Scorpion Engine was released today: in typical Giana Sisters style, you make your way through initially four playable levels and try to "head out" and collect as many coins as possible. The game runs on any Amiga 500 with 512 KB RAM expansion. (dr)

Asteroids-style dogfights: Hyper Wings 2.21 (update)
Christian Geldmann's "Hyper Wings" (video) is a shooter developed in assembler, in which two human or computer-controlled combatants fight each other with a control system borrowed from Asteroids. Version 2.2 - tagged as the "final release" by the author - offers the following new features:
- New weapon (gravity bomb): missile which creates a point of high gravity, which attracts only your opponent. Contact with that point recudes energy of your opponent.
- problems with the speed of the intro screen solved.
- extended main music tune
- A new nasty gimmick, which inverts left/right of your Joystick for a short time.
- Extended game intro
- Bugfixes
Hyper Wings has been optimised for the Amiga 500 (1 MB RAM, OCS), but also runs on all other Amigas.
Update: (14.03.2025, 22:10, dr)
Version 2.21 offers better performance and stability.

Amiga emulator for the web: vAmigaWeb 4.0
vAmigaWeb is an Amiga emulator for web browsers or as a progressive web app. The new version is now based on the core of vAmiga 4.0 and therefore also supports "Workspaces": these are resource packages that contain the complete Amiga configuration, installed ROMs, floppy disks and hard disks and, unlike the previous "Snapshot" format, are no longer tied to specific versions of vAmiga but will work with all future versions.
In the future, it is planned to export all created workspaces to a ZIP file and import such a file so that all created configurations can be easily backed up and shared with several devices. (cg)
